A.R.M (2024) Movie Script

I am a wanderer
and time is my chariot.
The visions your eyes behold from afar,
so wondrous and shrouded in mystery...
just like my journey,
brimming with hopes,
as I traverse alongside time.
I glimpse budding hopes in the new sprouts
that rise from the
great eruptions of creation.
To every being born of me,
I have entrusted a purpose.
I am the one who, without prejudice,
bestows upon all my creations the abilities
to fulfill their destined roles.
Yet...
those who stumble
in the whirlwinds and ordeals of time
attempt to carve out an uncertain history,
forsaking their place
as the breath of the universe.
Even in those who forget the truth that
"you are what you seek,"
I see a reflection of myself.
I am the all-seeing.
This fragment of my soul,
now apart from me,
carries a purpose too.
And so, I wait with hope, alongside time,
for those who must fulfill that purpose,
laden with trials and tribulations.
There was a time
when forests, humans and animals were one.
One night, a starstone burst from the sky.
Surpassing the speed of the wind,
outshining the brightness of lightning,
it came and fell on our Haripuram.
After several years,
upon hearing this news,
the king of Edakkal and his attendants
came and took the starstone
from our village.
As per the king's demand,
a blacksmith known
as 'Thekkumpadan Kollan'
mixed the starstone
with some secret ingredients
and crafted a truly exceptional lamp.
A lamp possessing the power to control
rain, wind, thunder and lightning!
Later, that lamp turned out
to be the reason
for the prosperity and glory
of the Edakkal dynasty.
How did that lamp come back
to our village, then?
Yeah!
It was a valiant hero who brought it back!
Once the king of Edakkal
faced a big threat.
A gutsy sea trader named
Pulimuttu Mammad
started giving the king quite a headache.
The king's son-in-law, Mana Varma,
went to confront Mammad,
but ended up falling into his clasp!
He's demanding
the authority to collect taxes
from Nelleri to the west,
till Kaalimukku.
Milord, shall we seek
the help of the Portuguese troops?
Let no one advise me to be submissive!
What I need is a solution!
This Pulimuttu is Mammad's den!
Who will come here to rescue you?
Who'll come to save you?
The King?!
Highness, please don't take offence.
I have heard of a Kalari
combatant
towards the North, in
the Haripuram region.
The person he just mentioned
is the forefather of our ancestry!
Kunji Kelu of Neeliyathu family.
The mighty warrior, born with mastery
in every battle discipline
and practices under the sky.
The celestial type.
Look! Kelu Nayanar is here!
Bloody stormbringer!
Are you the King's Coolie?
I'll collect my wage from him,
once I get rid of you.
You bloody!
You saved the dignity of Edakkal!
I am asking you wholeheartedly,
what reward should I give you?
You can ask for anything you want.
There is a wonder in this palace that
I have been wanting to see since childhood.
The Sreepothi lamp made from
the broken starstone fell in my village.
I have heard much about the prosperity
that lamp has brought to this land.
I have a wish to have
that lamp in Haripuram.
Milord, if you want to gift me something,
just gift me that lamp.
I could see it only once.
Is it made of gold?
It is worth more than gold.
Just like you.
Do you want to see that lamp again?
How can I and our people
see Chiyyothi lamp again?
I wish that
everybody from this village should
see the lamp without any discrimination.
I'm going to enshrine that lamp
where that starstone fell.
But dear, the Almighty's decision
was different.
Smallpox spread across the village
and people started dying.
People were so frightened that,
they didn't even dare to take care of
their affected family members.
Such a wretched time!
No, my son.
The Goddess has afflicted.
You please don't enter.
If this is the Goddess's curse,
the Goddess would also know its remedy.
If someone gets sick,
we must provide treatment.
On the tenth day of him taking Chothi away,
Kelu too caught small pox.
Perhaps,
Kelu invoked Chothi's disease to himself.
People say such stories too.
Chothi?
She's recovered.
Is the enshrinement done?
Yes.
Nothing is as you thought.
They didn't let
the lower caste people inside.
King Mana Varma has a message for you.
The message is confidential,
as per the order.
What was the message in that parchment
that hurt him so much?
It remains a secret till date.
Grandma...
Ah, yes...
The people of Haripuram grew up
hearing tales of Kunji Kelu,
and several folks became Kalari warriors.
This land where Sreepothi lamp
was enshrined
became Chiyyothi Kaavu.
The lamp brought by Kunji Kelu
is the reason for the prosperity
of this land.
Remember the 'Ankathallu',
martial arts combat
held once every five years at the temple?
It's a ritual we observe
in honour of Kunji Kelu,
in memory of his bringing
the lamp to our land.
So, what about Chothi?
Heard that
her mother took her to Nagercoil.
Lord Narayana!
Grandma...
Was Chothi pregnant?
Huh?
Really?!
Are these talks appropriate for your age?
Damn her stories!
People can spread rumours as they wish.
Grandma...
What about Maniyan's story?
You should be chanting God's name
before you sleep.
Instead, you want to hear the story
of a thief who stole the Chiyyothi lamp?
Go to sleep!
His stories shouldn't be told at night,
my dear.
Because of that rascal looting from
everywhere, our reputation is at stake!
And some people are like
'make hay while the sun shines!'
Aren't the masters,
Karya Gurukkal and Kumara Gurukkal here?
Yes, all are here.
Keep an eye on all sides,
he might enter from any direction!
This should be the last day of
his bell ringing!
If needed, kill him!
Bloody lowlife!
Oh, no! Isn't that the sound of
bells ringing?
He's coming!
Look that way!
Look north!
Where's he?
One who blazes like
a beacon in the night
One who races like a storm unleashed
One who spreads as
the shadow of the jungle
O son of theragingcreek
- My neck chain!
- Oh, no!
I warned you!
Forget about the chain,
your gold tooth is also gone!
Eh?! My tooth!
Hey, you!
Maniyan!
He's a demon. A true demon.
Maniyan is one troublesome person!
Grandma said that Dad, Grandad
and about a hundred others
all joined forces to catch him.
Imagine if they hadn't!
That lamp is very powerful.
It's because he stole it,
that he drowned and died!
What a bluff! Did you see it?!
Whenever he comes to the shop,
cash goes missing!
Maniyan's stock after all!
He must have some trick up his sleeve
causing things to vanish in a flash.
Remove your shirt and trouser!
- Boy is a seasoned thief!
- Isn't that Ajayan?
Yes, it is.
Everyone's making fun of me
saying Grandpa was a thief!
No one wants to play with me!
If I go to someone's house...
they're suspicious!
Even in school!
My son...
Your Grandpa was a thief who
won over an entire village!
To become a thief,
you must first know your land,
have the patience of a spider
that weaves webs
and be cunning like a fox.
Anyway, these crows and cats
make better friends than humans!
Oh, no! My keys!
'AJAYAN'S FIRST THEFT'
CQ CQ CQ.
This is Victor Uniform Two,
calling and standing by,
CQ CQ CQ.
This is Victor Uniform Two,
calling and standing by,
Hello?
Because I have to ask the question
and give the answer,
I know it might be boring for you.
But don't forget that
I'm the first person in Kerala
to get a ham radio licence
to speak to his lover.
Don't laugh!
Those who hold a ham licence
aren't just anybody!
Film actors, Mammootty,
Kamal Haasan,
then... Rajiv Gandhi...
The list just goes on.
And finally, me!
So...
What else?
Did you eat?
It's 10:10.
Here you go!
Muah!
Muah!
If only it rained right now...
It would've been so nice!
Did it start raining there?
You see...
I'll come as the wind and the rain.
But...
it looks like it's going to be
a candle light dinner for
Mom and me tonight.
This heat and power cut...
and mosquitoes!
And people like your father!
This place is no heaven
like we imagined it to be!
How about we...
go live in the villages that
Solomon famously talked about,
where no one will bother us!
Let's wake up early
and head to the vineyards,
we'll see if any grapes are coming in...
and watch those pomegranates start to bud.
Mm-hmm...
There, I will give you my love.
Let me see if I can arrange a tanker lorry
to take us there, like in the movie!
Dear...
Is that Mohanlal? From the movie?
Mm-hmm...
Come and eat, dear.
All stations control answering.
Urgent message incoming.
A robbery attempt has been reported
near Velloor at a temple.
We've also received complaints of
burglary attempts in a few houses.
This is for the immediate attention
of all stations.
You keep listening to these policemen talk.
Will they end up arresting
the owner of Radiant Company?
We need to know if they're doing their job!
- Stop it!
- There... there...
There it goes!
He is here.
Come on.
Keep it there.
You first go and check out the motor.
Is there no other guy in this village
who can fix the motor?
How to check someone's caste
before calling them for work?!
He's the only person in this village
who does this job!
Hmph!
We'll need to hire someone specifically
for this job, just for this house!
That too from some royal household!
Be quick, Ajayan!
The fuse is gone.
I'll fix it right away.
- Kuttappan uncle!
- Yes!
The light in my room isn't working.
- Ask him to check it out as well.
- Okay.
Ah! So that's also gone!
When you fix the calling bell,
the pump goes!
When you fix the pump,
the bulb goes!
What's happening here, huh!
How are things?
What's happening with your job?
I am on a few lists.
It's easy for you lot
to get a Government job!
By the way...
Why does this motor keep failing?
Are you only doing this
so that you get some work?
I don't think he is as sly as you.
I was saying, it's getting dark!
Your tongue is getting sharp!
Yes. I think so too.
Um... Which one...
Which light isn't working?
Oh, this one?
Move...
Don't touch me...
Kuttappan is right there.
You're a revolutionary
only on the radio, huh?
Do you also want to learn wiring, dear?
- Brother...
- Yes?
Can I get some water to drink?
Aha! I knew you would ask!
Here.
Drink.
Or bathe or do whatever you want!
Use this glass.
If you put any more salt,
the house will be in darkness!
The whole wiring is gone.
That's okay.
I'll put salt again
when I feel like seeing you.
Ah!
Got a shock, huh?
Of course, you will.
It's okay.
You'll get used to it.
O elegant floret
You are the light of my heart
O elegant floret
You are the light of my heart
You are the enchantment
That I long to see time and again
O lovely one, your deep eyes caress me
like the crescent moon
Come closer, O moonlight
Dont linger in gloom
Let your smile shine
Like a string of pearls
O charming rainbow!
You are forever mine
O little parrot
Will you fly to my nest, tenderly?
I've been longing with desires
O mischievous one
Whats with that coyness you hide?
Let our kisses linger till dawn
As we become one
O beloved!
Dont you woo me with your magic
Dont lead me through
dream-filled skies
What you whispered in my ear
Is it truly real?
Endlessly waiting for you
Weaving dreams
I am just a girl
Yearning for our destined union
Why do you ask
such heart-wrenching questions?
Why does your soul burn with unease?
If we part
The world itself will perish
I'll journey to Chiyyothi Kaavu
Light a sacred lamp
Ill wed you before all
And take you with me, hand in hand
O charming rainbow!
You are forever mine
O little parrot
Will you fly to my nest, tenderly?
I've been longing with desires
O mischievous one
Whats with that coyness you hide?
Let our kisses linger till dawn
As we become one
- Is this a crow?
- Really nice!
- Does it have wheels?
- No wheels!
Those are an umbrella's steel shaft.
It's just great.
Aha! Enough!
Did you come here to play or for tuition?
Quick, sit!
That's what I was also asking!
- Let's study?
- Yes!
So... our fundamental rights--
- Look, it's the police!
- Be quiet!
Did you go to Damodaran's house
yesterday, to repair the motor?
Yeah.
Well, that motor is missing
since last night.
So?
We've received a complaint.
They suspect you.
Where did you hide it?
Sir, don't make up stories.
I have no need for that!
Anyway, you come to the station tomorrow.
Why suspect me, sir?
I work hard and make a living!
Stealing is hard work too!
We know that.
A chain went missing from Preman's house
and motor pumps from a few other houses.
Not just these, goats,
chickens and whatnot!
We've lost sleep over it!
Come, sir.
I told you it was him, right.
Did you hear that?!
Are you happy that you
brought policemen to this house?
Remember, you're not at the age
where you listen to your grandma
and go pick up fights with the townsfolk!
Come...
You're Maniyan's blood after all!
What's that?
He pulled a small ruse to
teach that Chandu Nair a lesson.
He listened to your advice and
became a thief! Happy now, Mom?!
When his father abandoned me,
labelling me as the daughter of a thief,
the only reason I stayed alive was for him!
Is this why I suffered endlessly
to bring you up?
He thought he could make a score
from what Maniyan stole
and when he couldn't, he dumped you both!
Isn't that the truth
about your so-called-husband?
- Come with me.
- No, Mom...
You must return this!
If you return this in front of everyone,
your son will be branded
as a thief in their eyes forever!
Remember that!
He's clever enough to find a way
to put back what he took!
I'm sure that boy stole the keys!
Thief!
The keys!
A crow?!
Don't hound that boy, Chandu!
Maniyan might just come
as some crow or cat!
Nice place.
- Come.
- Come in.
Come on!
This is my daughter, Lakshmi.
Dear, this is Sudev. Sudev Varma.
Only Sudev remains.
The tail end of the name was cut off.
Just Sudev.
You may cut off the tail,
but you can't cut off your lineage.
Lakshmi, he belongs to Edakkal Palace.
He wants to do a TV programme
about our temple.
When Lakshmanan asked me to
arrange everything,
I didn't expect you to come so soon!
We've set up our house up north
for your stay.
We only recently came to know
about the combat.
So, we didn't wait any longer. And--
Ugh! Argh!
- Oh, no!
- Ugh! What is this nonsense!
- Oh, this fan!
- Argh! Stop it!
You stop that!
- No need, let go! It's okay.
- It's just dirt.
- Leave it! It's okay!
- I did.
- It's okay.
- Okay.
Don't need the fan.
No need.
If you want to change,
I can give you my shirt, no worries.
Right, it will be correct fit.
It's fine. I have it in the car.
I'll manage.
- There's no fan or light in the shop.
- Ajayan is coming!
Stop! Stop!
Oh, my dear Ajayan!
Please fix that amplifier for me!
- How long have I been begging you?
- I'll check it after two days.
No! No! Don't go!
Once you go,
you are gone forever!
- I'll be right back!
- Didn't they remand you in custody?
Heard that he got
a handful from the police.
This bloody thief is creating
so much chaos in our life!
Don't delay it forever, okay?
Here you go, Ajayan.
Don't give it to him.
You won't get it back!
Unload it, man!
Lord...
Hail Lord Ayyappa!
Huh? Suresh!
- Hi, Suresh.
- Hi, Ajayan!
Where were you?
No news!
I had no time, MV Ajayan.
Mangalapuram, Udupi, Kollur
Dharmasthala, Murudeshvaram,
Gokarnam, Kulu, Manali, and so on!
Didn't spare any temple in the North!
I thought I would never come back here!
My tender heart was hurt that deeply!
Go inside and wash the dishes!
NO!
My backbone broke washing your damn dishes!
That's why I fled from this place!
Fathers should learn
to respect their children!
Come, you moron!
Teach me some respect!
Come on! Hit him!
He's going into our shop!
It's shut down, man!
Move, you!
I'm going to open a tea stall here!
Eh?
Dad, now you're gonna see how to treat
customers and staff properly, thanks to me!
What language is this?
So, everything will go as planned!
We will have a grand temple festival.
Everybody can disperse
after drinking Suresh's tea.
Shouldn't we come to a decision
about Ajayan's family?
What's there to decide?
If the committee decides
to allow the family
of the lamp thief to enter the temple,
no locals will attend the festival!
For sure!
Why are you letting him
inside the Kalari school then?
Don't compare Kalari with the temple!
Hear me?
So, that's our decision!
Please come.
- It's time for lunch.
- You just had a free cup of tea!
Free tea from Suresh!
The holy Chiyyothi lamp is inside this.
The holy doors open only once a year.
You can take a photo of the lamp
on that day.
A day before that,
we have the 'Ankathallu'.
As part of it, there's a practice
going on in the martial arts school.
Hey, is that lamp so extraordinary?
There are some interesting details
about this lamp in the old documents
at our royal residence.
But...
I didn't pay much importance to it.
But recently,
somebody who got to know about this lamp
from the British archives met me.
There's an auction in London next month.
I shook hands with them.
The lamp inside this temple
is a priceless, hidden treasure.
It's invaluable!
Anyway, I am also an heir to this lamp.
No matter what obstacles I have to face,
I will take that lamp!
This is Ajayan,
the guy I mentioned earlier.
Huh? What happened?
Keep your shoes off
and then do your shooting!
I see!
Alright.
Socks are allowed, right?
Yeah, socks are fine.
This guy Prakashan is fighting
this year's combat from our side.
He fought for us last year as well
and lost after a neck-to-neck competition.
This time he is determined to win!
Really?
Is the competition that fierce?
Of course it is! Very fierce!
After all, it's a matter of pride
between Edakkal and us!
Moreover, watching people fight
is our locals' favourite pastime!
Do you know who's coming
from Edakkal's side to fight this year?
Kaavumbayi Sudhakaran!
I heard he's proficient
in all the martial arts!
Local fight, karate,
kung fu, ludo!
That's not Ludo! It's judo!
- I've some urgent work.
- Yeah!
So, continue your work.
Let's have lunch at home.
- Sure.
- Alright then.
Come for tea... in the evening!
- Such a damned son!
- Felix.
Yes.
What kind of a game is this?
Football is the real game!
Sachin scored a century, man!
Superb! He'll make many more records.
Nobody here watches the game.
Only Lakshmi watches it.
We even fixed this umbrella shaped dish
because she wanted it.
Well,
on what grounds did the SI let Ajayan go?
SI took his statement
before letting him go.
He must go to the station
whenever they summon him.
- Chandran has given him a scare.
- I see!
Ask him about the shop, Ravi.
Oh, no! Gone! The shop and the match too!
Let me go check, Dad.
Must be a signal loss.
Don't you want a haircut?
Oh, no!
How did you come here?
I can come through any way I want!
Thief!
I... I was just kidding.
I'm all sweaty and greasy.
You will get dirty too...
I don't care.
Let me stay still like this, for a minute.
I was so worried.
I knew that you'd come.
Dear, there's no signal yet!
- How about now?
- No.
Now?
Yeah! It's back now.
Stay at that exact position!
If you stay at that position for a while,
the signal will be fine.
Why did they summon you
to the police station?
Like legacy doctors,
they call me a legacy thief.
Maniyan's legacy isn't so bad.
I've heard so many nice stories about him!
Well, life ain't a story.
That legacy is a burden to me.
We are the ones who suffer
because of it.
I was trying to console you.
Let it go.
When will I see you again?
Think about today, the present.
Stop worrying about the future.
Dear...
Can't Kuttappan take care of this?
Still, acting according to
the guests' interest,
it's a sign of your family legacy.
Come now, dear.
It's been ages since I got some free time
to sit down and take a leak!
Thief!
Thief!
Everybody, listen! Thief!
Hurry up! Nambiar! A thief is here!
Thief! Oh, no!
- Babu, go fast!
- He's running away!
Nambiar, a thief!
- Hurry up!
- Did you see him, Kuttappan?
Who's there in the barn?
Huh? Apart from the cows,
who else is there in the barn?
It's us!
Hey. Why are you here?
I was going home...
From where?
Huh?
Get in, you!
Confess that it was you
who broke into Nambiar's house.
Else, I'll break your bones!
I told you that I didn't do it.
Who else, then?
Your loser grandpa, Maniyan?
I'll prove that you did all these thefts.
Else, what's the point in me being here
as a policeman?
He almost escaped right under my nose.
And now you act so innocent? Bloody scum!
Wait. Let the SI come tomorrow
and take a decision.
I didn't do it, Sir.
You went out to rob houses with a bell,
and yet you're holding your head up high?
You trying to intimidate me, huh?
What's he up to?
Chandran...
Chandran...
Rajesh!
Come on, hurry up!
- Lift him up!
- Looks like an attack.
Make it fast! Take him to the hospital!
Somebody start the vehicle!
Hurry up!
We are here to invite you
to the temple festival.
You'll charge a case on him, right?
- Will there be a feast on banana leaves?
- Of course!
I will come there then.
Looks like he's quite a foodie.
What happened to Chandran last night?
Chandran can't quite hold his horses, sir.
The doctor said that
it's a minor muscle pull.
No serious injuries.
What about the other guy?
It's just that everybody suspects him.
Even they can't tell for sure that
Ajayan did it.
It's not right to keep someone
under custody...
solely based on suspicion.
Hello? Police station.
Chathootti Nambiar here.
It's Chathootti Nambiar on line.
How are things progressing, sir?
Why aren't you arresting him
despite having evidence?
Who told you that we have evidence?
You don't know about that guy's family.
If you can't, just let me know.
There's law above you too.
The law is the same, be it above or below.
We are here to uphold it.
Don't you teach me laws.
Ask anybody about--
Who is he to Chandran?
A relative, sir.
Their family is always irked about Maniyan.
This new thief, like Maniyan,
rings the bell before stealing.
Hey. Ask him to come here.
Hey. Sir is calling you.
The SI has called for him.
Why do you need this ham radio?
I have a few friends in ham.
We talk to each other through the radio.
I shall show you the license.
Ajayan...
As per our reports,
you are the prime suspect.
Don't you forget that.
You're there in the PSC rank list, right?
If something goes wrong,
it won't be good for you.
You may go now.
If there's a thief lurking under my name,
it's necessary for me to catch him!
Why are we here, then?
You may go, Ajayan.
Leave.
Huh?
He let him go?
Look at him tucking in his shirt!
We'll have to teach law to the cops!
Can't they charge him with
a breaking and entering, at least?
Damn!
Stop irritating him!
Go sit at your shop.
This is what happens when someone
destined to be a teacher becomes a cop!
We will catch this thief someday!
The shouting and clamour of those kids were
a comfort to us.
Such a bad time for us!
I've suffered so much of humiliation
for being a thief's daughter.
I don't want to suffer the same
in your name too!
Let's leave this place
and go somewhere else.
Why?
We lived here all this long.
If my identity is Maniyan Valappil Ajayan,
I will stay here only.
You too.
Don't do anything wrong
out of stubbornness, son.
Let me tell you this so that
you don't have any suspicion.
I've done a theft once
and you know about it.
It was when I was young.
I will commit one more theft here.
I'm sure about it.
We can flee this place
and go wherever you want, that day.
You were always like that.
You only listen to your grandmother.
Ajayan!
These damned sandals!
- Ajayan...
- What is it?
- At the temple...
- Temple?
Are you sure you saw it?
I came to see Sudev's shooting.
And when I came,
there wasn't a soul here!
But I think there's someone
inside the temple.
I came to call you cos I thought
we could catch them red-handed.
Inside the temple?
No way!
Ajayan, be careful!
Suresh...
Listen...
The Chiyyothi lamp
is missing from the temple!
Oh, dear!
This was his trap!
Trap?!
Who's the trap?!
I mean...
Why are you fumbling?
Huh?
I was talking to myself!
Hey! Stop!
Suresh!
Stop there!
Tell the truth!
Who did you see at the temple?
I am asking you!
Why did you bring me there?
Tell me!
Suresh, I've nothing to lose!
- I'll kill you!
- Sudev...
Sudev told me to.
Sudev.
Sudev?!
They asked me to get you to the temple.
But I had no idea about their intention!
I swear that's the truth!
Don't ever use the word, truth, again!
You dog!
They threatened to expose me
in front of everyone, Ajayan.
But this K.P. Suresh doesn't
get threatened that easily!
Ouch!
How dare you bark after
cheating me all this while?
He stole the lamp, Ajayan!
But I feel something worse
is going to happen.
What'd you think, you son of a dog?!
That you could just run away with the lamp?
We'll call everyone and
burn you alive in Chiyyothi Kaavu!
Suresh!
You just calm down.
You thought you could
steal the lamp and frame us?
Actually...
That's what I thought too...
And now...
we've proof too!
Suresh!
You're the thief of Chiyyothi Kaavu!
Except this time, Ajayan is the one
who is going to get into trouble.
And the proof for that is in this camera.
Sudev, give back that lamp.
That lamp is with me only.
But...
it's a perfect fake!
Huh?
It won't be so easy to catch him, sir!
He knows Kalari, martial arts
and powerful magic too!
Is he there now?
That blacksmith, Naanu
brought this pest, Maniyan, from Nagercoil.
So many people have come
until here and returned!
Stop yapping!
Today we'll nab Maniyan!
That's why we brought Nanjappa Chowta.
Should I keep the chair far away, Nambiar?
Keep it close, man!
You!
Where's Maniyan?
I am talking to you!
Okay.
He's not inside, sir.
Get up!
Will he come...
if I touch you?
If you're here for me, come and get me!
You're not worthy of coming here!
Alright, then tell me, Policeman!
Who came first? Thief or police?
Hm?
Does anybody know?
Tell me, Raman police.
Was it the thief?
Or the police?
It was the thief!
The thief came first
and then the police
were formed to catch him.
Paramu...
If you want to nab me,
it's gonna be up to me.
And this Nanjappa isn't cut out for that!
Got it?
You've only lost a tooth!
Chathootti!
Take the lad
and get out of my place right away!
My love...
You are my sky and my earth...
I've got a score to settle for this.
This will heal with your warmth.
But...
what about this searing fire within me?
What's so special
about the food in the temple
that you can't get here?
I didn't go because I wanted to eat.
I went because...
I really wanted to see the lamp,
at least from afar.
I'll never go back to that temple...
which stripped me of my honour!
I never want to see that lamp ever again!
I will teach the people of this village,
the value of your honour.
I will settle that score!
The lamp in Chiyyothi Kaavu
was only disturbed once...
And that was when Maniyan stole it.
When a cunning blacksmith
and a thief join forces...
it is a deadly combo!
They've done a brilliant swapping here.
They stole and hid
the original lamp somewhere.
All these years, your people prayed to...
a worthless fake lamp!
So, why ensnare me in this?
I'll tell you...
The lamp that Maniyan hid,
you'll have to find it for me, Ajayan.
You've time until the inner sanctum
is opened for the festival.
If you bring me the lamp before that...
I'll put back the lamp
that was in the temple.
If not...
Your fate will be the same as Maniyan's.
So...
This is the deal.
Didn't the townsfolk
catch Maniyan with the lamp?
What if, like he said,
Grandpa hid the real lamp
and got caught trying to put
the duplicate in the temple?
Got him!
The real Chiyyothi lamp that Grandpa hid,
is somewhere in this village!
If I don't find it before the festival...
I too will be labelled a thief
like my grandpa.
The thief who stole the Chiyyothi lamp!
Yes! The thief came first!
And to catch thieves like you,
we, the police, came after.
Is that clear now?!
Son of a bloody dog!
Go and finish him off!
I'll have to find the lamp my grandpa hid,
no matter where it is.
Oh, dear! You mean search for the lamp?
This is the river Kanayi.
This is the border of the
north paddy field.
We must list out all the places my
grandpa could've gone to, in this village.
But did he follow the map
while going to steal the lamp?
It's not about him! I just need to get
the routes you went through!
This village hasn't changed much
in the last sixty years.
I haven't gone out to steal much!
Ajayan...
There's hardly 10 days left
for the temple festival.
Instead of trying to find the lamp,
it's better you flee from here.
I'll decide if I should flee or stay.
Don't you advise me! Just do as I say!
But I will say what I have to!
You are a mere puppet in Sudev's hands.
You don't worry about it.
Sudev is not a petty thief like you.
He's so determined about this.
I'll be in trouble if I don't act wise.
So I won't be in trouble, right?
Only you are there in the video cassette!
You are already in trouble.
Forget the lamp.
Whatever things you stole in my name,
should be returned to its rightful owners.
Ajayan...
You're taking advantage of the situation!
I'm not so rich...
Your dad Chandu Nair is rich, right?
He'll have a shitload of money
hidden at home. Steal from him.
Steal? Me?!
He's hidden money all over the house!
Satheesan! Our lost motor is back!
Ajayan bro...
Dad said that I can come here for tuition.
He found the lost chain.
I'll come tomorrow, okay?
Lord Shiva and Parvati
cloaked in sacred guise
Your cherished treats of milk,
sweet bananas and jaggery pure
Whatever happens,
I won't enter 'Naga Kandam', Ajayan!
It's the place where
Thekkumpadan designed the lamp.
We must search that place.
This place used to look like
a dense forest.
We bring to you offerings divine,
Bow our heads and seek your grace
I feel pity for you for thinking
that grandpa would bury the lamp
in Kelu's grave.
Ajayan!
If we apply your brain and my tactics,
we can have a blast here!
Just be by my side.
Thieves with new technology are
of high demand these days.
Where should we dig next?
I'm worried that
things might get out of my control.
I don't know what to do next.
Only two days left for the temple festival.
Shall we inform the police?
What's the use?
They already see me as trouble.
Moreover, Sudev has evidence against me.
I have no choice but to find the lamp.
Be strong.
Whatever happens, I'll be by your side.
When the temple doors open at the festival,
if things don't work as I planned,
will you still have this confidence?
You will be able to retrieve the lamp.
I am sure about that.
I'm searching for a secret about a theft
that nobody knows about.
I have no place left to search
at Chiyyothi Kaavu.
You searched only those places
where anybody would normally search, right?
Places where only someone
like Maniyan can reach,
couldn't there be more such areas
around Chiyyothi Kaavu?
This wretched legacy will end
with my death only!
Oh, dear! They're in love?!
Who's that? Huh?
- Who's that?
- Oh, no! Two thieves!
- Who's that?
- Trapped!
He's running away!
'HARIPURAM'
Places where only someone
like Maniyan can reach,
couldn't there be more such areas
around Chiyyothi Kaavu??
'NARIMAALAM'
Your grandpa will come in forms of
rain and wind and protect you, my dear.
Amidst the pitch-dark silence
The clamour of horse hooves
The wind snuffs out the torch
In a flash
Who dares to hunt here?
Bells toll in unison
From every direction
Amidst the pitch-dark silence
The clamour of horse hooves
The wind snuffs out the torch
In a flash
Who dares to hunt here?
Bells toll in unison
From every direction
Bells toll in unison
Bells toll in unison
Bells toll in unison
Looks like you hit a jackpot, huh?!
It's for Manikyam.
She should get shocked, seeing this!
Maniyan...
The third King of Edakkal,
was mesmerized by
the 'Pavai Vilakku' of Thanjavur,
and assigned blacksmith,
Thekkumpadan Kollan.
to make a similar lamp
with the remains of the starstone
and some secret ingredients.
I am the descendant of that blacksmith.
When I touch metal, I understand its soul.
If this burning fire is true,
I am telling you,
this is not the real Chiyyothi lamp
made by Thekkumpadan Kollan.
Do you think
that the King will just give away
his favourite lamp to a mere warrior?
Some kind of deception has happened.
This is a mere copper lamp.
You and my Manikyam are also
part of the group
who worshipped this copper lamp!
The Edakkal King has betrayed
the brave warrior who defended the kingdom.
The gift that the King bestowed upon you
is not the real holy Chiyyothi lamp.
I felt that you should know this secret.
My life was your benevolence.
Forgive me.
It's the king who deceived us!
The lamp of the king who betrayed Kelu,
I'll retrieve it, no matter where it is!
Not to prove to the townsfolk.
Only to gift it to my Manikyam.
To pay back for her honour.
Today is the tenth day
of Thulam month.
There's Bhairava's invoking ceremony
at the north fort.
Everybody from the palace
will be present there.
This is the perfect time to do it, Naanu.
According to the traditional
architecture of the 'Nalukettu' mansion,
the first one will be the southern room,
the second is the western room,
the third is the northern room
and the fourth is the eastern room.
The southern room will be
the largest in terms of area.
If there's a river to the east
or west of the mansion,
the western room will be
of the most importance.
However, the river is situated
to the north here.
When the river is to the north,
the southern room
becomes the most important.
What's that sound of a bell ringing?
I hear it from all sides!
It's Bhairava's invocation ceremony.
You'll feel all such things.
The southern room is ideal for welcoming
guests, resting, and storing money.
A location perpetually illuminated
within the eye's reach.
Looking at the signs,
I feel the lamp is kept here.
There might be more traps in the vault.
Be careful.
Hey!
The Nine Celestial lock.
The first celestial body is the Sun.
Ruby for the Sun.
Coral for Mars.
- Ruby...
- Pearl for the Moon.
Coral...
- Jupiter...
- Yellow Sapphire for Jupiter.
- Diamond for Venus.
- Jupiter...
- Blue Sapphire for Saturn.
- Saturn...
- Hessonite Garnet for the North Lunar Node.
- Finally, the lunar nodes...
Cat's Eye for the South Lunar Node.
The vault is shielded
with a powerful protection.
Inside, a lamp so potent,
it reigns over the five elements.
If your attempt to open it fails,
it could result in death!
Hey!
Maniyan!
The one who understands destiny
becomes the master, Naanu!
This was a trap by the locksmith!
What if the locksmith
looked at it from the flip side?
Start from the South Lunar Node...
to the Sun!
Be careful!
O dear God!
Naanu!
As per the Lakshanika Shasthram,
tonight is the night for a theft!
For a thief,
luck will strike as an unexpected bounty.
This lamp bears the weight
of years of deception...
I'll put an end to that deception now!
Henceforth, this shall be Maniyan's lamp!
Maniyan isn't who we think he is!
What we're searching for...
isn't anywhere here!
But don't be disheartened!
Because we're on the right track.
I mean...
We're going in the right direction.
But...
That's not enough.
The thief's brain that you inherited...
That's what we need!
If it's something you inherit,
you should've acquired the thief's brain!
The King was the thief!
Kings don't resort to thievery!
Just political conspiracy!
Political conspiracy!
I knew everything before I came here.
On a King's chessboard,
there'll always be some
brainless sacrificial pawns.
You're merely a pawn...
in this game I am playing!
That's how royal aristocratic symbols work!
It's not meant for hooligans
and bastard thieves!
Do you understand?
Bloody son of a dog!
You!
Think twice before flaunting
your martial arts skills!
I won't need much time
to confirm people's suspicions
about you being a thief.
Well, what can you do!
Ajayan!
I need that lamp!
If you do that, you get two things!
Your love will thrive.
And you'll be able to live in this village.
Big sale at Baba Textiles!
One for one free
during this festive season!
Satheeshan, you took a lot that day!
You've to pay for this!
Is it time for tea, Chandran?
Such a pity!
Can't even have a sip of water, can you?
I will pay back for this!
You just wait for it!
Are you cops aware of anything?
Late last night, someone was seen
at Chathootti Nambiar's house.
This village is now
a free roam for thieves!
The thief comes by only when
Nambiar's daughter is home on study leave!
And so far,
nothing has gone missing from there either!
- Is that so?
- Ya!
Oho!
I saw the thief with my own eyes,
running out of the house!
- Was he wearing his dhothi while running?
- Nah!
For the kind attention of
all devotees.
As part of the festival,
the three-day food drive is sponsored,
as usual,
by the renowned and famous figure,
Chathootti Nambiar!
That too for free!
For the devotees
who want to make offerings,
donation boxes have been installed
at the eastern and western entrances.
Move!
This beautiful voice that is heard
by the devotees belongs to--
What's this, Suresh!
Don't play music now!
It's new, new song!
- Greetings.
- Greetings!
I'm M.V. Ajayan.
Maniyan Valappil Ajayan.
I've something important to tell you folks.
I didn't want to go around
telling each person.
I'm in love with someone.
Eh?!
Chathootti Nambiar's daughter, Lakshmi.
We have been in love for many years.
There he goes!
I know there are unwarranted talks
about Lakshmi going around the village.
Better stop it!
If you've any more suspicions,
- feel free to ask me directly!
- Switch that off!
I just want to know
if what I heard is true.
Dad...
I didn't know there was so much deceit
in those words!
I just want to know the truth!
Enough!
It's better to die...
than hear any more of this!
Don't try to live out
those stories you've heard!
If you thought you could
marry a Pulayan, a low-caste
and live in this house and village...
I'll just believe
it was yet another story!
It's only you that I cannot kill...
Remember that!
Ouch! Let go!
It was an accident, eh?
Relax!
I don't think it was you, Ajayan,
who asked him to
come to my house and check.
But...
wasting time to find the lamp that I took,
isn't a smart thing to do
and you know that very well!
Also, who told you that
destroying the camera
would also destroy what's in it.
Idiot!
Ajayan...
We've very little time left.
Just liven up, think,
and do what needs to be done!
Okay?
You need to continue
living in this village, no?
Come.
Ajayan's theft.
Nice name, no?
Oh, no...
Your mom.
Alright, Ajayan.
She saw it! She saw it!
Day after tomorrow,
when the sanctum door opens...
I'll also be branded a thief
like Grandpa.
It must be the curse
from Dad taking the lamp
that we are still enduring.
Which one is the real lamp?
This black one, it shows the King's fear.
This is for you.
Nobody in Chiyyothi Kaavu
will ever see this!
Why don't you go put this in the temple?
Then you can also become
a warrior like Kelu.
I'm going to the temple.
These morons, townsfolk...
Let them keep praying to
what they've always prayed to!
So, what about this one?
- Kill that dog!
- We got him!
Enough with your tricks!
Just finish him off!
Hack him down!
Yes! The thief came first!
And to catch thieves like you,
we, the police, came after.
Is that clear now?!
Son of a bloody dog!
Kill him!
Go and finish him off!
One who blazes like
a beacon in the night
One who races like a storm unleashed
One who spreads as
the shadow of the jungle
O son of theragingcreek
Over here, over here!
He stole the lamp from the temple!
Kill him!
Maniyan is over there!
He's over there!
Don't spare him!
Kill that, son of a dog!
Stab his leg!
Stab him!
Chop off his hands and legs!
Pelt him with stones!
Stone him to death! Bloody dog!
Stone him till he dies!
- Hey!
- Don't throw it!
No!
Stop! Stop!
Everybody stop! Stop!
Maniyan!
Don't do it!
Dad...
Dad...
Dad...
Did Grandma know where Grandpa hid it?
Just try to remember, Mom.
Did Grandma ever mention anything about it?
In the corner of the sky
A moon glimmers faintly
Within its light, a bloodshot-eyed hare
Here on this blue isle
The moons reflection
shimmers on the waters edge
In its glow, a baby tortoise
The mischievous tortoise,
with a betel box on its chest
Crept along, hiding away
in an unknown nook of the isle
The betel box,
with its star-shaped lock
So grand, it could hold enough betels
to cloak the earth
O, little one, gently close your eyes,
listening to my story
In the warmth of my embrace
Sleep, sleep, softly now
O, little one,
with tireless joy and a tender smile
Play and coo
Grow, grow, gentle now
Ajayan!
Your love story is awesome!
Kudos!
There's a slight problem.
They need a favour from you.
Come on, ask him!
Prakashan met with a minor accident.
He fell and injured his knee.
Ajayan, instead of Prakashan,
you must represent us for the 'Ankathallu'.
It's a matter of our village's pride.
The committee didn't ask you
to be so polite, Sivaraman!
Well, never mind if you are afraid.
- Let him think freely.
- Move!
All that people want is
to watch them fight!
- Give way!
- Here comes your spawn!
We don't have time, Ajayan.
Whatever happens,
don't you accept their request.
I am not interested, Master.
I don't care about
the village's pride either.
Okay?
You come.
He will accept your request.
Mom...
Destiny has brought these townsfolk here
to ask us a favour.
I never wished for anything beyond this.
Why are you talking like
you don't know anything, Mom?
Will my problems be solved
if I go for this 'Ankathallu'?
Don't we need to clear the bad name
Grandpa left us with?
If you win this combat,
there will be people
to listen to your side of the story too.
If you want me to come,
there's something I need.
You should let my mom
enter the temple.
That's how you play a game!
The moment I checked
your ham radio conversation,
I got to know about your love affair.
But you announcing your love,
I didn't feel it was a good move.
Be careful.
A battle between two countries
usually scares people.
But for our townsfolk...
Dear. Go sit under our family's tent.
Aren't these people too human beings?
A ferocious battle between two villages.
You come.
To witness the fierce fight
between ferocious cheetahs,
we welcome you all, dear friends!
M.V. Ajayan also known as
Maniyan Valappil Ajayan,
the kind-hearted
and well-behaved chap
will represent Chiyyothi Kaavu!
Determined with all the tricks up his
sleeve is Kaavumbayi Sudhakaran.
Schwarzenegger Sudhakaran,
also known as 'Azhikode Terminator',
will represent Azhikode.
He shouldn't get out alive from the ring.
I'll handle the law with my money.
Hmph!
You look scared,
like you ended up in the wrong place.
Nice!
Friends, Kaavumbayi Sudhakaran,
who stormed in like the
lone elephant that terrorized
the forests of Wayanad,
has been tamed by our Ajayan,
and that too without any tranquillizers!
Ajayan!
You ruined our village's reputation!
Let's go.
I don't think
you'll ever forget your moves, Ajayan.
What happened to you?
I won the moment
my mom entered the temple premises.
I need to be alone tonight.
'Aama Thuruthu'.
People are scared to enter this place
even in broad daylight.
I am shivering in fear.
Shut up and walk, Suresh!
A red light!
Hold this.
Oh, dear!
There are enough tools here
to rob even the Reserve Bank!
Argh!
Shows how dedicated
a seasoned thief can be!
Even the air he breathes
can't understand him.
Yet you think your grandma could?
You think I became his fan for nothing?
This place was my last hope.
I have no idea what to do next.
I'll take care of Sudev and other issues.
At least this way, I can make amends
for the wrongs I've done to you.
Take Lakshmi and Mom with you
and leave this village.
Lakshmi...
I knew that you'd come here.
It's in your blood to
secretly break into houses at midnight!
You thought you can lure my daughter
with your tricks, and take her away?
The townsfolk need to hear that
the thief was caught red-handed,
only then they will believe it.
From now on,
we don't want a Maniyan in Chiyyothi Kaavu.
For the attention of those who have locked
up their houses and come for the festival.
There have been reports of thieves
in the vicinity.
A thief who has stolen from
two or three houses
has been caught at
Chathootti Nambiar's house.
Be cautious, dear devotees.
Go, run away and escape!
Where's Lakshmi?
They took her away from here.
I don't know where to.
Nambiar is scheming something.
I didn't give you this
for you to return it to me.
What I want can be done
outside the combat ring too!
He's here.
Hey! Grab him!
Bhairava is the embodiment of bliss
You!
Bhairava is the source of
all that exists
Chandran, come soon!
Beat him to death!
Don't let him off!
Bhairava, the embodiment of bliss
Bhairava, the source of all that exists
Bhairava, the eternal Yogi,
walks with the cosmos
Bhairava, in yogic grace,
holds the sages sacred pose
Bhairava, the eternal Yogi
Go look! Come on!
Walks with the cosmos
Bhairava, in yogic grace,
holds the sages sacred pose
Today's the day when my hiccups will stop!
Except it will be on Nambiar's tab!
Come on!
Bhairava, clad in
the skin of the jackal
Bhairava, adorned in
the tigers fierce hide
Don't let him escape!
Come on!
Bhairava, clad in
the skin of the jackal
Bhairava, adorned in
the tigers fierce hide
Ajayan!
My son...
Come on!
You!
He doesn't need to marry an upper-caste
Nair girl just to spark a revolution.
Finish that dog!
It's Maniyan's lamp theft
that brought this karma upon you!
The men in your family are cursed!
They won't live long!
At least, it will end with him!
Despicable people!
Wretched bloodline!
Bhairava, adorned in saffron robes
Bhairava, bearing a pouch of sacred ash
Bhairava, adorned in saffron robes
Bhairava, bearing a pouch of sacred ash
O benevolent God
Let your blessings bring goodness to all
With rice we honour you, O God,
In your divine hands, goodness reigns
May your deeds be praised,
Your trident bring eternal blessings
Hack him to death!
Bloody dog!
Hack him! Come on!
Ajayan!
Don't go there, Mom!
Somebody, please help...
My son...
Ajayan...
Kill him!
My son...
Oh, no...
Ajayan...
Dear, please tell them to stop...
Ajayan!
Naanu!
You watch...
Even if the sun shattered
and fell from the sky...
I'll be a tale that won't be forgotten!
You're beyond death.
Therefore, I also am!
You devious blacksmith!
In the corner of the sky
A moon glimmers faintly
Within its light, a bloodshot-eyed hare
Here on this blue isle
The moons reflection
shimmers on the waters edge
In its glow, a baby tortoise
Grandma, why don't you pray at the temple?
God is present in the stone and the water.
So how does it matter where you pray?
On your long and winding journey
Who will hold your hand and guide you?
Through every obstacle you face
The gentle streams will clear your way
The wind will caress your sorrow away
The stars will guide you
without getting lost
A fire will blaze before you,
banishing darkness from your sight
The soil will nurture your seed,
turning you into a lush forest
O, little one, gently close your eyes,
listening to my story
In the warmth of my embrace
Sleep, sleep, softly now
Naanu!
If there's a man who's worthy...
let time guide him to the lamp!
Play and coo,
Grow, grow, gently now
Rise up! Rise up!
Break through the barriers and triumph!
Rise up! Rise up!
Conquer the world and soar!
Well done, Ajayan!
Well done!
I was sure you'd find it.
As the people of Chiyyothi Kaavu say,
you've surely sensed
the magical energy of this lamp,
forged from fallen stars.
Just like that...
the price of this lamp
is a magical figure!
But don't assume
I'll disregard your effort.
I will definitely pay you!
It will be a sum
beyond your wildest dreams.
Ajayan...
there are no more problems between us.
For the King, what belongs to him.
For the workman,
what he has rightfully earned.
Isn't that the law?
The monarchy is gone.
It's democracy now.
If the deed I carried out is true,
that lamp will come back to this land.
We've put back the lamp
we took from the temple.
You relax, Ajayan.
If I take this lamp back,
I can live in my village
with my head held high.
And only because
you paved the way for me to do that...
I went easy on you!
You won't die.
But this should be good enough
to make you a better person!
O, dear Goddess!
Move, move!
Move aside!
Give way!
Did his dead body float to the surface?
Are we in trouble?
What's the problem, sir?
You all ganged up
and tried to kill a young guy.
And you're asking me,
what the problem is?
You won't even get a bail!
Do you know that?
Last night, Chiyyothi Kaavu
witnessed a series of miracles.
And the reason for that was...
Ajayan...
whom you all tried to kill last night.
Feels like some folk tale, doesn't it?
But this is the truth.
And the proof for that is
the real thief of Chiyyothi Kaavu,
that is him!
What?! This guy?!
Him?!
KP Suresh...
Dad...
It must be the karma
for your actions, Chandu Nair.
There's a letter for you.
Mom, please give way.
It's for Chathootti uncle.
Please open and read it.
Nambiar, among Maniyan's misdeeds,
there was one significant act of goodness.
Which is, the real Chiyyothi lamp
that stands before us now.
But I have something to tell you...
I'm letting you know
before I commit another theft.
Where is he?!
I'll come as the wind and the rain
when you think of me.
'AJAYAN'S SECOND THEFT'
Amidst the pitch-dark silence
The clamour of horse hooves
The wind snuffs out the torch
In a flash
Who dares to hunt here?
Bells toll in unison
From every direction
Amidst the pitch-dark silence
The clamour of horse hooves
The wind snuffs out the torch
In a flash
Who dares to hunt here?
I am the all-seeing.
