That's the evidence locker.
MIKE: Did you keep any type
of hazmat material in there?
Or anything combustible?
JUSTIN: Probably.
Why?
MIKE: Well, you been in this job
as long as I have,
you develop a nose
for accelerants.
I did smell gasoline in there.
But whether that's what caused
it or started it, I can't say.
Is there any chance it
was an electrical fire?
Like from a cord on a
coffee maker or something?
Different burn pattern, man.
But I will say that
the fire did originate
in the center of the room.
So, you're thinking arson?
So, if someone tossed a Molotov
cocktail through the window,
it would have exploded
near the evidence locker.
RP: If that were the case
and Dwayne was inside,
he barely would have
had time to react.
Yeah. Probably be dead if
he weren't so incompetent.
RP: So if the Wades
and the McGraths really
are responsible
Then this is the
first of many fires
that we're going

MAXX: Shoot.
We can't make out the

started on the inside,
they would have known
we had a prisoner
MAXX: And burnt him alive.
Can you push in?
That guy has a gun.
Dwayne would have
heard a gunshot.
Maybe not. Can you push in?
- Yeah.
JUSTIN: It has a silencer.

Sir!
Shell casing.

Prisoner didn't burn to death;
he was executed.
The fire wasn't about us
it was about him.

JUSTIN: Mayor's finding
us a place to set up.
When she does, we need
to find everything we can
about the victim.
We've seen his record.
Nothing in his
past suggests this.
Which means he's into
something way worse.
MAXX: And before I left for
the funeral he was kind of
fishing around the
idea of cutting a deal.
Well, if he's the type to
set up his partners in crime,
it'd make sense they'd want him
dead before he had the chance.
MAXX: But why burn
down the station?
JUSTIN: Cover his tracks?
Get rid of some evidence.

neither one of them
had their ID's on them.

Afraid of how I'll react
in a dangerous situation.
Afraid that I'll mess up

If you are that afraid,
why did you choose this life?
MAXX: Because
what's greater than my fear
is my desire to help people.
To keep them safe.
To make Blue Ridge

Do you have a sister?
Three.
All younger.
And you would do

I'm afraid if I help you,

But if we're going

ANIKA: First, attach the

JUSTIN: Done.
Now on the radio

JUSTIN: It worked.
It's there?
Yes.
I've got to get this
information to the FBI.
Anika, can you think
of anything else?
Where was the van going
when you got the flat tire?
To the store.
To buy food and water.
And where were you coming from?
A large warehouse.
I don't know where.
This warehouse
Did it have any distinguishing
characteristics?
A weather vane but it's broken.
It's always pointing north.
Is this warehouse where
the other women are?
Yes.
JUSTIN: Great work.
We're going to find them.

RP: So the murder,
the fire, it was all because
of indentured servitude?
In Anika's situation
it's far worse;
it's just like
full-fledged slavery.
It's big business.
They lure these people
into the country
with the promise of
The American Dream,
then force them to work in
factories, farms, markets,
sometimes even worse,
for little to no money.
Probably burned down the station
just in case we had this.
I think I found it!
Do you know the spot that
they're talking about?
I'm sorry, I don't.
But
I might know someone who does.
No.
The abandoned Pogue place.
You're sure?
Yeah.
Yeah.
It got hit whenever Hugo
come through in '89
and twisted the vane all up.
Knocked some stuff up.
That's your shed.
RP: There a reason
Maxx isn't with us?
JUSTIN: She's
guarding our witness.
From coldblooded killers we're
hoping to find at the barn?
Something on your mind, deputy?
Look, I know she messed
up with Dwayne but
it feels a bit like
you're sheltering her.
She's getting her feet wet.
So am I.
You're ex-military.
RP: Sure that's what this is?
As opposed to?
You have a daughter, Sheriff,
and it's your sole
instinct to protect her.
I get that. But Maxx
she's a deputy
sheriff; same as me.
She's my partner out there.
And I just need to know that
if and when I find myself in a
situation that goes sideways,
she's gonna be able to

Two armed suspects fleeing
northeast in a white Chevy S10.
Are you all right?
MAXX: I've been shot.
Anika ran into the woods.
I don't know whether or not
they've gone after her.
- We'll be right there.
Hold tight. She's been hit.
[ENGINE STARTS]

There! Right there! Come on!

CONNOR: Sheriff!
Sheriff! They got a head start
but you can catch
them. Use these.
Your deputy entered
the woods right there.
[ATV ENGINES START]

JUSTIN: You go
left, I'll go right.
[ATV ENGINES]
Stop!!!!
[GUNSHOTS]

What did you tell the police?
Don't lie to me!
[SCREAMING] Talk!!!
I told them everything.
Everything.
For example?

The van.
That's right.
I saw Tank open it. I
watched and I listened.
Ernie.
Salazar.
I told them your names.
And they'll catch
and put you in prison
for the rest of your lives.
And I'll die in peace today
knowing that you are
done hurting people
because I was brave.
ERNIE: C'mon, man, we gotta go.
Let's kill her
and get outta here
now!
[ATV ENGINE APPROACHES]

[GUNSHOT]

[GRUNTING]

[FIGHTING]
JUSTIN: Don't
you
move.
You're under arrest.

Thanks to the intel you gave us,
the FBI was able to
intercept their van
before they left the state.
And my sister?
She's safe.
They all are.
MAXX: Thanks to you.
You were brave.

JUSTIN: Wow.
You look so beautiful.
Thank you.
I- I just-
never seen you so, you know,
gussied up at work.
Is it because of
our anniversary?
Former anniversary.
Right.
Is that why?
Listen Justin, what
I wanted to talk
to you about the other night
[DOOR BELLS RING]
Uh sorry, we're closed.
ELLI: Uh, no, no,
no. It's okay.
Justin, you remember Ryan.
Ryan. ELLI: From
Maddie's school?
JUSTIN: Oh yeah.
Hey. RYAN: Hey.
Nice to meet ya. I-just-
I've had a really
rough couple-
Why do you have flowers?
ELLI: Are those for me?
RYAN: Yeah-yes, they are.
ELLI: Thank you.
They're beautiful.

JUSTIN: Are you two?
ELLI: Could you
give us a second?
RYAN: Of course.

Are you going on a date?
On our anniversary?
It's our former anniversary.
And yes. And I didn't
think about the actual date
when he
asked me on the date.
When were you going to tell me?
The other night, when I asked
you to come here and talk to me.
Look
I don't need your permission.
Okay? We're not
married anymore.
And we haven't been
for a few years.
And I haven't been on a
single date since. So-
I am giving you the
courtesy, of telling you,
because you're my coparent. And
also 'cause you're my friend.

But I don't need your approval.

You're right.
I'm sorry.
So, you're okay with it?
Absolutely not.
But like you said,
we're not married.
That's my fault.
Actions have consequences.
Actions?
I was married to my job.
Well, I hate to break
it to you, but your job
is still the other woman.
True.
But you're the main one.
You and Maddie.
So, you go out tonight
have fun.
Because you deserve it.
But just know this one thing
you and I haven't gone on
our last date together.

You have her home by 11:00.
