A Year From Now (2021) Movie Script

[Sigh]
Hi.
It's so good to have you home.
I miss not having you here at Thanksgiving.
How was the drive?
Which way did you come?
I took 45 to 287.
Oh, I would have taken 175 to 69 it's a lot faster.
Oh all that matters is that she got here safe.
Yeah, well...
Oh, here she comes!
Here comes Emily!
Oh I'm so glad you're home.
You get prettier every time I see you.
How's Houston?
Houston's fine.
Well I'm glad to hear it.
I worry about you living down there.
I can take care of myself dad.
We know you can we just worry sometimes.
Hi Veronica.
Hi.
Okay now where is he?
He's right behind me.
Oh it's so nice to finally meet you.
Emily has told us so much about you.
Nothing bad I hope.
Oh of course not, she has nothing
but wonderful things to say about you.
What kind of gas mileage does that thing get?
Mom you're suffocating him.
Oh, I'm sorry.
Oh, here comes Max!
Oh, it's my baby boy.
Mom I'm 21.
Wendy, he'll always be my baby boy.
Veronica are you okay?
I'm fine, I don't need any help. Thank you.
Mom, why is there a treadmill in my old room?
I didn't have anywhere else to put it.
[Squeak]
Merry Christmas.
Veronica it's so good to see you.
You too.
I see Emily brought her boyfriend did you bring yours too?
I don't have one.
So are you seeing anybody?
I'm afraid not.
So Veronica when are you getting married?
Why hasn't some young man put a ring on that finger?
So why don't you go on that show.
You know the one where the guy gives the girls the roses.
So how did you two meet?
Well... both of our firms were working on a joint case
and Davis came into our office for a big meeting.
I was helping our lead attorney with a big presentation when...
When she caught my eye.
He started coming into my office to pick up papers and folders,
things we usually leave the interns to do.
Honestly I just wanted to see her.
Finally he came in and asked me out.
I just plead my case, threw myself to the mercy of her court and thankfully she accepted.
So how's school?
It's going great. I've applied for several scholarships,
my professor thinks I've got a real good shot
of getting at least one or two of them.
I'm very proud of you.
If I do get them I'm going to go ahead
and apply for that study abroad program in England.
So how did you two meet?
It was midterms, studying with a group of friends
and we just sort of ran into each other.
Are you studying to be a psychiatrist too?
Uh, no, uh, Wendy's a communications major
she's studying to be a public speaker.
So how's your job Veronica?
It's fine, you know same old same old.
Have they hired any new cute lawyers yet?
Uh, you know, there's a couple but I don't
really interact with them much.
Besides senior officers really look down on
workplace romances.
Oh, are you a lawyer as well?
No. Veronica is still a paralegal.
She hasn't passed the bar yet.
I do research, you know, I pull files,
stuff my boss might need.
That's great, I was a paralegal before I passed the bar.
It's really important work.
Yeah, you know, keeps you busy.
So are you seeing anybody outside of work?
No not really.
Well then, my friend Edna has a nephew who
lives in town and is just about your age.
Mom, I don't, I don't really want to be set
up with anybody okay.
The whole distance thing never really works out.
Oh, but you would really like this guy.
Do you do you remember the last guy you set me up with?
Sarah's grandson, the one going to Sam Houston.
Yeah, he goes to Sam Houston.
He goes to Sam Houston High School!
[Cough]
Sorry.
Edna gave me his phone number you should give him a call.
I'm not interested.
But you two would really hit it off.
Why are you doing this?
I just want you to be happy.
Ughhh!!!
Can y'all just drop it!
So... communications you say.
[Traffic]
So when did you get in?
Oh, I got in earlier this afternoon.
I wasn't planning on coming by until tomorrow,
but I really needed to get out of the house.
Say no more I understand.
So, uh, have you started writing your book?
My book? No not, not yet.
Why not?
We were snowed under at the firm and honestly
I don't think my boss would know what to do
if I wasn't putting the right papers in front of him.
I thought you didn't want to be a lawyer in the first place.
The law was always more Emily's thing you know,
but I wanted to prove I could do something
just as good as she could...
but... I realized it wasn't what I wanted to do.
Why work at a law firm then?
I didn't want to disappoint my parents.
I thought paralegal was a good compromise,
at least until I could support myself writing
but, I never seem to have the time now.
Well maybe this will help.
Boom.
Guys!
Merry Christmas Veronica.
I didn't think to bring y'all's presents
they're back at the house.
Nah, nah, it's fine. Go ahead, open it!
Okay.
We thought that if you had something to write
down your thoughts in that maybe it would
help you in writing your book.
I'm not gonna have the time.
Veronica, find time and make it happen.
Me and Tyler would still be bartending at
Joe's if we hadn't bought this place.
Y'all are still bartending.
Yeah, but now we own the bar!
Besides we've got big plans.
Really?
Voila.
Try it.
Oh it's good what brand is that.
Our own, well it will be eventually.
Tyler wants to open our own brewery.
It tastes really good.
Yeah but there's still room for improvements.
We are making it happen for us so you should do the same.
Well... how about I start by being y'all's first investor.
Sold!
[Laughter]
Wow!
One... share... of... brewery.
[Laughter]
Yes...there you go.
[Laughter]
Hey Zach come on in.
Who's that guy?
Zach Moore. Remember... high school?
No.
He's been working here part-time...
for the past few months.
Okay?
Oh... so we're actually having our first New
Year's Eve party since we bought the bar.
You should ask him out. I could, let him off early too.
No, no, don't do, don't do that.
A girl can ask a guy out.
I really don't want to do that.
Besides Debbie I really gotta get back home.
Oh! Jeez, sorry excuse me.
Excuse me.
Sorry don't you know who I am?
It's Veronica Novak, we went to high school together.
Sorry, not ringing any bells.
I was just telling Veronica about uh,
the New Year's Eve party we're having.
Yeah, it should be fun.
Uh yeah, why don't, I was wondering,
how about you refill my beer glass?
Uh... yeah, sure.
What it's not my fault that he's not interested.
Okay? He didn't even know who I was.
[Laugh]
You're such a pushover.
[Laugh]
I know... I know.
Trust me, a year from now things will be different.
[Bam!]
[Traffic]
[Wind]
[Squeaking]
[Trees Creaking]
[Leaves Blowing In Wind]
[Bells Jingle]
[Wind]
Wake up sleepyhead, it's Christmas morning.
Come on get up dad's making his Christmas pancakes.
[Groans]
[Sighs]
Oh look who decided to get up this morning
you want some coffee?
I don't drink coffee dad.
Who moved the tree?
The Christmas tree?
Yeah wasn't it behind the sofa last night?
Well that's where the supreme allied commander
of Christmas festivities usually puts it,
but I want to try something new this year.
What are you going on about?
The tree. Who moved the tree?
No one moved the tree.
Sounds like you stayed out too late last night.
What time did you get in last night?
Late but it was it was before midnight.
All I did was go to see Debbie.
Are they hosting another New Year's Eve party this year?
Another one?
Yes didn't they have one last year?
No this year's gonna be their first party.
Are you sure?
Yeah I'm positive they told me about it last night.
If you say so.
Did you already open presents?
No, not until we have my special Christmas pancakes first.
Where'd you get that apron?
You gave it to me last year.
That's impossible I got that for you this year.
Oh no did you get him another one by mistake?
Oh I did something like that years ago.
I was getting a gift from my friend Edna but
I forgot she gave me the same thing the year before.
Remember that Ronald? Now who wants pancakes?
This Christmas I believe that I have made
possibly the best pancakes I've ever made.
Pass the syrup, please.
There's plenty more pancakes coming up.
Can you pass the butter?
Mmmm, mmmm, pancakes.
Dad, how many pancakes are you making? Are you making enough?
Thanks Mom.
[Sizzle]
Hey Ronald, we're gonna need some more pancakes!
[Doorbell]
Oh, that must be Davis.
Merry Christmas.
Veronica come help us with all these presents.
Merry Christmas, Mrs. Novak.
Oh, Emily I'm so happy for you.
Davis is such a wonderful guy.
Do you want any pancakes?
I can get Ronald to whip you up some.
No, no, no, no. I'm alright.
Oh no I insist.
Ronald will be more than happy to make you some.
Are you okay?
You've been kind of spacing out.
I'm fine I just um, I'm just kind of tired this morning.
Okay first things first your Mom's present.
I was wondering where you hid it this year
I was looking everywhere for it.
And here's one for Emily from mom and dad.
And Max from Emily.
And this one's for Amelia?
Who's Amelia?
Amelia is my girlfriend.
The communications major?
Eww, no that's my ex. We broke up months ago.
Sorry I didn't know.
When does Amelia get here?
She's on her way.
And this one's for Veronica from Mom and Dad.
Ronald come sit down you're getting tired.
Okay yeah I can't bend over like I used to.
Ronnie will you uh hand out the rest of the presents for me.
Veronica.
Huh?
Could you hand out the rest of the presents for your father?
Oh yeah, um, yeah this is for Max from me.
So what'd you get me?
Honestly I have no idea.
[Paper crinkling]
Well thank you Veronica this will go nice
alongside the cat you got me last year.
Yeah thats why I got it.
All right that's the last of the presents.
Well actually... there's one more that I just found.
Emily Novak will you marry me?
Yes, of course yes!
Oh my gosh this is the best Christmas ever.
Oh Emily I'm so happy for you two.
Ronald do you remember when you proposed to me?
Are you all right?
Veronica, are you all right? You've been spacing out again.
It's just... they've only been dating a few months.
Don't you think it's a little fast?
They've been dating for over a year now.
Yeah, yeah it's just um, only seems like just yesterday I met him.
Veronica come take our picture.
Yay okay.
Thanks. I'm gonna post this right now.
This is gonna get so many likes.
[Bam]
[Knocking]
Are you all right?
You've been acting weird all morning.
Um yeah I'm fine I just, I just need some fresh air.
Excuse me?
Go buy your own newspaper.
[Phone buzz]
Oh hey girl Merry Christmas.
Merry Christmas.
Wow I haven't seen you since uh, last year, yeah.
Right.
Why the long face? You look kind of out of it.
It's just been a strange day you know.
I just really need to get away from my family.
Ah, I mean, that's why we're open.
Oh speaking of family I heard that your sister got engaged.
Yeah that's one of the reasons I needed to get away.
I mean I just met this guy yesterday
and now all sudden he's gonna be my brother-in-law.
Yesterday? I thought you met him last year.
Yeah yeah I did, it's just that it seems so fast.
A year is longer than me and Tyler waited.
I mean as soon as we graduated senior year
we already knew that we were meant to be together.
Yeah but see that's the thing you knew what
you wanted I don't know what I want.
Well I know what you don't want and that is
working at the bottom of a law firm.
Maybe.
Oh how's your book coming along? I'm so excited to read it.
My book?
Uh, huh.
Let me guess you haven't started, have you?
I don't know what to say.
You said that things would be different.
Come on life is passing you by!
No it isn't!
Let me make you a drink.
Yeah. Let me just, I'm going to go to the bathroom first. Okay?
Okay.
Oh! Oh, wait why are you in the ladies room?
I was fixing a leaky toilet.
Right it's fine I don't have to go anyway.
Well it's working now if you need to go.
No besides that's fine I really need to go.
I mean I need to need to leave bye.
Veronica where are you going?
Ahhhhhh!
Oh my god, oh my god!
My nose!
I'm sorry oh my god, oh my god, oh my god!
Look I didn't mean to startle you.
I didn't mean to punch you.
I just I didn't expect you to be here.
What? I'm married to your sister!
I'll go get ice.
Who move the tree?
The Christmas tree? No one
Mom it was by the fireplace last night I saw it when I came in.
That was last year I wanted to try another spot again this year.
What day is it?
December 26th.
What year?
My god it happened again, it happened again
this isn't a dream, this is a nightmare.
Are you all right?
What's going on?
Your sister can't remember what day or year it is.
Oh really, what she do? Drink too much eggnog last night.
No! All I need is my morning coffee.
Hey, but you don't drink coffee!
Not this year.
Ah, oh, that's hot!
Hey, where's the ice?
[Slurp]
[Slurp]
[Slurp]
So Emily now that you've made partner at your
law firm do you get a bigger office?
I do. I forgot to tell you about it.
It's a beautiful corner office with a terrific view of downtown.
Well that's wonderful.
I also get a lot of bonus perks, my own parking
space, a bigger expense account
and use of the firm's private box at the Texan stadium.
Oh can you bring guests?
I can.
So no more sitting in the nose bleed section?
All right gang it's time for us to get ready to go.
When's your girlfriend coming.
She's on her way.
If she's not here by noon she has to meet us at the mall.
She's gonna pick me up, we're gonna look for
backpacks at the sporting goods store.
Why do you need a backpack?
For my trip to England.
You're going to England?
For my study abroad program. That was my big
news whenever I came home I told you all that.
Yeah that's right.
Are you okay? You've been acting weird all morning?
You do look like a deer in the headlights.
Maybe it's the crimbo limbo.
Crimbo limbo is that like mono?
No no crimbo limbo is after Christmas but before New Year's
when everything gets hazy and you start forgetting your days.
No it's not the days it's the years.
You know they seem to be going by so fast.
Welcome to our world.
Speaking of fast, it's time to get going.
Davis will you start the car?
Dad!
No it's okay I'd be happy to.
Think fast!
Got 'em
I'm nuts. I'm going insane. Thats the only explanation.
We thought you might be hungry.
Thanks.
If you want to we're gonna head on down the
mall and go to the movies.
No I think I just want to stay here by myself for a minute.
Suit yourself.
Veronica! We wanted to introduce you to somebody.
It's my friend Edna's nephew the one I was telling you about last year
and here he is now.
Zach?
Do you already know each other?
Zach and I went to high school together.
Well that's great.
Why don't you sit down and join her?
We'll let you two catch up.
I'll call you when we're ready to leave.
[Coughing]
Oh my god I'm so sorry.
You have some cheese on your mouth.
Listen. this is, this is a really bad time Zach.
I was on my way to K.D.Nickel when your parents ambushed me.
Are they hiding over there?
Look I gotta go.
Listen, listen, can I tag along with you?
Maybe it'll get them both off our backs.
Yeah, okay sure.
Well I think we lost your parents.
Oh.
I guess I'll see you later.
Bye.
So Veronica Mom was telling me about Zach,
sounds like you two hit it off.
I don't want to talk about it.
Okay.
What happened?
Nothing happened, he's just got interested.
Not interested?
That's not how it looked to your dad and I.
Well it's true. He already has a girlfriend.
Are you sure?
Yeah I'm sure. I saw her.
Well this morning you didn't know what year
it was and you punched Davis in the face, so.
Well I saw her she was there I'm not crazy.
Nobody said you were crazy.
You don't have to.
[Baby cry]
[Baby cry]
You're okay. It's all right. Shhhhhh.
Oh I'm sorry I didn't mean for the baby to
wake you up. Are you okay?
I'm fine I just, I didn't get a whole lot of sleep last night.
Yeah the baby was up all night crying.
I couldn't get her to settle down.
That's okay.
Do you want to hold her?
Who me?
Come on you're the only one that hasn't held her yet.
Mind the head.
Hey I've got the... that works too.
She likes you.
Yeah she does doesn't she.
Abigail loves her Aunt Veronica.
Abigail.
[Coughing]
So who got Abigail to quit crying?
Aunt Veronica did.
Wow. Way to go Ronnie.
[Baby cries]
Oh, no, no, I'll take her.
She's got a conference call with her firm.
[Baby cries]
Oh hey Veronica would you mind going to the
store for some more formula.
Yeah I can do that.
Thank you.
[Baby Cries]
Hey does anyone need anything from the grocery store?
Yeah I'll go with you.
[Engine starts]
You're listening to KRNK 100.7 be sure to
tune in on New Year's Eve as we say goodbye to 2015 and ring...
[Click]
We need to talk about Dad. I'm sure that you've
noticed that chemotherapy's taken a toll on him.
Emily and I were talking and we were wondering
if you would be willing to move back home and help them out.
What do you mean?
I mean... cooking and cleaning uh, driving them
to and from the doctor, shopping,
running the errands, that sort of thing.
Why me? Can't you take a semester off?
I would but I'm going back to England this
January for the semester. I can't change that.
I didn't know.
And Emily and Davis can't do it because they have the new baby.
We just thought that you'd be willing to come back home, for the family.
Davis and Emily are willing to pay you for the hours that you miss.
They just, they would just rather it be family than...
What are you reading?
My diary.
Oh, you're not going through that whole amnesia
thing again are you?
No I'm fine.
I know this whole thing with Dad's illness
is affecting everyone and if you need to talk...
I'm fine.
Okay. Just, just think about it. We'll talk
more when we get back.
So are you going to do it?
I mean yeah, they're my parents and they need me.
Yeah, well just as long as you remember to
take some time for yourself.
I mean I don't know what I'm gonna do I basically
have to put my entire life on hold.
You could start writing your book, work from home, huh.
Yeah... you know I could. Gosh I've just been so overwhelmed
these past few days, years, that it never crossed my mind.
Well there you go. You're going to be at home
so now's the perfect time to do it.
Yeah. This time next year I'm going to have a book.
That's the spirit.
Actually these are the spirits.
To the new year.
To the new year.
Oh my god.
Hey Emily where is everybody?
Oh Mom's outside with Abigail.
Oh.
She got so big.
You know it seems like just yesterday she was a little baby.
Yeah.
How's your book coming along?
You know it's, um, it's coming together a lot faster than I thought it would.
Well that's good because dad... dad can't wait to read it.
Ronnie is that you? Come in, I want to see you.
Is that your book?
It is.
Would you read it to me.
It's just a rough draft.
That's okay I want to hear what you have so far.
I miss him so much.
I can't believe he's been gone for six months already.
The house just isn't the same without all his decorations up.
He used to make the house look so wonderful.
Now it just looks empty.
I'm really glad you were able to convince
Mom to put the tree and the stockings up for Abigail.
I know how much Christmas reminds her of Dad.
Yeah.
I'm gonna be leaving later today.
I have a doctor's appointment and with the due date fast approaching I can't reschedule it.
Excuse me.
I wish you weren't leaving so soon.
I know Mom. We wish we could stay through
New Year's but tomorrow is the only day we can get in to see the obstetrician.
I'm lucky she didn't take the rest of the year off.
I know I just hate to see you go.
Now give grandma a great big hug before you leave.
You too come here. You're my favorite son-in-law.
Oh... yeah it's easy when you're the only one.
About what I said yesterday I really think
you should go back to school get your law degree.
Okay.
You know just in case the writing thing doesn't work out.
Just think about it.
Alright gang it's time to go.
Bye, love you.
Drive safe.
I'm so glad you guys are staying through New Year's.
My girlfriend wasn't too happy about it though,
she wanted me to spend New Year's Eve with her.
Well you didn't tell me that.
That's all right she ain't my girlfriend anymore.
Can you go ahead and take down the tree and stockings?
Yeah sure thing mom.
Hey, um, mom its Veronica can I come in?
Of course come in.
What is it?
It's something for you from Dad.
Where did you find this?
Back in the storage room, up on the shelf
where we keep the ornaments.
Your dad had to keep putting my presents in
harder and harder to reach places.
One year he hide my gift in the tank of the
downstairs toilet.
That's so gross.
He wrapped it in plastic and taped it to the
inside of the lid.
It was a smart place to hide it until the
toilet handle broke.
I kept hounding on him to fix it and he kept
saying he would get to it later.
Finally I had had enough and decided to fix it myself.
I pulled off the lid and looked down and there
was a Christmas present floating in the tank.
What was it?
Oh, it was this watch and I told him this was
my reward for fixing the toilet.
He turned redder than a tomato.
Why don't we see what this one is.
It's one last gift from dad.
[Doorbell]
Veronica Novak?
Yes.
I have a package here for you.
What is that?
I'm not sure.
It's my book.
First edition!
My book came in today the cover's nice,
the photo on the back is real nice too.
I wish you were here to see it.
I just wish you were here.
It just doesn't seem real.
I don't even know what real is anymore.
One day everything's normal and then the next it's not.
You're the only one I can really talk to about any of this.
I keep trying to take it day by day but the
years keep going by faster and faster.
I guess all I can do is make the most of the
time I've got left.
Wake up, Aunt Ronnie. Wake up!
Oh, I'm gonna get you. I'm gonna get you.
Hey come here.
Come get me.
I'm gonna get ya.
No, no, no, no, no...
Come on!
Ahhh, I got you and now I'm going to kiss you!
[Laughter]
Stop you're tickling me!
All right all right that's enough.
Now go play but don't wake up Maddie she's still sleeping.
Okay mama.
What was that for?
It's just, you know, it's nice seeing all
the decorations back up.
It feels like he's still here when we put
them all up.
I love you Mom.
I love you too Ronnie.
Hey good morning.
Good morning.
You want some pancakes.
It's dad's recipe.
Yeah, yeah I would.
Oh, hey we're thinking about going to the
movies later if you want to join us.
Sure sounds like fun.
Nice.
[Car horn]
Who's car is that? You're going to wake the baby.
[Baby cries]
You woke the baby.
Sorry. My bad.
Hey look at you. I'm so glad you could make it.
Uh, Deb is around here somewhere.
In the meantime what can I get you?
Well you gotta give me your family's recipe.
Absolutely. You know I've made a number of
refinements over the years.
Yeah?
Yeah.
Ooh, how you liking Tyler's beer?
Perfect.
Uh-huh. I think it's one of the best ideas
he's ever had, besides marrying me.
I don't know, the beer is really good.
Why don't you go wait some tables?
Yes ma'am.
Hey... thank you so much.
If we didn't have you as an investor then we
would have never gotten this place off the ground.
Deb if you hadn't kept encouraging me to write
then I wouldn t have been able to help.
Seriously we couldn't thank you enough.
I owe you.
You don't owe me a thing.
That's what friends are for.
What?
Nothing.
So are you getting back out there?
Oh, I hadn't even thought about it.
I've had other things on my mind you know.
Yeah of course, but let me tell you about
Zach, his wife left him.
Didn't even know he was married.
Yeah to that girl from a few years back.
Apparently she just up and left him one day for another man.
Sorry to hear that.
He's free now if you're interested.
Excuse me?
I'm just saying.
Don't go trying to set us up again, okay.
Do you remember when my parents tried that? It didn't work.
I thought you could use a refill.
You didn't have to bring me another
It's no problem. I wanted to talk to you anyway.
My personal life's wide open right now.
I was wondering if you would be interested in
maybe getting dinner or a movie sometime.
You don't have to decide now.
Just think about it.
Yeah, okay.
See girl I told you, he wants you.
Yeah I don't know he just never really seemed interested.
He didn't even remember me from high school.
Well, he knows who you are now.
Yeah, now he knows.
Good morning.
Ahhhhhhhh!!!
Zach why are you here? What do you mean? I live here.
Are you all right?
I'm fine, it's just a nightmare, that's all, just a nightmare.
Well it's all over now.
Well I'm gonna go take a shower so uh,
why don't you go make me something to eat.
Ahhh!
[TV set]
Mom, mom wake up. Mom, where is everybody?
Who?
Max, Emily, Davis, the kids. Where'd they go?
They went home the day after Christmas.
Right, yeah, yeah, I remember, I'm sorry.
Go back to sleep, okay. Sorry.
[TV set]
[Singing, poorly]
Hi
I have a delivery for Debbie Jones.
That's me.
Uh, sign here please.
Thank you.
Thank you again.
Excuse me aren't you Veronica Novak, the author?
Yeah that's me.
I knew it was you. I'm such a huge fan.
I actually have one of your books in my truck.
Would you mind signing it for me.
Oh sure.
Thank you.
So who should I make it out to?
Wendy, Wendy Sanchez.
Here you go.
Thank you.
Thanks again.
Yeah, you look familiar, have we met before?
Actually we have. It was before you were famous,
about seven years ago.
I dated your brother, he brought me home for Christmas Eve
but then we broke up a few weeks later.
Um, sorry about that.
Max can be really indecisive about what he wants.
Well thanks to your book now I know exactly what I want.
I'm going to be an author just like you.
Oh thanks I'm flattered.
Well it was really nice meeting you.
Yeah.
Bye.
I bet you don't get used to that.
It's a weird feeling.
But still it's nice hearing it from the fans.
Oh yeah, it's real nice.
I'm so happy for you. You have it all, a life, success, love.
It's everything I ever wanted.
Hey babe. You want to give me another beer?
Yeah I think you had enough.
Oh come on babe. It's New Year's Eve!
No. I said no.
Come on babe. It's not like you don't have the money.
This bar is basically yours anyway.
Come on its New Year's Eve.
Here, give him this.
[Burp]
Thanks babe. Love you.
Hey are you okay? You look really down.
Why did I get married?
Excuse me?
Why did I get married?
Where is this coming from?
You tell me why did I get married?
Because it's something you wanted.
No... it's not
I don't understand.
It's what everybody else wanted.
Yeah I know that marriage is this thing that we're all
supposed to do, but not me, not yet.
It's like there's all these milestones in life
that you have to reach by a certain age
and if you don't then everyone thinks
that there's something wrong with you.
I thought that you and Zach were doing great.
Deb, I made a huge mistake.
I didn't know. I'm sorry if I pushed you to
do something that you didn't want to do.
I just... I just wanted you to be happy.
I was already happy.
I was happy with my career and my life and...
I guess I just convinced myself that I
needed something I wasn't ready for.
I was okay with the way things were.
I get to decide my own happiness.
Hand me that pitcher.
Not that one the other one.
Oh hey babe. I was just talking to my ex,
you remember her don't you?
Yeah I do. Happy New Year.
Hey everybody it's all most midnight!
[Countdown]
Tomorrow things WILL be different.
Three!
Two!
One!
Happy New Year!
I'm back.
[Pots and pans]
Merry Christmas.
Merry Christmas Ronnie.
I love you Dad.
I love you Ronnie.
[Cough]
Oh, yeah we gotta get that cough checked out right away.
No there's nothing to worry about I'm fine.
No, no, no, we're going.
Even if I have to drive you myself.
That's an order.
Yes ma'am.
You want some Christmas pancakes?
Mom! Merry Christmas mom.
Merry Christmas Ronnie.
I love you.
I love you too.
Dad hid your present under the treadmill.
Max!
I really like your girlfriend.
Wendy?
Yeah, I say she's a keeper.
Oh Emily!
Emily I'm really sorry about yesterday and my outburst at the party
and I'm really happy for you and Davis.
Thanks.
Are you okay?
Never better.
Okay.
[Doorbell]
Hey Merry Christmas.
Hey, Merry Christmas. Uh, where's Emily?
She's in the kitchen.
Hey, when are you going to pop the question?
[Laughter]
[Leaves blowing in the wind]
[Bells jingle]
Veronica! You better come in here quick they'll all be gone.
