1 (Jennifer) Audiences are gonna be exposed to something very beautiful, all of our music and all of our culture and all of our passion.
They're gonna see something that they've really never seen before.
[Latin-themed music.]
[People cheering.]
(Male announcer) Marc Anthony (Marc) This is a great opportunity to show the world what Latinos are really about.
(Announcer) Jennifer Lopez (Jennifer) We're going on a hunt to find incredible talent.
(Announcer) Are traveling two continents We're in the jungle, girl.
(Announcer) Looking for the best Latin artists in the world Oh, my God.
That was so awesome.
(Announcer) To bring back to the U.
S.
Team Vato! [Speaking Spanish.]
[All screaming.]
(Announcer) Where they'll fight for a chance This is getting personal.
(Announcer) To be featured in a spectacular Las Vegas show Put together by world-renowned show director Jamie King.
(Jamie) We're actually on the ground in these different countries, searching for talent.
(Announcer) Through thick jungles (Marc) I'm missing my hotel right now.
(Announcer) Treacherous Barrios (Jennifer) It's so dangerous that it's kind of interesting.
(Announcer) And wild crowds Watch the baby.

(Announcer) Nothing will stop their search for the best undiscovered singers [Vocalizing.]
(Announcer) Dancers Troupes, anything breathtaking enough Whoo-hoo.
[Energetic Latin-themed music.]
(announcer) Over the last two weeks, Jennifer and Marc have been traversing two continents in search of artists who embody the spirit of Latin America.
And so far, they've found some incredible talent.
[Vocalizing.]
[Cheering.]
(Announcer) They've all been invited back to Los Angeles, where they'll face Jamie, Jennifer, and Marc together to try out for a place in the live Las Vegas show.
They've only got a couple of weeks left to complete their search, and now it's time for the third leg of their journey to begin.
[Upbeat Latin-themed music.]
(Jennifer) Jamie and I were in Buenos Aires looking for tango dancers.
I'd already invited two pairs, so I had very high standards.
That's the goal of the show, is to expose people to the authenticity of what Latin culture is.
Um, and so it's very important that everything that we bring back is not a watered-down, processed version of what Americans or the rest of the world think Argentinean tango is.
We'd invited two of the city's top tango duets to come and try out for the show.
[Tango music.]
(Jennifer) First pair to take the floor were Marco and Louise.
Hello.
Jamie.
Louise.
[Tango music playing.]
Yes.
Wow.
(Jennifer) Then it was Martina and Jose's turn.
[Tango music playing.]
She's captivating, right? She's pulling us into the dance.
Nice.
(Jennifer) Marcos and Louise He was very strong, and he had an intensity that Jamie really liked.
And then I really liked Martina from the other couple.
Her technique was very beautiful.
She had beautiful arms.
I don't know what's gonna happen.
And there's one couple here that we think fits the bill.
So For you And for you.
(Jennifer) When we put them together, I knew that their gut reaction was gonna be, "no, I'm not leaving my partner.
" But I also think it's a great act of love to say to your partner, "go and do it.
"This is a great opportunity for you.
I support you, and I'll be here when you get back.
" I expected that because of our culture.
I know what it is to be loyal.
I know what is family.
(Jennifer) If we were in the states, I might say they're gonna come.
But here, it's different.
It's just different.
And that's a good thing.
[Laughs.]
I heard that you guys tried to split up some dancers, and Jamie was like And they were like, "no, sorry.
" Yeah.
They passed? Yeah, they passed.
If it was me and you, and we were a couple, and we You had an opportunity, I wouldn't want you to miss that opportunity.
You should say, "I'm not going," and I should say, "you should go.
" Right, right, right.
You know, and then together Like you did all the time.
We think about what's best.
Like like you would do all the time.
Yeah, absolutely.

(Marc) I decided to kick off my third week on the road in Puerto Rico.
I was on my way to surprise Christian, the son of famous cuatro player modesto Nieves.
Knowing his father, I was hoping Christian could carry on the family tradition.
[birds chirping.]
[Tuning instrument.]
(Marc) I knew he had the pedigree, but was he really world-class talent like his father? Hey, how are you doing? [Haunting music.]
[laughing.]
Wow.
(Marc) So I found a great Puerto Rican musician to invite to Los Angeles, and he was hoping to do s father proud.
(Announcer) Up next on Q'Viva!, Jennifer and Marc take a ride and compare notes.
[Phone ringing.]
Tell your boyfriend we're talking.
[Laughing.]
Shut up.
Idiot.
[People cheering.]
(Announcer) Things start heating up.
Marc's on a roll.
[Crying out.]
(Announcer) After the craziest audition yet (Jennifer) I can't, I can't.
I can't watch.
(Announcer) Jennifer's ready to call it quits.
Okay, okay! Okay.
[Aggressive drum beats.]
(Marc) Over the next few days, the traveling continued.
I took my search to the sky in Mexico and flew from Mexico city to the village of Bernal.
It's supposed to be a haven of tranquility, but not once we got there.
[People cheering.]
[Screaming.]
(Marc) Then I checked out a couple of local fire jugglers.
In Uruguay, Jennifer discovered a candombe party.
[People cheering.]
[Drum beats.]
Then I moved on to central America, where I met Panamanian dancer Malaika.
[rhythm speeds up.]
[cheers and applause.]
(Jennifer) The range of talent coming to Los Angeles to compete for places in the live show was growing by the day.
[Vocalizing.]
[Vocalizing.]
[Dramatic crescendo.]
[Music stops suddenly.]
(Jennifer) Hoping to join them was singer Claudio Valdez.
[Dramatic guitar chord.]
[Haunting guitar music.]
[people cheering and shouting.]
[Cheers and applause.]
[Cheers and applause.]
(Jennifer) The minute he opened his mouth, I knew that I was gonna take him.
I just walked right up to him and gave him a ticket.
I was like, "I don't even know if you know" "who I am or what we're doing, but you're coming with me.
" He's just really representative of Latino talent right now.
(Announcer) Up next, one dancer with a tragic story.
But is she talented enough to get a ticket? (announcer) Welcome back to Q'Viva!, where the third leg of our talent search is well underway.
[Upbeat Latin-themed music.]
(Marc) I've traveled the world a million times, it seems.
And I haven't seen anything, actually.
I used to tell the same boring story.
Like, "oh, my God, you go to Colombia six times a year.
" "Oh, yeah, you have to try the food at the four seasons.
" It's like, this is really giving me an appetite to to just live it.
I was headed to see a dance troupe called balcon de Los artistas.
Marta Alvarez is the founder and director of the school.
She has dedicated her entire life and all her money to keeping it going.
You know, these people who give their life to art and kids and communities, it's just absolutely wonderful.
[People cheering.]
It's a long shot for the youngsters because I've already sent one Colombian group to Los Angeles, and with their performance, swing Latino set the bar high.
[Cheering.]
[Applause.]
(Marc) The first kids on stage from Barrio Manrique were Jefferson and Daniela.
What I didn't know was that for Daniela, this audition was a chance to escape from a difficult situation at home.
[Upbeat salsa music playing.]
[cheers and applause.]
(Marc) These were my sentimental favorites going in for many reasons.
There's something about meeting Marta and meeting them and where they get this work done.
But I would pass just based on their first performance, because we have a stronger group in swing Latino.
(Marc) Then it was time for the next couple to take the floor.
[Cheers and applause.]
[Energetic salsa music playing.]
[cheering.]
Whoo.
Wow.
[Loud cheering.]
[Loud cheers and applause.]
(Marc) The last performance was absolutely astonishing.
Blown away.
That's, like, a masterful performance.
After seeing just two performances, I had something to say.
[Cheering wildly.]
(Marc) I don't want to risk losing diamonds in the rough by just saying no to the bunch.
The best bet is to bring this troupe back and sift through it.
[Cheers and applause.]
(Marc) David and Maria's routine had persuaded me that all balcones de artistas deserved a shot in Los Angeles.
And I really wanted them to know just how impressed I was.
(Marc) That little girl Spectacular.
Where are you gonna go see a couple that's 20 and 16 that have been dancing seven years together, anywhere on the planet? Um, and we stumbled upon that, and and just It just It it humbled me to the point where I'm I'm not gonna quit looking.
I'm I'm just not.

As Marc and I continue our journey [Upbeat music.]
It's called choque.
She never stops making contact with her ass.
Is that guy-on-guy over there? (Jennifer) In Peru, I was delayed by what looked like a pair of traditional dancers.
[Laughs.]
Oh, my God.
This is hilarious.
[Laughing.]

(Jennifer) And in Mexico, Marc decided to join in the latest fashion trend.
What the [Bleep.]
is that? Dude, they want me to try these on.

(Jennifer) As the sun was setting in Peru, I was on my way to see possibly the strangest set of performers yet.
Oh, my God.
He's got a scissor in his hand, everybody! I mean, to be honest, it's so dangerous that it's kind of interesting.
This is crazy.

[Metal clinking.]
[dramatic drumbeats.]
[Whispering.]
We're going to see the scissor dance.

When I was watching this in the car, I was thinking that this was a little bit of a joke.
But when I saw them just now in person, it's kind of, like, funny, but then it has danger and real acrobatics and real skill.
But I was afraid they were gonna break their faces or their backs or something.
[Laughing.]
I started getting a little bit sick.
Like, "oh, my God," somebody's really gonna get hurt here.
" It's just something that you don't see every day.
Jamie and Marc really should see it at least and then make a decision on whether or not they fit into the show.
[Laughing.]
[Dramatic drumbeats.]

"You're doing what you do at your "At the highest level.
"I do what I do at the highest level.
"And we basically met, and I'm and And there's a way that we can work together.
" (Jennifer) You're so deep.

(Marc) And there was one group she wanted to tell me all about.

Yi-yi-yi-yi-yi! They told us to beware of snakes.

I saw these kids from Guatemala play indigenous music.
I'm really eager to see the drums and touch them and their instruments.
That's right up my alley.

[High-pitched flute and drums playing.]

(Marc) I'm feeling So alive.
I'm feeling alive.
Now it's starting to take shape.
[Music mimicking jungle sounds.]
(Marc) You think you've seen it all, you know, but all is not gulf streams and fancy hotels.
Right now, I'm more hopeful than ever.
I'm more excited about Q'Viva! And And not only what it is, but what it could be.
And I think I'm in the middle of something really, really, really special.

[Laughing.]
(Marc) I knew I'd learn I knew I would learn about culture.
You know, you think you've seen it all, you know.
But I think that what's happening in me is just I don't just want to learn.
I have this longing to live it and be it.

(Jennifer) As Heverton played at a local coffee shop, I had just arrived to surprise him.

We found somebody who is talented enough to transcend language.
I didn't even know what he was saying, and he was giving me goose bumps.
The only kind of thing that I have with him is he's the guy with the guitar, you know, and how that's gonna play in a live show, where you just can't sit there and, you know, on a stool with your guitar, that you have to move around.

(Jennifer) So Heverton was representing Brazil in the next round in Los Angeles.

Oh, my God, there's another guy that I saw who's a singer, a Brazilian.
We went to see him at this, like, little bar, and he was singing there, and he really moved the crowd.
He picked me up and threw me around a couple times.
He was a big spinner.
[Laughs.]
He's big on the spinnage? (Jennifer) He's big on the pick-up and the turn.
[Laughs.]
I love a good grab and spin.
I'm not mad at it.

(Marc) My next act was from Honduras.
When I saw Chante and her Garifuna dance group on my playbook, I was very intrigued.
It's raw.
It's it's primal.
It's it's real and And definitely something to celebrate.

For some reason, today I feel like I'm going to Experience things I've never experienced.
[Beads clinking.]

(Jennifer) Two more talented acts had just been invited to Los Angeles Yeah! (Jennifer) Where they'd try out for a place in the cast of the live Vegas show.
[All cheering.]

(Jennifer) In Santiago, I was on my way to surprise two sisters.
[Singing in Spanish.]
She's talented, but she doesn't She's she has such bad habits.
[Woman singing on playbook.]
The little sister has a more natural voice.
She sings more naturally.
It sounds like they're both used to singing for people.
We'll see how they both do under pressure in front of somebody who can give 'em an opportunity.
[Speaking Spanish.]
I do like home visits.
It should be them at their most relaxed.
Okay, let's go see these girls.
[Narrator.]
They were both at home with their mother, and they thought they were abouout to receive a visit from a local casting agent.

I've been waiting for this so long, and I love music with all my heart, and it's my dream, and it's been so hard for me because I've been fighting and they've been closing me a lot of doors, and my biggest dream right now is that you would be here in my home in Chile.
I thought that I'd have to go to Hollywood to meet you and everything, you know, and knock on your door and say, "please," "give me an opportunity, because I'm born to do this.
I've got a fire here in my heart.
" [Crying.]

She's been working at this for a long time.
Her mother keeps telling her to get a job, and she just can't give it up, and and I understand that.
The younger sister actually sings more naturally.
This is what's hard about coming into people's houses is that you've got to tell them no in their living room.

(Jennifer) So it was good news for Barbara, but Tamara was going to be left behind.
(Jennifer) And over the next couple of days, we were forced to break more hearts.
In Puerto Rico, I had bad news for a young flamenco dancer.
[Speaking Spanish.]

(Jennifer) Marc battled through the paparazzi [Speaking Spanish.]

(Jennifer) To check out a Costa Rican tap group But was left unimpressed.
I'm not crazy about the level of talent.
(Marc) After a promising start, the fourth leg of the journey was getting tough, so I headed back to Medellin to follow up on a playbook plea I couldn't ignore.
[Speaking Spanish.]
[Laughs.]
All right.
We're on our way.
I'm in.
Let's see what you've got.
(Marc) It's even getting hard to go incognito in the Barrio, so I was hoping the locals wouldn't give me away before I could give the performers the surprise of their lives.
Let's see what's going on.
[Fans screaming.]
[Screaming.]

[Laughter.]

When you do something artistic to survive, man You understand? To survive the elements, survive your situation, it just comes from a totally different place.
This is about spirit, this is about culture.
This is what it's all about.
This is where it's at.
We would never have found them if if If if we don't come in and see what's going on.

What they've been able to do in organizing themselves and staying off the streets and just celebrating music, and there There's no way that I wasn't gonna celebrate that.
[Knocking.]

Back in Puerto Rico, I was reconnecting with my roots.
The first time I came to Puerto Rico, I just loved it.
It was so different from being in the Bronx.
Every morning, the rooster would wake us up at, like, 5:00 in the morning.
We're going to see a singer named Hector.
This is almost like a magical place for me, 'cause this is where I'm from.
This is what runs through my veins.
[Knocking.]
Hector? [Laughs.]
[Speaking Spanish.]

We've been on the road for four weeks, searching for talent.

(Announcer) And the constant traveling was starting to take its toll.
We're on our third country in three days.
I'm tired.
I should be in bed.
Um, what country are we in? [snoring.]
(Marc) As I was finishing this leg of the journey, I decided to hit the streets in Mexico city.
[Mariachi music.]
Today's literally more of, like, just a search, look around a couple plazas that where people showcase themselves, and I'm curious as to what might be out there.
[Laughs.]
look at this.
wow.
Awesome.
[speaking Spanish.]
Whoo! Whoo-hoo! Whoa.
yeah, yeah! Whoo! whoo! Whoo! (Marc) Wow.
[Speaking Spanish.]
Wow.
Did you know this? They really embody the spirit of of Of, I think, what I see for the show.
And the little one, he doesn't know his age.
They left him on the streets, and he's I-I and the level of commitment, and I'm I'm gonna go surprise them with with with With their tickets, because I think this is what it's all about.
On the street, we're not gonna find, you know, world class, polished I mean, we're gonna find some diamonds in the rough, and this is definitely diamond in the rough, I think.

(Marc) The little one lives on the street.
He has no home, no family.
He has no idea who he is.
When I gave him the The tickets, it was just you could just feel it coming off their bodies, you know what I mean? You could just feel the energy.
It was like a punch in the face, and I just didn't expect to, you know, get caught up.
[Speaking Spanish.]
It's a lot, you know, so [Sniffs.]

I just [Sighs.]
(Marc) With a chance to rest before the search continued, Jennifer and I met up and had plenty to talk about.
It was the first time that I realized that we are gonna come across unpolished, raw kind of talent.
They had a great spirit, but they were definitely unpolished.
Sometimes it is about that, you know what I mean? Yeah, we want to find the most talented of everybody in the world, and that's our goal, but sometimes it's just about people touching your heart in some way.
(Marc) It was the first time that That I really got choked up, and (Jennifer) You cried? (Marc) I cried, yeah.
Wow.
Yeah.
That's big.
It's huge.
I don't think one of us, for a second, thought of abandoning the project ever because of anything that happened.
It was just how we were gonna do it and how we were gonna get through it.
(Marc) I'm glad we stuck with it.
This is just a testament that it's bigger than all It's bigger than us.
You know what I mean? It's a human thing.
It's a life thing.
It's a legacy thing.
It's a, you know, we were put in a position to do something about it.
(Jennifer) The same reasons we wanted to do it for our family, when we started, are the same reasons that we want to do it for our family now.
Right? [Laughs.]

(announcer) Over the last two weeks, Jennifer and Marc have been traversing two continents in search of artists who embody the spirit of Latin America.
And so far, they've found some incredible talent.
[Vocalizing.]
[Cheering.]
(Announcer) They've all been invited back to Los Angeles, where they'll face Jamie, Jennifer, and Marc together to try out for a place in the live Las Vegas show.
They've only got a couple of weeks left to complete their search, and now it's time for the third leg of their journey to begin.
[Upbeat Latin-themed music.]
(Jennifer) Jamie and I were in Buenos Aires looking for tango dancers.
I'd already invited two pairs, so I had very high standards.
That's the goal of the show, is to expose people to the authenticity of what Latin culture is.
Um, and so it's very important that everything that we bring back is not a watered-down, processed version of what Americans or the rest of the world think Argentinean tango is.
We'd invited two of the city's top tango duets to come and try out for the show.
[Tango music.]
(Jennifer) First pair to take the floor were Marco and Louise.
Hello.
Jamie.
Louise.
[Tango music playing.]
Yes.
Wow.
(Jennifer) Then it was Martina and Jose's turn.
[Tango music playing.]
She's captivating, right? She's pulling us into the dance.
Nice.
(Jennifer) Marcos and Louise He was very strong, and he had an intensity that Jamie really liked.
And then I really liked Martina from the other couple.
Her technique was very beautiful.
She had beautiful arms.
I don't know what's gonna happen.
And there's one couple here that we think fits the bill.
So For you And for you.
(Jennifer) When we put them together, I knew that their gut reaction was gonna be, "no, I'm not leaving my partner.
" But I also think it's a great act of love to say to your partner, "go and do it.
"This is a great opportunity for you.
I support you, and I'll be here when you get back.
" I expected that because of our culture.
I know what it is to be loyal.
I know what is family.
(Jennifer) If we were in the states, I might say they're gonna come.
But here, it's different.
It's just different.
And that's a good thing.
[Laughs.]
I heard that you guys tried to split up some dancers, and Jamie was like And they were like, "no, sorry.
" Yeah.
They passed? Yeah, they passed.
If it was me and you, and we were a couple, and we You had an opportunity, I wouldn't want you to miss that opportunity.
You should say, "I'm not going," and I should say, "you should go.
" Right, right, right.
You know, and then together Like you did all the time.
We think about what's best.
Like like you would do all the time.

(Marc) I decided to kick off my third week on the road in Puerto Rico.
I was on my way to surprise Christian, the son of famous cuatro player modesto Nieves.
Knowing his father, I was hoping Christian could carry on the family tradition.
[birds chirping.]
[Tuning instrument.]
(Marc) I knew he had the pedigree, but was he really world-class talent like his father? Hey, how are you doing? [Haunting music.]
[laughing.]
Wow.
(Marc) So I found a great Puerto Rican musician to invite to Los Angeles, and he was hoping to do s father proud.
(Announcer) Up next on Q'Viva!, Jennifer and Marc take a ride and compare notes.
[Phone ringing.]

(Announcer) Things start heating up.

(Marc) Over the next few days, the traveling continued.
I took my search to the sky in Mexico and flew from Mexico city to the village of Bernal.
It's supposed to be a haven of tranquility, but not once we got there.
[People cheering.]
[Screaming.]
(Marc) Then I checked out a couple of local fire jugglers.
In Uruguay, Jennifer discovered a candombe party.
[People cheering.]
[Drum beats.]
Then I moved on to central America, where I met Panamanian dancer Malaika.
[rhythm speeds up.]
[cheers and applause.]
(Jennifer) The range of talent coming to Los Angeles to compete for places in the live show was growing by the day.
[Vocalizing.]
[Vocalizing.]
[Dramatic crescendo.]
[Music stops suddenly.]
(Jennifer) Hoping to join them was singer Claudio Valdez.
[Dramatic guitar chord.]
[Haunting guitar music.]
[people cheering and shouting.]

(Jennifer) The minute he opened his mouth, I knew that I was gonna take him.
I just walked right up to him and gave him a ticket.
I was like, "I don't even know if you know" "who I am or what we're doing, but you're coming with me.
" He's just really representative of Latino talent right now.
(Announcer) Up next, one dancer with a tragic story.
But is she talented enough to get a ticket? (announcer) Welcome back to Q'Viva!, where the third leg of our talent search is well underway.

(Marc) I've traveled the world a million times, it seems.
And I haven't seen anything, actually.
I used to tell the same boring story.
Like, "oh, my God, you go to Colombia six times a year.
" "Oh, yeah, you have to try the food at the four seasons.
" It's like, this is really giving me an appetite to to just live it.
I was headed to see a dance troupe called balcon de Los artistas.
Marta Alvarez is the founder and director of the school.
She has dedicated her entire life and all her money to keeping it going.
You know, these people who give their life to art and kids and communities, it's just absolutely wonderful.
[People cheering.]
It's a long shot for the youngsters because I've already sent one Colombian group to Los Angeles, and with their performance, swing Latino set the bar high.
[Cheering.]
[Applause.]
(Marc) The first kids on stage from Barrio Manrique were Jefferson and Daniela.
What I didn't know was that for Daniela, this audition was a chance to escape from a difficult situation at home.
[Upbeat salsa music playing.]
[cheers and applause.]
(Marc) These were my sentimental favorites going in for many reasons.
There's something about meeting Marta and meeting them and where they get this work done.
But I would pass just based on their first performance, because we have a stronger group in swing Latino.
(Marc) Then it was time for the next couple to take the floor.
[Cheers and applause.]
[Energetic salsa music playing.]
[cheering.]
Whoo.
Wow.
[Loud cheering.]
[Loud cheers and applause.]
(Marc) The last performance was absolutely astonishing.
Blown away.
That's, like, a masterful performance.
After seeing just two performances, I had something to say.
[Cheering wildly.]
(Marc) I don't want to risk losing diamonds in the rough by just saying no to the bunch.
The best bet is to bring this troupe back and sift through it.
[Cheers and applause.]
(Marc) David and Maria's routine had persuaded me that all balcones de artistas deserved a shot in Los Angeles.
And I really wanted them to know just how impressed I was.
(Marc) That little girl Spectacular.
Where are you gonna go see a couple that's 20 and 16 that have been dancing seven years together, anywhere on the planet? Um, and we stumbled upon that, and and just It just It it humbled me to the point where I'm I'm not gonna quit looking.

I started getting a little bit sick.
Like, "oh, my God," somebody's really gonna get hurt here.
" It's just something that you don't see every day.
Jamie and Marc really should see it at least and then make a decision on whether or not they fit into the show.

The only kind of thing that I have with him is he's the guy with the guitar, you know, and how that's gonna play in a live show, where you just can't sit there and, you know, on a stool with your guitar, that you have to move around.

(Jennifer) So Heverton was representing Brazil in the next round in Los Angeles.

Oh, my God, there's another guy that I saw who's a singer, a Brazilian.
We went to see him at this, like, little bar, and he was singing there, and he really moved the crowd.
He picked me up and threw me around a couple times.
He was a big spinner.

He's big on the spinnage? (Jennifer) He's big on the pick-up and the turn.
[Laughs.]
I love a good grab and spin.
I'm not mad at it.

When I saw Chante and her Garifuna dance group on my playbook, I was very intrigued.
It's raw.
It's it's primal.
It's it's real and And definitely something to celebrate.

(Jennifer) In Santiago, I was on my way to surprise two sisters.

She's talented, but she doesn't She's she has such bad habits.

The little sister has a more natural voice.
She sings more naturally.
It sounds like they're both used to singing for people.
We'll see how they both do under pressure in front of somebody who can give 'em an opportunity.

They were both at home with their mother, and they thought they were abouout to receive a visit from a local casting agent.

I've been waiting for this so long, and I love music with all my heart, and it's my dream, and it's been so hard for me because I've been fighting and they've been closing me a lot of doors, and my biggest dream right now is that you would be here in my home in Chile.
I thought that I'd have to go to Hollywood to meet you and everything, you know, and knock on your door and say, "please," "give me an opportunity, because I'm born to do this.

Her mother keeps telling her to get a job, and she just can't give it up, and and I understand that.
The younger sister actually sings more naturally.
This is what's hard about coming into people's houses is that you've got to tell them no in their living room.

In Puerto Rico, I had bad news for a young flamenco dancer.

(Jennifer) Marc battled through the paparazzi [Speaking Spanish.]

(Jennifer) To check out a Costa Rican tap group But was left unimpressed.
I'm not crazy about the level of talent.
(Marc) After a promising start, the fourth leg of the journey was getting tough, so I headed back to Medellin to follow up on a playbook plea I couldn't ignore.

(Marc) It's even getting hard to go incognito in the Barrio, so I was hoping the locals wouldn't give me away before I could give the performers the surprise of their lives.

Back in Puerto Rico, I was reconnecting with my roots.
The first time I came to Puerto Rico, I just loved it.
It was so different from being in the Bronx.
Every morning, the rooster would wake us up at, like, 5:00 in the morning.
We're going to see a singer named Hector.
This is almost like a magical place for me, 'cause this is where I'm from.
This is what runs through my veins.
[Knocking.]

(Announcer) And the constant traveling was starting to take its toll.
We're on our third country in three days.
I'm tired.
I should be in bed.
Um, what country are we in? [snoring.]
(Marc) As I was finishing this leg of the journey, I decided to hit the streets in Mexico city.
[Mariachi music.]
Today's literally more of, like, just a search, look around a couple plazas that where people showcase themselves, and I'm curious as to what might be out there.
[Laughs.]

Did you know this? They really embody the spirit of of Of, I think, what I see for the show.
And the little one, he doesn't know his age.
They left him on the streets, and he's I-I and the level of commitment, and I'm I'm gonna go surprise them with with with With their tickets, because I think this is what it's all about.
On the street, we're not gonna find, you know, world class, polished I mean, we're gonna find some diamonds in the rough, and this is definitely diamond in the rough, I think.

(Marc) The little one lives on the street.
He has no home, no family.
He has no idea who he is.
When I gave him the The tickets, it was just you could just feel it coming off their bodies, you know what I mean? You could just feel the energy.
It was like a punch in the face, and I just didn't expect to, you know, get caught up.

It's a lot, you know, so [Sniffs.]

(Marc) With a chance to rest before the search continued, Jennifer and I met up and had plenty to talk about.
It was the first time that I realized that we are gonna come across unpolished, raw kind of talent.
They had a great spirit, but they were definitely unpolished.
Sometimes it is about that, you know what I mean? Yeah, we want to find the most talented of everybody in the world, and that's our goal, but sometimes it's just about people touching your heart in some way.
(Marc) It was the first time that That I really got choked up, and (Jennifer) You cried? (Marc) I cried, yeah.
Wow.
Yeah.
That's big.
It's huge.
I don't think one of us, for a second, thought of abandoning the project ever because of anything that happened.
It was just how we were gonna do it and how we were gonna get through it.
(Marc) I'm glad we stuck with it.
This is just a testament that it's bigger than all It's bigger than us.
You know what I mean? It's a human thing.
It's a life thing.
It's a legacy thing.
It's a, you know, we were put in a position to do something about it.
(Jennifer) The same reasons we wanted to do it for our family, when we started, are the same reasons that we want to do it for our family now.
Right? [Laughs.]
