A Taste of Sin (2023) Movie Script
[piano music playing]
[Choir] Holy words long preserved
For our walk in this world
They resound with God's own heart
Oh, let the Ancient words impart
[singer] Words of Life
[Choir] Words of life, words of hope
Give us strength, help us cope
In this world, where e'er we roam
Ancient words will guide us Home
Ancient words ever true
- Changing me, and changing you.
- [singer] Changing me...
- [singer] Oh we have come...
- We have come with open hearts
[Bishop] When every
knee shall bow and every tongue,
whether you like it or not,
it's mandatory that you confess
and acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord.
A day is coming...
A day is coming when the arrogance of men
will come to a halt, where the pride
of men, the dignities of men...
the brilliance of men,
and yeah the intellectual
capabilities of men will mean nothing.
And on that day, every knee will bow.
And the lamb shall make war,
revanquish the
power of the enemy among us.
- We mute the voice of the adversary.
- [music fades out]
We discredit the voice
of the accuser of your people.
In the name of Jesus.
- We command deliverances of the captives.
- [piano playing]
We command salvation for all.
Now let God arise.
In the name of He seated
on the right of the Father,
to ever make intercession,
- our soon coming King,
- You are
-Jesus Christ the son of God
-The Lord for all time and age
You are on the throne
You are the Lord
[anticipatory music playing]
[Bishop] It's the fifth marriage
anniversary of Pastor Teddy
Hanson and his angelic wife,
Ruth.
[church cheering and clapping]
- [choir singing]
- [audience clapping]
Just as King David in the Bible,
is a man after God's heart,
so is Pastor Teddy Hanson
a man after God's heart.
Since he was a teenager,
he dedicated his life
to the service of the Lord,
making sure that his kingdom is built.
And in his beautiful, angelic wife, Ruth,
he finds a virtuous woman,
a woman full of grace and truth.
When the time comes and the Lord decides
to summon me to His
bosom, I wouldn't be worried.
No, I will be fulfilled
because I know that Pastor Teddy Hanson
will pick the mantle
of leadership in truth and in spirit,
to lead this church to greater heights.
[instrument playing]
[Choir] We are a chosen generation
We've been called
Forth to show his excellence
Hey all I require for life
God has given me
And I know who I am
[musical beats continues]
I hear the whispers, the gossips,
from people
you have anointed and prayed for.
They say that we can pray
for barren women to get pregnant.
Yet we cannot pray
for ourselves to have a child of our own.
Those women I prayed
for their wombs becoming fruitful.
That wasn't my will.
That was God's will.
Perhaps it's not God's time yet to
let us have children we can call our own.
When God says it's time,
he will surely bless us with children.
You remember Abraham and Sara, don't you?
What are those for?
Oh, Pastor your mom is here.
She come with them.
[soft music playing]
[Ruth sighs]
- Is everything okay?
- Baby things.
Oh, that. [laughs]
I saw them on my way back.
And decided to purchase.
Maybe it's a sign.
Look, I know God will surely
bless this home with a child.
[Teddy] Amen.
[in Twi] You may have missed
some and all women must sit down.
Listen, I'm going to ask.
- [in English] Amen.
- Amen.
[people cheering and clapping]
- [continuous beeping]
- [cheering, clapping]
Good evening, you're welcome to
Ladies Lounge here with me, Caroline.
My guest
tonight is one controversial author.
He pushes the buttons.
He loves to do that
and also tries to have those
uncomfortable conversations with everyone.
He launches his book very soon
and he's here on the hot seat.
- He's Mr. Kofi Anderson.
- [Kofi laughs]
We're happy
to have you in the studio tonight.
- Delighted to be on your show, Caroline.
- [Caroline] So...
[Caroline] Now,
let's talk about this book.
You have already launched a few books
that touched on very controversial topics,
homosexuality, tithing.
And this time around, it's on marriage.
Why the focus on marriage this time?
[Kofi] We always look at every problem.
We associate it spiritually,
- [Caroline laugh] Okay, right.
- including marital, marriages,
instead of looking
at the practical side of it,
like going to a marriage counselor
or going to a doctor to seek out solution,
we always run to the pastor.
You do know that everyone
will agree with your viewpoints on this.
Caroline, I know hat
people would not agree with me.
But, nobody really agrees with the truth.
The people who have lived
five years and ten years of their lives,
marital lives, and have not had children
and then they go after these pastors,
they tell them to roll on the floor.
They step on stomachs and all of that
when they could have just gotten
solution from a marriage
counselor or go and seek,
you know consultation, consult the doctor.
Maybe they could be
some health issues with you.
You should read the book.
And when you read the book the
others who will read it, will understand
that it's God who gives wisdom
for us to write these things.
Teddy.
We need to go and see a doctor.
I don't understand.
You don't understand what?
We need to go and see a doctor.
Are you sick? Is there a problem?
We need to do a medical checkup.
We need to check what the problem is.
Teddy, why are we not having children.
Ruth.
We're not God.
We don't give children only He does.
If it's destined
for us to have children, we will.
We have fasted
and prayed to God to have a child.
But we still do not have children.
What we've not done
is a thorough medical checkup.
To find out why we are not having kids.
Everything is not about prayer.
Sometimes you need to do the work.
Like I said,
we're not God, when
the time is right, we will have children.
Are you hiding something from me?
No.
Does it bother you at all
that we do not have a child?
Does it bother you that for five years
of marriage we have not had children?
Well,
I am perfectly fine.
You can go and see a doctor,
but I'm not going.
If you want peace,
you will follow me to see the doctor
tomorrow morning.
Be ready at nine a.m.
[Piano playing]
No, no, no.
It's okay, sit down.
[sighs]
Thank you for your various reports.
We are quite satisfied with the work
you've been doing in our various branches.
I would like to remind you,
keep preaching.
Imbibe in the people,
the spirit of giving,
giving, giving, paying of tithe, offering,
donations, sowing of seeds.
We ran all necessary tests.
And
Mr. Hanson, your result shows
that you are perfectly okay.
Mrs. Hanson,
your result shows
that there's a damage to your uterus.
I guess this
was not detected early and treated.
-And so it's led to a condition that we
-[soft music playing]
call an incompetent cervix.
Um, please, Doctor,
can you speak in plain terms?
[sighs] Okay.
Your wife has the condition we call the
Scheuermann's syndrome, which is
caused by the bruising of the uterus.
And that leads to infertility.
I don't understand.
Mrs. Hanson, the Scheuermann's syndrome
can be said in plain language,
as an abortion gone wrong,
and this leads to the removal of the womb
In medicine,
we call it a total hysterectomy.
[soft music continues]
[Mrs. Hanson mutters] Let's go.
Thanks for your time.
You're welcome.
Do you want some water?
Is there something you want to tell me?
It's fine.
I'll be in the bedroom
whenever you're ready to talk.
Please sit.
I was a child.
An orphan living with my aunt.
You know exams is on Monday?
- Yes.
- Good.
So I called you here
for us to do the thing,
so I can pass you.
Do what?
- Oh, are you a small girl?
- Yes.
How can a fourteen
year old girl be a small girl?
I'm not 14. I'm 13.
[laughs] But it doesn't matter,
just one year difference,
it doesn't make any difference, okay.
I haven't had this experience before.
[clicks tongue] Don't worry
there's always a first time.
If you fail, your auntie will
send you back to the village.
Do you want to
go back to the village to weed?
- No.
- Good.
- [sighs] Either the village or in.
- [sad tune plays]
Take a decision now.
[Ruth] That was just the beginning.
And how did you know you were pregnant?
Nana took me out for a test.
Oh, so Nana knows about it?
[Ruth] They took me to this...
far location to get the child removed.
Which one of you is here
to remove the baby?
[exclaims] What is happening?
I mean, which one
of you is here to remove the baby?
You're Ruth? Come with me.
An abortion that was meant
to last just a few hours,
took me two weeks in an unknown location.
I was declared a missing child.
[sighs]
But one thing I did not know
that the teacher hid from me that...
that...
that my womb was removed in the process.
And now... [sighs]
Now I don't have a womb to carry baby.
When your mother so desire.
[exclaims]
[Ruth sighs]
[sniffles] I have to go. I'm sorry.
- Hey, hey, hey. Where you going?
- Let me go.
- You will go nowhere.
- Please let me go.
I am barren.
I can't give you a child.
Then we will adopt one.
There're so many orphans out there
who deserve parents to care for them.
I didn't marry you solely
because I wanted children.
It's because I love you.
You're my heart, your're my soul.
And always remember that
there's nothing that's impossible for God.
If he wants us
to have children, we will have children.
Let God manifest in our lives.
- [music playing]
- [Ruth sobbing]
The junior ministers, really showed
their true colors today at the meeting.
Such an ungrateful bunch.
We give so much yet
they give so little in return.
- Honey, what happened?
- Simple task.
Tell the people to donate
because the Lord commands them to.
Kwesi.
Not long ago you made a declaration,
that the Lord has commanded
the members to donate to the poor.
[in Twi] Kwesi! Is it just a business now?
Kwesi... Oh this old lady!
[in English] Just in
case you have forgotten,
eh stated that he was going to
give three of his most exotic cars
to three ministers
that have done really well.
When we give we have to recoup.
Honey.
[whispering] Thank you very much.
Hurry up.
We're not running
a charitable organization here.
And yet you are
collecting money from the members
in the name of donating to the poor.
Kwesi, be careful.
[in English] I am not
talking to you, woman.
I am talking to my son.
And I can speak
for your son because I am his wife.
The bone of his bone
and the flesh of his flesh.
[in Twi] Where were you
when I conceived him?
Young Lady!
[in English] I demand some respect, woman.
Kwesi.
[in Twi] Where
did you pick this woman from?
[Kwesi] Mum, please let's eat.
[woman in English] Enjoying
your food right? [laughs]
Wow! You're beautiful.
Yes, you are.
And you look pregnant.
- Yes.
- [tense music plays]
I got it right.
Yes, she is pregnant.
Wow.
Wow.
- [sighs]
- [tense music continues]
Is there something you're not telling me?
[hesitating] Is... is...
Is everything okay?
- It's okay. Mom.
- What is okay?
- I will handle it.
- You'll handle what?
I'll be in my bedroom.
Son.
Son.
What is all this?
I don't understand you.
What's going on?
What is going on here?
Can someone tell me something?
The one thing you so desire from us,
I can't give.
What is that?
I don't have a womb.
What's the meaning of that?
I don't have a womb to give you children.
- Son, what is going on?
- [Teddy] Tell me what is going on.
Because you have
to tell me because I don't know.
[indistinct conversation]
[woman] How... How could I know?
[Teddy] Of course you should know.
- She wasn't smiling, for crying out loud.
- Oh my goodness.
Every time you're on my case,
you want a baby, you want a baby.
[woman] But what do you expect me...
You're my only son, for God's sake.
- [Teddy] We can adopt a baby.
- [woman] Adoption?
- [woman] Did I adopt you?
- [Teddy] No, you didn't. Ma see,
- [woman] Oh my goodness.
- [Teddy] you come in here as a problem.
[Teddy] You know you're going
to put her in a dark place.
How are you
expecting her to get out of it?
How are you
expecting her to get out of it?
Everyday you want a baby.
Just leave her alone! [echoing] Alone!
[music playing]
Bishop please,
Pastor Mrs. Hanson is here to see you.
Okay.
[footsteps approaching]
Sir.
Thank you so much for honoring
my invitation on such a short notice.
Oh, it's not a problem, Bishop
David and I discussed.
He told me
about your visit to the hospital.
Well,
there is something I need to tell you.
Jesus is in control.
He's the master of our destinies.
I need to find him.
Who?
Mr. Adjei, the school teacher.
Sir, the CEO of Accra's Investment Bank,
just made a huge donation to the account.
- [dramatic music playing]
- [codes copyrights]
[Kwesi] Look who we have here,
the one and only Anita.
Lucifer himself is jealous of your voice.
How are you, Pastor Teddy?
- It's nice to see you.
- [Teddy] Nice to see you.
- [Kwesi] Anita.
- Yes Sir.
Africa wakes up
waiting to listen to your song.
Thank you, Reverend.
- The nation's rise and shine.
- [Anita chuckles]
- Your voice is the anthem of the country.
- Thank you.
- [chuckles]
- So tell me.
You know, I told Teddy Pastor,
I said, if you don't bring Anita
for this year's conference,
you better stay at home.
You look beautiful,
[Ruth] Mr. Adjei.
Who are you?
Ruth.
Ruth?
Ruth, Achimota.
Do I know you?
[Ruth] Oh, my God.
Oh, Ruth.
Ruth, my dear, please sit down.
You've grown into such a big woman now.
Oh, Ruth.
But, how did you find me?
I went to the school
and spoke to some teachers
until someone
finally gave me your address.
I desperately wanted to see your face,
What happened to you?
Old age and sickness.
And your wife?
She left me for another man.
And she turned the children against me.
I have been trying to reach them, but
they don't want to see me.
To them, [sighs]
I'm dead.
[Ruth] Because of you.
I will never be able
to have children again in my life.
What can be worse than that?
I just wanted to see you
eyeball to eyeball and tell you that
I leave your judgment in the hands of God.
[Teddy] Your performance is going
to kickstart the meeting so
I think you should go freshen up
so that you'll be ready for it, okay.
Yes, Pastor.
Um, excuse me, Pastor.
[sighs] Please, how is your wife?
I noticed she didn't come along.
She's feeling a bit under the weather.
Oh, I thought so.
You guys are always together.
- [Teddy chuckles softly]
- When I see you, I see her.
When I see her, I see you.
[Anita chuckles]
Your performance is
in two hours, get ready.
Yes, Pastor.
[dialer ringing]
- [Teddy clears throat] Yes. Hello.
- [man] Hello, reception.
- [man] Hello.
- Is this the reception?
[man] Yes, sir.
Okay, this is Pastor Hanson.
- [man] Yes, Pastor Hanson, 2005.
- Great.
I'm trying to reach Anita,
but she's not answering.
I just want to confirm.
Is her room number 1008?
- [man] Yes, please. That's correct.
- Okay. Thank you.
[man] You're most welcome, sir.
[phone keypad clicking]
- [phone ringing]
- [shower running]
[sighs]
- Maybe she's sleeping.
- [tense tune plays]
I'll just...
- [shower continue running]
- [tense music swells]
[Anita singing]
- Nana, you've been my best friend.
- Yes.
[Ruth] Nana, how could you?!
How could you keep something
like this from me for such a long time?
You saw me get
married to this man knowing full
well that I cannot bear children for him.
I have cried.
I have complained about my predicament.
And you have said nothing about it.
I cannot bear children for my husband.
I cannot give my
mother-in-law grandchildren.
I cannot fulfill my purpose
as a wife because I do not have a womb.
Nana.
Tell me, of what use am I?
How could you?!
Ruth.
It was never my intention to hurt you.
Never.[sniffles]
Yes, I knew about it but Mr. Adjei made me
swear an oath of silence.
- [Doctor] Teacher.
- [Mr. Adjei] Yes.
[Doctor] I'm afraid,
there are some complications.
[Mr. Adjei] What are you talking about?
For the baby to be completely removed,
I might have to remove her womb.
[Mr. Adjei] Look do everything possible.
As long as she is not
carrying the baby any more.
Just that.
Did you discover...
[in English] Nana... [inaudible]
Come here. Nana.
Nana, stop running.
[exclaims]
- Why are you running?
- They're going to take her womb.
- She's going to die.
- She won't die.
[Mr. Adjei] Look, listen here.
I don't want you
to tell anybody about this.
Do you hear me? Come with me.
You're going to take an oath.
Come with me.
Besides when David came into your life,
your life changed for the better.
You were so happy.
How could I ever think of
saying something that would,
ruin [sniffles] such happiness?
[sniffles] Ruth.
I was wrong, I know but
I couldn't have said anything that would
take the happiness away from you.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
[in Twi] Nana,
you have not been a good friend.
You have not been a good friend, at all.
Ruth...
Please forgive me, forgive me.
[in English] Please forgive me, please.
How could you?
[sighs]
God, help me.
Hello.
Anita.
Please come to my office immediately.
[tense music playing]
[woman] You.
Yes, you. You're fired.
You don't know what you're doing.
You're such
an unprofitable and slothful servant.
You were all given a task
to raise a sum of $20,000
towards our humanitarian profit.
And up to now, nothing.
Lady G.O, please understand.
The branch oversees is a very small town.
And my members are significantly poor.
That's your excuse.
It's clearly written that even the poor
should donate to the church
and they will be blessed.
- [Teddy] Anita, please sit down.
- [Anita] Thank you.
I need to do this
for God and to clear my conscience
of the guilt I feel.
I want to say that I am sorry.
And if you can find it
in your heart to forgive me.
Okay, you're forgiven.
But what is it?
The ministerial conference at the hotel.
I came to knock on
your door but it was open and
I saw you half naked.
I...
I found myself lusting after you.
I couldn't even leave.
- I know.[sighs]
- [soft music playing]
- I saw you.
- What?
You saw me?
Yes.
I just decided not to say anything.
Why?
I didn't know what to say.
[sighs]
- I'm so sorry.
- It's okay.
It's fine.
Can I leave?
Yes, sure.
[breathes heavily]
Do you want to know why
I didn't say anything
Even when I knew that
you were staring at my naked body?
I know you're married,
you're faithful and righteous.
And I know that there are
so many women, old and young in the church
that admire you.
I struggle not to think of you.
I could say I love you,
but I know I can't have
you because you love your wife.
And she's been so nice
and loving towards me.
[sighs] I... I don't know.
This is the adversary trying to,
lead us to temptation.
This is just a...
trial of our faith.
For God will never allow us to be tempted
beyond what we can bear.
We can conquer this
with fervent and sincere prayers.
Okay.
Okay.
[Lady G.O] Hey!
[phone ringing]
Your mom.
Yes, mom.
This is going too far
and it's getting out of hand.
Mommy, this church has been making steady
progress under my leadership.
Please,
Please,
Can we talk later?
Thank you.
- [Teddy] Love is God's language.
- [crickets chirping]
The love is so strong and immense that
there is no tool that can
be used to quantify the amount
of love that God has for mankind.
So strong that He
sent down His only begotten Son.
I struggle not to think of you.
- I could say I love you.
- Noah.
To come and die, to shed his blood.
To forgive us our sins.
Noah?
Or Jesus?
Oh, sorry.
I meant Jesus.
I meant Jesus.
Now, the love that Jesus has
for mankind is so strong that even when.
Joseph betrayed him,
he hugged him and kissed him.
[in language] Which Joseph?
[in English] Joseph?
Judas.
I meant Judas.
I meant Judas. [sighs]
It's okay.
But there are rules
that we still have to live by.
True.
Through the twenty commandments
that God sent to Moses.
Hey, which twenty?
Ten or twenty?
[giggles] Sorry.
I meant, the ten commandments.
- Mr. Anointed, are you okay?
- I'm okay.
- Are you sure?
- I am okay. I'm sorry.
I... I mean, the ten commandments.
But you get what I mean?
Sin dates back to
the early days of Adam and Eve.
God gave them a simple instruction,
particularly Adam, "Do not touch
this forbidden fruit."
Now, when God realized that Adam
had touched the forbidden fruit,
he came down angrily and started
shouting and calling out Adam's name.
"Adam.
Adam,
where art thou?"
And Anita answered.
"God, I am here, and I'm naked."
Ani... what?
In which Bible?
In this Bible.
Anita?
[groans] Ah! Sorry.
I'm... I'm confused. You know the,
the song ministration that she she gave
was so powerful
that it had a lot of impact.
I know. Anita is an amazing girl.
She's made
a lot of mark in people's lives.
You know, without Anita
the choir wouldn't be where it is today.
Certainly not.
She's exceptional.
- But I meant Adam.
- Adam, yeah.
You know what?
Enough of the scripture.
Let's share a word of prayer.
Come on, Anita.
Ani who?
[laughs] Oh, my goodness.
Sorry, I... I...[chuckles]
I meant Ruth. I'm sorry.
I know, I know.
[both sigh]
[Teddy] Love.
Hey, handsome.
Where are you going? Looking so hot.
Like the man
I met back in the Uni days. [laughs]
Nothing serious. I'm just going to go
take care of some challenges.
- It comes with the calling.
- I know.
Alright, let me walk you to the car.
[indistinct chattering]
- [birds chirping]
- [soft music playing]
[Teddy mouthing prayer]
Amen.
My man is on fire.
The devil is in trouble.
- He is anointed.
- [Teddy laughs]
Take care of yourself.
- You too.
- [Ruth] Love you.
- [gospel music playing]
- [car engine starts]
[Anita] Pastor Teddy.
[chuckling] What a surprise?
I wasn't expecting you.
- [Teddy] May I?
- [Anita] Sure, sure.
- I, I actually came here to fight.
- [Anita scoffs]
I don't understand.
I came to fight my feelings for you.
But you've become
the bane of my existence.
[heart beats]
- I guess I can't.
- [Anita breathing heavily]
I can't fight it anymore.
[breathes heavily]
[both panting]
[both breathing heavily]
[both continue panting]
Reverend, I'm taking my leave.
Lily...
Do you know what bothers me the most
as the general overseer of the church?
No, Reverend Todd.
The people.
The people are fake.
They present themselves...
differently
as opposed to who they truly are,
especially in my presence.
Lily.
[Lily] Pastor.
I want to ask you a question.
And I don't expect
you to lie to me as a man of God.
I don't expect you to be fake,
like the very people
I'm telling you about.
Tell me the truth.
If I were to ask you out on a date,
if I were to ask you out on a date
behind closed doors,
would you take the offer?
Reverend,
I would be scared to accept the offer.
Why?
Because you're my pastor.
And pastors don't have feelings?
Besides, Pastor,
I'm not your type.
And how would you know my type?
I'm just your errand girl.
[music playing]
Come closer.
Closer.
A little more.
- Lilly.
- Pastor.
Can you keep a secret?
[birds chirping]
[music continue playing]
I feel empty,
and out of virtue.
I feel naked,
and out of life.
What is it?
What happened?
I...
I...
I love you.
I miss you.
[Teddy sighs]
Teddy, look at me.
Look at me, Teddy.
I see stories in your eyes
but yet I can't make sense out of it.
You feel trapped, right?
Because of your faith
and religious status.
You're afraid of what people will say.
Pastor David Hanson
divorced his wife.
Scandal.
Very big scandal.
Teddy.[cries]
So you want to remain childless
for the rest of your life
because of the love you have me?
Or is it because of what people would say?
Or that you're okay with it?
Oh, Teddy,
divorce me.
I'd be happy.
Be set free.
Divorce you?
[phone chimes]
Honey, I think you have a message.
[phone chiming continuously]
[Teddy sighs]
[phone chimes]
[Ruth sighs]
Bible, please.
Thank you.
- [Phone chiming]
- [keyboard typing]
And so, Pastor, as a philanthropist,
I would like to donate this money
to your charity foundation.
Open it.
[musical beats]
- Father, may her enemies die.
- Amen.
I command fresh oil on your head.
- Amen.
- Your hands shall never lack.
Amen.
Amen.
I receive it, God bless you Pastor.
Please, can you help me close it?
- Thank you very much for your prayers.
- No, Lydia.
Okay.
- So Pastor I will make time and...
- Lydia.
Where are you going?
Now, you can go.
I'll make time and come to the foundation.
-You will never lack
-I receive it.
- You've engaged an ordinance.
- Amen.
- You have engaged a law.
- Amen.
- The Lord shall never fail you.
- I receive it.
So what's the plan?
About what?
Your wife.
What about my wife?
You know, your wife can never,
ever give me a grandchild.
And that is my worry.
Mom, Ruth and I
have had a discussion and we are adopting.
Adopting what?
What is wrong with you?
Have they washed your face with something?
In fact, wait, did I adopt you?
Look an adopted child
will never, ever be my grand child.
What does that even mean?
And it's not every time that your child
is supposed to come from your own ribs.
All you have to do is just accept
the child and shower the child with love.
Which love?
Do you know
the child you're going to adopt?
Do you know their lineage?
Don't make that mistake.
I am telling you
and I will say it 1000 times
that I need a child
from your ribs and that is final.
Well,
if you won't accept the child, we will.
So be ready to never
consider yourself as a grandmother.
And I'll really appreciate it
if we don't have this discussion again.
I don't want my wife
feeling uncomfortable in her own home.
- Make sure the Bishop get these reports.
- Okay.
- And schedule a church council for...
- [message beeps]
next week Satur...
Okay, Sir.
Anita.
Is this true?
I sent that message three hours ago.
There was no response so I had to come.
I just received it but...
Is this true?
Jesus.
If I stay here,
I will be the headline
of every paper and tabloid.
I need to travel overseas.
That way, we can successfully
hide it until the baby is born.
You can't keep it.
You can't keep this baby.
There's too much at stake right now.
Your reputation,
my reputation will be destroyed.
In the church,
in the community, in the country.
If news spreads out about our affair
and the result of it.
Anita, please.
Perhaps when you get pregnant again,
we will seriously consider it
and might keep it.
I understand.
If we have to do this,
promise me that you'd be there by my side
until I go through it.
You can get a private hospital.
In the hospital?
Who's going to
know what we're doing there?
Besides, it's just going to be you,
the doctor and a nurse.
- [Teddy huffs]
- I really need you.
I need you there with me.
- [phone chiming continuously]
- [upbeat afro music playing]
[phone chiming]
- [phone chiming continuously]
- [music playing]
[phone chiming continuously]
[sighs]
I don't feel too good about this.
What do you want?
[Anita sighs]
Where is Teddy?
Pastor is in my office.
[sighs] Okay.
It's okay, let's do this.
- Are you sure?
- Yes.
- Pastor Hanson.
- Teddy is fine.
There have been some complications.
What complications?
The friction on her uterus,
which is very dangerous to her life.
If we don't try to
save her now, she might die.
Doctor, please just do anything that
you can to save her right now, please.
You will need to sign a consent form
to give us the permission to go ahead.
- Is that okay?
- Okay.
Alright come with me.
Doctor, Doctor, she is not breathing.
What? Come let me check.
[tense music playing]
[sobbing]
Yes, Anita Boakye just died.
Yes, in my hospital.
She came for an abortion and she died.
[wailing]
Why?
Pastor Teddy should
not be allowed to go scot-free.
Anita was my favorite gospel singer.
May her soul rest in peace.
[in Ashanti] Look, since he could do
this shameful thing, impregnating a girl,
then why make her to abort the baby?
Such has never happened.
It's a very big shame!
[in English] Pastor Teddy is a joke, bro.
We need to bust his ass from the system.
Bishop, please have a look
at what's going on on social media.
According to a post, Bishop,
she died due to complications
of a surgical operation.
Hmm
My Anita?
[in language] Why will a
Pastor commit such sins...
Adultery, abortion, murder!
[in English] Pastor Teddy was our family's
role model but we are so disappointed.
[in language] He must be executed!
[in English] My friends are mocking me
at school because he was my Pastor.
[male voice on radio] Well, breaking news
coming from the Church of God.
Popular gospel singer,
Anita has just died.
Reports alleging that she died
from an attempted abortion.
It is also alleged that Pastor Teddy
literally forced her to terminate her baby
- after a scandalous affair.
- [phone chiming continuously]
We'll bring you the latest
in this developing story.
Good evening and welcome
to another episode of The Ladies Lounge.
My name is Caroline.
The whole nation has been mourning the
death of one of its brightest stars Anita.
Such heartbreaking news.
And my guest today is Anita's cousin, Joy,
who is here to share some jaw dropping
details on the life of the late singer
and what could have caused her death.
Joy, welcome
and thank you for accepting my invitation.
Our deepest condolence.
- Thank you.
- So what exactly happened?
[Joy] All started
[voice breaking] when she started
having an affair with one Pastor Teddy.
I was against it
because he was married.
[sobbing] But she was adamant
because she loved him
and believed he loved her, too.
[sniffles]
So she got pregnant.
This Pastor Teddy, wanted her to abort.
Last time I heard from my cousin [crying]
was the night she went to the hospital.
[Caroline] Wow, a Pastor,
he's also married,
was having an affair with your cousin.
Got her pregnant and persuaded her
to have an abortion
that eventually killed her.
Men of God.
And I'm sure you have a lot running
through your minds at home, too.
Thank you for watching.
[panting]
[Ruth continues panting]
[Children] We love you Anita,
may your soul rest in peace.
We love you Anita,
may your soul rest in peace.
[panting]
[sad music playing]
Is it true?
[yells] Is it true?
[both sobbing]
[police siren wailing]
[police siren wailing]
[Ruth panting]
The police are here.
- [Ruth sobbing]
- [melancholic music playing]
[police siren wailing]
[Somber music playing]
[vehicle engine roaring]
[cameras clicking]
[reporters mummering]
- [indistinct chattering outside]
- [camera shutters clicking]
[Patrick] So barrister Newton Jakes,
I would like to ask you,
what is your take on the
ongoing case between Pastor Teddy Hanson
and the late gospel musician Anita?
So basically, to give you some background,
here we have Pastor Teddy Hanson
and late singer Anita,
who we all know and loved and cherished.
They had a personal relationship
and they were intimate together.
She got pregnant
and they had to have an abortion.
Then Anita unfortunately passed.
So as a representative of the law
and a man of the courts.
The pastor should not be reprimanded.
The facts of the matter state that Anita
and both Pastor Teddy were
not minors, and they both consented
to having sexual intercourse
before any of these such events happened.
In fact, there are papers
even to show from the hospital
that Anita actually signed with
both signatures from her and the Pastor,
to show that she was
knowledgeable of what was going on.
The law cannot act on this
because they both consented.
I'm sorry.
You had A Taste of Sin.
And when a believer does,
the consequences are severe and grievous
more than a person living in sin.
That's why the Bible says,
"Let he that thinks he stands
take heed lest he falls."
Today you have fallen.
But tomorrow
I pray that you should rise again.
[Bishop] Wherefore
let him that thinks he stands
take heed lest he falls.
1st Corinthians, chapter ten verse twelve.
In your minds, you think you're good.
In your minds,
you think you are righteous.
In your mind, you think you pay your tithe
so all is well in Zion.
And then you begin to falter.
You begin to lose control.
You forget to watch and pray.
Brethren, take heed lest you fall.
For the adversary is like a roaring lion
seeking for whom to devour.
[Ruth] I have been
thinking for days and nights.
But I can't find answers to my questions.
I, your wife, cannot give you a child.
I would never be able to give you a child.
That you and your mother so desire.
Teddy.
If you could stoop so low
to commit such an atrocity
against me your wife,
against God, against your calling,
the best you could
think of was to kill the child?
I guess I'll never find an answer to that.
Now, see how low
the devil has brought you?
[Bishop] When you see the clouds
rise from the west,
you'll say it's going to rain and it does.
When the south winds blow,
you say it's going to be hot and it does.
Now you can predict the face of the earth.
Why then,
do you not know
the meaning of the times in which we are.
Brethren,
Pastors, I say unto you,
"Take heed lest you fall."
I have failed God.
But I will not stay low.
[vehicle engine roaring]
- Have you done it?
- Goodness, I was waiting for you.
Goodness, you should have done it by now.
Do a video on the passing of Anita,
- of my wife and I.
- [Lily] Yes Sir.
- Right now.
- [Lily] Yes, Sir.
My wife and I are completely
shaken, taken aback
by the sudden loss of our beloved Anita.
May her beautiful,
beautiful, beautiful soul
rest in the bosom of the Almighty.
This issue has projected a bad image
of Pastors and Ministers
of God in this country.
Givers never lack.
Anita, may your beautiful soul
rest in perfect peace.
[Ruth] Ever since I met him,
you have always been his spiritual father.
He has always wanted to be like you.
To talk like you, to walk like you,
to pray and preach like you.
He listens to your ministrations
every single morning.
But today, he has fallen from grace.
He has failed
all those who look up to him.
He has failed his ministry.
He's failed his calling.
And above all he has failed God.
Please pray for us.
[voice breaking] Please help us.
This country is
just too much for us to bear.
The lawyers are currently
trying to get him out of detention.
And the church does not
want to be part of this shameful case.
I don't know what to do, Papa.
Please help us.
Please.
[sobbing]
I want to ask you something now.
Do you still love him?
Yes, I do.
Listening to...
everything you've said and following
the story with your husband,
I believe that what is happening to him
is not wickedness, but a weakness.
And this will require
deliverance and a lot of intercession.
And there's nobody
better than you
as the wife to stand in the gap.
It is in moments and times
like these that your love for him
can really be demonstrated and tested.
So I will stand
in the gap with you for him.
But one of the things we will need
is to pray
that God will give him a second chance.
And when he comes out of prison,
that we will have the opportunity
to be able to take
him through deliverance,
because confession and repentance is good,
but he has to go through
deliverance to break the soul tie
and to renounce the legal grounds.
Because if he doesn't
go through deliverance,
this thing can reoccur,
it will keep happening.
So let's pray.
[woman yells] How dare you?!
How dare you!
Tell me it's not true.
And I'll believe you.
Tell me it is not true.
And I'll believe you.
I know it's on social media.
It's on television. It's on radio.
In fact everybody is talking about it.
I want to hear from you, Pastor Teddy.
Tell me you didn't do it.
Did you do it?
- Did you do it, Pastor Teddy?
- Yes, I did.
I did.
You did?
You did knowing how
desperately I needed a grandchild.
Knowing that your wife
can never, never give us a child.
And God blessed you with a child.
- And...
- God didn't bless me with a child.
The devil cursed me with a child.
The devil cursed you to go after the girl?
Did the devil force you
to take the girl to your room?
Did the devil force you to open her legs?
[emotional music playing]
Was it a curse from the devil
when you were having fun?
Enough, enough!
[sniffing]
I prayed to God
and I asked him for forgiveness.
I know.
- You should forgive me.
- [soft music playing]
- Mom.
- [sniffles]
I'm just going to ask you for one thing.
I don't want you to ever,
ever come here to pay me a visit.
-I don't want you nor my wife,
-[sobbing]
nor my church members.
I don't want anybody
to come pay me a visit.
When I get out,
you can come home to see your son.
I want to spend the rest of my time here
with God.
[yells] Officer!
[sniffles]
[audience clapping]
[Clapping fades]
We're all aware that Pastor Teddy Hanson
served this church for several years.
We do appreciate his
selfless service to this church.
However,
after much thought and deliberation,
the Council of Elders of this church,
we have decided to suspend Pastor Teddy
from all church
related activities until further notice.
You know Ruth,
The Bible said, "The steadfast
love of the Lord never ceases.
His mercies never come to an end.
They are renewed every morning
and great is His faithfulness."
Looking at him,
knowing him and the situation,
do you sense a genuine
repentance, remorse?
We need to invoke
and plead the mercies of God,
which is exemption
from judgment or consequence
to discharge him and acquit him
from every legal grounds
that these act have given to the accuser
against him in the courts of heaven
and in any Satanic court of jurisdiction.
We need to pray
on the account of the blood of Jesus.
God said to Abraham, "Your descendants
will go into captivity for 400 years,
and after 400 years,
I'll bring them out with great substance."
So it's not what you go through,
but it's how and what you come out with.
So we want to pray the mercies of God
will triumph in this matter,
that God's mercy will answer for Him.
And will mute and silence
- the voice of the accuser of the Brethren.
- [mutters] Amen.
Let us pray.
You hold your son in prison.
We pray that you will look favorably
upon the brokenness
of your daughter and your son.
And that mercy, mercy, mercy will triumph.
As it is written over judgment.
For it is written,
"In wrath, remember mercy,
in the midst
of the years, revive thy work."
We pray, Heavenly Father
that in name of your Son Jesus,
you will extend the courtesy
of your mercy to your daughter
and to your son, and that
he will be acquitted and discharged
and brought out of this situation.
That grace will be extended to them
to be able to handle
and will show mercy to others.
Even as he has obtained mercy. For blessed
are the merciful
for they shall obtain mercy.
Let mercy be right now,
in the name of your son Jesus,
be extended to Ruth
and to the husband and pray
that your church will stay intact,
and that the faith
of so many, in the name of Jesus,
will not be destroyed by this act.
I thank you for mercy
that upholds all things. Amen.
Amen.
[gospel music playing]
Are you okay?
I no longer
feel comfortable in this house.
I think we should move out of town.
Lay low, so everything subsides.
That is what the devil wants.
He wants us to run away from our problems.
And that, I will never do.
I have forgiven myself,
knowing that God has forgiven all my sins.
I will stand and face my adversities.
For I know that I can do all things
through Christ who strengthens me.
So what are we going to do?
You've been suspended from the church.
I know,
but the pulpit is not the only way
I can take God's word to the people.
There's only one problem.
Which is?
The house, the car,
They don't belong to us.
They belong to the church.
I've failed you, Papa.
[sighs] I know.
Have a seat.
[Teddy sniffles]
My son,
you have failed God.
He is the omnipotent,
omnipresent and the omniscient God.
He knew my name even before I was born.
He called me into his works.
And I will pay it.
He knew a day like this was going to come.
And yet He watched me fall
into the trap of the devil.
And now I am nothing
but a shadow of myself.
A living man.
Yet dead.
[sobbing]
A man is tempted
when he is drawn out
of his own lust, and enticed.
God has no hand in your sin.
I have served God in spirit and in truth.
Just A Taste of Sin.
And I have become the worst
and most talked about criminal.
He turned his back on me,
and watched the world humiliate me.
I have lost my right to the pulpit,
and my calling as a pastor.
The church
and it's Ministers have rejected me.
[sobbing] And now,
all the people see in me is the devil.
Who do you see in you?
[Teddy sobbing]
Who do you see in you?
[Teddy continues sobbing]
[Teddy sniffles]
I see a man...
who has failed God and His calling.
[Teddy sobbing]
And I see a man
seeking for deliverance from God
and to restore his ways
in the sight of God and man.
[Teddy continues sobbing]
[Teddy] I have lost my right
to the Church's ministration,
but I lost a spiritual father in you.
And have I lost
the preacher of the gospel in you?
No.
[music continue playing]
[Teddy sniffles]
The car. The house.
I don't want them anymore.
They make me feel uncomfortable.
They do not belong to me.
They belong to the church.
I just want to start a new life.
Please.
[clicks tongue] My son.
Indeed you have broken my heart
because of the
passing of my beloved Anita.
And because you have had to
suffer so much
more than you can even bear.
The house.
The car.
I'm not taking it back from you.
Keep them.
And I have one thing to tell you.
God has not given up on you.
Do not give up on Him,
Teddy.
[Teddy crying]
[Teddy sighs]
[Teddy] In the beginning was His word and
the word was God and the word was love.
Today, ladies and gentlemen,
I come to you with the Word of God.
It won't take long before God comes out
and ask yourself
have you given yourself to Christ?
No, I don't take money for preaching.
You are the kings of kings.
- [gospel music playing]
- [Ruth and Teddy praying]
Oh, Mom.
[in Twi] You're here.
I heard you're sick,
so I'm here to see the doctor's report.
Mother why?
Why not?
Imagine what happened in church today.
You sacrificed yourself.
You used others.
What you said in church made people cry.
You're making money now,
at the cost of your life.
My son, this is out of hand.
[in English] Mom,
[in Twi] we need money.
[in English] We need money.
[in Twi] With your life?
[in English] You want
to use your life for money?
What if it actually happens?
You are using your mouth to
prophecy negative things about your life.
[scoffs]
Mom,
I will never fall sick.
God forbid.
Besides, I do my regular checks.
When you start building a foundation
like that, it becomes a part of you
and then you
grow up being an armed Christian.
No weapon that is fashioned against
you shall prosper. Someone say Amen.
[children] Amen.
[in Twi] Old lady, please...
[in English] It's high time you stayed out
of my marriage and the church's affair.
Todd and I are handling it.
"Todd and I are handling it."
[in Twi] My husband and I
labored to build that church.
You and Todd will not destroy it.
It won't happen.
I've been quiet for so long.
[in English] And I
will not be silent any more.
No, never, I will not.
[tense music playing]
[male Voice] Todd,
why are you down?
Todd.
Stand.
[Todd grunts]
You have the power.
- Stand, son. Stand.
- [whimpering]
[grunts]
Stand.
[Todd grunts]
[tense music playing]
Hey.
Todd, Todd
Todd, Todd
[tense music continus]
[machine beeping]
Doc, what happened?
Minutes ago he was fine.
He was perfect,
there was nothing wrong with him.
I'm so confused, Doctor.
Do you know what happened?
Madam, please come with me.
[Teddy] He is the king of kings.
[in Twi] He is the Alpha and Omega.
With all our sufferings
on earth, heaven is the goal.
I would like you to give your
lives to Jesus Christ and be saved.
Thank you. God bless you.
[woman3 in English] My son has
been lying here for one month.
Father, he is not talking,
he is not doing anything.
[in Twi] It hurts.
My Only child! Forgive him, Lord.
[in English] That wife of yours.
That woman Kwesi, that woman.
[children shouting]
- [children] Pastor Go!
- [indistinct chatters]
[children chanting] Fake pastor!
Fake pastor!
[Ruth] Teddy,
you need to stop this.
The people out there do not
want to see you. They are angry.
Anita's death is
still fresh on their minds.
The ordeal of yesterday
could have been worse.
What if someone had stabbed you?
What if someone had poured acid on you?
Teddy, please.
For my sake.
Please stop this, please.
You can pray to God at home.
You don't need to go out there.
Please.
The ordeal I went through yesterday
is still not a good enough punishment
for the sins I've committed against God.
I will never back down.
- I will continue with the work of God.
- To prove what?
You don't need to
prove anything to anybody.
I will never prove the strength
of my faith to any living man
I know God is still watching over me.
He sees through my heart.
At the break of dawn,
I'll wake up
and continue with my ministration.
[Ruth sighs]
Hello.
Good afternoon, Pastor.
May the Pastor peace
of the Lord be unto you.
Amen.
Pastor, please
I'm sick I believe you can heal me.
I'm sorry.
I do not heal nor perform miracles.
It's only Jesus who can.
Pastor, I know Jesus can
pass through you to heal me.
- Please help me.
- Not anymore.
I do not have the anointing
of the Lord upon me.
But I believe and know that
if you pray with a sincere heart,
God will
change your situation for the better.
Here.
Pastor, I used to watch
your programs on television.
And I know God's anointing is upon you.
Please help me.
[music playing]
Do you believe in Jesus
as your Lord and personal Savior?
I believe Jesus as my Lord
and my personal Saviour, Pastor.
Then I command you
in the mighty name of Jesus.
I can't believe it
that his grace is still upon me.
I don't know why.
[giggles]
That's because he
never gave up on his faith.
Amen.
You never gave up on me.
Even when I was
ostracized from the church.
You always sent me
messages to encourage me,
to motivate me.
You kept sending prayer points
for us to use for our daily prayers.
And I have you to thank.
My wife and I,
we are here today to say thank you.
Thank you,
for standing by us
during my difficult times.
Thanks be unto the Almighty.
In fact.
I've read a lot on social media.
I read about how God
has used you to heal a paralyzed man.
[Teddy] In the mighty name of Jesus,
rise up and walk.
Rise up and walk.
-[Bishop] Your humility and faith
-[Teddy] Rise up and walk.
- [Bishop] are second to none.
- In the mighty name of Jesus.
[Bishop] You were humble
enough to accept your mistakes.
Rise up and walk.
Oh I serve the living God
[Bishop] The devil
sought to destroy you,
to bring you down completely.
But my son, you refused to surrender.
And by the grace of God,
you have won the battle.
We will desire nothing more
than to be given
the opportunity to come back to church.
Oh, Pastor Teddy Hanson
and his beautiful, angelic Ruth,
you are welcome back to the fold of God.
[church cheering and clapping]
Today I shall talk about
two special people in the Bible.
Job and Joseph,
because their respective stories
share the same theme.
Job was a man who loved God
[piano playing]
and God loved Job.
And the devil was jealous.
You see,
God has a way of lifting his people
- from the bottom to the top.
- [church cheering and clapping]
[Lady G.O] Doctor, what's going on?
My husband is not getting better
and it's been months now.
[Doctor] We've actually done
everything medically possible,
but to no avail. That is
where we stand at this point.
So what are you saying?
I humbly suggest you guys fly
him to India for further treatment.
[Teddy] At the mention of your name
Every knee must bow
At the mention of your name
Every tongue must confess
Good afternoon Ma, Good afternoon.
Good afternoon.
- How are you?
- I'm fine.
[Ruth] How's Mr. Adjei?
I hope he's responding to treatment.
He passed.
[sad music playing]
This morning.
[Mr. Adjei] Forgive me.
See you alone
has lifted a very big guilt from my heart.
May the good Lord grant your heart desire.
Amen.
Hello, Adjoa.
Yeah.
We have to put all the
necessary documents together.
We have to fly him out tomorrow morning.
Yeah, bye.
Doctor, my husband is a reverend.
I am a reverend.
Be honest with me.
How much time?
Maybe weeks.
Days, hours, minutes.
Maybe even seconds.
I think you have to fly
him out as soon as possible.
Yes.
Reverend.
- Doctor, what's going on?
- [Doctor2 sighs]
I'm sorry.
He passed.
[birds chirping]
- Are you just getting here?
- I've been here all this while.
You just didn't see me.
Are you okay?
May his soul rest in perfect peace.
Why don't we go pray for him?
You think so?
Sure.
[tense music]
[dramatic music playing]
[Lady G.O] Doctor, be honest with me,
is he going to pull through?
[Doctor2] We only have to hope and pray.
[Lady G.O] So my husband's life is
now on let's hope and pray situation
[Doctor] With God,
all things are possible.
[Lady G.O] How much time?
How much time, Doctor?
[Doctor] Maybe weeks,
days,
hours.
Minutes. Maybe even seconds.
Is everything okay?
Well,
I think you have to fly
him out as soon as possible.
No, no, no, no.
We're not flying him out.
- Hello Ruth.
- Hey, how are you doing?
I hope Pastor Todd
is responding to treatment.
Yes, we're still at the hospital.
Ruth, I just had a revelation.
And I need you
to come to the hospital now.
Yes, they want to move my husband,
but if they do, he will die.
That's what I saw in the revelation.
I need you to come here now
so we can pray for him.
- Hello.
- Hello, Bishop.
[breathing heavily] Good afternoon.
Yes, I'm alright.
It's just that
I got a call from Pastor Todd's wife
and they confessed a whole lot to me.
I've been trying to call my husband,
but I can't get a hold of him.
And now they want me to pray for them.
- What do I do?
- Glory be to Jesus.
[Bishop] You can go
ahead and lay your hands on him.
But before you do that,
if he agrees to confess his sins
without any iota of
doubt he will be forgiven.
And be healed, go ahead and pray for him.
[Ruth] It is well.
I know you can feel your environment.
I know you can hear our voice.
We will pray for you.
But you would have to
ask God for forgiveness
and promise him that you
would not go back to your old ways.
That you would teach His word.
According to His holy book and truth,
I know God will forgive you and heal you.
And give you a second chance.
Because what God cannot do,
does not exist.
[Bishop] Let the blood of Jesus answer the
accusers and the critics of the Gospel.
Let the blood speak, cleansing, washing,
through the blood of Jesus
and give him another chance.
Another chance, another chance.
To correct the mistakes
and the errors of the past and do right
by you and by your people.
I pray in Jesus mighty name
that He will not be
high minded in ministry,
but he will have a sound
mind and the mind of Christ
clothed with humility
clothed with humility
of the Lord Jesus Christ,
I thank you Father, in Jesus name.
Amen.
[Todd] I've admired you for many years,
followed your ministry.
I've listened to all your messages
your success, your achievements.
I've tried half of my life to be like you.
Almost to the point of it
being like a competition.
I got away with many things.
I did many horrible things.
I have many skeletons in my closet.
But I come before you today,
broken in all humility.
Please.
I need you to pray for me.
I'm completely broken,
and nothing now.
Please Archbishop.
[Bishop] It is good you are here today.
I've been observing and
following your ministry over the years.
I've heard about your achievements.
And all that you are doing
a lot of young ministries and ministers
are taking shortcuts
and shortcuts will cut you short.
When I hear ministers say
that they want to be like me,
I don't want anybody to be like me.
I'm trying to be like Jesus.
And I expect everybody to be like Jesus.
I don't want anybody
to be a Duncan-Williams.
We all are called to run our path,
and I think it's a big deception
when people
want to be like me.
I mean, you can be inspired
and encouraged by my ministry,
but you don't have to be like me.
[paper rustling]
[Teddy clears throat]
I wasn't feeling well,
so I went
to the doctors to do a test because
I thought I had malaria or something.
And then, I
the test results came out and it says
I'm pregnant,
which I know is impossible because
I understand so I decided to go to
another hospital and do the tests again.
It also said I was pregnant.
[Teddy sobbing]
- It says I was pregnant.
- [somber gospel music playing]
It says I'm pregnant.
It says I'm pregnant.
- [somber gospel music continues]
- [Teddy crying for joy]
It says I was pregnant.
[Bishop] He that acquires wealth
through vanity,
Which means lawlessness.
Breaking the rules.
Doing it your own way.
Running the race
and ignoring the rules of the games.
Ignoring the rules of engagement.
Doing it on your own. Like Jesus said,
he said, when he comes,
many shall come and say, "Master or Lord,
we performed miracles in your name.
We did great things in your name.
We did mighty works in your name
we heal the sick in your name.
We cast out devils in your name."
And Jesus will say,
"You workers of iniquity,
I know you not. Get thee hence from me,
Workers of iniquity."
What is that iniquity?
What does that mean? Lawlessness.
That iniquity means lawlessness.
It means that
you did things on your own terms.
You didn't follow
the laid down procedures.
You didn't follow
divine protocol or the patterns of God.
You serve God on your
own terms, not on his terms.
You did what you wanted to do.
You allowed the provision
to take the place of the provider.
You allowed creation
to take the place of the Creator.
You allowed the blessing
to take the place of the blesser.
And you did your own thing.
And then many would say,
"But we cast out devils in your name."
And Jesus would say it doesn't matter.
Because my name is like a key.
-I can take your key right now
-[key jingling]
your car key and go to the
garage or go to the car park
and I can start your car
and the car will start.
The car will not tell me
that you don't own me,
you don't own me.
You are a thief,
the car will respond to the key.
I don't trust
any ministry, anyone who
haven't been tested and tried.
It is the things you survive
that determines your longevity.
A lot of people say to me,
Papa, what is the secret of your success?
And I tell them I am not yet successful
because true success is not
what you have but it is how you finish.
It's how you end the race.
People begin well and some don't end well.
[gospel music playing]
[Ruth laughing]
I can hear it.
-I think he just kicked... yes, yes listen
-[Teddy mutters indistinctly]
- [Teddy] I can hear it.
- [Ruth laughs]
[gospel music continues]
I believe The Taste of Sin
teaches all of us about consequences.
That whatever choices
or decisions we make in life,
they will always come
with consequences whether good or bad.
The Bible says, "Let him that thinketh
he stands take heed lets he falls".
It is not the falling
but It is how you respond to the falling.
Because if you look
at the movie carefully,
the pastor or the man of God
who fell bounced
back again, and it has to do with
cultivating the attitude and the capacity
to despise shame.
Jesus despised the shame.
And one
of the consequences of sin is shame.
It makes you run from God.
And that was what happened
when God came into the Garden of Eden.
He said, "Adam where are you?"
He said, "I was afraid
because I was naked and I hid myself."
And God said, "Who told you you are naked
because you've always been naked,
and my glory covered you."
And that is what sin does.
It makes you run away from God.
So I want to say to you, it doesn't
matter the temptation, the trial,
what you're dealing with, what you're
going through, don't run away from God.
Run to God and
look on to Jesus, the author
and the finisher
of your faith and He will fix you.
That is the God
you and I serve, don't give up on God
because God will never give up on you.
[gospel music continues]
[gospel music continues]
Subtitle Translation by: Regina Njoku.
[Choir] Holy words long preserved
For our walk in this world
They resound with God's own heart
Oh, let the Ancient words impart
[singer] Words of Life
[Choir] Words of life, words of hope
Give us strength, help us cope
In this world, where e'er we roam
Ancient words will guide us Home
Ancient words ever true
- Changing me, and changing you.
- [singer] Changing me...
- [singer] Oh we have come...
- We have come with open hearts
[Bishop] When every
knee shall bow and every tongue,
whether you like it or not,
it's mandatory that you confess
and acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord.
A day is coming...
A day is coming when the arrogance of men
will come to a halt, where the pride
of men, the dignities of men...
the brilliance of men,
and yeah the intellectual
capabilities of men will mean nothing.
And on that day, every knee will bow.
And the lamb shall make war,
revanquish the
power of the enemy among us.
- We mute the voice of the adversary.
- [music fades out]
We discredit the voice
of the accuser of your people.
In the name of Jesus.
- We command deliverances of the captives.
- [piano playing]
We command salvation for all.
Now let God arise.
In the name of He seated
on the right of the Father,
to ever make intercession,
- our soon coming King,
- You are
-Jesus Christ the son of God
-The Lord for all time and age
You are on the throne
You are the Lord
[anticipatory music playing]
[Bishop] It's the fifth marriage
anniversary of Pastor Teddy
Hanson and his angelic wife,
Ruth.
[church cheering and clapping]
- [choir singing]
- [audience clapping]
Just as King David in the Bible,
is a man after God's heart,
so is Pastor Teddy Hanson
a man after God's heart.
Since he was a teenager,
he dedicated his life
to the service of the Lord,
making sure that his kingdom is built.
And in his beautiful, angelic wife, Ruth,
he finds a virtuous woman,
a woman full of grace and truth.
When the time comes and the Lord decides
to summon me to His
bosom, I wouldn't be worried.
No, I will be fulfilled
because I know that Pastor Teddy Hanson
will pick the mantle
of leadership in truth and in spirit,
to lead this church to greater heights.
[instrument playing]
[Choir] We are a chosen generation
We've been called
Forth to show his excellence
Hey all I require for life
God has given me
And I know who I am
[musical beats continues]
I hear the whispers, the gossips,
from people
you have anointed and prayed for.
They say that we can pray
for barren women to get pregnant.
Yet we cannot pray
for ourselves to have a child of our own.
Those women I prayed
for their wombs becoming fruitful.
That wasn't my will.
That was God's will.
Perhaps it's not God's time yet to
let us have children we can call our own.
When God says it's time,
he will surely bless us with children.
You remember Abraham and Sara, don't you?
What are those for?
Oh, Pastor your mom is here.
She come with them.
[soft music playing]
[Ruth sighs]
- Is everything okay?
- Baby things.
Oh, that. [laughs]
I saw them on my way back.
And decided to purchase.
Maybe it's a sign.
Look, I know God will surely
bless this home with a child.
[Teddy] Amen.
[in Twi] You may have missed
some and all women must sit down.
Listen, I'm going to ask.
- [in English] Amen.
- Amen.
[people cheering and clapping]
- [continuous beeping]
- [cheering, clapping]
Good evening, you're welcome to
Ladies Lounge here with me, Caroline.
My guest
tonight is one controversial author.
He pushes the buttons.
He loves to do that
and also tries to have those
uncomfortable conversations with everyone.
He launches his book very soon
and he's here on the hot seat.
- He's Mr. Kofi Anderson.
- [Kofi laughs]
We're happy
to have you in the studio tonight.
- Delighted to be on your show, Caroline.
- [Caroline] So...
[Caroline] Now,
let's talk about this book.
You have already launched a few books
that touched on very controversial topics,
homosexuality, tithing.
And this time around, it's on marriage.
Why the focus on marriage this time?
[Kofi] We always look at every problem.
We associate it spiritually,
- [Caroline laugh] Okay, right.
- including marital, marriages,
instead of looking
at the practical side of it,
like going to a marriage counselor
or going to a doctor to seek out solution,
we always run to the pastor.
You do know that everyone
will agree with your viewpoints on this.
Caroline, I know hat
people would not agree with me.
But, nobody really agrees with the truth.
The people who have lived
five years and ten years of their lives,
marital lives, and have not had children
and then they go after these pastors,
they tell them to roll on the floor.
They step on stomachs and all of that
when they could have just gotten
solution from a marriage
counselor or go and seek,
you know consultation, consult the doctor.
Maybe they could be
some health issues with you.
You should read the book.
And when you read the book the
others who will read it, will understand
that it's God who gives wisdom
for us to write these things.
Teddy.
We need to go and see a doctor.
I don't understand.
You don't understand what?
We need to go and see a doctor.
Are you sick? Is there a problem?
We need to do a medical checkup.
We need to check what the problem is.
Teddy, why are we not having children.
Ruth.
We're not God.
We don't give children only He does.
If it's destined
for us to have children, we will.
We have fasted
and prayed to God to have a child.
But we still do not have children.
What we've not done
is a thorough medical checkup.
To find out why we are not having kids.
Everything is not about prayer.
Sometimes you need to do the work.
Like I said,
we're not God, when
the time is right, we will have children.
Are you hiding something from me?
No.
Does it bother you at all
that we do not have a child?
Does it bother you that for five years
of marriage we have not had children?
Well,
I am perfectly fine.
You can go and see a doctor,
but I'm not going.
If you want peace,
you will follow me to see the doctor
tomorrow morning.
Be ready at nine a.m.
[Piano playing]
No, no, no.
It's okay, sit down.
[sighs]
Thank you for your various reports.
We are quite satisfied with the work
you've been doing in our various branches.
I would like to remind you,
keep preaching.
Imbibe in the people,
the spirit of giving,
giving, giving, paying of tithe, offering,
donations, sowing of seeds.
We ran all necessary tests.
And
Mr. Hanson, your result shows
that you are perfectly okay.
Mrs. Hanson,
your result shows
that there's a damage to your uterus.
I guess this
was not detected early and treated.
-And so it's led to a condition that we
-[soft music playing]
call an incompetent cervix.
Um, please, Doctor,
can you speak in plain terms?
[sighs] Okay.
Your wife has the condition we call the
Scheuermann's syndrome, which is
caused by the bruising of the uterus.
And that leads to infertility.
I don't understand.
Mrs. Hanson, the Scheuermann's syndrome
can be said in plain language,
as an abortion gone wrong,
and this leads to the removal of the womb
In medicine,
we call it a total hysterectomy.
[soft music continues]
[Mrs. Hanson mutters] Let's go.
Thanks for your time.
You're welcome.
Do you want some water?
Is there something you want to tell me?
It's fine.
I'll be in the bedroom
whenever you're ready to talk.
Please sit.
I was a child.
An orphan living with my aunt.
You know exams is on Monday?
- Yes.
- Good.
So I called you here
for us to do the thing,
so I can pass you.
Do what?
- Oh, are you a small girl?
- Yes.
How can a fourteen
year old girl be a small girl?
I'm not 14. I'm 13.
[laughs] But it doesn't matter,
just one year difference,
it doesn't make any difference, okay.
I haven't had this experience before.
[clicks tongue] Don't worry
there's always a first time.
If you fail, your auntie will
send you back to the village.
Do you want to
go back to the village to weed?
- No.
- Good.
- [sighs] Either the village or in.
- [sad tune plays]
Take a decision now.
[Ruth] That was just the beginning.
And how did you know you were pregnant?
Nana took me out for a test.
Oh, so Nana knows about it?
[Ruth] They took me to this...
far location to get the child removed.
Which one of you is here
to remove the baby?
[exclaims] What is happening?
I mean, which one
of you is here to remove the baby?
You're Ruth? Come with me.
An abortion that was meant
to last just a few hours,
took me two weeks in an unknown location.
I was declared a missing child.
[sighs]
But one thing I did not know
that the teacher hid from me that...
that...
that my womb was removed in the process.
And now... [sighs]
Now I don't have a womb to carry baby.
When your mother so desire.
[exclaims]
[Ruth sighs]
[sniffles] I have to go. I'm sorry.
- Hey, hey, hey. Where you going?
- Let me go.
- You will go nowhere.
- Please let me go.
I am barren.
I can't give you a child.
Then we will adopt one.
There're so many orphans out there
who deserve parents to care for them.
I didn't marry you solely
because I wanted children.
It's because I love you.
You're my heart, your're my soul.
And always remember that
there's nothing that's impossible for God.
If he wants us
to have children, we will have children.
Let God manifest in our lives.
- [music playing]
- [Ruth sobbing]
The junior ministers, really showed
their true colors today at the meeting.
Such an ungrateful bunch.
We give so much yet
they give so little in return.
- Honey, what happened?
- Simple task.
Tell the people to donate
because the Lord commands them to.
Kwesi.
Not long ago you made a declaration,
that the Lord has commanded
the members to donate to the poor.
[in Twi] Kwesi! Is it just a business now?
Kwesi... Oh this old lady!
[in English] Just in
case you have forgotten,
eh stated that he was going to
give three of his most exotic cars
to three ministers
that have done really well.
When we give we have to recoup.
Honey.
[whispering] Thank you very much.
Hurry up.
We're not running
a charitable organization here.
And yet you are
collecting money from the members
in the name of donating to the poor.
Kwesi, be careful.
[in English] I am not
talking to you, woman.
I am talking to my son.
And I can speak
for your son because I am his wife.
The bone of his bone
and the flesh of his flesh.
[in Twi] Where were you
when I conceived him?
Young Lady!
[in English] I demand some respect, woman.
Kwesi.
[in Twi] Where
did you pick this woman from?
[Kwesi] Mum, please let's eat.
[woman in English] Enjoying
your food right? [laughs]
Wow! You're beautiful.
Yes, you are.
And you look pregnant.
- Yes.
- [tense music plays]
I got it right.
Yes, she is pregnant.
Wow.
Wow.
- [sighs]
- [tense music continues]
Is there something you're not telling me?
[hesitating] Is... is...
Is everything okay?
- It's okay. Mom.
- What is okay?
- I will handle it.
- You'll handle what?
I'll be in my bedroom.
Son.
Son.
What is all this?
I don't understand you.
What's going on?
What is going on here?
Can someone tell me something?
The one thing you so desire from us,
I can't give.
What is that?
I don't have a womb.
What's the meaning of that?
I don't have a womb to give you children.
- Son, what is going on?
- [Teddy] Tell me what is going on.
Because you have
to tell me because I don't know.
[indistinct conversation]
[woman] How... How could I know?
[Teddy] Of course you should know.
- She wasn't smiling, for crying out loud.
- Oh my goodness.
Every time you're on my case,
you want a baby, you want a baby.
[woman] But what do you expect me...
You're my only son, for God's sake.
- [Teddy] We can adopt a baby.
- [woman] Adoption?
- [woman] Did I adopt you?
- [Teddy] No, you didn't. Ma see,
- [woman] Oh my goodness.
- [Teddy] you come in here as a problem.
[Teddy] You know you're going
to put her in a dark place.
How are you
expecting her to get out of it?
How are you
expecting her to get out of it?
Everyday you want a baby.
Just leave her alone! [echoing] Alone!
[music playing]
Bishop please,
Pastor Mrs. Hanson is here to see you.
Okay.
[footsteps approaching]
Sir.
Thank you so much for honoring
my invitation on such a short notice.
Oh, it's not a problem, Bishop
David and I discussed.
He told me
about your visit to the hospital.
Well,
there is something I need to tell you.
Jesus is in control.
He's the master of our destinies.
I need to find him.
Who?
Mr. Adjei, the school teacher.
Sir, the CEO of Accra's Investment Bank,
just made a huge donation to the account.
- [dramatic music playing]
- [codes copyrights]
[Kwesi] Look who we have here,
the one and only Anita.
Lucifer himself is jealous of your voice.
How are you, Pastor Teddy?
- It's nice to see you.
- [Teddy] Nice to see you.
- [Kwesi] Anita.
- Yes Sir.
Africa wakes up
waiting to listen to your song.
Thank you, Reverend.
- The nation's rise and shine.
- [Anita chuckles]
- Your voice is the anthem of the country.
- Thank you.
- [chuckles]
- So tell me.
You know, I told Teddy Pastor,
I said, if you don't bring Anita
for this year's conference,
you better stay at home.
You look beautiful,
[Ruth] Mr. Adjei.
Who are you?
Ruth.
Ruth?
Ruth, Achimota.
Do I know you?
[Ruth] Oh, my God.
Oh, Ruth.
Ruth, my dear, please sit down.
You've grown into such a big woman now.
Oh, Ruth.
But, how did you find me?
I went to the school
and spoke to some teachers
until someone
finally gave me your address.
I desperately wanted to see your face,
What happened to you?
Old age and sickness.
And your wife?
She left me for another man.
And she turned the children against me.
I have been trying to reach them, but
they don't want to see me.
To them, [sighs]
I'm dead.
[Ruth] Because of you.
I will never be able
to have children again in my life.
What can be worse than that?
I just wanted to see you
eyeball to eyeball and tell you that
I leave your judgment in the hands of God.
[Teddy] Your performance is going
to kickstart the meeting so
I think you should go freshen up
so that you'll be ready for it, okay.
Yes, Pastor.
Um, excuse me, Pastor.
[sighs] Please, how is your wife?
I noticed she didn't come along.
She's feeling a bit under the weather.
Oh, I thought so.
You guys are always together.
- [Teddy chuckles softly]
- When I see you, I see her.
When I see her, I see you.
[Anita chuckles]
Your performance is
in two hours, get ready.
Yes, Pastor.
[dialer ringing]
- [Teddy clears throat] Yes. Hello.
- [man] Hello, reception.
- [man] Hello.
- Is this the reception?
[man] Yes, sir.
Okay, this is Pastor Hanson.
- [man] Yes, Pastor Hanson, 2005.
- Great.
I'm trying to reach Anita,
but she's not answering.
I just want to confirm.
Is her room number 1008?
- [man] Yes, please. That's correct.
- Okay. Thank you.
[man] You're most welcome, sir.
[phone keypad clicking]
- [phone ringing]
- [shower running]
[sighs]
- Maybe she's sleeping.
- [tense tune plays]
I'll just...
- [shower continue running]
- [tense music swells]
[Anita singing]
- Nana, you've been my best friend.
- Yes.
[Ruth] Nana, how could you?!
How could you keep something
like this from me for such a long time?
You saw me get
married to this man knowing full
well that I cannot bear children for him.
I have cried.
I have complained about my predicament.
And you have said nothing about it.
I cannot bear children for my husband.
I cannot give my
mother-in-law grandchildren.
I cannot fulfill my purpose
as a wife because I do not have a womb.
Nana.
Tell me, of what use am I?
How could you?!
Ruth.
It was never my intention to hurt you.
Never.[sniffles]
Yes, I knew about it but Mr. Adjei made me
swear an oath of silence.
- [Doctor] Teacher.
- [Mr. Adjei] Yes.
[Doctor] I'm afraid,
there are some complications.
[Mr. Adjei] What are you talking about?
For the baby to be completely removed,
I might have to remove her womb.
[Mr. Adjei] Look do everything possible.
As long as she is not
carrying the baby any more.
Just that.
Did you discover...
[in English] Nana... [inaudible]
Come here. Nana.
Nana, stop running.
[exclaims]
- Why are you running?
- They're going to take her womb.
- She's going to die.
- She won't die.
[Mr. Adjei] Look, listen here.
I don't want you
to tell anybody about this.
Do you hear me? Come with me.
You're going to take an oath.
Come with me.
Besides when David came into your life,
your life changed for the better.
You were so happy.
How could I ever think of
saying something that would,
ruin [sniffles] such happiness?
[sniffles] Ruth.
I was wrong, I know but
I couldn't have said anything that would
take the happiness away from you.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
[in Twi] Nana,
you have not been a good friend.
You have not been a good friend, at all.
Ruth...
Please forgive me, forgive me.
[in English] Please forgive me, please.
How could you?
[sighs]
God, help me.
Hello.
Anita.
Please come to my office immediately.
[tense music playing]
[woman] You.
Yes, you. You're fired.
You don't know what you're doing.
You're such
an unprofitable and slothful servant.
You were all given a task
to raise a sum of $20,000
towards our humanitarian profit.
And up to now, nothing.
Lady G.O, please understand.
The branch oversees is a very small town.
And my members are significantly poor.
That's your excuse.
It's clearly written that even the poor
should donate to the church
and they will be blessed.
- [Teddy] Anita, please sit down.
- [Anita] Thank you.
I need to do this
for God and to clear my conscience
of the guilt I feel.
I want to say that I am sorry.
And if you can find it
in your heart to forgive me.
Okay, you're forgiven.
But what is it?
The ministerial conference at the hotel.
I came to knock on
your door but it was open and
I saw you half naked.
I...
I found myself lusting after you.
I couldn't even leave.
- I know.[sighs]
- [soft music playing]
- I saw you.
- What?
You saw me?
Yes.
I just decided not to say anything.
Why?
I didn't know what to say.
[sighs]
- I'm so sorry.
- It's okay.
It's fine.
Can I leave?
Yes, sure.
[breathes heavily]
Do you want to know why
I didn't say anything
Even when I knew that
you were staring at my naked body?
I know you're married,
you're faithful and righteous.
And I know that there are
so many women, old and young in the church
that admire you.
I struggle not to think of you.
I could say I love you,
but I know I can't have
you because you love your wife.
And she's been so nice
and loving towards me.
[sighs] I... I don't know.
This is the adversary trying to,
lead us to temptation.
This is just a...
trial of our faith.
For God will never allow us to be tempted
beyond what we can bear.
We can conquer this
with fervent and sincere prayers.
Okay.
Okay.
[Lady G.O] Hey!
[phone ringing]
Your mom.
Yes, mom.
This is going too far
and it's getting out of hand.
Mommy, this church has been making steady
progress under my leadership.
Please,
Please,
Can we talk later?
Thank you.
- [Teddy] Love is God's language.
- [crickets chirping]
The love is so strong and immense that
there is no tool that can
be used to quantify the amount
of love that God has for mankind.
So strong that He
sent down His only begotten Son.
I struggle not to think of you.
- I could say I love you.
- Noah.
To come and die, to shed his blood.
To forgive us our sins.
Noah?
Or Jesus?
Oh, sorry.
I meant Jesus.
I meant Jesus.
Now, the love that Jesus has
for mankind is so strong that even when.
Joseph betrayed him,
he hugged him and kissed him.
[in language] Which Joseph?
[in English] Joseph?
Judas.
I meant Judas.
I meant Judas. [sighs]
It's okay.
But there are rules
that we still have to live by.
True.
Through the twenty commandments
that God sent to Moses.
Hey, which twenty?
Ten or twenty?
[giggles] Sorry.
I meant, the ten commandments.
- Mr. Anointed, are you okay?
- I'm okay.
- Are you sure?
- I am okay. I'm sorry.
I... I mean, the ten commandments.
But you get what I mean?
Sin dates back to
the early days of Adam and Eve.
God gave them a simple instruction,
particularly Adam, "Do not touch
this forbidden fruit."
Now, when God realized that Adam
had touched the forbidden fruit,
he came down angrily and started
shouting and calling out Adam's name.
"Adam.
Adam,
where art thou?"
And Anita answered.
"God, I am here, and I'm naked."
Ani... what?
In which Bible?
In this Bible.
Anita?
[groans] Ah! Sorry.
I'm... I'm confused. You know the,
the song ministration that she she gave
was so powerful
that it had a lot of impact.
I know. Anita is an amazing girl.
She's made
a lot of mark in people's lives.
You know, without Anita
the choir wouldn't be where it is today.
Certainly not.
She's exceptional.
- But I meant Adam.
- Adam, yeah.
You know what?
Enough of the scripture.
Let's share a word of prayer.
Come on, Anita.
Ani who?
[laughs] Oh, my goodness.
Sorry, I... I...[chuckles]
I meant Ruth. I'm sorry.
I know, I know.
[both sigh]
[Teddy] Love.
Hey, handsome.
Where are you going? Looking so hot.
Like the man
I met back in the Uni days. [laughs]
Nothing serious. I'm just going to go
take care of some challenges.
- It comes with the calling.
- I know.
Alright, let me walk you to the car.
[indistinct chattering]
- [birds chirping]
- [soft music playing]
[Teddy mouthing prayer]
Amen.
My man is on fire.
The devil is in trouble.
- He is anointed.
- [Teddy laughs]
Take care of yourself.
- You too.
- [Ruth] Love you.
- [gospel music playing]
- [car engine starts]
[Anita] Pastor Teddy.
[chuckling] What a surprise?
I wasn't expecting you.
- [Teddy] May I?
- [Anita] Sure, sure.
- I, I actually came here to fight.
- [Anita scoffs]
I don't understand.
I came to fight my feelings for you.
But you've become
the bane of my existence.
[heart beats]
- I guess I can't.
- [Anita breathing heavily]
I can't fight it anymore.
[breathes heavily]
[both panting]
[both breathing heavily]
[both continue panting]
Reverend, I'm taking my leave.
Lily...
Do you know what bothers me the most
as the general overseer of the church?
No, Reverend Todd.
The people.
The people are fake.
They present themselves...
differently
as opposed to who they truly are,
especially in my presence.
Lily.
[Lily] Pastor.
I want to ask you a question.
And I don't expect
you to lie to me as a man of God.
I don't expect you to be fake,
like the very people
I'm telling you about.
Tell me the truth.
If I were to ask you out on a date,
if I were to ask you out on a date
behind closed doors,
would you take the offer?
Reverend,
I would be scared to accept the offer.
Why?
Because you're my pastor.
And pastors don't have feelings?
Besides, Pastor,
I'm not your type.
And how would you know my type?
I'm just your errand girl.
[music playing]
Come closer.
Closer.
A little more.
- Lilly.
- Pastor.
Can you keep a secret?
[birds chirping]
[music continue playing]
I feel empty,
and out of virtue.
I feel naked,
and out of life.
What is it?
What happened?
I...
I...
I love you.
I miss you.
[Teddy sighs]
Teddy, look at me.
Look at me, Teddy.
I see stories in your eyes
but yet I can't make sense out of it.
You feel trapped, right?
Because of your faith
and religious status.
You're afraid of what people will say.
Pastor David Hanson
divorced his wife.
Scandal.
Very big scandal.
Teddy.[cries]
So you want to remain childless
for the rest of your life
because of the love you have me?
Or is it because of what people would say?
Or that you're okay with it?
Oh, Teddy,
divorce me.
I'd be happy.
Be set free.
Divorce you?
[phone chimes]
Honey, I think you have a message.
[phone chiming continuously]
[Teddy sighs]
[phone chimes]
[Ruth sighs]
Bible, please.
Thank you.
- [Phone chiming]
- [keyboard typing]
And so, Pastor, as a philanthropist,
I would like to donate this money
to your charity foundation.
Open it.
[musical beats]
- Father, may her enemies die.
- Amen.
I command fresh oil on your head.
- Amen.
- Your hands shall never lack.
Amen.
Amen.
I receive it, God bless you Pastor.
Please, can you help me close it?
- Thank you very much for your prayers.
- No, Lydia.
Okay.
- So Pastor I will make time and...
- Lydia.
Where are you going?
Now, you can go.
I'll make time and come to the foundation.
-You will never lack
-I receive it.
- You've engaged an ordinance.
- Amen.
- You have engaged a law.
- Amen.
- The Lord shall never fail you.
- I receive it.
So what's the plan?
About what?
Your wife.
What about my wife?
You know, your wife can never,
ever give me a grandchild.
And that is my worry.
Mom, Ruth and I
have had a discussion and we are adopting.
Adopting what?
What is wrong with you?
Have they washed your face with something?
In fact, wait, did I adopt you?
Look an adopted child
will never, ever be my grand child.
What does that even mean?
And it's not every time that your child
is supposed to come from your own ribs.
All you have to do is just accept
the child and shower the child with love.
Which love?
Do you know
the child you're going to adopt?
Do you know their lineage?
Don't make that mistake.
I am telling you
and I will say it 1000 times
that I need a child
from your ribs and that is final.
Well,
if you won't accept the child, we will.
So be ready to never
consider yourself as a grandmother.
And I'll really appreciate it
if we don't have this discussion again.
I don't want my wife
feeling uncomfortable in her own home.
- Make sure the Bishop get these reports.
- Okay.
- And schedule a church council for...
- [message beeps]
next week Satur...
Okay, Sir.
Anita.
Is this true?
I sent that message three hours ago.
There was no response so I had to come.
I just received it but...
Is this true?
Jesus.
If I stay here,
I will be the headline
of every paper and tabloid.
I need to travel overseas.
That way, we can successfully
hide it until the baby is born.
You can't keep it.
You can't keep this baby.
There's too much at stake right now.
Your reputation,
my reputation will be destroyed.
In the church,
in the community, in the country.
If news spreads out about our affair
and the result of it.
Anita, please.
Perhaps when you get pregnant again,
we will seriously consider it
and might keep it.
I understand.
If we have to do this,
promise me that you'd be there by my side
until I go through it.
You can get a private hospital.
In the hospital?
Who's going to
know what we're doing there?
Besides, it's just going to be you,
the doctor and a nurse.
- [Teddy huffs]
- I really need you.
I need you there with me.
- [phone chiming continuously]
- [upbeat afro music playing]
[phone chiming]
- [phone chiming continuously]
- [music playing]
[phone chiming continuously]
[sighs]
I don't feel too good about this.
What do you want?
[Anita sighs]
Where is Teddy?
Pastor is in my office.
[sighs] Okay.
It's okay, let's do this.
- Are you sure?
- Yes.
- Pastor Hanson.
- Teddy is fine.
There have been some complications.
What complications?
The friction on her uterus,
which is very dangerous to her life.
If we don't try to
save her now, she might die.
Doctor, please just do anything that
you can to save her right now, please.
You will need to sign a consent form
to give us the permission to go ahead.
- Is that okay?
- Okay.
Alright come with me.
Doctor, Doctor, she is not breathing.
What? Come let me check.
[tense music playing]
[sobbing]
Yes, Anita Boakye just died.
Yes, in my hospital.
She came for an abortion and she died.
[wailing]
Why?
Pastor Teddy should
not be allowed to go scot-free.
Anita was my favorite gospel singer.
May her soul rest in peace.
[in Ashanti] Look, since he could do
this shameful thing, impregnating a girl,
then why make her to abort the baby?
Such has never happened.
It's a very big shame!
[in English] Pastor Teddy is a joke, bro.
We need to bust his ass from the system.
Bishop, please have a look
at what's going on on social media.
According to a post, Bishop,
she died due to complications
of a surgical operation.
Hmm
My Anita?
[in language] Why will a
Pastor commit such sins...
Adultery, abortion, murder!
[in English] Pastor Teddy was our family's
role model but we are so disappointed.
[in language] He must be executed!
[in English] My friends are mocking me
at school because he was my Pastor.
[male voice on radio] Well, breaking news
coming from the Church of God.
Popular gospel singer,
Anita has just died.
Reports alleging that she died
from an attempted abortion.
It is also alleged that Pastor Teddy
literally forced her to terminate her baby
- after a scandalous affair.
- [phone chiming continuously]
We'll bring you the latest
in this developing story.
Good evening and welcome
to another episode of The Ladies Lounge.
My name is Caroline.
The whole nation has been mourning the
death of one of its brightest stars Anita.
Such heartbreaking news.
And my guest today is Anita's cousin, Joy,
who is here to share some jaw dropping
details on the life of the late singer
and what could have caused her death.
Joy, welcome
and thank you for accepting my invitation.
Our deepest condolence.
- Thank you.
- So what exactly happened?
[Joy] All started
[voice breaking] when she started
having an affair with one Pastor Teddy.
I was against it
because he was married.
[sobbing] But she was adamant
because she loved him
and believed he loved her, too.
[sniffles]
So she got pregnant.
This Pastor Teddy, wanted her to abort.
Last time I heard from my cousin [crying]
was the night she went to the hospital.
[Caroline] Wow, a Pastor,
he's also married,
was having an affair with your cousin.
Got her pregnant and persuaded her
to have an abortion
that eventually killed her.
Men of God.
And I'm sure you have a lot running
through your minds at home, too.
Thank you for watching.
[panting]
[Ruth continues panting]
[Children] We love you Anita,
may your soul rest in peace.
We love you Anita,
may your soul rest in peace.
[panting]
[sad music playing]
Is it true?
[yells] Is it true?
[both sobbing]
[police siren wailing]
[police siren wailing]
[Ruth panting]
The police are here.
- [Ruth sobbing]
- [melancholic music playing]
[police siren wailing]
[Somber music playing]
[vehicle engine roaring]
[cameras clicking]
[reporters mummering]
- [indistinct chattering outside]
- [camera shutters clicking]
[Patrick] So barrister Newton Jakes,
I would like to ask you,
what is your take on the
ongoing case between Pastor Teddy Hanson
and the late gospel musician Anita?
So basically, to give you some background,
here we have Pastor Teddy Hanson
and late singer Anita,
who we all know and loved and cherished.
They had a personal relationship
and they were intimate together.
She got pregnant
and they had to have an abortion.
Then Anita unfortunately passed.
So as a representative of the law
and a man of the courts.
The pastor should not be reprimanded.
The facts of the matter state that Anita
and both Pastor Teddy were
not minors, and they both consented
to having sexual intercourse
before any of these such events happened.
In fact, there are papers
even to show from the hospital
that Anita actually signed with
both signatures from her and the Pastor,
to show that she was
knowledgeable of what was going on.
The law cannot act on this
because they both consented.
I'm sorry.
You had A Taste of Sin.
And when a believer does,
the consequences are severe and grievous
more than a person living in sin.
That's why the Bible says,
"Let he that thinks he stands
take heed lest he falls."
Today you have fallen.
But tomorrow
I pray that you should rise again.
[Bishop] Wherefore
let him that thinks he stands
take heed lest he falls.
1st Corinthians, chapter ten verse twelve.
In your minds, you think you're good.
In your minds,
you think you are righteous.
In your mind, you think you pay your tithe
so all is well in Zion.
And then you begin to falter.
You begin to lose control.
You forget to watch and pray.
Brethren, take heed lest you fall.
For the adversary is like a roaring lion
seeking for whom to devour.
[Ruth] I have been
thinking for days and nights.
But I can't find answers to my questions.
I, your wife, cannot give you a child.
I would never be able to give you a child.
That you and your mother so desire.
Teddy.
If you could stoop so low
to commit such an atrocity
against me your wife,
against God, against your calling,
the best you could
think of was to kill the child?
I guess I'll never find an answer to that.
Now, see how low
the devil has brought you?
[Bishop] When you see the clouds
rise from the west,
you'll say it's going to rain and it does.
When the south winds blow,
you say it's going to be hot and it does.
Now you can predict the face of the earth.
Why then,
do you not know
the meaning of the times in which we are.
Brethren,
Pastors, I say unto you,
"Take heed lest you fall."
I have failed God.
But I will not stay low.
[vehicle engine roaring]
- Have you done it?
- Goodness, I was waiting for you.
Goodness, you should have done it by now.
Do a video on the passing of Anita,
- of my wife and I.
- [Lily] Yes Sir.
- Right now.
- [Lily] Yes, Sir.
My wife and I are completely
shaken, taken aback
by the sudden loss of our beloved Anita.
May her beautiful,
beautiful, beautiful soul
rest in the bosom of the Almighty.
This issue has projected a bad image
of Pastors and Ministers
of God in this country.
Givers never lack.
Anita, may your beautiful soul
rest in perfect peace.
[Ruth] Ever since I met him,
you have always been his spiritual father.
He has always wanted to be like you.
To talk like you, to walk like you,
to pray and preach like you.
He listens to your ministrations
every single morning.
But today, he has fallen from grace.
He has failed
all those who look up to him.
He has failed his ministry.
He's failed his calling.
And above all he has failed God.
Please pray for us.
[voice breaking] Please help us.
This country is
just too much for us to bear.
The lawyers are currently
trying to get him out of detention.
And the church does not
want to be part of this shameful case.
I don't know what to do, Papa.
Please help us.
Please.
[sobbing]
I want to ask you something now.
Do you still love him?
Yes, I do.
Listening to...
everything you've said and following
the story with your husband,
I believe that what is happening to him
is not wickedness, but a weakness.
And this will require
deliverance and a lot of intercession.
And there's nobody
better than you
as the wife to stand in the gap.
It is in moments and times
like these that your love for him
can really be demonstrated and tested.
So I will stand
in the gap with you for him.
But one of the things we will need
is to pray
that God will give him a second chance.
And when he comes out of prison,
that we will have the opportunity
to be able to take
him through deliverance,
because confession and repentance is good,
but he has to go through
deliverance to break the soul tie
and to renounce the legal grounds.
Because if he doesn't
go through deliverance,
this thing can reoccur,
it will keep happening.
So let's pray.
[woman yells] How dare you?!
How dare you!
Tell me it's not true.
And I'll believe you.
Tell me it is not true.
And I'll believe you.
I know it's on social media.
It's on television. It's on radio.
In fact everybody is talking about it.
I want to hear from you, Pastor Teddy.
Tell me you didn't do it.
Did you do it?
- Did you do it, Pastor Teddy?
- Yes, I did.
I did.
You did?
You did knowing how
desperately I needed a grandchild.
Knowing that your wife
can never, never give us a child.
And God blessed you with a child.
- And...
- God didn't bless me with a child.
The devil cursed me with a child.
The devil cursed you to go after the girl?
Did the devil force you
to take the girl to your room?
Did the devil force you to open her legs?
[emotional music playing]
Was it a curse from the devil
when you were having fun?
Enough, enough!
[sniffing]
I prayed to God
and I asked him for forgiveness.
I know.
- You should forgive me.
- [soft music playing]
- Mom.
- [sniffles]
I'm just going to ask you for one thing.
I don't want you to ever,
ever come here to pay me a visit.
-I don't want you nor my wife,
-[sobbing]
nor my church members.
I don't want anybody
to come pay me a visit.
When I get out,
you can come home to see your son.
I want to spend the rest of my time here
with God.
[yells] Officer!
[sniffles]
[audience clapping]
[Clapping fades]
We're all aware that Pastor Teddy Hanson
served this church for several years.
We do appreciate his
selfless service to this church.
However,
after much thought and deliberation,
the Council of Elders of this church,
we have decided to suspend Pastor Teddy
from all church
related activities until further notice.
You know Ruth,
The Bible said, "The steadfast
love of the Lord never ceases.
His mercies never come to an end.
They are renewed every morning
and great is His faithfulness."
Looking at him,
knowing him and the situation,
do you sense a genuine
repentance, remorse?
We need to invoke
and plead the mercies of God,
which is exemption
from judgment or consequence
to discharge him and acquit him
from every legal grounds
that these act have given to the accuser
against him in the courts of heaven
and in any Satanic court of jurisdiction.
We need to pray
on the account of the blood of Jesus.
God said to Abraham, "Your descendants
will go into captivity for 400 years,
and after 400 years,
I'll bring them out with great substance."
So it's not what you go through,
but it's how and what you come out with.
So we want to pray the mercies of God
will triumph in this matter,
that God's mercy will answer for Him.
And will mute and silence
- the voice of the accuser of the Brethren.
- [mutters] Amen.
Let us pray.
You hold your son in prison.
We pray that you will look favorably
upon the brokenness
of your daughter and your son.
And that mercy, mercy, mercy will triumph.
As it is written over judgment.
For it is written,
"In wrath, remember mercy,
in the midst
of the years, revive thy work."
We pray, Heavenly Father
that in name of your Son Jesus,
you will extend the courtesy
of your mercy to your daughter
and to your son, and that
he will be acquitted and discharged
and brought out of this situation.
That grace will be extended to them
to be able to handle
and will show mercy to others.
Even as he has obtained mercy. For blessed
are the merciful
for they shall obtain mercy.
Let mercy be right now,
in the name of your son Jesus,
be extended to Ruth
and to the husband and pray
that your church will stay intact,
and that the faith
of so many, in the name of Jesus,
will not be destroyed by this act.
I thank you for mercy
that upholds all things. Amen.
Amen.
[gospel music playing]
Are you okay?
I no longer
feel comfortable in this house.
I think we should move out of town.
Lay low, so everything subsides.
That is what the devil wants.
He wants us to run away from our problems.
And that, I will never do.
I have forgiven myself,
knowing that God has forgiven all my sins.
I will stand and face my adversities.
For I know that I can do all things
through Christ who strengthens me.
So what are we going to do?
You've been suspended from the church.
I know,
but the pulpit is not the only way
I can take God's word to the people.
There's only one problem.
Which is?
The house, the car,
They don't belong to us.
They belong to the church.
I've failed you, Papa.
[sighs] I know.
Have a seat.
[Teddy sniffles]
My son,
you have failed God.
He is the omnipotent,
omnipresent and the omniscient God.
He knew my name even before I was born.
He called me into his works.
And I will pay it.
He knew a day like this was going to come.
And yet He watched me fall
into the trap of the devil.
And now I am nothing
but a shadow of myself.
A living man.
Yet dead.
[sobbing]
A man is tempted
when he is drawn out
of his own lust, and enticed.
God has no hand in your sin.
I have served God in spirit and in truth.
Just A Taste of Sin.
And I have become the worst
and most talked about criminal.
He turned his back on me,
and watched the world humiliate me.
I have lost my right to the pulpit,
and my calling as a pastor.
The church
and it's Ministers have rejected me.
[sobbing] And now,
all the people see in me is the devil.
Who do you see in you?
[Teddy sobbing]
Who do you see in you?
[Teddy continues sobbing]
[Teddy sniffles]
I see a man...
who has failed God and His calling.
[Teddy sobbing]
And I see a man
seeking for deliverance from God
and to restore his ways
in the sight of God and man.
[Teddy continues sobbing]
[Teddy] I have lost my right
to the Church's ministration,
but I lost a spiritual father in you.
And have I lost
the preacher of the gospel in you?
No.
[music continue playing]
[Teddy sniffles]
The car. The house.
I don't want them anymore.
They make me feel uncomfortable.
They do not belong to me.
They belong to the church.
I just want to start a new life.
Please.
[clicks tongue] My son.
Indeed you have broken my heart
because of the
passing of my beloved Anita.
And because you have had to
suffer so much
more than you can even bear.
The house.
The car.
I'm not taking it back from you.
Keep them.
And I have one thing to tell you.
God has not given up on you.
Do not give up on Him,
Teddy.
[Teddy crying]
[Teddy sighs]
[Teddy] In the beginning was His word and
the word was God and the word was love.
Today, ladies and gentlemen,
I come to you with the Word of God.
It won't take long before God comes out
and ask yourself
have you given yourself to Christ?
No, I don't take money for preaching.
You are the kings of kings.
- [gospel music playing]
- [Ruth and Teddy praying]
Oh, Mom.
[in Twi] You're here.
I heard you're sick,
so I'm here to see the doctor's report.
Mother why?
Why not?
Imagine what happened in church today.
You sacrificed yourself.
You used others.
What you said in church made people cry.
You're making money now,
at the cost of your life.
My son, this is out of hand.
[in English] Mom,
[in Twi] we need money.
[in English] We need money.
[in Twi] With your life?
[in English] You want
to use your life for money?
What if it actually happens?
You are using your mouth to
prophecy negative things about your life.
[scoffs]
Mom,
I will never fall sick.
God forbid.
Besides, I do my regular checks.
When you start building a foundation
like that, it becomes a part of you
and then you
grow up being an armed Christian.
No weapon that is fashioned against
you shall prosper. Someone say Amen.
[children] Amen.
[in Twi] Old lady, please...
[in English] It's high time you stayed out
of my marriage and the church's affair.
Todd and I are handling it.
"Todd and I are handling it."
[in Twi] My husband and I
labored to build that church.
You and Todd will not destroy it.
It won't happen.
I've been quiet for so long.
[in English] And I
will not be silent any more.
No, never, I will not.
[tense music playing]
[male Voice] Todd,
why are you down?
Todd.
Stand.
[Todd grunts]
You have the power.
- Stand, son. Stand.
- [whimpering]
[grunts]
Stand.
[Todd grunts]
[tense music playing]
Hey.
Todd, Todd
Todd, Todd
[tense music continus]
[machine beeping]
Doc, what happened?
Minutes ago he was fine.
He was perfect,
there was nothing wrong with him.
I'm so confused, Doctor.
Do you know what happened?
Madam, please come with me.
[Teddy] He is the king of kings.
[in Twi] He is the Alpha and Omega.
With all our sufferings
on earth, heaven is the goal.
I would like you to give your
lives to Jesus Christ and be saved.
Thank you. God bless you.
[woman3 in English] My son has
been lying here for one month.
Father, he is not talking,
he is not doing anything.
[in Twi] It hurts.
My Only child! Forgive him, Lord.
[in English] That wife of yours.
That woman Kwesi, that woman.
[children shouting]
- [children] Pastor Go!
- [indistinct chatters]
[children chanting] Fake pastor!
Fake pastor!
[Ruth] Teddy,
you need to stop this.
The people out there do not
want to see you. They are angry.
Anita's death is
still fresh on their minds.
The ordeal of yesterday
could have been worse.
What if someone had stabbed you?
What if someone had poured acid on you?
Teddy, please.
For my sake.
Please stop this, please.
You can pray to God at home.
You don't need to go out there.
Please.
The ordeal I went through yesterday
is still not a good enough punishment
for the sins I've committed against God.
I will never back down.
- I will continue with the work of God.
- To prove what?
You don't need to
prove anything to anybody.
I will never prove the strength
of my faith to any living man
I know God is still watching over me.
He sees through my heart.
At the break of dawn,
I'll wake up
and continue with my ministration.
[Ruth sighs]
Hello.
Good afternoon, Pastor.
May the Pastor peace
of the Lord be unto you.
Amen.
Pastor, please
I'm sick I believe you can heal me.
I'm sorry.
I do not heal nor perform miracles.
It's only Jesus who can.
Pastor, I know Jesus can
pass through you to heal me.
- Please help me.
- Not anymore.
I do not have the anointing
of the Lord upon me.
But I believe and know that
if you pray with a sincere heart,
God will
change your situation for the better.
Here.
Pastor, I used to watch
your programs on television.
And I know God's anointing is upon you.
Please help me.
[music playing]
Do you believe in Jesus
as your Lord and personal Savior?
I believe Jesus as my Lord
and my personal Saviour, Pastor.
Then I command you
in the mighty name of Jesus.
I can't believe it
that his grace is still upon me.
I don't know why.
[giggles]
That's because he
never gave up on his faith.
Amen.
You never gave up on me.
Even when I was
ostracized from the church.
You always sent me
messages to encourage me,
to motivate me.
You kept sending prayer points
for us to use for our daily prayers.
And I have you to thank.
My wife and I,
we are here today to say thank you.
Thank you,
for standing by us
during my difficult times.
Thanks be unto the Almighty.
In fact.
I've read a lot on social media.
I read about how God
has used you to heal a paralyzed man.
[Teddy] In the mighty name of Jesus,
rise up and walk.
Rise up and walk.
-[Bishop] Your humility and faith
-[Teddy] Rise up and walk.
- [Bishop] are second to none.
- In the mighty name of Jesus.
[Bishop] You were humble
enough to accept your mistakes.
Rise up and walk.
Oh I serve the living God
[Bishop] The devil
sought to destroy you,
to bring you down completely.
But my son, you refused to surrender.
And by the grace of God,
you have won the battle.
We will desire nothing more
than to be given
the opportunity to come back to church.
Oh, Pastor Teddy Hanson
and his beautiful, angelic Ruth,
you are welcome back to the fold of God.
[church cheering and clapping]
Today I shall talk about
two special people in the Bible.
Job and Joseph,
because their respective stories
share the same theme.
Job was a man who loved God
[piano playing]
and God loved Job.
And the devil was jealous.
You see,
God has a way of lifting his people
- from the bottom to the top.
- [church cheering and clapping]
[Lady G.O] Doctor, what's going on?
My husband is not getting better
and it's been months now.
[Doctor] We've actually done
everything medically possible,
but to no avail. That is
where we stand at this point.
So what are you saying?
I humbly suggest you guys fly
him to India for further treatment.
[Teddy] At the mention of your name
Every knee must bow
At the mention of your name
Every tongue must confess
Good afternoon Ma, Good afternoon.
Good afternoon.
- How are you?
- I'm fine.
[Ruth] How's Mr. Adjei?
I hope he's responding to treatment.
He passed.
[sad music playing]
This morning.
[Mr. Adjei] Forgive me.
See you alone
has lifted a very big guilt from my heart.
May the good Lord grant your heart desire.
Amen.
Hello, Adjoa.
Yeah.
We have to put all the
necessary documents together.
We have to fly him out tomorrow morning.
Yeah, bye.
Doctor, my husband is a reverend.
I am a reverend.
Be honest with me.
How much time?
Maybe weeks.
Days, hours, minutes.
Maybe even seconds.
I think you have to fly
him out as soon as possible.
Yes.
Reverend.
- Doctor, what's going on?
- [Doctor2 sighs]
I'm sorry.
He passed.
[birds chirping]
- Are you just getting here?
- I've been here all this while.
You just didn't see me.
Are you okay?
May his soul rest in perfect peace.
Why don't we go pray for him?
You think so?
Sure.
[tense music]
[dramatic music playing]
[Lady G.O] Doctor, be honest with me,
is he going to pull through?
[Doctor2] We only have to hope and pray.
[Lady G.O] So my husband's life is
now on let's hope and pray situation
[Doctor] With God,
all things are possible.
[Lady G.O] How much time?
How much time, Doctor?
[Doctor] Maybe weeks,
days,
hours.
Minutes. Maybe even seconds.
Is everything okay?
Well,
I think you have to fly
him out as soon as possible.
No, no, no, no.
We're not flying him out.
- Hello Ruth.
- Hey, how are you doing?
I hope Pastor Todd
is responding to treatment.
Yes, we're still at the hospital.
Ruth, I just had a revelation.
And I need you
to come to the hospital now.
Yes, they want to move my husband,
but if they do, he will die.
That's what I saw in the revelation.
I need you to come here now
so we can pray for him.
- Hello.
- Hello, Bishop.
[breathing heavily] Good afternoon.
Yes, I'm alright.
It's just that
I got a call from Pastor Todd's wife
and they confessed a whole lot to me.
I've been trying to call my husband,
but I can't get a hold of him.
And now they want me to pray for them.
- What do I do?
- Glory be to Jesus.
[Bishop] You can go
ahead and lay your hands on him.
But before you do that,
if he agrees to confess his sins
without any iota of
doubt he will be forgiven.
And be healed, go ahead and pray for him.
[Ruth] It is well.
I know you can feel your environment.
I know you can hear our voice.
We will pray for you.
But you would have to
ask God for forgiveness
and promise him that you
would not go back to your old ways.
That you would teach His word.
According to His holy book and truth,
I know God will forgive you and heal you.
And give you a second chance.
Because what God cannot do,
does not exist.
[Bishop] Let the blood of Jesus answer the
accusers and the critics of the Gospel.
Let the blood speak, cleansing, washing,
through the blood of Jesus
and give him another chance.
Another chance, another chance.
To correct the mistakes
and the errors of the past and do right
by you and by your people.
I pray in Jesus mighty name
that He will not be
high minded in ministry,
but he will have a sound
mind and the mind of Christ
clothed with humility
clothed with humility
of the Lord Jesus Christ,
I thank you Father, in Jesus name.
Amen.
[Todd] I've admired you for many years,
followed your ministry.
I've listened to all your messages
your success, your achievements.
I've tried half of my life to be like you.
Almost to the point of it
being like a competition.
I got away with many things.
I did many horrible things.
I have many skeletons in my closet.
But I come before you today,
broken in all humility.
Please.
I need you to pray for me.
I'm completely broken,
and nothing now.
Please Archbishop.
[Bishop] It is good you are here today.
I've been observing and
following your ministry over the years.
I've heard about your achievements.
And all that you are doing
a lot of young ministries and ministers
are taking shortcuts
and shortcuts will cut you short.
When I hear ministers say
that they want to be like me,
I don't want anybody to be like me.
I'm trying to be like Jesus.
And I expect everybody to be like Jesus.
I don't want anybody
to be a Duncan-Williams.
We all are called to run our path,
and I think it's a big deception
when people
want to be like me.
I mean, you can be inspired
and encouraged by my ministry,
but you don't have to be like me.
[paper rustling]
[Teddy clears throat]
I wasn't feeling well,
so I went
to the doctors to do a test because
I thought I had malaria or something.
And then, I
the test results came out and it says
I'm pregnant,
which I know is impossible because
I understand so I decided to go to
another hospital and do the tests again.
It also said I was pregnant.
[Teddy sobbing]
- It says I was pregnant.
- [somber gospel music playing]
It says I'm pregnant.
It says I'm pregnant.
- [somber gospel music continues]
- [Teddy crying for joy]
It says I was pregnant.
[Bishop] He that acquires wealth
through vanity,
Which means lawlessness.
Breaking the rules.
Doing it your own way.
Running the race
and ignoring the rules of the games.
Ignoring the rules of engagement.
Doing it on your own. Like Jesus said,
he said, when he comes,
many shall come and say, "Master or Lord,
we performed miracles in your name.
We did great things in your name.
We did mighty works in your name
we heal the sick in your name.
We cast out devils in your name."
And Jesus will say,
"You workers of iniquity,
I know you not. Get thee hence from me,
Workers of iniquity."
What is that iniquity?
What does that mean? Lawlessness.
That iniquity means lawlessness.
It means that
you did things on your own terms.
You didn't follow
the laid down procedures.
You didn't follow
divine protocol or the patterns of God.
You serve God on your
own terms, not on his terms.
You did what you wanted to do.
You allowed the provision
to take the place of the provider.
You allowed creation
to take the place of the Creator.
You allowed the blessing
to take the place of the blesser.
And you did your own thing.
And then many would say,
"But we cast out devils in your name."
And Jesus would say it doesn't matter.
Because my name is like a key.
-I can take your key right now
-[key jingling]
your car key and go to the
garage or go to the car park
and I can start your car
and the car will start.
The car will not tell me
that you don't own me,
you don't own me.
You are a thief,
the car will respond to the key.
I don't trust
any ministry, anyone who
haven't been tested and tried.
It is the things you survive
that determines your longevity.
A lot of people say to me,
Papa, what is the secret of your success?
And I tell them I am not yet successful
because true success is not
what you have but it is how you finish.
It's how you end the race.
People begin well and some don't end well.
[gospel music playing]
[Ruth laughing]
I can hear it.
-I think he just kicked... yes, yes listen
-[Teddy mutters indistinctly]
- [Teddy] I can hear it.
- [Ruth laughs]
[gospel music continues]
I believe The Taste of Sin
teaches all of us about consequences.
That whatever choices
or decisions we make in life,
they will always come
with consequences whether good or bad.
The Bible says, "Let him that thinketh
he stands take heed lets he falls".
It is not the falling
but It is how you respond to the falling.
Because if you look
at the movie carefully,
the pastor or the man of God
who fell bounced
back again, and it has to do with
cultivating the attitude and the capacity
to despise shame.
Jesus despised the shame.
And one
of the consequences of sin is shame.
It makes you run from God.
And that was what happened
when God came into the Garden of Eden.
He said, "Adam where are you?"
He said, "I was afraid
because I was naked and I hid myself."
And God said, "Who told you you are naked
because you've always been naked,
and my glory covered you."
And that is what sin does.
It makes you run away from God.
So I want to say to you, it doesn't
matter the temptation, the trial,
what you're dealing with, what you're
going through, don't run away from God.
Run to God and
look on to Jesus, the author
and the finisher
of your faith and He will fix you.
That is the God
you and I serve, don't give up on God
because God will never give up on you.
