Christina in the Country (2023) s01e01 Episode Script
Taking on Tennessee
1
This is one I'm really
excited about.
- I'm Christina.
- Hi.
I've built a thriving design
business in California.
I'm so glad you love it.
And while the coast
is my first love,
the country has been
calling my name.
Feel like I'm in a dream.
It's time for a new adventure.
Are you designing
a chicken coop right now?
Yes.
- Time to expand the business.
- Along with my friends
and family, we're making
a move.
Spending more time
in Tennessee.
Come on, we're gonna be
best friends.
- Hi.
- I've got new clients.
It definitely is us.
New challenges.
What in the world is going on
back there?
And the same vision.
Welcome to your new kitchen.
[both] Oh, my gosh.
Create beautiful spaces
for families to call home.
It's like a five-star hotel.
This is crazy, man.
You did good.
- It's all coming into view.
- Hi.
- Yes!
- [toy squeaks]
I'm ready for
a whole new ride.
My heart's happy.
No worries in the world
Head first I'm diving in ♪
That donkey's gorgeous. Ah.
- Property is incredible.
- Oh, isn't it?
Nice little sunset ride
with my wife. I like it.
Weather's perfect.
Feel like I'm in a dream.
- You digging the country?
- I love the country.
Me and my horse over here
have the same hair.
You do? I couldn't tell if it's
the horse's mane or your mane.
I gave Fancy a braid.
You know, I never would
have taken you for a cow girl,
but I'm liking the look.
[Christina] I took horseback
riding lessons for a few years
from like eight to 10.
- Really?
- Yeah, it's so fun.
- I'll tell you, you were just a natural here.
- Oh, bye.
[laughs]
Up until now, Tennessee has
always been a quick getaway.
But with every trip, I'm just
loving it more and more.
And I'm always looking
for more reasons
to spend time here.
This literally feels
like heaven.
It's a little slice
of heaven for sure.
I could do this every day
for hours.
There's just something
so relaxing.
It's calming.
It's like good for the soul.
Your sister and Joel
are coming over tonight.
And I feel like it's a perfect
opportunity for us
to redo their house. She's always
complaining about their house.
Let's convince her and Joel
to be our first client
out here and then we can start
working out here
and be out here more.
I don't think it'll take
much convincing.
So we'll do hers first and
then we'll see how it goes
and then go from there.
- All right.
- Come on, Fancy.
Follow your man.
Joel, I need cheese.
Thank you.
Can you help me out? We're
just gonna melt a couple of these.
- We both know you can't cook.
- I can't cook?
I wanna see you out
here taking over.
Christina has got you
domesticated now.
I feel like we're always at
your house for everything.
My home is your home.
Thanks for that
by the way.
It's just so easy and stuff
for like the kids to run around,
to entertain people.
You have so much space here.
Well, we can make
yours like that.
- Totally down to help you.
- In my house?
- Yeah.
- I would absolutely love to open up the kitchen,
the living room and just kind
of do something like this.
So we can host like holidays
and parties.
I agree. Well, let's drop it
on the boys over burgers.
Let's see what they say.
But are you going to ask my
husband if we can renovate my house?
- I think you should.
- Oh, great.
Let's see how this goes.
So Stacie and I were
talking inside.
Joel Um
can we renovate our house?
She's right to
the point, I like it.
- Jeez, yeah.
- I mean, I like our house.
When we want to have a
barbecue or people at our house,
we always say we want to have
it at Josh and Christina's house.
Everything here just flows
so nice and just makes sense.
If they agree to help us,
would you do it?
Here's the rule though.
You're deciding everything,
I'm not deciding one thing.
Hey, I'm deciding nothing.
Christina and Josh
are deciding everything.
That means Christine is deciding
everything and I'm just high fiving her
when I think it looks good.
I mean our house is already
beautiful,
but it hasn't been updated
in about 20 years
and it could definitely use
a Christina style makeover.
I got one thing now.
I want one of those
Japanese toilets.
[all laughing]
- Yes!
- Hey, what is a Japanese toilet
- doing for you that I'm not?
- No, I mean, it's perfect.
It's like heated seats
and you push a button
and it does everything.
What's everything?
- I mean, it cleans up.
- Cleans up what?
[Christina] Joel.
Done deal. You can
have your Japanese toilet.
Hey, you guys could be
our first project.
100%, we are definitely in.
Cheers to a Japanese toilet.
- Japanese toilet.
- Whatever that is, I'm in. We're gonna make it happen.
Oh.
Hi.
Hello.
- Hello.
- Hello.
[Christina] Ready or not.
It's an older house.
We moved from Switzerland.
We bought this house fully
furnished.
We didn't bring anything
with us.
We kind of feel like we're
living in a vacation rental
'cause it's not our furniture.
It's not our style.
It doesn't really
match the house.
And wife doesn't like it.
So, happy wife, happy life.
Kind of seems like
the problem is me.
Well
It's not true?
I know that you guys
have never liked
the way the style is.
It's too dark.
But besides that,
let's talk a little bit about
what you wish that
it would look like.
Well, I think this room
definitely needs fixing.
I wonder if they designed this
to be like a dining room
or something? It just
doesn't make a lot of sense.
Probably the way it was.
You have built-ins, but this
is the biggest size TV
- you could actually fit in here.
- I know
and it fits like just right.
Oh, just right.
- [all laughing] - It kinda
looks a little odd in there.
- We know we need help.
- The cabinets,
they've definitely seen
better days.
Joel and Stacie's living room
has really nice high ceilings
and amazing natural light,
but the room is just too narrow
for their family's needs.
- Let's head into the kitchen.
- Okay.
The thing that is really
strange about the kitchen
is this post.
But because of that,
they had to do this, like,
really awkward Island.
The shape just
doesn't make a lot of sense.
I mean, doesn't that kind of
hold up the roof?
This is why
we need help.
Stacie, you go
for the kitchen
'cause this is a part of
the budget
Yeah, let's talk about
the kitchen.
This is the main point for me
that bothers me so much.
I would like a big,
massive island.
- Yeah.
- I guess I just want it to be like the focal point
of the house.
Like, when people come over,
everyone kind of hangs around
the island
and it's just kind
of like your spot.
I try.
I mean, I don't care about
the dining room table.
We don't need that.
I want a massive Island.
[Christina] Yeah,
so that's a great idea.
You can definitely carry
the entire kitchen
- into this room.
- [Stacie] Yeah.
The problem is it still leaves
you with an oddly small
family room for what,
a 6000-square-foot house?
- Yeah.
- We 100% need to start totally fresh.
I mean, I want people's
take away when
they leave our house
to say, like,
like, get in their cars and say, "Oh
my gosh, did you see their island?
It's so big."
I'm an island girl too.
- Don't you think?
- Okay.
Okay.
Hey, wait, you want
a Japanese toilet?
I can I can say an island.
That's a pretty basic thing
for a house.
So you're thinking
modern, farmhouse kitchen?
I think that'd be
a great idea.
I think light and bright
here is key.
It feels very dark.
I do too.
The floor and the cabinets
don't match.
I don't like either color, but
they just completely clash.
It's like a yellowy orange.
Yeah, it's like
leftover pieces,
they just throw
them all together.
Can't we just like sand down
and put on a new stain
or something?
Well, no, because
if we're talking about
taking down walls
and moving islands,
like, there's no way we're
keeping this where it's at.
And then you're talking about,
like, weaving in this floor
from, like, 20 years ago.
It'll always look mismatched.
I think the flooring
it's gotta go.
- Okay.
- Absolutely.
[Christina] Okay, let's go out
here for a second.
Do you guys use this?
- I mean, no.
- Ever?
No, do we use this?
I mean, no.
Where are we going
to sit outside then?
Do you guys use this?
I mean, no.
Well, where are we gonna
sit outside then?
Do you sit out here now
is my question.
- Not often.
- Okay.
If you're not sitting outside,
then it doesn't really matter.
It'd be really nice
to close this up,
do a little yard and then
create, like, a covered porch
in the front of the house.
That's a great idea.
That make you happy?
I mean, it makes me
very happy.
Is this your bedroom
right here?
Yeah.
- Oh.
- That's kind of my escape route.
Gosh, Joel.
I'm sure you can fit
through a window.
All right, let's go see
your room.
- Am I that bad?
- No.
- I gotta go get Audrey.
- Okay, so we can make decisions
- you're not here? Okay.
- Yes.
But don't go crazy.
Japanese toilet.
- Japanese toilet.
- I got you.
All right, we'll see you
in a few.
- See you guys.
- All right, this way.
And you lead the way.
- [Christina] Um, I have a question.
- [Stacie] What?
So you have a door there
that you don't use,
but you don't have
a door into your room?
You guys have no privacy
in here with these two kids.
No.
- Did you get a discount?
- No.
First order of business, we're
gonna make a nice door there.
This room is decorated
pretty good.
I like the light feature.
I like the bed.
It's just like everything
feels very stark.
I mean, there's just
no character to this room.
[Christina] Right.
Walking into here is like
walking straight back
- into the '90s.
- I didn't do it. This is how it came.
Here's my favorite door.
A door straight into
your makeup vanity?
[Josh] It has no stopper.
How is that not broken yet?
How have I never noticed that?
I love how Christina can just
pinpoint things like the door
runs into the vanity
and she's right.
I never, I never realized
that before.
But I knew it wasn't,
it wasn't right.
And Christina can fix
those things for me.
We need to figure out
a better configuration.
What irritates me is
the odd, angular shower
and then this tub taking up
way too much space
and then the angle
of your makeup vanity
is not functional at all,
due to the fact that
the door slams into it.
I would love to just totally
gut this entire thing.
Then you can have like a
really big, like, tranquil tub
in here with a huge shower.
- And the kids will love it.
- You can do that?
- Yes.
- Do you know who you're talking to here?
Nothing in here
will be half done.
So let's recap everything
that we're planning to do.
- Okay.
- This is gonna be a big project.
Do you know what your guys'
plan is as far as we're gonna go?
- Where we're gonna live?
- Yes.
We're gonna have
to move out, right?
The entire main floor is going
to be kind of a hot mess.
So, probably a good idea.
I'm moving.
So you get on that.
- Ah, look who's here.
- Hi, baby.
How was school, babe?
It's good. Sweet girl.
- Just in time.
- You made it back in perfect time, buddy.
- What did you do?
- You wanna say hi?
Don't worry.
Nothing's been spent yet.
You're fine. Audrey,
guess what Daddy wants?
A really cool toilet.
Let's think about that.
- So what do you want?
- A toilet that warms up his butt.
[all laughing]
Okay, so actually it's perfect
timing because
I was just gonna ask JC,
but now that you're here,
what are you guys thinking
you want to spend
as far as budget?
- I said 200.
- That's a good starting point, I think.
For sure, I think definitely
upwards of 200, but
- Oh, yeah.
- Let's not, let's not pick a number yet.
Let's get a bid,
but let's recap
what we're thinking.
So from the front
of the door in,
we're going to leave
the dining room and office,
but we're going to do
new flooring throughout.
We're going to redo the stairs
and all the flooring
on the first floor.
We're definitely gonna figure
out a new situation
in the living room as far
as the built-ins,
creating a super family room
and removing the outdoor patio
and creating one big space.
I would love to take down
these two pillars
in the kitchen and give you
a huge island in here.
Add a couple of wine fridges,
a beverage center
and just create
the party family home
that you guys deserve.
And we're not going to forget
your bedroom and bathroom.
[Josh] Perfect.
I think you guys need
a door on your bedroom.
Yeah, that would help.
- Sound good?
- Are you excited?
Yeah.
I love Christina's style.
I mean everything
that she does,
I've always really liked.
So we're excited, first house
that Christina is going to do
in the country.
- We got our work cut out for us.
- Yes.
Well, we know that Christina
will do a great job.
Our only concern
is probably what?
- Yeah, definitely Josh.
- Definitely Josh.
Come over later,
so you can hang out
at the comfortable house.
Thank you, guys.
I needed a break. Time for
a little snack.
You want pineapples
or strawberries?
I'll take this one.
Expanding the business into
Tennessee is a big undertaking
and I have to design
a whole new team.
Finding a contractor
in Tennessee
is one of the most important
things we need to do.
And Josh has a background
in real estate,
so I've asked for his help.
So I've got good news.
- Okay.
- I found not one contractor, but two.
Since we're gonna start
with Stacey,
I think I have the perfect fit
for her out of the two.
[Christina] Did they show you some
projects they've done in the past?
They did. They had
a whole photo book
of kitchens, bathrooms,
exteriors. They do it all.
That's exciting. Nice work.
When can they get started?
- ASAP.
- Cool.
- They're ready to go.
- That's what I like to hear.
- How exciting.
- Yeah,
- I think they're gonna be really good.
- Can't wait to go by.
You picked the wrong bowl.
This one's so good.
It's always a competition
with you, isn't it?
Now that we have a contractor
for Joel and Stacie's house,
our first project in Tennessee
has officially begun.
Joel and Stacie's project
is a pretty big project.
I'm hoping that it'll be done
in three to four months.
So in the meantime, they're
going to move into a rental property
in the neighborhood.
[Christina] Wow,
you guys got a lot done.
[Josh] Yeah, we got
our work cut out for us.
[Christina] Oh my gosh, it looks
so much better in here already.
Those columns gone,
the cabinets
So open.
And then what about this area
potentially opening, you know,
one of these walls up to
really expand the living room.
We got some heat from HOA
in the building code,
so we're probably not going
to be able to do the addition.
Yeah, we're familiar
with HOAs.
Well, they should be here
any minute and then Oh, hi.
- Hey.
- So what do you guys think?
- It doesn't look like the same house.
- We're doing this.
Now that everything's gone, we need
to talk about putting it back together.
[Christina] Before you have
this awkward island right here
in a really small kitchen
for this size house.
So the goal is to take
the kitchen and expand it
all the way into what was
your dining room.
So over here are plans
to take the wall back
and do a really nice built-in
refrigerator on this wall.
Over here, we're gonna have
uppers and lowers,
a ton of cabinetry,
tons of storage,
and then we'll have your
slide-in range with your hood.
You'll have a massive
island right here.
With a sink, microwave,
a dishwasher,
it's all gonna be facing out
this way.
And then on this wall, we have
two choices,
a full wall of cabinets
or we can do a wine wall.
- I can have that?
- Yes.
Now when people come in,
first thing you're gonna see
when you round the corner
is Stacie's wine wall.
Hey.
Okay, now we need to talk
about something important.
James was telling us that,
you know, we'd potentially
discussed opening up
one of these walls.
- And
- HOA
wouldn't allow us, without going through
some red tape, to do the addition
that we talked about
and open up that wall.
[Christina] I know the major
problem in this house for you guys
was the fact that
this is a big house,
but it's a very small
living area.
So now that it's all open,
knock this wall back,
it would be into your office
where the bookcase was, like,
how much more feet would
they get in the family room?
Six to eight feet.
That's so crazy, except that
we only could go this way
- to expand the room, but you feel that way.
- Right.
So if we can't go that way,
we might as well go this way.
Dude, my mind's blown.
So how much would that cost?
Looking about $10,000.
- So how much would that cost?
- Look about $10,000.
$10,000 isn't that much,
but I worry about these things
adding up quick.
It's like this and then that
and then this.
So we just have to keep it
under control.
Okay, that's a yes.
And then we can keep
the patio.
[Christina] Yeah, now
you can keep your patio.
So we're gonna do this.
- I love it.
- All right, let's go talk about your bedroom
- and bathroom.
- And my toilet.
And your toilet.
- Oh, my gosh.
- Oh, wow.
It's crazy.
- Joel, where you gonna pee?
- Yeah, I don't know.
I'm sure he could find
a place.
So you still have your his
and hers vanities.
Over here, we'll still have
the shower,
but it's gonna be bigger and
it's going to be a rectangle.
We'll do a nice,
standalone tub.
We'll still have Joel's toilet
area over there
except for it's gonna be
one of those fancy toilets.
It does everything
you want it to do.
That's what I'm talking about.
I guarantee both you guys
will get one when you're done.
Okay, so does
that sound good?
Sounds good.
Go
Best part about being in Tennessee
is having family out here as well.
[all cheering]
Anytime that we can get
the kids out here
for an extended weekend.
That's exactly what we do.
They always have a blast
playing with their cousins.
[all exclaiming]
What was that?
- I
- I don't know.
Audrey, did you know
they're this good?
Whoo!
- Oh, my
- Whatever.
Audrey. Good job, Stacie.
[all cheering]
Hell yeah, we're back.
What do you think
about those two floors?
In my opinion, as you're gonna
make the right decision.
But if I had to make it
I liked the one on the left.
- That one?
- Yep.
- Really?
- That's why I just tried to concede defeat in advance
- and just let you be right.
- We'll see.
- Ultimately, Stacie's the boss.
- Hello?
- Oh.
- Hi.
- Good timing.
- Oh, my gosh.
- Where's our house?
- Surprise.
Presenting materials
to clients isn't always
the easiest part of the job.
And because this is family,
this could go either way.
We have the whole
kitchen design.
So actually, Josh and I
disagreed about a choice.
Which flooring are each
of you drawn to?
We'll both point. Ready?
One, two, three, go.
Oh, no. Are you serious?
I don't like that at all.
[Christina] I truly thought you
were both gonna love this one.
- And you.
- [Stacie] So did I.
I feel like I liked that
a lot.
- It's more like
- Do you like that though?
Yeah, I do. It's more
California beach house
than Tennessee farmhouse.
-Well, we're going to turn
it into a Tennessee, -Okay.
- contemporary home.
- It looks good.
So
these are the cabinets
that I was thinking
for the perimeter,
but I think this can look
super cool if we do the island
in black.
- Oh.
- I love it. Do you?
- I like it.
- It's beautiful.
I like the black. It's more
manly with the feminine floors.
[all laughing]
This explains our
whole relationship.
- What?
- [Christina] Okay, let's keep moving.
This is frickin' beautiful.
You ready?
My idea would be to do
the countertop in this,
all the counters back here
and this and then also
carry this up the backsplash.
These are quartz.
So not only is this beautiful
and looks, like, really picturesque,
it's durable, I think it looks
totally, like, real marble,
but real marble's very porous,
and I don't recommend that.
So I think that looks awesome.
[Joel] I like it.
- [Josh] Perfect.
- Let's do it.
So then the next thing
you guys need to choose
is pull handles.
So there's three different
color options you can do.
A brushed nickel,
or you can do a brushed brass
or you could do black.
I mean, I liked the black
or the nickel.
- The other one.
- I liked the nickel.
Okay, nickel it is.
Come on, Joel,
show some enthusiasm.
- You love it.
- I love it.
For the wine wall, because you're
gonna be able to see through it
and behind the wine racks.
I would love to do
that whole wall in this.
- [Stacie] It's so fancy for us.
- She's kind of fancy.
Don't worry, we'll make sure
it's washable for Audrey
and Asher's markers.
Christina, you managed
to do all this?
I'm impressed and I can't
believe you did it with my brother.
I'm just happy
you have shoes on.
- Josh.
- You really took to the south well, I like it.
You do realize you're in
a construction site
and maybe some shoes?
[sighs]
Well, as simple Hey,
next time. You know what?
You aren't invited
or you for our design.
Why don't you guys go shop
for your Japanese toilet
and Stacie and I will
design the bathroom?
There we go.
All right, you know what?
You guys can finish this now.
Joel, let's just go find
some toilets now.
All right, I had a wine bar.
While Joel and Josh
are out shopping
for the perfect toilets.
Stacie and I are going to make
some big decisions regarding
bathroom design.
And honestly,
it's easier without
the boys around.
It's kind of nice
being alone with you.
- That's what I was thinking.
- I know, right?
I feel like I get like a blank
stare sometimes from Joel
and then I feel like Josh is like
hoping to pick what he wants.
So I kind of chose materials
that are similar
to the kitchen.
We have all white cabinets,
which I think in a bathroom
looks really beautiful, light
and bright, airy.
Oh my gosh,
that looks so pretty.
- Right?
- So we'll do this flooring.
We'll do the white cabinets.
And then for shower pan,
- you can have this.
- Oh, let's do a good visual for you
or you can have
Which one do you pick?
- Me too, then.
- I love a good herringbone,
- so that will look
- Oh, I love that.
I didn't realize how much
I was gonna love this.
What do you think those two
are picking right now?
Do you think he's like
gonna sit in all of them
and, like, press buttons?
I think. I think he's
always on the toilet.
He's all day long.
You can never find Joel.
All the kids,
"Where is Dad?
Check the bathroom."
I don't know if Christina
and Stacie know this,
but this is the most
important item in the house.
Let's find the toilet
you need then.
- Little narrow. Yeah.
- I like that you've got opinions.
- How's that one?
- This is a little better.
I mean, I'm just going
for the heated seat.
We'll find one
that works for you.
I mean most people go
to the bathroom to sit
and stink and I go to the
bathroom to sit and think.
This will be all of
the shower walls.
I love that.
[Christina] So this will
be going about eight feet up.
That's gonna look ridiculous.
And then the rest of the
floors will be that simple,
like, lightly marbled.
I love, like,
the clean contrast.
I mean, Joel wants his toilet.
I love a nice bathroom.
I love the bathtub.
I take a bath every night.
Okay, well, now you're gonna
have a nice, beautiful
pedestal bathtub. It's not gonna
be that awkward, like, spa tub.
It's gonna be incredible.
So, now the fun part.
There's two options
for pull handles
for the cabinets.
A normal brushed nickel,
or we have this option
which is pretty cool.
It's like a big crystal.
I think like people are
gonna remember this,
but, like, did you check
out her pull handles?
See? I agree.
This looks so beautiful.
Where does this go?
Here it goes,
yeah.
This is why you do this
and I don't.
- Done.
- Well, there you go.
[Stacie] I love that.

[Stacie] I think it's perfect.
And then we should make this
a really cool accent feature.
Yeah, we could do a really
pretty accent color
going all the way up
to the ceiling.
If we throw in a stone
and I definitely recommend
-doing a mantel especially
for stockings -Oh, yeah.
- and everything.

Okay, good.
Now we just need to decide
what type of pull handle

We could do black.
We could do brass.
We could do big,
we could do medium size.
I don't know why,
but pull handles give me
the worst anxiety.

- Through the whole house.
- Why?
- It's the one thing that stresses me out.
I would do this one.

Oh, just right.
- [all laughing] - It kinda
looks a little odd in there.
- We know we need help.
- The cabinets,
they've definitely seen
better days.
Joel and Stacie's living room
has really nice high ceilings
and amazing natural light,
but the room is just too narrow
for their family's needs.
- Let's head into the kitchen.
- Okay.
The thing that is really
strange about the kitchen
is this post.
But because of that,
they had to do this, like,
really awkward Island.
The shape just
doesn't make a lot of sense.
I mean, doesn't that kind of
hold up the roof?
This is why
we need help.
Stacie, you go
for the kitchen
'cause this is a part of
the budget
Yeah, let's talk about
the kitchen.
This is the main point for me
that bothers me so much.
I would like a big,
massive island.
- Yeah.
- I guess I just want it to be like the focal point
of the house.
Like, when people come over,
everyone kind of hangs around
the island
and it's just kind
of like your spot.
I try.
I mean, I don't care about
the dining room table.
We don't need that.
I want a massive Island.
[Christina] Yeah,
so that's a great idea.
You can definitely carry
the entire kitchen
- into this room.
- [Stacie] Yeah.
The problem is it still leaves
you with an oddly small
family room for what,
a 6000-square-foot house?
- Yeah.
- We 100% need to start totally fresh.
I mean, I want people's
take away when
they leave our house
to say, like,
like, get in their cars and say, "Oh
my gosh, did you see their island?
It's so big."
I'm an island girl too.
- Don't you think?
- Okay.
Okay.
Hey, wait, you want
a Japanese toilet?
I can I can say an island.
That's a pretty basic thing
for a house.
So you're thinking
modern, farmhouse kitchen?
I think that'd be
a great idea.
I think light and bright
here is key.
It feels very dark.
I do too.
The floor and the cabinets
don't match.
I don't like either color, but
they just completely clash.
It's like a yellowy orange.
Yeah, it's like
leftover pieces,
they just throw
them all together.
Can't we just like sand down
and put on a new stain
or something?
Well, no, because
if we're talking about
taking down walls
and moving islands,
like, there's no way we're
keeping this where it's at.
And then you're talking about,
like, weaving in this floor
from, like, 20 years ago.
It'll always look mismatched.
I think the flooring
it's gotta go.
- Okay.
- Absolutely.
[Christina] Okay, let's go out
here for a second.
Do you guys use this?
- I mean, no.
- Ever?
No, do we use this?
I mean, no.
Where are we going
to sit outside then?
Do you guys use this?
I mean, no.
Well, where are we gonna
sit outside then?
Do you sit out here now
is my question.
- Not often.
- Okay.
If you're not sitting outside,
then it doesn't really matter.
It'd be really nice
to close this up,
do a little yard and then
create, like, a covered porch
in the front of the house.
That's a great idea.
That make you happy?
I mean, it makes me
very happy.
Is this your bedroom
right here?
Yeah.
- Oh.
- That's kind of my escape route.
Gosh, Joel.
I'm sure you can fit
through a window.
All right, let's go see
your room.
- Am I that bad?
- No.
- I gotta go get Audrey.
- Okay, so we can make decisions
- you're not here? Okay.
- Yes.
But don't go crazy.
Japanese toilet.
- Japanese toilet.
- I got you.
All right, we'll see you
in a few.
- See you guys.
- All right, this way.
And you lead the way.
- [Christina] Um, I have a question.
- [Stacie] What?
So you have a door there
that you don't use,
but you don't have
a door into your room?
You guys have no privacy
in here with these two kids.
No.
- Did you get a discount?
- No.
First order of business, we're
gonna make a nice door there.
This room is decorated
pretty good.
I like the light feature.
I like the bed.
It's just like everything
feels very stark.
I mean, there's just
no character to this room.
[Christina] Right.
Walking into here is like
walking straight back
- into the '90s.
- I didn't do it. This is how it came.
Here's my favorite door.
A door straight into
your makeup vanity?
[Josh] It has no stopper.
How is that not broken yet?
How have I never noticed that?
I love how Christina can just
pinpoint things like the door
runs into the vanity
and she's right.
I never, I never realized
that before.
But I knew it wasn't,
it wasn't right.
And Christina can fix
those things for me.
We need to figure out
a better configuration.
What irritates me is
the odd, angular shower
and then this tub taking up
way too much space
and then the angle
of your makeup vanity
is not functional at all,
due to the fact that
the door slams into it.
I would love to just totally
gut this entire thing.
Then you can have like a
really big, like, tranquil tub
in here with a huge shower.
- And the kids will love it.
- You can do that?
- Yes.
- Do you know who you're talking to here?
Nothing in here
will be half done.
So let's recap everything
that we're planning to do.
- Okay.
- This is gonna be a big project.
Do you know what your guys'
plan is as far as we're gonna go?
- Where we're gonna live?
- Yes.
We're gonna have
to move out, right?
The entire main floor is going
to be kind of a hot mess.
So, probably a good idea.
I'm moving.
So you get on that.
- Ah, look who's here.
- Hi, baby.
How was school, babe?
It's good. Sweet girl.
- Just in time.
- You made it back in perfect time, buddy.
- What did you do?
- You wanna say hi?
Don't worry.
Nothing's been spent yet.
You're fine. Audrey,
guess what Daddy wants?
A really cool toilet.
Let's think about that.
- So what do you want?
- A toilet that warms up his butt.
[all laughing]
Okay, so actually it's perfect
timing because
I was just gonna ask JC,
but now that you're here,
what are you guys thinking
you want to spend
as far as budget?
- I said 200.
- That's a good starting point, I think.
For sure, I think definitely
upwards of 200, but
- Oh, yeah.
- Let's not, let's not pick a number yet.
Let's get a bid,
but let's recap
what we're thinking.
So from the front
of the door in,
we're going to leave
the dining room and office,
but we're going to do
new flooring throughout.
We're going to redo the stairs
and all the flooring
on the first floor.
We're definitely gonna figure
out a new situation
in the living room as far
as the built-ins,
creating a super family room
and removing the outdoor patio
and creating one big space.
I would love to take down
these two pillars
in the kitchen and give you
a huge island in here.
Add a couple of wine fridges,
a beverage center
and just create
the party family home
that you guys deserve.
And we're not going to forget
your bedroom and bathroom.
[Josh] Perfect.
I think you guys need
a door on your bedroom.
Yeah, that would help.
- Sound good?
- Are you excited?
Yeah.
I love Christina's style.
I mean everything
that she does,
I've always really liked.
So we're excited, first house
that Christina is going to do
in the country.
- We got our work cut out for us.
- Yes.
Well, we know that Christina
will do a great job.
Our only concern
is probably what?
- Yeah, definitely Josh.
- Definitely Josh.
Come over later,
so you can hang out
at the comfortable house.
Thank you, guys.
I needed a break. Time for
a little snack.
You want pineapples
or strawberries?
I'll take this one.
Expanding the business into
Tennessee is a big undertaking
and I have to design
a whole new team.
Finding a contractor
in Tennessee
is one of the most important
things we need to do.
And Josh has a background
in real estate,
so I've asked for his help.
So I've got good news.
- Okay.
- I found not one contractor, but two.
Since we're gonna start
with Stacey,
I think I have the perfect fit
for her out of the two.
[Christina] Did they show you some
projects they've done in the past?
They did. They had
a whole photo book
of kitchens, bathrooms,
exteriors. They do it all.
That's exciting. Nice work.
When can they get started?
- ASAP.
- Cool.
- They're ready to go.
- That's what I like to hear.
- How exciting.
- Yeah,
- I think they're gonna be really good.
- Can't wait to go by.
You picked the wrong bowl.
This one's so good.
It's always a competition
with you, isn't it?
Now that we have a contractor
for Joel and Stacie's house,
our first project in Tennessee
has officially begun.
Joel and Stacie's project
is a pretty big project.
I'm hoping that it'll be done
in three to four months.
So in the meantime, they're
going to move into a rental property
in the neighborhood.
[Christina] Wow,
you guys got a lot done.
[Josh] Yeah, we got
our work cut out for us.
[Christina] Oh my gosh, it looks
so much better in here already.
Those columns gone,
the cabinets
So open.
And then what about this area
potentially opening, you know,
one of these walls up to
really expand the living room.
We got some heat from HOA
in the building code,
so we're probably not going
to be able to do the addition.
Yeah, we're familiar
with HOAs.
Well, they should be here
any minute and then Oh, hi.
- Hey.
- So what do you guys think?
- It doesn't look like the same house.
- We're doing this.
Now that everything's gone, we need
to talk about putting it back together.
[Christina] Before you have
this awkward island right here
in a really small kitchen
for this size house.
So the goal is to take
the kitchen and expand it
all the way into what was
your dining room.
So over here are plans
to take the wall back
and do a really nice built-in
refrigerator on this wall.
Over here, we're gonna have
uppers and lowers,
a ton of cabinetry,
tons of storage,
and then we'll have your
slide-in range with your hood.
You'll have a massive
island right here.
With a sink, microwave,
a dishwasher,
it's all gonna be facing out
this way.
And then on this wall, we have
two choices,
a full wall of cabinets
or we can do a wine wall.
- I can have that?
- Yes.
Now when people come in,
first thing you're gonna see
when you round the corner
is Stacie's wine wall.
Hey.
Okay, now we need to talk
about something important.
James was telling us that,
you know, we'd potentially
discussed opening up
one of these walls.
- And
- HOA
wouldn't allow us, without going through
some red tape, to do the addition
that we talked about
and open up that wall.
[Christina] I know the major
problem in this house for you guys
was the fact that
this is a big house,
but it's a very small
living area.
So now that it's all open,
knock this wall back,
it would be into your office
where the bookcase was, like,
how much more feet would
they get in the family room?
Six to eight feet.
That's so crazy, except that
we only could go this way
- to expand the room, but you feel that way.
- Right.
So if we can't go that way,
we might as well go this way.
Dude, my mind's blown.
So how much would that cost?
Looking about $10,000.
- So how much would that cost?
- Look about $10,000.
$10,000 isn't that much,
but I worry about these things
adding up quick.
It's like this and then that
and then this.
So we just have to keep it
under control.
Okay, that's a yes.
And then we can keep
the patio.
[Christina] Yeah, now
you can keep your patio.
So we're gonna do this.
- I love it.
- All right, let's go talk about your bedroom
- and bathroom.
- And my toilet.
And your toilet.
- Oh, my gosh.
- Oh, wow.
It's crazy.
- Joel, where you gonna pee?
- Yeah, I don't know.
I'm sure he could find
a place.
So you still have your his
and hers vanities.
Over here, we'll still have
the shower,
but it's gonna be bigger and
it's going to be a rectangle.
We'll do a nice,
standalone tub.
We'll still have Joel's toilet
area over there
except for it's gonna be
one of those fancy toilets.
It does everything
you want it to do.
That's what I'm talking about.
I guarantee both you guys
will get one when you're done.
Okay, so does
that sound good?
Sounds good.
Go
Best part about being in Tennessee
is having family out here as well.
[all cheering]
Anytime that we can get
the kids out here
for an extended weekend.
That's exactly what we do.
They always have a blast
playing with their cousins.
[all exclaiming]
What was that?
- I
- I don't know.
Audrey, did you know
they're this good?
Whoo!
- Oh, my
- Whatever.
Audrey. Good job, Stacie.
[all cheering]
Hell yeah, we're back.
What do you think
about those two floors?
In my opinion, as you're gonna
make the right decision.
But if I had to make it
I liked the one on the left.
- That one?
- Yep.
- Really?
- That's why I just tried to concede defeat in advance
- and just let you be right.
- We'll see.
- Ultimately, Stacie's the boss.
- Hello?
- Oh.
- Hi.
- Good timing.
- Oh, my gosh.
- Where's our house?
- Surprise.
Presenting materials
to clients isn't always
the easiest part of the job.
And because this is family,
this could go either way.
We have the whole
kitchen design.
So actually, Josh and I
disagreed about a choice.
Which flooring are each
of you drawn to?
We'll both point. Ready?
One, two, three, go.
Oh, no. Are you serious?
I don't like that at all.
[Christina] I truly thought you
were both gonna love this one.
- And you.
- [Stacie] So did I.
I feel like I liked that
a lot.
- It's more like
- Do you like that though?
Yeah, I do. It's more
California beach house
than Tennessee farmhouse.
-Well, we're going to turn
it into a Tennessee, -Okay.
- contemporary home.
- It looks good.
So
these are the cabinets
that I was thinking
for the perimeter,
but I think this can look
super cool if we do the island
in black.
- Oh.
- I love it. Do you?
- I like it.
- It's beautiful.
I like the black. It's more
manly with the feminine floors.
[all laughing]
This explains our
whole relationship.
- What?
- [Christina] Okay, let's keep moving.
This is frickin' beautiful.
You ready?
My idea would be to do
the countertop in this,
all the counters back here
and this and then also
carry this up the backsplash.
These are quartz.
So not only is this beautiful
and looks, like, really picturesque,
it's durable, I think it looks
totally, like, real marble,
but real marble's very porous,
and I don't recommend that.
So I think that looks awesome.
[Joel] I like it.
- [Josh] Perfect.
- Let's do it.
So then the next thing
you guys need to choose
is pull handles.
So there's three different
color options you can do.
A brushed nickel,
or you can do a brushed brass
or you could do black.
I mean, I liked the black
or the nickel.
- The other one.
- I liked the nickel.
Okay, nickel it is.
Come on, Joel,
show some enthusiasm.
- You love it.
- I love it.
For the wine wall, because you're
gonna be able to see through it
and behind the wine racks.
I would love to do
that whole wall in this.
- [Stacie] It's so fancy for us.
- She's kind of fancy.
Don't worry, we'll make sure
it's washable for Audrey
and Asher's markers.
Christina, you managed
to do all this?
I'm impressed and I can't
believe you did it with my brother.
I'm just happy
you have shoes on.
- Josh.
- You really took to the south well, I like it.
You do realize you're in
a construction site
and maybe some shoes?
[sighs]
Well, as simple Hey,
next time. You know what?
You aren't invited
or you for our design.
Why don't you guys go shop
for your Japanese toilet
and Stacie and I will
design the bathroom?
There we go.
All right, you know what?
You guys can finish this now.
Joel, let's just go find
some toilets now.
All right, I had a wine bar.
While Joel and Josh
are out shopping
for the perfect toilets.
Stacie and I are going to make
some big decisions regarding
bathroom design.
And honestly,
it's easier without
the boys around.
It's kind of nice
being alone with you.
- That's what I was thinking.
- I know, right?
I feel like I get like a blank
stare sometimes from Joel
and then I feel like Josh is like
hoping to pick what he wants.
So I kind of chose materials
that are similar
to the kitchen.
We have all white cabinets,
which I think in a bathroom
looks really beautiful, light
and bright, airy.
Oh my gosh,
that looks so pretty.
- Right?
- So we'll do this flooring.
We'll do the white cabinets.
And then for shower pan,
- you can have this.
- Oh, let's do a good visual for you
or you can have
Which one do you pick?
- Me too, then.
- I love a good herringbone,
- so that will look
- Oh, I love that.
I didn't realize how much
I was gonna love this.
What do you think those two
are picking right now?
Do you think he's like
gonna sit in all of them
and, like, press buttons?
I think. I think he's
always on the toilet.
He's all day long.
You can never find Joel.
All the kids,
"Where is Dad?
Check the bathroom."
I don't know if Christina
and Stacie know this,
but this is the most
important item in the house.
Let's find the toilet
you need then.
- Little narrow. Yeah.
- I like that you've got opinions.
- How's that one?
- This is a little better.
I mean, I'm just going
for the heated seat.
We'll find one
that works for you.
I mean most people go
to the bathroom to sit
and stink and I go to the
bathroom to sit and think.
This will be all of
the shower walls.
I love that.
[Christina] So this will
be going about eight feet up.
That's gonna look ridiculous.
And then the rest of the
floors will be that simple,
like, lightly marbled.
I love, like,
the clean contrast.
I mean, Joel wants his toilet.
I love a nice bathroom.
I love the bathtub.
I take a bath every night.
Okay, well, now you're gonna
have a nice, beautiful
pedestal bathtub. It's not gonna
be that awkward, like, spa tub.
It's gonna be incredible.
So, now the fun part.
There's two options
for pull handles
for the cabinets.
A normal brushed nickel,
or we have this option
which is pretty cool.
It's like a big crystal.
I think like people are
gonna remember this,
but, like, did you check
out her pull handles?
See? I agree.
This looks so beautiful.
Where does this go?
Here it goes,
yeah.
This is why you do this
and I don't.
- Done.
- Well, there you go.
[Stacie] I love that.
Watch this.
Open sesame. Have a seat.
[Joel] This is what
I'm talking about.
Yeah. All right.
You got to see some
of these features.
You have the spraying option,
you have the heated option,
- you have the deodorizer.
- Wow, you really know these.
Yeah, looks like you have
a drying system.
So, I mean the Japanese
are years ahead of us.
This is it.
So you're loving this toilet?
This is the move.
What is
- Well
- That did it.
[both laugh]
- Give me that thing.
- My mistake.
Man, I didn't think that thing
was going to spray this intense.
Look at my sleeve.
Yeah, I got a little bit
of water on my butt.
Yeah, it'll dry. Let's get
this thing ordered.
I can't believe this.
This is crazy.
It's so much lighter
and brighter.
The flooring made
the hugest difference in here.
It has like this
Country Chic vibe now.
- It does, right?
- Yeah.
This will all be
lower cabinets,
which is awesome for games,
all the kids toys.
It'll have a ton of storage.
We should put the TV
right here
and then you could have
a large sofa or sectional
on this wall. I feel like this
looks huge over here now.
[Stacie] I think it's perfect.
And then we should make this
a really cool accent feature.
Yeah, we could do a really
pretty accent color
going all the way up
to the ceiling.
If we throw in a stone
and I definitely recommend
-doing a mantel especially
for stockings -Oh, yeah.
- and everything.
- For sure.
[sighs] We're looking at like,
an extra probably, like,
- 5500. Yeah.
- For all that?
- For stone?
- Yeah.
Should we do it?
I think it'll really look
absolutely beautiful in here.
Okay, let's do it.
Okay. Joel will be cool
with it?
- Just don't tell him.
- He probably won't even notice.
He just wants a nice house.
I know that.
Like, those little touches
like the wine wall
and the stone here will
make it feel really custom.
[Stacie] Okay.
And then we'll have
the floating shelves
and those we have to decorate
with pictures and plants.
- Oh.
- Crystals and candles.
Oh, wonderful.
No, that's exciting.
I love that idea.
We're gonna put poofs
everywhere.
- What's a poof?
- Oh, you'll see.
Just tell Joel it was
all your idea.
Done.
All right.
It's looking beautiful.
- Hey, girl.
- Hey.
I have some samples for you.
Oh, I can't wait.
You can just look at 'em
right here.
- Perfect.
- Let's go,
we have two choices to make.
One is the cabinets,
the new built-ins
where, you know,
- the TV area is going to be.
- Okay.
And then the next thing
is the fireplace.
- Okay.
- So we have three options.
We can do white,
or we could do black
or we could do something
totally different
- and do a white oak.
- Ooh, I like that one.
- Right?
- I want this one.
Okay, good.
Now we just need to decide
what type of pull handle
you want to go with.
We could do black.
We could do brass.
We could do big,
we could do medium size.
I don't know why,
but pull handles give me
the worst anxiety.
- Really?
- Through the whole house.
- Why?
- It's the one thing that stresses me out.
I would do this one.
- That's what I was thinking.
- Okay, good.
Because I feel like this one
has almost like a touch
of, like, a country vibe too
that's gonna look really pretty
with whatever you choose
for the fireplace.
- Okay.
- It's a little, like, masculine.
- Oh, I love this.
- Me too.
- That's so pretty.
- What color is that?
- Is that gold?
- Brass.
- Oh, it's brass.
- Brass.
- I like it. Brass.
- Okay, perfect.
- Okay, so that's our look.
- Yeah, that's it.
Okay, so good.
Fireplace stone.
Oh, gosh.
This one's kind of like,
it's, like, a hint of gray.
- I love that.
- This one's a little more cement.
And this one has
more of a cream.
Okay, so this is
definitely no.
Okay, good. I agree.
Too dark.
This is a little more gray.
A little more cooler tone.
This one's a little more
beige, a little more warm.
I'm obsessed with this.
I love this.
Okay, cool.
- Think Joel will like it?
- So this is it.
I mean, yeah, Joel
will like anything we like.
I will get these ordered.
- It's nice business doing with you.
- Always.
- Appreciate it.
- Come on by later.
- See you around.
- Love you.
[Stacie] We are so excited
about our house,
so we are taking Josh
and Christina out
to dinner tonight.
Just to say thank you
for everything
and that we're so excited
that they're here in Tennessee,
and we'll get to spend
more time with them.
Thank you.
How have we been here twice
and you haven't?
Yes, you guys are way cooler
than me, I already know.
When your husband gets here,
I'm going to tell him
that he needs to take you
on a date night here.
I've learned date nights
are very important.
They are important
especially when you have kids.
- It's so important.
- She took the words right out of my mouth.
Maybe we're related.
Oh.
- What's up?
- 'Scuse me.
- Hey, babe.
- How's it going?
Well, thanks for showing up.
- All right, cheers.
- Cheers to the house
and you guys helping us
so much.
- We appreciate it.
- Hey.
Good cheers, buddy.
And so we're almost done.
We're getting close.
James, who is
my design partner,
you guys will love him.
He's flying out, he's gonna
help do the finishing touches.
Over the years, James
and I have become very close
and he is my true
design partner.
We'd love for James to help in
