Good morning. My name
is Dr. Sophia Nathan,
and I'm the chief scientist
at the Department of Homeland Security.
What we know is that today's tragedy
was a natural disaster.
The sinkhole at La Brea
is the largest of its kind.
And as of this moment,
we don't know how deep it goes.
Dr. Nathan, what about the victims?
- Are there any numbers?
- No, not yet.
Are there any plans to
send a rescue mission
to locate any survivors?
Not at this time.
Unfortunately, no one could
have survived that fall.
But what I can tell you is that we have
a long-range military-grade
drone en route,
and we hope to have confirmation soon.
To all the families
affected by this tragedy,
please know that we're thinking
of each and every one of you.

What are you talking about?

trees, wilderness,

it, but they're there
in the woods.
- Dad.
- Okay, believe me.
I know how it sounds,
but it's not just them.

I saw them in that place this morning.
And then
Then they flew out of the sinkhole.
What are you saying?
None of it makes sense to me either,
but my gut is telling me
that something is going on.
I can't let it go.
I need to talk to someone in charge.
And tell them what?
What if there are people
alive down there, Iz?
They can't give up.
Adam, I was wondering when
you were gonna show up.
Got the first flight out of D.C.
How's it going with the press?
Telling them what they need to hear.
But I hate lying to the families.
What are you supposed to say?
The truth?

agent Adam Markman.
He worked the Mojave incident with me.
We'll be running point
together moving forward.
So where are we at?
Bring up the live feed of the drone.
Right away.
That's the same light
we saw in the Mojave.
We estimate it's at 20,000 feet.
We're approaching that depth now.

Hey, how you doing?
I'm okay.

when you broke your arm
in the fifth grade?
Remember then it took you, like,
four hours to see a doctor?
- This is worse.
- Yeah, I know.
I know, but you got through it, right?

I told you to do that?

Okay, so the wound's wrapped
but he needs those antibiotics.
Bleeding won't stop without sutures.
And the way he's losing blood,
I don't know how long he has left.
Hey, put it down. We share that.
Scott, watch that food. No
one steals anything, got it?
I'm your man.
There was an ambulance.
I saw it, I saw it.
It fell in the sinkhole
so it has to be around here somewhere.
- I'll just I'll find it.
- It's gonna be dark real soon.
Everything that fell in got scattered.
- Where do you even look?
- I don't know.
I don't know.
All right, you're gonna need more eyes
out there so I'll go with you.
No, you have to stay here with Josh.
There's nothing else I could do for him,
not without those supplies.
I'm not leaving him here alone.
Even if you could find it yourself,
you wouldn't know what to look for.

I realize how this is gonna sound,
but I think people might
be alive down there.
Sir, we all want to believe that.
But it's not possible.
Excuse us, we have to get going.
You need to move on.
I think I saw your drone down there.
Sir.
It's okay. Give give us a second.
Look, I don't know how to explain it,
but is the tail number 9300NN?
Okay, that drone,
it's in the same place
where everyone else is.
I know this is hard to believe.
I'm not sure I even believe it myself,
but if there's even a
chance that people survived,
you need to send a rescue mission.
- What's your name, sir?
- Gavin Harris.
And how did you come
by this information?
It doesn't matter. I'm just
I'm just asking that you don't give up.
Like I said before,
no one could have survived that fall.
I'm very sorry for your loss.
How the hell could he have known that?
I don't know, but we
need to look into him.
Are these the boxes
Mom brought from home?
Yeah, why? What are you looking for?
I need to prove to Dr.
Nathan that they're alive.
I think there might be a way to do it.
- How?
- I saw Eve down there.
She was next to a boulder.
The boulder had a
handprint carved into it,
and I've seen that boulder before.
We have a picture of it.
Gavin, look at me.
These things you're
seeing, they're not real.
Hey, Jess, I know that's
what we've always thought,
but how do you explain why
I'm seeing Eve and Josh?
I I can't, but you have to stop this.
Aunt Jessica's right, Dad.
Do you have any idea how
many times Josh would say
we couldn't count on you,
but I always defended you
because I knew the only
reason that you drank
was because of how
much pain you were in.
I knew that when it counted,
you'd be there for us.
I know this-this seems crazy,
but I am trying to help.
I'm just trying to figure
out what's going on.
They're gone, Dad.
[melancholy music]
Iz.
- Iz.
- Just let her go.
Yeah.
Give me a minute, okay?
[sighs]

[suspenseful music]
[high-pitched ringing]

Does any of this look familiar?
No, it all looks familiar.
But that field wasn't more
than a couple miles from the clearing.
Well, it can't be too far.
I'm going to go look up ahead.
- You okay?
- Yeah.
Hey, thank you, by the way.
The wolf.
I mean, if you hadn't been there,
I I don't even know.
Don't mention it.
[gasps] I'm sorry.
It's okay, you don't have to be sorry.
No, I do.
You've caught me at
some interesting moments.
Yeah.
If you want to talk about that
It's the last thing I want to do.
You've got enough on your plate.
I don't even know your name.
Eve.
- I'm Ty.
- Hey.
- You're a good mother, Eve.
- Mm.
If you say so.
What, you think this is your fault?
I think that I have let my
children down far too often.
That's what I think.
- How's that?
- Uh
Come on, you can tell me.
You sound like a shrink.
- I am.
- Oh.
My ex-wife would say I'm
always analyzing people.
It's not my most endearing quality.
So tell me what happened.
About a year and a half ago,
I was running late at work
and then I had a neighbor
pick up my daughter from school
and then there was an accident and, uh,
Izzy, my daughter,
she lost her leg.
And you blame yourself.
I understand.
You can't control everything, Eve.
It's just life.
Whoa.
[soft dramatic music]

It's from the tar pits.
Come on. I saw this before.
This way.
Riley.
I'm cold.
Oh, God.
[quietly] Okay, you're going to be fine.
You're going to be fine too, I think.
Um, okay.
Um, let's try this.
That's clearly not working.
Okay, let's go for plan B.
Okay, here we go.
Here we go.
[shivering]
[quietly] I got you, okay?
Hold on.
I got you, I got you.
[eerie music]

Dad, what are you doing?
You shouldn't be here.
I shouldn't be here?
You weren't answering your phone
so I tracked you down
on "Find My Friends."
Please, tell me what you're doing.
When I saw your mom,
she was next to this boulder.
There was a Wilshire Boulevard sign
on the ground behind her,
and I thought if I dug it up,
it'd be proof what I saw was real.
But there's nothing.
Gavin, it's time to come home.
Hold on.
What is it?
This morning, was your mom
wearing her ring around her neck?
- Why?
- Izzy, please.
Was she wearing her ring or not?
Yes, she was.
Why?
Oh, my God.
- How is that possible?
- I don't know.
I can't explain why
but everything that's happened to me,
it's been leading up to this.
Your mom and Josh are alive,
and I'm going to find them.
Riley, look what I got.
It's for him.
Uh, beautiful night.
But, man, weather changes
fast around here, right?
[sighs]
Anything else?
Okay, listen, look, I froze.
I completely freaked out.
I mean, those wolves,
right? That was insane.
Anyone would have reacted the same way.
I'm only human.
But also, you could have died
and it would've been my fault.
Yeah, it would've.
Yeah.
Anyway, um, I've got
some juice left on this
and some sweet tunes.
Assuming he doesn't mind
a stranger's ear wax,
some music might help him sleep.
That's the last thing he needs.
We need to keep him awake or he'll die.
Right, yeah, sure. Good point.
Maybe you could rest. I
could watch him if you want.
Do you have any non-stoner music?
I happen to have eclectic tastes.
Hey, Scott.
Thanks.
[fire crackling]
Nobody knows where we are.
How are they gonna find us?
It's okay.

From there.
Look! Here it is!
[panting]
It's got everything. Give me a sec.
Oh, thank God. [exhaling]
Your son's gonna be okay.
Eve?
What's going on?
Those are the Hollywood Hills,
and so are those.
They're the same.
I think we're still in Los Angeles.
How is that possible?

[low snarling]
Don't move.
[growls]
Run.
- [snarling]
- Keep moving!
[soft dramatic music]
We all have people we
want to get back to.
But we're not gonna give up.
We're gonna get out of here.
[animals snarling]
Right now we need to stick together.
Nobody goes anywhere alone
until we figure out what's going on.
[music intensifies]
Who put him there?
I have no idea.

My wife and son are down there.
- How do you know that?
- Because I can see that place.
We're going down there are,
and you're going to help us do it.

- [animal growls]
- If that thing's extinct,
then what the hell is it doing here?

Right now, the people still have hope.
You take that away,
it's a dangerous thing.

This might be our only chance
to get Mom and Josh back.
And what if none of you come back?

I'm gonna bring my family home.

I promise.
