If I catch you, you'll regret it.
Go.
- Come on, mom! - Go.
Go.
- I can't - Can't what? - I can't do it.
- What was that? - I can't breathe.
- Do you think I care? - No.
- You know what I care about? - [panting.]
- I care about them.
- Yeah.
[panting.]
- So what do you think that means? - You're gonna let them do it? - No, I'm gonna make you do it.
- All right.
- All day, every day.
For five days.
Mom's gonna hang out.
Take a break for a second.
All the way up.
All the way back.
I'm gonna give you one warning.
Don't say "I can't" to me.
One warning.
Normally, if she behaved like that, I mean, I would eviscerate her.
But I can't, you know.
I got a 12-year-old and a 10-year-old there.
And that's forcing me to sort of temper My usualTechniques in this situation.
Hit it! Go, go, go.
Jog, jog, jog.
Go, go, go.
Good.
How long has it been since you've worked out? - About 20 years.
- You haven't worked out in 20 years? Now, how does that happen, do you think? 20 years? - I never learned how to exercise, ever.
- Do you know how to walk? Why are you so quick to say, "I can't"? Are you a glutton for punishment? - I'm scared.
- Be scared of me When you say, "I can't.
" You wanna be scared of something? Be scared of me when I'm pissed off.
Scared of what? Good.
Down.
- Of dying.
- Of dying? You're already dying.
You got that covered.
And we're jogging.
- [panting.]
- No, I said jogging.
Jogging means jogging.
- Oh, yeah.
- I can't breathe.
- Bummer.
- I can't I can't - Run.
- I can't - Run.
- I can't run.
Aah! - Run.
- No! - Oh, yeah.
You know what you're doing right now? - I'm falling.
- You're quitting.
You are quitting.
- I'm falling.
- No, you're not.
- I am.
- Get up, right now.
- Hey, guys.
Hang out there for one sec.
- Get up.
- I can't.
- Get up right now.
- I can't breathe, Jillian.
- Get your ass up.
You've rested long enough.
Now, get up before I frickin' pull you up myself And carry you.
Run.
You have a serious situation.
Both: Come on, mom! - See those kids? - Come on, mama, you can do it! - Look at them.
Open your eyes.
And run to those kids And show me you're gonna do what it takes.
Go! Good.
Yay! Jumping.
Go.
Eight.
Hit the ground.
- I can't.
- Ten.
- I can't.
- Get up.
- [panting.]
Sit up.
- [whispering.]
sit up.
- Up.
- I'm scared, mom.
[crying.]
because you just remind me of dad.
- The kids are Visibly disturbed.
And she's like laid out on the floor, As though she's dying.
And I'm barely able to control my fury with her, 'cause I just want her to see what she's doing to them.
- OkayWhy don't you guys show me around.
- All right.
It's a little messy.
Been a little crazy.
This is the front room.
This is my very messy kitchen.
I don't clean it.
- Okay - This is my room.
My dad.
My dad.
My dad.
That was at one of my dad's jazz concerts.
- That was in October, and he died in June.
He wasn't feeling good there.
- This is a good picture.
- Yeah.
- All right.
- Jordan's room is usually cleaner than this.
- That's Jordan's room? - Yeah.
- That's Izzy's.
- That's Izzy's room.
Where's your room? - [chuckles.]
it's downstairs.
It's much worse than theirs.
- Let's go.
- Ow.
- No.
No.
This is unacceptable.
What is happening in here? This is no way to live your life.
This is your home.
You deserve more than this.
Don't you? - I do.
I really do.
- It's really hard for me not to beat up on myself.
- It's really hard for me not to have all these words, Like, "you're such a slob.
And now the whole world's gonna know.
" You know, I need to change that voice, 'cause that's what stops me in my tracks.
It's really overwhelming.
- [crying.]
you cannot get to the end of your life And think that you spent every night in here.
It doesn't need to be like this.
It's just Not good enough for you.
Okay? - Okay.
- This is not livable.
It's not good enough.
It's not good enough for me.
It's not good enough for her.
It's not good enough for the kids.
This is what happens when somebody just gives up on life.
You've basically crawled in here into your cave to die.
- Let's just Fix this.
All right? That's what we're gonna do.
All right.
Let's get something funny straight.
So that's Jordan's room.
That's Izzy's room.
This is your room.
And the little disaster area upstairs Is supposed to be my room.
- [laughing.]
I'm gonna say No to all of it.
- I'm going to a motel.
The goal for tomorrow Is we need to make this house livable.
This is something that I can help her fix, And that's what I'm gonna do.
- Enjoy the hotel.
- Yeah.
- [sighs.]
[knocks.]
- Good morning.
- Good morning.
SoWe have a lot to do today.
Mom is going to change And get her fitness clothes on.
We're going to the gym.
- All right.
- While we are gone, You two have the, uh, pleasure Of cleaning the rooms out.
In the meantime, I'm going to beat the crap out of your mother.
- You don't mind? - No, we don't mind.
- Yes, you mind terribly.
- My mom's gonna get killed.
But I know it's gonna be for our own good.
I'm excited to see what happens And what's in store for the days to come.
- See you later.
- We'll be back.
So remember, You're gonna feel like you can't breathe.
And that's because your body Is out of shape And is just having a hard time Getting oxygen into the cells And into the muscles.
The bottom line is you're not going to die.
You survived yesterday.
- Yeah.
- You're gonna survive this.
All right, so now we're gonna get you going A little bit quicker.
You're gonna run one minute.
- Okay.
- Reiterate the goal.
- I'm gonna run one minute.
- Five miles an hour.
- Ohh.
- You're at 30 seconds.
- I feel like I'm gonna fall over.
- No, you're not going to fall over.
You're gonna center yourself and dig deeper! - Okay.
- Aren't you? You want more? - No.
- Yeah, you do.
When I say, "do you want more?" you say, "yes.
Yes, I want more.
" Deb, you have 15 seconds.
Do you or do you not want more? - Yes.
- Do you or do you not want more? - Yes.
- TenNine If you want more, deb, you gotta give more.
You gotta give more.
OpenYourEyes! Jump.
You see what happens when you stay present and focused? Huh? - Yeah.
- Do you hear me? - I do.
- Don't "yes" me.
- Yes, I hear you.
- Don't "yes" me.
Deborah is buried.
She's buried in crap, She's buried in fat, And she's buried with walls.
If she's not dealing with the deeper stuff inside, The weight will come back on And the house will end up a war zone again.
I need her to have some sort of a breakthrough.
Get up there, deb! Get up there! Pull! I can feel you quitting.
That doesn't look like a pull-up do it right! Nope, I don't feel anything.
You got nothin'.
Lift! Lift! - Can you get off, so I can get on my - No, I will not.
No, life is not gonna get off you.
Get higher.
Two.
Get higher.
One.
Get up.
Uhh! You pissed? Are you pissed off? Come on, weakling.
I'm gonna push you around Until you fight back.
Punch, deb! Now! Fight back, deb! - I'm sick of this.
I think you expect too much.
- I do? - You do.
- I expect too much from you? - Yes.
- That you don't have to give? - 'cause I don't.
- You don't have to give? - I don't have anything.
- You don't have anything to give? - [sobbing.]
no! - You don't? - I don't.
I have nothing.
- Look at me.
Look at me.
I have nothing left.
I'm so tired.
I'm soI want I'm so tired - I know.
- Of doing everything by myself.
I'm just so tired.
- I know.
I know.
Look at me.
So we know what you gotta do.
Need to reach out.
We're not gonna be able to fix it all in one week.
But we're gonna have an action plan.
You're gonna start asking for help.
You're gonna give yourself a voice.
You're gonna fight back.
- I feel alone a lot.
And so to have someone just there Talking me through it And encouraging me and telling me I'm doing good, It's what I'm missing.
And just having that makes me feel Like I can do a lot more.
- Stay here this week.
That was awesome.
Now let's clean the house.
Okay.
Here we go.
We're off to the races.
- These are Christmas things that are gonna go to storage.
- I need a whole set of trash bags.
- This is all magazines that we don't even read.
- Come on down here, killer.
- "weight loss.
" never opened.
Goodwill and garbage, please.
We're making huge strides.
Why has this taken you so long? - Because when you're not here, It doesn't happen.
I don't get the help.
- Why? - Isabella does do a lot.
And she has a lot of resentment That she feels like she has to take care of her brother.
I feel like I have put her in this co-parent role - Well - That she doesn't need to be in.
- Where are they? Where are the little buggers? - Call the kids in the house for a second.
- Jordan! Isabella! - Why is it that I'm here, and suddenly We're, like, whipping into gear? Like, what is it about me that's making you guys do this? - I don't know, 'cause you're really, like, tough.
- What if mom was tough like me? - We would do a lot of stuff.
- We would do a lot more.
- Why, you think? - I don't know, I feel like she would take charge.
- Sometimes, we don't necessarily listen to her.
Like the dishes, we should be able to do that.
If we just do that stuff, one at a time, I think, It'll be a lot easier.
- They're craving structure.
Now, you crack the whip a little bit.
- Yeah.
- So speaking of which, Let's keep this show on the road a little bit more.
Step this up; I want this whole thing cleaned up.
- Those go out to the curb.
Goodwill stuff here.
Take that one to the back porch for me.
- Oh, my god.
- It's the end of day two, and I am exhausted.
It's like this this mess, this war zone That they've been living in is just a symptom Of what's really broken in this family.
I've got a lot of work ahead of me.
You gonna fight? Coming up on losing it Faster! Go! We're gonna start training for a 5k.
There's a nice goal.
Go! Go! Go! - Feel like I'm gonna fall off.
- Rock and roll! Pick it up! What are you so scared of? - I can't! - Izzy, can you not leave? Push! - I'm pissed at you.
Come on! - Agh! - After six weeks, today's the day Of deb's 5k race.
- I bruised my bones.
Right now, I couldn't walk a 5k.
[whirring.]
- It seems that, since Gary's been gone, Izzy has stepped into that co-parenting role with deb.
She's only 12.
So my goal for today is to take some of the pressure Off of Izzy.
SoHow you feeling about all this? - [whispers.]
good.
- You feeling a little better? - Yeah.
- Were things different when your dad was alive? - Things were different.
I feel like my mom, Even though the stress was greater on her part, Um, I feel like it was easier for her To, like, talk to people.
Because, just the way she could talk to him.
And so I feel like she doesn't have that anymore.
And it's really hard.
Because I kind of took that place for her.
The adult to talk to, like, after work.
- Okay, I'm gonna go to work with her.
- Okay.
- And I'm gonna start establishing An adult pier group.
And it's getting her to reach out To adults and ask for help.
So I think you and Jordan, Go be 12.
Go for a bike ride.
Go skateboard.
Go do something fun.
- Okay.
- I'll be back.
- And this is my office.
- Okay.
- [laughing.]
- Hi there.
Deb's actually confided in me That she loves her coworkers and she loves her job.
So I'm thinking that This might be a great source of adult support for her.
Boss man.
Can I come in? - Welcome.
- I could really use a little help with her.
- Uh, yes.
- Got some serious health issues.
AndI think she's She doesn't like to ask for help.
- She's had personal challenges.
- Hmm.
- Being a single mom, She has to sometimes run And tend to her children.
- So she's a little scattered here.
- Uh, a little bit, yeah.
But everybody here wants to help her.
We've been sharing before-and-after pictures That's my before.
- Really?! - Mm-hmm.
- How much weight did you lose? - Uh, 30 pounds.
- My wife one day came to the house And says, "we're joining a gym.
" We found a running club, And every Saturday morning, I run a 5k.
Then I have three of the staff members now Registered to run their first 5k.
- Mm-hmm.
- Hey there.
- Howdy.
So, deb, there's a 5k situation here.
- YesThere's a 5k situation.
- Three days a week after work, Your coworkers go to the park and run for free.
- What time do you run from? - It's an hour.
5:00 to 6:00.
- So what are you gonna be doing Monday, Wednesday, Friday night? - I'm gonna be out jogging with them.
- We're gonna start training for a 5k.
There's a nice goal.
We've got some support and some help.
- It's exciting.
- It turns out that deb Has a lot more support than she thought.
And now she just needs to utilize it And stop leaning on Izzy so much.
50 seconds.
Isn't this a pretty sight? You're running side by side with your daughter.
- Uhh! I feel like I'm gonna fall off.
- Don't talk.
Don't talk.
I'm just gonna pick it up just a tiny bit.
- Agh! I can't! Aah! - Head up.
- Aah! Aah! - Arms open.
Try again.
- [whimpering.]
- but you got a little scared.
- [crying.]
- Go again.
Finish it.
- I know it's hard.
- Shh.
So you're gonna run six for one minute.
You're not gonna stop and cry.
15 seconds in.
24 seconds in.
Less than 30 seconds now.
25 seconds left.
10 seconds left.
Almost there.
Three seconds.
Two seconds.
What are you so scared of, deb? - Maybe the unknown.
- And what the hell is that gonna do That's worse than what you've already been through? - Nothing.
Absolutely nothing.
- What is that gonna do? You can go back And your house can become like a tornado hit it Right after I leave, you know.
It's not my house.
It's not my body.
It's not my daughter.
- How are you, honey? - Fine.
- Are you pissed at me? - No.
- Please say what you're pissed about.
- I'm not pissed at you.
I'm pissed at Jillian.
- Why? 'cause she's talking to me like this? - Yeah.
- Okay.
You don't have to protect me, honey.
You don't have to protect me.
I can protect myself.
- Izzy, can you not leave? - [crying.]
- Tell me how you feel.
- I'm mad at you.
- Okay.
- I'm pissed at you.
You don't even give a crap.
- I'm sorry I upset you.
Just hear me out.
When else in your life have you felt like no one cared? - [sighs.]
everyone yells at me For not doing the right thing.
Even though I'm trying to help her.
- Do you ever tell her? - No.
- Why not? - 'cause she's so stressed with everything else.
- It's time for me to show deb Exactly all the grown-up burdens That she's putting on Izzy.
And I think I have just the thing To help get that point across.
And create a little change in this family.
Will you help her put that on? - Can you hold that up? You put I'm putting it on? - No.
- No, she's putting it on? Heavy, huh? - Okay.
We're just gonna spread out a little bit And come here and here.
- Are you sure she should be wearing that? Shouldn't I be wearing it? - Should you? I don't feel like she should have the extra weight.
- You don't? - No, I don't.
And I know I give it to you all the time.
And I don't mean to.
And I'm not going to anymore.
You can take that off and put it on me.
You are 12.
Izzy, you don't have to be the mom.
Take it off and put it on me.
Because you're [Velcro ripping.]
You're the child.
You don't carry the extra weight.
- Have you been carrying extra weight? - Yeah.
- Have you? - How does that make you feel.
- [crying.]
I have I hate it, mom.
[sobbing.]
I hate it.
You knew that.
- I'm so sorry.
I'm sorry.
I know, I tell you all the time, "you don't have to, you don't have to.
" But then you're the one home alone with your brother.
- [crying.]
and you get so upset.
And I hate it.
[sobbing.]
- Take it off.
- I feel like I have to do everything around the house.
Even though it's not my job.
I hate it.
- I know.
And I'm really sorry.
I have no excuses.
I really don't.
- You have an excuse.
Your husband passed away.
Your father passed away.
You guys have been to hell and back as a family.
However There comes a point When we need to turn that around.
And I know you know that Or I wouldn't be here.
- Right.
- It was nice just to get all that resentment And stress off my shoulders And to tell her how I feel.
- I promise.
I'm sorry.
I really feel like I've put you in the place of daddy, A lot.
And I'm so sorry about that.
I feel really guilty that I've done this to her for years.
You know, her dad's been dead almost six years.
And she's filled that role, and she's only 12.
I'm so afraid that I've wasted away her childhood.
And how do I get that back for her? It's not gonna be easy.
But she shouldn't have to carry that burden.
- It seems that since dad's been gone, This family's had their entire lives on hold.
And one of the things I want to do Is get them out today, Have them enjoy their lives a little bit, you know? Be active and have fun at the same time.
- All right, guys.
- I'm so excited.
- What's that say? - The dance complex! - That's right.
I thought this would be a great way For you guys to spend some quality time.
- Yay! I'm so excited.
[subdued music.]
- This is really important that you're bonding.
You know what I mean? - Exactly.
- And I don't want to get in the way of this.
So I am gonna be over here.
- Chicken.
- Did you call me a chicken? It's a mother-daughter activity.
No one said mother-daughter- Jillian activity.
And breathe it out.
Breathe it out.
Stretch it out.
[applause.]
Everybody, thank you again for coming.
Now we're gonna really dance, okay? - That was just the warm-up.
- I know that.
- Do I look like a dancer to you? [drum beating.]
[upbeat jazzy music.]
I'm not very good at this, Which makes me highly uncomfortable.
ButIsabella's very good at it.
And I think her and deb are doing great.
Maybe next time, they could go without me.
Get! - My mom is glowing.
She just seems so happy, and, to see her, like, Smiling and dancing at the same time Was amazing.
I really wanna come back.
- I'm enjoying myself.
It was a lot of fun.
We're having a lot of fun.
- Aaah! - This was a great thing for deb and Izzy to be together And to bond over.
- You can prepare the dressing, And I'll start working on the chicken.
Okay, we need half a cup of basil.
- Dijon mustard, honey.
I'll get the honey out.
- Atta boy.
Garlic! Super food! It's good for the immune system.
Good for heart health.
And lowers your cholesterol.
So good for you.
That is so good.
- You know, it was a little overwhelming for me To try to make this.
You know, I mean I'm sore and I'm tired and I wanted to sit down.
And, um, but because everybody was helping, That made it a lot less overwhelming.
And it just it's great.
- Having a family dinner together Is really nice.
I'm seeing them happy.
We're eating good food.
It's so nice to have time.
That special quality time together.
- Let's hear about some of your Favorite family moments together.
UmI think my favorite was Christmas, When my dad was here.
'cause he loved playing Santa Claus.
And I think that was really cool, Just to have all of us together.
And, like, there was no stress.
- Last mother's day, we all went kayaking together Um, over on the Charles River.
- That was the best.
- It was so much fun.
I mean, we laughed so hard.
We kept on running into the banks, Trying to turn around.
I was a little nervous, But we all did great.
We kept on yelling, "no, the left side! No, the right side!" [laughter.]
- Today was a great day.
But my work is not done yet.
You know, I need to give deb one more final push And really seal the deal Before I take the training wheels off And let her ride on her own.
Here we go.
You set it.
I think you can do more.
- Okay.
- It's my last day with deb.
She's definitely made progress.
But I'm not 100% sold That she's gonna be able to do this on her own.
So I want to make sure That before I leave Boston She's 100% confident and feeling capable.
Arms are straight, and you're gonna row.
Got this or no? You got this or no? - I got it.
- Do you have it or not? - I have it.
- Do you have it? - I have it! - Up.
Pop it.
There we go.
Last one.
There you go.
Pull! Let me hear it.
Let me hear it.
- I'm pulling! Get your fat ass up! - [laughs.]
- Five! Six! Seven! Eight! - Two more.
- Nine! Ten! - Up! Get up! - 12! - Rest.
Where is all that power from? What does that power mean? You like that? - I like it.
- It's always been there.
Are you worthy of help? - I am.
I am worthy of help.
And I deserve it.
I deserve it, just for who I am - And who are you? - I'm a person! I'm a person.
- Tell me about that person.
I have a great sense of humor.
- That's - I'm caring.
- Good! - I've been to hell and back, and I'm still standing.
- And I'm gonna be 54 in two weeks, And I'm gonna [bleep.]
change my life.
[sniffles.]
I have half my life to live, and I'm gonna live it For the first time.
- Finally I feel like I'm hearing deb's voice.
You know, she's starting to believe That she deserves to be happy and to be healthy.
She's got her head in the right place.
She's got the tools.
Now it's up to her.
- Final thing I wanna do here Is show the Joneses That exercise can be fun, And they can spend quality family time together All at once.
Now, you talked about some very positive Family memories.
Involving a canoe.
SoThis is our last workout together.
And, you know, all workouts don't have to be grueling.
- Right.
- So I thought that it should be something fun.
Something that you can do as a family.
- All right.
- And I'm just saying I'm gonna say one thing, And I'm gonna say it now.
If I end up in the water - [laughing.]
- Jordan gets it.
Jordan gets it.
We don't often get to do these kind of things together, 'cause we're always racing to something.
So it's pretty rare.
Okay, you have to go in and swim, Jillian.
- If I go in this water, You're gonna be one ten-year-old.
"here lies Jordan Jones.
" - Stroke! Stroke! Pick it up.
Hup, two.
Ah, that's nice.
- See, we're supposed to have two on one side And two on the other side.
But there's someone not paddling.
- Jillian! - Feel the muscles working? - Yes! - Yes! - Calories burning, people? All: Yes.
- It's very peaceful.
Lovin' every second of this.
Ooh.
- Aah! - Oh, my Jillian! - Ohh! Jeez! Ohh! GreatIdea! [sputters.]
We've come to the end of our exciting adventure.
And this is the part where we're Declaring our goals.
- SoMommy I am always right here If you need someone to work out with Or you need some encouragement Or you're feeling really beat up.

I just want you to think about being healthy.
- Okay.
I will apply to my school's running club.

- After spending a week with Jillian, I have learned so much.
I want to do better because of her.
I'm totally ready to start this new life, And so I'm really excited.
- Aww, all right.
Come here.
[laughter.]
- Having Jillian's help and support for the week Was really, really amazing.
Totally changed my life.
And I'm really excited.
I can't wait for a month from now And six months from now and a year from now In terms of what our lives are gonna be like.
- Jordan, please head to the car.
[laughter.]
Jordan, please head to the car.
This was a great way to end my visit.
I feel like in only week we've made huge strides.
And thank god, Because failure is not an option for deb.
These kids need her.
She is their only parent.
- Jordan.
- Once I get a hold of that bullhorn, Jillian - Oh, yeah? What? What? What are you gonna do? This is the start from the couch to the 5k.
- Come on, deb.
- Doin' good.
- I run with my coworkers three days a week.
I'm getting to the gym every morning.
I really want to change the way I'm living.
And I want my kids to be proud and happy And healthy.
It's been hard work.
The weight's coming off.
But I'm a little discouraged.
Been really struggling with me knee.
- You okay? - I bruised my bone.
And it's a lot of pain.
I feel like I have to do the impossible, And I have to believe that I can run a 5k, Which, right now, I couldn't walk a 5k.
[siren.]
- Today's the day of deb's 5k race.
It's been six weeks since I've see the Jones family.
I cannot wait to see them.
Deb has been training her tail off, literally.
And she's determined to finish this race.
So I'm gonna be there with her And so are all her friends and coworkers.
- Here she comes! - YouLook good! You look hot! I show up, I see deb, and I'm like, Is this the woman I met six weeks ago? - Deb! - It just came off when we started eating healthy.
- I was definitely excited for Jillian to see all of us, Because we look different.
In six weeks, I lost 32 pounds.
It's amazing.
- Hi there, gorgeous! - Jillian! - I've lost weight.
Izzy, even though she didn't Want her to lose weight, she did.
But it was really about eating healthy.
- Hey, you.
[laughter.]
- Guess what I have? T-shirts! - Yay! - Pink! - My favorite color.
- Are you ready to do this? - I am ready.
- You ready? I'm ready! Today, I am here because six weeks ago, I moved in with a local family, the Jones family.
And, in only six weeks, Deb Jones has lost 32 pounds.
[cheers and applause.]
AndShe's dropped her blood sugar levels Back down to normal And will be off her diabetes medication Within the month.
SoLet's hear it for deb! Let's run this sucker! [cheers and applause.]
- Before we started, I really didn't think I was gonna be able to do it.
And I was very nervous and sick to my stomach.
- Stay with it.
Stay with it, d.
Stay with it.
- But I'm thinking I don't want to Let my kids down, And I'm not gonna let myself down.
- Oh, my goodness, I'm so proud of my mom.
I just feel like she knows that she can do it.
She inspires me tremendously.
- About halfway through, I started to get a little worried About my knee.
But I wasn't gonna quit.
Jillian was right there beside me, And I felt like we could do this.
I just needed that little extra support.
- We're almost there.
- You're getting it.
You're getting it.
Piece of cake.
- So incredible.
- Come on.
Good job.
- I really didn't know what to expect, you know? I wasn't sure if she was gonna fall apart Or unravel.
And she just pushed right through it.
This is not the deb that I saw six weeks ago.
[cheers and applause.]
- We got close to the finish line, And I could hear the crowd.
I thought, "we gotta finish really strong.
" It wasn't easy, but I got encouragement.
And we made it.
That I can run a 5k is really wonderful.
I feel like anything's possible.
[cheers and applause.]
[indistinct chatter.]
- Oh.
- Oh, my god.
- Oh, I can't believe it.
- I love you.
- Nice, mom.
- Deb, congratulations On running your 5k.
Congratulations on reclaiming your health.
Congratulations on your weight loss.
How do you feel about that? - I feel really amazing.
Now, deb, jillianmichaels.
Com is committed To helping people achieve their weight loss goals And their life goals.
I know that you're a single parent.
I know that you've been struggling to make ends meet.
And I thought that maybe $50,000 Would lighten the load a little bit.
[cheers and applause.]
Maybe make things a little easier.
[cheers and applause.]
Knowing that deb's health is back on track, That her diabetes is practically gone, And she'll be off her medication by the end of the month, I know these kids are gonna be okay.
I know she's gonna be okay.
I can leave here knowing these kids are gonna grow up With their mom.
That's all that I really cared about.
- I hope that what people Really, really understand from this story Is that it took me six weeks to lose 32 pounds, To just feel like a different person.
It wasn't a lifetime.
- Hey! I score! - Ohh! Our family's really changed.
It's amazing my mom comes home from work, And she's happy because she worked out in the morning.
It's put our family together more.
- I just feel like my mom is so much more Relaxed.
My mom has achieved so many things.
It just makes me so happy.
Because I feel like I have my mom back.
- The fact that I did it Is really still amazing to me.
It's really amazing.
If you're feeling stuck on the couch, You know, and you're feeling like you can't do it, You can do it.
- I'm learning to live livin' to learn
- Fight back, deb! - You either change this, Or you better start looking For who's gonna take care of your children.
- This is no way to live your life.
- Feel like I have to do everything around the house.
- This is gross.
- I hate it.
- You deserve more than this.
- I can't.
I can't.
I can't do it.
- Get your ass up.
You've rested long enough.
Don't say "I can't" to me.
- [sobbing.]
I have nothing left.
- I'm learning to live livin' to learn starting to sing my song right or wrong learning to live - America, this week, I'm in Cambridge, Massachusetts, And I'm about to move in with the Jones family.
Deborah the mom, Isabella, her daughter, And Jordan, her son.
Over five years ago, They lost their father, And Deborah lost her husband.
And since then, they've been having difficulty Making ends meet in every way.
Have a look.
- My husband died June 4, 2004.
He died at the marriage counselor's.
I had dragged him there because he was obese And because of his health.
And he had a heart attack while we were waiting to go in.
And it it changed our lives forever.
- I was four years old at the time, And I cried a lot.
It was just really, really, um, sad.
- It was really hard for me because I was a big daddy's girl, [crying.]
andWhen I lost him, It was really hard for me.
- Now I am afraid of so many things.
I'm afraid of exercising.
I have a huge fear of dying.
And my kids will be orphans.
They've already been to see Dr.
Van Herle, And we know that Deborah's health is of real concern.
- Deborah, there is an ideal healthy weight Of about 130 pounds.
Let's take a look at what you weigh.
- Ugh.
- You're 53 years old.
And your physical age is 63.
You lost Gary 5 1/2 years ago.
He was 53, right? Massive heart attack.
And you have diabetes, high cholesterol.
You have all the genetics of having dangerous heart disease.
Same kind that Gary had.
So you are a time bomb.
You either change this or You better start looking For who's gonna take care of your children.
- And that's why I'm here.
These kids cannot afford to lose another parent.
- I've only got a week.
It's time to get this show on the road.
Gotta let the family know I'm here And get started.
- No, mom, I didn't eat the bread.
[phone ringing.]
- Your call has been forwarded - Voicemail.
- To an automatic voice message system.
- Voice message.
I'm hanging up.
- Hello? That was weird.
[line ringing.]
- Pick it up.
Hello? - Hi.
Who's this? - This is Jordan.
- Hi, Jordan.
Do you know who this is? - Who is this? - This is Jillian.
- Hi, Jillian.
[laughter.]
- Are you kidding? Oh, my - Hi.
Can I talk to mom real quick? - [laughing.]
oh, my god.
- Hello? - This is Jillian.
How are you? - Oh, my god! - I'm good.
How are you? - I'm good.
I'm in Cambridge.
- You are? You're in Cambridge? You gonna come visit? - Uh, actually, you're gonna come meet me In 20 minutes at the sports center.
So get the kids, get your gear on, And I'll see you real soon.
- Oh, my god.
- Oh! Okay.
- Bye, now.
- Oh, my god.
- We're gonna meet her at the sports center.
- Okay! Which sports center? - I don't know.
- Oh, my god.
She's there.
That's her.
- I see you're here on time.
- [giggling.]
oh, god.
- I love that we're off to a nice, good, solid start.
- Oh, my god.
- Oh, she's cute! - Oh, my - you're Isabella, right? - Yeah, hi! - Nice to meet you.
- Hi.
- Hi there.
How ya doin'? - Oh, my god.
- Nice to meet you on the phone.
- Nice to meet you.
- Okay.
Now then I want to start this out kind of fun.
Hop over here And let's see some jump rope.
Nice and easy.
Let me see what you got.
Nice.
Oh, look at you, mom.
Not bad.
Little more hand-eye coordination.
Five, four, Three make an effort, please.
TwoAnd one.
Excellent! Jumping Jacks, 20 seconds.
- Go, mom.
- Give her a little encouragement here.
- Let's go, mama! - I can't even lift 'em.
- It's hard.
Two - Come on, mom! - I can't even - and one, okay.
Down and up.
Whoo! Hey, mom, we're all the way up here.
- [breathless.]
I know.
- Come on.
And backwards jog.
All the way back.
Go, go, go.
Go means go.
Go means go.
Don't let me catch you.

These kids need her.
She is their only parent.
