Alaska Haunting (2015) s01e02 Episode Script
Curse of the Trappers Cabin
Narrator: THE ICY WILDERNESS OF THE LAST FRONTIER IS RICH IN NATIVE HISTORY.
BUT WHEN A COUPLE BUYS A RENOVATED CABIN IN THE WOODS, THEY DISCOVER THE PAS IS MUCH CLOSER THAN THEY THINK.
[ SCREAMS .]
I MEAN, IT WAS TEXTBOOK, LIKE, OUT OF A HORROR MOVIE.
Narrator: A SECRET BURIED MANY WINTERS AGO Bye: YOUR ENTIRE LIFE, YOU'RE TOLD THESE TYPES OF THINGS DO NOT EXIST.
THERE IT IS, RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR FACE.
Narrator: NOW READY TO EMERGE FROM THE FROZEN EARTH.
COME ON.
DUSTY, COME ON! Marsh: IT LITERALLY SOUND LIKE PEOPLE JUST POUNDING ON THE WALL, "BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM.
" THINGS ARE HAPPENING, AND I'M STARTING TO FEEL THEM, SO IT'S REAL.
Narrator: IN A LAND AS REMOTE AS ALASKA, WHEN YOU'RE CAUGHT TRESPASSING ON FORBIDDEN GROUNDS, WILL ANYONE HEAR YOU SCREAM? NO, I'M HERE ALONE.
[ GROWLS .]
[ SCREAMS .]
-- Captions by VITAC -- CAPTIONS PAID FOR BY DISCOVERY COMMUNICATIONS Narrator: ALASKA IS A VAST WILDERNESS FULL OF COLOSSAL MOUNTAINS, SPRAWLING FORESTS, AND SLEEPY VALLEYS.
HIDDEN AMONG THESE NATURAL WONDERS IS THE PEACEFUL TOWN OF POINT MACKENZIE.
POINT MACKENZIE IS THE RURAL PART OF WASILLA.
EVEN THOUGH YOU'RE WITHIN MAYBE 20 MINUTES OF THE TOWN, YOU STILL FEEL LIKE YOU'RE OU THERE IN YOUR OWN PRIVATE AREA.
IT JUST FEELS REALLY REMOTE, LIKE, QUIET AND PEACEFUL.
Narrator: POINT MACKENZIE IS WHERE JESS BYE AND HER BOYFRIEND OF ONE YEAR, DUSTY MARSH, DECIDE TO TAKE A LEAP AND BUY A HOME TOGETHER.
I SPENT A LOT OF TIME IN ALASKA LIVING IN TRAILERS AND TENTS, TRAVELING AROUND, AND IT WAS TIME FOR A HOME.
ISN'T IT BEAUTIFUL? WE BOTH WANTED SOMETHING THAT WASN'T COOKIE-CUTTER.
WE WANTED SOMETHING THAT WAS AT THE HEART OF WHAT ALASKA WAS.
WE WERE LOOKING A DIFFERENT PIECES OF PROPERTY, AND WE CAME ACROSS THIS LOG HOME.
IT WAS JUST THIS SMALL, LITTLE TRAPPER CABIN, AND IT WAS SET ON 13 ACRES, AND IT JUST LOOKED BEAUTIFUL.
AND WE DECIDED WE BETTER GO CHECK THIS PLACE OUT.
THERE IT IS.
THIS IS IT.
DO YOU FEEL THAT? FEEL WHAT? IT FEELS STRANGE.
YOU'LL BE FINE.
WAIT TILL YOU SEE THE HOUSE.
WHEN WE FIRST WERE JUST DRIVING DOWN THE DRIVEWAY, IT HAD AN ENERGY TO THE PLACE.
IT WAS A VERY STRANGE ENERGY, BUT IT WAS REALLY ODD.
Marsh: I KIND OF JUST SHRUGGED IT OFF.
THAT'S THE WAY JESS' PERSONALITY IS.
SHE PICKS UP ON A LOT OF THINGS THAT, I WOULD SAY, MOST PEOPLE PROBABLY DON'T.
LOOK AT THAT.
IT'S GORGEOUS.
LET'S GO TAKE A LOOK.
OKAY.
WHAT DO YOU THINK, SWEETHEART? IT'S PERFECT, ISN'T IT? [ CHUCKLES .]
LOOK AT THAT.
LOOK AT THAT DECK.
WOW.
LET'S GO EXPLORE.
ORIGINALLY, WE WERE TOLD THAT IT WAS JUST THIS SMALL, LITTLE TRAPPER CABIN, BACK BETWEEN MAYBE THE '40s, '60s AREA OF TIME.
AND THEN AS TIME WENT ON, WE BELIEVE IT SLOWLY STARTED TO GET ADDED ON TO.
THEY ADDED ON THE MAIN LIVING AREA, THE BEDROOM UPSTAIRS.
WHAT WAS NICE WAS THEY STILL KEPT THE HEAR OF THAT LITTLE CABIN, AND THEY TURNED THAT CABIN INTO THE ENTIRE KITCHEN.
WE'RE JUST LOOKING AROUND LIKE, "IS THIS FOR REAL? YOU KNOW, WHY HASN'T SOMEBODY BOUGHT THIS PLACE YET?" I LOVE IT.
THIS IS US.
THIS IS PERFECT.
Narrator: JESS AND DUSTY IMMEDIATELY PUT IN AN OFFER, AND A DAY LATER, THE CABIN IS THEIRS.
Bye: EVERYTHING FELL INTO PLACE.
IT FELT LIKE THE HOUSE CHOSE US.
IT REALLY DID.
Narrator: WHEN THE COUPLE FINALLY MOVES IN, THEY WASTE NO TIME IN MAKING THE CABIN FEEL LIKE HOME.
BUT DUSTY HAS NO TIME TO SETTLE IN.
JUST AS THE LAST BOX IS UNPACKED, HE'S OFF ON THE ROAD.
WELL, LOOKS LIKE I'VE GOT EVERYTHING.
GIVE ME A KISS, HONEY.
DUSTY WORKS AS AN OIL FOREMAN HUNDREDS OF MILES AWAY ON ALASKA'S NORTH SLOPE.
Marsh: I HAVE A TWO WEEK ON, TWO WEEK OFF SCHEDULE.
SO, YOU'RE GONE FROM HOME, YOU KNOW, HALF THE MONTH.
JESS CAN ALWAYS TAKE CARE OF HERSELF.
BUT STILL, I ALWAYS FEEL BAD LEAVING HER BEHIND.
Bye: I WOULD GET LONELY WHEN HE WOULD LEAVE.
IT WOULD SUDDENLY FEEL JUST, "OKAY.
IT'S JUST ME IN THIS BIG HOUSE.
" [ ANIMAL HOWLS .]
[ BIRDS CHIRPING .]
I NOTICED ONE OF OUR NEIGHBORS COMING DOWN THE DRIVEWAY.
AND SHE PARKED BY THE HOUSE, AND SHE GOT OUT, BUT SHE WOULDN' COME UP TO THE DOOR.
HI, THERE.
HI.
SO YOU, UH, BOUGHT THIS PLACE, HUH? YEAH, WE WERE LUCKY TO GET IT.
YEAH.
I'M JESS.
UH, JUNE.
I LIVE UP THE ROAD A WAYS.
SO, UH, HOW ARE YOU LIKING IT? OH, IT'S GREAT.
I LOVE IT.
JUST GETTING SETTLED IN.
YOU'RE -- YOU'RE NOT HERE ALONE, ARE YOU? YEAH, MY BOYFRIEND, HE'S ON THE SLOPE RIGHT NOW.
HE'S ON A TWO-AND-TWO SCHEDULE.
OH, SO, EVERY TWO WEEKS, HE'S UP THERE? YEAH.
GREAT.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO COME INSIDE? I COULD GET SOME COFFEE GOING.
OH, NO, THANKS.
I'M -- I'M GOOD.
SHE SEEMED LIKE SHE WAS AWKWARD.
AND I THOUGHT, "WELL, MAYBE SHE'S JUST AWKWARD BECAUSE WE HAVEN'T MET YET.
" SO, UH, YOU NOTICED ANYTHING ABOUT THE HOUSE? UM, NOPE.
NO, WE LOVE IT.
OH.
CONGRATULATIONS.
THANK YOU.
YEAH.
IT'S EXCITING, YEAH.
[ CHUCKLES .]
SHE HAD A DISAPPOINTED LOOK ON HER FACE, ALMOST.
ARE YOU SURE YOU DON'T WANT A SNACK OR SOME WATER OR SOMETHING? YEAH, NO, REALLY, REALLY, IT'S -- THANKS.
THANKS.
I -- I GOT TO GET GOING.
SO, UM, YEAH, GOOD LUCK WITH THE PLACE.
OH, THANK YOU.
IT WAS NICE TO MEET YOU.
TAKE CARE.
I DIDN'T REALLY THINK ABOUT I VERY MUCH AFTERWARDS.
I JUST CHALKED IT UP TO MAYBE SHE'S JUST UNCOMFORTABLE.
Narrator: A FEW NIGHTS LATER, JESS IS SETTLING DOWN AFTER UNPACKING THE FINAL BOX FROM THE MOVE.
Bye: DUSTY WAS GONE, WHICH WAS PRETTY TYPICAL.
SO, YEAH, IT WOULD GET A LITTLE LONELY AND A LITTLE INTIMIDATING SOMETIMES, BEING THERE BY YOURSELF.
I KNEW THERE WAS NOBODY ELSE IN THE HOUSE.
[ INDISTINCT CONVERSATIONS, LAUGHTER .]
BUT I COULD CLEARLY HEAR WHAT SOUNDED LIKE MEN HAVING A CONVERSATION.
[ INDISTINCT CONVERSATIONS .]
AND IT SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS COMING UP FROM THE KITCHEN AREA.
[ INDISTINCT CONVERSATIONS .]
EVEN THOUGH YOUR BRAIN'S TELLING YOU, FOR SURE, THIS IS A CONVERSATION YOU'RE HEARING, YOU'RE STILL TRYING TO RATIONALIZE THAT IT'S ANOTHER SOUND.
[ INDISTINCT CONVERSATIONS .]
[ CONVERSATIONS STOP .]
I JUST STOOD THERE, SILENT, AND IT WAS GONE.
SO I JUST THOUGHT THIS HAS GO TO BE SOMETHING WITH THE HOME THAT IS A NOISE I'M JUST NOT FAMILIAR WITH.
Narrator: THE NEXT MORNING, JESS DECIDES TO CLEAR HER HEAD OF THE PREVIOUS NIGHT'S EVENTS.
I WANTED TO GO CHECK OU THE REST OF THE PLACE BECAUSE THERE WAS SO MUCH OF I THAT I HADN'T SEEN.
THERE WAS THIS ONE PARTICULAR PART OF THE BACKYARD, IT WAS FAIRLY MOSSY GROUND AND PRETTY HEAVILY WOODED.
IT RUNS ALONG THE CREEK BED, SO IT'S PRETTY DENSE.
IT'S GOT A LOT OF THICK TREES, BRUSH.
IF SOMETHING WAS TO JUMP OU AND SCARE YOU OR SOMETHING, THAT'S WHERE IT WOULD BE.
Bye: SO, I WENT OUT IN THIS ONE AREA.
AND THE CLOSER I GOT TO IT I STARTED TO FEEL DIZZY AND NAUSEOUS.
IT WASN'T NORMAL TO FEEL LIKE THAT.
WHAT ON EARTH IS OVER THERE THA WOULD MAKE ME FEEL THAT WAY? [ SIGHS .]
I COULD NOT WAI TO GET OUT OF THERE.
I THOUGHT MAYBE I JUST WASN'T FEELING WELL AND IT WAS JUST COINCIDENTAL THAT I HAPPENED TO HAVE FELT LIKE THA IN THAT PARTICULAR AREA.
Narrator: JESS MAKES IT SAFELY BACK TO THE CABIN, BUT THE EXPERIENCE LEAVES HER RATTLED.
SO SHE'S RELIEVED WHEN DUSTY RETURNS.
THAT NIGHT, JESS TAKES A DEEP BREATH AND HOPES THINGS GO BACK TO NORMAL.
I JUST GOT HOME FROM WORKING, AND I WAS PRETTY TIRED, SO I WENT TO BED EARLY.
Bye: WINTER WAS STARTING TO SET IN, AND I'M A NIGHT OWL.
I TYPICALLY CAN'T SLEEP VERY LONG.
[ INDISTINCT CONVERSATIONS .]
SO, I GOT UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT.
AND I'D WAKE UP TO WHAT SOUNDED LIKE CONVERSATION GOING ON FROM THE KITCHEN.
[ CONVERSATIONS STOP .]
AND THEN, OF COURSE, AS SOON AS YOU'RE AWAKE AND YOU'RE DOWN THERE, NOTHING.
AND I WAS LOOKING OU IN OUR BACKYARD BECAUSE IT WAS VERY PRETTY, THE FULL MOON LIGHTING UP EVERYTHING.
AND I NOTICED THIS MIS COMING OUT OF THE WOODS, WHICH WASN'T UNUSUAL.
IT HAPPENS WITH THE TEMPERATURE DIFFERENCE.
BUT THIS PARTICULAR MIS HAD A LUMINESCENCE TO IT.
THE MORE I WATCHED IT, I STARTED TO FORM INTO A FIGURE.
Narrator: OVER THE LAST FEW WEEKS, JESS BYE HAS DISMISSED A SERIES OF STRANGE EVENTS CONNECTED TO HER NEW CABIN.
BUT NOW SHE'S SEEN SOMETHING THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO IGNORE.
THIS MIS COMING OUT OF THE WOODS STARTED TO FORM INTO A FIGURE.
I WAS JUST GOBSMACKED BY IT.
I'M REALLY SEEING THIS.
IT LOOKED LIKE NATIVE ALASKAN.
HE HAD VERY CHISELED FEATURES, A PROMINENT NOSE.
HE WAS WEARING SOME SORT OF, LIKE, A SMOCK OR MAYBE EVEN, LIKE, A PONCHO.
IT LOOKED LIKE OLD PERIOD-TYPE CLOTHING.
SUDDENLY, IT WAS POINTING TO SOME AREA IN THE YARD.
AS SOON AS I REGISTERED THAT THIS LOOKS LIKE A MAN, IT STARTED TO DISSIPATE.
THE FIRST THING I WANTED TO DO WAS RUN UPSTAIRS AND WAKE DUSTY UP.
DUSTY? DUSTY! HONEY.
WAKE UP! WHAT'S GOING ON, HONEY? I SAW SOMETHING.
THERE'S SOMETHING OUTSIDE.
WHAT? THERE WAS A MAN, AND IN THE MIST, THERE WAS THIS FOG, AND THERE'S SOMETHING HERE.
SO WHEN SHE TOLD ME ABOUT IT, YOU KNOW, I'M ASKING HER FIRST, LIKE, "WELL, WHAT IT -- WAS IT, LIKE, A -- YOU KNOW, WAS YOUR MIND PLAYING GAMES ON YOU, YOU KNOW, BECAUSE SO MUCH THINGS HAVE BEEN HAPPENING?" HONEY, I'M SURE IT'S FINE.
THERE'S NOTHING Bye: HE WAS JUST LIKE, "WELL, YOU KNOW, YOU PROBABLY DID SEE SOMETHING, BUT MAYBE IT WAS JUST THE MIS AND YOUR BRAIN WAS TRYING TO, LIKE, MAKE SOMETHING OUT OF WHAT WAS -- OR WASN'T REALLY THERE.
" HE'S LIKE, "I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO TELL YOU.
" HE WAS STILL TRYING TO FIND RATIONAL EXPLANATION, BUT I KNEW THERE WAS MORE TO IT.
LET'S GO TO BED AND GET SOME SLEEP, ALL RIGHT? AND MAYBE JUS YOU'RE SEEING THINGS.
I'VE SEEN PLENTY OF MIS IN MY LIFETIME, BEING IN ALASKA.
THAT WAS NOT NORMAL.
COME ON.
COME TO BED.
AND THAT WAS THE FIRST TIME I REALLY FELT CREEPED OU BY ANYTHING IN THAT HOUSE.
[ ANIMAL HOWLS .]
Narrator: TO JESS' RELIEF, THE NEXT TWO WEEKS PASS WITHOUT INCIDENT.
THEN, ONCE AGAIN, DUSTY LEAVES FOR WORK ON THE SLOPE.
[ TELEPHONE RINGS .]
ONE OF MY BEST FRIENDS WOULD CALL QUITE OFTEN SINCE WE'D JUST MOVE INTO THIS PLACE.
WOMAN: How are you? GOOD, GOOD.
How's everything with the cabin? THINGS ARE GOOD.
YOU KNOW, DUSTY IS GONE.
WE'RE HAVING A PRETTY LENGTHY CONVERSATION, WHICH WAS NORMAL.
Oh, that must be so tough, Jess.
I don't know how you do it.
OH, IT'S NOT TOO BAD.
IT'S A LITTLE LONELY, THOUGH.
Oh, man, I can imagine.
But from your photos, the place looks great.
WHAT'S NEW WITH YOU? You know, John's had a busy season, so, uh, we're doing okay -- just running around.
Hey, you still there? YEAH, NO, I'M FINE.
I JUST THOUGH I HEARD SOMETHING.
I miss you.
Sorry, I've just been so swamped with work.
YOU KNOW, MOLLY WAS TELLING ME ABOUT THE Man: MOLLY.
AS I SAID, "MOLLY," A VOICE CAME OVER MY VOICE, MOCKING ME, AND IT WENT, "MOLLY.
" MOLLY.
IT STARTLED ME, BUT THEN I THOUGHT, "WELL, MAYBE I'M THE ONLY ONE HEARING THAT.
MAYBE IT'S WEIRD FEEDBACK OR SOMETHING STRANGE.
" AGAIN, YOU'RE TRYING TO RATIONALIZE WHAT'S GOING ON.
DID YOU HEAR THAT? Yeah, I heard it.
It sounded really creepy.
What's going on over there? SOMEBODY ELSE ON THE PHONE? ANOTHER VOICE? I definitely heard someone say "Molly.
" That was weird.
Maybe dusty jumped on the line? N-NO, I'M HERE ALONE.
I WAS ALMOST AFRAID TO HANG UP WITH HER.
I'LL TALK TO YOU LATER.
Bye.
BYE.
[ Receiver clicks .]
[ INDISTINCT TALKING .]
Narrator: TWO WEEKS LATER, DUSTY RETURNS, BUT NOT EVEN HIS PRESENCE CAN SOOTH JESS' FRAZZLED NERVES.
Marsh: HEY, HONEY.
Bye: I MADE YOU SOME TEA.
THANK YOU, SWEETIE.
Marsh: I ALWAYS HAVE THAT FEELING, LIKE, "MAN, YOU KNOW, I WISH I COULD BE THERE WITH HER ALL THE TIME.
" I ALWAYS FEEL BAD LEAVING HER BEHIND 'CAUSE I DIDN'T WANT HER TO FEEL, YOU KNOW, SCARED OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT.
[ SIGHS .]
WHAT'S THE MATTER, SWEETHEART? I WAS JUST THINKING ABOUT THE THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN HAPPENING LATELY THAT I WAS TELLING YOU ABOUT, SCARY THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN HAPPENING.
YOU KNOW, SWEETHEART, HOUSES SETTLE.
THE WOOD CREAKS.
IT'S NO THE HOUSE CREAKING.
THERE'S SOMETHING HAPPENING, AND WHY CAN'T YOU JUST BELIEVE ME? WHY DO I HAVE TO TRY TO EVEN DEFEND -- O-OKAY.
IT DID GE EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING, AND DUSTY WAS SUPPORTIVE, BUT YE EVEN THOUGH YOU TELL SOMEBODY AND THEY SAY THAT THEY BELIEVE YOU, UNLESS THEY EXPERIENCE I THEMSELVES, YOU JUST -- YOU STILL DON'T FEEL VALIDATED.
[ CHILD LAUGHING .]
[ LAUGHING STOPS .]
[ LAUGHING CONTINUES .]
Marsh: ALL OF A SUDDEN, I HEARD SOMETHING.
IT WAS A LITTLE KID'S VOICE, SO THEN I'M LIKE, "MAYBE ONE OF THE NEIGHBOR KIDS IS HERE.
" [ CHILD LAUGHING .]
I'M JUST KIND OF, LIKE, LOOKING AROUND, AND NOTHING'S THERE.
[ CHILD LAUGHING .]
IF THERE IS SOMETHING THERE, HOW DO YOU KNOW WITHOU SOME SORT OF HARD EVIDENCE? Narrator: THE USUAL CYCLE OF JESS AND DUSTY'S LIFE CONTINUES WHEN DUSTY IS CALLED BACK TO THE OIL FIELDS FOR WORK.
[ SIGHS .]
HI.
HI, HONEY.
HAVE EVERYTHING? YEAH.
JUST DOING A LAST, QUICK CHECK, MAKE SURE I GOT IT ALL.
I WISH YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO GO.
Bye: IT WAS FRUSTRATING, HIM BEING GONE.
EVEN THOUGH YOU'D KNOW FOR A FACT THIS IS HAPPENING TO ME, THERE'S STILL THAT SEED OF DOUB IN YOUR OWN MIND.
I'M GONNA MISS YOU.
GONNA MISS YOU, TOO.
[ SIGHS .]
OH, YOUR COAT.
YOU FORGOT.
THANKS, HONEY.
MM-HMM.
SEE, WHAT WOULD I DO WITHOUT YOU? BE SAFE.
ALWAYS.
I'LL SEE YOU IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS.
I WOULD NOTICE SOMETIMES WHA LOOKED LIKE SHADOWS BEHIND ME, AND THIS TIME I THOUGH I HAD SEEN SOMETHING, SO I TURNED AROUND, AND I WAS LOOKING INTO THE KITCHEN.
YOU COULD SEE THIS STRANGE, SHADOWY FIGURE AND THEN IT LOOKED AT ME, AND THERE WAS THIS REALIZATION, "YOU CAN SEE ME.
" [ SCREAMS .]
Narrator: WITH HER BOYFRIEND WORKING HUNDREDS OF MILES AWAY ON ALASKA'S OIL FIELDS, JESS BYE IS IN THEIR NEW LOG CABIN ALONE BUT SHE'S STARTING TO FEEL SOMETHING MIGHT BE STIRRING IN THE SHADOWS.
[ SCREAMING .]
THIS FIGURE LOOKED AT ME, AND THERE WAS THIS REALIZATION "YOU CAN SEE ME.
" YOU NOTICE THESE BIG EYES.
IT FELT LIKE IT LOOKED THROUGH YOU.
YOUR ENTIRE LIFE, YOU'RE TOLD THESE TYPES OF THINGS DO NOT EXIST, AND THERE IT IS RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR FACE.
I WAS SHAKING PRETTY GOOD AFTER THAT ONE.
Narrator: JESS FINDS HERSELF COUNTING DOWN THE DAYS UNTIL HER BOYFRIEND, DUSTY, RETURNS.
OF COURSE, YOU KNOW, DUSTY'S GONE.
THESE THINGS KEEP HAPPENING, AND THEY KEEP ESCALATING.
I HAD A VERY STRONG FEELING THAT SOMETHING WAS IN THE LIVING ROOM.
YOU KNOW, I THOUGHT I HAD SEEN SOMETHING IN THE REFLECTION OUT OF THE TV.
[ GASPS .]
IT LOOKED LIKE THIS FIGURE STANDING RIGHT BEHIND ME.
I TURN AROUND.
THERE'S NOTHING THERE.
IT STARTED TO FEEL LIKE I WAS GETTING TOYED WITH.
Narrator: FOR JESS, THE EXCITEMENT SHE FEL WHEN MOVING INTO THE CABIN SEEMS A WORLD AWAY.
AND NOTHING DUSTY CAN DO MAKES HER FEEL ANY BETTER.
Marsh: BUT WHEN I WOULD COME HOME, AT LEAST I WAS THERE TO COMFORT JESS, I MEAN, BECAUSE I WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT SHE FELT OKAY AND THAT SHE WAS NEVER SCARED.
[ BANGING .]
WHAT WAS THAT? DID YOU HEAR THAT? Bye: I HEAR THIS INCREDIBLE BANG, AND IT ACTUALLY SHOOK THE HOUSE.
MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS, "DID LIGHTNING JUST STRIKE THE HOUSE, OR DID SOMEONE JUS RUN INTO THE HOME WITH A SEMI?" IT WAS THAT LOUD.
I'M SURE IT'S NOTHING, SWEETHEART.
IN ALASKA, THUNDER AND LIGHTNING ISN'T REALLY COMMON, AND WHEN IT DOES HAPPEN, IT'S TYPICALLY IN THE SUMMER MONTHS, AND THIS WAS WINTERTIME.
Narrator: BUT DUSTY ASSURES JESS THAT THERE MUST BE A REASONABLE EXPLANATION.
ARE YOU SURE? Marsh: I'M THINKING, "IT'S A MOOSE," BECAUSE THERE'S TONS OF MOOSE AROUND OUR PLACE.
IT COULD HAVE BEEN AS MUCH AS THE HOUSE SETTLING AND POPPING AND CRACKING.
Narrator: DUSTY MANAGES TO PUT JESS' MIND AT EASE, AND SOON AFTER, THEY FALL BACK ASLEEP.
Bye: IT FELT LIKE SOMEBODY WAS PULLING THE SHEETS OFF OF THE BED.
[ SCREAMING .]
WHAT'S GOING ON?! SO WHEN I WAKE UP, AND I LOOK, AND I'M JUST KIND OF, LIKE, LOOKING AROUND, AND NOTHING'S THERE.
THE FEELING IS THINGS ARE HAPPENING, AND I'M STARTING TO FEEL THEM LIKE JESS IS, SO IT'S REAL.
I LOOKED AT JESS, AND SHE'S LIKE, "I'M NOT CRAZY, AND I TOLD YOU THINGS ARE HAPPENING.
" STOP! I WAS GLAD THAT IT FINALLY HAPPENED WHILE HE WAS HOME.
Narrator: THAT NIGHT, FOR THE FIRST TIME, JESS AND DUSTY ARE BOTH FORCED TO ADMI THAT SOMETHING IS GRAVELY WRONG WITH THEIR CABIN.
[ CRIES .]
[ ANIMAL HOWLS .]
ANYTIME YOU GET A FEELING LIKE THAT ON YOUR OWN PROPERTY, YOU'RE GONNA BE LIKE, "OKAY, WHAT DID I DO? I BOUGHT A PLACE THAT IS KIND OF SPOOKY NOW.
IT'S GONNA MAKE PEOPLE FEEL UNEASY.
LIKE, WHAT DO I NEED TO DO HERE? YOU KNOW, SHOULD I SELL?" Narrator: BUT THE COUPLE AREN'T PREPARED TO GIVE UP ON THEIR ALASKAN DREAM JUST YET.
[ VACUUM WHIRRING .]
[ VACUUM STOPS .]
[ SIGHS .]
[ CLICKS TONGUE .]
SO I WAS VACUUMING, AND IT CAME UNPLUGGED.
[ VACUUM WHIRRING .]
SO I JUST PLUGGED IT BACK IN, AND I THOUGHT, "OH, I MUST NOT HAVE LEF ENOUGH TENSION ON THE CORD.
" [ VACUUM STOPS .]
WHAT THE I JUST PLUGGED IT BACK IN.
AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN.
[ VACUUM WHIRRING .]
[ CHILD LAUGHING .]
I COULD HAVE SWORN I WAS HEARING GIGGLING, LIKE A LITTLE KID.
OW.
I STARTED TO FEEL THESE LITTLE PINCHES ALONG MY LEG.
AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS MAYBE MY CLOTHING PINCHING.
[ SCOFFS .]
[ CHILD LAUGHING .]
AND THEN AROUND MY INNER THIGH AREA, AND THEN IT EVEN G.
CKOT UP TO MY LOWER BA OW! [ CHILD LAUGHING .]
STOP IT! IT ALMOST FELT LIKE AS IF YOU WERE GETTING HI BY, LIKE, A BEE STING.
KNOCK IT OFF! IT WAS FAST, AND IT JUST KEPT HAPPENING.
[ CHILD LAUGHING .]
Narrator: OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS, A DARK FORCE HAS INVADED JESS AND DUSTY'S ALASKAN LOG CABIN.
KNOCK IT OFF! BUT WHAT STARTED AS LITTLE MORE THAN A TRICK OF THE LIGH HAS JUST BECOME PHYSICAL.
Bye: THAT WAS A PRETTY BIG TURNING POINT, TO KNOW THAT SOMETHING CAN GET THAT PHYSICAL WITH YOU THAT ISN'T THERE.
WHATEVER WAS IN THE HOME WAS GETTING DESPERATE, AND IT WAS GETTING FRUSTRATED TRYING TO GET MY ATTENTION AND SAY, "HEY, NOTICE I'M HERE.
" Narrator: JESS HAS REACHED HER BREAKING POIN AND DECIDES SHE NEEDS HELP.
Bye: ONCE THINGS STARTED TO ESCALATE AND BECOME MORE AGGRESSIVE, I THOUGHT, "I NEED TO BRING IN SOME PROFESSIONALS.
" Narrator: JESS REACHES OU TO KIRI ABBAS AND JOHN FRANCIS FROM THE ALASKA GHOST HUNTERS.
Abbas: ALASKA GHOST HUNTERS SEEKS TO SOLVE MYSTERIES THAT EVERYDAY PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING IN THEIR HOMES, SO MYSTERIOUS NOISES, SHAPES AND SHADOWS, THINGS THEY'RE SCARED OF.
Francis: JESS WAS CONCERNED BECAUSE SHE WAS SPENDING A LOT OF TIME ALONE, AND THIS PLACE IS VERY REMOTE.
SHE WAS JUST STARTING TO GET TERRIFIED.
Narrator: IN JANUARY OF 2014, KIRI, JOHN, AND FELLOW GHOST HUNTER SUSAN WEIR ARRIVE AT THE RENOVATED FORMER TRAPPER'S CABIN.
HEY, HOW YOU DOING? COME ON IN.
IT'S GOOD TO SEE YOU.
HI, I'M DUSTY.
Bye: JESS.
Francis: HEY, JESS.
WE SPOKE ON THE PHONE.
SO WHAT HAVE YOU GUYS BEEN EXPERIENCING IN THE HOUSE JUST RECENTLY? I JUST FEEL LIKE I'M BEING WATCHED ALL THE TIME, AND THERE'S KIND OF THIS PRESENCE.
BEEN SEEING STRANGE THINGS, HEARING PEOPLE'S VOICES.
WHERE DO YOU EXPERIENCE THE MOST ACTIVITY? I WOULD SAY THE KITCHEN.
WE LET THEM KNOW THAT THE EXISTING HOME WASN'T ALWAYS THAT WAY.
THE KITCHEN WAS THE ORIGINAL LITTLE CABIN THAT HAD BEEN BUILT ON TO.
I STILL HAD THAT FEELING OF SOMETHING BEING HIDDEN THERE.
YOU GUYS READY TO GO TAKE A LOOK AROUND THE HOUSE? YEAH.
YES.
Narrator: JESS AND DUSTY LEAVE WHILE THE GHOST HUNTERS GET TO WORK.
Francis: THE ENTRY AREA DIDN'T FEEL ANY DIFFERENT FROM ANY OTHER HOME.
ONCE WE ENTERED THE KITCHEN AREA, WHICH WAS THE ORIGINAL PAR OF THE STRUCTURE, IT HAD A MUCH DARKER FEELING TO IT.
LET'S DO AN EMF SWEEP OF THE KITCHEN/DINING AREA.
Abbas: EMF DETECTOR DETECTS ELECTROMAGNETIC FREQUENCIES, SO WE GO AROUND THE PROPERTY AND LOOK AT KIND OF WHAT THE BASE LEVEL IS, AND THEN WE LOOK FOR FLUCTUATIONS IN THAT.
UM, IT FEELS REALLY HEAVY OVER HERE.
THE METERS WERE GOING OFF THE CHARTS.
IT'S LIKE THEY HAD A HEARTBEAT, AND THEY JUST KEPT FLICKERING.
YEAH, THIS IS VERY STRANGE OVER HERE.
YOU GOT SOMETHING THERE, JOHN? YEAH, I'M GETTING RANDOM READINGS, AND I CAN'T SEEM TO FIGURE OU EXACTLY WHAT IT'S COMING FROM.
Francis: WE KNEW SOMETHING WAS THERE, AND WE KNEW IT WAS PROBABLY STAYING DOWN THERE.
IT WAS PROBABLY, LIKE, A SAFETY PLACE FOR IT.
WE'VE GOT SOMETHING REALLY SERIOUS HERE, GUYS.
THERE WAS SOMETHING THERE.
IT COULD BE EMANATING FROM BELOW THE HOUSE.
[ DETECTOR BEEPING .]
WE REALLY WANTED TO GET IN THE CRAWL SPACE OF THE ORIGINAL PAR OF THE BUILDING.
WE FELT LIKE IT NEEDED DEEPER INVESTIGATION.
Narrator: KIRI AND SUSAN SLIP INTO THE CRAWL SPACE BENEATH THE KITCHEN OF THE ORIGINAL TRAPPER'S CABIN WHERE THEY HOPE TO FIND THE SOURCE OF THE ACTIVITY.
FEELS LIKE YOU NEED TO BE WATCHING YOUR BACK, KIND OF LOOKING AROUND, MAKING SURE THERE'S NOTHING THAT'S GONNA JUMP OUT AT YOU.
DO YOU SEE ANYTHING? I DON'T.
DARKNESS CAN REALLY PLAY WITH YOUR MIND SOMETIMES.
OW.
WHEN SOMETHING ACTUALLY TOUCHES YOU, IT'S RATHER UNNERVING.
[ SIGHS .]
YEAH, SOMETHING'S DOWN HERE, AND IT DOESN'T LIKE US.
THEN I FELT COBWEBS OR THE WAY YOU FEEL WHEN THERE'S STATIC ELECTRICITY AND ALL THE LITTLE HAIRS STAND UP.
THAT'S ONE OF THE SIGNS OF A VERY STRONG SPIRIT.
THERE'S A LOT OF ENERGY, AND THAT'S WHAT GIVES YOU THE COBWEB FEELING.
I HAVE A REALLY BAD FEELING ABOUT BEING DOWN HERE.
Weir: WE ANGERED SOMETHING THERE.
IT'S VERY POSSIBLE THAT THEY DIDN'T WANT US POKING AROUND.
[ BANGING .]
IT MADE A REALLY LOUD BANG.
IT MADE US JUMP.
SOMETHING DOESN'T WANT US HERE.
Narrator: INVESTIGATORS FROM THE ALASKA GHOST HUNTING TEAM ARE SEARCHING THE CRAWL SPACE OF A REMOTE CABIN FOR THE SOURCE OF PARANORMAL ACTIVITY.
AND IT'S CLEAR THAT SOMETHING DOESN'T WANT THEM THERE.
WHAT'S THAT? AND IT MADE A REALLY LOUD BANG.
IT MADE US JUMP.
Weir: WHAT'S GOING ON? I DON'T KNOW.
NOBODY ELSE IS UP THERE.
LET'S GET OUT OF HERE.
OKAY.
Narrator: WHILE THE WOMEN ESCAPE FROM THE CRAWL SPACE, JOHN GOES TO INVESTIGATE WHAT CAUSED THE DISTURBANCE.
THIS FIREWOOD JUST FELL OVER.
Weir: THERE WAS NO REASON WHY THAT WOOD SHOULD'VE FALLEN OVER BECAUSE IT WAS SITTING FLAT.
IT WOULD NEED SOMETHING TO SHOVE IT OR MAKE IT FALL OVER.
THE SPIRITS, THEY'RE PULLING POWER FROM SOMEWHERE SO THEY CAN MANIFEST THEMSELVES AND LET THEIR PRESENCE BE KNOWN TO JESS AND DUSTY.
THAT PLACE WAS DEFINITELY HAUNTED.
Narrator: AFTER THE INCIDEN IN THE CRAWL SPACE, THE ALASKA GHOST HUNTERS ARE CONVINCED THE KEY TO SOLVING THE MYSTERY IS CONNECTED TO THE ORIGINAL TRAPPER'S CABIN.
Abbas: I PERSONALLY FELT THE FEELING LIKE THERE WAS SOMETHING OR SOMEONE TRAPPED THERE.
IT FELT LIKE A DESPERATE NEED FOR THIS PERSON OR THING TO BE HELPED.
Narrator: SO THEY CALL THE COUPLE TO MEET THEM BACK AT THE HOUSE TO DISCUSS WHAT TO DO NEXT.
HEY, HONEY.
HI.
HOW YOU DOING? YOU KNOW [CHUCKLES.]
I JUST WANT THEM TO FIND SOMETHING.
I KNOW.
I -- I DO, TOO.
JESS.
HI.
DUSTY.
WE'RE GONNA DO SOME MORE RESEARCH ON THE PROPERTY, AND, UH, IT MAY TAKE A WHILE.
WE'LL GET BACK TO YOU.
EXPECT THE ACTIVITY INSIDE THE HOUSE TO INCREASE A LITTLE BI WITHIN THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS.
THAT'S NORMAL WITH AN INVESTIGATION LIKE THIS.
OKAY.
ALL RIGHT.
WELL, THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME, JOHN.
APPRECIATE IT.
SHE'LL BE ALL RIGHT.
SEE YOU GUYS LATER.
THANK YOU.
THANK YOU.
"SHE'LL BE ALL RIGHT.
" [ CHUCKLES .]
Narrator: FOR JESS AND DUSTY, GETTING CONFIRMATION THAT THEIR HOME IS HAUNTED COMES AS SOMETHING OF A RELIEF.
THEY'RE NOT GOING CRAZY.
I'M SURE EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE, SWEETHEART.
YEAH.
WHY DON'T, UH -- WHY DON'T WE MAKE PLANS FOR YOU TO STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE FOR A WEEK OR TWO, OKAY? OKAY.
YEAH.
IT'LL BE OKAY.
THAT'S A GOOD IDEA.
BUT TONIGHT, IT'S TOO LATE TO MAKE A PLAN TO STAY ELSEWHERE.
AAH! CUPBOARDS WERE BEING OPEN AND SHUT.
Bye: DRAWERS BEING PULLED OPEN AND SLAMMED.
IT WAS LIKE THE KITCHEN JUST EXPLODED IN THAT HOUSE.
AAH! COME ON.
DUSTY, COME ON! STUFF WAS JUS BEING THROWN AROUND.
LIKE, SUDDENLY THEY JUST OWN THIS HOUSE, AND THEY WERE MAD.
[ CLATTERING .]
Marsh: IT LITERALLY SOUNDED LIKE PEOPLE JUST POUNDING ON THE WALL, "BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM.
" I THINK THAT IT DID ESCALATE THE ACTIVITY TO THE FACT THAT MAYBE THEY WERE TRYING TO COMMUNICATE, SAYING, "YEP, WE DO EXIST.
WE'RE HERE.
YOU PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW WHAT HAPPENED.
" Narrator: BUT WHEN THEY THINK THEY'RE OUT OF HARM'S WAY, THEY REALIZE THERE'S NOWHERE TO HIDE.
WHATEVER WAS IN THE HOME WAS CLEARLY MAD THAT WE HAD PEOPLE COME IN THEIR SPACE.
THEY WERE LETTING US KNOW THAT WAS UNACCEPTABLE.
Narrator: FOR MORE "ALASKA HAUNTING," GO TO Narrator: JESS AND DUSTY'S FORMER TRAPPER'S CABIN IS HAUNTED BY AN IRATE SPIRIT.
THEY HOPED BRINGING IN A TEAM OF PARANORMAL INVESTIGATORS WOULD BE THE ANSWER.
LET'S GET OUT OF HERE.
OKAY.
BUT IT'S MADE THINGS WORSE.
AAH! COME ON.
DUSTY, COME ON! WHATEVER WAS IN THE HOME WAS CLEARLY MAD THAT WE HAD HAD PEOPLE COME IN, AND I THINK IT WAS AN INVASION OF THEIR SPACE, AND THEY WERE LETTING US KNOW THAT WAS UNACCEPTABLE.
Narrator: THE NEXT DAY, KIRI FROM THE ALASKA GHOST HUNTERS RETURNS.
AFTER THE EXPERIENCE IN THE CRAWL SPACE, SHE LOOKED DEEPER INTO THE HISTORY OF THE LAND ON WHICH THE TRAPPER'S CABIN WAS BUILT.
THE DESCRIPTIONS THAT WE FIND OF THE PROPERTY AREAS BACK THEN ARE KIND OF LOOSE UNTIL AROUND THE 19 TEENS.
SO THE ONES THAT I TRIED TO FOCUS ON WERE JUST IN THAT SPECIFIC AREA WHERE THEIR HOME IS.
WE'RE EXCITED TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR FINDINGS.
Narrator: KIRI LEARNED THAT IN 1900, 40 YEARS BEFORE JESS AND DUSTY'S TRAPPER'S CABIN WAS BUILT, THE PROPERTY BELONGED TO A FARMER.
HE WAS PLOWING HIS FIELD AND STOPPED BECAUSE HE SAW WHAT LOOKED LIKE PART OF A BODY ON THE EDGE OF THE FOREST.
Narrator: DURING A MORE DETAILED SEARCH, BODIES WERE FOUND, ALONG WITH ARTIFACTS BELONGING TO AN ANCIENT NATIVE ALASKAN TRIBE CALLED THE ATHABASCANS.
AND THE LAND UPON WHICH JESS AND DUSTY'S CABIN NOW SITS WAS OF SPECIFIC IMPORTANCE TO THEM.
Abbas: IT WAS DISCOVERED IN MY RESEARCH THAT, IN THIS AREA, THERE WERE DENA'INA ATHABASCANS WHO HAD BEEN THERE AND ACTUALLY HAD BURIED SOME OF THEIR DEAD THERE.
THEY HAD A BURIAL AREA SPECIFICALLY FOR THEIR PEOPLE.
Narrator: THE SITE WOULD'VE CONTAINED MEN, WOMEN, AND CHILDREN.
OW.
SO KIRI CONCLUDES THA ONE OR MORE OF THESE SPIRITS COULD BE HAUNTING JESS AND DUSTY.
Abbas: THIS AREA IS WHERE THE BURIAL GROUNDS WERE, AND YOUR HOUSE IS RIGHT HERE NEAR THE EDGE OF THE GROUNDS AND PAR OF THE SURROUNDING AREA.
THE MAN THAT JESS SAW OUT IN THE WOODS BY HER HOUSE IN THE BACKYARD LOOKED LIKE A NATIVE ALASKAN MAN OR INDIAN MAN TO HER.
THINGS STARTED CLICKING.
OKAY, EXACTLY THE MAN IN THE MIST, THE NATIVE FEATURES, YOU KNOW.
Bye: THAT'S WHA IT WAS TRYING TO SHOW ME.
THERE'S SOMETHING -- THERE'S SOMETHING OVER THERE STILL ON THE PROPERTY.
I FELT VINDICATED THA WHAT I HAD FELT FROM DAY ONE WAS, IN FACT, THE CASE.
MY RECOMMENDATION TO THE HOMEOWNERS WAS TO HAVE THEIR HOME CLEANSED.
THEY DID NOT WANT TO DO THAT.
THEY DIDN'T WANT TO EVICT ANYTHING THAT WAS FINDING PEACE IN THEIR HOME.
I TRIED TO SWITCH GEARS AND NOT BE ON THE DEFENSIVE, AND JUST GO, "YOU KNOW WHAT? THEY'VE PROBABLY BEEN HERE FOR WHO KNOWS HOW LONG, AND THEN HERE WE COME ALONG.
" I THOUGHT ABOU HOW DISRESPECTFUL THAT WOULD BE.
Narrator: JESS AND DUSTY FEEL IT'S TIME TO FACE THE SPIRITS THEMSELVES.
SO THAT EVENING, JESS TRIES TO MAKE AMENDS.
Bye: MAYBE THEY HAVE EVERY RIGH TO BE ANGRY, SO I JUST DECIDED TO STAND IN THE KITCHEN AND TALK TO WHATEVER WAS THERE.
AND I APOLOGIZED.
I'M NOT HERE TO HURT YOU.
I'M NOT HERE TO DISRESPECT YOU.
I WANTED TO APOLOGIZE.
I SHOULD'VE TOLD YOU THE INVESTIGATORS WERE COMING.
WE DON'T WANT TO PUSH YOU OUT.
I JUST WANT TO FIND A WAY TO CONNECT WITH YOU SO THAT WE CAN ALL LIVE TOGETHER.
WHEN I DID THAT, IT'S LIKE A SWITCH JUST TURNED DOWN.
WE WERE STILL HAVING ACTIVITY BUT NOT AS HIGH AS IT WAS BEFORE.
IT NEVER COMPLETELY WENT AWAY.
[ CHILD LAUGHS .]
Narrator: IN THE END, JESS AND DUSTY DECIDE THAT THE INTENSITY OF THE PARANORMAL SPIRITS IS JUST TOO MUCH FOR THEM.
LET'S GO, HONEY.
IT WAS SAD TO SELL.
I REALLY LOVED THE PLACE.
I WISH I COULD'VE JUST PICKED IT UP AND TOOK IT WITH ME.
I ALMOST FELT SAD TO THINK THAT WHATEVER'S HERE IS BEING DISTURBED OR THEY'RE NOT AT PEACE.
OH, I CAN GUARANTEE YOU THEY'RE STILL THERE.
Abbas: I THINK ABOUT THEIR PROPERTIES AND WONDER ALL THE TIME, "WHAT HAPPENED THERE ORIGINALLY TO CREATE THIS ENVIRONMEN WHERE IT'S SO RICH IN EMOTION?" IT'S SOMETHING WE'LL PROBABLY NEVER KNOW, BUT IT'S CONSUMING TO THINK ABOUT.
Bye: I THINK ABOUT THAT HOUSE ALMOST EVERY DAY.
PART OF ME FEELS LIKE WE DIDN'T DO EVERYTHING WE COULD TO FIND OUT WHAT'S THERE.
MAYBE WE DIDN'T DO OUR DUE DILIGENCE TO COMPLETELY HELP THEM.
I FEEL LIKE IT'S NOT FINISHED.
