Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch (2021) s01e02 Episode Script
Submerged Treasure
[Duane] There's some kind
of a dark force
that keeps this gold
from being found.
[Charlie] We've had a problem
with theft, trespassing
Oh, [bleep]
[Charlie]
damaging of some equipment.
She's fixing that.
Bring him up.
[bleep]
[Duane] When it fights
this hard, that usually means
there's a fortune there.
[Eric] See that?
That's natural gold.
[Duane] Holy [bleep].
[laughs]
Now we just have
to get into that cavern.
[intense music playing]
[Duane] Hell yeah!
It's pretty damn dangerous,
but it's the only entry point,
right now,
that we know well.
[Eric] There we go.
He's on it.
Sediment coming through.
What is this?
[Eric] Duane,
we got something big.
Does that look
like a Spanish coin to you?
[Chad] We're not even
inside the cave yet.
We've got to keep going.
[thunder rumbling]
[Duane] There's some places
on Earth
that just don't seem right.
The land feels different.
It acts different.
And this here
is one of those places.
Some say the land
is trying to hold on
to something.
Aztec Treasure,
caverns of gold.
Look at this.
-[Duane] More than riches,
-It'd be a million dollars.
[Duane] Some even say
there's a buried space ship.
Hell yeah.
Me?
I never cared much
about the stories,
I just care about finding
whatever the hell's
in the ground.
-[man 1] Let's get out
of here!
-[man 2] No!
[intense music playing]
[Chad] There's so many
skeptics out there
that don't believe
anything like this
is possible.
It was a process
to get to this moment,
but it's paying off.
Kind of work
around the clock out here,
so we got some
lights right here.
This is just
like Field of Dreams
for my dad.
So this, uh,
this pond wasn't here.
Uh, what they did is
they drilled down,
and found
the underground cavern
and it was full of water.
And there's, like,
50 frogs that came out
that were blind and albino.
They've been in the dark
so long, they couldn't
see anything.
That just shows
there is a cave system
they were living in
because they
have oxygen to live.
The entrance was
right in there,
but since then,
it's been filled up
with all kinds of stuff.
We can't get back in there.
We're going to clean up
years of sediment sludge,
clean it all out,
so we can get in there.
[Duane] That's where
the treasure is.
[Chad] We know it's there.
[wind blowing]
[theme music]
[Duane] There she is.
Finally here.
It's right over there.
[Chad] We got
the whole crew here.
We got skid loaders,
[inaudible].
They getting after it, man.
[Duane] Once we get
on to something
we don't like messing around.
Now we know.
We know
there's gold down there..
Natural gold or treasure.
We just want to get down
in there.
[Chad] Right now,
we're just tracking
in a rathole rig.
We'll see how it goes.
[Duane] I just want
to get into these caverns,
and find out
what the hell's down.
So I got Charlie boy
looking into the coin,
to gather all the
information he can.
[Charlie] I sent a picture
of the coins,
to a professor at Utah State,
and he has some ideas on it.
He's agreed to meet with me
and discuss some of the facts
about it in the legends.
[John Barton] First off,
the legends are abundant,
but where it all starts
is the Spanish
with Hernán Cortés
attack the Aztec in 1519.
He starts
to round up all the gold
and then,
as they took their gold north
to their cousins to use
and ask them to watch over.
And they stored it
in a hiding place
in the Uinta mountains.
And on pain of death,
they would never reveal
where the gold was.
And if anybody else
tried to do anything there,
they'd be killed.
So do you think
that the Blind Frog Ranch
where we're at
is probably central
to all that?
Yes.
According to everything
I've read,
uh, not very far
from your ranch
is likely one
of the sacred storage caverns.
According to the legend,
in the larger depository,
there was one major entrance,
but it had seven chambers.
It's funny you say that,
because our resident geologist
has detected seven caverns.
[geologist] We have
seven faults with potentially
seven caverns.
Wow, on your property?
Yeah, I like that
now that's coming from you.
When you find them,
I want to see.
Now the eerie,
the spooky part kicks in.
You know, they're all cursed
that anybody who finds them,
tragedy will befall them
if they don't leave it alone.
And there's, you know,
myriad stories of people
who have found something
and died mysteriously.
I think
there's threads of consistency
and threads of truth
in almost all of them.
[Charlie] We've heard all
the stories about
the Aztec treasure
being buried somewhere
near the property,
and then finding the coin
and have the historian
connect the dots for us.
The stories were starting
to kind of fall in line
with each other a little bit,
and we have all indications
that we have everything
that's in the legends.
[sounds of nature]
[Charlie] You know, I spoke
with that history professor,
and he said you all are just
really right on top of it.
He mentioned
that this treasure
has been hidden underground
in these caverns
and there's seven chambers
or seven entrances to this.
[Eric] That brings two things
to my mind
is first of all,
that the faults swarm in here.
We have potentially
seven caverns there.
So, yeah,
we've got these parallels.
To me, that means
that there could be caves
to the north
and those could be caches
for treasures.
We very well could be sitting
on the largest
unfound treasure
in the history
of the United States, anyway.
[Duane] Hey, I like this.
I like this deal,
but, you know,
some of these professionals,
and I'm not trying to be rude,
but some
of these professionals
that's been doing it
for a long time
and had never come up
with something.
I don't want to sound cocky,
but maybe
we're the professionals.
-Well, yeah,
-A little cocky didn't it?
[laughs]
But guys, if we do this,
we got to take it
all the way through.
[tense music playing]
[Duane] In the oil business
we used rathole rigs a lot.
You can go about 150 foot
if you need to.
These rathole rigs
aren't cheap.
It's about 150 bucks a foot,
so this 30 foot hole
costs about five grand.
-We drill right there.
-Okay.
I know it's getting
a little close
to the edge there,
but you know
it's gonna be good.
Whenever I broke
into the void,
I was using a track hole
with a grinding disk on it.
So that hole flooded.
Now it's all clogged up
with rock and mud.
Trying to dig it out
is gonna take a while
and gonna be a mess.
So we're going
to use the rathole rig
to just move over
and drill us a new hole,
right next to it.
That way, we'll have a new,
clean way in.
The blind frogs
that came out of there
need air to breathe,
so we know
there's an air pocket close by
underneath it.
If we find that pocket,
we will have a dry entrance.
It's a lot easier
to find gold
when you're breathing air.
You make yourself comfortable,
but the closer we get
to that little spot
right out there,
the better off we are.
And then we'll just drill
until we hit the void.
We know
there's some riches there,
-Just got to find it.
-Just got to find it.
All right.
It's got to be the one.
[tense music playing]
We're as close
as we can really get
to the caves right there.
And we're up here
on dry ground.
We're like
about eight to ten foot
before we get
to the water table,
and after that
it's about 22 foot down.
Plus or minus, I don't know.
[Eric] Oh, yeah, it's wet.
It's wet.
The wet clay is good.
It means
we've tapped the same water
that's in the pond.
We're officially in ground
where it's saturated.
-How many feet?
-Nineteen.
We're at 23, Duane,
and water still coming in
from up above.
[Duane] We still got
a ways to go.
[Eric] It's got to be
down there somewhere.
[Duane] I kind of hoped to see
this little bit
drop a couple feet
and I have to catch it.
It means it drops
into the void.
That'd be the same thing
as what happened to me
on a track on it just fell in.
I don't know.
I just have to see it.
It's awful wet,
but wet
doesn't mean all that much.
We're looking for a void.
I don't know.
I don't know.
How deep are we now?
-Thirty-five feet.
-[Eric] Thirty-five?
Slow it down. Yeah.
Yeah, exactly.
It's like smearing out, right?
[Duane] And just like I said,
rathole rigs aren't cheap.
So at 35 feet, I've
already spent about six
grand on this hole,
so we got to punch through.
[machine whirring]
Something just got easier,
didn't it?
[Eric] I'm just waiting
for that drilling break.
That's all I'm waiting for.
I want to watch that Kelly
drop a few feet.
It's stressful
when you're trying
to find something
and it's not happening.
I've been through this before
in the oil field,
it always ends up happening
at, like,
three o'clock in the morning
and you're waiting
for this pay zone to come in
and you know,
sometimes it does,
and sometimes it doesn't.
[tense music playing]
[machine whirring]
[Eric] Duane,
we're feeling vibrations
We made the [inaudible]
in here.
[Duane] Feels like
the ground is shaking more.
[Eric] That's a whole
different ball game here.
You know, you could feel it
on your feet.
-Hell, man.
-[Eric] Yeah.
[metal banging sound]
[tense music playing]
[Duane] Feels like
the ground is shaking more.
[metal banging sound]
Holy [bleep] I hit something!
What you got?
What you got?
I'm whinking
we're about
to have drilling break here.
Look at how high
the water level is.
Did you feel a drop?
A sudden drilling break there?
-Felt like a drop.
-That's what it looked like
to me, yeah.
Duane, we had
a drill break here.
Significant, maybe five foot.
So we got,
we're into something here.
[Duane] On my way down.
[Eric] There it is.
That water is just flowing in.
You can see it right there.
-I think we're on the void.
-[Duane] Yeah.
-I'm sure a lot of water
-[Eric] Just coming in.
I think we may be in it.
[Eric laughing]
[water splashing sound]
[Eric] Listen to that.
That's the water
in the cavern.
[Duane] I tell you what.
This is huge.
[Eric] I know you have, Duane.
[Duane] Even though
it's not a dry entrance,
we want it.
The water means we've broken
into the same cave again.
So now we got a 30 foot
vertical drop in.
So I got a lot to think about,
but for right now it's okay.
This is good.
Hell, yeah.
Next step now, boys.
[Duane] But you don't want
to get too excited.
When you get too excited,
it drains you
for making a good decision.
[water splashing sound]
[Eric exclaims]
[Eric] Let's come back
to this tomorrow.
-[Duane] Let's do it.
-[Eric] Celebrate a little.
[Duane] So here's the deal,
fellas.
I have run companies
all my life,
and I did it
with telling everybody
the truth.
In saying that,
I don't know
where this deal's gonna go.
We've seen
a lot of things out here,
and now I've seen things
that y'all haven't seen,
and I haven't backed off yet.
But I need you guys' help.
I will make this work
and I'll make good
for everybody
that hangs in there.
And if and when
we can do anything
[cow mooing]
[Chad] What's that?
-Do you hear that?
-[Duane] Yeah.
-[Chad] There's cows
over here.
-Yeah.
[cows mooing]
[Chad] Something spooked them.
I'll go down here.
You go around over there?
-[Duane] We'll go down there.
-Yep.
[cows mooing]
[cow mooing]
[Duane] Hey, look.
[Chad] Do you hear that?
Did you see all of that?
[man] Oh, yeah.
[Chad] The cows
were super spooked.
So you could hear these, like,
huge branches snapping
running right towards us.
And we don't even own
[bleep] cows here.
It's from the neighbors
across the way.
It's crazy.
I thought I saw
something dark across here.
[bleep]
Look at that. Look at that.
Look over there.
It's like
the insides are gone.
Hey, Charlie,
come look at this.
Can you see this?
[Charlie] Oh, [bleep].
That's a deer.
[Duane] What the [bleep]?
-[Charlie] It got ripped
apart.
-[Duane] [bleep] head is off.
Oh, man.
[Charlie] Look at that
son of a bitch.
Something got a hold
of his ass.
His [bleep] head
has been chewed off.
[Duane] That's what scared
the cows?
[Charlie] Yeah,
I would think so.
[Duane] Chewed
the damn head off
[bleep] here.
[Charlie] Oh, man.
Ugh.
[Duane] Some weird [bleep]
goes on around here.
I know that.
[Charlie] This sun buck
was ripped open
from the belly.
[Duane] Yep. Look at that.
[Charlie] It's like
it ripped out
his sex organ.
What the hell?
[bleep]
[Duane] What would rip out
the guts
of this son of a bitch?
[Charlie] What would eat
the head off of it?
You know, you don't see
where it was pulled through
or anything like that.
It's just like boom.
It just happened here,
and it was done.
There's no drag trail.
It's the kind of stuff
that goes on
over at that Skinwalker place.
It's a pretty intense scene.
I've just never seen
anything like that.
[Duane] I don't know
what to tell you, fellas.
[Charlie] I'll tell you what,
you better start
watching your back
around here.
[thrumming sound]
[Carissa] For a period
of three days,
I would come back from working
and there would be
pieces of rabbit
all spread around my trailer.
On the fourth night,
I had my windows open,
and I heard something
tugging on the door.
I thought it was just
one of my co-workers
playing the joke
or coming to see
if I was awake.
I looked out the window,
then saw something very big
and very not human
move silhouetted
against the moon.
I've never seen
a human being move like that.
It kind of seemed disjointed,
and it just moved very slowly,
like it was purposely
looking for something.
That still terrifies me
to this day.
[thrumming sound]
[Duane] We're in, guys.
It's the same color.
So they're connected?
[Eric] Yeah. There's a conduit
between the pond there
and this.
So, yeah, the other thing
is that those last couple feet
that you insisted
on drilling, Duane,
we got into a different type
of rock.
[Duane] You could sure hear
the different tones
in the ground.
And last night
it was
a completely different tone.
[Eric] Yeah, so right here
we have this formation.
It's called
the Nugget Sandstone.
It was deposited
as wind-blown dunes, OK?
This material
is completely different.
-Take a look at it.
-[Chad] Yeah.
See how this is
really fine-grained.
That's coarser-grained.
So what that rock is,
it's called limestone.
It's a sandy limestone.
And that's the type of rock
all the major cavern systems
in the world
are made of.
-[Duane] Good yield.
-[Eric] Yeah.
[Duane] Eric is a legend
in the oil industry.
He's the real deal.
So having Eric here
as a geologist
is a game changer for us.
[Eric] So we got
a wet entrance here.
I mean,
we need to move on this
and figure out
how to enter this.
[Duane] Well,
there's still water
out there,
but it would've been nice
to have a dry entrance.
[Eric] Yeah.
[suspenseful music playing]
[Chad] So we'll have to get
all the gear prepped up.
-Oxygen tanks?
-Yeah.
-Get them filled up.
-[Duane] Get all those
picked up and loaded up.
-Get everything out here.
-Yeah.
-We're in the cave.
-Yeah.
Yes, we're in the cave.
[Duane] And so the thing about
that whole deal is,
where we're at in this hole,
the water table's still high.
-So we still have to go down
a long ways in that pipe
-[Chad] Right.
[Duane] Before we even get
into the opening.
There's way too many
risk points on this deal.
This is huge
that we found this hole.
But we need to stop
for a minute and say,
"Hey, look, you know,
way could have cave-ins.
"We could have air problems."
"We have
all these different things."
I'm totally against
entering that hole right now.
There's a lot of things
I just don't like right now.
[Chad] I'm ready to dive,
though.
We have to get in there.
That's what this whole thing
is about.
We have to get in there
somehow.
[Duane] You will not go in
through that hole.
It ain't going to happen.
[thrumming sound]
[Duane] I'm totally against
entering that hole right now.
There's a lot of things
I just don't like right now.
[Chad] I'm ready to dive,
though.
We have to get in there.
That's what
this whole thing is about.
We have to get in there
somehow.
You will not go in
through that hole.
It ain't going to happen.
The reason
we brought the rathole rig in
was to find the dry entrance.
If we would have gotten that,
we would've just
rigged up a winch,
and just lowered
Chad down into the cave.
When he need to get out,
we just bring him up.
So since it's flooded,
lowering Chad down in there
is dangerous,
and there's no way
of us getting him out
if there's a problem.
I would never
put you into something
that I wouldn't go into.
We just need
to make sure it's right.
-[Chad] That's it?
-[Duane] That's it.
-Yeah.
-Done.
[Chad] I mean,
this whole season
we're focusing
on getting in that hole,
getting in the cavern system,
and when he shut that down,
it kinda I mean,
I don't know,
we just have to get in there.
I feel like we have
a window that's closing.
[Duane] If you wanna dive,
we're gonna go in
through the pond.
I know what it is.
I know how to open
that son of a bitch up.
When I first punched
into the cavern,
I dove in.
The chute was clean.
I couldn't get into the cave.
[Eric] Duane? Holy [bleep].
[Duane] It ain't gonna work.
Chad's a much better diver
than I am.
So if I can get all the muck
out of the hole
and secure it
without nothing falling in,
then we can get Chad
and another diver in there.
How soon
can we have it cleaned up?
-You give me two days
on that deal.
-Give you two days.
-Two days.
-Yeah. Good.
[tense music playing]
[Duane] I trust my gut
about these things.
I've been right a few times.
So we only have one rig
and one operator,
and that's me.
Right now what I'm gonna do
is take the track hole
and pull out the sediment,
pull it out of the vault,
and see if we can't
get down into that hole.
Well,
I have a lot of digging to do.
And so the rest of the team,
they just might as well
go home or go to the bar
right now.
And go have fun.
[thrumming sound]
[Charlie] For me,
there's really no such thing
as a day off.
There's no such thing
as a headless deer
just falling out of the sky
in the middle
of your property.
When that happened
as a law enforcement officer,
they have a lot of questions
on how and why.
Something did that
to that animal.
And to be
in the place that it was,
was mighty strange.
-Mark?
-Yeah.
You know, I tracked down
Mark Julian.
He's a member
of the Navajo Nation.
I have some concerns
about some things
out on our ranch,
and I can't get anybody
to talk to me.
What's happening?
We've had some strange things
happen out there.
Recently we had a mutilation,
a deer.
I mean, the head
was gone off.
This is something
that our people
don't really talk about.
You know,
I just don't know
what I'm dealing with.
It sounds
like you might be dealing
with the Skinwalker.
And that, you know,
they're like medicine men
that went bad,
that took their abilities
and decided to use it
for the dark side.
You know,
medicine man wanna help you
and Skinwalkers
wanna hurt you.
They're able
to shape shift
into different animals.
If they need strength,
that may shift into a bear.
If they need speed,
they may shift
into a coyote or even a cat.
Then you need
to be very, very careful about
because they're there
to do you harm.
They're not there
to do you any good.
You know,
they may see something
and they don't like
what you're doing,
so they could very well
easily transform
and, you know,
interrupt whatever it is
you have going on.
[Charlie] So we might
be doing something
if we're having a problem,
we'll not be doing something
to stir up that.
Absolutely. Absolutely.
Yes. You know, the Skinwalkers
may not want you
disturbing things.
So, if these Skinwalkers
are shape-shifting Navajo,
which is I mean,
how did they get here?
In the 1860s.
That's when the Navajo
cursed the land
with Skinwalkers.
That's how they were released
as part of the curse.
They're not
just passing through.
-They're out there somewhere.
-Right.
-All the time.
-Right. Yes.
Well, that brings up
a lot of concern
for, uh, you know, our people
that we have working
out there.
[Mark] Yes, You need to be
very careful.
-Yeah.
-Very careful.
[Charlie] Based
on what I know now,
the main thing
is keep everybody safe
that's out there,
I've got to ramp
up the security
a little bit more too.
Take those precautions
for that type of scenario
that might happen.
[tense music playing]
[thrumming sound]
[Duane] Charlie Boy.
What's up?
[Charlie] Yeah, I've been out
doing some research
on this
whatever the Skinwalker
thing is.
-All right.
-Mutilation.
And I just met
with a guy back in town.
-He's a full blooded Navajo.
-Really?
And he gave me convo,
a full rundown on it,
and he was telling me, said,
"If you have a problem
out there with Skinwalkers,
be very, very careful."
Said they will hurt you.
He said they're not out there
just running around,
he said they're out there
for a reason.
Kind of has me
a little bit concerned.
We're getting ready
to drill again.
We want to put Chad down
in the pond, in the hole
and get him into the caverns.
Makes you wonder
why they're wanting
to start showing up now.
Yeah.
I mean, what's their intent?
[Charlie] Well, he said
if you have
something they want,
then they'll just take it
no matter what they have to do
to get it.
Well, if they're here,
then that means
we're doing something right.
Yeah. Absolutely.
All I can say is
we're not going to slow down,
and we're going to do
exactly what we need to do.
And, you know, hopefully,
hopefully that talking to him
didn't give you cold feet.
[Charlie] No, but, you know,
at the same time,
now I gotta rethink some
of the security issues again.
Because it's all
a whole other ball game,
so I'll kind of map house.
Okay. All right.
-Let's go.
-If you need me,
just holler at me.
[Duane] Got you covered.
Thank you, Charlie boy.
So I don't know
anything about Skinwalkers.
What they talk about,
what the legends are.
And if we're doing something
so called, it's supposed to be
irritating them.
We must be
doing something right
or getting close.
So for me, it's all about
finding out what's down,
and there is
not a creature on Earth
that's going to stop me.
[tense music playing]
[tense music playing
continues]
[Duane] I'm gonna tell my son
I'm gonna get something done
in two days.
You can bet your ass
that I'm going to get it done.
If we need to go all night
on this deal, we'll do it.
The hole we dug
with a rat hole rig
is just too small
and too vertical,
especially
since it's a wet entrance.
So I need
to take a track hole in there
and dip it out, clean it out.
So it's wide enough
for Chad and another diver
to get in there
and enter safely.
Hopefully,
I can just reach in there
and grab the rest of the pipe,
wiggle my bucket down in there
and see if I can't
jar that loose.
And it might
just open up those caves,
like draining a bathtub.
If I follow through,
I got my door open,
I should be able to get out.
[Chad] This is typical.
If he has a goal,
he's gonna accomplish it.
So I have faith.
This could be make or break.
Okay, Dad, let her rip.
[Duane] Give her hell.
[whirring
and splashing sounds]
[Duane] I need to get deeper.
[Chad] We're at an angle.
I don't know
if we straighten up
we're getting further in.
[Duane] Copy that.
[dramatic music playing]
-[Chad] Yeah.
-[Eric] That's a good amount
of material there.
Bleeding her out right there.
[Chad] He's put a lot of,
did stir it out,
which that was holding us up
in the first place.
So this is awesome news, man.
[Eric] Another full bucket.
He's, he's on it.
[Charlie] He's in there now.
[Duane] Bingo.
That's the bottom, boys.
[Chad] Hey, we're in.
[all exclaiming]
[Eric] Sure enough,
after working on it
for a while,
Duane just started
getting deeper and deeper.
He's pulling out
more material.
We've opened up that hole.
It looks like
Chad's going to be able
to get down in there.
You're going diving, buddy.
[all cheering]
[Duane] Didn't have to wait.
-Yeah, buddy.
-Good job.
Good deal, man. Good deal.
[Charlie] That was
a major obstacle force,
that hole.
It's sealed back over.
[Chad] Finally,
we [bleep] did it.
-Top grade.
-Yeah.
[Duane] This is
a good entry point,
but we need to let
the water calm down
so, you know, we got
some kind of visibility.
So tomorrow morning
we're going to check it
with a drone.
I think it's open,
and if it is open,
then Chad's going
to go in for a swim.
[tense music playing]
[Eric] Yeah,
that water's clear.
[Duane] Used to have
frogs too . They didn't
hitch hik e in here.
To get this deal
back opened up
and see the fresher water
coming in
and see the new sets of frogs
coming in.
They're coming from somewhere,
and it takes oxygen.
You know, this whole deal
was so murky.
It was unreal last night.
Now it's just crystal clear.
So we know
that we're in the live water
instead of a stagnant pond.
-Right.
-Yep.
[water splashing sound]
[Chad] I mean, it looks clear
right now already.
[Chad] Y eah.
[Eric] Wow.
-[Eric] Look at that.
-[Chad] Yeah.
[Eric] Much clearer.
Got to go down.
Look at that. Wait.
[Chad] Is that the hole?
I'll be damned.
-[Eric] Wow, look at that.
-[Chad] There it is.
[Eric] There it is.
-You can see in there.
-You can see it.
[laughs]
[Chad] Hell, it's going deeper
than we ever ha ve.
[Eric] Look at that.
[Duane] Chad, you ready
to get in there?
Hell, yeah.
We could get ready for this.
[Duane] Yeah, that's going.
It's a solid hole,
I worked on both sides of it.
Banged on most sides.
So it's solid rock going down.
[Chad] When I got the drone
over there to the hole,
it kept getting deeper
and deeper.
Started at 30,
and it kept going deeper
to, like, 42 foot.
That's the deepest
and the cleanest water
we've ever seen.
That just lets us know
that there's fresh water
in there.
We're inside the cave
right now.
-[Eric] Look at that.
-[Chad] There it is.
- Yup.
-[Eirc] Wow.
[Ryan] Let's get
ready to dive, huh?
[Chad] Oh, yeah. Let's do it.
Good stuff.
We finally get
to get in the hole.
We've been waiting for it
all year.
I mean, it's super stoked.
[Ryan] What do you think
about putting a rope on ya?
You could at least
find your way out.
-Yeah, I agree.
-I think you need it.
[Duane] Chad's going
to check it out first
because he's he's got a touch
a hard head into him,
which is fine.
He got that from somebody.
[tense music playing]
This is high risk.
It is and you know,
it's a scary move.
[tense music playing]
So we have to make this right
and it will be.
[tense music playing]
Chad goes in, Ryan goes in,
two always come up. Always.
We're going to find
the entry point.
Well, here's
what we're not going to do.
We will not go in.
Not now.
You can look around.
You can play that game
all you want.
To look in, shine it,
see what kind of voids are.
But we do not want
to enter the horizontal.
Not at all.
I want them guys to be safe
and I won't take
no bull [bleep].
All right, let's do it.
-You ready?
-Yeah, sir.
[Duane] In contracting
in the oil field,
you break things in the steps.
If you don't,
people don't just get hurt.
They get killed.
So, excited
as we all are,
the first trip
is just a scout trip.
See what the visibility is.
See what our access is
to the cave
and see what we need to do.
Chad, come here for a second.
[Duane] Chad's done a lot
to make this thing work.
And I'm not dumb.
I know he's doing
a lot of it for me,
and right now
I just need to make sure
he doesn't get himself killed
trying to make his dad proud,
because it's
[bleep] dangerous.
All right, you're going down.
[tense beats playing]
We're down about 27.5.
Thirty-one.
[Duane] He's right
over the hole.
[Eric] Thirty-six.
He's on the bottom.
[machine starting sound]
[suspenseful music playing]
[Eric] All right,
going down deeper in.
Forty feet.
[suspenseful music playing]
Forty-five feet.
He's at the bottom plus.
He's going in the cave.
[bleep]
[suspenseful music playing
continues]
[bubbling sound]
[bubbling sound]
[suspenseful music playing
continues]
[suspenseful music playing
continues]
-Keep an eye
on that air, too.
-Yeah.
[Eric] The 1200.
[Duane] He gets to 508,
tug on the rope two times.
[Eric] Copy that.
[bubbling sound]
[suspenseful music playing]
[bubbling sound]
[bubbling sound]
[bubbling sound]
[bubbling sound]
[Eric] Just above 1000 pounds.
[suspenseful music playing]
[Eric] He's down there now.
[Duane sighs]
Damn it!
[suspenseful music playing]
[suspenseful music playing
continues]
[suspenseful music playing]
[tense music playing]
[bubbling sound]
[Eric] All right.
He's coming up.
[tense music playing]
[Chad] There's a box
down there.
Another man-made something?
-No [bleep].
-Yeah.
[Chad] It's like over ten foot
down right in there,
right through the hole.
[Ryan] Man, it's huge.
[Duane]
Finding a man-made box,
this is a whole new ball game.
Now you don't put a box
that deep down in a cave
unless you're trying
to hide something
that's very valuable.
[Chad] Someone put something
right here.
-We're on the spot.
-[Eric] That's awesome.
[laughing]
[Charlie] You know,
all of the stories we hear
about the treasure here,
it really is looking
more like they're real
than just stories.
[Chad] Finally
we [bleeped] did it.
[Chad exclaiming]
[Duane] That's the Chad
I know.
[Chad] Definitely man made.
You could see on the corners.
It's held together with rope.
[Chad] The only thing
I could see inside of there
was rocks.
But it looks like
you could open from the top,
kind of like a lid.
And it had to be, like,
ten foot by ten foot.
I mean, if someone
put it a box down there,
it would have to be
something very important.
Like gold, I would imagine.
We're gonna have to open
this whole thing up.
There's no way we'll come out
of the hole.
We can have
the boys dig it out.
[Duane] Even though
he's a hardheaded [bleep]
I'm so excited
about what Chad did.
The best day of your life
is when your children
become your hero.
It's an honor
for him to be here for me.
It's It's an honor.
[tense music playing]
[Chad] Ah, look at this, 1849.
[men] If any of these
are real, they will be well
over a million dollars.
[tense music playing]
Oh, whoa!
What's this?
Did you hear that?
-Everyone out of here.
-Let's get out of here.
of a dark force
that keeps this gold
from being found.
[Charlie] We've had a problem
with theft, trespassing
Oh, [bleep]
[Charlie]
damaging of some equipment.
She's fixing that.
Bring him up.
[bleep]
[Duane] When it fights
this hard, that usually means
there's a fortune there.
[Eric] See that?
That's natural gold.
[Duane] Holy [bleep].
[laughs]
Now we just have
to get into that cavern.
[intense music playing]
[Duane] Hell yeah!
It's pretty damn dangerous,
but it's the only entry point,
right now,
that we know well.
[Eric] There we go.
He's on it.
Sediment coming through.
What is this?
[Eric] Duane,
we got something big.
Does that look
like a Spanish coin to you?
[Chad] We're not even
inside the cave yet.
We've got to keep going.
[thunder rumbling]
[Duane] There's some places
on Earth
that just don't seem right.
The land feels different.
It acts different.
And this here
is one of those places.
Some say the land
is trying to hold on
to something.
Aztec Treasure,
caverns of gold.
Look at this.
-[Duane] More than riches,
-It'd be a million dollars.
[Duane] Some even say
there's a buried space ship.
Hell yeah.
Me?
I never cared much
about the stories,
I just care about finding
whatever the hell's
in the ground.
-[man 1] Let's get out
of here!
-[man 2] No!
[intense music playing]
[Chad] There's so many
skeptics out there
that don't believe
anything like this
is possible.
It was a process
to get to this moment,
but it's paying off.
Kind of work
around the clock out here,
so we got some
lights right here.
This is just
like Field of Dreams
for my dad.
So this, uh,
this pond wasn't here.
Uh, what they did is
they drilled down,
and found
the underground cavern
and it was full of water.
And there's, like,
50 frogs that came out
that were blind and albino.
They've been in the dark
so long, they couldn't
see anything.
That just shows
there is a cave system
they were living in
because they
have oxygen to live.
The entrance was
right in there,
but since then,
it's been filled up
with all kinds of stuff.
We can't get back in there.
We're going to clean up
years of sediment sludge,
clean it all out,
so we can get in there.
[Duane] That's where
the treasure is.
[Chad] We know it's there.
[wind blowing]
[theme music]
[Duane] There she is.
Finally here.
It's right over there.
[Chad] We got
the whole crew here.
We got skid loaders,
[inaudible].
They getting after it, man.
[Duane] Once we get
on to something
we don't like messing around.
Now we know.
We know
there's gold down there..
Natural gold or treasure.
We just want to get down
in there.
[Chad] Right now,
we're just tracking
in a rathole rig.
We'll see how it goes.
[Duane] I just want
to get into these caverns,
and find out
what the hell's down.
So I got Charlie boy
looking into the coin,
to gather all the
information he can.
[Charlie] I sent a picture
of the coins,
to a professor at Utah State,
and he has some ideas on it.
He's agreed to meet with me
and discuss some of the facts
about it in the legends.
[John Barton] First off,
the legends are abundant,
but where it all starts
is the Spanish
with Hernán Cortés
attack the Aztec in 1519.
He starts
to round up all the gold
and then,
as they took their gold north
to their cousins to use
and ask them to watch over.
And they stored it
in a hiding place
in the Uinta mountains.
And on pain of death,
they would never reveal
where the gold was.
And if anybody else
tried to do anything there,
they'd be killed.
So do you think
that the Blind Frog Ranch
where we're at
is probably central
to all that?
Yes.
According to everything
I've read,
uh, not very far
from your ranch
is likely one
of the sacred storage caverns.
According to the legend,
in the larger depository,
there was one major entrance,
but it had seven chambers.
It's funny you say that,
because our resident geologist
has detected seven caverns.
[geologist] We have
seven faults with potentially
seven caverns.
Wow, on your property?
Yeah, I like that
now that's coming from you.
When you find them,
I want to see.
Now the eerie,
the spooky part kicks in.
You know, they're all cursed
that anybody who finds them,
tragedy will befall them
if they don't leave it alone.
And there's, you know,
myriad stories of people
who have found something
and died mysteriously.
I think
there's threads of consistency
and threads of truth
in almost all of them.
[Charlie] We've heard all
the stories about
the Aztec treasure
being buried somewhere
near the property,
and then finding the coin
and have the historian
connect the dots for us.
The stories were starting
to kind of fall in line
with each other a little bit,
and we have all indications
that we have everything
that's in the legends.
[sounds of nature]
[Charlie] You know, I spoke
with that history professor,
and he said you all are just
really right on top of it.
He mentioned
that this treasure
has been hidden underground
in these caverns
and there's seven chambers
or seven entrances to this.
[Eric] That brings two things
to my mind
is first of all,
that the faults swarm in here.
We have potentially
seven caverns there.
So, yeah,
we've got these parallels.
To me, that means
that there could be caves
to the north
and those could be caches
for treasures.
We very well could be sitting
on the largest
unfound treasure
in the history
of the United States, anyway.
[Duane] Hey, I like this.
I like this deal,
but, you know,
some of these professionals,
and I'm not trying to be rude,
but some
of these professionals
that's been doing it
for a long time
and had never come up
with something.
I don't want to sound cocky,
but maybe
we're the professionals.
-Well, yeah,
-A little cocky didn't it?
[laughs]
But guys, if we do this,
we got to take it
all the way through.
[tense music playing]
[Duane] In the oil business
we used rathole rigs a lot.
You can go about 150 foot
if you need to.
These rathole rigs
aren't cheap.
It's about 150 bucks a foot,
so this 30 foot hole
costs about five grand.
-We drill right there.
-Okay.
I know it's getting
a little close
to the edge there,
but you know
it's gonna be good.
Whenever I broke
into the void,
I was using a track hole
with a grinding disk on it.
So that hole flooded.
Now it's all clogged up
with rock and mud.
Trying to dig it out
is gonna take a while
and gonna be a mess.
So we're going
to use the rathole rig
to just move over
and drill us a new hole,
right next to it.
That way, we'll have a new,
clean way in.
The blind frogs
that came out of there
need air to breathe,
so we know
there's an air pocket close by
underneath it.
If we find that pocket,
we will have a dry entrance.
It's a lot easier
to find gold
when you're breathing air.
You make yourself comfortable,
but the closer we get
to that little spot
right out there,
the better off we are.
And then we'll just drill
until we hit the void.
We know
there's some riches there,
-Just got to find it.
-Just got to find it.
All right.
It's got to be the one.
[tense music playing]
We're as close
as we can really get
to the caves right there.
And we're up here
on dry ground.
We're like
about eight to ten foot
before we get
to the water table,
and after that
it's about 22 foot down.
Plus or minus, I don't know.
[Eric] Oh, yeah, it's wet.
It's wet.
The wet clay is good.
It means
we've tapped the same water
that's in the pond.
We're officially in ground
where it's saturated.
-How many feet?
-Nineteen.
We're at 23, Duane,
and water still coming in
from up above.
[Duane] We still got
a ways to go.
[Eric] It's got to be
down there somewhere.
[Duane] I kind of hoped to see
this little bit
drop a couple feet
and I have to catch it.
It means it drops
into the void.
That'd be the same thing
as what happened to me
on a track on it just fell in.
I don't know.
I just have to see it.
It's awful wet,
but wet
doesn't mean all that much.
We're looking for a void.
I don't know.
I don't know.
How deep are we now?
-Thirty-five feet.
-[Eric] Thirty-five?
Slow it down. Yeah.
Yeah, exactly.
It's like smearing out, right?
[Duane] And just like I said,
rathole rigs aren't cheap.
So at 35 feet, I've
already spent about six
grand on this hole,
so we got to punch through.
[machine whirring]
Something just got easier,
didn't it?
[Eric] I'm just waiting
for that drilling break.
That's all I'm waiting for.
I want to watch that Kelly
drop a few feet.
It's stressful
when you're trying
to find something
and it's not happening.
I've been through this before
in the oil field,
it always ends up happening
at, like,
three o'clock in the morning
and you're waiting
for this pay zone to come in
and you know,
sometimes it does,
and sometimes it doesn't.
[tense music playing]
[machine whirring]
[Eric] Duane,
we're feeling vibrations
We made the [inaudible]
in here.
[Duane] Feels like
the ground is shaking more.
[Eric] That's a whole
different ball game here.
You know, you could feel it
on your feet.
-Hell, man.
-[Eric] Yeah.
[metal banging sound]
[tense music playing]
[Duane] Feels like
the ground is shaking more.
[metal banging sound]
Holy [bleep] I hit something!
What you got?
What you got?
I'm whinking
we're about
to have drilling break here.
Look at how high
the water level is.
Did you feel a drop?
A sudden drilling break there?
-Felt like a drop.
-That's what it looked like
to me, yeah.
Duane, we had
a drill break here.
Significant, maybe five foot.
So we got,
we're into something here.
[Duane] On my way down.
[Eric] There it is.
That water is just flowing in.
You can see it right there.
-I think we're on the void.
-[Duane] Yeah.
-I'm sure a lot of water
-[Eric] Just coming in.
I think we may be in it.
[Eric laughing]
[water splashing sound]
[Eric] Listen to that.
That's the water
in the cavern.
[Duane] I tell you what.
This is huge.
[Eric] I know you have, Duane.
[Duane] Even though
it's not a dry entrance,
we want it.
The water means we've broken
into the same cave again.
So now we got a 30 foot
vertical drop in.
So I got a lot to think about,
but for right now it's okay.
This is good.
Hell, yeah.
Next step now, boys.
[Duane] But you don't want
to get too excited.
When you get too excited,
it drains you
for making a good decision.
[water splashing sound]
[Eric exclaims]
[Eric] Let's come back
to this tomorrow.
-[Duane] Let's do it.
-[Eric] Celebrate a little.
[Duane] So here's the deal,
fellas.
I have run companies
all my life,
and I did it
with telling everybody
the truth.
In saying that,
I don't know
where this deal's gonna go.
We've seen
a lot of things out here,
and now I've seen things
that y'all haven't seen,
and I haven't backed off yet.
But I need you guys' help.
I will make this work
and I'll make good
for everybody
that hangs in there.
And if and when
we can do anything
[cow mooing]
[Chad] What's that?
-Do you hear that?
-[Duane] Yeah.
-[Chad] There's cows
over here.
-Yeah.
[cows mooing]
[Chad] Something spooked them.
I'll go down here.
You go around over there?
-[Duane] We'll go down there.
-Yep.
[cows mooing]
[cow mooing]
[Duane] Hey, look.
[Chad] Do you hear that?
Did you see all of that?
[man] Oh, yeah.
[Chad] The cows
were super spooked.
So you could hear these, like,
huge branches snapping
running right towards us.
And we don't even own
[bleep] cows here.
It's from the neighbors
across the way.
It's crazy.
I thought I saw
something dark across here.
[bleep]
Look at that. Look at that.
Look over there.
It's like
the insides are gone.
Hey, Charlie,
come look at this.
Can you see this?
[Charlie] Oh, [bleep].
That's a deer.
[Duane] What the [bleep]?
-[Charlie] It got ripped
apart.
-[Duane] [bleep] head is off.
Oh, man.
[Charlie] Look at that
son of a bitch.
Something got a hold
of his ass.
His [bleep] head
has been chewed off.
[Duane] That's what scared
the cows?
[Charlie] Yeah,
I would think so.
[Duane] Chewed
the damn head off
[bleep] here.
[Charlie] Oh, man.
Ugh.
[Duane] Some weird [bleep]
goes on around here.
I know that.
[Charlie] This sun buck
was ripped open
from the belly.
[Duane] Yep. Look at that.
[Charlie] It's like
it ripped out
his sex organ.
What the hell?
[bleep]
[Duane] What would rip out
the guts
of this son of a bitch?
[Charlie] What would eat
the head off of it?
You know, you don't see
where it was pulled through
or anything like that.
It's just like boom.
It just happened here,
and it was done.
There's no drag trail.
It's the kind of stuff
that goes on
over at that Skinwalker place.
It's a pretty intense scene.
I've just never seen
anything like that.
[Duane] I don't know
what to tell you, fellas.
[Charlie] I'll tell you what,
you better start
watching your back
around here.
[thrumming sound]
[Carissa] For a period
of three days,
I would come back from working
and there would be
pieces of rabbit
all spread around my trailer.
On the fourth night,
I had my windows open,
and I heard something
tugging on the door.
I thought it was just
one of my co-workers
playing the joke
or coming to see
if I was awake.
I looked out the window,
then saw something very big
and very not human
move silhouetted
against the moon.
I've never seen
a human being move like that.
It kind of seemed disjointed,
and it just moved very slowly,
like it was purposely
looking for something.
That still terrifies me
to this day.
[thrumming sound]
[Duane] We're in, guys.
It's the same color.
So they're connected?
[Eric] Yeah. There's a conduit
between the pond there
and this.
So, yeah, the other thing
is that those last couple feet
that you insisted
on drilling, Duane,
we got into a different type
of rock.
[Duane] You could sure hear
the different tones
in the ground.
And last night
it was
a completely different tone.
[Eric] Yeah, so right here
we have this formation.
It's called
the Nugget Sandstone.
It was deposited
as wind-blown dunes, OK?
This material
is completely different.
-Take a look at it.
-[Chad] Yeah.
See how this is
really fine-grained.
That's coarser-grained.
So what that rock is,
it's called limestone.
It's a sandy limestone.
And that's the type of rock
all the major cavern systems
in the world
are made of.
-[Duane] Good yield.
-[Eric] Yeah.
[Duane] Eric is a legend
in the oil industry.
He's the real deal.
So having Eric here
as a geologist
is a game changer for us.
[Eric] So we got
a wet entrance here.
I mean,
we need to move on this
and figure out
how to enter this.
[Duane] Well,
there's still water
out there,
but it would've been nice
to have a dry entrance.
[Eric] Yeah.
[suspenseful music playing]
[Chad] So we'll have to get
all the gear prepped up.
-Oxygen tanks?
-Yeah.
-Get them filled up.
-[Duane] Get all those
picked up and loaded up.
-Get everything out here.
-Yeah.
-We're in the cave.
-Yeah.
Yes, we're in the cave.
[Duane] And so the thing about
that whole deal is,
where we're at in this hole,
the water table's still high.
-So we still have to go down
a long ways in that pipe
-[Chad] Right.
[Duane] Before we even get
into the opening.
There's way too many
risk points on this deal.
This is huge
that we found this hole.
But we need to stop
for a minute and say,
"Hey, look, you know,
way could have cave-ins.
"We could have air problems."
"We have
all these different things."
I'm totally against
entering that hole right now.
There's a lot of things
I just don't like right now.
[Chad] I'm ready to dive,
though.
We have to get in there.
That's what this whole thing
is about.
We have to get in there
somehow.
[Duane] You will not go in
through that hole.
It ain't going to happen.
[thrumming sound]
[Duane] I'm totally against
entering that hole right now.
There's a lot of things
I just don't like right now.
[Chad] I'm ready to dive,
though.
We have to get in there.
That's what
this whole thing is about.
We have to get in there
somehow.
You will not go in
through that hole.
It ain't going to happen.
The reason
we brought the rathole rig in
was to find the dry entrance.
If we would have gotten that,
we would've just
rigged up a winch,
and just lowered
Chad down into the cave.
When he need to get out,
we just bring him up.
So since it's flooded,
lowering Chad down in there
is dangerous,
and there's no way
of us getting him out
if there's a problem.
I would never
put you into something
that I wouldn't go into.
We just need
to make sure it's right.
-[Chad] That's it?
-[Duane] That's it.
-Yeah.
-Done.
[Chad] I mean,
this whole season
we're focusing
on getting in that hole,
getting in the cavern system,
and when he shut that down,
it kinda I mean,
I don't know,
we just have to get in there.
I feel like we have
a window that's closing.
[Duane] If you wanna dive,
we're gonna go in
through the pond.
I know what it is.
I know how to open
that son of a bitch up.
When I first punched
into the cavern,
I dove in.
The chute was clean.
I couldn't get into the cave.
[Eric] Duane? Holy [bleep].
[Duane] It ain't gonna work.
Chad's a much better diver
than I am.
So if I can get all the muck
out of the hole
and secure it
without nothing falling in,
then we can get Chad
and another diver in there.
How soon
can we have it cleaned up?
-You give me two days
on that deal.
-Give you two days.
-Two days.
-Yeah. Good.
[tense music playing]
[Duane] I trust my gut
about these things.
I've been right a few times.
So we only have one rig
and one operator,
and that's me.
Right now what I'm gonna do
is take the track hole
and pull out the sediment,
pull it out of the vault,
and see if we can't
get down into that hole.
Well,
I have a lot of digging to do.
And so the rest of the team,
they just might as well
go home or go to the bar
right now.
And go have fun.
[thrumming sound]
[Charlie] For me,
there's really no such thing
as a day off.
There's no such thing
as a headless deer
just falling out of the sky
in the middle
of your property.
When that happened
as a law enforcement officer,
they have a lot of questions
on how and why.
Something did that
to that animal.
And to be
in the place that it was,
was mighty strange.
-Mark?
-Yeah.
You know, I tracked down
Mark Julian.
He's a member
of the Navajo Nation.
I have some concerns
about some things
out on our ranch,
and I can't get anybody
to talk to me.
What's happening?
We've had some strange things
happen out there.
Recently we had a mutilation,
a deer.
I mean, the head
was gone off.
This is something
that our people
don't really talk about.
You know,
I just don't know
what I'm dealing with.
It sounds
like you might be dealing
with the Skinwalker.
And that, you know,
they're like medicine men
that went bad,
that took their abilities
and decided to use it
for the dark side.
You know,
medicine man wanna help you
and Skinwalkers
wanna hurt you.
They're able
to shape shift
into different animals.
If they need strength,
that may shift into a bear.
If they need speed,
they may shift
into a coyote or even a cat.
Then you need
to be very, very careful about
because they're there
to do you harm.
They're not there
to do you any good.
You know,
they may see something
and they don't like
what you're doing,
so they could very well
easily transform
and, you know,
interrupt whatever it is
you have going on.
[Charlie] So we might
be doing something
if we're having a problem,
we'll not be doing something
to stir up that.
Absolutely. Absolutely.
Yes. You know, the Skinwalkers
may not want you
disturbing things.
So, if these Skinwalkers
are shape-shifting Navajo,
which is I mean,
how did they get here?
In the 1860s.
That's when the Navajo
cursed the land
with Skinwalkers.
That's how they were released
as part of the curse.
They're not
just passing through.
-They're out there somewhere.
-Right.
-All the time.
-Right. Yes.
Well, that brings up
a lot of concern
for, uh, you know, our people
that we have working
out there.
[Mark] Yes, You need to be
very careful.
-Yeah.
-Very careful.
[Charlie] Based
on what I know now,
the main thing
is keep everybody safe
that's out there,
I've got to ramp
up the security
a little bit more too.
Take those precautions
for that type of scenario
that might happen.
[tense music playing]
[thrumming sound]
[Duane] Charlie Boy.
What's up?
[Charlie] Yeah, I've been out
doing some research
on this
whatever the Skinwalker
thing is.
-All right.
-Mutilation.
And I just met
with a guy back in town.
-He's a full blooded Navajo.
-Really?
And he gave me convo,
a full rundown on it,
and he was telling me, said,
"If you have a problem
out there with Skinwalkers,
be very, very careful."
Said they will hurt you.
He said they're not out there
just running around,
he said they're out there
for a reason.
Kind of has me
a little bit concerned.
We're getting ready
to drill again.
We want to put Chad down
in the pond, in the hole
and get him into the caverns.
Makes you wonder
why they're wanting
to start showing up now.
Yeah.
I mean, what's their intent?
[Charlie] Well, he said
if you have
something they want,
then they'll just take it
no matter what they have to do
to get it.
Well, if they're here,
then that means
we're doing something right.
Yeah. Absolutely.
All I can say is
we're not going to slow down,
and we're going to do
exactly what we need to do.
And, you know, hopefully,
hopefully that talking to him
didn't give you cold feet.
[Charlie] No, but, you know,
at the same time,
now I gotta rethink some
of the security issues again.
Because it's all
a whole other ball game,
so I'll kind of map house.
Okay. All right.
-Let's go.
-If you need me,
just holler at me.
[Duane] Got you covered.
Thank you, Charlie boy.
So I don't know
anything about Skinwalkers.
What they talk about,
what the legends are.
And if we're doing something
so called, it's supposed to be
irritating them.
We must be
doing something right
or getting close.
So for me, it's all about
finding out what's down,
and there is
not a creature on Earth
that's going to stop me.
[tense music playing]
[tense music playing
continues]
[Duane] I'm gonna tell my son
I'm gonna get something done
in two days.
You can bet your ass
that I'm going to get it done.
If we need to go all night
on this deal, we'll do it.
The hole we dug
with a rat hole rig
is just too small
and too vertical,
especially
since it's a wet entrance.
So I need
to take a track hole in there
and dip it out, clean it out.
So it's wide enough
for Chad and another diver
to get in there
and enter safely.
Hopefully,
I can just reach in there
and grab the rest of the pipe,
wiggle my bucket down in there
and see if I can't
jar that loose.
And it might
just open up those caves,
like draining a bathtub.
If I follow through,
I got my door open,
I should be able to get out.
[Chad] This is typical.
If he has a goal,
he's gonna accomplish it.
So I have faith.
This could be make or break.
Okay, Dad, let her rip.
[Duane] Give her hell.
[whirring
and splashing sounds]
[Duane] I need to get deeper.
[Chad] We're at an angle.
I don't know
if we straighten up
we're getting further in.
[Duane] Copy that.
[dramatic music playing]
-[Chad] Yeah.
-[Eric] That's a good amount
of material there.
Bleeding her out right there.
[Chad] He's put a lot of,
did stir it out,
which that was holding us up
in the first place.
So this is awesome news, man.
[Eric] Another full bucket.
He's, he's on it.
[Charlie] He's in there now.
[Duane] Bingo.
That's the bottom, boys.
[Chad] Hey, we're in.
[all exclaiming]
[Eric] Sure enough,
after working on it
for a while,
Duane just started
getting deeper and deeper.
He's pulling out
more material.
We've opened up that hole.
It looks like
Chad's going to be able
to get down in there.
You're going diving, buddy.
[all cheering]
[Duane] Didn't have to wait.
-Yeah, buddy.
-Good job.
Good deal, man. Good deal.
[Charlie] That was
a major obstacle force,
that hole.
It's sealed back over.
[Chad] Finally,
we [bleep] did it.
-Top grade.
-Yeah.
[Duane] This is
a good entry point,
but we need to let
the water calm down
so, you know, we got
some kind of visibility.
So tomorrow morning
we're going to check it
with a drone.
I think it's open,
and if it is open,
then Chad's going
to go in for a swim.
[tense music playing]
[Eric] Yeah,
that water's clear.
[Duane] Used to have
frogs too . They didn't
hitch hik e in here.
To get this deal
back opened up
and see the fresher water
coming in
and see the new sets of frogs
coming in.
They're coming from somewhere,
and it takes oxygen.
You know, this whole deal
was so murky.
It was unreal last night.
Now it's just crystal clear.
So we know
that we're in the live water
instead of a stagnant pond.
-Right.
-Yep.
[water splashing sound]
[Chad] I mean, it looks clear
right now already.
[Chad] Y eah.
[Eric] Wow.
-[Eric] Look at that.
-[Chad] Yeah.
[Eric] Much clearer.
Got to go down.
Look at that. Wait.
[Chad] Is that the hole?
I'll be damned.
-[Eric] Wow, look at that.
-[Chad] There it is.
[Eric] There it is.
-You can see in there.
-You can see it.
[laughs]
[Chad] Hell, it's going deeper
than we ever ha ve.
[Eric] Look at that.
[Duane] Chad, you ready
to get in there?
Hell, yeah.
We could get ready for this.
[Duane] Yeah, that's going.
It's a solid hole,
I worked on both sides of it.
Banged on most sides.
So it's solid rock going down.
[Chad] When I got the drone
over there to the hole,
it kept getting deeper
and deeper.
Started at 30,
and it kept going deeper
to, like, 42 foot.
That's the deepest
and the cleanest water
we've ever seen.
That just lets us know
that there's fresh water
in there.
We're inside the cave
right now.
-[Eric] Look at that.
-[Chad] There it is.
- Yup.
-[Eirc] Wow.
[Ryan] Let's get
ready to dive, huh?
[Chad] Oh, yeah. Let's do it.
Good stuff.
We finally get
to get in the hole.
We've been waiting for it
all year.
I mean, it's super stoked.
[Ryan] What do you think
about putting a rope on ya?
You could at least
find your way out.
-Yeah, I agree.
-I think you need it.
[Duane] Chad's going
to check it out first
because he's he's got a touch
a hard head into him,
which is fine.
He got that from somebody.
[tense music playing]
This is high risk.
It is and you know,
it's a scary move.
[tense music playing]
So we have to make this right
and it will be.
[tense music playing]
Chad goes in, Ryan goes in,
two always come up. Always.
We're going to find
the entry point.
Well, here's
what we're not going to do.
We will not go in.
Not now.
You can look around.
You can play that game
all you want.
To look in, shine it,
see what kind of voids are.
But we do not want
to enter the horizontal.
Not at all.
I want them guys to be safe
and I won't take
no bull [bleep].
All right, let's do it.
-You ready?
-Yeah, sir.
[Duane] In contracting
in the oil field,
you break things in the steps.
If you don't,
people don't just get hurt.
They get killed.
So, excited
as we all are,
the first trip
is just a scout trip.
See what the visibility is.
See what our access is
to the cave
and see what we need to do.
Chad, come here for a second.
[Duane] Chad's done a lot
to make this thing work.
And I'm not dumb.
I know he's doing
a lot of it for me,
and right now
I just need to make sure
he doesn't get himself killed
trying to make his dad proud,
because it's
[bleep] dangerous.
All right, you're going down.
[tense beats playing]
We're down about 27.5.
Thirty-one.
[Duane] He's right
over the hole.
[Eric] Thirty-six.
He's on the bottom.
[machine starting sound]
[suspenseful music playing]
[Eric] All right,
going down deeper in.
Forty feet.
[suspenseful music playing]
Forty-five feet.
He's at the bottom plus.
He's going in the cave.
[bleep]
[suspenseful music playing
continues]
[bubbling sound]
[bubbling sound]
[suspenseful music playing
continues]
[suspenseful music playing
continues]
-Keep an eye
on that air, too.
-Yeah.
[Eric] The 1200.
[Duane] He gets to 508,
tug on the rope two times.
[Eric] Copy that.
[bubbling sound]
[suspenseful music playing]
[bubbling sound]
[bubbling sound]
[bubbling sound]
[bubbling sound]
[Eric] Just above 1000 pounds.
[suspenseful music playing]
[Eric] He's down there now.
[Duane sighs]
Damn it!
[suspenseful music playing]
[suspenseful music playing
continues]
[suspenseful music playing]
[tense music playing]
[bubbling sound]
[Eric] All right.
He's coming up.
[tense music playing]
[Chad] There's a box
down there.
Another man-made something?
-No [bleep].
-Yeah.
[Chad] It's like over ten foot
down right in there,
right through the hole.
[Ryan] Man, it's huge.
[Duane]
Finding a man-made box,
this is a whole new ball game.
Now you don't put a box
that deep down in a cave
unless you're trying
to hide something
that's very valuable.
[Chad] Someone put something
right here.
-We're on the spot.
-[Eric] That's awesome.
[laughing]
[Charlie] You know,
all of the stories we hear
about the treasure here,
it really is looking
more like they're real
than just stories.
[Chad] Finally
we [bleeped] did it.
[Chad exclaiming]
[Duane] That's the Chad
I know.
[Chad] Definitely man made.
You could see on the corners.
It's held together with rope.
[Chad] The only thing
I could see inside of there
was rocks.
But it looks like
you could open from the top,
kind of like a lid.
And it had to be, like,
ten foot by ten foot.
I mean, if someone
put it a box down there,
it would have to be
something very important.
Like gold, I would imagine.
We're gonna have to open
this whole thing up.
There's no way we'll come out
of the hole.
We can have
the boys dig it out.
[Duane] Even though
he's a hardheaded [bleep]
I'm so excited
about what Chad did.
The best day of your life
is when your children
become your hero.
It's an honor
for him to be here for me.
It's It's an honor.
[tense music playing]
[Chad] Ah, look at this, 1849.
[men] If any of these
are real, they will be well
over a million dollars.
[tense music playing]
Oh, whoa!
What's this?
Did you hear that?
-Everyone out of here.
-Let's get out of here.
