Honest Renovations (2023) s01e01 Episode Script
Cooking for Six
-I'm Jessica. -I'm Lizzy.
And this is
Yay!
[Jessica]
-[both chuckle] -Basically.
[Lizzy]
is parenting can be tough at
every stage of the game.
There's a lot of yelling, and
we've never been
like a yelling type of house.
[Jessica]
that you got this, you're, like,
"Yes, I got this today."
-[child exclaims] -Boom! You
don't.
-[baby crying] -Oh
[Lizzy]
[man] We started demolition--
-Before Emma came. -[man] Yeah.
-And then Emma came. -[both]
Ahhh
I feel defeated as a working
single mom.
I don't know who said babies
don't need a lot of space.
Your family grows.
-Your family changes. -That's
right.
[Jessica]
Inevitably, you're gonna hit a
breaking point.
Every day, I feel like I'm
failing.
[Wilson] It looks like a
junkyard.
It's an organizational thing,
too. Right.
Where things are, where we put
things.
-We could help with that.
-[Wilson] Right.
[Jessica]
can make a massive difference in
your parenting life.
[Jessica] These are all the
healthy snacks
we kind of put at the bottom.
What a cool little hack.
This is a mom hack.
You don't want to go in the
nursery
every time you change the baby.
With changing these homes,
-Welcome home. -[family gasps]
Oh, my gosh!
Thank you for seeing us.
What? Are you kidding me?
I'm gonna cry.
[woman 1]
[woman 2]
You needed to be celebrated.
[Elliana kissing baby]
-What are you doing? -Ready?
-[Elliana] Yeah. -[John] Yeah,
go!
[John chuckles]
[Elliana] Let's see a 360.
[Elliana] Whoo!
-I'm John Mielkus. -I'm Elliana
Mielkus.
And we live in Castaic,
California.
[John]
for about a year and a half.
[Elliana]
after moving in to our house.
Oh, the little bean.
Is that two in there?
Is that two in there?
No, it's not.
Nope.
[Elliana tearfully laughing]
We're having twins.
I think I need a drink.
That in a very tiny home doesn't
work.
-[John] Baby. -[Elliana] Baby.
[John] Do you remember how to
slide it in there?
-[Elliana] Uh-oh! -[John laughs]
The kids don't realize the space
is that small,
And it's definitely a struggle.
[Elliana]
We're all on top of each other.
[■■■]
-[Elliana makes chomping sound]
-[baby giggles]
[baby gurgling]
[Elliana] Someone's at the door.
-[John] Oh, hi! -Hi!
-[Lizzy] Hello! -Hi!
[Elliana] Say hi!
Oh, you're so in it right now.
[Rylie] Hi, I'm Rylie.
Hi. Nice to meet you.
-Hi, I'm Jessica. -[Tucker] Hi.
-Hi, Tucker. -Hi.
I'm Lizzy. Nice to meet you.
Hi, Levi.
[Elliana] And this is Dusty.
Oh, hi, Dusty.
[Lizzy] Hello!
Family's always been super
important to me.
I come from a huge family
and always wanted a huge family
and suckered this guy
So strong.
Do they have anything that tells
them apart?
-Like what is the? -He has
one little scar
on his right cheek-- it's been
-our little cheat sheet.
-[laughter]
The Mielkuses are the sweetest
little family.
-I mean -They're not very
little.
-They're not a little family.
-They're big.
-This is a big family. -Big
family.
-In a small space. -Yeah.
-Were they a surprise? -Yeah.
-[laughs] -[Elliana] One of them
was.
-[John] For me they were, yeah.
-One was a surprise.
We were going for one more, and
then, boom, twins hit.
-[John] And then twins.
-[Elliana] We got a two-fer.
-This is great though. -Yeah,
this is legit.
Took up the living room, but it
was totally worth it.
Well, yeah, so you don't have to
worry.
Question. Do you break this down
at night?
[Elliana]
-[Jessica]-[John]
[Elliana]
to the side just to give us a
little more room at the couch.
[Lizzy]
-[Elliana]
-[John]
[Lizzy]
So, is this the normal routine?
You taking care of the babies
while Dad's on big kid duty?
-[John] Yeah. -[Elliana] When
he's home.
Yeah, when he's home.
Being married to a firefighter
is really difficult.
It's hard to find that balance
between letting him rest and
trying to get him
to parent with me since he is
gone for so long.
And it gets really difficult
having to take on
the role of two as one.
What's your work schedule?
Usually, I work two days
and then have four days off, but
it's not always like that.
I have to work other days.
Like, I was just gone for four
days.
-[Lizzy] Wow. -I'm home for two,
and then I go back for another
four days.
-So, I'm gone. -[Lizzy] And when
he's gone,
you are managing single mom, all
the ones.
She's cooking, cleaning,
shuffling around with school
and other places that the kids
need to be.
-And it's a lot. -I have
firefighters
-in my family. -Same.
-And they are amazing cooks
-[Lizzy] Mm-hmm.
and they're gone for stretches
of time.
And are they sleeping through
the night yet?
-No. -Are the older two
helpful with the younger two?
Yes. I have a little second mom
over there.
-Hey, Rylie. -[Elliana] She's
fantastic.
Tucker and Rylie, come talk to
us.
Sit down, sit down, sit down.
What do you guys love to do most
in this space?
I like to play outside.
-Oh, you like to play outside?
-You like to play outside?
I like to go on my skateboard.
-You do? -Oh, you do?
In here, I like to do, like,
art.
[Tucker] Yeah, me, too.
It's gonna be a challenge.
Listen, you know, this is
a smaller space for four people,
or for six-- for six.
[gasps] Oh, my God, it's six of
them.
[Jessica]
that are appropriate for
everyone,
-[Lizzy]
What would you guys want out of
this space?
This is my favorite,
lighting a fire and just sitting
here
-and relaxing is like
-[Lizzy] Oh, I love that.
-Cozy fireplace. -[Elliana]
Second it gets cold,
-there's a fire on constantly.
-Okay.
I love that. Do you like how it
looks now
or are you open to switching it
up a little bit?
[Elliana]
So, you prefer the brick look.
And then what is the vibe?
Like, what's your aesthetic?
I don't know if we, like, truly
have an "aesthetic".
[Jessica] Do you like modern?
-Do you like mid-century?
-[Lizzy] Farmhouse?
[Elliana] I think it's more like
a rustic farmhouse.
-Yeah, for sure. That's -[all
agreeing]
-Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.
-[Lizzy] Yes. Yes.
Yes. That, that.
[Jessica]
-[John]
[Elliana] It's prep space,
dinner space, homework space.
-Okay. -Family entertainment
space.
-[Elliana] Highchair space.
-[John] Yeah.
Highchair space, right.
What do you say that you guys
are needing the most?
Storage is our main thing.
A lot of the stuff ends up just
sitting on the counter.
Nothing really has a home.
-[Lizzy] I see, I see.
-[Jessica] Okay.
Let's take a look in the
kitchen.
[Elliana]
[Lizzy]
Yeah, I used to cook a lot.
[John]
-[Lizzy and
Jessica]
-There is really no storage.
-[John] No.
It used to be, when I had a
place to cook,
or there was room to cook,
that was kind of my de-stressor.
we haven't had a real kitchen to
cook in.
Whoo. I had him.
-[John] Losing babies.
-[laughter]
-I was, like Mmm. -[John]
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[laughter]
Okay, so from what we
understand,
John likes to cook. You like to
bake.
I do. I love to bake.
That's, like, my release.
So, is this your prep station
over here for all your baking?
-[Elliana]
-[Lizzy]
I use it for all of our bills
and schoolwork for the little
one.
-Do they stand up and use it?
-We have a chair,
or we'll grab one of the stools
that we'll throw over here.
-We've made it work. -Looks like
you've made
-a lot work in this space.
-Yeah.
[Lizzy] I mean, honestly, it's
pretty remarkable.
[■■■]
Is there any way for us to see
this magnificent outside space
that Rylie and Tucker love to
use?
-[Rylie] Yes. -Yes?
All right. So, this is the
backyard.
What? What happened?
[Lizzy] What happened?
[■■■]
All right. So, this is the
backyard.
What? What happened?
-[John laughs] -[Lizzy] What
happened?
[Jessica] What was it?
This was completely enclosed.
-So, this patio-- -Oh, this was
enclosed.
This was completely enclosed
when we bought the house.
[Jessica] Oh, no way.
[John] And it was not in good
shape.
[Lizzy] Okay. I see what you did
there.
-[John] Yeah. -I see what you
did there.
-[John] Yeah. -[Jessica] Okay.
And you're definitely looking
for an open or open feel, right?
[John] Yes. Yeah. We didn't want
it completely--
We didn't wanna enclose it the
way it was.
So, your dogs can't come back
here.
-[John] Nope. -[Elliana] No.
Your children can't come back
here.
-[John] Nope. -[Elliana]
Definitely not.
Windows, doors, wood, all the
things are out there.
-All here, wow. -[John] Yes.
Okay.
[■■■]
Wait, wait, wait, over there in
the corner
[Lizzy laughs] Oh!
there's a-- there's a
succulent in a toilet.
[John] That was a joke.
[Lizzy] I gotta go take a look
at this.
[John] I thought it was funny.
[Lizzy] I gotta see this little
up close and personal.
[Jessica] Whoa, you filled it
with rocks and everything.
-Oh, yeah. -[Lizzy] You went all
in
on the creativity here.
One of the most sustainable
things
-you can do -You tell 'em,
Jess.
when you're renovating any
space
Let 'em know.
is to upcycle.
-That's right. -Reuse.
Yes.
That's fascinating. That's
absolutely fascinating.
[Jessica]
-But they had, like -I just
think that the dad
-that wild -got in over
his head.
-situation. -[Lizzy] And they
couldn't.
They couldn't get themselves
out.
-It's very artistic. -That's
very creative.
[Lizzy] You could sell those.
Like when you're in too deep,
and you're just, like,
"I can't quite" Like that?
-All that. -Okay.
-[both laughing] -What she said.
If you could envision your space
to be anything out here, what
would it be?
Definitely functional for the
kids and the family.
And then I would love to be able
to have an outdoor space
where I could cook and do stuff
out here, too.
-[Lizzy] Mm-hmm. -That way the
kids could play.
We could have people over and
actually be happy
to have people in our backyard.
-Entertain. -You want to
entertain?
-[John] Yes. -[Elliana] And then
I always
wanted to put, like, a little
playground or something
-over there for the kids.
-[whispers] Yes, I agree.
[overlapping hushed conversation
to the baby]
[Elliana] You want to go see
'em?
-Hi. -You want to go say hi?
-Can we? Can I? Can we?
-[Jessica] Hi.
Oh, my goodness, hello!
[Lizzy]
You were afraid of holding-- You
don't really like babies.
You know what it is? No, I love
babies.
You don't really like babies.
No, are you kidding--
[Lizzy]
[Jessica]
[Lizzy]
I think they can sense my
nervousness.
He's, like, "I'm done." I feel
it. I feel it.
I know, he got nervous. I got
nervous.
[both babble baby noises]
[Jessica] So, I feel like we
have a pretty good idea.
-Clear her out. -Let's do this.
-[Lizzy exclaims] -I'm excited.
I'm excited, too. It's gonna be
so good.
[Lizzy] It's gonna be so much
fun.
Elliana obviously is holding
down the home
while he's away working all
week,
I feel like we are gonna change
her life for the better.
-I agree. -I mean, just like
making
the space work for her and the
kids.
[Jessica]
[John] This is insane.
It's amazing.
The Mielkus family, so this is
our big family.
They are a family of six.
[Jessica] So, I think we need to
figure out
how to give them storage, usable
space.
[Jessica]
And the
It would also really be nice
to try and separate these
spaces.
Not necessarily a wall, but
definitely give,
like this is the kitchen, and
this is the living room.
-Right. -So, let's take out
[Lizzy]
Just inside their home is about
1,000 square feet.
Outside is 800 square feet.
[Lizzy]
[Jessica]
You're gonna make Tucker so mad.
No. He gets a whole playset.
The babies aren't gonna play on
the play--
-You're gonna make Tucker mad.
-That's not true.
Tucker's gonna bring that smoke
on you.
-No, he isn't. -Daddy gonna have
to put it out.
His dad's gonna put out that
smoke on you.
Fine. It'll be for both of them.
-[drill whirrs] -Whoa! Jesus!
[Lizzy] Sorry, got it.
-[drill jamming] -[Lizzy] No.
[Jessica] You're not doing it
right.
Better just calm down,
calm down before I strip this
thing.
-[Lizzy] Hold on. -Were you
going the wrong way?
-[Tinku] There you go. -Got it.
Basics. You're going in at the
angle.
Hold on, your drill-- The drill
is--
Straight ahead, not an angle.
-[Lizzy] Shh. -[drill whirrs]
This family really connects in
the kitchen,
but they need a completely new
layout.
The cabinets are in really great
shape,
so we're gonna re-purpose them
for the outside kitchen.
[Lizzy] Hold on, hold on one
second.
-It's right here. -[Jessica
laughing]
We're really close. Hold on.
-Here's how not to drill ever.
-Is that one out already?
-[laughs] Hold on. -[drill
whirrs]
-Got it, got it. -[Jessica] Ugh.
We are going to try and figure
out how we can reuse,
-and whatever we -[blows
raspberry]
And whatever we can't reuse or
upcycle, um
-We're gonna donate. -Habitat
for Humanity.
That's right.
Just taking things out of the
wall.
Don't worry about it, guys.
-[drill whirrs] -[screw
clatters]
'Cause that's how you do it.
[Lizzy] You're such a
Look what I did.
[grunts]
-I'm not saying anything. -No,
don't say anything.
[Tinku] Whatever.
[■■■]
[Lizzy] All right, so this is
what
it would look like if it were
outside.
-Say this is a sink. -Mm-hmm.
[Lizzy] Because this is the
water source.
-So, this will be sink. -This is
going to be the sink.
[Jessica]
Then we can reuse the slab, and
this can really be a bar.
The Mielkus family outgrew their
house
the second those twins were
born.
So, our design goal is to get
creative
and find a fun way to give them
more living space.
[Jessica]
The home is really adorable.
-It is. -And it is a nice
layout.
So, we are instead
going to leverage the huge
backyard
Wow, this is a lot different
from how
-we saw it the last time. -Yeah.
This is wild.
So, the last time we saw this,
it was just nothing but debris.
So, this is great.
I mean, we have a great space
here to work with.
Yeah. Jeff, we are really,
um, grateful that you are here.
-Yes. -Sure.
I think it will be like a wow
transformation.
Oh, yeah, night and day.
[Lizzy]
is our go-to guy for all things
turf.
It's easy to maintain.
You don't have to water it.
It instantly gives you
a boost of beauty in your yard.
And it's honestly one of our
most favorite ways
to upgrade an outdoor space.
[Jessica] The space will just
feel cleaner, more livable.
-[Jeff] That's the thing. -More
child friendly.
Basically, gonna feel like a
bigger space
-than it has ever been. -A way
bigger space.
-[Lizzy] Yes, huge. -You know, I
had turf
at my house, and I put it over
cement.
And it made such a big
difference
for my kids and for me.
I was pregnant, so I was
slipping
on the tile when it gets wet.
-[Jeff] That's not good.
-[Lizzy] Yeah.
And it's not good. So, it made
my yard
-just feel more friendly and
-[Lizzy] Usable.
usable, and you know, people
can just sort of lay out
and have, like, a picnic
anywhere, basically.
[Lizzy] So, all of this is gonna
be turf.
-[Jeff] Right. -[Jessica] Then
we were thinking
of putting, like, a little swing
set
-because they have little twins.
-[Lizzy] Small children.
-And they have big dogs. -Right.
-And they have four kids. -It's
a lot happening
-at this house. -It's a lot.
Yeah.
[Jeff] For sure. And then, yeah,
we turf
right up to it. This will all be
the same thing.
Just usable space for them to
deal with and enjoy.
And it's gonna feel like such a
different yard
when they're all done.
-[Lizzy] Agree, agree. -[Jeff]
Absolutely.
-[Jessica] Great. -It will be
fantastic
-for all of them. -It's gonna be
awesome for them.
[■■■]
All right, here we go.
So, we are gonna check out this
wallpaper.
And we know for sure that we
want this wallpaper.
-Do we know for sure? -We don't
know for sure.
-No, we don't know for sure.
-But we kind of know
for sure that we want it on this
wall.
Do we know for sure?
[Jessica] We basically know for
sure.
The way that you can take
neutrals to another level
so you're not just in a totally
bland and boring space
is you can bring in patterns
that complement and are neutral.
You can bring in texture with
like shiplap.
[Lizzy] Mm-hmm. Right.
But it's not so boring, like,
just a white wall.
Can we just talk through, just
quickly,
about where this wallpaper is
going?
[Jessica] Just see. It looks
really good here.
-You have so many. -I feel like
we need
to tie it into the room.
Just make the whole room this
wallpaper?
Maybe not the whole room, but
maybe we do over there.
Because we're gonna have that
little,
like, bench seating thing.
I like that, kind of help tie in
the kitchen,
kind of, like, the eating area.
-[Lizzy] So -[Jessica] But I
don't know
if this wallpaper works with the
cabinets.
Well, hold on. We have them. Let
me get 'em.
I think the wallpaper was so
important for us
because we really wanted to tie
the spaces together.
[Lizzy]
[Lizzy] Do not cut my fingers or
the cabinet.
-Why would I cut your fingers?
-That is just you.
Wait, how do you open it?
-[Lizzy] O.M.G. -[Tinku] It's
gonna go that way.
Well Oops.
[Lizzy] Give me that damn thing.
[Lizzy] I think it really leads
into that farmhouse vibe
-that we're going for.
-[Jessica] Yeah.
Oh, my God.
Literally, literally, didn't I
just say?
Literally.
She didn't cut it with the
box opener, though, at least.
[Lizzy] She just wants to break
everything.
[Jessica] I didn't mean to, but
that works.
-[Lizzy] That's very pretty.
-[Tinku] At least you know
-they're durable. -It's so
pretty.
[Lizzy] So, first rule of
wallpaper.
[Jessica] Tell us, Lizzy, since
you're the DIY queen.
[Lizzy] First, you wanna lay it
out
super, super flat.
Wha-- Nope, that's not it.
Okay, she's ruining it, guys.
She's ruining it. Hold on.
-How am I ruining it? -You are.
[Lizzy] Get to the edge, too.
I feel like when we go down,
we're gonna go to the edge.
-No, it's okay. -It's gonna
squeeze it all
-to the edge. -It's okay. It's
all good.
Make sure you get it really nice
and gushy.
I know, but our fingers are
gonna be on the edge.
-That's okay. -No.
-Just get real nice and gushy.
-I have a process.
Why don't you help me do this?
I'm literally helping you on
this end, trust me.
[Tinku] I'll hold this if you
want to show her
-how it's done. -Here, you get
that side.
Wait, don't put it all the way
to the end.
[Tinku] You're so aggressive the
way that you're
-[Lizzy] In life. Life.
-doing this. Yeah.
-[Tinku] All right. -Life is
aggression for her.
-All right, we're done. -Great.
[Jessica] I'm scared.
-[Lizzy] Go closer. -[Jessica
grunts]
-[Jessica] I feel scared.
-[Lizzy] Okay
-Someone hold me. Lizzy!
-[Tinku] I got the wallpaper.
-[Lizzy] I'm holding. -[Jessica]
On me!
You're-- Literally, your butt is
in my face.
[Jessica] I'm scared.
-Lizzy! -[Tinku] I got the
wallpaper.
-[Lizzy] I'm holding. -[Jessica]
On me!
You're-- Literally, your butt is
in my face.
[Jessica] I'm scared.
[Lizzy] Why are you so high?
[Jessica] Well, because the
lines.
See, see my technique?
You go down the middle and then
you push it to the side.
[Tinku] It actually looks pretty
good.
My technique works.
[Lizzy] Jess, see, you should
have
put it on the sides though,
because the sides are not
sticking.
Even with your technique of
pushing it out,
there's still lapse.
-Why? You're annoying. -Heh.
[Lizzy] I'm not doing wallpaper
with you anymore.
Well, you put it all the way to
the end on the bottom.
-[Lizzy] Jessica -[Jessica]
And is it sticking
any better for you?
[Lizzy] Do you think that I am
not, Jessica Marie?
This is ridiculous.
Let me tell you all something
about Jessica Marie, okay?
That's when you know I'm not
playing anymore.
The play has gone.
[Lizzy] Mine looks great down
here.
Just FYI.
Oh, my God.
-What are you talking about?
-[Lizzy] Oh, my God.
[Lizzy] You know what? I'm done.
I'm done. I quit you.
How was I supposed to know that
was gonna happen?
Next time you got lower.
You made me get on the ladder.
Next time, I got upper.
I didn't even wanna be up here.
You can take the lower.
-I got upper. -I have a fear of
heights.
I'm done. I'm done.
[Lizzy] Just so we're clear,
wallpaper loses friendships.
I'm not appreciated here.
I'm done. I'm done with you
guys.
[Tinku] It actually looks
decent.
[Lizzy] Thanks, guys. This is
great.
-Love this. -We still need the
shiplap.
-Don't worry. -[Jessica and
Lizzy] Go team.
[■■■]
Hello!
-[Rylie] Hi. -[Elliana] Hello.
Hugs please. How are you?
-Good. -How are you?
[Lizzy] Oh, over-- Over under,
over under.
Elliana is a superwoman
juggling four kids, two of whom
are babies.
But when Dad's at work, Rylie,
her oldest,
likes to step up and help in the
kitchen.
[Lizzy]
What's so great about this,
Rylie, is that
this is a really easy recipe for
you to help out Mom.
And we know how much you guys
love pizzas.
-We do love our pizzas. -[Lizzy]
You love pizzas.
We have pita pizzas, and so we
have little pitas.
And then you can make them
savory
with toppings like BBQ sauce or
marinara,
alfredo and all the savory
toppings.
We also have hazelnut spread,
and you can do that with
strawberries
or marshmallows or chocolate
chips,
but that's more like dessert.
I can do that for breakfast.
-You -[Elliana gasps]
I like the breakfast pizza idea.
What? Okay. All right.
So, we'll do a breakfast and a
dinner.
How about that?
What's your, like, biggest hope
for the house?
An organized place for my kids.
-[Lizzy] Yeah. -[Elliana] I
mean, my poor son,
I found a letter that he wrote
one day.
And it said, "I just want my
house clean and organized."
-No. -And I was, like, "Oh."
-No, really? -Yeah.
Wow.
Listen, I think that's pretty
doable.
I thought you were gonna say
something crazy.
-[laughs] -Oh! Oh, little bam.
Look at you with a little flare.
I love it.
[■■■]
It's always nice for when kids
are of a certain age,
to be able to help out around
the house,
As soon as Nima can learn how to
wash clothes,
that will be the happiest day of
my life.
[Lizzy] Oh, that looks so good.
-Pizza cheers? -[laughter]
It's good pizza.
Is this something you think you
can do
-easy at home by yourself?
-Mm-hmm.
If I have the ingredients, I can
do it.
All right, staples
-in the house, here on out. -I
love it!
-You heard it here first. -Yes.
You heard it here first.
[■■■]
-Don't move. -[Tinku] I'm
holding it.
-Don't move. -[Tinku] Okay.
-You're not-- You moved.
-[Tinku] Okay.
[drill whirring, stamping]
[Tinku] Generally, you want them
to be on the same level.
[Lizzy laughs] Shut up.
[Tinku] I mean, you don't have
to.
[Lizzy] I thought they were.
I feel like this is gonna be her
space.
John's is gonna be outside
doing his barbecue and flipping
his burgers.
-It's like his and hers. -Yeah.
-It's like having two kitchens.
-Oh, my God.
I swear, we are literally saving
relationships over here.
This should be, like, a
relationship show.
[■■■]
Wait, I have a question.
I have an answer.
-I mean, farmhouse is shiplap.
-Yes.
So, and we're gonna put shiplap.
-We agreed. -Yeah, we did.
-On the fireplace. -Yes.
[Jessica]
-I think the shiplap -She
loves it.
is gonna take that space to
another level.
[exclaims] This is great, Vanna.
Keep going, please.
[instrumental flourish playing]
Wow. I'm done here.
[Jessica] Okay. Shiplap time,
nail gun time.
How do you just appear with a
tea?
-Put your [bleep] tea down. -No,
because I get scared
with the nail gun, and you love
shooting things.
[Tinku] So, if her hands
have something in them already,
she can't help.
[Lizzy] Where did the tea come
from, it just appeared?
-[spell dings] -[Jessica
vocalizes]
-[Tinku]-Tea!
-[Tinku] Yeah. -Where does this
go?
-Hi, Tinku. -[Tinku] Hey.
Tinku, we're doing shiplap.
Okay.
Wait, what are you putting up
there?
[Tinku] Here, what we're gonna
do is,
we're gonna put it there, put
the drywall to it,
so it's a cleaner edge.
-[both] Great. -So, yeah.
And will you be able to match
the ceiling texture?
Yeah. It's like an orange peel
texture.
So, yeah, we'll be able to do
the same thing.
Oh, that's called orange peel.
Okay.
Yeah. There's different-- This
is nothing too complicated.
I'm glad it's not the popcorn
stuff.
-Yeah. -That's stuff hurts my
soul.
[Tinku] The nice thing about
that is, it comes right off.
Oh, it hurts your soul.
Yeah, it does. My soul starts to
cry.
Like, loudly or
-Very loud. -Is it?
It goes like this. [makes small
noise]
That was very silent.
-[Tinku] Wait, one more time.
-Okay, one more.
-Um, no. -[Lizzy giggles]
[Lizzy] Should I go on this
side?
-[Tinku] Yeah, why not. -Or
should I go on this side?
-Both are fine because both--
-[Jessica] Oh, dear.
No, it's going to go into the
nail.
It's gonna go into the nail.
Is there a nail?
[Lizzy] Should I go in the
middle?
No, it's gonna go into a nail.
I don't understand what you're
saying.
-The nails are on each side. -If
you put a nail into a nail--
[Lizzy] They're on each side.
What are you talking about?
-Wait. How do you know? -[Lizzy]
So, here
There's no nail, there's no nail
on this side.
-[Jessica] Yes, yes, there is.
-[Lizzy] No, there isn't.
Oh, dear.
-[nail gun fires] -[Jessica] Oh,
[bleeps]!
-[Jessica] Is there a nail?
-[Lizzy] No.
[Jessica] Well, I just want to
make sure
that you don't put a nail into a
nail.
I care about your eyes.
[Lizzy] Do you? Do you really?
Oh, dear.
-[nail gun fires] -[Jessica] Oh,
[bleeps]!
I love a good nail gun moment.
I know, yes, you do.
With the shiplap, it's so
refreshing.
-[Jessica] Mm-hmm. -It was so
relaxing.
It felt empowering.
-Oh, Jesus. -[nail gun firing]
[nail gun fires twice]
-[Lizzy] Tinku didn't--
-[Jessica] He's fine with this.
He didn't flinch because he
trusts me.
-I don't know why. -At least one
person does.
You were freaking out when I was
using the nail gun,
but somehow when you're using
the nail gun, it's not scary.
-Excuse me, Jessica Marie.
-What?
When you use the nail gun, you
literally cover your eyes,
and you turn away and shoot.
[nail gun firing]
I don't cover my eyes. I--
-You close them. -I close my
eyes.
-There's a difference. -There's
no difference!
[nail gun fires]
[nail gun fires]
-[Tinku] Not bad. -Perfect.
This is gonna be really cool
though.
[Lizzy]
But we've hit a serious problem.
A pipe burst in their yard.
[Lizzy]
So, I'm gonna meet Tinku at the
house in the morning
just to see how bad it really
is.
[jackhammer rattling]
[■■■]
Whoa, whoa, whoa.
-[Lizzy] Wow. -[Tinku] Yeah.
So, the old cast iron pipe
broke.
So, we ended up repairing it.
And so, now, it's nice and new,
and so we're in good shape.
You know, owning a home
isn't always fun and sexy like
it comes across.
Sometimes when things come up
broken or needs repairing,
it can get expensive and a
little overwhelming.
This time, I'm just happy that
it was on us
and not the Mielkuses because
the last thing
they needed was more surprises,
especially after those surprise
twins.
-Well, I'm glad we got it done.
-[Tinku] Yeah.
[Lizzy]
I've asked the Mielkuses to meet
me at the house
so I can update them on what's
going on.
[■■■]
-[Lizzy] Hey, hello! -[Elliana]
Hello!
-Elliana, it's good to see you.
-[Elliana] So good to see you.
-John, so good to see you.
-[John] Good to see you.
[Lizzy] It's almost time.
Honestly, I have butterflies.
I can't wait for you to see the
space
and the transformation that has
occurred.
Don't look behind me at all, at
anything.
I don't want you to know not one
little bit.
But I wanted to talk to you
really quickly
because while we were here, a
pipe burst,
which was something that we had
to deal with
and you guys had to deal with.
for the Mielkuses or any family.
A $5,000 issue can set you back
really fast.
You're adding to your home,
and then all of a sudden, you're
set back
with something broken or needing
to be fixed.
When that happens, it's jarring,
and it's alarming.
It doesn't feel great,
especially when it's not
something small.
-Yeah. -When it's the big things
-like pipe bursting, you know.
-Very defeating.
When that happens, insurance has
to kick in.
-I hope we're covered
-[Lizzy] Yeah, of course.
in case there are-- Anything,
unexpected things that happen
again.
You know that with the value of
your house,
with this renovation, everything
goes up.
People usually think about their
home's market value,
not the cost to replace or
repair things.
We just want to make sure that
you guys are all set
with insurance for the house.
Anything that does come up, it's
really important to have.
And also, speaking of life
insurance,
I mean, life insurance is also a
big thing, too.
Huge thing.
When I became a new mom,
everyone told me,
they were, like, "Girl, you
gotta make sure
you have life insurance because
now you have kids,"
and it just changes the game.
And whether you're working
outside of the house,
whether you're inside the house,
and you're still working.
-[Elliana] Right. -'Cause
stay-at home moms
still work their butt off.
It's just "just in case",
right, to protect everything
that happens
and protect these new bundles
that we have of joy.
Especially with his line of
work.
Especially in the field of
firefighting.
-Are you kidding? Yes. -[John]
Yeah.
It's so important to consider
both for the future.
[John] Right. Very important.
We have one more surprise for
you.
Because our partners at Amica
Insurance
are all about care and empathy,
they're donating $10,000 for you
guys to use
towards anything you might need
post renovation.
-Oh, my gosh. Heh. -That's so
cool.
That's so awesome.
[Lizzy] Amica is all about care
and empathy.
And they know what it feels like
to be homeowners with things
that occur.
[John] That is awesome. -Thank
you.
[Elliana] Oh, my gosh.
That's an amazing gift.
[John] It is really.
-[Elliana] Oh, my gosh. -It's so
cool.
[Lizzy] Listen, I mean, this is
just the beginning.
-We're not finished yet. -[John
chuckles]
The next time I see you guys,
you get to actually walk through
that door.
-Oh, my God. -Okay?
-[Elliana] Yeah. -All right.
-[Lizzy] I'll see you guys soon.
-Oh, my gosh, I'm so excited.
-Go, go back to your kids, go.
-[John] All right. Wow.
[Lizzy] Okay
[Jessica] So, the Mielkus
family.
[Lizzy] That's right.
[■■■]
Mom needs a handsfree bag
moment.
-Wipes. -Wipes.
-Yeah. -Some towels.
-Yes -The lotion.
[Lizzy] Yes.
I think with like four kids,
you need a lot of hand
sanitizer.
[laughter]
-[Lizzy] Okay. -All right. Let's
do this.
Let's figure out how to make
this pretty.
We'll make it pretty.
Love this, and it matches my
green.
[Lizzy] A little bit.
Ahhh!
She gets to actually do her
bills sitting down.
Who are you?
-This is life changing! -This is
life changing.
-She will be very surprised.
-This is so dope!
-[Lizzy] This is so cool. -I'm
so into us.
I think we're going to, kind of,
blow their minds a little bit.
Remember when you were afraid to
hold the babies?
[Lizzy] Oh, my God, I was so
nervous.
It was weird.
Other people's babies, I get a
little nervous.
-Why? -Because there's
just so much liability.
What? You just hold on.
Don't drop it.
Have you ever dropped your kid?
Yes.
Not as a baby, though.
Like when they get older,
sometimes they slip.
No judgment. Don't judge me.
[Jessica] Who installed this?
Lizzy?
We need to make this higher,
Lizzy.
Come on, get on the other side.
Lizzy, what are you doing?
[Lizzy] Calm it down, sister.
[Jessica] Slightly better.
[■■■]
[Jessica] Oh, my God, the play
set!
-Oh, my God! -[Lizzy] Go.
-[Jessica grunts] -[Lizzy] Hey.
Oh, that was fast.
Wait, was this from my shoe?
[Lizzy] See, messing it up
already.
-[Jessica] I know, I really did.
-We can't take you anywhere.
CedarWorks came through with
this one, didn't they?
[Jessica] Yeah. I freaking love
CedarWorks.
Look, Jess, there's a pole.
It's right up your alley.
It's right up your alley.
[■■■]
[Elliana]
to be back in my own house.
I'm so happy you trust me so
much more than anyone else.
[Jessica] Lizzy, how slow are
you?
[Lizzy] I am being careful with
my subject.
It's been weeks and weeks
and weeks of sitting here going,
"Okay, what do you think they're
doing?
And I don't know how to feel.
Are you guys ready?
[Elliana] Oh, my God. My heart
is racing.
Oh, my God, my heart is racing.
Turn around, open the door.
-[John] Open the door.
-[Jessica] Ready?
[Jessica] Go ahead.
[Jessica] Welcome home.
[John]
Are you guys ready?
[Elliana] Oh, my God. My heart
is racing.
I don't know why I'm so--
I'm, like, I'm so stressed out
right now.
I'm so excited.
Oh, my God, my heart is racing.
-[John] Thank you, thank you.
-Turn around, open the door.
-[John] Open the door.
-[Jessica] Ready?
Go ahead.
[Jessica] Welcome home.
-Oh, my -[Jessica] Go ahead,
go.
[■■■]
[John exclaims]
Oh, my gosh.
-[whispers] Oh, she's crying.
-[John] Wow.
[Elliana] This is not our house.
[John] I know. Where are we?
[Jessica] So, what do you think?
-[John] I'm speechless.
-[Elliana] Oh, my God.
-[John] I'm blown away.
-[laughter]
[■■■]
[John]
[Elliana] This literally
couldn't be
-any more perfect. -[John]
Gosh.
[Elliana] I couldn't have even
dreamt this.
[John] No. Oh, my gosh.
We wanted you to be able to have
a space
where you had, like, a real
desk.
But we know that the space is
small in here,
so we wanted you to have the
storage underneath.
We didn't want you to pay the
bills
-Standing up! -standing up
anymore.
[Jessica] The ability to be able
to, like, tuck it away.
[John] Look at how functional, I
mean,
for the kids and the space and
the
And then for the kids, they can
do homework on this side.
And then that way, your dining
table
can be a whole breakfast nook.
[■■■]
Can be for, like, family meals,
and there's storage underneath.
[Lizzy]
[Lizzy]
multiple surfaces to do several
different things.
Yeah. And we wanted to give you
this island to do your baking,
have storage.
[Elliana]
across the kitchen for a
countertop.
[John]
This is amazing.
-Storage for days. -Absolutely.
Storage for days! We have so
many drawers.
[Jessica] Yeah.
We had ideas of what we wanted
to do.
-And this is way better. -Yeah.
[Elliana]
[Jessica]
[Elliana] This is beyond
perfect.
[John] Can I give hugs to you
guys?
[Lizzy] Did we nail it? Did we
nail it?
You guys beyond nailed it.
I would have never have dreamed
of doing that.
-No amount of Pinterest boards
-Right.
-could have made that. -[laughs]
[Jessica] We have one more
surprise for you guys,
and you have to go all the way
outside.
-[Lizzy] Open the door.
-[Elliana gasps]
[■■■]
-[John] Oh -[Elliana
exclaims]
[John] Oh, wow, this is amazing.
Babe, you got a pizza oven.
[■■■]
[John]
I can't wait to have people over
here.
[John] This is amazing.
[Elliana] We have an island
outside, too.
We went from no island
-to two islands. -[John] To two
islands.
Remember the cabinets in your
house?
-[Lizzy]
-[Elliana]
[Jessica]
-Do you remember the countertop?
-[Elliana] Oh, my gosh.
-I didn't even recognize it.
-[Jessica]
-[Elliana] That's right. -We
reused it.
We really wanted to make sure
that we kept
a little piece of the inside of
your home
-and use it outside. -And
brought it outside.
[John] That is so neat.
[Elliana] I'm going to pay bills
out here just for fun.
[laughter]
[■■■]
-[Jessica] Isn't it sweet?
-[Elliana] Oh, my gosh.
[Lizzy]
[Jessica] This is turf. So, you
don't have to water it, eco.
It's really easy to clean, and
there's a fire pole.
-That was just -You'll have
to teach them
-all how to use it. -[John]
That's awesome.
Yeah, yeah.
So now, while you guys are
entertaining
and the kids, and they can still
play.
They can still have their little
space over there to eat.
And then we have one more little
surprise over on the other side.
We worked with Tuff Shed
to create the ultimate kid
clubhouse.
[Elliana] They're gonna wanna
-sleep out here. -[John] Oh, my
gosh.
[Jessica] They could totally
sleep out here.
-[John] Oh, wow. -[Elliana] Oh,
my God.
[Jessica] Isn't it so fun?
-How cool is that? -[John] That
is so cool.
It's all Tucker wanted, to have
a spot.
[John] He's not gonna wanna come
inside.
-No. -He's gonna wanna live out
here.
Our biggest thing here for you
guys
-was to maximize what you had.
-Right.
You guys had a great house, a
great home.
You just weren't maximizing the
space and the yard outside.
And so hopefully we did that.
Y-you did. You went beyond.
Like this is
I don't even know how we begin
to thank you, guys.
-[Lizzy] Aw -[John] Thank you
so much.
[Elliana] I don't know what we
did to deserve this.
-But I'm so glad we did.
-[Lizzy] Oh, you're you.
-[Jessica] Yeah. -[Lizzy] You
guys have
an incredible family.
The kids you're raising, Rylie
and Tucker,
-they're phenomenal. -They're
amazing people.
Thank you.
You needed to be celebrated.
All right, should we get Rylie
and Tucker in here?
[■■■]
-Are you ready? -Yeah.
-Are you sure? -Yeah.
Okay, ready, one, two, three.
-[John chuckles] -[Rylie] A
playground?
[Elliana] A playground!
-[John laughs] -Nice!
-Tucker! -[John] It worked.
Do you guys wanna see more
surprise?
-[Rylie and Tucker] Yeah. -Come
on.
[Rylie and Tucker] One, two,
three.
[Rylie] Rylie and Tucker's fort.
[whispers] This is so cool.
-[Rylie] Isn't that cool?
-[Tucker] Yeah!
You can, like, have friends
over.
You can have sleepovers out
here.
[Elliana] What do you guys
think?
-[Rylie] I like it. -[Elliana
laughs]
-[Tucker] I have a poop, though.
-[parents laugh]
[■■■]
[Jessica] As a parting gift,
Miss Rylie, this is for you.
Here you go, darling.
-[Elliana] Oh, my goodness.
-[John] Wow.
-[Jessica] I make baby stuff.
-[laughter]
-[John] Thank you so much.
-[Jessica] All right.
-Thank you. Thank you. -This was
such an honor,
such a joy.
And you guys deserve every bit
of this and more.
So, thank you for letting us
celebrate you
and be part of-- of your life
for ten weeks.
-Yeah, exactly. -Letting us--
-[both] It was all worth it.
-[John] Thank you so much.
-[Lizzy] Yay! Bye, guys.
-[Jessica] Bye.
-[John] Bye, thank you!
-[Jessica] Bye-bye!
[■■■]
[Elliana]
John can actually be home a
little more.
our marriage, and it-- it feels
good.
[baby babbles]
-[family laughter] -[John]
Yay
And this is
Yay!
[Jessica]
-[both chuckle] -Basically.
[Lizzy]
is parenting can be tough at
every stage of the game.
There's a lot of yelling, and
we've never been
like a yelling type of house.
[Jessica]
that you got this, you're, like,
"Yes, I got this today."
-[child exclaims] -Boom! You
don't.
-[baby crying] -Oh
[Lizzy]
[man] We started demolition--
-Before Emma came. -[man] Yeah.
-And then Emma came. -[both]
Ahhh
I feel defeated as a working
single mom.
I don't know who said babies
don't need a lot of space.
Your family grows.
-Your family changes. -That's
right.
[Jessica]
Inevitably, you're gonna hit a
breaking point.
Every day, I feel like I'm
failing.
[Wilson] It looks like a
junkyard.
It's an organizational thing,
too. Right.
Where things are, where we put
things.
-We could help with that.
-[Wilson] Right.
[Jessica]
can make a massive difference in
your parenting life.
[Jessica] These are all the
healthy snacks
we kind of put at the bottom.
What a cool little hack.
This is a mom hack.
You don't want to go in the
nursery
every time you change the baby.
With changing these homes,
-Welcome home. -[family gasps]
Oh, my gosh!
Thank you for seeing us.
What? Are you kidding me?
I'm gonna cry.
[woman 1]
[woman 2]
You needed to be celebrated.
[Elliana kissing baby]
-What are you doing? -Ready?
-[Elliana] Yeah. -[John] Yeah,
go!
[John chuckles]
[Elliana] Let's see a 360.
[Elliana] Whoo!
-I'm John Mielkus. -I'm Elliana
Mielkus.
And we live in Castaic,
California.
[John]
for about a year and a half.
[Elliana]
after moving in to our house.
Oh, the little bean.
Is that two in there?
Is that two in there?
No, it's not.
Nope.
[Elliana tearfully laughing]
We're having twins.
I think I need a drink.
That in a very tiny home doesn't
work.
-[John] Baby. -[Elliana] Baby.
[John] Do you remember how to
slide it in there?
-[Elliana] Uh-oh! -[John laughs]
The kids don't realize the space
is that small,
And it's definitely a struggle.
[Elliana]
We're all on top of each other.
[■■■]
-[Elliana makes chomping sound]
-[baby giggles]
[baby gurgling]
[Elliana] Someone's at the door.
-[John] Oh, hi! -Hi!
-[Lizzy] Hello! -Hi!
[Elliana] Say hi!
Oh, you're so in it right now.
[Rylie] Hi, I'm Rylie.
Hi. Nice to meet you.
-Hi, I'm Jessica. -[Tucker] Hi.
-Hi, Tucker. -Hi.
I'm Lizzy. Nice to meet you.
Hi, Levi.
[Elliana] And this is Dusty.
Oh, hi, Dusty.
[Lizzy] Hello!
Family's always been super
important to me.
I come from a huge family
and always wanted a huge family
and suckered this guy
So strong.
Do they have anything that tells
them apart?
-Like what is the? -He has
one little scar
on his right cheek-- it's been
-our little cheat sheet.
-[laughter]
The Mielkuses are the sweetest
little family.
-I mean -They're not very
little.
-They're not a little family.
-They're big.
-This is a big family. -Big
family.
-In a small space. -Yeah.
-Were they a surprise? -Yeah.
-[laughs] -[Elliana] One of them
was.
-[John] For me they were, yeah.
-One was a surprise.
We were going for one more, and
then, boom, twins hit.
-[John] And then twins.
-[Elliana] We got a two-fer.
-This is great though. -Yeah,
this is legit.
Took up the living room, but it
was totally worth it.
Well, yeah, so you don't have to
worry.
Question. Do you break this down
at night?
[Elliana]
-[Jessica]-[John]
[Elliana]
to the side just to give us a
little more room at the couch.
[Lizzy]
-[Elliana]
-[John]
[Lizzy]
So, is this the normal routine?
You taking care of the babies
while Dad's on big kid duty?
-[John] Yeah. -[Elliana] When
he's home.
Yeah, when he's home.
Being married to a firefighter
is really difficult.
It's hard to find that balance
between letting him rest and
trying to get him
to parent with me since he is
gone for so long.
And it gets really difficult
having to take on
the role of two as one.
What's your work schedule?
Usually, I work two days
and then have four days off, but
it's not always like that.
I have to work other days.
Like, I was just gone for four
days.
-[Lizzy] Wow. -I'm home for two,
and then I go back for another
four days.
-So, I'm gone. -[Lizzy] And when
he's gone,
you are managing single mom, all
the ones.
She's cooking, cleaning,
shuffling around with school
and other places that the kids
need to be.
-And it's a lot. -I have
firefighters
-in my family. -Same.
-And they are amazing cooks
-[Lizzy] Mm-hmm.
and they're gone for stretches
of time.
And are they sleeping through
the night yet?
-No. -Are the older two
helpful with the younger two?
Yes. I have a little second mom
over there.
-Hey, Rylie. -[Elliana] She's
fantastic.
Tucker and Rylie, come talk to
us.
Sit down, sit down, sit down.
What do you guys love to do most
in this space?
I like to play outside.
-Oh, you like to play outside?
-You like to play outside?
I like to go on my skateboard.
-You do? -Oh, you do?
In here, I like to do, like,
art.
[Tucker] Yeah, me, too.
It's gonna be a challenge.
Listen, you know, this is
a smaller space for four people,
or for six-- for six.
[gasps] Oh, my God, it's six of
them.
[Jessica]
that are appropriate for
everyone,
-[Lizzy]
What would you guys want out of
this space?
This is my favorite,
lighting a fire and just sitting
here
-and relaxing is like
-[Lizzy] Oh, I love that.
-Cozy fireplace. -[Elliana]
Second it gets cold,
-there's a fire on constantly.
-Okay.
I love that. Do you like how it
looks now
or are you open to switching it
up a little bit?
[Elliana]
So, you prefer the brick look.
And then what is the vibe?
Like, what's your aesthetic?
I don't know if we, like, truly
have an "aesthetic".
[Jessica] Do you like modern?
-Do you like mid-century?
-[Lizzy] Farmhouse?
[Elliana] I think it's more like
a rustic farmhouse.
-Yeah, for sure. That's -[all
agreeing]
-Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.
-[Lizzy] Yes. Yes.
Yes. That, that.
[Jessica]
-[John]
[Elliana] It's prep space,
dinner space, homework space.
-Okay. -Family entertainment
space.
-[Elliana] Highchair space.
-[John] Yeah.
Highchair space, right.
What do you say that you guys
are needing the most?
Storage is our main thing.
A lot of the stuff ends up just
sitting on the counter.
Nothing really has a home.
-[Lizzy] I see, I see.
-[Jessica] Okay.
Let's take a look in the
kitchen.
[Elliana]
[Lizzy]
Yeah, I used to cook a lot.
[John]
-[Lizzy and
Jessica]
-There is really no storage.
-[John] No.
It used to be, when I had a
place to cook,
or there was room to cook,
that was kind of my de-stressor.
we haven't had a real kitchen to
cook in.
Whoo. I had him.
-[John] Losing babies.
-[laughter]
-I was, like Mmm. -[John]
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[laughter]
Okay, so from what we
understand,
John likes to cook. You like to
bake.
I do. I love to bake.
That's, like, my release.
So, is this your prep station
over here for all your baking?
-[Elliana]
-[Lizzy]
I use it for all of our bills
and schoolwork for the little
one.
-Do they stand up and use it?
-We have a chair,
or we'll grab one of the stools
that we'll throw over here.
-We've made it work. -Looks like
you've made
-a lot work in this space.
-Yeah.
[Lizzy] I mean, honestly, it's
pretty remarkable.
[■■■]
Is there any way for us to see
this magnificent outside space
that Rylie and Tucker love to
use?
-[Rylie] Yes. -Yes?
All right. So, this is the
backyard.
What? What happened?
[Lizzy] What happened?
[■■■]
All right. So, this is the
backyard.
What? What happened?
-[John laughs] -[Lizzy] What
happened?
[Jessica] What was it?
This was completely enclosed.
-So, this patio-- -Oh, this was
enclosed.
This was completely enclosed
when we bought the house.
[Jessica] Oh, no way.
[John] And it was not in good
shape.
[Lizzy] Okay. I see what you did
there.
-[John] Yeah. -I see what you
did there.
-[John] Yeah. -[Jessica] Okay.
And you're definitely looking
for an open or open feel, right?
[John] Yes. Yeah. We didn't want
it completely--
We didn't wanna enclose it the
way it was.
So, your dogs can't come back
here.
-[John] Nope. -[Elliana] No.
Your children can't come back
here.
-[John] Nope. -[Elliana]
Definitely not.
Windows, doors, wood, all the
things are out there.
-All here, wow. -[John] Yes.
Okay.
[■■■]
Wait, wait, wait, over there in
the corner
[Lizzy laughs] Oh!
there's a-- there's a
succulent in a toilet.
[John] That was a joke.
[Lizzy] I gotta go take a look
at this.
[John] I thought it was funny.
[Lizzy] I gotta see this little
up close and personal.
[Jessica] Whoa, you filled it
with rocks and everything.
-Oh, yeah. -[Lizzy] You went all
in
on the creativity here.
One of the most sustainable
things
-you can do -You tell 'em,
Jess.
when you're renovating any
space
Let 'em know.
is to upcycle.
-That's right. -Reuse.
Yes.
That's fascinating. That's
absolutely fascinating.
[Jessica]
-But they had, like -I just
think that the dad
-that wild -got in over
his head.
-situation. -[Lizzy] And they
couldn't.
They couldn't get themselves
out.
-It's very artistic. -That's
very creative.
[Lizzy] You could sell those.
Like when you're in too deep,
and you're just, like,
"I can't quite" Like that?
-All that. -Okay.
-[both laughing] -What she said.
If you could envision your space
to be anything out here, what
would it be?
Definitely functional for the
kids and the family.
And then I would love to be able
to have an outdoor space
where I could cook and do stuff
out here, too.
-[Lizzy] Mm-hmm. -That way the
kids could play.
We could have people over and
actually be happy
to have people in our backyard.
-Entertain. -You want to
entertain?
-[John] Yes. -[Elliana] And then
I always
wanted to put, like, a little
playground or something
-over there for the kids.
-[whispers] Yes, I agree.
[overlapping hushed conversation
to the baby]
[Elliana] You want to go see
'em?
-Hi. -You want to go say hi?
-Can we? Can I? Can we?
-[Jessica] Hi.
Oh, my goodness, hello!
[Lizzy]
You were afraid of holding-- You
don't really like babies.
You know what it is? No, I love
babies.
You don't really like babies.
No, are you kidding--
[Lizzy]
[Jessica]
[Lizzy]
I think they can sense my
nervousness.
He's, like, "I'm done." I feel
it. I feel it.
I know, he got nervous. I got
nervous.
[both babble baby noises]
[Jessica] So, I feel like we
have a pretty good idea.
-Clear her out. -Let's do this.
-[Lizzy exclaims] -I'm excited.
I'm excited, too. It's gonna be
so good.
[Lizzy] It's gonna be so much
fun.
Elliana obviously is holding
down the home
while he's away working all
week,
I feel like we are gonna change
her life for the better.
-I agree. -I mean, just like
making
the space work for her and the
kids.
[Jessica]
[John] This is insane.
It's amazing.
The Mielkus family, so this is
our big family.
They are a family of six.
[Jessica] So, I think we need to
figure out
how to give them storage, usable
space.
[Jessica]
And the
It would also really be nice
to try and separate these
spaces.
Not necessarily a wall, but
definitely give,
like this is the kitchen, and
this is the living room.
-Right. -So, let's take out
[Lizzy]
Just inside their home is about
1,000 square feet.
Outside is 800 square feet.
[Lizzy]
[Jessica]
You're gonna make Tucker so mad.
No. He gets a whole playset.
The babies aren't gonna play on
the play--
-You're gonna make Tucker mad.
-That's not true.
Tucker's gonna bring that smoke
on you.
-No, he isn't. -Daddy gonna have
to put it out.
His dad's gonna put out that
smoke on you.
Fine. It'll be for both of them.
-[drill whirrs] -Whoa! Jesus!
[Lizzy] Sorry, got it.
-[drill jamming] -[Lizzy] No.
[Jessica] You're not doing it
right.
Better just calm down,
calm down before I strip this
thing.
-[Lizzy] Hold on. -Were you
going the wrong way?
-[Tinku] There you go. -Got it.
Basics. You're going in at the
angle.
Hold on, your drill-- The drill
is--
Straight ahead, not an angle.
-[Lizzy] Shh. -[drill whirrs]
This family really connects in
the kitchen,
but they need a completely new
layout.
The cabinets are in really great
shape,
so we're gonna re-purpose them
for the outside kitchen.
[Lizzy] Hold on, hold on one
second.
-It's right here. -[Jessica
laughing]
We're really close. Hold on.
-Here's how not to drill ever.
-Is that one out already?
-[laughs] Hold on. -[drill
whirrs]
-Got it, got it. -[Jessica] Ugh.
We are going to try and figure
out how we can reuse,
-and whatever we -[blows
raspberry]
And whatever we can't reuse or
upcycle, um
-We're gonna donate. -Habitat
for Humanity.
That's right.
Just taking things out of the
wall.
Don't worry about it, guys.
-[drill whirrs] -[screw
clatters]
'Cause that's how you do it.
[Lizzy] You're such a
Look what I did.
[grunts]
-I'm not saying anything. -No,
don't say anything.
[Tinku] Whatever.
[■■■]
[Lizzy] All right, so this is
what
it would look like if it were
outside.
-Say this is a sink. -Mm-hmm.
[Lizzy] Because this is the
water source.
-So, this will be sink. -This is
going to be the sink.
[Jessica]
Then we can reuse the slab, and
this can really be a bar.
The Mielkus family outgrew their
house
the second those twins were
born.
So, our design goal is to get
creative
and find a fun way to give them
more living space.
[Jessica]
The home is really adorable.
-It is. -And it is a nice
layout.
So, we are instead
going to leverage the huge
backyard
Wow, this is a lot different
from how
-we saw it the last time. -Yeah.
This is wild.
So, the last time we saw this,
it was just nothing but debris.
So, this is great.
I mean, we have a great space
here to work with.
Yeah. Jeff, we are really,
um, grateful that you are here.
-Yes. -Sure.
I think it will be like a wow
transformation.
Oh, yeah, night and day.
[Lizzy]
is our go-to guy for all things
turf.
It's easy to maintain.
You don't have to water it.
It instantly gives you
a boost of beauty in your yard.
And it's honestly one of our
most favorite ways
to upgrade an outdoor space.
[Jessica] The space will just
feel cleaner, more livable.
-[Jeff] That's the thing. -More
child friendly.
Basically, gonna feel like a
bigger space
-than it has ever been. -A way
bigger space.
-[Lizzy] Yes, huge. -You know, I
had turf
at my house, and I put it over
cement.
And it made such a big
difference
for my kids and for me.
I was pregnant, so I was
slipping
on the tile when it gets wet.
-[Jeff] That's not good.
-[Lizzy] Yeah.
And it's not good. So, it made
my yard
-just feel more friendly and
-[Lizzy] Usable.
usable, and you know, people
can just sort of lay out
and have, like, a picnic
anywhere, basically.
[Lizzy] So, all of this is gonna
be turf.
-[Jeff] Right. -[Jessica] Then
we were thinking
of putting, like, a little swing
set
-because they have little twins.
-[Lizzy] Small children.
-And they have big dogs. -Right.
-And they have four kids. -It's
a lot happening
-at this house. -It's a lot.
Yeah.
[Jeff] For sure. And then, yeah,
we turf
right up to it. This will all be
the same thing.
Just usable space for them to
deal with and enjoy.
And it's gonna feel like such a
different yard
when they're all done.
-[Lizzy] Agree, agree. -[Jeff]
Absolutely.
-[Jessica] Great. -It will be
fantastic
-for all of them. -It's gonna be
awesome for them.
[■■■]
All right, here we go.
So, we are gonna check out this
wallpaper.
And we know for sure that we
want this wallpaper.
-Do we know for sure? -We don't
know for sure.
-No, we don't know for sure.
-But we kind of know
for sure that we want it on this
wall.
Do we know for sure?
[Jessica] We basically know for
sure.
The way that you can take
neutrals to another level
so you're not just in a totally
bland and boring space
is you can bring in patterns
that complement and are neutral.
You can bring in texture with
like shiplap.
[Lizzy] Mm-hmm. Right.
But it's not so boring, like,
just a white wall.
Can we just talk through, just
quickly,
about where this wallpaper is
going?
[Jessica] Just see. It looks
really good here.
-You have so many. -I feel like
we need
to tie it into the room.
Just make the whole room this
wallpaper?
Maybe not the whole room, but
maybe we do over there.
Because we're gonna have that
little,
like, bench seating thing.
I like that, kind of help tie in
the kitchen,
kind of, like, the eating area.
-[Lizzy] So -[Jessica] But I
don't know
if this wallpaper works with the
cabinets.
Well, hold on. We have them. Let
me get 'em.
I think the wallpaper was so
important for us
because we really wanted to tie
the spaces together.
[Lizzy]
[Lizzy] Do not cut my fingers or
the cabinet.
-Why would I cut your fingers?
-That is just you.
Wait, how do you open it?
-[Lizzy] O.M.G. -[Tinku] It's
gonna go that way.
Well Oops.
[Lizzy] Give me that damn thing.
[Lizzy] I think it really leads
into that farmhouse vibe
-that we're going for.
-[Jessica] Yeah.
Oh, my God.
Literally, literally, didn't I
just say?
Literally.
She didn't cut it with the
box opener, though, at least.
[Lizzy] She just wants to break
everything.
[Jessica] I didn't mean to, but
that works.
-[Lizzy] That's very pretty.
-[Tinku] At least you know
-they're durable. -It's so
pretty.
[Lizzy] So, first rule of
wallpaper.
[Jessica] Tell us, Lizzy, since
you're the DIY queen.
[Lizzy] First, you wanna lay it
out
super, super flat.
Wha-- Nope, that's not it.
Okay, she's ruining it, guys.
She's ruining it. Hold on.
-How am I ruining it? -You are.
[Lizzy] Get to the edge, too.
I feel like when we go down,
we're gonna go to the edge.
-No, it's okay. -It's gonna
squeeze it all
-to the edge. -It's okay. It's
all good.
Make sure you get it really nice
and gushy.
I know, but our fingers are
gonna be on the edge.
-That's okay. -No.
-Just get real nice and gushy.
-I have a process.
Why don't you help me do this?
I'm literally helping you on
this end, trust me.
[Tinku] I'll hold this if you
want to show her
-how it's done. -Here, you get
that side.
Wait, don't put it all the way
to the end.
[Tinku] You're so aggressive the
way that you're
-[Lizzy] In life. Life.
-doing this. Yeah.
-[Tinku] All right. -Life is
aggression for her.
-All right, we're done. -Great.
[Jessica] I'm scared.
-[Lizzy] Go closer. -[Jessica
grunts]
-[Jessica] I feel scared.
-[Lizzy] Okay
-Someone hold me. Lizzy!
-[Tinku] I got the wallpaper.
-[Lizzy] I'm holding. -[Jessica]
On me!
You're-- Literally, your butt is
in my face.
[Jessica] I'm scared.
-Lizzy! -[Tinku] I got the
wallpaper.
-[Lizzy] I'm holding. -[Jessica]
On me!
You're-- Literally, your butt is
in my face.
[Jessica] I'm scared.
[Lizzy] Why are you so high?
[Jessica] Well, because the
lines.
See, see my technique?
You go down the middle and then
you push it to the side.
[Tinku] It actually looks pretty
good.
My technique works.
[Lizzy] Jess, see, you should
have
put it on the sides though,
because the sides are not
sticking.
Even with your technique of
pushing it out,
there's still lapse.
-Why? You're annoying. -Heh.
[Lizzy] I'm not doing wallpaper
with you anymore.
Well, you put it all the way to
the end on the bottom.
-[Lizzy] Jessica -[Jessica]
And is it sticking
any better for you?
[Lizzy] Do you think that I am
not, Jessica Marie?
This is ridiculous.
Let me tell you all something
about Jessica Marie, okay?
That's when you know I'm not
playing anymore.
The play has gone.
[Lizzy] Mine looks great down
here.
Just FYI.
Oh, my God.
-What are you talking about?
-[Lizzy] Oh, my God.
[Lizzy] You know what? I'm done.
I'm done. I quit you.
How was I supposed to know that
was gonna happen?
Next time you got lower.
You made me get on the ladder.
Next time, I got upper.
I didn't even wanna be up here.
You can take the lower.
-I got upper. -I have a fear of
heights.
I'm done. I'm done.
[Lizzy] Just so we're clear,
wallpaper loses friendships.
I'm not appreciated here.
I'm done. I'm done with you
guys.
[Tinku] It actually looks
decent.
[Lizzy] Thanks, guys. This is
great.
-Love this. -We still need the
shiplap.
-Don't worry. -[Jessica and
Lizzy] Go team.
[■■■]
Hello!
-[Rylie] Hi. -[Elliana] Hello.
Hugs please. How are you?
-Good. -How are you?
[Lizzy] Oh, over-- Over under,
over under.
Elliana is a superwoman
juggling four kids, two of whom
are babies.
But when Dad's at work, Rylie,
her oldest,
likes to step up and help in the
kitchen.
[Lizzy]
What's so great about this,
Rylie, is that
this is a really easy recipe for
you to help out Mom.
And we know how much you guys
love pizzas.
-We do love our pizzas. -[Lizzy]
You love pizzas.
We have pita pizzas, and so we
have little pitas.
And then you can make them
savory
with toppings like BBQ sauce or
marinara,
alfredo and all the savory
toppings.
We also have hazelnut spread,
and you can do that with
strawberries
or marshmallows or chocolate
chips,
but that's more like dessert.
I can do that for breakfast.
-You -[Elliana gasps]
I like the breakfast pizza idea.
What? Okay. All right.
So, we'll do a breakfast and a
dinner.
How about that?
What's your, like, biggest hope
for the house?
An organized place for my kids.
-[Lizzy] Yeah. -[Elliana] I
mean, my poor son,
I found a letter that he wrote
one day.
And it said, "I just want my
house clean and organized."
-No. -And I was, like, "Oh."
-No, really? -Yeah.
Wow.
Listen, I think that's pretty
doable.
I thought you were gonna say
something crazy.
-[laughs] -Oh! Oh, little bam.
Look at you with a little flare.
I love it.
[■■■]
It's always nice for when kids
are of a certain age,
to be able to help out around
the house,
As soon as Nima can learn how to
wash clothes,
that will be the happiest day of
my life.
[Lizzy] Oh, that looks so good.
-Pizza cheers? -[laughter]
It's good pizza.
Is this something you think you
can do
-easy at home by yourself?
-Mm-hmm.
If I have the ingredients, I can
do it.
All right, staples
-in the house, here on out. -I
love it!
-You heard it here first. -Yes.
You heard it here first.
[■■■]
-Don't move. -[Tinku] I'm
holding it.
-Don't move. -[Tinku] Okay.
-You're not-- You moved.
-[Tinku] Okay.
[drill whirring, stamping]
[Tinku] Generally, you want them
to be on the same level.
[Lizzy laughs] Shut up.
[Tinku] I mean, you don't have
to.
[Lizzy] I thought they were.
I feel like this is gonna be her
space.
John's is gonna be outside
doing his barbecue and flipping
his burgers.
-It's like his and hers. -Yeah.
-It's like having two kitchens.
-Oh, my God.
I swear, we are literally saving
relationships over here.
This should be, like, a
relationship show.
[■■■]
Wait, I have a question.
I have an answer.
-I mean, farmhouse is shiplap.
-Yes.
So, and we're gonna put shiplap.
-We agreed. -Yeah, we did.
-On the fireplace. -Yes.
[Jessica]
-I think the shiplap -She
loves it.
is gonna take that space to
another level.
[exclaims] This is great, Vanna.
Keep going, please.
[instrumental flourish playing]
Wow. I'm done here.
[Jessica] Okay. Shiplap time,
nail gun time.
How do you just appear with a
tea?
-Put your [bleep] tea down. -No,
because I get scared
with the nail gun, and you love
shooting things.
[Tinku] So, if her hands
have something in them already,
she can't help.
[Lizzy] Where did the tea come
from, it just appeared?
-[spell dings] -[Jessica
vocalizes]
-[Tinku]-Tea!
-[Tinku] Yeah. -Where does this
go?
-Hi, Tinku. -[Tinku] Hey.
Tinku, we're doing shiplap.
Okay.
Wait, what are you putting up
there?
[Tinku] Here, what we're gonna
do is,
we're gonna put it there, put
the drywall to it,
so it's a cleaner edge.
-[both] Great. -So, yeah.
And will you be able to match
the ceiling texture?
Yeah. It's like an orange peel
texture.
So, yeah, we'll be able to do
the same thing.
Oh, that's called orange peel.
Okay.
Yeah. There's different-- This
is nothing too complicated.
I'm glad it's not the popcorn
stuff.
-Yeah. -That's stuff hurts my
soul.
[Tinku] The nice thing about
that is, it comes right off.
Oh, it hurts your soul.
Yeah, it does. My soul starts to
cry.
Like, loudly or
-Very loud. -Is it?
It goes like this. [makes small
noise]
That was very silent.
-[Tinku] Wait, one more time.
-Okay, one more.
-Um, no. -[Lizzy giggles]
[Lizzy] Should I go on this
side?
-[Tinku] Yeah, why not. -Or
should I go on this side?
-Both are fine because both--
-[Jessica] Oh, dear.
No, it's going to go into the
nail.
It's gonna go into the nail.
Is there a nail?
[Lizzy] Should I go in the
middle?
No, it's gonna go into a nail.
I don't understand what you're
saying.
-The nails are on each side. -If
you put a nail into a nail--
[Lizzy] They're on each side.
What are you talking about?
-Wait. How do you know? -[Lizzy]
So, here
There's no nail, there's no nail
on this side.
-[Jessica] Yes, yes, there is.
-[Lizzy] No, there isn't.
Oh, dear.
-[nail gun fires] -[Jessica] Oh,
[bleeps]!
-[Jessica] Is there a nail?
-[Lizzy] No.
[Jessica] Well, I just want to
make sure
that you don't put a nail into a
nail.
I care about your eyes.
[Lizzy] Do you? Do you really?
Oh, dear.
-[nail gun fires] -[Jessica] Oh,
[bleeps]!
I love a good nail gun moment.
I know, yes, you do.
With the shiplap, it's so
refreshing.
-[Jessica] Mm-hmm. -It was so
relaxing.
It felt empowering.
-Oh, Jesus. -[nail gun firing]
[nail gun fires twice]
-[Lizzy] Tinku didn't--
-[Jessica] He's fine with this.
He didn't flinch because he
trusts me.
-I don't know why. -At least one
person does.
You were freaking out when I was
using the nail gun,
but somehow when you're using
the nail gun, it's not scary.
-Excuse me, Jessica Marie.
-What?
When you use the nail gun, you
literally cover your eyes,
and you turn away and shoot.
[nail gun firing]
I don't cover my eyes. I--
-You close them. -I close my
eyes.
-There's a difference. -There's
no difference!
[nail gun fires]
[nail gun fires]
-[Tinku] Not bad. -Perfect.
This is gonna be really cool
though.
[Lizzy]
But we've hit a serious problem.
A pipe burst in their yard.
[Lizzy]
So, I'm gonna meet Tinku at the
house in the morning
just to see how bad it really
is.
[jackhammer rattling]
[■■■]
Whoa, whoa, whoa.
-[Lizzy] Wow. -[Tinku] Yeah.
So, the old cast iron pipe
broke.
So, we ended up repairing it.
And so, now, it's nice and new,
and so we're in good shape.
You know, owning a home
isn't always fun and sexy like
it comes across.
Sometimes when things come up
broken or needs repairing,
it can get expensive and a
little overwhelming.
This time, I'm just happy that
it was on us
and not the Mielkuses because
the last thing
they needed was more surprises,
especially after those surprise
twins.
-Well, I'm glad we got it done.
-[Tinku] Yeah.
[Lizzy]
I've asked the Mielkuses to meet
me at the house
so I can update them on what's
going on.
[■■■]
-[Lizzy] Hey, hello! -[Elliana]
Hello!
-Elliana, it's good to see you.
-[Elliana] So good to see you.
-John, so good to see you.
-[John] Good to see you.
[Lizzy] It's almost time.
Honestly, I have butterflies.
I can't wait for you to see the
space
and the transformation that has
occurred.
Don't look behind me at all, at
anything.
I don't want you to know not one
little bit.
But I wanted to talk to you
really quickly
because while we were here, a
pipe burst,
which was something that we had
to deal with
and you guys had to deal with.
for the Mielkuses or any family.
A $5,000 issue can set you back
really fast.
You're adding to your home,
and then all of a sudden, you're
set back
with something broken or needing
to be fixed.
When that happens, it's jarring,
and it's alarming.
It doesn't feel great,
especially when it's not
something small.
-Yeah. -When it's the big things
-like pipe bursting, you know.
-Very defeating.
When that happens, insurance has
to kick in.
-I hope we're covered
-[Lizzy] Yeah, of course.
in case there are-- Anything,
unexpected things that happen
again.
You know that with the value of
your house,
with this renovation, everything
goes up.
People usually think about their
home's market value,
not the cost to replace or
repair things.
We just want to make sure that
you guys are all set
with insurance for the house.
Anything that does come up, it's
really important to have.
And also, speaking of life
insurance,
I mean, life insurance is also a
big thing, too.
Huge thing.
When I became a new mom,
everyone told me,
they were, like, "Girl, you
gotta make sure
you have life insurance because
now you have kids,"
and it just changes the game.
And whether you're working
outside of the house,
whether you're inside the house,
and you're still working.
-[Elliana] Right. -'Cause
stay-at home moms
still work their butt off.
It's just "just in case",
right, to protect everything
that happens
and protect these new bundles
that we have of joy.
Especially with his line of
work.
Especially in the field of
firefighting.
-Are you kidding? Yes. -[John]
Yeah.
It's so important to consider
both for the future.
[John] Right. Very important.
We have one more surprise for
you.
Because our partners at Amica
Insurance
are all about care and empathy,
they're donating $10,000 for you
guys to use
towards anything you might need
post renovation.
-Oh, my gosh. Heh. -That's so
cool.
That's so awesome.
[Lizzy] Amica is all about care
and empathy.
And they know what it feels like
to be homeowners with things
that occur.
[John] That is awesome. -Thank
you.
[Elliana] Oh, my gosh.
That's an amazing gift.
[John] It is really.
-[Elliana] Oh, my gosh. -It's so
cool.
[Lizzy] Listen, I mean, this is
just the beginning.
-We're not finished yet. -[John
chuckles]
The next time I see you guys,
you get to actually walk through
that door.
-Oh, my God. -Okay?
-[Elliana] Yeah. -All right.
-[Lizzy] I'll see you guys soon.
-Oh, my gosh, I'm so excited.
-Go, go back to your kids, go.
-[John] All right. Wow.
[Lizzy] Okay
[Jessica] So, the Mielkus
family.
[Lizzy] That's right.
[■■■]
Mom needs a handsfree bag
moment.
-Wipes. -Wipes.
-Yeah. -Some towels.
-Yes -The lotion.
[Lizzy] Yes.
I think with like four kids,
you need a lot of hand
sanitizer.
[laughter]
-[Lizzy] Okay. -All right. Let's
do this.
Let's figure out how to make
this pretty.
We'll make it pretty.
Love this, and it matches my
green.
[Lizzy] A little bit.
Ahhh!
She gets to actually do her
bills sitting down.
Who are you?
-This is life changing! -This is
life changing.
-She will be very surprised.
-This is so dope!
-[Lizzy] This is so cool. -I'm
so into us.
I think we're going to, kind of,
blow their minds a little bit.
Remember when you were afraid to
hold the babies?
[Lizzy] Oh, my God, I was so
nervous.
It was weird.
Other people's babies, I get a
little nervous.
-Why? -Because there's
just so much liability.
What? You just hold on.
Don't drop it.
Have you ever dropped your kid?
Yes.
Not as a baby, though.
Like when they get older,
sometimes they slip.
No judgment. Don't judge me.
[Jessica] Who installed this?
Lizzy?
We need to make this higher,
Lizzy.
Come on, get on the other side.
Lizzy, what are you doing?
[Lizzy] Calm it down, sister.
[Jessica] Slightly better.
[■■■]
[Jessica] Oh, my God, the play
set!
-Oh, my God! -[Lizzy] Go.
-[Jessica grunts] -[Lizzy] Hey.
Oh, that was fast.
Wait, was this from my shoe?
[Lizzy] See, messing it up
already.
-[Jessica] I know, I really did.
-We can't take you anywhere.
CedarWorks came through with
this one, didn't they?
[Jessica] Yeah. I freaking love
CedarWorks.
Look, Jess, there's a pole.
It's right up your alley.
It's right up your alley.
[■■■]
[Elliana]
to be back in my own house.
I'm so happy you trust me so
much more than anyone else.
[Jessica] Lizzy, how slow are
you?
[Lizzy] I am being careful with
my subject.
It's been weeks and weeks
and weeks of sitting here going,
"Okay, what do you think they're
doing?
And I don't know how to feel.
Are you guys ready?
[Elliana] Oh, my God. My heart
is racing.
Oh, my God, my heart is racing.
Turn around, open the door.
-[John] Open the door.
-[Jessica] Ready?
[Jessica] Go ahead.
[Jessica] Welcome home.
[John]
Are you guys ready?
[Elliana] Oh, my God. My heart
is racing.
I don't know why I'm so--
I'm, like, I'm so stressed out
right now.
I'm so excited.
Oh, my God, my heart is racing.
-[John] Thank you, thank you.
-Turn around, open the door.
-[John] Open the door.
-[Jessica] Ready?
Go ahead.
[Jessica] Welcome home.
-Oh, my -[Jessica] Go ahead,
go.
[■■■]
[John exclaims]
Oh, my gosh.
-[whispers] Oh, she's crying.
-[John] Wow.
[Elliana] This is not our house.
[John] I know. Where are we?
[Jessica] So, what do you think?
-[John] I'm speechless.
-[Elliana] Oh, my God.
-[John] I'm blown away.
-[laughter]
[■■■]
[John]
[Elliana] This literally
couldn't be
-any more perfect. -[John]
Gosh.
[Elliana] I couldn't have even
dreamt this.
[John] No. Oh, my gosh.
We wanted you to be able to have
a space
where you had, like, a real
desk.
But we know that the space is
small in here,
so we wanted you to have the
storage underneath.
We didn't want you to pay the
bills
-Standing up! -standing up
anymore.
[Jessica] The ability to be able
to, like, tuck it away.
[John] Look at how functional, I
mean,
for the kids and the space and
the
And then for the kids, they can
do homework on this side.
And then that way, your dining
table
can be a whole breakfast nook.
[■■■]
Can be for, like, family meals,
and there's storage underneath.
[Lizzy]
[Lizzy]
multiple surfaces to do several
different things.
Yeah. And we wanted to give you
this island to do your baking,
have storage.
[Elliana]
across the kitchen for a
countertop.
[John]
This is amazing.
-Storage for days. -Absolutely.
Storage for days! We have so
many drawers.
[Jessica] Yeah.
We had ideas of what we wanted
to do.
-And this is way better. -Yeah.
[Elliana]
[Jessica]
[Elliana] This is beyond
perfect.
[John] Can I give hugs to you
guys?
[Lizzy] Did we nail it? Did we
nail it?
You guys beyond nailed it.
I would have never have dreamed
of doing that.
-No amount of Pinterest boards
-Right.
-could have made that. -[laughs]
[Jessica] We have one more
surprise for you guys,
and you have to go all the way
outside.
-[Lizzy] Open the door.
-[Elliana gasps]
[■■■]
-[John] Oh -[Elliana
exclaims]
[John] Oh, wow, this is amazing.
Babe, you got a pizza oven.
[■■■]
[John]
I can't wait to have people over
here.
[John] This is amazing.
[Elliana] We have an island
outside, too.
We went from no island
-to two islands. -[John] To two
islands.
Remember the cabinets in your
house?
-[Lizzy]
-[Elliana]
[Jessica]
-Do you remember the countertop?
-[Elliana] Oh, my gosh.
-I didn't even recognize it.
-[Jessica]
-[Elliana] That's right. -We
reused it.
We really wanted to make sure
that we kept
a little piece of the inside of
your home
-and use it outside. -And
brought it outside.
[John] That is so neat.
[Elliana] I'm going to pay bills
out here just for fun.
[laughter]
[■■■]
-[Jessica] Isn't it sweet?
-[Elliana] Oh, my gosh.
[Lizzy]
[Jessica] This is turf. So, you
don't have to water it, eco.
It's really easy to clean, and
there's a fire pole.
-That was just -You'll have
to teach them
-all how to use it. -[John]
That's awesome.
Yeah, yeah.
So now, while you guys are
entertaining
and the kids, and they can still
play.
They can still have their little
space over there to eat.
And then we have one more little
surprise over on the other side.
We worked with Tuff Shed
to create the ultimate kid
clubhouse.
[Elliana] They're gonna wanna
-sleep out here. -[John] Oh, my
gosh.
[Jessica] They could totally
sleep out here.
-[John] Oh, wow. -[Elliana] Oh,
my God.
[Jessica] Isn't it so fun?
-How cool is that? -[John] That
is so cool.
It's all Tucker wanted, to have
a spot.
[John] He's not gonna wanna come
inside.
-No. -He's gonna wanna live out
here.
Our biggest thing here for you
guys
-was to maximize what you had.
-Right.
You guys had a great house, a
great home.
You just weren't maximizing the
space and the yard outside.
And so hopefully we did that.
Y-you did. You went beyond.
Like this is
I don't even know how we begin
to thank you, guys.
-[Lizzy] Aw -[John] Thank you
so much.
[Elliana] I don't know what we
did to deserve this.
-But I'm so glad we did.
-[Lizzy] Oh, you're you.
-[Jessica] Yeah. -[Lizzy] You
guys have
an incredible family.
The kids you're raising, Rylie
and Tucker,
-they're phenomenal. -They're
amazing people.
Thank you.
You needed to be celebrated.
All right, should we get Rylie
and Tucker in here?
[■■■]
-Are you ready? -Yeah.
-Are you sure? -Yeah.
Okay, ready, one, two, three.
-[John chuckles] -[Rylie] A
playground?
[Elliana] A playground!
-[John laughs] -Nice!
-Tucker! -[John] It worked.
Do you guys wanna see more
surprise?
-[Rylie and Tucker] Yeah. -Come
on.
[Rylie and Tucker] One, two,
three.
[Rylie] Rylie and Tucker's fort.
[whispers] This is so cool.
-[Rylie] Isn't that cool?
-[Tucker] Yeah!
You can, like, have friends
over.
You can have sleepovers out
here.
[Elliana] What do you guys
think?
-[Rylie] I like it. -[Elliana
laughs]
-[Tucker] I have a poop, though.
-[parents laugh]
[■■■]
[Jessica] As a parting gift,
Miss Rylie, this is for you.
Here you go, darling.
-[Elliana] Oh, my goodness.
-[John] Wow.
-[Jessica] I make baby stuff.
-[laughter]
-[John] Thank you so much.
-[Jessica] All right.
-Thank you. Thank you. -This was
such an honor,
such a joy.
And you guys deserve every bit
of this and more.
So, thank you for letting us
celebrate you
and be part of-- of your life
for ten weeks.
-Yeah, exactly. -Letting us--
-[both] It was all worth it.
-[John] Thank you so much.
-[Lizzy] Yay! Bye, guys.
-[Jessica] Bye.
-[John] Bye, thank you!
-[Jessica] Bye-bye!
[■■■]
[Elliana]
John can actually be home a
little more.
our marriage, and it-- it feels
good.
[baby babbles]
-[family laughter] -[John]
Yay
