who is one of the world's

-Well, I'm planning a match here.
I would like to bring
Barcelona Legends against Real Madrid.
So I've been trying to plan that match.
Ten years ago, I was down to my last $200.
I was buying clothes
out of a donation center,
and I saw this huge lot of soccer cards.
Like, I saw soccer was growing in America,
and I used those $200 to buy cards,
and today I have
probably the largest soccer cards
and memorabilia business in the world.
So I brought
a lot of stuff I wanna show you.
So here we have Ronaldinho. You know him?

-Of course, yeah.
Yeah, this is from
the Champions League Final 2006.
[Ken] Wow.
Alexia Putellas, the best
female soccer player in the world.
-[Ken] Wow! Mm-hmm.

I think he'll be one of the top players
in the world in the next year.
You'd know. For you, this stuff
is like me with American sports.

Soccer is the most popular sport
in the world by far,
but most soccer fans are international.
That is changing.
The soccer market is about to explode.
I think soccer will really boom
and might be number one down the road.
So here I have something really,
really special.
Leo Messi is the best
soccer player in history.
2017 span style="style2"El Clásico.
Probably the most famous
soccer jersey in history.
Wow.
[Alex] span style="style2"In 2007, Argentinian soccer star
span style="style2"Lionel Messi
burst onto the international stage
with the FC Barcelona club.
Messi is regarded as one of
the greatest players of all time.
One of his most memorable goals
occurred during a 2017 game
called span style="style1"El Clásico,
the name given to the matches
between Barcelona
and their fiercest rival Real Madrid.
Messi scored the winning goal
in the last 30 seconds,
and proceeded to pull off his jersey
and hold it up to the Madrid crowd,
making this soccer jersey
one of the most infamous of all time.
That's the type of iconic piece
I'd love to get on auction.
It took me like five years to get it.
So I wanted to show it to you.
I don't know if I'm ready to auction it.

I'm gonna work directly with him.

But also, part of the contract
is giving me the jerseys they use.

Damian has an amazing collection,
but I think getting the Messi jersey
is incredibly important.
He wants to do a deal with Messi.
He needs a record-breaking sale.
Believe me when I tell you,
I'm gonna make another play,

without that jersey.

and we're just getting started

wore this jersey

I've been a collector
since I was, like, 6 years old.
My first big deal, I was 11 or 12,
and I did a deal for $17,000.
One of my first LeBrons.
The card today is worth about $400,000.
So, in hindsight,
it probably wasn't my best call by myself.
But that's okay. You live and you learn.
Today we're going to check out this guy.
His name is Kevin.
I know he has an Apple 1 computer.
-Really?
-[Ryan] Yeah.
I wanted to do the tech because it's
so much different from what I normally do.
I look for booms in the market.
Things that are global impacts
that will last a long time.
Tech's not going anywhere.
-I haven't come across those before.
-Oh, that is super old, 1976 at least.
Exactly. And obviously,
my comfort zone is sports.
So that's why I wanted to bring you along.
[Ken] Alex Fung is one
of my part-time item scouts
who tracks down unique items
and reports back to the core team.
He's the prince of nerd culture.
He's perfect to deal in everything
in the world of non-sports,
especially technology, or toys,
or games, and things of that nature.
This is your world.
So I think having your knowledge,

One of the things that made me
fall in love with collectibles as a kid,
I remember Pokémon tournaments
and going with my brother.
It's just what I love to do,
and I stuck with it.
I'm really intrigued about this.
It's hard to always know for sure
what they actually have and don't have.

-But he seemed very knowledgeable.
-He's a collector of these things?
He's a collector
of all old Apple products.
There's… There's real value there.
Is this someone that would be
considering consigning with us?
I think he would.
It's all about building trust.
I know Kevin has
an extensive collection of Apple products.
I don't know to what level.
As long as we got the Apple 1 deal done,
I feel there's more business
to be done here.

to look at my Apple 1,
which is the original Apple computer
from 1976.
-[Ryan] Beautiful house.
-Here it is in all its glory.
Oh my gosh.

-That is a beauty.
I got into collecting Apple products
through my father. He worked at DEC,
which is Digital Equipment Corporation,
when I was a kid.
We had computers from a very young age,
and a lot of them were Apple computers.
So a lot of it is very nostalgia-driven.
It's a combination
of nostalgia and archaeology.
Holy crap, man. That is amazing.
This is the original Apple 1 computer.
And I'm sitting in front of it…
-[laughs]
…for the first time in my life.
[Alex] span style="style2"In 1971, a 16-year-old Steve Jobs
met computer engineering genius
Steve Wozniak at Hewlett Packard.
Jobs had the vision to recognize
Wozniak's personal computer design
for its monumental potential.
And in 1976,
the two joined forces with Ronald Wayne
to finalize Apple's first 50 computers
in Jobs' parents' garage
in Los Altos, California.
One year later,
the Apple 1 was officially discontinued,
as Wozniak was the only person
who could answer most customer service
support questions about the computer.
Many Apple 1s were traded for Apple IIs,
and subsequently destroyed,
making this fully functional
Apple 1 computer an impossibly rare find.
That's what you bought?
And it was what, $666 retail?
Yeah. At the time,
it was this in a cardboard box.
And we had to purchase the keyboard
and a monitor separately.
-May I? This is crazy.
-Yeah, of course.
-[Fung] My God. [laughs]
-[Ryan] This is his dream world.
-Let him nerd out for a second.
-[Fung] Wow.
Some other things come with it.
This, which is the Apple 1 manual
signed by Steve Jobs and Ronald Wayne.
Ronald Wayne was the third Apple founder
who left early on.
[Ryan] "Think different."
How cool is that?
This particular computer
also has something unique about it.
On the back, you see a number here,
which is 50 01-0050.
This was actually
the handwriting of Steve Jobs.
He never really signed anything.
Yeah, there are a lot of stories
of Steve Jobs turning down autographs,
and in aggressive
and maybe not-so-pleasant ways.
He did not like to sign,
so anything with his signature
commands a premium for sure.
So I have to ask,
why are you thinking about selling it now?
To be honest with you,
my hope is that somebody buys it
that can really display it.
Allow people to come in, use it, see it.
This is such an integral part
of computing history,
I think it deserves to be in a museum.
Deserves to have its story told.
I think that's the key.
That's what, you know, we do at Goldin.
We'll tell that story to make sure
people from around the world
not only know what this is,
but just how rare it is.
Something like this
may never be seen again.

who, when he was a young boy,
pulled a Steph Curry Rookie card.
With a player as popular as Stephen Curry,

There's an added pressure
when you're dealing with someone's mother.
It's one thing dealing with someone,
their cards, collectibles,
getting them to part ways.
But when it's someone's mother,
she's the one making the decision.
-Tell me a little more about this card.
-Um…
I got it when I was a kid.
I was 11 years old.
I pulled it from a pack,
and since then I've kept it in a drawer.
That's awesome.
Yeah. And he kept it pretty nice.
Well, I gotta see it.

Avery, do you know what this is?
I mean,
I know it's a Stephen Curry Rookie,
but not really. [laughs]
Yeah, I mean it's…
This is not just any Steph Curry Rookie.
This is one of
his most popular rookie cards.
This is the gold parallel.
There are only 50 of these in the world.
-[Beth] You're kidding.
-[chuckles]
[Dave] No, not exaggerating at all.
[Alex] span style="style2"In 1993,
the trading card company Topps
released the first refractor cards,
which had a shiny, rainbow-like finish.
As refractors grew
in popularity and value,
the trading card industry began
releasing a limited number of refractors
in a variety of colors and finishes,
each more rare than the last.
For this Steph Curry card,
the gold is
the most sought-after refractor,
as only 50 were ever made.
Making this an impossibly rare find
and highly valuable.
It's number one of 50.
This is actually the first one
of the gold parallel that was created.
Steph Curry's a very collectible guy.
He's won multiple championships.
His values are
one of the biggest in the entire NBA.
Now, obviously, condition will mean a lot.
Let me look at this closer here.
It's not bad centering.
The corners are immaculate.
How did you keep it this clean
all this time?
My dad just always told me
to take care of my cards.
He collected when he was younger, so…
It's good he told you to take care of it,
because the difference in grading
on this between a 7 and a 9,
we're literally talking
hundreds of thousands of dollars.
What?
-[suspenseful music playing]
-[Dave] Oh yeah.
Grading is a way that you can
actually assign a number grade
to a piece of memorabilia.
A number 1 is usually poor,
where a number 10
is usually gem mint condition.
If this card were to grade a 10…
You might be looking
at a million-dollar card right here.
-[Beth] You're kidding.
-[Dave chuckles] No.
-I don't even know what to say. [laughs]
-[Beth] Okay.
What do you think
by just looking at it here?
Would it be a 10?
Have you seen tens before? Um…
I feel like this card
is probably not gonna get the 10.
Obviously, it's very difficult
to get a 10.
I mean, a 10 is absolutely flawless.
And also on the chrome card,
any type of surface scratches
we might not even be able to see,
will be looked at under magnification.
That's why the 10 value
jumps up to the $1 million,
and then the next level below it
is $300,000 to $400,000.
So there's a big difference in perfection.
Obviously, I can't guarantee
any specific grades there,
but I'd love to see this go
all the way to the finish line.
That starts with you
leaving the card with me today,
and me jumping on a plane,
flying across the country,
and starting that grading process.
I mean, I've already got a cash offer
for, uh, $150,000 for this card as is,
so it's kind of, uh,
hard to turn that down,
you know, that amount of money. [chuckles]
-Yeah, I mean, that's…
-[pensive music playing]
That's a pretty good offer.
Someone will make an all-cash offer
because cash is king.
It usually motivates people to transact.
But that person will do the right thing.
They'll go get it graded
and bring it to an auction like us
and make double or triple the money.
I appreciate you being honest with me
about the offer,
and I'll be transparent with you.
If we take this to grading
and it grades a 6 or less,
we might only get $100,000 for it.
If we were to grade an 8,
I feel like we'd be somewhere around
the $150,000 offer you have on the table.
Okay. And then what about an 8.5?
Yeah, I couldn't imagine seeing this
coming any lower than an 8.5.
Okay.
If we were to get the 8.5,
pretty confident we'd be over $200,000.
Somewhere between $200,000 and $250,000.
-That's a lot of money.
-[exhales]
That'd be life-changing.
I mean if this card went for $250,000,
I'd probably wanna
pay off my parents' house,
and maybe even buy my dad his dream car.
-[chuckles]
-And $150,000 is a lot of money.
If it were me,
I'd probably consider
just taking the $150,000.
Not knowing what it's gonna get graded.
But it's your card.
-It's your decision.

If you wanna take the risk, go for it.
I think I'll have to take the risk.
I feel like there's
so much more potential in it.

how much value can be lost
if an item is open versus
in its original casing and not open.
Um, you can sometimes lose, like,
60%-70% of the value
once an item is taken out of a package.
It's… It's that extreme.
With the Apple 1, it's going to be major,
major eyeballs just pertaining to that.
And if you'd be considering
consigning any of these,
it would go hand-in-hand
like brother and sister.
I have to ask you,
would you consider
consigning anything here?

the ones that are sealed.
So it's the 20th anniversary Mac,
this one down here,
which is the Darth Vader

and then an original 128K Mac,

I got into collecting Apple products
through my father. He worked at DEC,
which is Digital Equipment Corporation,
when I was a kid.
We had computers from a very young age,
and a lot of them were Apple computers.
So a lot of it is very nostalgia-driven.
It's a combination
of nostalgia and archaeology.
Holy crap, man. That is amazing.
This is the original Apple 1 computer.
And I'm sitting in front of it…
-[laughs]
…for the first time in my life.
[Alex] span style="style2"In 1971, a 16-year-old Steve Jobs
met computer engineering genius
Steve Wozniak at Hewlett Packard.
Jobs had the vision to recognize
Wozniak's personal computer design
for its monumental potential.
And in 1976,
the two joined forces with Ronald Wayne
to finalize Apple's first 50 computers
in Jobs' parents' garage
in Los Altos, California.
One year later,
the Apple 1 was officially discontinued,
as Wozniak was the only person
who could answer most customer service
support questions about the computer.
Many Apple 1s were traded for Apple IIs,
and subsequently destroyed,
making this fully functional
Apple 1 computer an impossibly rare find.
That's what you bought?
And it was what, $666 retail?
Yeah. At the time,
it was this in a cardboard box.
And we had to purchase the keyboard
and a monitor separately.
-May I? This is crazy.
-Yeah, of course.
-[Fung] My God. [laughs]
-[Ryan] This is his dream world.
-Let him nerd out for a second.
-[Fung] Wow.
Some other things come with it.
This, which is the Apple 1 manual
signed by Steve Jobs and Ronald Wayne.
Ronald Wayne was the third Apple founder
who left early on.
[Ryan] "Think different."
How cool is that?
This particular computer
also has something unique about it.
On the back, you see a number here,
which is 50 01-0050.
This was actually
the handwriting of Steve Jobs.
He never really signed anything.
Yeah, there are a lot of stories
of Steve Jobs turning down autographs,
and in aggressive
and maybe not-so-pleasant ways.
He did not like to sign,
so anything with his signature
commands a premium for sure.
So I have to ask,
why are you thinking about selling it now?
To be honest with you,
my hope is that somebody buys it
that can really display it.
Allow people to come in, use it, see it.
This is such an integral part
of computing history,
I think it deserves to be in a museum.
Deserves to have its story told.
I think that's the key.
That's what, you know, we do at Goldin.
We'll tell that story to make sure
people from around the world
not only know what this is,
but just how rare it is.

the trading card company Topps
released the first refractor cards,
which had a shiny, rainbow-like finish.
As refractors grew
in popularity and value,

each more rare than the last.
For this Steph Curry card,
the gold is
the most sought-after refractor,
as only 50 were ever made.
Making this an impossibly rare find
and highly valuable.
It's number one of 50.
This is actually the first one
of the gold parallel that was created.
Steph Curry's a very collectible guy.
He's won multiple championships.
His values are
one of the biggest in the entire NBA.
Now, obviously, condition will mean a lot.
Let me look at this closer here.
It's not bad centering.
The corners are immaculate.
How did you keep it this clean
all this time?
My dad just always told me
to take care of my cards.
He collected when he was younger, so…
It's good he told you to take care of it,
because the difference in grading
on this between a 7 and a 9,
we're literally talking
hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Grading is a way that you can
actually assign a number grade
to a piece of memorabilia.
A number 1 is usually poor,
where a number 10
is usually gem mint condition.

by just looking at it here?

I mean, a 10 is absolutely flawless.
And also on the chrome card,
any type of surface scratches
we might not even be able to see,
will be looked at under magnification.
That's why the 10 value
jumps up to the $1 million,
and then the next level below it
is $300,000 to $400,000.
So there's a big difference in perfection.
Obviously, I can't guarantee
any specific grades there,
but I'd love to see this go
all the way to the finish line.
That starts with you
leaving the card with me today,
and me jumping on a plane,
flying across the country,
and starting that grading process.
I mean, I've already got a cash offer
for, uh, $150,000 for this card as is,
so it's kind of, uh,
hard to turn that down,
you know, that amount of money. [chuckles]

That's a pretty good offer.
Someone will make an all-cash offer
because cash is king.
It usually motivates people to transact.
But that person will do the right thing.
They'll go get it graded
and bring it to an auction like us

If we take this to grading
and it grades a 6 or less,
we might only get $100,000 for it.
If we were to grade an 8,
I feel like we'd be somewhere around
