High Society (2010) s01e02 Episode Script

Prince Un-Charming

This is the first time that I've ever been single.
I've started dating somebody new.
His name is Casimir.
He's a German friend.
I'm datingyou know.
What's wrong with that.
Don't be photographed with him.
Where is she? I'll kick her [bleep.]
ass.
Paul: I took my Jameson on the rocks and I just chucked it.
[Alex screams.]
Paul is going to be in jail or a suicide.
Tinsley: I don't know where I am right now.
I'm kind of lost.
She's making a terrible mistake in her life.
[sobbing.]
All the right friends in all the wrong places Paul: It is a rat race in the New York social world.
I'm standing up for my friend! It's about society, power, fame, influence Oh, yeah, we're going down everybody wants to be on top.
You're a mean girl.
If you don't have a tough skin, you are not going to make it.
All the right friends in all the wrong places So, yeah, we're going down Tinsley: I'm about to take you into a world where not everything is as perfect as it seems.
Hey Yeah, we're going down High Society 1x02 Prince Un-Charming You learn a lot about yourself when you're unpacking your life and starting over.
Little things, like a bowl or a picture frame get really meaningful.
But mostly, it's the people in your life, the people around you, that make starting over such a juggling act.
Unpacking in Prada heels is probably not the best thing, but I am never in flat shoes.
If I ever happen to be barefoot walking around, I will actually start kind of walking up on my tippy-toes, because I cannot be flat.
I cannot.
I hate it, I hate it, I hate it.
Flat-footed is just, like, ugh! Tinsley: This one's weird.
I need to finish doing my nails.
Do you mind if I just quickly finish? I was in the middle of unpacking, when I look over and Dabney is painting her nails hot pink.
Dabney, you're not going to be able to do unwrapping and the unwrapping if you're doing your nails right now.
I have a quick-dry top coat.
Dabney, I know, but-- I get really annoyed when my nails are starting to chip and everything.
Hello, Dabney! We're working here.
Paul: I came here today to sit down with Jules and maybe come to some sort of cease-fire.
We're close friends with the same people, and we're going to be in the same room at the same time.
She needs to chill out.
- Hi, Paul.
- Hi, Jules.
- How are you? - I'm good.
I'm glad you came.
That was big of you.
So what do you have to say? I just want to say I know things got out of hand the other night at the bar.
[bleep.]
Why don't you burn down another country house? Oh, wait, you don't have one.
I'm not apologizing for that.
I feel badly for Alex.
To be honest, I don't really feel badly for doing it to you.
We used to be really close friends, and now I'm throwing drinks at you and you're in the corner talking to people about me? But that's your thing, is that you're delusional.
You think that I actually care and I'm talking [bleep.]
about you, and I'm not.
I'm not talking about you badly at all.
All right, well, then don't call me delusional.
But you are by the fact that you think that you're some superstar and I'm talking about you all the time.
Jules, don't try to condescend to me.
I don't steal, like, people's phones.
I don't want your CrackBerry.
I have an iPhone.
I don't need your ghetto BlackBerry.
I'm not going to continue talking to you.
- Nice-- - [bleep.]
you, too.
Paul: Bye, Jules.
Nice bag and great hair.
[snorts.]
It was typical Jules style.
She doesn't listen to a thing you say.
She just barks things at you, and she gets up and she leaves.
How does that solve anything? No wonder her life is a mess.
Dabney: Today we're headed out to Frette to pick up our monogrammed sheets and robes.
Since we just moved in together, we wanted to have customized sheets for our apartment.
Oh, cool.
Looks great.
Jules: I think every girl that I know, at least, has sheets from Frette with monograms on it, but Dabney chose the monograms.
I don't like them.
Can you make sure my monogram's directly in the center of the bed? Dabney: The way Jules is treating people in the hotel, from the very beginning it was very obvious she was crossing the line.
Jules: Could you not do this right in front of me, like, while I'm doing my shoelaces? Like, go out there and do it or something? It's ridiculous.
She's treated them sort of like they're her servants, and she definitely brought out this diva princess attitude.
Just make sure you straighten out this whole room, too.
Like, clean, dust everything, not just the crappy job you usually do.
And then this, like, is clearly upside down.
- Oh.
- Right? Maybe you should get someone else if you can't do it by yourself.
This would be my choice.
Tinsley: It felt like an out of body experience.
Casimir: Stop it.
This is too close.
I'm not going to do this anymore.
Oh, my God, sorry I'm late.
Thank you for coming.
Alex and I decided to plan kind of a "Welcome back to the single life" party for Tinsley.
We invited a bunch of her friends.
- Hey, how are you? - Hi, darling.
We just basically wanted to kind of lift her spirits a bit.
Dabney and I want to thank you all for coming today.
- So sweet.
- Cheers.
So another purpose of today was to introduce you to a few more boys maybe that you might be interested in dating.
- Okay.
- So we've all brought a picture - What? - of an eligible bachelor.
What is going on? I would like to introduce you to Brian.
- What? - Alex! So Brian started his own company, and he runs a lot of hot, fun places in the city and the Hamptons.
Oh, my God.
Alex: I think it's important for Tinsley to go out on dates.
I don't think she's ever been in the dating game, because she met her husband when she was young.
They've been married up until now.
Okay, Tins, so this is Carter Thompson.
Whoo! And his name is Mike Riley.
Whoo! This is the perfect Southern gentleman.
- Okay.
- Okay.
- I have one.
- Oh! - Okay, Mom.
- Oh, gosh.
Well, Tinsley, if I were picking the perfect person for you, I would want him to be accomplished, successful, be from a nice family, and if this were a fairy tale world, this would be my choice.
Dabney: My mom stands up and puts up a picture of Tinsley and Topper hugging from their wedding.
It was extremely uncomfortable.
I looked at Tinz and I could tell she was really hurt by it.
Okay, that's really weird.
Where's the laughter, the clapping? Dale: It didn't go over well, but I knew it wouldn't.
But I had to do it.
I had to do it, because I just wanted to remind her of what she had-- the fairy tale that she was living.
That's so awkward.
We're supposed to make Tinsley-- Darling, I'm sorry, I have to be honest.
There's nothing wrong-- We all love Topper and we all feel very badly about what's happened, but that's really rude.
This is about making Tinsley feel happy in the place where she is-- That's the picture that they used in "New York Magazine," too, Mom.
Mom-- Come on, Mom.
That's just not cool.
I'm sorry.
Okay, I'm sorry.
Sorry.
Tinsley: Tonight we're going to a cancer benefit for the City of Hope.
[no audible dialogue.]
Hi, guys.
Thank you.
Paul: I just think it's a worthy cause, because my mother's been in remission for, like, 10 or 11 years now from breast cancer.
Hi, baby.
How are you? You know, I saw Tinsley Bye, you.
and I saw Jules, and I was just kind of like, "How ironic that you're at a cancer benefit, seeing as you're the girl that pretended to have cancer.
" [bleep.]
Weird.
It was also a good chance for me to see Alex and apologize for throwing a drink in her face.
It was totally unintentional.
I know it was inexcusable behavior in the first place.
Alex: We don't do this.
We're not 1980s "Dynasty" where people are throwing drinks at each other, and slapping each other in the face.
I am so sorry that you got in the way.
I just can't even believe we're still at this stage where we're throwing drinks at each other and stuff.
Often I feel misunderstood by a lot of people, because a lot of people just see me going out all the time, and that's not who I am at all.
Let's not have it happen again.
It will never happen again, my dear.
Paul may have apologized, but a gentleman would have offered to pay for the dry cleaning.
We kissed! This is it.
Enough.
I'm not going to make anything anymore.
Done.
My dear friend AlexE set me up on a little date tonight.
So Brian started his own company, and he runs a lot of hot, fun places in the city and the Hamptons.
Oh, my God.
She really thinks it's really good for me to go on a few dates and see what else is out there.
[dog barking.]
- Hey.
How are you? - Hey, what's up.
- Hi.
- How are you? Brian, Tinsley.
Tinsley, Brian.
- Nice to meet you.
- Nice to meet you.
She's really pretty-- beautiful blonde hair, beautiful features, dresses to the nines, and great.
- Have fun.
- I'll have her home by 11.
Have a great time.
It's my favorite restaurant.
I heard.
He took me to Philippe, and it was just weird because I've been there so many times with my husband from before.
I was, like, "Oh, my God, what are they going to think?" I mean, I know everybody en I walk in the door.
I was just really embarrassed, because Tinsley on a date is just weird.
I love it down here, too.
This is, like, my favorite spot down here.
He made it really special, because I love to have dinner down in the private room.
It's the wine cellar.
He actually got it set up-- it was just the two of us down there.
So it was really super cute and fun.
We're doing BlackBerries or no? Let's keep it New York.
Nice.
Oh, may we have the lettuce wraps and the chicken satay? - Thank you.
- Thank you.
It's my favorite.
I've never really dated before.
This is kind of weird for me.
- It's all-- - I'm not used to it.
In New York, it's really hard to date, also.
I know, it's actually terrifying.
Yeah.
He's definitely really cute.
I definitely get along very well with him, and we have fun and we can talk about anything, which is good, you know? It's fun, but I feel like I'm in high school.
I have a surprise for you.
- Uh-oh.
- If you're up for it.
- Yeah, it will be fun.
- Okay, great.
Brian: We finished dinner, had another drink, and we're going to take off and go ice skating.
Oh, my God.
My shoes are soaking wet.
I guess you can't go ice skating.
It's raining.
- Sorry, babe.
- It's raining.
It's raining.
It's terrible.
See, we can ice skate in the rain.
Tinsley: It would have been fun.
I used to love to ice skate.
Brian: This is my surprise.
Look at him.
Wow, you're good, buddy.
- Ooh! - Wait, I wanted to go ice skating, though.
The rain blew it.
So now you just have to kiss me.
[giggles.]
Tinsley: I was, like, "This is not me.
It's not Tinsley.
I feel strange.
" It felt, really, like an out of body experience.
We kissed! Shocked me.
I didn't think that he would take that step.
It's not a level.
I mean, don't give it-- Don't label it like that.
When the date was over I just felt that I'm just not ready to date other people, and it also made me really miss Casimir.
It just makes me really miss him, though.
I mean, I do.
It makes me feel like I don't want to do this.
Why am I forcing myself to date somebody when I just want to be with him? It's good for her that she went out on a date, but she needs to do what's right for her, what's in her heart, and that's going to be the right decision for her.
Bye.
Jules: Every now and again I like to go downtown and hang out with poor guys.
For a couple uptown girls, it is sort of slumming it going downtown.
We like to toy with guys.
Like if a girl walks into a bar in heels there, it's, like, unheard of.
My friend Cleo is from New York as well, from the upper east side, so I've known her my whole life.
Cleo's French and Japanese-- gorgeous.
She's really good for me.
She gives me that downtown edge, kind of, otherwise I'd be uptown all the time.
It's fun to go hang out with blue collar people at a scummy bar.
They do things like fratty things like play beer pong.
Damn it.
- Oh! - All right.
Make out with Joe.
Come on, do it.
Oh, my gosh.
The best thing about going to a downtown bar like that is that it really doesn't matter at the end of the day.
We can just leave after screwing with them.
Oh, my-- They're fully making out.
Okay.
That doesn't even count as a dare to him, because it's all he wanted all night.
All right, let me see your butt.
[Joe laughs.]
- [bleep.]
- Don't fall there.
- The thing is that-- - Nice.
I think it's really fun going down there.
We can do things down there that we can't really do when we're more in the public eye or uptown.
Sir, do you have a cigarette? - Don't ask him.
- Why? Because people don't have jobs and stuff down here.
Oh, my goodness.
Tinsley's colliding with this background.
This is it.
Enough.
I'm not going to make anything anymore.
Done.
Tinsley : This is Paris Fashion Week.
Y? "Fashion" and "Paris", those two words just go together.
I'm known in New York, and I want to be known in Paris.
Tinsley Mortimer.
Who is Tinsley? What brings her to Paris today? It's important for me to build my brand-- for the editors, for the designers, for people to see me in Paris, to see me at the shows, to see me at the parties, to really help to build my brand internationally.
I'm going to see the Ungaro show, and I'm wearing Ungaro.
Let's go this way.
Tinsley Mortimer.
Nice to meet you.
At the Karl Lagerfeld show, I sat next to Katy Perry and Rihanna.
I'm a girlie girl and I love Katy Perry songs, I love Rihanna songs, so it was really cool for me to get to see them.
Let's get, like, a second with him.
- One second.
- Hopefully.
Thank you so much.
The show was amazing.
- Thank you.
- You make me want to wear black.
I don't usually wear black.
But in you, I love-- For me to be in Paris by myself, it just was a bit lonely.
It's one of those cities where of course you want to be with somebody.
My boyfriend Casi is in finance, and he lives in London, so I asked him to fly over to Paris to meet me.
Hi! I'm so happy you're here! I walked out of the hotel and was so happy to see my prince Casimir.
Dale: My daughter Tinsley is dating a German prince.
It is tragic.
It is tragic.
I know that the German people are lovely people, but let's face it, their history? It's not good.
Hi, there.
I was looking for information on a German family.
I knew that there would be a lot written about his family, so I just thought maybe I should do a little reading and research it a little bit.
- I'm happy you're here.
- Me, too.
Tinsley: Casimir and I, we're a really great couple.
He's somebody that I just adore and I love.
It was a very easy trip.
I was sad in Paris without you.
What is that-- - Sorry, because-- - What? Casimir: Guys, this is not working.
Let's do this whole thing again, because I'm not happy with it.
I told you, Tinsley, that we're going to do this my way.
I'm doing a really good favor here, and what you're doing is you're throwing things at me that we didn't discuss.
- See, don't-- - No, finished.
Finished.
Done.
Dale: My greatest concern is how controlling Casi is.
I don't like these walking towards the camera shots at all.
He keeps Tinsley separated from me, from Topper, from all of her family.
He isolates her from the world.
She said something weird.
That's why I was thrown off, We didn't discuss something like, "I was sad in Paris," or something like this? Because you weren't here.
Why is that weird? Because it wasn't discussed.
Well, you know what? Reality isn't discussed.
What do you expect? Tinsley She's letting herself be controlled by someone who's reading her e-mails? Dictating to her what she should do? My, God, Tinsley.
My can I not be sad that my boyfriend isn't in Paris with me? Because we hadn't discussed it.
You didn't clear that with me.
I don't like it.
I just think if she's considering marrying Casimir-- and I certainly hope she's not-- someone needs to know the facts, and that would be the mommy.
It's what I was afraid of.
Oh, my goodness.
Oh, my goodness.
I found this book, and I thought, "Uh-oh.
" Goodness gracious, what a history.
Tinsley's wonderful heritage, colliding with this background, and it's frightening to me.
It's almost apocalyptic.
I'm checking the book out.
Okay, guys, get the car.
See you later.
You had enough now.
He's been filming for hours.
It's [bleep.]
done.
I don't like this-- Too much walking towards the camera so much.
I'd rather have the side angles.
Topper's family is just such stellar, stellar Americans, and, honestly, Topper is an American prince.
Stop it.
This is too close.
I want to look at everything that was filmed today.
- Stop, stop, stop, baby.
- Anything from the head up-- I'm not going to do this anymore.
10 seconds-- the thing is over.
So do the shot now and do it right.
I'm getting pissed off.
Done.
How could you possibly make a trade for something like this? This is it.
Enough.
I'm not going to make anything anymore.
Done.
You can film that if you want to.
I don't give a [bleep.]
.
I've got to save Tinsley.
No, you be quiet.
Stop, stop.
Honey, you've got to stop it.
You want the shot walking in or not? Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop, stop.
Do you guys want it? You can't be all mean and forceful-- You guys don't want it.
Okay.
- You had your chance.
- [bleep.]
.
Tinsley : The whole thing was a big disaster.
I need the dirt on Tinsley.
She turned her back on me.
I don't let people use me.
I think he's, like, super hot.
[squeals.]
You said you were by yourself.
Dale: I saw Casimir.
My heart just stopped.
Please, go.
No, I'm serious.
Please, go.
I'm not going to have somebody come in to her life and ruin it for her.
Casimir!
