All Access to Rossa 25 Shining Years (2024) Movie Script
My name is Sri Rossa Roslaina Handiyani.
I came to Jakarta to study
at the University of Indonesia in 1996.
In the same year, I released my first
teen album Nada-nada Cinta.
It wasn't an easy journey for me.
My albums as a child were a flop.
There was a long hiatus
before releasing a new album.
And I was rejected by
many record companies.
However,
faith and determination from
the people who loved me brought
me to where I am today.
Why is it called "Shining"?
And what are you going to
bring to your fans who miss you.
It's only ten days away.
No, don't do that!
You're making me nervous.
I think this is the most glamorous
and the biggest concert
that Rossa has ever done.
It's a big concert and when
you include vendors and performers,
you can say 600 people
are involved in this event.
Tell me how hectic
your life is behind the scenes?
I can see how hectic it is tonight.
But I can't imagine how
hectic it could become in other cities.
I don't know what
happened to her, how she felt.
I'm not gonna lie,
I feel different about this concert.
It's so unreal
how this is gonna be my first concert.
In real life since the pandemic.
Even last night...
No, even this morning when
I woke up, I still felt so nervous.
Only after I had
my dresses fitted at Didi's...
For this 25th anniversary concert,
I got the inspiration from a dress
worn by an actress in the 1940s.
I saw a movie called Secret Police.
No!
Otherwise,
you make it off shoulder on one side.
In my opinion, she's a simple person.
She doesn't make it hard for me
to show off her real self.
Let me ask you something.
Can you show your chest once?
Can you show it? Or don't want?
Are you...
Are you trying to kill me?
- I wanna see it.
- No, you can't.
Can you make it more fitted
with an adjustable string inside it?
Sure, I can do that.
It will help me get it,
tighten it up to fit her body.
I don't want it to look loose.
Sure, I can slim down the waistline.
- My stylist lives in Hong Kong.
- Cover all...
Monica is also at home,
she doesn't feel well today.
I can communicate with them
by looking at the monitor.
I just want you to do your best.
Yeah! I can do it!
The story of my career started in 1996,
when I released
the song "Nada-nada Cinta."
The song was written
by Younky and Maryati.
From that album, "Nada-nada Cinta"
was the last song we recorded.
Because it's not easy to pick your hit...
I mean, the best song.
Like, which song will be liked?
It's a simple song.
It talks about love and I saw
her as a cheerful and sweet girl.
She had just entered adolescence.
I thought her heart should be filled
with love that's translated into notes,
to bring her happiness.
That's what inspired me
to write "Nada-nada Cinta."
When she was still young and singing,
I could see she had
the charisma to be a star.
She can breathe life into the song.
Becoming a good singer
and being someone who can sing well
are two different things.
In my opinion, Rossa is a good singer,
not just a person who can sing well.
That's the key.
We like watching movies.
In one movie the character
was a woman who was beautiful,
smart and so brave.
Her name is Rossa.
Then my husband said
we should name our daughter Rossa
so she can be smart, brave and kind too.
So that's when people
started to notice Rossa,
a new singer just born into
Indonesia's music industry.
I like the outfit I wore in this pic.
God, I was still
in high school in that photo.
Can I have the photo?
Where did you get it?
There were times
when I could only sing on Fridays,
Saturdays and Sundays.
Or even just on Saturdays and Sundays.
Because at that time,
I wanted to focus on my education
while selecting the best song.
I said to Mr. Andi,
"I'm not thinking about profit."
I just want to make her dream come true.
Because I knew in my heart she was a
hidden gem but I couldn't make her famous.
I finally made it with the song "Tegar."
The song was originally written
by Melly Goeslow for another singer.
However it didn't fit her character.
But I thought that it was a good song.
So I offered it to Mr. Adi
to be sang by Rossa.
It's so easy to talk to her.
We talked about everything
including boyfriends.
So most of her songs were, in a way, true
stories I captured from our conversations.
When I gave her the song
she screamed, "That's my story!"
I want to tell you
the story behind the "Tegar" video.
Just before we started
filming the video, I fell ill.
So fun fact about me, I always fell ill
during school transitions.
Graduating from Middle School
to High School, I had typhoid fever.
From High School to University,
I fell ill again.
Then right before we started
filming "Tegar," I fell ill again.
Every time I fell ill, I thought...
"In the name of God, I hope
this means I've passed to the next level."
I can't help but think that way.
We started filming at 5:30 a.m.
I went straight from
the ER to the filming location.
I remember it was on a footbridge.
The most memorable scene was where I sang
in front of a big clock on a building.
I remember sitting on
the rooftop of the building.
I remember she was so fragile.
Physically and mentally.
Whenever she heard bad news
about the people she loved
be it about her boyfriend
or bad news in general,
it would make her pass out
and caused her GERD to act up
and caused her to pass out again.
That's how I remember her.
I never thought the song
would become that big of a hit that year.
Finding a perfect song
is like finding your destiny.
If you're destined for it,
you will get it.
That's how I feel about "Tegar."
Thank you.
Thank you so much for everything.
I'm Narya Abhimata.
I'm the director for the video trailer of
Rossa's 25 Years Shining Concert.
Rossa loves joking.
In Sundanese it's called "bodor."
I'm just copying you, "Hello, hello..."
I've been working with Rossa since 1998.
It was during an event in Makassar.
We invited her for a meeting,
and she came with her mother.
I was a bit late and she arrived first.
"Where are you? We're here," she said.
And I thought she was spicy.
You would think she had a smooth career,
but in reality she has
put in a lot of work to it.
Her determination,
her motivation, it's admirable.
Sometimes, I got tired.
And she just kept going.
I handle everything
including the catering.
Don't do it. We can handle it for you.
- I mean...
- Is it because you're picky?
Exactly!
There's no new final decision.
It was decided yesterday after
everything had been approved...
She needs to be in control of everything,
even insignificant stuff.
For example, the crew t-shirts.
She made them change
the design three or five times. Why?
The print is too big,
too small, too low, too high.
She has to have
the final say on everything.
She has attention to detail.
That's just the way she is.
She's a perfectionist.
Can you try it first?
She would yell on the phone,
when I knew she wasn't angry at all.
I answered the phone and she yelled,
"Are you free to talk, Dek?"
I said,
"Can you tone it down a bit, ma'am?"
Since it's gonna be used
as the opening act,
we need to make the video a bit dramatic.
By only showing her silhouette,
it makes her a bit mysterious.
The VT also tells her career journey
as one of the divas
in Indonesia who's still on top.
The music industry is dynamic.
We have to evolve in sync with the era
and that's what she always wants.
Always keen to try new ideas.
Comparing her first concert
with this year's concert,
they're totally different.
Each concert has
different energy and a different target.
It is also applied to this concert.
I think this is one of the most glamorous
and the biggest concert she has ever done.
I had a dream to do a concert for Rossa.
I kept trying to convince her
to do a concert.
When we were on a plane to Surabaya,
I guess, I said to her...
"Bubu, you have to do a concert."
"You have released plenty
of songs and enough albums."
Then she said to me,
"You're right. Okay, I'll do it."
Knowing that she changes her mind a lot,
once we landed I called everybody.
"Bu, you can't change your mind on this.
I've already called Erwin, James..."
There was nothing she could do.
After the concert in Jakarta,
she said to me.
I made her fall in love with the concert.
She has no problem performing anywhere.
From high school,
to government, ceremonial events.
She has performed in front of the Prime
Minister of Malaysia and Brunei's VIPs.
Rossa is very popular in Malaysia.
She's a big star there.
Until one day she did a concert
sponsored by the Malaysian government.
Over 12,000 people came to see her
performance at the Bukit Jalil Stadium.
From that point on she was crowned
as one of Southeast Asia's Divas.
Sorry, Diva.
It's okay, 'cause I'm a diva.
It's okay, my people.
There's a venue called Istana Budaya.
That venue was originally built
for the native people of Malaysia.
Meaning, it's a place
to promote local culture.
And Rossa was the first Indonesian female
singer to do a concert in that building.
Rossa is so loved by her fans in Malaysia
it became clear to them
that she doesn't just belong to Indonesia,
she also belongs to Malaysia.
So one day she was given a "Datuk" title
and later upgraded to "Datuk Sri."
NIGHT OF THE MAGIC OF LOVE
I can use a little timpani in that part...
That's right.
Is that okay?
Do I need to repeat that part?
Yeah...
Now, the drum.
Can we build up from here?
This is my second rehearsal.
Today we changed all the arrangements
from my music director.
So there will be few
music directors for this concert.
Dendi and I have been
working together for at least 18 years.
He knew me from when I was how old?
I think it was around 2000...
- It was from 2004.
- From 2004, right?
If you like her song, you can
give credit to her good sense of music.
For example the song "Ku Menunggu."
The producer initially
refused to record the song arguing
it didn't fit her character.
She said, "No, this is my song. I can
sing this song and I will make it a hit."
And she proved them she's right.
She knew the song was hers
and with good production,
she created a good result.
Can we do a little improvisation?
Wait...
Like that? Give a higher pitch at the end.
Let me hear it.
I want to upgrade the tempo,
but we don't have a metronome here.
What the heck?
Do we have power outage?
Power outage again...
Name one song
that reflects her life the most?
All songs she created with
the songwriters tell us a bit of her life.
So I think all
of her songs are about her life.
I love to make changes
in the arrangement or let's say
I destroy my music directors' arrangement.
When you ask who
Rossa's music director is? There she is.
No, I'm not.
Great.
There were times when she fell ill
and needed to be given IV fluids
while her makeup artist did her makeup.
Then when it was time for
her to sing, they pulled out the IV
and put it back in after she sang.
That's not a one-time incident.
It shows her determination.
When we were in Bajo...
We performed in Bajo
before this event, right?
Yeah.
Then I got sick...
I mean I passed out from exhaustion.
We were talking about her last fainting
incident, which was almost 8 years ago.
"I know, thank God."
Then all of a sudden
her GERD starts to act up.
When she was on the stage, no one knew
she was very sick at that time.
She kept touching her belly
like she was about to give birth.
It was that painful, I think.
It was like a mental breakdown.
I'm so embarrassed.
But once she got on the stage I watched
her and I wondered if she was okay?
She was dancing around,
encouraging the audience
to sing and dance along with her.
I thought she was already better.
But actually, she was still sick.
It was just her being professional.
She wants the event to go smoothly.
She doesn't want to know any problem.
She doesn't want to disappoint anybody.
There were many times in the restaurant
where I couldn't stop crying.
- I don't know if you noticed or not.
- Of course we did.
I hate it.
Tell us what was
on your mind at that time?
This is the first day
where I can fully focus on work.
I was a mess a few days ago.
Something happened
that I did not want to share with anybody.
I thought I'd better keep it to myself.
My best friend... I mean...
It's Rizky.
He never asked what happened.
Well, he did,
but he didn't push for answer.
He was okay
if I didn't want to tell him. As long as
you'll be okay.
Only Rizky knows everything about me.
His accent gave him away.
Stop teasing me.
A father's love is as deep as the sea.
A mother's love is as big as the ocean.
When I was a little girl...
Can I share a little story with you?
Yes!
A little story
from when I was a little girl.
My mom always sang me a song
before I went to sleep.
Sweetie...
They're going to make
a documentary film about me.
I was in 3rd grade or 4th grade when
I realized who she really was.
And what she did for a living.
I think the first time
she opened up to me...
Yup, one, two, three...
- I like it.
- Yay!
Ending it with
the guitar sound will be perfect.
Yeah.
Hey, sweetie.
Rizky is so close with his mother.
We nicknamed her "Bubu."
When she fell ill, he went...
He sometimes got mad at us.
We didn't know anything.
"My mom is sick. Do something!"
But I think there's
a similarity between Rossa and Rizky.
When they want something,
they want it right there and then.
Or just buy it online.
Just like his mother. Exactly the same.
They'd ask you every minute.
"Where are you now?"
My mom and I are alike.
Yeah. You got her stubbornness too.
And if it's soft?
Then it's not hard.
You'll dent the glass.
Thank you, Mom.
You've always been there for me.
You always helped my study,
even when you were not feeling well.
Mom, you're the best thing for me.
You're my angel.
Even when you're out of town,
you're still in my heart.
Thank you.
She sometimes got sad,
but she didn't show it.
She's a strong woman.
I knew it when she had a lot
of problems but she had to go to work.
She would act happy
in front of the camera and her fans.
But inside her room, she looked
so tired and sometimes she cried.
But once she got on the stage
or met her clients she would act happy.
At home when I saw her look sad
or down sometimes...
I'd just enter her room
and give some advice.
With Rizky they're like lovers.
They're so close.
Before she leaves home,
she always knocks on
his bedroom door and says,
"Bye,
honey."
"Be good."
When she didn't have time to say goodbye,
once she got home that night
even when he was already asleep, she'd
wake him up and ask him about his day.
She always makes time for him.
Rizky is her life.
Every time the topic is about her son,
her demeanor becomes more solemn.
As a Libra, I tend
to overthink everything.
I'm so emotional.
I could be super happy one day
and become super sad later.
There's no middle ground for me.
I'm crying...
Rossa here, problems gone...
Problems here, Rossa gone...
She's very good with planning.
She'll do anything to make sure
the project goes smoothly.
She's keen on details and
she hires perfect people for their jobs.
Almost all of
her concerts were successful.
Is it there? I forgot.
Okay, everybody, listen up.
Before we start this rehearsal,
let's take a moment of silence to pray.
Let's especially pray for Rossa's health,
physically and mentally.
And for us to do a good job.
Praying begins.
Let's start.
Her signature skill is
to breathe life into her songs.
She can sing
the lyrics with all her heart.
And make it her own.
And I guess that's a skill
not owned by many singers.
This concert is to celebrate 25 years
of Rossa's singing career. As an artist.
We're mixing and matching new arrangements
with the original version.
Just like 25 years of her journey.
How about we try singing it once?
Rossa said she hasn't
memorized the lyrics either.
You're right.
Everyone stand by.
There are many singers
who can produce hit songs.
But not many can maintain
their career as long as Rossa.
Yeah, I was just...
- It's my part.
- No, this is your part.
No, this is my part.
No, it's mine.
This part is taken from Noah's song,
and we changed the lyrics a bit.
She's not only a good singer
but she knows how to
stay relevant in the industry.
To me, she hasn't changed at all.
She can sing sincerely from the heart.
She doesn't have any problem
with her singing technique.
She's one of few singers
who could produce a song in
only a short period of recording.
In my opinion, a singer...
It will touch the hearts of
people who listen to the song.
That's the reason she has had
a long 25-year career in music.
Andi Rianto, Magenta Orchestra.
And her attitude.
She always...
Respects and is appreciative
to the people who work with her.
That work ethics spreads to her team too.
Young people today
rely on electronic sound.
Rossa is a visionary.
She can predict a trend
and even creates new ones.
Songs she helps arrange and ideas
she has sometimes are ahead of trends.
When she hears a new trend,
she says, "I did it first."
She has deep musical knowledge,
so our conversation is always productive.
Sometimes a musician has
difficulty expressing what they want.
"I want to have a break on this part."
How do you want the break to be?
She'd tell you "This part of the song
is where my dancers can perform
and encourage audience to dance along."
She'd tell us the details
and we just do what she wants.
Let's dance!
Come on. Let's go!
The original composition
was already perfect.
I was reluctant to change something
that's already perfect.
Because that's how
people remember the song.
I just replaced some instruments
and sped up the beat a little
to make it danceable.
Fortunately she didn't ask me to dance.
She just wants me to arrange the music.
One, two, one, two...
In total we have 17 dancers.
Twelve of them are modern dancers.
And the other five
are special statement dancers
or contemporary dancers.
In previous concerts,
we did a full dance or serious dance.
But in this concert,
we want it to be light, playful, and fun.
We hired a big team for this concert.
Including all vendors and performers,
we can say in total
we have 600 crew members.
Everybody from day one
to the concert night.
We coordinate with Miss Inet.
We formulated a concept of her evolution
being in the business for 25 years.
We knew her career began
with her song "Nada-nada Cinta."
And in this concert we created
new arrangements of her hit songs
from 25 years of her music career.
And we wrap them in today's trends.
Rossa to me is my stage family.
Her perfectionism is
getting stronger with age.
She's more demanding now
than she was before.
For her past concerts,
we would have two or three meetings
where she'd tell us
what she wanted and that was it.
But for this year's concert,
with her being more mature
and with her knowledge
of how to stage a concert,
all of a sudden you get a message
where she asks you to make changes.
Small things that she didn't
pay attention to at all before.
This year they've all become her concern.
It made us very happy to see her getting
involved in the process as the artist.
I think she just can't switch off
her brain even while she's sleeping.
Because she always comes up
with fresh ideas.
We went, "My goodness,
did you sleep at all?"
Why does everybody ignore my calls?
I think they hate me, because I always...
- Yes, Bubu.
- Only Gema answered my call.
She asked for a thousand balloons to drop.
I want it in all colors, heart-shaped,
big and small. Just random.
Ma'am, you're asking too much.
She wants only the best.
She did a great job
with all her previous concerts.
Multiple great concerts.
Multiple glamorous concerts.
So she felt she had a duty to
make this one better than before. Right?
That's her burden.
To keep up the good performance
and make it better.
This one is lopsided, that one too.
This one is the most level.
Thank you.
I started working with her
in her previous shows.
But this is my first time
working with her in Istora Senayan.
I think it's going to give me
a different experience. I hope so.
What can we do to give
something fresh to her audience.
Finally we're working with her
again in her new concert.
Good luck on your next concert, Rossa.
What song do you like the most from Rossa?
- "Ku Menangis."
- "Ku Menangis"?
"Ku Menangis."
What song do you like the most from Rossa?
- "Tegar."
- "Tegar"? Why?
It's gonna make you cry.
"Terlalu Cinta."
I love "Terlalu Cinta,"
"Kini," all of her songs.
I love her too much...
I've been waiting for this night.
It's the concert night.
We're very excited and even...
Bible! This is
the first concert for Bible.
I hope Rossa can do
a concert tour all across Indonesia.
Go international!
It's a fun night.
We don't have to worry
too much about anything.
I want you to turn on
all your phones. Let's go!
Let's go!
That's how you host a show.
You need to greet everybody.
Unlike you.
It's a great honor to be
on the same stage as her.
Anytime at all she needs us...
Maintaining a career
for 25 years is not easy.
We want it to become a celebration.
Rossa is very close to her fans.
Especially since Instagram is widely used
as a social media platform.
It allows her to
communicate directly with her fans.
So when they finally meet in real life,
she can identify them by their names.
She also has a solid support system.
One of them comes
from the neighboring country.
Malaysian Dato
For Rossa
Rossa always does concerts in Malaysia.
I will come, God willing,
I'll try to come.
Almost all of her songs we can relate to.
It's like we're there with her,
we can feel her pain... Oh, my God.
I mean, she never considers us
as her fans.
We're all her extended family.
She inspires us all.
Her songs touch my heart.
The lyrics are so universal.
She deserves her success.
Honestly, I can't believe
it's been 25 years
looking at how young
they are in front of the stage.
I used to sing at your high school events,
and tonight you come to my concert.
Thank you for becoming a part of my life.
And let's pray for
a successful show tonight.
I hope you all enjoy the show.
Thank you, my friends.
I hope I can bring joy
to every one of you.
I want you to give it all you've got,
your mind and your heart
for a memorable concert.
She has been in the business for 25 years
and she still can give us a big concert.
On the day they started selling tickets,
you didn't have to wait long
for them to be sold out.
Thank God, all tickets are sold out!
It was fantastic. It gave me goosebumps.
Every time she performed her songs,
the ambience, people would sing with her.
- We're talking about a Diva.
- Yes, the charisma of a Diva.
Twenty-five years...
in concert!
During the 25 years of my career,
I released so many songs.
To me, each song,
each album has a different story.
A kind of diary
of what happened to me personally.
People gossip about me all the time.
They said to me, "Ocha,
you should stop singing sad songs
or someday it will happen to you."
They didn't know, the songs
I sang had already happened in my life.
It's okay, as long as
they keep paying me the royalties.
Thank you, ex.
Hello, next.
Me and my ex were too proud.
Until one day, I couldn't
help myself and I called him.
I said, "Hello. Have you listened to
my new song? Do you like the song?"
He said, "Yeah, it's a good song."
Then I said, "It's a song about you."
He just said, "Oh." It was so awkward.
We both went quiet and suddenly
I heard a woman's voice calling him.
"Babe, lunch is ready!"
This next song is
the saddest song I've ever sang.
It's about the day
when I received the invitation.
And it was from someone
who used to make you happy.
His birthday is at the end of September.
And his wedding day was set that year
on the month of my birthday.
One night, I called him.
We had a long conversation.
We cried together. And...
Long story short, we promised to meet
for the last time before he got married.
In the morning,
I was picking what to wear to meet him,
I couldn't sleep all night, etc.
And I received a text from him,
telling me not to bother waiting for him.
He would never come because if he did,
we both know what would happen.
Anything could happen, just nothing good.
And I wanted to give him a parting gift.
I thought about giving him something
that not many people get.
I remember he used to love
Padi's song "Semua Tak Sama."
I thought, I'd get the autographs
from the members of Padi.
She came to ask for our autographs
as a gift for her ex-boyfriend.
It wasn't even for
her boyfriend at that time.
There was only me in the office that day.
I met Yoyo there,
and I asked for his autograph.
That was when I first met Yoyo.
So after she handed me the CD,
we exchanged phone numbers.
Then we chatted on text message.
I said to her, "Do you want me bring you
your CD back? I'm going to Bandung."
That was the first conversation we had.
From then on, we texted
each other back and forth every day.
I heard about you,
they say you're a good singer.
I'm good at math too, you know.
No, you are known to be a singer
who can finish recording a song
in a very short time.
So when we recorded the song
"Hati yang Terkilir" (Sprained Heart)...
It's "Hati yang Terpilih"
(The Chosen Heart).
Fine.
You need to massage a sprained heart.
From then on, everything went naturally.
Then suddenly we were officially dating.
And all of a sudden,
we were officially married.
After that,
we just tried to get to know each other
and we became lovers.
And then we got married.
I just love to collect
cute men on the stage.
I know you're gonna scream in excitement
when you find out who's next.
Are you here with us, Maryati?
The song we just sang,
I remember hearing it for the first time
when I was still in middle school.
And if I'm not mistaken
she was still in high school.
Can you imagine?
She was still in high school
and already
had a singing career and a video.
So I think in case of experience,
I will give it to her.
And that's final.
Rossa!
Ariel!
She has a very lovable personality.
Everybody can relate to her.
She doesn't distance herself
from her fans.
There's no untouchable bone in her body,
she's very humble.
She could be your bestie.
One thing that I admire the most about her
is that she's a fighter.
I love her fighting spirit.
She always motivates herself.
Let's give it up for Rossa!
Thank you.
Afgan!
Not only does she have to
memorize the lyrics,
she also has to dance
and arrange the music.
She's a busy girl.
I hope she can keep healthy.
Playing an instrument for 27 songs
can be very exhausting.
So you can imagine how hard it is for her.
Singing uses up your energy faster.
Twenty seven songs, imagine that.
Are you tired of me yet?
No!
You are a fantastic audience.
I was honored to be asked
to sing on a soundtrack for a movie.
Melly and Anto,
thank you so much
for the gift of beautiful songs
throughout my music career.
In this of 25 Shining Years concert,
I sang three songs
written by Melly as a medley.
I sang the medley
to capture the sanctity of those songs.
In 2006, I think I was
pregnant at that time
and we recorded
the song "Atas Nama Cinta."
I remember the point of view
of the song was a universal story
about two people
who are already married
to someone else and fall in love
with each other in a hopeless romance.
One more time!
I always told Melly about my dream
of singing on a movie soundtrack.
I still remember,
I was in the car and she called me.
I answered her call
and we talked in Sundanese.
I remember
when you told me about your dream
of singing on a movie soundtrack.
I got an offer to write
a soundtrack called "Ayat-ayat Cinta."
Are you interested in singing it?
You can put the subtitle down here.
Before, when they wanted
to use my song in a movie,
they would choose an already made song
and synchronized it
with the upcoming movie.
But this time, the song
would be made from scratch for the movie.
I read the novel.
You know, since it was taken from a novel.
I read the novel and I fell in love
with the characters.
Maria, Aisyah and Fahri.
In my opinion,
their love for each other is pure.
You can't predict love.
You can't plan when to fall in love.
Love can come without a warning.
Even if you fall in love
with the wrong person...
Maybe it's not the wrong person,
just the wrong time.
Wrong time to fall in love.
I remember saying this to Melly.
The song won't be so special if taken
from the first wife's point of view.
How about we tell it
from the point of view of the second wife?
How about we make a song
from Maria's point of view?
After "Ayat-ayat Cinta" she was
asked to sing on many more soundtracks.
It was one more dream come true for her.
She didn't plan it, but...
It just happened.
And only after Aisyah gave her permission
then their love blossomed.
That's what "Ayat-ayat Cinta"
is all about.
"Hijrah Cinta" is a song written by Melly
and we dedicated the song
to our best friend
Uje who just passed away.
When we recorded the song,
I got so emotional.
Can you imagine singing a song
about someone who just died not long ago?
Melly and I were so emotional.
When we recorded the song,
there's a part of the lyrics
where I can't sing without crying.
I think it's about this.
"Money can't buy Uje's love for Allah."
I still can't even talk about it
without crying.
I mean,
when we recorded the song
we had a hard time finding the best take
where I sang it with a clear voice.
The best they could do
was pick the best one they could get.
Because, it was
very hard for me to sing it.
How do you feel when you have
to sing for a friend who just died?
I remember one week
before he died in that accident,
the three of us were at the same event.
It was...
It was shocking news to hear.
Okay...
The birth of my son,
Rizky Langit Ramadhan,
was like a miracle for me.
He's brought out so many feelings
I never thought existed.
He completes me.
I think someone just peed.
My friends asked me
about my parents getting a divorce.
I end up like, what's a divorce?
So I went home
from school and asked my mom.
"Are you and Daddy getting a divorce?"
"Yes."
I think at that time he didn't
understand the concept of separation.
It wouldn't change my love for him.
Even though we were no longer
living in the same house.
And I always made time for him when
we agreed on sharing custody of Rizky.
It happened in 2009.
We had a big concert in Malaysia.
Please don't be mad at me,
but I think they just got divorced.
I was getting my makeup done
when I got a call from my attorney.
"Miss Rossa, we already submitted
your divorce paper to the courthouse."
I immediately started crying.
I think she was very upset with
her divorce and she asked me for advice.
I said, "Just do your best
in the worst situation."
"The only person
who knows how it feels is you."
We wanted the divorce,
but when we got what we wished for...
Reality bites.
That's right. When we finally
get what we want, it still hurts.
I was on the stage and singing...
I'm crying...
It took her a while to make
peace with her divorce.
Though at times she'd go into denial,
acting happy like nothing had happened.
But slowly she picked up the pieces
and was able to stand strong again.
We were shocked to hear the news.
She told us,
I don't know,
maybe few months
or few years after the divorce.
So we understand
if she was still emotional about it.
She would look sad sometimes.
But she's so good at hiding her feelings.
Especially at cheerful events like this.
She won't show her sadness to you.
My advice is to let go of negative energy
and the fainting will go away on its own.
I watched it on TikTok, someone asked
if I listen to my own songs when I'm sad.
She's a human too.
She could show us she's happy.
But in reality she has
been through tough times too.
And sometimes
I think it's too hard for her.
I used to hate it when my dad came here.
I waited for
the right time to talk to him.
He was 13 years old when
I told him the reason why his mom and dad
decided to get divorce.
I told him
I failed as a father.
He's entitled to his feelings
even at such a young age.
I let him learn
to deal with his own feelings.
I just made sure he didn't cross the line.
Like it or not he's still his father.
I didn't want to push him.
I just said, "You can take me as I am
or you can get mad at me."
"You can say anything
you want to say to me right now."
I was shocked when he hugged me instead.
"Don't worry, Dad. It's in the past now."
Now you have...
You're a better person now.
That was the turning point where we
forgave each other.
Our relationship has grown from
husband and wife to become real family.
We support each other.
And it is our duty as parents
to raise our child together.
I know they're divorced now but that
doesn't mean they stop all communication.
They even went to
their divorce trial together.
So I think it took a lot of courage
for them to go through it together.
The atmosphere is just different.
We usually feel pumped and happy.
But this time it's hard for us because
our road manager died in a road accident.
Let's pray for his soul.
- Who?
- My roadman.
- Rofik.
- May he rest in peace.
- So...
- What happened?
Yesterday, on his way to the studio,
for the rehearsal.
He rode his bike to work,
and had an accident.
He crashed his bike and died instantly.
I just put my stuff
in my car ready to leave,
and got a phone call
confirming Rofik's death.
"Are you kidding? It's not funny."
He said, "I saw his body."
His wife called Gema, and said...
"Gema, please tell Rossa.
Rofik is no longer with us."
Poor man.
He said, "I'll be there
for you and Rossa." Promise?
"I promise. I won't go anywhere.
I'll be there for you and Rossa."
So when I got here
she looked sad and down.
I think it affected every one of us. But...
So I asked her,
do you still want to go on with the GR?
I have to be strong.
My manager told me I can cry my heart out
today, but I have to stop crying tomorrow.
I'm responsible too no matter what.
The show must go on.
I've never thought
I would use those words.
I still have to do my job.
Especially tomorrow night
when people come here hoping
to see my best performance.
And I know it in my heart he wants me
to sing my best tomorrow.
An incident like yesterday
could affect us mentally.
But we have to find a way to stay strong.
I told her...
Rofik was always there to help me walk up
on the stage in between wardrobe changes.
I mean...
He used to work as a roadman
for Glen Fredly.
And tonight I planned
to sing his song for him.
I can't believe it either.
If you don't mind, I want
you all to turn on your phone flash.
I told her if you're sad, be sad now.
And when it's time
for you to get up on the stage,
put your sadness away for a while.
Because what you feel
in your heart on the stage
will reflect on your performance.
So even though she was so sad that night,
once she held the mic,
she put aside her sadness.
I'm happy, I'm gonna light up the night.
All her audience,
all her crew members, everybody happy.
Once you get your job done,
you may go backstage and be sad again.
I remember the lowest point in her life.
It was in 2015 or 2016.
I remember what she said to me,
"Gem, I want to sell all my assets."
"I want to move abroad."
I think she came to realization that
she had reached the peak of her life
and wondered what
she's going to do with her life.
She was contemplating moving abroad.
She wanted to be with Rizky,
getting his education abroad.
If it makes you happy, just do it.
But inside I panicked, what if
she really decided to quit singing?
She never told us.
Not once.
And she never recovered from it.
One day I called Melly.
I said,
"Melly, can you write a song for me?"
What's the song about?
It's about falling in love with
someone who's already married.
Are you ready to do karaoke?
Can you give us a hint about the man?
I can't.
It's gonna be news for a gossip show.
She talked about selling her assets,
and living abroad.
She's not the kind of
person who can settle down
and do domestic chores.
Her business instinct
can't be shut down just like that.
I don't know about
when she hits 60 years old.
But until then, I don't think so.
REWARD FOR ROSSA FOR A NEW CHAPTER ALBUM
Until finally she got a new song
and made an album A New Chapter.
That was when she hit her turning point.
This year I'm planning
to create something new.
Something that I've never
tried in 20 years of my career.
We recorded a few songs in LA.
My producer while
I was there was Mitch Allen.
He used to work with Demi Lovato,
Kelly Clarkson, Jason Derulo,
and many more.
I went to LA and recorded four songs
with him and I put them all in this album.
It's like I was being recharged.
I felt so motivated and I knew
what I was gonna do with my life.
So I called my album A New Chapter.
Going forward from 2015, there were
many positive things happened in her life.
I can't hear you.
Her digital album
topped the charts that year.
Her fanbase grew
and she did so many concerts,
to make other singers dub her
as a "Concert Diva."
Yeah, we call her "Fake Diva."
She's so down to earth I think she doesn't
even realize her own popularity.
She's a very kind diva and she never
hesitates to share her knowledge.
So always loves to
share her knowledge with others.
Clap along with me!
Thank you, everybody!
Do you want to request a song
for me to sing?
Or is did any of you cry in
your bedroom while listening to my songs?
My dear Ross.
I call her Ross because
I remember Anang called her that.
I pray for many more productive years,
because I know it's her strongest suit.
I know she always innovates with
her skills to adapt and grow her fanbase.
Ocha...
Be a blessing to others.
I know she's a good person.
And I believe God will bless her
with goodness in her life.
Dear Ocha,
congrats on your 25 productive years.
Looking forward to working together again
with you on your 50th anniversary.
I'm wishing her a long-lasting career
to celebrate her 30th,
35th, 40th, even 50th anniversary.
Because she's an inspiration
for young musicians, including me.
Wishing you all the success,
happiness, body and soul. And...
PRAISE THE LORD
THANK YOU
FOR THE WONDERFUL PARENTS AND SON
AND ALL THE RELATIVES AND FRIENDS
THAT ALWAYS BE THERE FOR ME.
I came to Jakarta to study
at the University of Indonesia in 1996.
In the same year, I released my first
teen album Nada-nada Cinta.
It wasn't an easy journey for me.
My albums as a child were a flop.
There was a long hiatus
before releasing a new album.
And I was rejected by
many record companies.
However,
faith and determination from
the people who loved me brought
me to where I am today.
Why is it called "Shining"?
And what are you going to
bring to your fans who miss you.
It's only ten days away.
No, don't do that!
You're making me nervous.
I think this is the most glamorous
and the biggest concert
that Rossa has ever done.
It's a big concert and when
you include vendors and performers,
you can say 600 people
are involved in this event.
Tell me how hectic
your life is behind the scenes?
I can see how hectic it is tonight.
But I can't imagine how
hectic it could become in other cities.
I don't know what
happened to her, how she felt.
I'm not gonna lie,
I feel different about this concert.
It's so unreal
how this is gonna be my first concert.
In real life since the pandemic.
Even last night...
No, even this morning when
I woke up, I still felt so nervous.
Only after I had
my dresses fitted at Didi's...
For this 25th anniversary concert,
I got the inspiration from a dress
worn by an actress in the 1940s.
I saw a movie called Secret Police.
No!
Otherwise,
you make it off shoulder on one side.
In my opinion, she's a simple person.
She doesn't make it hard for me
to show off her real self.
Let me ask you something.
Can you show your chest once?
Can you show it? Or don't want?
Are you...
Are you trying to kill me?
- I wanna see it.
- No, you can't.
Can you make it more fitted
with an adjustable string inside it?
Sure, I can do that.
It will help me get it,
tighten it up to fit her body.
I don't want it to look loose.
Sure, I can slim down the waistline.
- My stylist lives in Hong Kong.
- Cover all...
Monica is also at home,
she doesn't feel well today.
I can communicate with them
by looking at the monitor.
I just want you to do your best.
Yeah! I can do it!
The story of my career started in 1996,
when I released
the song "Nada-nada Cinta."
The song was written
by Younky and Maryati.
From that album, "Nada-nada Cinta"
was the last song we recorded.
Because it's not easy to pick your hit...
I mean, the best song.
Like, which song will be liked?
It's a simple song.
It talks about love and I saw
her as a cheerful and sweet girl.
She had just entered adolescence.
I thought her heart should be filled
with love that's translated into notes,
to bring her happiness.
That's what inspired me
to write "Nada-nada Cinta."
When she was still young and singing,
I could see she had
the charisma to be a star.
She can breathe life into the song.
Becoming a good singer
and being someone who can sing well
are two different things.
In my opinion, Rossa is a good singer,
not just a person who can sing well.
That's the key.
We like watching movies.
In one movie the character
was a woman who was beautiful,
smart and so brave.
Her name is Rossa.
Then my husband said
we should name our daughter Rossa
so she can be smart, brave and kind too.
So that's when people
started to notice Rossa,
a new singer just born into
Indonesia's music industry.
I like the outfit I wore in this pic.
God, I was still
in high school in that photo.
Can I have the photo?
Where did you get it?
There were times
when I could only sing on Fridays,
Saturdays and Sundays.
Or even just on Saturdays and Sundays.
Because at that time,
I wanted to focus on my education
while selecting the best song.
I said to Mr. Andi,
"I'm not thinking about profit."
I just want to make her dream come true.
Because I knew in my heart she was a
hidden gem but I couldn't make her famous.
I finally made it with the song "Tegar."
The song was originally written
by Melly Goeslow for another singer.
However it didn't fit her character.
But I thought that it was a good song.
So I offered it to Mr. Adi
to be sang by Rossa.
It's so easy to talk to her.
We talked about everything
including boyfriends.
So most of her songs were, in a way, true
stories I captured from our conversations.
When I gave her the song
she screamed, "That's my story!"
I want to tell you
the story behind the "Tegar" video.
Just before we started
filming the video, I fell ill.
So fun fact about me, I always fell ill
during school transitions.
Graduating from Middle School
to High School, I had typhoid fever.
From High School to University,
I fell ill again.
Then right before we started
filming "Tegar," I fell ill again.
Every time I fell ill, I thought...
"In the name of God, I hope
this means I've passed to the next level."
I can't help but think that way.
We started filming at 5:30 a.m.
I went straight from
the ER to the filming location.
I remember it was on a footbridge.
The most memorable scene was where I sang
in front of a big clock on a building.
I remember sitting on
the rooftop of the building.
I remember she was so fragile.
Physically and mentally.
Whenever she heard bad news
about the people she loved
be it about her boyfriend
or bad news in general,
it would make her pass out
and caused her GERD to act up
and caused her to pass out again.
That's how I remember her.
I never thought the song
would become that big of a hit that year.
Finding a perfect song
is like finding your destiny.
If you're destined for it,
you will get it.
That's how I feel about "Tegar."
Thank you.
Thank you so much for everything.
I'm Narya Abhimata.
I'm the director for the video trailer of
Rossa's 25 Years Shining Concert.
Rossa loves joking.
In Sundanese it's called "bodor."
I'm just copying you, "Hello, hello..."
I've been working with Rossa since 1998.
It was during an event in Makassar.
We invited her for a meeting,
and she came with her mother.
I was a bit late and she arrived first.
"Where are you? We're here," she said.
And I thought she was spicy.
You would think she had a smooth career,
but in reality she has
put in a lot of work to it.
Her determination,
her motivation, it's admirable.
Sometimes, I got tired.
And she just kept going.
I handle everything
including the catering.
Don't do it. We can handle it for you.
- I mean...
- Is it because you're picky?
Exactly!
There's no new final decision.
It was decided yesterday after
everything had been approved...
She needs to be in control of everything,
even insignificant stuff.
For example, the crew t-shirts.
She made them change
the design three or five times. Why?
The print is too big,
too small, too low, too high.
She has to have
the final say on everything.
She has attention to detail.
That's just the way she is.
She's a perfectionist.
Can you try it first?
She would yell on the phone,
when I knew she wasn't angry at all.
I answered the phone and she yelled,
"Are you free to talk, Dek?"
I said,
"Can you tone it down a bit, ma'am?"
Since it's gonna be used
as the opening act,
we need to make the video a bit dramatic.
By only showing her silhouette,
it makes her a bit mysterious.
The VT also tells her career journey
as one of the divas
in Indonesia who's still on top.
The music industry is dynamic.
We have to evolve in sync with the era
and that's what she always wants.
Always keen to try new ideas.
Comparing her first concert
with this year's concert,
they're totally different.
Each concert has
different energy and a different target.
It is also applied to this concert.
I think this is one of the most glamorous
and the biggest concert she has ever done.
I had a dream to do a concert for Rossa.
I kept trying to convince her
to do a concert.
When we were on a plane to Surabaya,
I guess, I said to her...
"Bubu, you have to do a concert."
"You have released plenty
of songs and enough albums."
Then she said to me,
"You're right. Okay, I'll do it."
Knowing that she changes her mind a lot,
once we landed I called everybody.
"Bu, you can't change your mind on this.
I've already called Erwin, James..."
There was nothing she could do.
After the concert in Jakarta,
she said to me.
I made her fall in love with the concert.
She has no problem performing anywhere.
From high school,
to government, ceremonial events.
She has performed in front of the Prime
Minister of Malaysia and Brunei's VIPs.
Rossa is very popular in Malaysia.
She's a big star there.
Until one day she did a concert
sponsored by the Malaysian government.
Over 12,000 people came to see her
performance at the Bukit Jalil Stadium.
From that point on she was crowned
as one of Southeast Asia's Divas.
Sorry, Diva.
It's okay, 'cause I'm a diva.
It's okay, my people.
There's a venue called Istana Budaya.
That venue was originally built
for the native people of Malaysia.
Meaning, it's a place
to promote local culture.
And Rossa was the first Indonesian female
singer to do a concert in that building.
Rossa is so loved by her fans in Malaysia
it became clear to them
that she doesn't just belong to Indonesia,
she also belongs to Malaysia.
So one day she was given a "Datuk" title
and later upgraded to "Datuk Sri."
NIGHT OF THE MAGIC OF LOVE
I can use a little timpani in that part...
That's right.
Is that okay?
Do I need to repeat that part?
Yeah...
Now, the drum.
Can we build up from here?
This is my second rehearsal.
Today we changed all the arrangements
from my music director.
So there will be few
music directors for this concert.
Dendi and I have been
working together for at least 18 years.
He knew me from when I was how old?
I think it was around 2000...
- It was from 2004.
- From 2004, right?
If you like her song, you can
give credit to her good sense of music.
For example the song "Ku Menunggu."
The producer initially
refused to record the song arguing
it didn't fit her character.
She said, "No, this is my song. I can
sing this song and I will make it a hit."
And she proved them she's right.
She knew the song was hers
and with good production,
she created a good result.
Can we do a little improvisation?
Wait...
Like that? Give a higher pitch at the end.
Let me hear it.
I want to upgrade the tempo,
but we don't have a metronome here.
What the heck?
Do we have power outage?
Power outage again...
Name one song
that reflects her life the most?
All songs she created with
the songwriters tell us a bit of her life.
So I think all
of her songs are about her life.
I love to make changes
in the arrangement or let's say
I destroy my music directors' arrangement.
When you ask who
Rossa's music director is? There she is.
No, I'm not.
Great.
There were times when she fell ill
and needed to be given IV fluids
while her makeup artist did her makeup.
Then when it was time for
her to sing, they pulled out the IV
and put it back in after she sang.
That's not a one-time incident.
It shows her determination.
When we were in Bajo...
We performed in Bajo
before this event, right?
Yeah.
Then I got sick...
I mean I passed out from exhaustion.
We were talking about her last fainting
incident, which was almost 8 years ago.
"I know, thank God."
Then all of a sudden
her GERD starts to act up.
When she was on the stage, no one knew
she was very sick at that time.
She kept touching her belly
like she was about to give birth.
It was that painful, I think.
It was like a mental breakdown.
I'm so embarrassed.
But once she got on the stage I watched
her and I wondered if she was okay?
She was dancing around,
encouraging the audience
to sing and dance along with her.
I thought she was already better.
But actually, she was still sick.
It was just her being professional.
She wants the event to go smoothly.
She doesn't want to know any problem.
She doesn't want to disappoint anybody.
There were many times in the restaurant
where I couldn't stop crying.
- I don't know if you noticed or not.
- Of course we did.
I hate it.
Tell us what was
on your mind at that time?
This is the first day
where I can fully focus on work.
I was a mess a few days ago.
Something happened
that I did not want to share with anybody.
I thought I'd better keep it to myself.
My best friend... I mean...
It's Rizky.
He never asked what happened.
Well, he did,
but he didn't push for answer.
He was okay
if I didn't want to tell him. As long as
you'll be okay.
Only Rizky knows everything about me.
His accent gave him away.
Stop teasing me.
A father's love is as deep as the sea.
A mother's love is as big as the ocean.
When I was a little girl...
Can I share a little story with you?
Yes!
A little story
from when I was a little girl.
My mom always sang me a song
before I went to sleep.
Sweetie...
They're going to make
a documentary film about me.
I was in 3rd grade or 4th grade when
I realized who she really was.
And what she did for a living.
I think the first time
she opened up to me...
Yup, one, two, three...
- I like it.
- Yay!
Ending it with
the guitar sound will be perfect.
Yeah.
Hey, sweetie.
Rizky is so close with his mother.
We nicknamed her "Bubu."
When she fell ill, he went...
He sometimes got mad at us.
We didn't know anything.
"My mom is sick. Do something!"
But I think there's
a similarity between Rossa and Rizky.
When they want something,
they want it right there and then.
Or just buy it online.
Just like his mother. Exactly the same.
They'd ask you every minute.
"Where are you now?"
My mom and I are alike.
Yeah. You got her stubbornness too.
And if it's soft?
Then it's not hard.
You'll dent the glass.
Thank you, Mom.
You've always been there for me.
You always helped my study,
even when you were not feeling well.
Mom, you're the best thing for me.
You're my angel.
Even when you're out of town,
you're still in my heart.
Thank you.
She sometimes got sad,
but she didn't show it.
She's a strong woman.
I knew it when she had a lot
of problems but she had to go to work.
She would act happy
in front of the camera and her fans.
But inside her room, she looked
so tired and sometimes she cried.
But once she got on the stage
or met her clients she would act happy.
At home when I saw her look sad
or down sometimes...
I'd just enter her room
and give some advice.
With Rizky they're like lovers.
They're so close.
Before she leaves home,
she always knocks on
his bedroom door and says,
"Bye,
honey."
"Be good."
When she didn't have time to say goodbye,
once she got home that night
even when he was already asleep, she'd
wake him up and ask him about his day.
She always makes time for him.
Rizky is her life.
Every time the topic is about her son,
her demeanor becomes more solemn.
As a Libra, I tend
to overthink everything.
I'm so emotional.
I could be super happy one day
and become super sad later.
There's no middle ground for me.
I'm crying...
Rossa here, problems gone...
Problems here, Rossa gone...
She's very good with planning.
She'll do anything to make sure
the project goes smoothly.
She's keen on details and
she hires perfect people for their jobs.
Almost all of
her concerts were successful.
Is it there? I forgot.
Okay, everybody, listen up.
Before we start this rehearsal,
let's take a moment of silence to pray.
Let's especially pray for Rossa's health,
physically and mentally.
And for us to do a good job.
Praying begins.
Let's start.
Her signature skill is
to breathe life into her songs.
She can sing
the lyrics with all her heart.
And make it her own.
And I guess that's a skill
not owned by many singers.
This concert is to celebrate 25 years
of Rossa's singing career. As an artist.
We're mixing and matching new arrangements
with the original version.
Just like 25 years of her journey.
How about we try singing it once?
Rossa said she hasn't
memorized the lyrics either.
You're right.
Everyone stand by.
There are many singers
who can produce hit songs.
But not many can maintain
their career as long as Rossa.
Yeah, I was just...
- It's my part.
- No, this is your part.
No, this is my part.
No, it's mine.
This part is taken from Noah's song,
and we changed the lyrics a bit.
She's not only a good singer
but she knows how to
stay relevant in the industry.
To me, she hasn't changed at all.
She can sing sincerely from the heart.
She doesn't have any problem
with her singing technique.
She's one of few singers
who could produce a song in
only a short period of recording.
In my opinion, a singer...
It will touch the hearts of
people who listen to the song.
That's the reason she has had
a long 25-year career in music.
Andi Rianto, Magenta Orchestra.
And her attitude.
She always...
Respects and is appreciative
to the people who work with her.
That work ethics spreads to her team too.
Young people today
rely on electronic sound.
Rossa is a visionary.
She can predict a trend
and even creates new ones.
Songs she helps arrange and ideas
she has sometimes are ahead of trends.
When she hears a new trend,
she says, "I did it first."
She has deep musical knowledge,
so our conversation is always productive.
Sometimes a musician has
difficulty expressing what they want.
"I want to have a break on this part."
How do you want the break to be?
She'd tell you "This part of the song
is where my dancers can perform
and encourage audience to dance along."
She'd tell us the details
and we just do what she wants.
Let's dance!
Come on. Let's go!
The original composition
was already perfect.
I was reluctant to change something
that's already perfect.
Because that's how
people remember the song.
I just replaced some instruments
and sped up the beat a little
to make it danceable.
Fortunately she didn't ask me to dance.
She just wants me to arrange the music.
One, two, one, two...
In total we have 17 dancers.
Twelve of them are modern dancers.
And the other five
are special statement dancers
or contemporary dancers.
In previous concerts,
we did a full dance or serious dance.
But in this concert,
we want it to be light, playful, and fun.
We hired a big team for this concert.
Including all vendors and performers,
we can say in total
we have 600 crew members.
Everybody from day one
to the concert night.
We coordinate with Miss Inet.
We formulated a concept of her evolution
being in the business for 25 years.
We knew her career began
with her song "Nada-nada Cinta."
And in this concert we created
new arrangements of her hit songs
from 25 years of her music career.
And we wrap them in today's trends.
Rossa to me is my stage family.
Her perfectionism is
getting stronger with age.
She's more demanding now
than she was before.
For her past concerts,
we would have two or three meetings
where she'd tell us
what she wanted and that was it.
But for this year's concert,
with her being more mature
and with her knowledge
of how to stage a concert,
all of a sudden you get a message
where she asks you to make changes.
Small things that she didn't
pay attention to at all before.
This year they've all become her concern.
It made us very happy to see her getting
involved in the process as the artist.
I think she just can't switch off
her brain even while she's sleeping.
Because she always comes up
with fresh ideas.
We went, "My goodness,
did you sleep at all?"
Why does everybody ignore my calls?
I think they hate me, because I always...
- Yes, Bubu.
- Only Gema answered my call.
She asked for a thousand balloons to drop.
I want it in all colors, heart-shaped,
big and small. Just random.
Ma'am, you're asking too much.
She wants only the best.
She did a great job
with all her previous concerts.
Multiple great concerts.
Multiple glamorous concerts.
So she felt she had a duty to
make this one better than before. Right?
That's her burden.
To keep up the good performance
and make it better.
This one is lopsided, that one too.
This one is the most level.
Thank you.
I started working with her
in her previous shows.
But this is my first time
working with her in Istora Senayan.
I think it's going to give me
a different experience. I hope so.
What can we do to give
something fresh to her audience.
Finally we're working with her
again in her new concert.
Good luck on your next concert, Rossa.
What song do you like the most from Rossa?
- "Ku Menangis."
- "Ku Menangis"?
"Ku Menangis."
What song do you like the most from Rossa?
- "Tegar."
- "Tegar"? Why?
It's gonna make you cry.
"Terlalu Cinta."
I love "Terlalu Cinta,"
"Kini," all of her songs.
I love her too much...
I've been waiting for this night.
It's the concert night.
We're very excited and even...
Bible! This is
the first concert for Bible.
I hope Rossa can do
a concert tour all across Indonesia.
Go international!
It's a fun night.
We don't have to worry
too much about anything.
I want you to turn on
all your phones. Let's go!
Let's go!
That's how you host a show.
You need to greet everybody.
Unlike you.
It's a great honor to be
on the same stage as her.
Anytime at all she needs us...
Maintaining a career
for 25 years is not easy.
We want it to become a celebration.
Rossa is very close to her fans.
Especially since Instagram is widely used
as a social media platform.
It allows her to
communicate directly with her fans.
So when they finally meet in real life,
she can identify them by their names.
She also has a solid support system.
One of them comes
from the neighboring country.
Malaysian Dato
For Rossa
Rossa always does concerts in Malaysia.
I will come, God willing,
I'll try to come.
Almost all of her songs we can relate to.
It's like we're there with her,
we can feel her pain... Oh, my God.
I mean, she never considers us
as her fans.
We're all her extended family.
She inspires us all.
Her songs touch my heart.
The lyrics are so universal.
She deserves her success.
Honestly, I can't believe
it's been 25 years
looking at how young
they are in front of the stage.
I used to sing at your high school events,
and tonight you come to my concert.
Thank you for becoming a part of my life.
And let's pray for
a successful show tonight.
I hope you all enjoy the show.
Thank you, my friends.
I hope I can bring joy
to every one of you.
I want you to give it all you've got,
your mind and your heart
for a memorable concert.
She has been in the business for 25 years
and she still can give us a big concert.
On the day they started selling tickets,
you didn't have to wait long
for them to be sold out.
Thank God, all tickets are sold out!
It was fantastic. It gave me goosebumps.
Every time she performed her songs,
the ambience, people would sing with her.
- We're talking about a Diva.
- Yes, the charisma of a Diva.
Twenty-five years...
in concert!
During the 25 years of my career,
I released so many songs.
To me, each song,
each album has a different story.
A kind of diary
of what happened to me personally.
People gossip about me all the time.
They said to me, "Ocha,
you should stop singing sad songs
or someday it will happen to you."
They didn't know, the songs
I sang had already happened in my life.
It's okay, as long as
they keep paying me the royalties.
Thank you, ex.
Hello, next.
Me and my ex were too proud.
Until one day, I couldn't
help myself and I called him.
I said, "Hello. Have you listened to
my new song? Do you like the song?"
He said, "Yeah, it's a good song."
Then I said, "It's a song about you."
He just said, "Oh." It was so awkward.
We both went quiet and suddenly
I heard a woman's voice calling him.
"Babe, lunch is ready!"
This next song is
the saddest song I've ever sang.
It's about the day
when I received the invitation.
And it was from someone
who used to make you happy.
His birthday is at the end of September.
And his wedding day was set that year
on the month of my birthday.
One night, I called him.
We had a long conversation.
We cried together. And...
Long story short, we promised to meet
for the last time before he got married.
In the morning,
I was picking what to wear to meet him,
I couldn't sleep all night, etc.
And I received a text from him,
telling me not to bother waiting for him.
He would never come because if he did,
we both know what would happen.
Anything could happen, just nothing good.
And I wanted to give him a parting gift.
I thought about giving him something
that not many people get.
I remember he used to love
Padi's song "Semua Tak Sama."
I thought, I'd get the autographs
from the members of Padi.
She came to ask for our autographs
as a gift for her ex-boyfriend.
It wasn't even for
her boyfriend at that time.
There was only me in the office that day.
I met Yoyo there,
and I asked for his autograph.
That was when I first met Yoyo.
So after she handed me the CD,
we exchanged phone numbers.
Then we chatted on text message.
I said to her, "Do you want me bring you
your CD back? I'm going to Bandung."
That was the first conversation we had.
From then on, we texted
each other back and forth every day.
I heard about you,
they say you're a good singer.
I'm good at math too, you know.
No, you are known to be a singer
who can finish recording a song
in a very short time.
So when we recorded the song
"Hati yang Terkilir" (Sprained Heart)...
It's "Hati yang Terpilih"
(The Chosen Heart).
Fine.
You need to massage a sprained heart.
From then on, everything went naturally.
Then suddenly we were officially dating.
And all of a sudden,
we were officially married.
After that,
we just tried to get to know each other
and we became lovers.
And then we got married.
I just love to collect
cute men on the stage.
I know you're gonna scream in excitement
when you find out who's next.
Are you here with us, Maryati?
The song we just sang,
I remember hearing it for the first time
when I was still in middle school.
And if I'm not mistaken
she was still in high school.
Can you imagine?
She was still in high school
and already
had a singing career and a video.
So I think in case of experience,
I will give it to her.
And that's final.
Rossa!
Ariel!
She has a very lovable personality.
Everybody can relate to her.
She doesn't distance herself
from her fans.
There's no untouchable bone in her body,
she's very humble.
She could be your bestie.
One thing that I admire the most about her
is that she's a fighter.
I love her fighting spirit.
She always motivates herself.
Let's give it up for Rossa!
Thank you.
Afgan!
Not only does she have to
memorize the lyrics,
she also has to dance
and arrange the music.
She's a busy girl.
I hope she can keep healthy.
Playing an instrument for 27 songs
can be very exhausting.
So you can imagine how hard it is for her.
Singing uses up your energy faster.
Twenty seven songs, imagine that.
Are you tired of me yet?
No!
You are a fantastic audience.
I was honored to be asked
to sing on a soundtrack for a movie.
Melly and Anto,
thank you so much
for the gift of beautiful songs
throughout my music career.
In this of 25 Shining Years concert,
I sang three songs
written by Melly as a medley.
I sang the medley
to capture the sanctity of those songs.
In 2006, I think I was
pregnant at that time
and we recorded
the song "Atas Nama Cinta."
I remember the point of view
of the song was a universal story
about two people
who are already married
to someone else and fall in love
with each other in a hopeless romance.
One more time!
I always told Melly about my dream
of singing on a movie soundtrack.
I still remember,
I was in the car and she called me.
I answered her call
and we talked in Sundanese.
I remember
when you told me about your dream
of singing on a movie soundtrack.
I got an offer to write
a soundtrack called "Ayat-ayat Cinta."
Are you interested in singing it?
You can put the subtitle down here.
Before, when they wanted
to use my song in a movie,
they would choose an already made song
and synchronized it
with the upcoming movie.
But this time, the song
would be made from scratch for the movie.
I read the novel.
You know, since it was taken from a novel.
I read the novel and I fell in love
with the characters.
Maria, Aisyah and Fahri.
In my opinion,
their love for each other is pure.
You can't predict love.
You can't plan when to fall in love.
Love can come without a warning.
Even if you fall in love
with the wrong person...
Maybe it's not the wrong person,
just the wrong time.
Wrong time to fall in love.
I remember saying this to Melly.
The song won't be so special if taken
from the first wife's point of view.
How about we tell it
from the point of view of the second wife?
How about we make a song
from Maria's point of view?
After "Ayat-ayat Cinta" she was
asked to sing on many more soundtracks.
It was one more dream come true for her.
She didn't plan it, but...
It just happened.
And only after Aisyah gave her permission
then their love blossomed.
That's what "Ayat-ayat Cinta"
is all about.
"Hijrah Cinta" is a song written by Melly
and we dedicated the song
to our best friend
Uje who just passed away.
When we recorded the song,
I got so emotional.
Can you imagine singing a song
about someone who just died not long ago?
Melly and I were so emotional.
When we recorded the song,
there's a part of the lyrics
where I can't sing without crying.
I think it's about this.
"Money can't buy Uje's love for Allah."
I still can't even talk about it
without crying.
I mean,
when we recorded the song
we had a hard time finding the best take
where I sang it with a clear voice.
The best they could do
was pick the best one they could get.
Because, it was
very hard for me to sing it.
How do you feel when you have
to sing for a friend who just died?
I remember one week
before he died in that accident,
the three of us were at the same event.
It was...
It was shocking news to hear.
Okay...
The birth of my son,
Rizky Langit Ramadhan,
was like a miracle for me.
He's brought out so many feelings
I never thought existed.
He completes me.
I think someone just peed.
My friends asked me
about my parents getting a divorce.
I end up like, what's a divorce?
So I went home
from school and asked my mom.
"Are you and Daddy getting a divorce?"
"Yes."
I think at that time he didn't
understand the concept of separation.
It wouldn't change my love for him.
Even though we were no longer
living in the same house.
And I always made time for him when
we agreed on sharing custody of Rizky.
It happened in 2009.
We had a big concert in Malaysia.
Please don't be mad at me,
but I think they just got divorced.
I was getting my makeup done
when I got a call from my attorney.
"Miss Rossa, we already submitted
your divorce paper to the courthouse."
I immediately started crying.
I think she was very upset with
her divorce and she asked me for advice.
I said, "Just do your best
in the worst situation."
"The only person
who knows how it feels is you."
We wanted the divorce,
but when we got what we wished for...
Reality bites.
That's right. When we finally
get what we want, it still hurts.
I was on the stage and singing...
I'm crying...
It took her a while to make
peace with her divorce.
Though at times she'd go into denial,
acting happy like nothing had happened.
But slowly she picked up the pieces
and was able to stand strong again.
We were shocked to hear the news.
She told us,
I don't know,
maybe few months
or few years after the divorce.
So we understand
if she was still emotional about it.
She would look sad sometimes.
But she's so good at hiding her feelings.
Especially at cheerful events like this.
She won't show her sadness to you.
My advice is to let go of negative energy
and the fainting will go away on its own.
I watched it on TikTok, someone asked
if I listen to my own songs when I'm sad.
She's a human too.
She could show us she's happy.
But in reality she has
been through tough times too.
And sometimes
I think it's too hard for her.
I used to hate it when my dad came here.
I waited for
the right time to talk to him.
He was 13 years old when
I told him the reason why his mom and dad
decided to get divorce.
I told him
I failed as a father.
He's entitled to his feelings
even at such a young age.
I let him learn
to deal with his own feelings.
I just made sure he didn't cross the line.
Like it or not he's still his father.
I didn't want to push him.
I just said, "You can take me as I am
or you can get mad at me."
"You can say anything
you want to say to me right now."
I was shocked when he hugged me instead.
"Don't worry, Dad. It's in the past now."
Now you have...
You're a better person now.
That was the turning point where we
forgave each other.
Our relationship has grown from
husband and wife to become real family.
We support each other.
And it is our duty as parents
to raise our child together.
I know they're divorced now but that
doesn't mean they stop all communication.
They even went to
their divorce trial together.
So I think it took a lot of courage
for them to go through it together.
The atmosphere is just different.
We usually feel pumped and happy.
But this time it's hard for us because
our road manager died in a road accident.
Let's pray for his soul.
- Who?
- My roadman.
- Rofik.
- May he rest in peace.
- So...
- What happened?
Yesterday, on his way to the studio,
for the rehearsal.
He rode his bike to work,
and had an accident.
He crashed his bike and died instantly.
I just put my stuff
in my car ready to leave,
and got a phone call
confirming Rofik's death.
"Are you kidding? It's not funny."
He said, "I saw his body."
His wife called Gema, and said...
"Gema, please tell Rossa.
Rofik is no longer with us."
Poor man.
He said, "I'll be there
for you and Rossa." Promise?
"I promise. I won't go anywhere.
I'll be there for you and Rossa."
So when I got here
she looked sad and down.
I think it affected every one of us. But...
So I asked her,
do you still want to go on with the GR?
I have to be strong.
My manager told me I can cry my heart out
today, but I have to stop crying tomorrow.
I'm responsible too no matter what.
The show must go on.
I've never thought
I would use those words.
I still have to do my job.
Especially tomorrow night
when people come here hoping
to see my best performance.
And I know it in my heart he wants me
to sing my best tomorrow.
An incident like yesterday
could affect us mentally.
But we have to find a way to stay strong.
I told her...
Rofik was always there to help me walk up
on the stage in between wardrobe changes.
I mean...
He used to work as a roadman
for Glen Fredly.
And tonight I planned
to sing his song for him.
I can't believe it either.
If you don't mind, I want
you all to turn on your phone flash.
I told her if you're sad, be sad now.
And when it's time
for you to get up on the stage,
put your sadness away for a while.
Because what you feel
in your heart on the stage
will reflect on your performance.
So even though she was so sad that night,
once she held the mic,
she put aside her sadness.
I'm happy, I'm gonna light up the night.
All her audience,
all her crew members, everybody happy.
Once you get your job done,
you may go backstage and be sad again.
I remember the lowest point in her life.
It was in 2015 or 2016.
I remember what she said to me,
"Gem, I want to sell all my assets."
"I want to move abroad."
I think she came to realization that
she had reached the peak of her life
and wondered what
she's going to do with her life.
She was contemplating moving abroad.
She wanted to be with Rizky,
getting his education abroad.
If it makes you happy, just do it.
But inside I panicked, what if
she really decided to quit singing?
She never told us.
Not once.
And she never recovered from it.
One day I called Melly.
I said,
"Melly, can you write a song for me?"
What's the song about?
It's about falling in love with
someone who's already married.
Are you ready to do karaoke?
Can you give us a hint about the man?
I can't.
It's gonna be news for a gossip show.
She talked about selling her assets,
and living abroad.
She's not the kind of
person who can settle down
and do domestic chores.
Her business instinct
can't be shut down just like that.
I don't know about
when she hits 60 years old.
But until then, I don't think so.
REWARD FOR ROSSA FOR A NEW CHAPTER ALBUM
Until finally she got a new song
and made an album A New Chapter.
That was when she hit her turning point.
This year I'm planning
to create something new.
Something that I've never
tried in 20 years of my career.
We recorded a few songs in LA.
My producer while
I was there was Mitch Allen.
He used to work with Demi Lovato,
Kelly Clarkson, Jason Derulo,
and many more.
I went to LA and recorded four songs
with him and I put them all in this album.
It's like I was being recharged.
I felt so motivated and I knew
what I was gonna do with my life.
So I called my album A New Chapter.
Going forward from 2015, there were
many positive things happened in her life.
I can't hear you.
Her digital album
topped the charts that year.
Her fanbase grew
and she did so many concerts,
to make other singers dub her
as a "Concert Diva."
Yeah, we call her "Fake Diva."
She's so down to earth I think she doesn't
even realize her own popularity.
She's a very kind diva and she never
hesitates to share her knowledge.
So always loves to
share her knowledge with others.
Clap along with me!
Thank you, everybody!
Do you want to request a song
for me to sing?
Or is did any of you cry in
your bedroom while listening to my songs?
My dear Ross.
I call her Ross because
I remember Anang called her that.
I pray for many more productive years,
because I know it's her strongest suit.
I know she always innovates with
her skills to adapt and grow her fanbase.
Ocha...
Be a blessing to others.
I know she's a good person.
And I believe God will bless her
with goodness in her life.
Dear Ocha,
congrats on your 25 productive years.
Looking forward to working together again
with you on your 50th anniversary.
I'm wishing her a long-lasting career
to celebrate her 30th,
35th, 40th, even 50th anniversary.
Because she's an inspiration
for young musicians, including me.
Wishing you all the success,
happiness, body and soul. And...
PRAISE THE LORD
THANK YOU
FOR THE WONDERFUL PARENTS AND SON
AND ALL THE RELATIVES AND FRIENDS
THAT ALWAYS BE THERE FOR ME.
