GENESIS 19:17
[Traffic hum]
[Man] So they had
these big plans in the 60s,
to turn it into an industrial hub.
A free trade zone.
And then the civil war happened.
In Black September,
and everything shifted.
There's a factory,
and an abandoned military base.
But somehow it just feels so far.
Lost in time and space.
They call it 'The Island of Dead'
because of its history.
A ghost town.
You'd like it there.
[Delicate, melancholic piano music]
[Wind hisses]
[In German] I sometimes forget what
your face looks like when youre away.
Im trying to remember... to memorize.
[Wind blows]
[Baby cries]
[Woman speaks on PA, in French]
[Baby wails]

enjoyed your flight with Air Shalom,
We apologise again for the turbulence.
Please allow for extra
time at passport control
due to airport closures
and staff shortages.
The local time is 4:17am.
A shuttle provided by the airport will
take you to baggage claim at Terminal A.
[Baby continues crying]
[Soft, dramatic music]
[Music continues]
[Music fades]
[In English] Hi I called,
I'd like to check in.
OK.
Uh...
- How many nights?
- Um... I don't know.
- Do I have to know now?

- OK.
Also...
This for er...
- I'll take up to the room, OK?

[Man on radio, in Arabic] A sad
sight truly, the abandoned airport,
the two main terminals
have been closed already.
[Driver coughs]
Four airlines today
took their final trips
on almost-empty flights.
[Dog barks]
[In English] We usually
wait for the family,
the official persons,
But if you want to see the place,
I can bring you.
These are Ismail's personal effects.
[Phone rings]
Sorry for that, excuse me.
Hello? Yes.
- [Man speaks on phone, indistinct]
- Yes, dear.
Yes of course.
No I remember it was today.
Listen, pass her my regards
and congratulations.
Okay, bye now.
If there's any more...
any worries, any questions, you can call.
You said "remains" a moment ago...
What kind of condition...
I don't know all the words,
But I know he was very much damaged.
His face... his neck
and the car was...
So... even with the...
Seat belt?
Many broken bones,
and his chest...
and...
- Ribs?
- Yes.
The driver...
she...
she tried to brake and avoid the valley.
But Ismail
was most affected by this accident.
It was fast,
they say,
directly before the car fell.

Your family?

I'm waiting for my papers.
There are some problems back home.
