Investigation Alien (2024) s01e01 Episode Script
Why Are They Here?
[unsettling music playing]
[muffled clattering inside SUV]
[line ringing]
- [call connects]
- [man] Hello?
You know my name and what I do, right?
Yes, I do.
You are, uh, what we would classify
as a whistleblower.
Yes, that would be exactly what I am.
Have you, uh, spoken in front of Congress?
Yes, I have.
Behind closed doors, of course.
Nothin' in a public setting yet.
Right. I want to be able to share this
with the world, but I need proof.
I could take you to one of these locations
that could prove that this stuff exists.
So what are we talking about exactly?
Antigravity, advanced weapons systems.
There are technologies
out there that exist
that is far more remarkable
compared to just transportation.
Sounds like you're indicating
that the US military and its contractors
are able to reproduce this stuff
on their own.
Yes, they have, and they've been doing
that successfully for over 50 years.
I mean, how how can we help you
break this story?
Is there a way that we can move forward
and have some solid proof
that would convince anybody
that what you're saying is true?
Well, I I'm working on it.
It's a very hard place to be.
I have to respect the safety
of these insiders as well as myself
and anybody associated with this.
And this also includes you, George.
[music peaks, fades]
[energetic music playing]
[Knapp] There is
enormous amount of evidence
to suggest that we do have
a nonhuman intelligence
interacting with us on this planet.
[music swells]
[Knapp] We don't know where they're from.
They can do things that we can't do.
Our military knows
that there is an intense, ongoing interest
by whatever they are
in our most sensitive installations.
[pilot] Wow! What is that?
[Knapp] This is real,
and I'm right in the middle of it.
My name is George Knapp.
People know me as the UFO reporter.
I've covered this story
from pretty much every angle
for probably longer than any other
mainstream journalist in the country.
All we want to know is what's going on.
I didn't come into this topic
as some sort of a UFO believer.
I always approached it as a news story.
But after talking to eyewitnesses
What's going on up there could be
the most important event in history.
the experts
Extraterrestrial hypothesis
is entirely viable
and, in my view, reasonable.
and following the evidence
all over the world,
it's impossible for me
to explain it all away.
But for so long,
the truth has been kept under wraps
because of social stigma
and government secrecy.
Someone said, "You open your mouth,
and that's the end
of your retirement pay."
[Knapp] People who came forward
could face real consequences.
The government has lied to us about UFOs,
has withheld information,
has spied on UFO organizations,
and has discredited UFO witnesses.
It was very brutal.
Some of the tactics they used
hurt me both professionally
and personally, to be quite frank. Yeah.
I was banging my head against a brick wall
for at least 20, 25 years,
trying to get this topic
into the mainstream.
And it seemed like a lost cause.
But now, the whole playing field
has changed.
We're looking at all types
of anomalous phenomena.
[Knapp] And even Congress are now
takin' this seriously.
It's probably the most credible
UFO sighting in history.
[Knapp] But the closer the public gets
to the crashed saucers, to the bodies,
the harder the pushback is gonna be.
We need to get beyond
that obvious question, "Are UFOs real?"
to what really matters.
Why are they here?
And what do they want from us?
- [energy thrums]
- [music subsides]
We can handle it, can't we?
[pensive music playing]
[bird singing]
So, we're on our way to KLAS-TV.
That's the place
where I've worked since 1981.
My day job for 43 years has been
a reporter at KLAS-TV Las Vegas.
- I'm ready when you are.
- We are ready.
[Knapp] In three, two
Area 51 still reigns
as a contradiction in terms,
the world's best-known secret base.
What whiz-bang tech might be brewing
out there in the shadows?
George Knapp, 8 News Now.
I had no idea when I moved here
what Las Vegas was all about.
I didn't know there was a place
called Area 51, or a Nevada test site,
the most nuked place in the world.
Didn't know about Nellis Air Force Base.
So many secrets are hidden here,
some of which have come to light.
But most are still shrouded in mystery.
UFOs found me,
instead of the other way around.
They walked in the door at KLAS one day.
A guy named John Lear, whose father,
Bill Lear, had developed the Learjet.
He walked into the station
with this big stack of documents.
He put 'em on the desk of my boss
and said, "This is the biggest story
of your career."
"It's about the UFO cover-up.
It's gonna make you famous."
My boss read four or five pages,
pushed the pile back,
and said, "This can't be true."
"If it were true,
I'd already know about it."
Before Lear left the station, I said,
"Hey, let me take a look at that stuff."
[news fanfare plays]
[Knapp] At the time,
I produced a little talk show.
I decided to see
if Lear would do the show.
And I put him on and just let him go.
I got really interested in this
about two years ago.
My father saw a UFO, and my brother did.
[tense music playing]
And he out comes,
spilling this amazing story.
[Lear] George,
I'll give you the bottom line.
I have found out
that the government has retrieved
between ten and 15 actual flying saucers.
They have between 30 and 50 alien bodies,
uh, in cryogenic storage.
They represent
at least five different civilizations.
[Knapp] Initially, I was skeptical.
But as soon as it aired,
the public started calling.
It was absolutely astonishing.
And I saw this huge saucer-shaped vehicle.
Yes, there has been an alien visitation.
They're here.
I do know what I saw.
It wasn't a plane. Wasn't a helicopter.
[Knapp] I started getting dozens,
then hundreds of messages, then thousands.
And eventually, over time,
people inside the government,
people who really did know the secrets
started talking to me and trusting me.
This is something
that we should be studying.
[Knapp] A lot of the information
that was shared with me,
I sat on for a long time.
But nothing stays secret forever.
And eventually, the dam broke.
December 2017,
the New York Times comes out with a story
that revealed the existence
of a previously unknown government program
that investigated UFOs.
Right after the New York Times story
comes out,
Congress starts having hearings
behind closed doors,
hearing from witnesses,
under oath, about UFOs.
[man] If we have things flying
over our airspace that is not ours,
do not coordinate with us,
doesn't belong there,
that is the definition of danger.
[Knapp] And last year,
we started getting hints
from members of Congress
that they wanted to have a hearing,
and they were looking for good witnesses,
and they asked for help lining them up.
These were some of the most decorated
high-ranking officials
to ever go public about UFO encounters.
These objects were approaching some
of the security guards at rapid speeds
before darting off.
It completely disabled
the radar on the aircraft.
It's far beyond,
actually, our material science
that we currently possess.
[woman] If you believe
we have crashed craft,
do we have the bodies of the pilots
who piloted this craft?
Biologics came
with some of these recoveries, yeah.
Were they, I guess,
human or nonhuman biologics?
Nonhuman, and that was the assessment
of people with direct knowledge
on the program I talked to
that are currently still on the program.
[Knapp] Dave Grusch testified
that there are crash-retrieval operations,
that there is
a reverse-engineering program,
that we've recovered technology
that's beyond anything that we have.
All those rumors
we've been hearing for years? It's true.
And I had a front row seat
for the whole thing.
I know I saw in the crowd there
George Knapp.
Breaking Area 51.
He's the reason I knew about that.
[Knapp] The window is now open wider
than it's ever been before
to tackle these big questions.
So I'm putting my decades of knowledge,
connections, and special access
to carve out a new path,
figuring out why they're here
and what they want from us.
This is the opportunity
I've been waiting for for 37 years,
and I intend to make the most of it.
This is serious.
It's been serious for a long time,
and it's been ignored for way too long.
- [music subsides]
- [birds singing]
[energetic music playing]
[Knapp] So, I had this phone conversation
out in the desert the other day
with a guy who wants to remain anonymous,
but I figured out who he is.
I know the name.
I ran this name past somebody
that I've known for a long time
and whose judgment I trust
to see if he's the real deal,
if we could confirm
anything of what he said.
And it turns out we did.
Uh, the guy I asked said this,
"I think he's a genuine guy."
"He did indeed speak to the Hill
and to the Pentagon's new office
investigating UFOs called Arrow."
So two of the things
that that witness told us.
And this guy I know says both are true.
He seems legit.
The next thing I want to do
is set up a meeting.
But he's not ready to commit to that yet.
[pensive music playing]
[Knapp] So, in the meantime,
I'm gonna focus my attention
on the biggest question at hand.
Why are they here?
To start, you have to look
at the behaviors that people have observed
time and again all around the world.
UFOs are often spotted
over military sites,
so they could be coming
to monitor our capabilities.
They seem to be interested
in our food supply
and occasionally instigate
close encounters with humans,
as if they're trying to understand
who we are and why we live the way we do.
[man] There it is again.
[Knapp] Most of the time,
they only reveal themselves
to one person or a small group
for a brief moment.
- And then they disappear.
- [loud whoosh]
[Knapp] Sometimes, they make
their presence known
to thousands of people
all at the same time.
Is this a show of force
or an attempt at communication?
Whatever this phenomena is, it's smart.
It's smarter than us.
This might be
more of an intelligence operation
to gather disparate series of threads
into some kind of a a unified tapestry
that explains the phenomena
we've been witnessing
for the past 70-plus years.
And the first thread
I want to pull on is a new lead
in one of the most widespread
UFO mysteries of them all.
- [intense music playing]
- [Knapp] Animal mutilations.
[on recording] Today,
nearly 15,000 mutilation reports
have been received.
Most often, the phantom surgeons
remove sex organs,
udders, rectums, eyes, or ears.
The animal mutilations is
maybe the most perplexing part
of the whole larger UFO picture.
These things have happened
all over the world.
[on recording] The carcasses
are usually drained of blood,
but blood is rarely found on the ground.
There are occasional burn marks,
and the cutting is performed
with scalpel-like precision.
[mysterious music playing]
[Knapp] I started looking into
animal mutilations in the late '80s.
We had a rash of cases
in Nevada, in my home state.
And to this day,
we don't know who's doing it,
and we don't know why they're doing it,
but strange aerial activity
has been reported
in conjunction with these mutilations
since the beginning of the phenomena.
[on recording] Scattered stories
of carved-up livestock
and strange lights in the sky
date back to the 1890s in the US,
but it wasn't until the early 1970s
that a pattern began to emerge.
[Knapp] What's the deal?
Are they harvesting cows?
Are they doing
their own kind of investigation
or a survey of our food chain?
Are they messing with us
to see how we'll respond?
We don't know the answers to this,
but it does seem to be
some sort of a symbiotic connection
between things in the sky
that are unidentified
and these strange mystery mutilations
that have happened all over North America,
all over the world.
[rhythmic music playing]
[Knapp] The lead I'm following up on today
is open and active.
Ranchers in this part of Oregon
have been reporting
these strange mutilations.
There's a sheriff named Jeremiah Holmes
who's been looking into these cases.
And like so many other lawmen
all over North America
who've tried to get to the bottom of this,
this guy is perplexed.
I'm hoping that by coming
to help investigate this mystery,
we can get a better understanding
of why this keeps happening.
And we need to consider all possibilities.
So I decided to ask a close contact,
Doug Laux, to meet me out here
and to hopefully help
come up with some answers.
I'm a former CIA case officer.
In Hollywood parlance,
they would call that a spy.
During my time in the agency,
I was an undercover field operative.
You're going to live a life of lies
and a life of alias,
but, uh, it helps you to smoke out
when people are lying
to you pretty quickly. [chuckles]
[Knapp] What impresses me about Doug
is his boots-on-the-ground experience.
I mean, he's put it all on the line.
He knows about counterintelligence
and the tricks of the trade.
- Good to see you.
- Same.
[Knapp] He's not a UFO guy,
so he still has a set of fresh eyes
and can look at this world
in ways that maybe it's hard
for me to look at it anymore.
- Thanks for meeting with us.
- You bet.
We were told that you,
um, were in ranching.
- Before you were in law enforcement.
- I was.
And maybe you had some experience
with this whole mutilation mystery before.
- I did, yeah.
- [Knapp] What happened?
So, in 2004, I was working
on a ranch down in Southern Oregon,
and, uh, during my time there,
there was, uh, several mutilations.
I think I know the answer,
but were they solved?
No.
How many reports
has your department received?
Since our first case
in 2019, I believe that was,
um, we've had a total of five.
Were there any similarities
between the five reports
that you've had where you can go,
"This might be the same individual
who's doing these five things"?
So, the reproductive organs are gone,
ear was gone,
tongue was gone, nose was gone.
Usually, part of the cheek was razor cut.
There's some that say,
"Well, we have the predators,
we have the cults,
we have the extraterrestrial."
There's some that'll say
it's the government.
[Knapp] People have been trying
to debunk animal mutilations
since they were first reported.
Ranchers in New Mexico,
when there first became
sort of an epidemic of mutilations,
cows and and, uh, sheep and horses,
they hired a former FBI agent to come in.
It was a whitewash.
He did minimal investigations
and came back with a report
that has been cited over and over again.
"Oh yeah, these are predators."
"These are coyotes
and mountain lions doing this." It's not.
Coyotes don't cut things up
with a scalpel.
Some people like to say
it's gotta be devil worshipers.
Well, where are these
laser-wielding Beelzebubs?
How do they keep from getting caught?
Ten thousand cases,
and not one of 'em has ever been caught.
Those are some pretty stealthy
devil worshipers.
No lawman wants to say,
"Maybe it's aliens."
- That, you know You don't wanna say that.
- Right. No.
But there's something weird going on here.
I mean, as an investigator,
we can't investigate anything with a slant
'cause then we could have the potential
of ignoring evidence
that may say something else.
The why sometimes answers the who.
And so, if we don't have a why,
it doesn't help us find a who.
[Knapp] I know ranchers don't always like
to come forward when these things happen.
Who do you have who might talk to us?
Dave Hunt was the first, uh
He had the first case that I had.
Didn't really want
to talk about it right at first.
But, um, since then,
he's been more, uh, open,
and it might be somebody
you guys can talk to.
I know that, uh, Grant County,
Harney County, uh,
Crook County, Deschutes County
recently, um, have all had cases.
[Laux] I'm definitely not going into
this investigation making any assumptions.
But if I start to see patterns,
it's not a coincidence.
It's a pattern.
So, what's causing this repetition?
Why is this happening?
Something is effectuating this to happen.
And I wanna know what it is.
[music fades out]
[energetic music playing]
[Knapp] Sergeant Holmes helped us secure
two different leads
on recent cattle mutilation incidents
that are around 200 miles apart.
I'm gonna look into one
of Wheeler County's open cases,
while Doug's gonna meet
with a former ranch manager
in Harney County.
He's outside
Sergeant Holmes's jurisdiction,
but the case made waves
all across law enforcement
in eastern Oregon.
We're just pulling into
Burns, Oregon, right now.
Not the easiest town to get to,
I'll tell you that much.
I have a contact here named Colby.
He experienced directly
firsthand cattle mutilations.
There's nothing better you can do
than come directly to the source
and get it straight
out of the horse's mouth.
From what I've heard of Colby,
he's not really a believer in aliens,
and I can appreciate that,
but the very fact
he's willing to speak with me at all,
that means this guy really wants answers.
Colby?
- Good morning. Doug?
- [Laux] Doug Laux.
- Yeah. How are you?
- Nice to meet you.
- Appreciate you meeting me this early.
- Absolutely. Happy to have you here.
My name is Colby Marshall.
I grew up right here, in Harney County.
My family's been in this community
for about six generations.
I'm raising my kids here now.
I'm gonna lay these out
on the tailgate here.
[Marshall] We had five range bulls
that were murdered and mutilated
within a 24-hour period of time.
Right up in here
is where my cowboy found the first bull,
which was really a weird situation.
But then after he found the second bull,
we knew something was goin' on.
- Same day, two bulls? Yeah.
- [Marshall] Exactly right.
We contacted the state police.
We contacted the Forest Service.
We got in touch with the county sheriff,
and we had them all come out
and try to find forensic evidence
that that would lead us to somebody
that had perpetrated the crime.
Including offering a $25,000 reward.
It didn't yield anything.
It'll be interesting to go
and take a look at what we'll see.
Well, I'd like to see it in person,
so if you're ready,
I mean, let's hop in and do it.
[intense music playing]
[Knapp] Just made it over to a town
called Fossil, Oregon, to meet Dave Hunt.
According to the sheriff, Dave Hunt
is solid as the Rock of Gibraltar.
Uh, absolute solid citizen.
He spent his entire life here.
He's a fifth-generation rancher,
lived on this land for 70 years.
It took us a while to talk him
into speaking with us about it.
His neighbors are the same way.
It's at least a dozen of his neighbors
that we know of
that have had similar cases.
They're not trying to become celebrities
or start a podcast.
They want this to go away.
I've chased these kind of stories
all over North America,
and a lot of ranchers
don't wanna talk about it.
Yeah, it's kind of tough to talk about
when you're born and raised around cattle,
and you know everything they do
and everything that can happen to 'em,
and then you see something
that isn't normal.
You just, like,
want to sit on it for a little bit.
So, tell me about your animals,
which ones you lost.
The bull happened in December.
The cow happened
the following June or July.
I'm not the only person it happens to.
There's, you know,
in John Day and Seneca and Antelope.
- And, you know, they're all around.
- How many total do you think in this area?
A lot. Fifteen, 20.
Over what period of time?
Oh, in the last four years.
Three, four years.
I understand that you've had
some other weird stuff
that happened preceding this.
Um, I don't know what caused 'em,
but we have a series of crop circles
that come in the field.
Um, they're in a pattern,
and they kind of come and go.
In the spring,
you can see 'em really good.
And they happened about
around about the same time.
Um, any strange things in the sky,
uh, that you associate with this?
Yeah, I have. I've seen
I'm gonna call it
a unidentified flying object.
- Describe it.
- [Hunt] It was round.
It had green rectangle windows
around the middle
and round red ones around the top.
How long was it sittin' there?
[chuckling] Long enough
for me to go get a rifle to shoot at it.
- Did you shoot?
- No, because this is a funny story.
It's still sitting there, right?
And my wife called me,
and I came out, I looked at it,
and I go, "I'm gonna shoot it."
So, I've got a rifle,
and the funniest thing,
because it's sitting right there,
and as soon as I put the scope on it,
disappeared.
Just vanished?
Did not go up, down, left, or right. Gone.
I'm not surprised to hear
that there's UFO activity
in association with these mutilation cases
because that's been reported
all over the world.
But some of the other aspects
of this mystery
that we've just had unveiled to us today,
crop circles, right out here.
These gigantic circles that appear
out of nowhere in their pasture.
And then for the next couple of years,
the grass, the hay that grows there
is bigger and stronger
than anything around it.
Where did they come from?
Why aren't there other government agencies
here investigating this?
Is it because
they don't believe the witnesses?
Or they're not surprised?
Show me where this happened?
Where the cow and the bull were found?
All right.
[energetic, rhythmic music playing]
- [Laux] I know the price of bulls.
- [Marshall] Right.
I mean, you're talking
at least $5,000 or $10,000.
Each one of those hits
is about a $20,000 cost.
If somebody totals your car,
and it's worth $20,000,
you're gonna be really furious about that.
What if somebody totals five of your cars?
The most probable cause
is Colby's got enemies,
and somebody just cost him 100 grand.
- That's right.
- Of course, the question becomes why.
Have you ever considered, like,
something more, like, paranormal? Or
I'm sure people have asked you,
because people made claims it was aliens.
- Right.
- Do you have any thoughts on that at all?
I don't [sighs]
I don't think it's aliens per se.
I think it is a group of individuals.
[Laux] I don't have
any preconceived notions.
I know a lot of people do.
And the more you can provide
to prove your situation,
obviously, the more I'm gonna get
on your level,
the more I'm going to believe you.
Especially if we're talking about things
that might seem outlandish at first.
[Marshall] When the cowboy found
the first bull, it was right here.
[chuckles] God! I was not expecting
the bones to still be here.
[Marshall] Yeah.
[Laux] Walking up,
and I'm seeing the bones in front of me,
this is surreal.
[Marshall] The animal was laying there
with no genitalia.
All the reproductive organs
have been removed
with no other harm to the animal at all.
Not to be crass,
but why do you want bulls' balls?
You can get 'em from a butcher for free.
There was no blood
around the animal or on the carcass.
And even to the point
that the carcass over the next months
sort of melted into the ground.
It wasn't torn apart
by the scavengers or anything.
[unsettling music playing]
[Laux] Just doing math in my head,
it's gonna have 50 liters of blood.
- Correct.
- That's a hell of a lot of blood.
That's right, and it's gonna make a mess.
- I mean, a lot.
- Yes.
I mean, how do you do that
without, like, spilling a single drop?
Then that means that this bull
had to be exsanguinated beforehand.
Before they removed its genitalia,
they would have had
to have pulled all its blood.
Yeah.
[unsettling music fades]
[Marshall] Right here, you can see
just right underneath those trees,
that is the bones
of the second mutilated bull.
[Laux] I see it from here, yeah.
[gentle music playing]
[Marshall] Just like the first bull that
we saw, Doug, we can walk up here.
- We can see there's still bones here.
- [Laux] Mm-hmm.
No scavengers, no predators
got to this animal and tore it into pieces
and drug it all over the place.
These bones are just clean.
They're not all gnawed and chewed up,
and they're not all broken into pieces
um, by coyotes and other critters.
- [Laux] By teeth.
- [Marshall] Right.
This just has to be, then,
that the scavenger animals
smelled something,
and it's just innate in them
that they knew not to touch this meat.
- What, there's five, right?
- That's correct.
So, I mean, they were untouched as well
by, like, scavengers.
- That's right.
- So
There's no such thing as coincidence.
I mean, this didn't happen in a vacuum.
- There's just no way.
- Yeah. Absolutely.
What kind of gives me goosebumps the most
is how complex it was
and that no mistakes were made.
I understand why people believe
that aliens are responsible.
The one thing that I am certain of
is that there was a purpose to this.
Someone or something
forced this to happen,
and this is
an extremely advanced operation.
- [gentle music fades]
- [breeze blows]
[energetic music playing]
This is the pasture right here
that we keep these bulls in.
We'll just stop right up here.
So, this is the location.
- [Knapp] It's right here?
- Right here.
So, this bull is laying right here,
with his face pointing that way,
with his front feet out.
It laid in a position
I've never seen a bull or a cow lay in.
Then there's no tracks,
and there's no blood.
His nose is gone, his lips are gone,
his tongue is gone, his ears are gone,
his tail is skinned.
All precision I call 'em laser cuts.
They're heat cuts
because the hair's curled
like it's singed right by the cuts.
We're talking about a time of year
this ground is covered with snow?
- Yeah, four inches.
- Four inches of snow.
- Yeah.
- And there are no tracks.
There's no tracks.
And no blood.
Not one drop.
That animal had no blood in him.
My vet, she said probably the only way
you could get all of the blood
out of the animal
was to bleed it while it's alive
so that the animal
pumps all the blood out.
- That's a horrible way to go, huh?
- [chuckles] Yeah.
I know the rest of my bulls
that were in this pasture
were petrified to death.
They were scared to death,
and my bulls are never scared.
I can pet 'em.
If you're a cowman,
that'll tell you more than anything else.
Something super weird happened
to scare those bulls that bad.
[Knapp] A long time ago,
one of the first investigative reporters
to look into this
called it an alien harvest.
And I don't know that that's what it is,
but it sure seems like somebody
is harvesting bits and pieces from cattle.
And it's not the same pieces
that we harvest.
This is how I found this cow,
dead with her head up.
They were about six months apart.
December and then July.
Gravity will tell you
that that head's gonna go to the ground
the instant she dies.
Well, that cow died,
and her head's still in the air.
- [Knapp] This is really weird and creepy.
- [Hunt] Yeah.
Why is it not a person?
Why do you know it's not people?
I've been a cowman for 70 years.
I know what everything looks like
that can kill a cow.
You know, and that's not one of
That wasn't there.
You can't pick a 2,500-pound bull up
and position him in that position
and then do all the cuts
and take everything off
and drain him of blood
without leavin' a track.
It just can't happen.
In my opinion,
something picked the bull up,
did all of whatever they were doing to it,
and then set it back down.
If whatever came in and killed this bull
was leaving no tracks,
what's to keep 'em from killing
ten more tomorrow, you know? Uh
- I mean, it'll wipe you out, you know?
- Or people.
- Yeah.
- It's like a harvest.
- [Hunt] It is.
- Like they're harvesting.
They are harvesting.
That's what they're doing.
They don't just come out here
and kill him and leave him.
They harvest the part
that they want off of every animal.
[Knapp] Dave actually has a son
who says he's had his own experience
with things he can't explain here.
- Hi, George.
- [son] My wife, Ginger.
Ginger, nice to meet you.
So, this is where you saw it, huh?
Yeah. We were just driving by,
and we seen a big buck, you know.
Everybody always asks us.
They want to see these big bucks.
So I stopped and took a video of it,
right on the edge of that cut right there.
And I didn't notice anything on it
at the time.
And later on, I showed it to somebody.
And they asked me,
"Hey, what the heck is that?"
There's something right behind it
- Can I just take a look at it?
- [Stacy] Yeah.
- [Knapp] This is the buck.
- [Stacy] See that behind it?
- [Knapp] Something walking behind it.
- Yeah. But
This is a wild animal.
[Knapp] And they're really spooky.
[tense music playing]
[Stacy] You can't get that close to it
and it not know it.
- It should have reacted.
- Oh, absolutely. It'd bolted out of there.
So, if it was a person,
that deer would have
It would have known. It would have looked.
You know, it's focused on me.
And if it's that close to it,
right there behind it,
that thing would have bugged out.
When you blow that up
and slow it down, it gets really weird.
[Knapp] Mind if I have a copy
of that video and share it online?
- [Ginger] Leave it.
- Absolutely. [laughs]
When you add it to all the other stuff
that's been going on,
it really gets weird.
It seems to play in
with the other odd activity.
After this bull and the cow happened,
my daughter was out on the porch
in the summertime at night,
and, uh, one of the triangular,
three-lighted
whatever they are flies over.
She yells at me. I run in, grab my binocs.
I'm looking at this thing.
And it's low and slow,
and it is quiet as a church mouse.
- Floats over?
- [Stacy] Yep.
- Could you see any insignia or anything?
- I couldn't.
It just looked like a bunch of mechanical,
you know, tubing, wire, all that stuff
under this thing,
and three big lights in the corner of it.
Like I said,
we try not to think about it a lot
because you can't explain it,
so let's not lose any sleep
worrying about it.
We don't get stressed about it. We just
- [Knapp] Not much you can do.
- It is what it is.
[Knapp] Law enforcement doesn't know.
You hope it goes somewhere else.
[Stacy] Absolutely.
[Knapp] What looks
like a humanoid walking on a hill,
two major UFO sightings
among the family members,
two classic mutilation cases,
and crop circles all in one place
suggest there is a connection
between all these strange phenomena.
Now we need to take
everything we've gathered
and bring it to a colleague of mine
who is uniquely qualified to help us
connect the dots of why this is happening.
[energetic music playing]
[Knapp] I don't think there's a person
who's done more hands-on investigations
of animal mutilation cases
than Colm Kelleher.
Colm has a PhD. He's a biochemist.
He's been at the scene of dozens
of mutilation cases all over the world.
He's sampled those.
He's sent them to labs.
He's had it analyzed.
He's worked with veterinarians.
He's developed some theories
about what's going on.
So, we spent a couple of days
talking to ranchers and lawmen up there.
They've had a dozen cases in this area.
At least a dozen, maybe more.
But the ranchers, you know,
they don't always report 'em.
Our two ranchers have different opinions
as far as who's responsible for this.
Uh, the gentleman I spoke to in Burns
thinks this was done by humans.
[Knapp] This guy thinks it's aliens.
They think the answer is there,
that somebody from up there
is visiting and harvesting.
For what purpose? I don't know.
It did remind me
of a field sampling operation.
You know, I don't want to go
much further than that
because, I mean, it's really a hypothesis
based on repeated patterns
of the same tissues
being removed from these animals.
What we found really interesting
is that no predators went after these.
And, as he said, they eventually
just melted into the earth.
- [Knapp] Would you say that's typical?
- [Kelleher] Yes, it is typical.
The early days of NIDS, the National
Institute for Discovery Science,
we set up a surveillance camera
on the animal
to see if any predators showed up.
And for two nights in a row,
nothing came near the cow,
and this was this was a place
that was full of coyotes.
That surveillance camera did not lie.
There was not a single animal.
[Knapp] Why is it so difficult,
getting to the bottom of this?
I think the cattle mutilation phenomenon
is, by its nature, deceptive.
Whatever is doing this
are incredibly skilled.
They're surgically adept.
They have, uh, equipment
that is very sophisticated.
I mean, this was a
a ritualistic display
of raw power and finesse.
I mean, it basically is a form
of psychological intimidation.
The evidence suggests
that they're always one step ahead.
[music fades]
Here's one of the thoughts
that rattles around in my head at night.
If they can do this to livestock,
what does it mean for us?
So, the cattle mutilation phenomena,
it's not an encouraging sort of a sign.
How often do they express hostility
toward humans?
There are medical, uh,
injury cases that we've studied.
But you could never really define
the agenda of the UFO phenomenon.
You know, were these people
just in the wrong place at the wrong time?
And they got injured as a result
of being too close
to a "propulsion system,"
to a directed energy weapon,
or whatever caused the injury.
The Colares, Brazil, case
was very different.
[tense music playing]
[Kelleher] Colares Island
in northeastern Brazil
was besieged for somewhere
between six months and 12 months
by dozens and dozens
of different-sized objects,
and they were hunting people.
You guys studied that.
Yeah. There was an obvious intent
to injure people,
and, you know,
in some cases, people got killed.
I first heard about the Colares case
when I started down this path,
uh, back in the late '80s and early '90s.
Even back then, it seemed weird.
It doesn't seem to really fit the pattern
of what I had known
about UFOs by that point.
I was reading everything I could find,
but this one just didn't fit
what you see everywhere else.
[pensive music playing]
[Knapp] In the beginning,
I wasn't necessarily intimidated
by the idea of alien visitors.
I thought if we could confirm it,
that'd be the biggest thing
in human history.
As I've gone on, I've learned about
some darker aspects of the phenomena.
And Colm is right.
The Colares, Brazil, incident might be
the most extraordinary of them all.
In late 1977, hundreds of people
along the Tocantins River
were attacked and injured
by these things that came out of the sky.
Some reportedly died
from their encounters.
Images of the injured people
went out all over the world.
It has become one of the best documented
but least understood UFO incidents
in all of history.
There's been a lot of secrecy
in that country, as there has been here.
- Thiago, how you doing?
- I'm fine, George. Thank you. How are you?
I appreciate you carving out
some time for me. Um
So, all the inquiries
I have made about Colares,
the story is, um,
the witnesses won't talk,
the people who were injured won't talk.
Are all those still true?
In the past, they were afraid
if they talk, something could happen.
But the stigma is changing a lot,
and much, much of this is because of
what happened in the United States.
The the the public and society,
you know, pressing the government
to disclose all the things about the UFOs.
If you go there, you can find people
that have been attacked by these lights.
This phenomena, it still happens today.
[dramatic stinger]
You're saying it's ongoing now?
They're seeing the same thing happen,
and they're scared
if what happened there in the past
can happen now, in the present.
[tense music playing]
[Knapp] If this is going on even now,
I've got to get there and investigate it.
There's a recent contact of mine
who has relevant expertise,
and I've asked her to come over
and talk about it
and maybe join our investigation.
My name is Vernice "Flygirl" Armour.
All my friends call me Vee.
And after two tours in Iraq,
I became America's
first Black female combat pilot.
[Knapp] I'm not the smartest guy
in the room.
Among the many gaps in my expertise,
aviation and aeronautics.
I don't know any of that stuff.
She's a former Marine helicopter pilot.
[knocking on door]
[Knapp] She knows how they operate
and what other kinds of craft there are,
what landing lights look like.
- Hey, Vee. Welcome.
- [Armour] George.
[Knapp] She worked as a police officer,
so she knows how to do investigations.
She is a bit of a badass.
You know, we've been chasing
this cattle mutilation stuff.
- It's pretty creepy.
- It is.
For the most part,
they don't attack humans.
We're gonna look at a case where they did.
This is Operation Prato.
This is, uh, an investigation in Brazil.
Uh, dozens of people were burned
with something like lasers.
[Armour] "Abruptly making 90-degree turns,
changing speed above 35,000 feet."
We don't have any technology.
Yeah, we don't have it now.
We sure didn't have it back then,
so it's something else.
As a military pilot,
we're trained for all types of situations.
Traditional, nontraditional.
How do we train for something
that far exceeds
our tactical capabilities?
Like, it's literally defying the laws
of physics and aerodynamics as we know it.
You know, if we're ever gonna figure out
the intentions,
what do they want,
what's their interest in us,
you have to look at the dark side as well.
This is dark.
So, we can go down to Brazil,
see what we can find out.
[Armour] Let's go.
Did they seem to intend harm?
What were the capabilities
of these things that were in the sky?
What did the Brazilian Air Force learn?
Did they get solid physical evidence?
If these are aliens,
and they're back, why there?
Why these people?
I'm gonna find out.
[suspenseful music playing]
[music fades out]
[muffled clattering inside SUV]
[line ringing]
- [call connects]
- [man] Hello?
You know my name and what I do, right?
Yes, I do.
You are, uh, what we would classify
as a whistleblower.
Yes, that would be exactly what I am.
Have you, uh, spoken in front of Congress?
Yes, I have.
Behind closed doors, of course.
Nothin' in a public setting yet.
Right. I want to be able to share this
with the world, but I need proof.
I could take you to one of these locations
that could prove that this stuff exists.
So what are we talking about exactly?
Antigravity, advanced weapons systems.
There are technologies
out there that exist
that is far more remarkable
compared to just transportation.
Sounds like you're indicating
that the US military and its contractors
are able to reproduce this stuff
on their own.
Yes, they have, and they've been doing
that successfully for over 50 years.
I mean, how how can we help you
break this story?
Is there a way that we can move forward
and have some solid proof
that would convince anybody
that what you're saying is true?
Well, I I'm working on it.
It's a very hard place to be.
I have to respect the safety
of these insiders as well as myself
and anybody associated with this.
And this also includes you, George.
[music peaks, fades]
[energetic music playing]
[Knapp] There is
enormous amount of evidence
to suggest that we do have
a nonhuman intelligence
interacting with us on this planet.
[music swells]
[Knapp] We don't know where they're from.
They can do things that we can't do.
Our military knows
that there is an intense, ongoing interest
by whatever they are
in our most sensitive installations.
[pilot] Wow! What is that?
[Knapp] This is real,
and I'm right in the middle of it.
My name is George Knapp.
People know me as the UFO reporter.
I've covered this story
from pretty much every angle
for probably longer than any other
mainstream journalist in the country.
All we want to know is what's going on.
I didn't come into this topic
as some sort of a UFO believer.
I always approached it as a news story.
But after talking to eyewitnesses
What's going on up there could be
the most important event in history.
the experts
Extraterrestrial hypothesis
is entirely viable
and, in my view, reasonable.
and following the evidence
all over the world,
it's impossible for me
to explain it all away.
But for so long,
the truth has been kept under wraps
because of social stigma
and government secrecy.
Someone said, "You open your mouth,
and that's the end
of your retirement pay."
[Knapp] People who came forward
could face real consequences.
The government has lied to us about UFOs,
has withheld information,
has spied on UFO organizations,
and has discredited UFO witnesses.
It was very brutal.
Some of the tactics they used
hurt me both professionally
and personally, to be quite frank. Yeah.
I was banging my head against a brick wall
for at least 20, 25 years,
trying to get this topic
into the mainstream.
And it seemed like a lost cause.
But now, the whole playing field
has changed.
We're looking at all types
of anomalous phenomena.
[Knapp] And even Congress are now
takin' this seriously.
It's probably the most credible
UFO sighting in history.
[Knapp] But the closer the public gets
to the crashed saucers, to the bodies,
the harder the pushback is gonna be.
We need to get beyond
that obvious question, "Are UFOs real?"
to what really matters.
Why are they here?
And what do they want from us?
- [energy thrums]
- [music subsides]
We can handle it, can't we?
[pensive music playing]
[bird singing]
So, we're on our way to KLAS-TV.
That's the place
where I've worked since 1981.
My day job for 43 years has been
a reporter at KLAS-TV Las Vegas.
- I'm ready when you are.
- We are ready.
[Knapp] In three, two
Area 51 still reigns
as a contradiction in terms,
the world's best-known secret base.
What whiz-bang tech might be brewing
out there in the shadows?
George Knapp, 8 News Now.
I had no idea when I moved here
what Las Vegas was all about.
I didn't know there was a place
called Area 51, or a Nevada test site,
the most nuked place in the world.
Didn't know about Nellis Air Force Base.
So many secrets are hidden here,
some of which have come to light.
But most are still shrouded in mystery.
UFOs found me,
instead of the other way around.
They walked in the door at KLAS one day.
A guy named John Lear, whose father,
Bill Lear, had developed the Learjet.
He walked into the station
with this big stack of documents.
He put 'em on the desk of my boss
and said, "This is the biggest story
of your career."
"It's about the UFO cover-up.
It's gonna make you famous."
My boss read four or five pages,
pushed the pile back,
and said, "This can't be true."
"If it were true,
I'd already know about it."
Before Lear left the station, I said,
"Hey, let me take a look at that stuff."
[news fanfare plays]
[Knapp] At the time,
I produced a little talk show.
I decided to see
if Lear would do the show.
And I put him on and just let him go.
I got really interested in this
about two years ago.
My father saw a UFO, and my brother did.
[tense music playing]
And he out comes,
spilling this amazing story.
[Lear] George,
I'll give you the bottom line.
I have found out
that the government has retrieved
between ten and 15 actual flying saucers.
They have between 30 and 50 alien bodies,
uh, in cryogenic storage.
They represent
at least five different civilizations.
[Knapp] Initially, I was skeptical.
But as soon as it aired,
the public started calling.
It was absolutely astonishing.
And I saw this huge saucer-shaped vehicle.
Yes, there has been an alien visitation.
They're here.
I do know what I saw.
It wasn't a plane. Wasn't a helicopter.
[Knapp] I started getting dozens,
then hundreds of messages, then thousands.
And eventually, over time,
people inside the government,
people who really did know the secrets
started talking to me and trusting me.
This is something
that we should be studying.
[Knapp] A lot of the information
that was shared with me,
I sat on for a long time.
But nothing stays secret forever.
And eventually, the dam broke.
December 2017,
the New York Times comes out with a story
that revealed the existence
of a previously unknown government program
that investigated UFOs.
Right after the New York Times story
comes out,
Congress starts having hearings
behind closed doors,
hearing from witnesses,
under oath, about UFOs.
[man] If we have things flying
over our airspace that is not ours,
do not coordinate with us,
doesn't belong there,
that is the definition of danger.
[Knapp] And last year,
we started getting hints
from members of Congress
that they wanted to have a hearing,
and they were looking for good witnesses,
and they asked for help lining them up.
These were some of the most decorated
high-ranking officials
to ever go public about UFO encounters.
These objects were approaching some
of the security guards at rapid speeds
before darting off.
It completely disabled
the radar on the aircraft.
It's far beyond,
actually, our material science
that we currently possess.
[woman] If you believe
we have crashed craft,
do we have the bodies of the pilots
who piloted this craft?
Biologics came
with some of these recoveries, yeah.
Were they, I guess,
human or nonhuman biologics?
Nonhuman, and that was the assessment
of people with direct knowledge
on the program I talked to
that are currently still on the program.
[Knapp] Dave Grusch testified
that there are crash-retrieval operations,
that there is
a reverse-engineering program,
that we've recovered technology
that's beyond anything that we have.
All those rumors
we've been hearing for years? It's true.
And I had a front row seat
for the whole thing.
I know I saw in the crowd there
George Knapp.
Breaking Area 51.
He's the reason I knew about that.
[Knapp] The window is now open wider
than it's ever been before
to tackle these big questions.
So I'm putting my decades of knowledge,
connections, and special access
to carve out a new path,
figuring out why they're here
and what they want from us.
This is the opportunity
I've been waiting for for 37 years,
and I intend to make the most of it.
This is serious.
It's been serious for a long time,
and it's been ignored for way too long.
- [music subsides]
- [birds singing]
[energetic music playing]
[Knapp] So, I had this phone conversation
out in the desert the other day
with a guy who wants to remain anonymous,
but I figured out who he is.
I know the name.
I ran this name past somebody
that I've known for a long time
and whose judgment I trust
to see if he's the real deal,
if we could confirm
anything of what he said.
And it turns out we did.
Uh, the guy I asked said this,
"I think he's a genuine guy."
"He did indeed speak to the Hill
and to the Pentagon's new office
investigating UFOs called Arrow."
So two of the things
that that witness told us.
And this guy I know says both are true.
He seems legit.
The next thing I want to do
is set up a meeting.
But he's not ready to commit to that yet.
[pensive music playing]
[Knapp] So, in the meantime,
I'm gonna focus my attention
on the biggest question at hand.
Why are they here?
To start, you have to look
at the behaviors that people have observed
time and again all around the world.
UFOs are often spotted
over military sites,
so they could be coming
to monitor our capabilities.
They seem to be interested
in our food supply
and occasionally instigate
close encounters with humans,
as if they're trying to understand
who we are and why we live the way we do.
[man] There it is again.
[Knapp] Most of the time,
they only reveal themselves
to one person or a small group
for a brief moment.
- And then they disappear.
- [loud whoosh]
[Knapp] Sometimes, they make
their presence known
to thousands of people
all at the same time.
Is this a show of force
or an attempt at communication?
Whatever this phenomena is, it's smart.
It's smarter than us.
This might be
more of an intelligence operation
to gather disparate series of threads
into some kind of a a unified tapestry
that explains the phenomena
we've been witnessing
for the past 70-plus years.
And the first thread
I want to pull on is a new lead
in one of the most widespread
UFO mysteries of them all.
- [intense music playing]
- [Knapp] Animal mutilations.
[on recording] Today,
nearly 15,000 mutilation reports
have been received.
Most often, the phantom surgeons
remove sex organs,
udders, rectums, eyes, or ears.
The animal mutilations is
maybe the most perplexing part
of the whole larger UFO picture.
These things have happened
all over the world.
[on recording] The carcasses
are usually drained of blood,
but blood is rarely found on the ground.
There are occasional burn marks,
and the cutting is performed
with scalpel-like precision.
[mysterious music playing]
[Knapp] I started looking into
animal mutilations in the late '80s.
We had a rash of cases
in Nevada, in my home state.
And to this day,
we don't know who's doing it,
and we don't know why they're doing it,
but strange aerial activity
has been reported
in conjunction with these mutilations
since the beginning of the phenomena.
[on recording] Scattered stories
of carved-up livestock
and strange lights in the sky
date back to the 1890s in the US,
but it wasn't until the early 1970s
that a pattern began to emerge.
[Knapp] What's the deal?
Are they harvesting cows?
Are they doing
their own kind of investigation
or a survey of our food chain?
Are they messing with us
to see how we'll respond?
We don't know the answers to this,
but it does seem to be
some sort of a symbiotic connection
between things in the sky
that are unidentified
and these strange mystery mutilations
that have happened all over North America,
all over the world.
[rhythmic music playing]
[Knapp] The lead I'm following up on today
is open and active.
Ranchers in this part of Oregon
have been reporting
these strange mutilations.
There's a sheriff named Jeremiah Holmes
who's been looking into these cases.
And like so many other lawmen
all over North America
who've tried to get to the bottom of this,
this guy is perplexed.
I'm hoping that by coming
to help investigate this mystery,
we can get a better understanding
of why this keeps happening.
And we need to consider all possibilities.
So I decided to ask a close contact,
Doug Laux, to meet me out here
and to hopefully help
come up with some answers.
I'm a former CIA case officer.
In Hollywood parlance,
they would call that a spy.
During my time in the agency,
I was an undercover field operative.
You're going to live a life of lies
and a life of alias,
but, uh, it helps you to smoke out
when people are lying
to you pretty quickly. [chuckles]
[Knapp] What impresses me about Doug
is his boots-on-the-ground experience.
I mean, he's put it all on the line.
He knows about counterintelligence
and the tricks of the trade.
- Good to see you.
- Same.
[Knapp] He's not a UFO guy,
so he still has a set of fresh eyes
and can look at this world
in ways that maybe it's hard
for me to look at it anymore.
- Thanks for meeting with us.
- You bet.
We were told that you,
um, were in ranching.
- Before you were in law enforcement.
- I was.
And maybe you had some experience
with this whole mutilation mystery before.
- I did, yeah.
- [Knapp] What happened?
So, in 2004, I was working
on a ranch down in Southern Oregon,
and, uh, during my time there,
there was, uh, several mutilations.
I think I know the answer,
but were they solved?
No.
How many reports
has your department received?
Since our first case
in 2019, I believe that was,
um, we've had a total of five.
Were there any similarities
between the five reports
that you've had where you can go,
"This might be the same individual
who's doing these five things"?
So, the reproductive organs are gone,
ear was gone,
tongue was gone, nose was gone.
Usually, part of the cheek was razor cut.
There's some that say,
"Well, we have the predators,
we have the cults,
we have the extraterrestrial."
There's some that'll say
it's the government.
[Knapp] People have been trying
to debunk animal mutilations
since they were first reported.
Ranchers in New Mexico,
when there first became
sort of an epidemic of mutilations,
cows and and, uh, sheep and horses,
they hired a former FBI agent to come in.
It was a whitewash.
He did minimal investigations
and came back with a report
that has been cited over and over again.
"Oh yeah, these are predators."
"These are coyotes
and mountain lions doing this." It's not.
Coyotes don't cut things up
with a scalpel.
Some people like to say
it's gotta be devil worshipers.
Well, where are these
laser-wielding Beelzebubs?
How do they keep from getting caught?
Ten thousand cases,
and not one of 'em has ever been caught.
Those are some pretty stealthy
devil worshipers.
No lawman wants to say,
"Maybe it's aliens."
- That, you know You don't wanna say that.
- Right. No.
But there's something weird going on here.
I mean, as an investigator,
we can't investigate anything with a slant
'cause then we could have the potential
of ignoring evidence
that may say something else.
The why sometimes answers the who.
And so, if we don't have a why,
it doesn't help us find a who.
[Knapp] I know ranchers don't always like
to come forward when these things happen.
Who do you have who might talk to us?
Dave Hunt was the first, uh
He had the first case that I had.
Didn't really want
to talk about it right at first.
But, um, since then,
he's been more, uh, open,
and it might be somebody
you guys can talk to.
I know that, uh, Grant County,
Harney County, uh,
Crook County, Deschutes County
recently, um, have all had cases.
[Laux] I'm definitely not going into
this investigation making any assumptions.
But if I start to see patterns,
it's not a coincidence.
It's a pattern.
So, what's causing this repetition?
Why is this happening?
Something is effectuating this to happen.
And I wanna know what it is.
[music fades out]
[energetic music playing]
[Knapp] Sergeant Holmes helped us secure
two different leads
on recent cattle mutilation incidents
that are around 200 miles apart.
I'm gonna look into one
of Wheeler County's open cases,
while Doug's gonna meet
with a former ranch manager
in Harney County.
He's outside
Sergeant Holmes's jurisdiction,
but the case made waves
all across law enforcement
in eastern Oregon.
We're just pulling into
Burns, Oregon, right now.
Not the easiest town to get to,
I'll tell you that much.
I have a contact here named Colby.
He experienced directly
firsthand cattle mutilations.
There's nothing better you can do
than come directly to the source
and get it straight
out of the horse's mouth.
From what I've heard of Colby,
he's not really a believer in aliens,
and I can appreciate that,
but the very fact
he's willing to speak with me at all,
that means this guy really wants answers.
Colby?
- Good morning. Doug?
- [Laux] Doug Laux.
- Yeah. How are you?
- Nice to meet you.
- Appreciate you meeting me this early.
- Absolutely. Happy to have you here.
My name is Colby Marshall.
I grew up right here, in Harney County.
My family's been in this community
for about six generations.
I'm raising my kids here now.
I'm gonna lay these out
on the tailgate here.
[Marshall] We had five range bulls
that were murdered and mutilated
within a 24-hour period of time.
Right up in here
is where my cowboy found the first bull,
which was really a weird situation.
But then after he found the second bull,
we knew something was goin' on.
- Same day, two bulls? Yeah.
- [Marshall] Exactly right.
We contacted the state police.
We contacted the Forest Service.
We got in touch with the county sheriff,
and we had them all come out
and try to find forensic evidence
that that would lead us to somebody
that had perpetrated the crime.
Including offering a $25,000 reward.
It didn't yield anything.
It'll be interesting to go
and take a look at what we'll see.
Well, I'd like to see it in person,
so if you're ready,
I mean, let's hop in and do it.
[intense music playing]
[Knapp] Just made it over to a town
called Fossil, Oregon, to meet Dave Hunt.
According to the sheriff, Dave Hunt
is solid as the Rock of Gibraltar.
Uh, absolute solid citizen.
He spent his entire life here.
He's a fifth-generation rancher,
lived on this land for 70 years.
It took us a while to talk him
into speaking with us about it.
His neighbors are the same way.
It's at least a dozen of his neighbors
that we know of
that have had similar cases.
They're not trying to become celebrities
or start a podcast.
They want this to go away.
I've chased these kind of stories
all over North America,
and a lot of ranchers
don't wanna talk about it.
Yeah, it's kind of tough to talk about
when you're born and raised around cattle,
and you know everything they do
and everything that can happen to 'em,
and then you see something
that isn't normal.
You just, like,
want to sit on it for a little bit.
So, tell me about your animals,
which ones you lost.
The bull happened in December.
The cow happened
the following June or July.
I'm not the only person it happens to.
There's, you know,
in John Day and Seneca and Antelope.
- And, you know, they're all around.
- How many total do you think in this area?
A lot. Fifteen, 20.
Over what period of time?
Oh, in the last four years.
Three, four years.
I understand that you've had
some other weird stuff
that happened preceding this.
Um, I don't know what caused 'em,
but we have a series of crop circles
that come in the field.
Um, they're in a pattern,
and they kind of come and go.
In the spring,
you can see 'em really good.
And they happened about
around about the same time.
Um, any strange things in the sky,
uh, that you associate with this?
Yeah, I have. I've seen
I'm gonna call it
a unidentified flying object.
- Describe it.
- [Hunt] It was round.
It had green rectangle windows
around the middle
and round red ones around the top.
How long was it sittin' there?
[chuckling] Long enough
for me to go get a rifle to shoot at it.
- Did you shoot?
- No, because this is a funny story.
It's still sitting there, right?
And my wife called me,
and I came out, I looked at it,
and I go, "I'm gonna shoot it."
So, I've got a rifle,
and the funniest thing,
because it's sitting right there,
and as soon as I put the scope on it,
disappeared.
Just vanished?
Did not go up, down, left, or right. Gone.
I'm not surprised to hear
that there's UFO activity
in association with these mutilation cases
because that's been reported
all over the world.
But some of the other aspects
of this mystery
that we've just had unveiled to us today,
crop circles, right out here.
These gigantic circles that appear
out of nowhere in their pasture.
And then for the next couple of years,
the grass, the hay that grows there
is bigger and stronger
than anything around it.
Where did they come from?
Why aren't there other government agencies
here investigating this?
Is it because
they don't believe the witnesses?
Or they're not surprised?
Show me where this happened?
Where the cow and the bull were found?
All right.
[energetic, rhythmic music playing]
- [Laux] I know the price of bulls.
- [Marshall] Right.
I mean, you're talking
at least $5,000 or $10,000.
Each one of those hits
is about a $20,000 cost.
If somebody totals your car,
and it's worth $20,000,
you're gonna be really furious about that.
What if somebody totals five of your cars?
The most probable cause
is Colby's got enemies,
and somebody just cost him 100 grand.
- That's right.
- Of course, the question becomes why.
Have you ever considered, like,
something more, like, paranormal? Or
I'm sure people have asked you,
because people made claims it was aliens.
- Right.
- Do you have any thoughts on that at all?
I don't [sighs]
I don't think it's aliens per se.
I think it is a group of individuals.
[Laux] I don't have
any preconceived notions.
I know a lot of people do.
And the more you can provide
to prove your situation,
obviously, the more I'm gonna get
on your level,
the more I'm going to believe you.
Especially if we're talking about things
that might seem outlandish at first.
[Marshall] When the cowboy found
the first bull, it was right here.
[chuckles] God! I was not expecting
the bones to still be here.
[Marshall] Yeah.
[Laux] Walking up,
and I'm seeing the bones in front of me,
this is surreal.
[Marshall] The animal was laying there
with no genitalia.
All the reproductive organs
have been removed
with no other harm to the animal at all.
Not to be crass,
but why do you want bulls' balls?
You can get 'em from a butcher for free.
There was no blood
around the animal or on the carcass.
And even to the point
that the carcass over the next months
sort of melted into the ground.
It wasn't torn apart
by the scavengers or anything.
[unsettling music playing]
[Laux] Just doing math in my head,
it's gonna have 50 liters of blood.
- Correct.
- That's a hell of a lot of blood.
That's right, and it's gonna make a mess.
- I mean, a lot.
- Yes.
I mean, how do you do that
without, like, spilling a single drop?
Then that means that this bull
had to be exsanguinated beforehand.
Before they removed its genitalia,
they would have had
to have pulled all its blood.
Yeah.
[unsettling music fades]
[Marshall] Right here, you can see
just right underneath those trees,
that is the bones
of the second mutilated bull.
[Laux] I see it from here, yeah.
[gentle music playing]
[Marshall] Just like the first bull that
we saw, Doug, we can walk up here.
- We can see there's still bones here.
- [Laux] Mm-hmm.
No scavengers, no predators
got to this animal and tore it into pieces
and drug it all over the place.
These bones are just clean.
They're not all gnawed and chewed up,
and they're not all broken into pieces
um, by coyotes and other critters.
- [Laux] By teeth.
- [Marshall] Right.
This just has to be, then,
that the scavenger animals
smelled something,
and it's just innate in them
that they knew not to touch this meat.
- What, there's five, right?
- That's correct.
So, I mean, they were untouched as well
by, like, scavengers.
- That's right.
- So
There's no such thing as coincidence.
I mean, this didn't happen in a vacuum.
- There's just no way.
- Yeah. Absolutely.
What kind of gives me goosebumps the most
is how complex it was
and that no mistakes were made.
I understand why people believe
that aliens are responsible.
The one thing that I am certain of
is that there was a purpose to this.
Someone or something
forced this to happen,
and this is
an extremely advanced operation.
- [gentle music fades]
- [breeze blows]
[energetic music playing]
This is the pasture right here
that we keep these bulls in.
We'll just stop right up here.
So, this is the location.
- [Knapp] It's right here?
- Right here.
So, this bull is laying right here,
with his face pointing that way,
with his front feet out.
It laid in a position
I've never seen a bull or a cow lay in.
Then there's no tracks,
and there's no blood.
His nose is gone, his lips are gone,
his tongue is gone, his ears are gone,
his tail is skinned.
All precision I call 'em laser cuts.
They're heat cuts
because the hair's curled
like it's singed right by the cuts.
We're talking about a time of year
this ground is covered with snow?
- Yeah, four inches.
- Four inches of snow.
- Yeah.
- And there are no tracks.
There's no tracks.
And no blood.
Not one drop.
That animal had no blood in him.
My vet, she said probably the only way
you could get all of the blood
out of the animal
was to bleed it while it's alive
so that the animal
pumps all the blood out.
- That's a horrible way to go, huh?
- [chuckles] Yeah.
I know the rest of my bulls
that were in this pasture
were petrified to death.
They were scared to death,
and my bulls are never scared.
I can pet 'em.
If you're a cowman,
that'll tell you more than anything else.
Something super weird happened
to scare those bulls that bad.
[Knapp] A long time ago,
one of the first investigative reporters
to look into this
called it an alien harvest.
And I don't know that that's what it is,
but it sure seems like somebody
is harvesting bits and pieces from cattle.
And it's not the same pieces
that we harvest.
This is how I found this cow,
dead with her head up.
They were about six months apart.
December and then July.
Gravity will tell you
that that head's gonna go to the ground
the instant she dies.
Well, that cow died,
and her head's still in the air.
- [Knapp] This is really weird and creepy.
- [Hunt] Yeah.
Why is it not a person?
Why do you know it's not people?
I've been a cowman for 70 years.
I know what everything looks like
that can kill a cow.
You know, and that's not one of
That wasn't there.
You can't pick a 2,500-pound bull up
and position him in that position
and then do all the cuts
and take everything off
and drain him of blood
without leavin' a track.
It just can't happen.
In my opinion,
something picked the bull up,
did all of whatever they were doing to it,
and then set it back down.
If whatever came in and killed this bull
was leaving no tracks,
what's to keep 'em from killing
ten more tomorrow, you know? Uh
- I mean, it'll wipe you out, you know?
- Or people.
- Yeah.
- It's like a harvest.
- [Hunt] It is.
- Like they're harvesting.
They are harvesting.
That's what they're doing.
They don't just come out here
and kill him and leave him.
They harvest the part
that they want off of every animal.
[Knapp] Dave actually has a son
who says he's had his own experience
with things he can't explain here.
- Hi, George.
- [son] My wife, Ginger.
Ginger, nice to meet you.
So, this is where you saw it, huh?
Yeah. We were just driving by,
and we seen a big buck, you know.
Everybody always asks us.
They want to see these big bucks.
So I stopped and took a video of it,
right on the edge of that cut right there.
And I didn't notice anything on it
at the time.
And later on, I showed it to somebody.
And they asked me,
"Hey, what the heck is that?"
There's something right behind it
- Can I just take a look at it?
- [Stacy] Yeah.
- [Knapp] This is the buck.
- [Stacy] See that behind it?
- [Knapp] Something walking behind it.
- Yeah. But
This is a wild animal.
[Knapp] And they're really spooky.
[tense music playing]
[Stacy] You can't get that close to it
and it not know it.
- It should have reacted.
- Oh, absolutely. It'd bolted out of there.
So, if it was a person,
that deer would have
It would have known. It would have looked.
You know, it's focused on me.
And if it's that close to it,
right there behind it,
that thing would have bugged out.
When you blow that up
and slow it down, it gets really weird.
[Knapp] Mind if I have a copy
of that video and share it online?
- [Ginger] Leave it.
- Absolutely. [laughs]
When you add it to all the other stuff
that's been going on,
it really gets weird.
It seems to play in
with the other odd activity.
After this bull and the cow happened,
my daughter was out on the porch
in the summertime at night,
and, uh, one of the triangular,
three-lighted
whatever they are flies over.
She yells at me. I run in, grab my binocs.
I'm looking at this thing.
And it's low and slow,
and it is quiet as a church mouse.
- Floats over?
- [Stacy] Yep.
- Could you see any insignia or anything?
- I couldn't.
It just looked like a bunch of mechanical,
you know, tubing, wire, all that stuff
under this thing,
and three big lights in the corner of it.
Like I said,
we try not to think about it a lot
because you can't explain it,
so let's not lose any sleep
worrying about it.
We don't get stressed about it. We just
- [Knapp] Not much you can do.
- It is what it is.
[Knapp] Law enforcement doesn't know.
You hope it goes somewhere else.
[Stacy] Absolutely.
[Knapp] What looks
like a humanoid walking on a hill,
two major UFO sightings
among the family members,
two classic mutilation cases,
and crop circles all in one place
suggest there is a connection
between all these strange phenomena.
Now we need to take
everything we've gathered
and bring it to a colleague of mine
who is uniquely qualified to help us
connect the dots of why this is happening.
[energetic music playing]
[Knapp] I don't think there's a person
who's done more hands-on investigations
of animal mutilation cases
than Colm Kelleher.
Colm has a PhD. He's a biochemist.
He's been at the scene of dozens
of mutilation cases all over the world.
He's sampled those.
He's sent them to labs.
He's had it analyzed.
He's worked with veterinarians.
He's developed some theories
about what's going on.
So, we spent a couple of days
talking to ranchers and lawmen up there.
They've had a dozen cases in this area.
At least a dozen, maybe more.
But the ranchers, you know,
they don't always report 'em.
Our two ranchers have different opinions
as far as who's responsible for this.
Uh, the gentleman I spoke to in Burns
thinks this was done by humans.
[Knapp] This guy thinks it's aliens.
They think the answer is there,
that somebody from up there
is visiting and harvesting.
For what purpose? I don't know.
It did remind me
of a field sampling operation.
You know, I don't want to go
much further than that
because, I mean, it's really a hypothesis
based on repeated patterns
of the same tissues
being removed from these animals.
What we found really interesting
is that no predators went after these.
And, as he said, they eventually
just melted into the earth.
- [Knapp] Would you say that's typical?
- [Kelleher] Yes, it is typical.
The early days of NIDS, the National
Institute for Discovery Science,
we set up a surveillance camera
on the animal
to see if any predators showed up.
And for two nights in a row,
nothing came near the cow,
and this was this was a place
that was full of coyotes.
That surveillance camera did not lie.
There was not a single animal.
[Knapp] Why is it so difficult,
getting to the bottom of this?
I think the cattle mutilation phenomenon
is, by its nature, deceptive.
Whatever is doing this
are incredibly skilled.
They're surgically adept.
They have, uh, equipment
that is very sophisticated.
I mean, this was a
a ritualistic display
of raw power and finesse.
I mean, it basically is a form
of psychological intimidation.
The evidence suggests
that they're always one step ahead.
[music fades]
Here's one of the thoughts
that rattles around in my head at night.
If they can do this to livestock,
what does it mean for us?
So, the cattle mutilation phenomena,
it's not an encouraging sort of a sign.
How often do they express hostility
toward humans?
There are medical, uh,
injury cases that we've studied.
But you could never really define
the agenda of the UFO phenomenon.
You know, were these people
just in the wrong place at the wrong time?
And they got injured as a result
of being too close
to a "propulsion system,"
to a directed energy weapon,
or whatever caused the injury.
The Colares, Brazil, case
was very different.
[tense music playing]
[Kelleher] Colares Island
in northeastern Brazil
was besieged for somewhere
between six months and 12 months
by dozens and dozens
of different-sized objects,
and they were hunting people.
You guys studied that.
Yeah. There was an obvious intent
to injure people,
and, you know,
in some cases, people got killed.
I first heard about the Colares case
when I started down this path,
uh, back in the late '80s and early '90s.
Even back then, it seemed weird.
It doesn't seem to really fit the pattern
of what I had known
about UFOs by that point.
I was reading everything I could find,
but this one just didn't fit
what you see everywhere else.
[pensive music playing]
[Knapp] In the beginning,
I wasn't necessarily intimidated
by the idea of alien visitors.
I thought if we could confirm it,
that'd be the biggest thing
in human history.
As I've gone on, I've learned about
some darker aspects of the phenomena.
And Colm is right.
The Colares, Brazil, incident might be
the most extraordinary of them all.
In late 1977, hundreds of people
along the Tocantins River
were attacked and injured
by these things that came out of the sky.
Some reportedly died
from their encounters.
Images of the injured people
went out all over the world.
It has become one of the best documented
but least understood UFO incidents
in all of history.
There's been a lot of secrecy
in that country, as there has been here.
- Thiago, how you doing?
- I'm fine, George. Thank you. How are you?
I appreciate you carving out
some time for me. Um
So, all the inquiries
I have made about Colares,
the story is, um,
the witnesses won't talk,
the people who were injured won't talk.
Are all those still true?
In the past, they were afraid
if they talk, something could happen.
But the stigma is changing a lot,
and much, much of this is because of
what happened in the United States.
The the the public and society,
you know, pressing the government
to disclose all the things about the UFOs.
If you go there, you can find people
that have been attacked by these lights.
This phenomena, it still happens today.
[dramatic stinger]
You're saying it's ongoing now?
They're seeing the same thing happen,
and they're scared
if what happened there in the past
can happen now, in the present.
[tense music playing]
[Knapp] If this is going on even now,
I've got to get there and investigate it.
There's a recent contact of mine
who has relevant expertise,
and I've asked her to come over
and talk about it
and maybe join our investigation.
My name is Vernice "Flygirl" Armour.
All my friends call me Vee.
And after two tours in Iraq,
I became America's
first Black female combat pilot.
[Knapp] I'm not the smartest guy
in the room.
Among the many gaps in my expertise,
aviation and aeronautics.
I don't know any of that stuff.
She's a former Marine helicopter pilot.
[knocking on door]
[Knapp] She knows how they operate
and what other kinds of craft there are,
what landing lights look like.
- Hey, Vee. Welcome.
- [Armour] George.
[Knapp] She worked as a police officer,
so she knows how to do investigations.
She is a bit of a badass.
You know, we've been chasing
this cattle mutilation stuff.
- It's pretty creepy.
- It is.
For the most part,
they don't attack humans.
We're gonna look at a case where they did.
This is Operation Prato.
This is, uh, an investigation in Brazil.
Uh, dozens of people were burned
with something like lasers.
[Armour] "Abruptly making 90-degree turns,
changing speed above 35,000 feet."
We don't have any technology.
Yeah, we don't have it now.
We sure didn't have it back then,
so it's something else.
As a military pilot,
we're trained for all types of situations.
Traditional, nontraditional.
How do we train for something
that far exceeds
our tactical capabilities?
Like, it's literally defying the laws
of physics and aerodynamics as we know it.
You know, if we're ever gonna figure out
the intentions,
what do they want,
what's their interest in us,
you have to look at the dark side as well.
This is dark.
So, we can go down to Brazil,
see what we can find out.
[Armour] Let's go.
Did they seem to intend harm?
What were the capabilities
of these things that were in the sky?
What did the Brazilian Air Force learn?
Did they get solid physical evidence?
If these are aliens,
and they're back, why there?
Why these people?
I'm gonna find out.
[suspenseful music playing]
[music fades out]
