September 12, 1914.
France has been at war for a month.
The war was expected to be short,
but has so far resulted
in the death of 300,000 soldiers.
At Saint-Paulin, in the Vosges,
the French army is fighting to contain
the German invasion
and prevent the enemy from reaching Paris.
As men left for the front,
women took their place
in the fields, factories, hospitals
This is the story of four of them.
