Back with the Ex (2018) s01e02 Episode Script
Episode 2
1
-Thank you. Good. How are you?
-Good. Thank you.
[narrator] After spending
their first day together
Thank you.
all of the couples have returned
to the hotel.
-Great night.
-Well, it hasn't finished yet.
[narrator] They all have separate rooms
So, I'm on this side.
-Um, yeah.
-Cool.
So we'll be neighbors tonight.
and will spend two nights here
Fancy schmancy.
getting reacquainted.
[Meg laughs]
Thank you.
[narrator] Erik and Lauren are
the last couple to return to the hotel.
I'm 741.
Well, thank you. I'm going to hit the sack
'cause I'm really tired.
Okay. All right.
[narrator] After a six-year relationship,
it took Erik another six years to realize
that Lauren is the one for him.
[Erik] This is pretty sweet.
Too bad she's not around to see it.
Romantic room, champagne on ice,
two glasses. Yeah.
But the percentage that
Lauren would actually knock on my door
and make moves on me,
probably zero to nothing,
because she seems
like she's got her wall up.
But good things come to those who wait.
-[Lauren] Hi, it's just me.
-Hey.
I've got a really nice bottle
of champagne,
so before we say goodnight,
did you want to come and have a glass?
-Sure.
-Okay.
I invited Erik over
to have a goodnight drink.
I'm letting him know
that I am happy to be seeing him again.
[Lauren chuckles]
[Erik] I'd be lying
if I didn't expect something,
or it wasn't crossing my mind
for something to happen.
[Lauren laughs]
-It's so nice.
-It's comfy.
[Lauren] Okay, it's my bed.
-[Erik] Oh.
-[Lauren] Time to leave.
Unfortunately, nothing happened.
-[Lauren] Good night. See you.
-[Erik] Good night.
I respect that.
Like, good things come to those who wait.
[narrator] It's the morning
after the big reunion.
The anticipation of love is lingering.
But our exes are waking up alone
in their hotel rooms.
And today is all about processing
where their heads are at.
[yawns]
Diary cam.
Hello.
Hello, this is Diane.
Hey, everyone. This is my first diary cam.
Pause.
So, um, updates.
Just seeing Peter for the first time
in 28 some years was incredible.
Yeah, it was awesome, actually.
Brought back a whole lot of memories.
Doing fun stuff like that
that we used to do.
It's been great seeing Erik again.
It was like slow motion
when she walked around.
It was like
[slowly] hello
[narrator] Four couples are giving love
another shot with their former flame.
Me and Meg had a good night,
until she got moody when she was tired.
[narrator] Meg and Jeremy fell
head over heels in love 11 years ago,
but it was a tumultuous relationship
and they split up four years ago.
[Jeremy] Yesterday was just typical Meg.
It was up and down all day
just ended with her not in the mood.
[Meg] Yesterday was full-on.
I definitely haven't made things easy.
I have been moody,
but after having a sleep,
I hope that we can see it through.
I hope we can make something of it.
So, here's to me.
Here's to us restarting over fresh.
Clean slate.
[narrator] Fitness freak Erik is
working hard to win back Lauren's love.
[Erik] Yesterday actually went
pretty awesome,
compared to what I thought
was gonna happen.
[Lauren] Couple of times,
I don't think he's been himself.
But I think he's just nervous.
Like, I'm nervous as well, and
I just think it's gonna take
a little bit of time
for us to get comfortable
with each other again.
[Erik] Today, I'm hoping
to get Lauren's guard down
and see if we can reconnect
on a slightly different level.
[Lauren] Yeah, I just hope
that he's a bit more relaxed as well,
and we can go back to our usual selves
and just enjoy each other's company.
[narrator] High school sweethearts
Kate and Cam spent three years together.
Cam's still coy about giving this a shot,
but Kate's motivated
to make it work with her ex.
[Kate] Getting back with an ex,
there's always that chance
that it's gonna be
a really bad idea
and that it's gonna be daunting,
and I guess it could be
a little bit awkward,
but we're taking things really slowly,
which is nice.
I think, um, it's just about
building that groundwork again.
[Cam] It's been three years
since we broke up.
And when she reached out to me,
I was actually confused.
Who knows
Honestly, who knows how this is gonna go?
[doorbell rings]
Oh! [laughs]
What is this?
[Kate] It's so typical Cam. He used to do
stuff like this all the time.
Put presents at my door and then just run.
He's brilliant.
Oh, yum!
Oh, my God, he's so cute.
I think the spark is definitely
is definitely still there.
I've been here all night.
[Peter] Peter fell in love
while on holiday 28 years ago
with American beauty Diane.
After flying halfway around the world,
Diane is happy to see
if the spark ignites.
I want to get to know him
on an adult level, on a friendship level,
and find out what he's all about now.
-Good morning.
-Good morning.
-Were you seriously still asleep?
-Yes.
[Diane] Peter comes in, and he embraces me
with his big, broad shoulders,
and I thought, "Oh, this feels so good."
That's my coffee.
[Diane] And I was happy that
he wasn't upset about the night before.
I mean, you're quite full of energy
early in the morning. [laughs]
-Well, I've had a good sleep.
-You have? Good.
I wanted to express to him that I care,
and that I'm still so excited to see him,
and I still have
all those feelings of passion towards him,
but that I want to take it slow.
[Peter] I get it
and I understood it, so
Right at this moment,
there's nothing more important in my life
than spending time with my ex right now.
Today, we got something pretty exciting
to do in Sydney.
-We're gonna be kayaking on the harbor.
-Wow.
[knock at door]
Meg, I brought you breakfast.
[narrator] Today, our couples
will be reminding themselves
why it's worth
giving love a second chance.
So I'm gonna take you out on a date today,
and we're going to a trampoline park,
and it's gonna be epic.
It's gonna be epic, is it?
[narrator] These first crucial days
are all about getting to know each other
all over again.
Enjoy. I can't believe you're here still.
-[Jeremy] Oh, I've got brain freeze!
-[both laughing]
[narrator] Erik took Lauren ice-skating
on their very first date,
and now he's brought her back here
in the hope that
the memories will trigger some romance.
I don't want to embarrass myself
and fall over again.
No, you'll be fine.
[Lauren] The first time
we went ice-skating together,
I was trying hard to impress Erik.
Can you help me?
I can help you.
-It's like the glass slipper.
-[Lauren laughs]
I think this time
it's his turn to impress me.
Let me show you my moves.
Please don't let me go.
-Like, seriously.
-Come on.
-[Lauren chuckles]
-Come on.
Walk. Walk, walk, walk, walk, walk.
[Lauren] I don't wanna fall.
[Erik] You'll be fine.
[Lauren] Okay.
Don't No, no, no, no
[Erik] I'm on a high.
I'm thinking about planting
a cheeky little kiss
somewhere along the way.
Maybe even come behind her
and, you know, cop a feel here and there.
-I'll come behind you.
-No, no, no, no, no, no!
-Stay there.
-Uh what?
-[Lauren laughs] Don't.
-Let's try it.
I think with the little cheeky moves
I'm throwing in there and stuff,
-she seems keen
-Erik!
but we'll see how we go.
You said you have all these new skills
to show me.
I do have a skill
I'd like to show you.
Probably not necessarily
with ice-skating.
-Okay.
-[laughs]
Erik!
Are you okay?
Seriously, I don't know
how I'm gonna pick you up.
-Are you okay?
-Yeah.
-Are you sure?
-I've taken one for the team now.
-Oh, the team, hey?
-The team.
Are we a team or not a team?
[Lauren chuckles]
That was the Kermy face.
It was. It was the Kermy face, was it?
Lauren calls me Kermy
as in Kermit the Frog,
because apparently I look like a Muppet
with my mouth open.
[Lauren laughs]
[Erik] I don't like it at all.
It's not a manly nickname,
but it's her nickname for me,
so it's our private little thing.
-Am I allowed to call you Tiger?
-If you'd like.
I call Lauren Tiger
because there is a feisty side to her
that pops out every once in a while.
-All right, Tiger. Tiger it is.
-[chuckles]
[horn honks]
[narrator] Despite a bitter breakup
four years ago,
Jeremy wants to remind Meg
how much fun they can have together.
[Jeremy] I want to try
and make this work with Meg.
I want to be able to do things
that I do with my friends with Meg.
-Oh, Meg, are you ready?
-Oh. [laughs]
Check it out.
I want Meg to be like a friend
as well as someone that I'm dating.
Come on, Meg.
[Meg laughs] You're a dick.
I'm stuck.
[Meg laughs]
-If I pull you, I'm gonna get stuck.
-[grunts]
-[straining]
-[Meg laughs] You're a dickhead.
He makes me smile, he makes me laugh.
No!
He's the one
that I always want to go back to.
He's the person
that I always want to call first.
But I feel like my moods can make him feel
a little bit unwanted.
[sighs]
So, how do you feel about last night?
I had fun with you.
We had such a good time.
And it just sort of
I understand you were--
-It came to a sudden stop?
-Yeah.
I'm sorry
if I hurt your feelings by doing that.
I didn't mean to do that.
I kind of, was thinking about me
and I was thinking about
the way that I felt, and
and I just wasn't
I wasn't in a good headspace.
It makes me feel like I'm not wanted
when you're just like,
"No, just leave. I'm not in the mood."
It's like you're not in the mood for me,
like I can't even cheer you up.
Yeah, so I need to relax a little bit
and not be so headstrong.
You don't need to relax.
I understand you're in a bad mood, but
I just want you to be happy all the time.
Do you get it?
Yeah, I do. I get it. I understand that.
-Do you want to give me a hug?
-Yeah, I do.
Don't wipe your sweat on me, but.
[both laughing]
[Jeremy] Are we making out
on a trampoline?
[Meg] We're not making out
on the trampoline.
I'm still feeling very shy towards you.
I don't know why.
-I know. Yeah?
-I know.
I know I can be a bit off-putting.
It's okay.
[both laughing]
"Shy" is a nice euphemism. Thank you.
[Diane] Some of it felt great.
The other part in me
felt a little nervous.
It probably still feels unreal that
you're sitting in the back of the car.
I know.
And that you're talking freely
and sharing everything that's going on.
It's lovely.
-[Peter] Yeah, it's good.
-[Diane] Yeah.
Just never expected this, ever.
It's beautiful.
[narrator] And Peter knows
exactly how to get Diane's heart racing.
Why did you bring me here?
What are we gonna do?
Is that a hint?
-I know. I feel like it's a hint.
-We're going kayaking. Yes.
[Diane exclaims]
[Peter] Diane clearly has a passion
for life.
I could see that when we first met.
So, this is our craft.
[Peter] But it just seems
to have gotten stronger.
-I'm so excited.
-Got it all set up for us, eh?
I can just see it in her eyes
and see it in her attitude to things.
And I'm very similar, in a way,
though I will say
it's been probably suppressed
to some extent in recent years.
Oh There we go.
-I'll follow you. [laughs]
-All right.
But it's just like
she's released the fun valve.
She's certainly opened the floodgates
to my passion pit,
if you wanna call it that. [laughing]
-Are you fine?
-Yes!
-Fearless?
-Fearless. Yes.
Good. Okay.
-Fearless with you.
-[chuckles]
[Diane] I think that knowing already
that we are passionately connected
takes away a lot of pressure
and uncertainties.
I love doing this with you.
And so now we're exploring
other parts of the relationship
to see if it can come into one big one.
[Diane squeals and laughs]
And it's exciting.
[Diane sighs] So romantic.
I couldn't ask for a better way
to spend the day.
[squeals and chuckles]
He is a romantic thing, my Peter.
I call him "my Peter."
I'm a little out of practice,
but I'm gaining it back rapidly.
So, what are you looking for?
-Well, I'm looking right at her right now.
-Ah.
That's quite sweet.
It's really fun to start to explore
the bantering and the teasing
-You have to go high.
-[both laugh]
and the feeding him grapes
and strawberries
-No one's done that for me for a while.
-[laughs]
and sort of being coy. [chuckles]
-It's fun sort of teasing you a bit.
-Mmm.
[both chuckle]
I can be a bit naughty.
It's really in my nature.
I know that.
[both laughing]
[Diane] I'm feeling really wonderful
about Peter right now.
I'm feeling
that he's being sincere and genuine,
and that he cares for me,
and that's exciting
to have someone express it.
It's a new place for me to be in.
I haven't been in that place in a while,
so it's lovely and I hope it progresses.
-[Peter] To us.
-[Diane] Yes, to us.
Oh, it melts me inside.
It's pretty special.
And we're just rediscovering this now.
[narrator] After a fun morning,
Meg and Jeremy
are getting into the swing of dating.
When we kissed,
it sort of made me feel really excited
and I was really happy,
and it makes you see,
like, the nice, bright side of Meg.
I really enjoyed kissing Meg.
We kissed and it was cute,
but I still inside have doubts.
He can definitely be
a jealous and insecure person at times.
Just before we walked into the restaurant,
I sort of found out that she'd seen
someone that I know.
[Meg] I'm not seeing anybody.
He's the only person that I have kissed.
-Oh.
-Yeah. See?
You ask for it and now I'm telling you,
and now you don't wanna hear it.
Hearing about her hook up
with other people
makes me feel like shit.
-So, you are, like, seeing each other?
-No.
-You've got a boyfriend?
-No.
You expect me
to try and fall in love with you--
[sighs] Am I really gonna hear this?
-I don't know, you're just telling me--
-You asked
You asked and I told you and
now you're getting shitty at me because
I'm not shitty. I'm not shitty.
-you're prying
-'Cause I'm what? I'm prying?
You're prying.
Oh, well, it's a bit hard to
make someone else's girlfriend like me.
You're making up stories in your own head.
You'll never be happy with me.
I'm an idiot
trying to make someone else's girlfriend
love me.
Not once did I say
that I was going out with him.
So it's completely up to you.
I know how I feel.
He says stupid things sometimes.
Things that he doesn't think
are gonna hurt people's feelings,
but they do.
If Jeremy wants to get back with me,
then respect and trust
needs to be there 110%.
A million percent.
-[Jeremy] Hey, guys.
-[Meg] Hi.
-How you doing? Jeremy.
-Very nice to meet you.
-Meg. Lovely to meet you.
-Very nice to meet you.
Welcome to the Lotus Galeries.
This way, please.
Thanks.
[Jeremy] Now I'm not in the mood
for dumplings.
And she's pissed me off
a little bit and it's it's
I do love dumplings, but [laughs]
[waiter] Ready?
-These are our dumplings.
-Look at that beautiful dumpling.
[Meg and Jeremy laugh]
[Jeremy] She thinks that I care more
that she was with someone else,
and it's not so much that.
It's more the fact I'm pissed off
with how she can just jump
from one person to another person.
And I don't want her
to just change her mind
and jump from me to someone else.
Mmm. It's actually really good.
That sauce is hot.
It's good, but.
You order even things
that I don't think I would want to try.
[chuckles] And I actually give it a go
and it's not too bad.
What about your other boyfriends?
What are they like?
[chuckles] Thanks, Jeremy.
Do they like going out
to eat food like this with you?
I don't think you want me to answer that.
Why not?
'Cause you got upset before
and you'll get upset now.
No, I won't.
I've been really, really mean
to Meg before,
and I've been an asshole.
She's giving me a shot
but she hasn't forgotten the things
that I said or did.
That's what I'm here for.
I want you to tell me what I'm like.
You're an asshole.
And I don't want to
And I don't want to be like that.
Yeah, and I want to try and change
and make it so that it works.
I hate it.
What about if I try not to be an asshole?
Then, good. Try.
-I'm trying. I'm trying to be different.
-All right.
-Oh
-[woman] How are you?
-Hi. How are you?
-Good. How are you?
[narrator] Kate reckons
Cam's the one that got away.
[Kate] These are gonna look
really stylish.
[narrator] It's now been three years
since their split,
and she's hoping
he'll give it one more go.
After reuniting yesterday,
today Kate plans to woo Cam
with some good old-fashioned flirting.
[Kate] Oh, my God.
I want to get back with my ex
because he was my first true love,
as cliché as that sounds.
That was so close. Yeah, that was
-Ugh!
-That was still pretty good.
[Kate] What makes me nervous
about giving this relationship another go
would be the worry
that maybe we are just friends.
Maybe we can't get that spark back,
as much as I desperately would want it.
Maybe it's just not there anymore.
Team Kate. Whoo-hoo!
[chuckles]
-Come on, baby.
-Where's my cheer squad?
Oh
I don't know how I'll top that.
I don't know how I'm gonna beat that.
Bloody hell, you're great.
-Shut up.
-[Cam laughs]
Flirting, it's like probing somebody.
You get to see what level they are at
and where they are
and how cheeky they can be.
You find out a lot more about them
from just a few cheeky comments.
Like the dad bod?
And if they react with
the same sort of thing, it's awesome.
-Oh, yeah, work it.
-[laughing]
I nearly tripped.
[Kate] Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Oh!
-Close, yet so far.
-I nearly axed myself.
-Yeah, you nearly fell over
-Yeah, I know.
That would've been hilarious.
Cam still doesn't have
any smooth moves at all, but
it's what I love about him, really.
All right, if I get a strike,
you owe me a kiss.
Considering you haven't got
any strikes yet,
we'll see how that goes.
Have faith.
It's sort of endearing
that he is still such a dweeb.
-[both laughing]
-Did you actually just get a strike?
-That was really good.
-Come on, pay up.
Just the one.
Thank you. That's a fair deal.
The kiss was fantastic. It was perfect.
Here you go, my lady.
-After you.
-Oh, thank you, kind sir.
[Cam] When I saw that Pontiac,
I knew I had to take up the opportunity
of making a move on her in there.
This just reminds me of, like
remember the first time?
I kissed you first.
No, I kissed you the first time.
Uh no.
-You were way too much of a pansy.
-No.
-"Pansy"?
-Yes.
I don't think I can let you
make the first move anymore.
-Oh, really? Have you grown some balls?
-[both laugh]
I think I have.
Wow. I'm so sassy.
-You are sassy.
-No, I'm not.
So, would you mind
if I, um, laid one on you?
-I'm sorry, is that how you're gonna
-Yeah.
[chuckles] Is that how you're actually
Is that your move?
-That's me making the first move.
-Is that your move?
That's pathetic. [chuckles]
-Thank you.
-No, thank you.
If he showed up with all the moves,
all the right things to say
I don't know if I'd be interested.
That's It's just not Cam.
It's not who I know
and who I fell in love with.
So I'm almost glad
he's still just as dorky as ever.
[narrator] Erik loves to joke around
and he's got a few tricks up his sleeve
to win Lauren over.
What do you think we're gonna be up to?
-I have no idea.
-Why is that?
[Lauren] I'm not sure
what Erik's organized here
but I'm getting a bit scared.
I'm nervous because
I don't like being surprised and
I'm just feeling a bit embarrassed already
and I don't even know what it is.
So, what are we doing?
[Erik] You're gonna find out
very, very shortly.
Hello.
Hello. Welcome to
our life drawing session.
This life drawing is about
having a bit of fun,
getting a bit sexual,
getting a bit cheeky.
Is there gonna be a naked person?
Possibly. There's a stage up there.
-What do you reckon?
-[laughs]
Go on. Get your gear off.
I'm not taking my clothes off.
-Why not?
-Because
You've done it for me once before.
When?
-When we went on the photo shoot.
-I wasn't naked.
You don't want to do it now?
-I don't want to.
-Really?
-You can.
-Okay.
I have worked hard on my body
over the last five years,
so showing it off to Lauren
will be a great surprise.
I want to see her reaction,
see what she thinks.
Genuine thoughts and feelings
would be great.
[Lauren] I can't watch this.
[Erik] She hasn't seen this body
in five years.
She's been missing out.
I feel like a little schoolgirl.
[both chuckle]
[Erik] Why are you embarrassed?
[Lauren] I don't know.
I think I'm embarrassed for you.
You shouldn't be.
[chuckling] Okay. I can't even look.
Oh, gosh.
You don't want me to get my gear off?
[Lauren] But stay facing that wall.
-Well, like this?
-Yeah.
-And then like this?
-Yep.
[Erik] Okay. How's this?
[Lauren] I can't even look.
[Erik] How's this?
[Lauren] This is the old Erik,
you know, making me laugh and
How you going over there?
[Lauren] making me embarrassed and
I'm trying my best.
Your cheeks are getting red.
He's got a lot of confidence,
that's all I can say.
[Erik] Giggling like a little schoolgirl.
[chuckles] Well, this is really awkward.
[Erik] Really? Why is it awkward?
It's been a long time
since I've seen you naked.
Can you see anything
you don't want to see?
I'm You're fine.
I'm fine?
-Why aren't you looking at me?
-Just let me concentrate.
Do I look as good as you remember?
-You look better.
-I look better?
-Honestly, you do.
-Really?
Does my butt look big?
Your butt looks great.
-Which is your favorite muscle?
-The arm muscle.
The arm muscle?
Are you talking about this one?
Yes.
-Do you want me to turn more to the side?
-Just stay how you are.
Is there anything you can't see?
Are you using your imagination?
I'm not talking to you.
-Why not?
-I'm concentrating.
[Erik] Do I get to keep this?
I don't know what I'm doing here.
This Your hands look like bananas.
[Erik] Erik the banana man.
I'm sorry, I'm doing my best I can.
I'm not much of a drawer.
I can't draw feet.
[Erik] You can't draw feet?
[Lauren] Your legs are really short
in my drawing.
[Erik laughs]
So I'm a dwarf with banana arms?
[Lauren] With big monkey feet.
[Erik] And big monkey feet. Great.
You're doing some long strokes over there.
[chuckles] Yeah, they're your legs.
-Something.
-Stop being naughty.
I'm not being naughty.
You seem to be in a happy state right now.
Stop it.
Okay. I think I'm done.
-Really?
-Yep.
Can I see?
Why don't you come and have a look?
Sure. Why not?
What the
-Do you like it?
-I love it.
-Can I hang it on my fridge?
-Yep.
[Erik] I am happy
how this turned out as a date.
I was worried, just trying to gauge
how it was gonna all go down
but I just let the day unfold
and it went down perfectly.
-I don't know where to look.
-Why not?
I don't know.
I'm getting really embarrassed.
You shouldn't be embarrassed at all.
I've bared all for Lauren now
and I think
everything's on the table, literally.
Uh, so, yeah, I don't think
there should be any more awkwardness.
-Thank you so much.
-Okay.
Do you want me to go put
my clothes back on?
Yes, please.
All right. I will.
[narrator] Our couples
have been asked to bring
an important item
from their past relationship
-[Jeremy] What's in the box?
-[Meg chuckles]
and we've put those pieces
in a memory box.
-[Peter] Memory box?
-[Diane] Memory box.
But it's not gonna be big enough
to hold all the memories we have.
What do you reckon?
I don't know.
[narrator] Ready for our exes
to work through
the good and the bad from their past.
"Open this box to unlock your past."
-[Kate] Ooh.
-[Cam] Oh, man.
All right. I'm quite nervous,
to be honest.
-What is that?
-[Kate laughs]
[Cam] Oh, my God. Are you serious?
It's what you got me that day
and you left it at my door.
Are you serious?
I haven't seen him in years.
You still have that?
Yeah. I thought it was
the most random thing, so I kept it.
Weird but kind of cool, just like you.
Oh, my God. [chuckles]
I really like to hold onto things
that remind me of good times.
Um, anything that holds
a happy memory for me, I always keep it.
"Dear Kate, I know it's corny and lame,
but I just thought to get you this gift
as a way to remind you that I love you
and when you look at it,
I just hope you think that
I am your knight in shining armor."
What I like best is that on the side
in big writing, you write, "Love me."
Knowing that you probably think
it's corny as hell.
Yeah. Yeah.
Oh, my God.
How long ago was that?
I can't believe it.
I'm actually quite shocked
that you kept something like that.
I did not think she would keep that.
That was the first thing I thought
she would ever get rid of.
And she still has it.
And that says so much.
No, I've actually never thrown out
anything that you've got me, ever.
So, just think back to every gift
-Oh, my God.
-you got me over the years.
I haven't thrown any of it out.
-Is this, like
-I kept that actually intact.
-Is this your first phone?
-Yes.
What the hell?
How do you still have this?
-I have not seen this
-Oh!
for such a long time.
[Kate] What is that?
-Did you put a piece of gum on my head?
-Yeah, it's
I look like I've just woken up.
Like, "What have you done to me
this time, Cam?"
-[Cam] Your face says it all.
-[Kate laughs]
[Cam] I reckon it's fantastic that I've
actually kept those photos of you and I.
-Yeah.
-Look how young we look.
Look how sweet we are. Oh!
And we're matching, too.
I'm wearing maroon pants,
you've got a maroon top.
Aw!
It was really nice to be able to
look through all those memories with Cam.
Oh, stop.
Your background is a picture of us.
I think that's the only background
I ever had.
They were all happy memories
and when I think back,
we really didn't have any memories
that weren't happy, to be honest, so
Yeah.
Look at all the messages.
There are so many.
What?
When Kate cheated,
she wasn't up-front about it.
I found out via text message.
There's absolutely no good way
to tell someone that you've
betrayed their trust and cheated on them.
Cheating on Cam is the biggest regret
I've had in my entire life.
How do you move on from that?
[narrator] Meg and Jeremy
broke up four years ago
when he left to go exploring overseas
without her and it left Meg heartbroken.
[Meg] I don't know what this is.
[Jeremy] These are photos
from when I was in Europe.
Running with the bulls.
Zagreb, Croatia with the boys.
Look how young everybody is. Look at you.
Those were really good times,
so, looking back on it,
they were really good memories.
Were you upset or were you, like,
sort of excited for me
to go, like, travel?
[voice breaking] I can't remember.
Oh, don't.
I did hurt. I hurt heaps.
I hurt a lot when he was gone.
And I don't want to think about that.
I don't want to think
about those sort of things.
What's wrong?
[Meg] I was jealous.
I'm sure I was jealous of the things
that he was off doing.
And I think I was worried
he would go over there and he would
forget about me and then
Oh, don't. I don't wanna talk about this.
I'm not talking about this anymore.
It was definitely hard at first.
It was hard at first.
And then it got easier and then, like,
I'm sure we slowly stopped talking,
which made it easier.
I don't know.
I don't want to re-venture that.
-I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I left you.
-You don't have to be sorry.
I should've taken you with me.
No, I probably wouldn't have wanted to go.
We wouldn't have had fun.
We wouldn't have had fun together,
not at the stage that we were at.
We needed that break.
I didn't think it would last this long,
that we'd be apart.
Yeah, I do think that she's forgiven me
for packing up and leaving.
We were always arguing
and it was a pretty shit time with Meg,
so I don't know, it definitely
It needed to happen.
-Ready? One, two, three.
-Yeah.
[Diane] One, two, three.
[Peter] Oh, wow.
I know exactly where that is.
Niagara Falls. What do you think
of my blond bouffant and mullet?
[Diane] I loved your hair.
You liked it back then, did you?
-I liked your high-waisted jeans, too.
-Oh, yes.
Do you want to look at the pictures?
Looking at those pictures
of Niagara Falls,
I don't remember much of Niagara Falls
as much as, like, being in bed with him.
We traveled, we did things, but we also
spent a lot of time horizontal.
And vertical and upside down.
-[Peter] The keys are in the car.
-[both laughing]
Did we drive this to Florida, to Sarasota,
to see my parents?
-I believe we did, yes.
-We did.
It was like, then, life couldn't be
more perfect for me.
Many years later,
it was some time before I got married,
probably pretty close to it, actually.
Before I made the plunge, you know,
I called your parents' home and I thought,
"I've just got to reach out and see
where Diane is these days."
And your dad answered the phone
and he said, "Well, she's married now
and she's living in Miami
and she's got a young child."
And I said, "Well,
I'm really pleased for her."
I said, "Just wish her the best for me."
My memory of the phone call was that
my dad called me
and said that you had called.
-And my heart went [gasps]
-Oh, I didn't know that.
And I said, "Did you get a number?"
And he goes, "No."
He goes, "You didn't need to talk to him.
You're married."
-I went, "Oh"
-It's good that he let you know.
Yeah. Yeah.
I'm glad you're here now.
[Peter] I was really surprised
that she was really disappointed
she couldn't get back in touch
with me at the time.
It's hard to say
what would've happened but, uh
[Diane gasps]
-Oh, it's the 45.
-I know, it's a 45.
Let me play it for you.
That was a song
that always reminded me of Peter.
-[evocative music playing]
-You wanna dance with me?
-[laughing] Yeah, okay.
-Yeah?
Oh, wow.
Hearing this song
and I'd just start to think about you
and I'd go, "Oh, my gosh."
But through the years,
ah, it would just touch my heart.
I would think of him and kind of swell up
with emotions and think,
"We were so good together," and I wonder
why we just didn't jump into it.
Nothing compares. Nothing compares.
Do you think we're a bit too close
to that bed or what?
I'm gonna push you down and [exclaims]
A little present.
[narrator] Lauren and Erik
split up six years ago
and after a fun day together,
they're both looking forward
to unearthing some of their
magical moments from the past.
Let's do it.
[Lauren] The memories are definitely
flooding back and mostly good memories,
which right at this moment
I'm happy I'm feeling, you know,
that excitement again
of how I used to feel when I was with him.
-What do you reckon?
-I don't know.
[Erik] Uh-oh.
Oh, my God.
-[Erik chuckles]
-A letter I wrote to you.
See how much I loved you?
"I would really like it if you could
kiss my lips and forehead
before you go to sleep and hold me tight,
but if you don't want to,
then that's okay.
I'll still love you just the same."
If I was me, as a girlfriend,
I would love me.
[Erik chuckles]
Look how much I used to do for you.
I filled your water bottles
Done my washing, cleaning.
You were a full wifey.
It's nice to hear Erik telling me
that he missed little things about me,
the little notes I used to leave.
Why did you keep that?
That was one of the longest ones
you actually wrote.
[Lauren] It's also making me
a little bit angry
because I really want to know
why he didn't appreciate that before
and what's made him now realize
that these were good things.
I'm sorry I didn't jump up with joy
and say, "Oh, wow, you're fantastic,"
and everything like that.
You took it upon yourself to say,
"I want to do, you know,
the wifey type stuff."
I did. I really did appreciate it.
It was amazing that someone wanted to
actually do stupid little nothings for me.
And I felt like
I never really showed that to you.
-And it upset you.
-Yeah.
I look back and I think,
"Wow, I was so in love with you
that you couldn't do wrong."
And I just accepted
so much bad treatment from you.
Um and that's not me today.
Like, I look back and I think,
"Who is this girl?"
-Yeah.
-Yeah, I may not be the girl that you
-Once knew?
-Yeah, exactly.
-Oh, God.
-Uh-oh.
Breast enlargements.
This was in the birthday card you gave me.
What?
-No. No. No.
-Yeah.
One birthday, Erik gave me a birthday card
with $10,000 inside
And I gave you two options
[Lauren] with options to
either pay off my tuition
And the other option was?
or to get breast augmentation.
Yeah, it was inclining to swing that way,
but I was never a force.
That's a big part of what really
used to make me upset,
is that I used to feel,
"Why can't you just love me for me?"
Wasn't I already good enough or
-Of course you were.
-Okay.
So why did you want me
to get breast implants?
I thought it may have been something
that you were considering.
I was only gonna support it.
I never forced it upon you at all.
I didn't say, "You have to do this."
But you wanted it. You wanted me to.
I'm a guy. Of course.
I mean, I like them. Of course.
I don't think any guy out there would say,
"Oh, no, my girlfriend's getting
breast implants."
I have met other guys
that have said they don't care.
Erik, you changed every part of me.
You were going to break up with me
if I didn't cut my hair.
-That's not true.
-Yes, it is true.
And my nails, I could not have
just had my nails like this.
-Your always made me have
-What--
-What? You're saying
-Why are you not being honest?
So you're saying I was controlling
You controlled every way I looked.
-I was happy with your appearance
-You weren't.
-Well, why did you make me cut my hair?
-What? I didn't.
-You were free to
-Erik, you booked the salon.
You were free to actually go
and do whatever you wanted to do.
But you told me you would break up with me
if I didn't cut my hair.
No, I didn't. No, I didn't.
I never said that at all.
-Can you be honest?
-I'm being honest.
Erik, why are you lying?
I'm not How am I lying?
Erik, let's start from the beginning.
Did you book the salon to get my hair cut?
No. We--
-Did you find that salon at Newtown?
-No.
So, who found the salon? I didn't.
I would never have gone
to a salon like that.
-Can you answer the question?
-Yes.
-Did you find that salon?
-Yeah, I did.
Okay. So, why?
It was a random selection.
It wasn't a specific, like
-Erik, just be honest.
-I'm being honest.
-What was it about them that you chose?
-Nothing.
Because they did kooky hairstyles
and you wanted my hair like that?
-No.
-You did.
And then you suggested,
"Why don't you shave underneath?"
-That's not me, but I gradually
-I know it's not you.
gradually grew to like it
because I saw how happy it made you.
And then, as soon as it would grow
a little bit longer, you'd say,
"Oh, you need to cut
You need to shave your hair again.
Like, it's getting long."
You did.
All right. Okay, well
-Stop lying!
-I'm not lying.
I can't do I'm sorry.
[Erik] That's bullshit.
Two seconds.
No. Two seconds what?
You're lying about everything.
Fine. If you think that
You're trying to make everyone think
that you're innocent. You're not.
You said, "What's the rule, Tiger?"
before I went into the salon.
And I go, "Oh, you want the pink bit
shorter than the
The white bit has to be longer."
Okay.
That was your rule.
-You're trying to
-Because you liked long nails.
You're trying to say to me
that I basically controlled your life,
-uh, according to my
-You did!
Oh, my God. It's sinking in. Yes.
This is why I'd do
anything you wanted me to do.
Erik
She's making me out to be some sort of
power-hungry control-freak type person,
which is news to me.
It was never brought up as an issue
when we were dating.
[Lauren] It's making me realize how bad
I used to feel when I was with Erik.
I never felt good enough for him,
and this is just bringing it all back
to me now.
It's making me feel vulnerable again.
It's making me realize the extent
that Erik tried to change me.
-Hey.
-Erik, just leave me alone. Please.
[Lauren sniffling]
[theme music playing]
-Thank you. Good. How are you?
-Good. Thank you.
[narrator] After spending
their first day together
Thank you.
all of the couples have returned
to the hotel.
-Great night.
-Well, it hasn't finished yet.
[narrator] They all have separate rooms
So, I'm on this side.
-Um, yeah.
-Cool.
So we'll be neighbors tonight.
and will spend two nights here
Fancy schmancy.
getting reacquainted.
[Meg laughs]
Thank you.
[narrator] Erik and Lauren are
the last couple to return to the hotel.
I'm 741.
Well, thank you. I'm going to hit the sack
'cause I'm really tired.
Okay. All right.
[narrator] After a six-year relationship,
it took Erik another six years to realize
that Lauren is the one for him.
[Erik] This is pretty sweet.
Too bad she's not around to see it.
Romantic room, champagne on ice,
two glasses. Yeah.
But the percentage that
Lauren would actually knock on my door
and make moves on me,
probably zero to nothing,
because she seems
like she's got her wall up.
But good things come to those who wait.
-[Lauren] Hi, it's just me.
-Hey.
I've got a really nice bottle
of champagne,
so before we say goodnight,
did you want to come and have a glass?
-Sure.
-Okay.
I invited Erik over
to have a goodnight drink.
I'm letting him know
that I am happy to be seeing him again.
[Lauren chuckles]
[Erik] I'd be lying
if I didn't expect something,
or it wasn't crossing my mind
for something to happen.
[Lauren laughs]
-It's so nice.
-It's comfy.
[Lauren] Okay, it's my bed.
-[Erik] Oh.
-[Lauren] Time to leave.
Unfortunately, nothing happened.
-[Lauren] Good night. See you.
-[Erik] Good night.
I respect that.
Like, good things come to those who wait.
[narrator] It's the morning
after the big reunion.
The anticipation of love is lingering.
But our exes are waking up alone
in their hotel rooms.
And today is all about processing
where their heads are at.
[yawns]
Diary cam.
Hello.
Hello, this is Diane.
Hey, everyone. This is my first diary cam.
Pause.
So, um, updates.
Just seeing Peter for the first time
in 28 some years was incredible.
Yeah, it was awesome, actually.
Brought back a whole lot of memories.
Doing fun stuff like that
that we used to do.
It's been great seeing Erik again.
It was like slow motion
when she walked around.
It was like
[slowly] hello
[narrator] Four couples are giving love
another shot with their former flame.
Me and Meg had a good night,
until she got moody when she was tired.
[narrator] Meg and Jeremy fell
head over heels in love 11 years ago,
but it was a tumultuous relationship
and they split up four years ago.
[Jeremy] Yesterday was just typical Meg.
It was up and down all day
just ended with her not in the mood.
[Meg] Yesterday was full-on.
I definitely haven't made things easy.
I have been moody,
but after having a sleep,
I hope that we can see it through.
I hope we can make something of it.
So, here's to me.
Here's to us restarting over fresh.
Clean slate.
[narrator] Fitness freak Erik is
working hard to win back Lauren's love.
[Erik] Yesterday actually went
pretty awesome,
compared to what I thought
was gonna happen.
[Lauren] Couple of times,
I don't think he's been himself.
But I think he's just nervous.
Like, I'm nervous as well, and
I just think it's gonna take
a little bit of time
for us to get comfortable
with each other again.
[Erik] Today, I'm hoping
to get Lauren's guard down
and see if we can reconnect
on a slightly different level.
[Lauren] Yeah, I just hope
that he's a bit more relaxed as well,
and we can go back to our usual selves
and just enjoy each other's company.
[narrator] High school sweethearts
Kate and Cam spent three years together.
Cam's still coy about giving this a shot,
but Kate's motivated
to make it work with her ex.
[Kate] Getting back with an ex,
there's always that chance
that it's gonna be
a really bad idea
and that it's gonna be daunting,
and I guess it could be
a little bit awkward,
but we're taking things really slowly,
which is nice.
I think, um, it's just about
building that groundwork again.
[Cam] It's been three years
since we broke up.
And when she reached out to me,
I was actually confused.
Who knows
Honestly, who knows how this is gonna go?
[doorbell rings]
Oh! [laughs]
What is this?
[Kate] It's so typical Cam. He used to do
stuff like this all the time.
Put presents at my door and then just run.
He's brilliant.
Oh, yum!
Oh, my God, he's so cute.
I think the spark is definitely
is definitely still there.
I've been here all night.
[Peter] Peter fell in love
while on holiday 28 years ago
with American beauty Diane.
After flying halfway around the world,
Diane is happy to see
if the spark ignites.
I want to get to know him
on an adult level, on a friendship level,
and find out what he's all about now.
-Good morning.
-Good morning.
-Were you seriously still asleep?
-Yes.
[Diane] Peter comes in, and he embraces me
with his big, broad shoulders,
and I thought, "Oh, this feels so good."
That's my coffee.
[Diane] And I was happy that
he wasn't upset about the night before.
I mean, you're quite full of energy
early in the morning. [laughs]
-Well, I've had a good sleep.
-You have? Good.
I wanted to express to him that I care,
and that I'm still so excited to see him,
and I still have
all those feelings of passion towards him,
but that I want to take it slow.
[Peter] I get it
and I understood it, so
Right at this moment,
there's nothing more important in my life
than spending time with my ex right now.
Today, we got something pretty exciting
to do in Sydney.
-We're gonna be kayaking on the harbor.
-Wow.
[knock at door]
Meg, I brought you breakfast.
[narrator] Today, our couples
will be reminding themselves
why it's worth
giving love a second chance.
So I'm gonna take you out on a date today,
and we're going to a trampoline park,
and it's gonna be epic.
It's gonna be epic, is it?
[narrator] These first crucial days
are all about getting to know each other
all over again.
Enjoy. I can't believe you're here still.
-[Jeremy] Oh, I've got brain freeze!
-[both laughing]
[narrator] Erik took Lauren ice-skating
on their very first date,
and now he's brought her back here
in the hope that
the memories will trigger some romance.
I don't want to embarrass myself
and fall over again.
No, you'll be fine.
[Lauren] The first time
we went ice-skating together,
I was trying hard to impress Erik.
Can you help me?
I can help you.
-It's like the glass slipper.
-[Lauren laughs]
I think this time
it's his turn to impress me.
Let me show you my moves.
Please don't let me go.
-Like, seriously.
-Come on.
-[Lauren chuckles]
-Come on.
Walk. Walk, walk, walk, walk, walk.
[Lauren] I don't wanna fall.
[Erik] You'll be fine.
[Lauren] Okay.
Don't No, no, no, no
[Erik] I'm on a high.
I'm thinking about planting
a cheeky little kiss
somewhere along the way.
Maybe even come behind her
and, you know, cop a feel here and there.
-I'll come behind you.
-No, no, no, no, no, no!
-Stay there.
-Uh what?
-[Lauren laughs] Don't.
-Let's try it.
I think with the little cheeky moves
I'm throwing in there and stuff,
-she seems keen
-Erik!
but we'll see how we go.
You said you have all these new skills
to show me.
I do have a skill
I'd like to show you.
Probably not necessarily
with ice-skating.
-Okay.
-[laughs]
Erik!
Are you okay?
Seriously, I don't know
how I'm gonna pick you up.
-Are you okay?
-Yeah.
-Are you sure?
-I've taken one for the team now.
-Oh, the team, hey?
-The team.
Are we a team or not a team?
[Lauren chuckles]
That was the Kermy face.
It was. It was the Kermy face, was it?
Lauren calls me Kermy
as in Kermit the Frog,
because apparently I look like a Muppet
with my mouth open.
[Lauren laughs]
[Erik] I don't like it at all.
It's not a manly nickname,
but it's her nickname for me,
so it's our private little thing.
-Am I allowed to call you Tiger?
-If you'd like.
I call Lauren Tiger
because there is a feisty side to her
that pops out every once in a while.
-All right, Tiger. Tiger it is.
-[chuckles]
[horn honks]
[narrator] Despite a bitter breakup
four years ago,
Jeremy wants to remind Meg
how much fun they can have together.
[Jeremy] I want to try
and make this work with Meg.
I want to be able to do things
that I do with my friends with Meg.
-Oh, Meg, are you ready?
-Oh. [laughs]
Check it out.
I want Meg to be like a friend
as well as someone that I'm dating.
Come on, Meg.
[Meg laughs] You're a dick.
I'm stuck.
[Meg laughs]
-If I pull you, I'm gonna get stuck.
-[grunts]
-[straining]
-[Meg laughs] You're a dickhead.
He makes me smile, he makes me laugh.
No!
He's the one
that I always want to go back to.
He's the person
that I always want to call first.
But I feel like my moods can make him feel
a little bit unwanted.
[sighs]
So, how do you feel about last night?
I had fun with you.
We had such a good time.
And it just sort of
I understand you were--
-It came to a sudden stop?
-Yeah.
I'm sorry
if I hurt your feelings by doing that.
I didn't mean to do that.
I kind of, was thinking about me
and I was thinking about
the way that I felt, and
and I just wasn't
I wasn't in a good headspace.
It makes me feel like I'm not wanted
when you're just like,
"No, just leave. I'm not in the mood."
It's like you're not in the mood for me,
like I can't even cheer you up.
Yeah, so I need to relax a little bit
and not be so headstrong.
You don't need to relax.
I understand you're in a bad mood, but
I just want you to be happy all the time.
Do you get it?
Yeah, I do. I get it. I understand that.
-Do you want to give me a hug?
-Yeah, I do.
Don't wipe your sweat on me, but.
[both laughing]
[Jeremy] Are we making out
on a trampoline?
[Meg] We're not making out
on the trampoline.
I'm still feeling very shy towards you.
I don't know why.
-I know. Yeah?
-I know.
I know I can be a bit off-putting.
It's okay.
[both laughing]
"Shy" is a nice euphemism. Thank you.
[Diane] Some of it felt great.
The other part in me
felt a little nervous.
It probably still feels unreal that
you're sitting in the back of the car.
I know.
And that you're talking freely
and sharing everything that's going on.
It's lovely.
-[Peter] Yeah, it's good.
-[Diane] Yeah.
Just never expected this, ever.
It's beautiful.
[narrator] And Peter knows
exactly how to get Diane's heart racing.
Why did you bring me here?
What are we gonna do?
Is that a hint?
-I know. I feel like it's a hint.
-We're going kayaking. Yes.
[Diane exclaims]
[Peter] Diane clearly has a passion
for life.
I could see that when we first met.
So, this is our craft.
[Peter] But it just seems
to have gotten stronger.
-I'm so excited.
-Got it all set up for us, eh?
I can just see it in her eyes
and see it in her attitude to things.
And I'm very similar, in a way,
though I will say
it's been probably suppressed
to some extent in recent years.
Oh There we go.
-I'll follow you. [laughs]
-All right.
But it's just like
she's released the fun valve.
She's certainly opened the floodgates
to my passion pit,
if you wanna call it that. [laughing]
-Are you fine?
-Yes!
-Fearless?
-Fearless. Yes.
Good. Okay.
-Fearless with you.
-[chuckles]
[Diane] I think that knowing already
that we are passionately connected
takes away a lot of pressure
and uncertainties.
I love doing this with you.
And so now we're exploring
other parts of the relationship
to see if it can come into one big one.
[Diane squeals and laughs]
And it's exciting.
[Diane sighs] So romantic.
I couldn't ask for a better way
to spend the day.
[squeals and chuckles]
He is a romantic thing, my Peter.
I call him "my Peter."
I'm a little out of practice,
but I'm gaining it back rapidly.
So, what are you looking for?
-Well, I'm looking right at her right now.
-Ah.
That's quite sweet.
It's really fun to start to explore
the bantering and the teasing
-You have to go high.
-[both laugh]
and the feeding him grapes
and strawberries
-No one's done that for me for a while.
-[laughs]
and sort of being coy. [chuckles]
-It's fun sort of teasing you a bit.
-Mmm.
[both chuckle]
I can be a bit naughty.
It's really in my nature.
I know that.
[both laughing]
[Diane] I'm feeling really wonderful
about Peter right now.
I'm feeling
that he's being sincere and genuine,
and that he cares for me,
and that's exciting
to have someone express it.
It's a new place for me to be in.
I haven't been in that place in a while,
so it's lovely and I hope it progresses.
-[Peter] To us.
-[Diane] Yes, to us.
Oh, it melts me inside.
It's pretty special.
And we're just rediscovering this now.
[narrator] After a fun morning,
Meg and Jeremy
are getting into the swing of dating.
When we kissed,
it sort of made me feel really excited
and I was really happy,
and it makes you see,
like, the nice, bright side of Meg.
I really enjoyed kissing Meg.
We kissed and it was cute,
but I still inside have doubts.
He can definitely be
a jealous and insecure person at times.
Just before we walked into the restaurant,
I sort of found out that she'd seen
someone that I know.
[Meg] I'm not seeing anybody.
He's the only person that I have kissed.
-Oh.
-Yeah. See?
You ask for it and now I'm telling you,
and now you don't wanna hear it.
Hearing about her hook up
with other people
makes me feel like shit.
-So, you are, like, seeing each other?
-No.
-You've got a boyfriend?
-No.
You expect me
to try and fall in love with you--
[sighs] Am I really gonna hear this?
-I don't know, you're just telling me--
-You asked
You asked and I told you and
now you're getting shitty at me because
I'm not shitty. I'm not shitty.
-you're prying
-'Cause I'm what? I'm prying?
You're prying.
Oh, well, it's a bit hard to
make someone else's girlfriend like me.
You're making up stories in your own head.
You'll never be happy with me.
I'm an idiot
trying to make someone else's girlfriend
love me.
Not once did I say
that I was going out with him.
So it's completely up to you.
I know how I feel.
He says stupid things sometimes.
Things that he doesn't think
are gonna hurt people's feelings,
but they do.
If Jeremy wants to get back with me,
then respect and trust
needs to be there 110%.
A million percent.
-[Jeremy] Hey, guys.
-[Meg] Hi.
-How you doing? Jeremy.
-Very nice to meet you.
-Meg. Lovely to meet you.
-Very nice to meet you.
Welcome to the Lotus Galeries.
This way, please.
Thanks.
[Jeremy] Now I'm not in the mood
for dumplings.
And she's pissed me off
a little bit and it's it's
I do love dumplings, but [laughs]
[waiter] Ready?
-These are our dumplings.
-Look at that beautiful dumpling.
[Meg and Jeremy laugh]
[Jeremy] She thinks that I care more
that she was with someone else,
and it's not so much that.
It's more the fact I'm pissed off
with how she can just jump
from one person to another person.
And I don't want her
to just change her mind
and jump from me to someone else.
Mmm. It's actually really good.
That sauce is hot.
It's good, but.
You order even things
that I don't think I would want to try.
[chuckles] And I actually give it a go
and it's not too bad.
What about your other boyfriends?
What are they like?
[chuckles] Thanks, Jeremy.
Do they like going out
to eat food like this with you?
I don't think you want me to answer that.
Why not?
'Cause you got upset before
and you'll get upset now.
No, I won't.
I've been really, really mean
to Meg before,
and I've been an asshole.
She's giving me a shot
but she hasn't forgotten the things
that I said or did.
That's what I'm here for.
I want you to tell me what I'm like.
You're an asshole.
And I don't want to
And I don't want to be like that.
Yeah, and I want to try and change
and make it so that it works.
I hate it.
What about if I try not to be an asshole?
Then, good. Try.
-I'm trying. I'm trying to be different.
-All right.
-Oh
-[woman] How are you?
-Hi. How are you?
-Good. How are you?
[narrator] Kate reckons
Cam's the one that got away.
[Kate] These are gonna look
really stylish.
[narrator] It's now been three years
since their split,
and she's hoping
he'll give it one more go.
After reuniting yesterday,
today Kate plans to woo Cam
with some good old-fashioned flirting.
[Kate] Oh, my God.
I want to get back with my ex
because he was my first true love,
as cliché as that sounds.
That was so close. Yeah, that was
-Ugh!
-That was still pretty good.
[Kate] What makes me nervous
about giving this relationship another go
would be the worry
that maybe we are just friends.
Maybe we can't get that spark back,
as much as I desperately would want it.
Maybe it's just not there anymore.
Team Kate. Whoo-hoo!
[chuckles]
-Come on, baby.
-Where's my cheer squad?
Oh
I don't know how I'll top that.
I don't know how I'm gonna beat that.
Bloody hell, you're great.
-Shut up.
-[Cam laughs]
Flirting, it's like probing somebody.
You get to see what level they are at
and where they are
and how cheeky they can be.
You find out a lot more about them
from just a few cheeky comments.
Like the dad bod?
And if they react with
the same sort of thing, it's awesome.
-Oh, yeah, work it.
-[laughing]
I nearly tripped.
[Kate] Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Oh!
-Close, yet so far.
-I nearly axed myself.
-Yeah, you nearly fell over
-Yeah, I know.
That would've been hilarious.
Cam still doesn't have
any smooth moves at all, but
it's what I love about him, really.
All right, if I get a strike,
you owe me a kiss.
Considering you haven't got
any strikes yet,
we'll see how that goes.
Have faith.
It's sort of endearing
that he is still such a dweeb.
-[both laughing]
-Did you actually just get a strike?
-That was really good.
-Come on, pay up.
Just the one.
Thank you. That's a fair deal.
The kiss was fantastic. It was perfect.
Here you go, my lady.
-After you.
-Oh, thank you, kind sir.
[Cam] When I saw that Pontiac,
I knew I had to take up the opportunity
of making a move on her in there.
This just reminds me of, like
remember the first time?
I kissed you first.
No, I kissed you the first time.
Uh no.
-You were way too much of a pansy.
-No.
-"Pansy"?
-Yes.
I don't think I can let you
make the first move anymore.
-Oh, really? Have you grown some balls?
-[both laugh]
I think I have.
Wow. I'm so sassy.
-You are sassy.
-No, I'm not.
So, would you mind
if I, um, laid one on you?
-I'm sorry, is that how you're gonna
-Yeah.
[chuckles] Is that how you're actually
Is that your move?
-That's me making the first move.
-Is that your move?
That's pathetic. [chuckles]
-Thank you.
-No, thank you.
If he showed up with all the moves,
all the right things to say
I don't know if I'd be interested.
That's It's just not Cam.
It's not who I know
and who I fell in love with.
So I'm almost glad
he's still just as dorky as ever.
[narrator] Erik loves to joke around
and he's got a few tricks up his sleeve
to win Lauren over.
What do you think we're gonna be up to?
-I have no idea.
-Why is that?
[Lauren] I'm not sure
what Erik's organized here
but I'm getting a bit scared.
I'm nervous because
I don't like being surprised and
I'm just feeling a bit embarrassed already
and I don't even know what it is.
So, what are we doing?
[Erik] You're gonna find out
very, very shortly.
Hello.
Hello. Welcome to
our life drawing session.
This life drawing is about
having a bit of fun,
getting a bit sexual,
getting a bit cheeky.
Is there gonna be a naked person?
Possibly. There's a stage up there.
-What do you reckon?
-[laughs]
Go on. Get your gear off.
I'm not taking my clothes off.
-Why not?
-Because
You've done it for me once before.
When?
-When we went on the photo shoot.
-I wasn't naked.
You don't want to do it now?
-I don't want to.
-Really?
-You can.
-Okay.
I have worked hard on my body
over the last five years,
so showing it off to Lauren
will be a great surprise.
I want to see her reaction,
see what she thinks.
Genuine thoughts and feelings
would be great.
[Lauren] I can't watch this.
[Erik] She hasn't seen this body
in five years.
She's been missing out.
I feel like a little schoolgirl.
[both chuckle]
[Erik] Why are you embarrassed?
[Lauren] I don't know.
I think I'm embarrassed for you.
You shouldn't be.
[chuckling] Okay. I can't even look.
Oh, gosh.
You don't want me to get my gear off?
[Lauren] But stay facing that wall.
-Well, like this?
-Yeah.
-And then like this?
-Yep.
[Erik] Okay. How's this?
[Lauren] I can't even look.
[Erik] How's this?
[Lauren] This is the old Erik,
you know, making me laugh and
How you going over there?
[Lauren] making me embarrassed and
I'm trying my best.
Your cheeks are getting red.
He's got a lot of confidence,
that's all I can say.
[Erik] Giggling like a little schoolgirl.
[chuckles] Well, this is really awkward.
[Erik] Really? Why is it awkward?
It's been a long time
since I've seen you naked.
Can you see anything
you don't want to see?
I'm You're fine.
I'm fine?
-Why aren't you looking at me?
-Just let me concentrate.
Do I look as good as you remember?
-You look better.
-I look better?
-Honestly, you do.
-Really?
Does my butt look big?
Your butt looks great.
-Which is your favorite muscle?
-The arm muscle.
The arm muscle?
Are you talking about this one?
Yes.
-Do you want me to turn more to the side?
-Just stay how you are.
Is there anything you can't see?
Are you using your imagination?
I'm not talking to you.
-Why not?
-I'm concentrating.
[Erik] Do I get to keep this?
I don't know what I'm doing here.
This Your hands look like bananas.
[Erik] Erik the banana man.
I'm sorry, I'm doing my best I can.
I'm not much of a drawer.
I can't draw feet.
[Erik] You can't draw feet?
[Lauren] Your legs are really short
in my drawing.
[Erik laughs]
So I'm a dwarf with banana arms?
[Lauren] With big monkey feet.
[Erik] And big monkey feet. Great.
You're doing some long strokes over there.
[chuckles] Yeah, they're your legs.
-Something.
-Stop being naughty.
I'm not being naughty.
You seem to be in a happy state right now.
Stop it.
Okay. I think I'm done.
-Really?
-Yep.
Can I see?
Why don't you come and have a look?
Sure. Why not?
What the
-Do you like it?
-I love it.
-Can I hang it on my fridge?
-Yep.
[Erik] I am happy
how this turned out as a date.
I was worried, just trying to gauge
how it was gonna all go down
but I just let the day unfold
and it went down perfectly.
-I don't know where to look.
-Why not?
I don't know.
I'm getting really embarrassed.
You shouldn't be embarrassed at all.
I've bared all for Lauren now
and I think
everything's on the table, literally.
Uh, so, yeah, I don't think
there should be any more awkwardness.
-Thank you so much.
-Okay.
Do you want me to go put
my clothes back on?
Yes, please.
All right. I will.
[narrator] Our couples
have been asked to bring
an important item
from their past relationship
-[Jeremy] What's in the box?
-[Meg chuckles]
and we've put those pieces
in a memory box.
-[Peter] Memory box?
-[Diane] Memory box.
But it's not gonna be big enough
to hold all the memories we have.
What do you reckon?
I don't know.
[narrator] Ready for our exes
to work through
the good and the bad from their past.
"Open this box to unlock your past."
-[Kate] Ooh.
-[Cam] Oh, man.
All right. I'm quite nervous,
to be honest.
-What is that?
-[Kate laughs]
[Cam] Oh, my God. Are you serious?
It's what you got me that day
and you left it at my door.
Are you serious?
I haven't seen him in years.
You still have that?
Yeah. I thought it was
the most random thing, so I kept it.
Weird but kind of cool, just like you.
Oh, my God. [chuckles]
I really like to hold onto things
that remind me of good times.
Um, anything that holds
a happy memory for me, I always keep it.
"Dear Kate, I know it's corny and lame,
but I just thought to get you this gift
as a way to remind you that I love you
and when you look at it,
I just hope you think that
I am your knight in shining armor."
What I like best is that on the side
in big writing, you write, "Love me."
Knowing that you probably think
it's corny as hell.
Yeah. Yeah.
Oh, my God.
How long ago was that?
I can't believe it.
I'm actually quite shocked
that you kept something like that.
I did not think she would keep that.
That was the first thing I thought
she would ever get rid of.
And she still has it.
And that says so much.
No, I've actually never thrown out
anything that you've got me, ever.
So, just think back to every gift
-Oh, my God.
-you got me over the years.
I haven't thrown any of it out.
-Is this, like
-I kept that actually intact.
-Is this your first phone?
-Yes.
What the hell?
How do you still have this?
-I have not seen this
-Oh!
for such a long time.
[Kate] What is that?
-Did you put a piece of gum on my head?
-Yeah, it's
I look like I've just woken up.
Like, "What have you done to me
this time, Cam?"
-[Cam] Your face says it all.
-[Kate laughs]
[Cam] I reckon it's fantastic that I've
actually kept those photos of you and I.
-Yeah.
-Look how young we look.
Look how sweet we are. Oh!
And we're matching, too.
I'm wearing maroon pants,
you've got a maroon top.
Aw!
It was really nice to be able to
look through all those memories with Cam.
Oh, stop.
Your background is a picture of us.
I think that's the only background
I ever had.
They were all happy memories
and when I think back,
we really didn't have any memories
that weren't happy, to be honest, so
Yeah.
Look at all the messages.
There are so many.
What?
When Kate cheated,
she wasn't up-front about it.
I found out via text message.
There's absolutely no good way
to tell someone that you've
betrayed their trust and cheated on them.
Cheating on Cam is the biggest regret
I've had in my entire life.
How do you move on from that?
[narrator] Meg and Jeremy
broke up four years ago
when he left to go exploring overseas
without her and it left Meg heartbroken.
[Meg] I don't know what this is.
[Jeremy] These are photos
from when I was in Europe.
Running with the bulls.
Zagreb, Croatia with the boys.
Look how young everybody is. Look at you.
Those were really good times,
so, looking back on it,
they were really good memories.
Were you upset or were you, like,
sort of excited for me
to go, like, travel?
[voice breaking] I can't remember.
Oh, don't.
I did hurt. I hurt heaps.
I hurt a lot when he was gone.
And I don't want to think about that.
I don't want to think
about those sort of things.
What's wrong?
[Meg] I was jealous.
I'm sure I was jealous of the things
that he was off doing.
And I think I was worried
he would go over there and he would
forget about me and then
Oh, don't. I don't wanna talk about this.
I'm not talking about this anymore.
It was definitely hard at first.
It was hard at first.
And then it got easier and then, like,
I'm sure we slowly stopped talking,
which made it easier.
I don't know.
I don't want to re-venture that.
-I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I left you.
-You don't have to be sorry.
I should've taken you with me.
No, I probably wouldn't have wanted to go.
We wouldn't have had fun.
We wouldn't have had fun together,
not at the stage that we were at.
We needed that break.
I didn't think it would last this long,
that we'd be apart.
Yeah, I do think that she's forgiven me
for packing up and leaving.
We were always arguing
and it was a pretty shit time with Meg,
so I don't know, it definitely
It needed to happen.
-Ready? One, two, three.
-Yeah.
[Diane] One, two, three.
[Peter] Oh, wow.
I know exactly where that is.
Niagara Falls. What do you think
of my blond bouffant and mullet?
[Diane] I loved your hair.
You liked it back then, did you?
-I liked your high-waisted jeans, too.
-Oh, yes.
Do you want to look at the pictures?
Looking at those pictures
of Niagara Falls,
I don't remember much of Niagara Falls
as much as, like, being in bed with him.
We traveled, we did things, but we also
spent a lot of time horizontal.
And vertical and upside down.
-[Peter] The keys are in the car.
-[both laughing]
Did we drive this to Florida, to Sarasota,
to see my parents?
-I believe we did, yes.
-We did.
It was like, then, life couldn't be
more perfect for me.
Many years later,
it was some time before I got married,
probably pretty close to it, actually.
Before I made the plunge, you know,
I called your parents' home and I thought,
"I've just got to reach out and see
where Diane is these days."
And your dad answered the phone
and he said, "Well, she's married now
and she's living in Miami
and she's got a young child."
And I said, "Well,
I'm really pleased for her."
I said, "Just wish her the best for me."
My memory of the phone call was that
my dad called me
and said that you had called.
-And my heart went [gasps]
-Oh, I didn't know that.
And I said, "Did you get a number?"
And he goes, "No."
He goes, "You didn't need to talk to him.
You're married."
-I went, "Oh"
-It's good that he let you know.
Yeah. Yeah.
I'm glad you're here now.
[Peter] I was really surprised
that she was really disappointed
she couldn't get back in touch
with me at the time.
It's hard to say
what would've happened but, uh
[Diane gasps]
-Oh, it's the 45.
-I know, it's a 45.
Let me play it for you.
That was a song
that always reminded me of Peter.
-[evocative music playing]
-You wanna dance with me?
-[laughing] Yeah, okay.
-Yeah?
Oh, wow.
Hearing this song
and I'd just start to think about you
and I'd go, "Oh, my gosh."
But through the years,
ah, it would just touch my heart.
I would think of him and kind of swell up
with emotions and think,
"We were so good together," and I wonder
why we just didn't jump into it.
Nothing compares. Nothing compares.
Do you think we're a bit too close
to that bed or what?
I'm gonna push you down and [exclaims]
A little present.
[narrator] Lauren and Erik
split up six years ago
and after a fun day together,
they're both looking forward
to unearthing some of their
magical moments from the past.
Let's do it.
[Lauren] The memories are definitely
flooding back and mostly good memories,
which right at this moment
I'm happy I'm feeling, you know,
that excitement again
of how I used to feel when I was with him.
-What do you reckon?
-I don't know.
[Erik] Uh-oh.
Oh, my God.
-[Erik chuckles]
-A letter I wrote to you.
See how much I loved you?
"I would really like it if you could
kiss my lips and forehead
before you go to sleep and hold me tight,
but if you don't want to,
then that's okay.
I'll still love you just the same."
If I was me, as a girlfriend,
I would love me.
[Erik chuckles]
Look how much I used to do for you.
I filled your water bottles
Done my washing, cleaning.
You were a full wifey.
It's nice to hear Erik telling me
that he missed little things about me,
the little notes I used to leave.
Why did you keep that?
That was one of the longest ones
you actually wrote.
[Lauren] It's also making me
a little bit angry
because I really want to know
why he didn't appreciate that before
and what's made him now realize
that these were good things.
I'm sorry I didn't jump up with joy
and say, "Oh, wow, you're fantastic,"
and everything like that.
You took it upon yourself to say,
"I want to do, you know,
the wifey type stuff."
I did. I really did appreciate it.
It was amazing that someone wanted to
actually do stupid little nothings for me.
And I felt like
I never really showed that to you.
-And it upset you.
-Yeah.
I look back and I think,
"Wow, I was so in love with you
that you couldn't do wrong."
And I just accepted
so much bad treatment from you.
Um and that's not me today.
Like, I look back and I think,
"Who is this girl?"
-Yeah.
-Yeah, I may not be the girl that you
-Once knew?
-Yeah, exactly.
-Oh, God.
-Uh-oh.
Breast enlargements.
This was in the birthday card you gave me.
What?
-No. No. No.
-Yeah.
One birthday, Erik gave me a birthday card
with $10,000 inside
And I gave you two options
[Lauren] with options to
either pay off my tuition
And the other option was?
or to get breast augmentation.
Yeah, it was inclining to swing that way,
but I was never a force.
That's a big part of what really
used to make me upset,
is that I used to feel,
"Why can't you just love me for me?"
Wasn't I already good enough or
-Of course you were.
-Okay.
So why did you want me
to get breast implants?
I thought it may have been something
that you were considering.
I was only gonna support it.
I never forced it upon you at all.
I didn't say, "You have to do this."
But you wanted it. You wanted me to.
I'm a guy. Of course.
I mean, I like them. Of course.
I don't think any guy out there would say,
"Oh, no, my girlfriend's getting
breast implants."
I have met other guys
that have said they don't care.
Erik, you changed every part of me.
You were going to break up with me
if I didn't cut my hair.
-That's not true.
-Yes, it is true.
And my nails, I could not have
just had my nails like this.
-Your always made me have
-What--
-What? You're saying
-Why are you not being honest?
So you're saying I was controlling
You controlled every way I looked.
-I was happy with your appearance
-You weren't.
-Well, why did you make me cut my hair?
-What? I didn't.
-You were free to
-Erik, you booked the salon.
You were free to actually go
and do whatever you wanted to do.
But you told me you would break up with me
if I didn't cut my hair.
No, I didn't. No, I didn't.
I never said that at all.
-Can you be honest?
-I'm being honest.
Erik, why are you lying?
I'm not How am I lying?
Erik, let's start from the beginning.
Did you book the salon to get my hair cut?
No. We--
-Did you find that salon at Newtown?
-No.
So, who found the salon? I didn't.
I would never have gone
to a salon like that.
-Can you answer the question?
-Yes.
-Did you find that salon?
-Yeah, I did.
Okay. So, why?
It was a random selection.
It wasn't a specific, like
-Erik, just be honest.
-I'm being honest.
-What was it about them that you chose?
-Nothing.
Because they did kooky hairstyles
and you wanted my hair like that?
-No.
-You did.
And then you suggested,
"Why don't you shave underneath?"
-That's not me, but I gradually
-I know it's not you.
gradually grew to like it
because I saw how happy it made you.
And then, as soon as it would grow
a little bit longer, you'd say,
"Oh, you need to cut
You need to shave your hair again.
Like, it's getting long."
You did.
All right. Okay, well
-Stop lying!
-I'm not lying.
I can't do I'm sorry.
[Erik] That's bullshit.
Two seconds.
No. Two seconds what?
You're lying about everything.
Fine. If you think that
You're trying to make everyone think
that you're innocent. You're not.
You said, "What's the rule, Tiger?"
before I went into the salon.
And I go, "Oh, you want the pink bit
shorter than the
The white bit has to be longer."
