I've been a homicide detective

There's two different worlds.
There's the world that

the world of the bad guys.
At one point I was involved
in a lot of shootings.
I was just doing my job.
Then there came a case that
changed me significantly.

somebody like this to go free.

was yesterday.

Why? Why kill
innocent women?
Why kill at all?
Because I could.
I wanted to.
(Mike): I thought I knew evil.
I've been around evil men
most of my life.
Dewayne Lee Harris,
he had that
persuasion over people.
But he was

He was a scary, scary man.

this case never happened.

It changed me significantly.
If I could say
anything to Denise today.
It would have been
that you weren't the only one
that was fooled by Dewayne.
He tried to fool
a lot of people.
Unfortunately, you were one.
People like Dewayne Harris,
they believe that
they're smarter than you.
Dewayne believed that
he was holding all the cards.
If I could speak to Dewayne now,
I'd like to ask him, you know,
"Between us, if you got out,
what would you do?
Would you do the same stuff?"
And I know just what'd happen.
He'd be sitting back there.
He'd start laughing.
(Mike imitates Dewayne):
"Well, you know I would.
Come on Mikey-Mike,
you know I would."
