Spirit Riding Free (2017) s01e02 Episode Script

Lucky and the Treacherous Trail

1 [whinnying.]
[horse chuffs.]
[theme music playing.]
I'm gonna ride I'm riding free So come along, let's go along Come on the journey with me I'm gonna ride I'm riding free As long as I am here with you I feel the spirit within me - Yeah, eh, eh - Yeah, eh, eh, eh - Yeah, eh, eh - Yeah, eh, eh, eh Yeah, eh, eh Yeah, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh -Yeah! -Whoo-hoo! -Come on! -Do it, Boomerang! -Come on, Chica Linda.
-Faster, come on! [horse neighs.]
Try and keep up, city girl! [whinnies and chuffs.]
Bet you can't catch me! Come on, Spirit! [Spirit whinnies.]
[neighs.]
Lucky, stop! Hyah! Come on, Chica Linda.
Let's go! Whoa, Spirit! Hey! What gives? That's Taylor's Trail.
It's really steep.
It's got three tough jumps that are downhill and dangerous.
We almost did it for the Saddle Club ride last year, but it was too hard for some of the riders.
What's the Saddle Club ride? Every year kids from all over get together and go on this super fun group ride into the mountains to have a big picnic.
Oh, my gosh, it's the best! But it can also be really boring.
Wow! When is it? -Oh, who knows? -Saturday! Sorry, Lucky.
We'd love for you to come with us, but you're just not ready for the Saddle Club ride.
[scoffs.]
Not ready? Didn't you see how fast Spirit and I can go? There's a lot more to riding than just going fast.
-I hardly ever fall off him anymore.
-[chuckles.]
That's a start.
But you still have a lot to learn.
Stick with us, and by the time next year's ride rolls around, you'll be ready to take it on.
Sounds good to me.
Last one back has to shovel the barn! -Hyah! -Come on! -Whoo-hoo! -Let's go! That was so fun! I wish we didn't have to stop riding.
We don't! After dinner, let's take a sunset ride up to Pitchfork Canyon.
Ooh, when the sun's going down, it turns the entire valley gold.
-Hey, Turo.
What ya doing? -Hi! I put down fresh hay for Boomerang and Chica Linda.
Did you want me to fix up a stall for Spirit, too? Thanks, but Spirit spends the night out with his herd.
[horse chuffs.]
He would like some oats, though.
I'll be back in half an hour, okay? [chuffs.]
[whinnies.]
[neighing.]
[neighing.]
Aunt Cora, me and Spirit just went on the most amazing ride.
You should see me gallop.
Pru says I've still got a lot to learn, but I-- What's with all the pies? [sighs.]
I don't know if it's the water or the oven or the altitude, but I just can't get a pie to turn out right.
[sniffs.]
Ah.
[groans.]
They'll all look the same in our stomachs.
-[chuffs.]
-[Lucky.]
Hey, fella! Hey, what's going-- Uh-oh! Any chance that was the wind? Termites? Spirit? I don't understand what that wild horse was doing in my barn.
[chuffs.]
-I'm really sorry.
I didn't think-- -None of you were thinking! How could you let this happen, Pru? What did I do? You know this girl doesn't know a hill of beans about horses.
You should have been paying attention.
-You're right.
I'm sorry.
-Me too.
No, Mr.
Granger.
I'm the one who should apologize to all of you.
[whinnies.]
Aw, you thought you were stuck in there all night, didn't you? [whinnies.]
I forgot this is all new to you too.
Forgive me? -[whinnies.]
-[giggles.]
Well, ain't you both a picture? There's a huge hole in my barn! I'll make it right, Mr.
Granger.
I promise! Of course you will! You're gonna fix the hole! All of you! Or you, young lady, will be staying home from the Saddle Club ride.
All right, we've got three days to get this place in shape.
We can do this! Great! And I brought these.
Um, Lucky? This is yellow paint.
I know, but I figured if we're going to fix this place, why not fix it up? [whinnies.]
[Lucky.]
Not a bad start.
Abigail! Abigail Look at the lariat Mom got me for the Saddle Club ride.
[brays.]
It's way better than the one she got you.
You're going on the ride? I thought it was only for advanced riders.
Yeah, like me! I'm six.
Snips, go away! You can't make me.
[excited bray.]
[Snips.]
Señor Carrots, no! Whoa! I'm telling! Sorry.
My brother is such a pest.
I don't get it.
If a little kid like Snips gets to go on the ride, then why can't I? It's not about age.
It's about experience.
Snips has been riding since before he could walk.
He was born in the saddle.
No, seriously.
My mom had him in the middle of a Saddle Club ride six years ago.
It was super embarrassing, but also educational.
Can't you teach me what I need to know so I can go, too? Abigail said you're the best horsewoman in town.
If anyone can do it, it's you.
-Hmm, this is true.
-This is a great idea! If we can get Lucky ready, she can come on the ride with us! Unless, she does all that work and still isn't ready in time and falls behind the trail and gets kidnapped by bandits who take her into a hideaway and force her to become a bandit, too! Then she robs us! This is a terrible idea! Well, she's gonna need to learn jumping and all that stuff anyway.
She is.
So why not learn it now? There are two things you need to learn: jumps and basic horse commands.
I've set up a course to practice.
If you can get through it, you'll be ready for anything the Saddle Club throws at you.
Now, head on over to the starting line and let's see what you can do.
[whinnies.]
I'm feeling really good about this! Ahh! [both.]
Ooh [straining.]
Oh, boy.
She can't mount without a fence yet? Okay, three things you need to work on.
There won't always be something around for you to climb on, so you need to learn to mount from the ground.
Easy! I'm strong.
I'll just pull myself up.
[grunting.]
[sighs.]
[chuffs.]
Hmm.
Try jumping on him instead.
[grunts.]
I think you need to jump higher.
[grunts.]
-Whoa! -[both shudder.]
[grunts.]
[growls in frustration.]
I know! If I never get off Spirit, I won't have to get on him.
-Problem solved.
-Don't worry, Lucky.
It's hard for everyone.
Like the wind, Señor Carrots! Like the wind! Next lesson.
Spirit's galloping, and you need to stop suddenly.
-What do you do? -Oh, no! It's a surprise cliff! Stop! [grunts.]
[neighing.]
Aah! I'm okay! Okay, this one's it! I know I've said that before, but I've got a feeling.
Go, Lucky, go.
Okay, 26th time's a charm.
Whoa, Spirit! [chuffs.]
[Abigail.]
Yay, Lucky! [Pru.]
You did it! [Mr.
Granger.]
Is this whole course for Lucky? In a way, you could say it's for everybody who wants to learn.
But in another way, it's for Lucky.
You better not be filling that girl's head with stars, Pru.
You have better sense than that.
And shouldn't you be fixin' the barn? You're cutting it close if you want to go on that ride.
I've got it, Dad.
Everything's under control.
Everything's under control.
Mm-hmm.
[Pru laughs.]
A big part of riding is taking care of your tack.
-Spirit doesn't use tack.
-[Pru.]
Maybe he should.
A saddle would make jumping a lot easier.
I don't think Spirit is going to want to wear a saddle.
Since we only have two days left to practice [neighs.]
One day.
I don't think she's ready.
Well, sure, not yet.
But we still have tomorrow.
To learn how to jump? Pru, there's no way! [Lucky grunts.]
I got this.
She'll be ready.
[Lucky.]
No, actually, I don't! Help! [Lucky.]
Wow! Those look great! Do you want to make one for Spirit? No point.
He won't stay inside.
[grunts.]
-Huh! -[Spirit whinnies.]
Are you after my oats, horse? [laughs.]
Lucky, that crazy horse of yours is outside.
My barn! Okay.
I reckon you can go on your ride.
Sorry.
I guess your dad is still mad.
Are you kidding? That's the highest praise you can get from my dad! Inside, he was like, Ooh, ooh, I love the barn, love the barn Love the barn, ooh, ooh, ooh [laughing.]
The most important thing you need as a rider is confidence.
Once you commit to a jump, you can't hesitate.
You have to trust your horse to take you through the course.
I do trust Spirit.
Good! We'll start with a small jump.
Now, remember to lean forward and relax.
[whinnies.]
[whimpers.]
[neighs.]
Okay, good, only this time when you lean forward and relax, try leaning forward and relaxing.
-[chuffs and whinnies.]
-Hyah! [Pru.]
Come on, Lucky.
Try it again! [grunts.]
Whoo! -[laughs.]
-Yeah, Lucky! This is it! The ride's tomorrow.
If you can make it over that last jump, you'll be ready.
[chuffs.]
[Lucky grunts.]
I think she's gonna do it! [whimpers.]
Whoa, Spirit! Whoa! -[neighs.]
-[grunts.]
[both gasp.]
I couldn't do it.
It was just too high.
It's okay.
You worked really hard.
It just takes time to get confident jumping a horse.
Maybe if I was with the rest of the Saddle Club If you can't jump here, there's just no way you'll be able to jump there.
[sighs.]
But just think how good you'll be by next year.
Well, thanks for helping me try.
You guys are good friends.
Have fun on the ride tomorrow.
[chuffs.]
[grunts.]
I can't do this! It's too hard! Everything here is too hard! Lucky! What kind of attitude is that? -A bad one.
-Nonsense.
You're a Prescott, and Prescotts don't quit! We keep at it until we've mastered what we've started, and we have a beautiful pie for supper.
Wow! I can't believe you kept trying after you made all those awful pies! And so many of them! But you didn't give up! No, I certainly did not.
Then I won't give up either! -Thanks, Aunt Cora.
-Oh! You're welcome.
Wait.
Where are you going? [Lucky.]
To be a Prescott! [whinnies.]
Come on, Spirit.
We're so close! If we can just make that last jump, -we can go on the ride.
-[chuffs.]
-Ready? -[neighs.]
No, not ready! [gasps and screams.]
[neighs.]
[gasps.]
[sighs.]
[whistling.]
Uh-oh.
Pru! You're in big trouble, missy.
-It's not her fault, Mr.
Granger.
-[scoffs.]
I told you a million times, you are responsible for this girl.
And because you weren't watching out for her, my fence is now a gate! But I wasn't even here! How is it my fault? You let her think she'd be able to learn a lifetime of riding in three days! You know better than that.
I just wanted her to be able to come on the Saddle Club ride with us.
Oh, you're not going on any ride.
[gasps.]
That's not fair! The barn is fixed! And my fence is broke! You're grounded from the ride, and that's final.
Now get this fence back up.
[sighs.]
I expected better from you, Pru.
I am so, so, so sorry! What were you doing here? I thought we agreed you weren't ready! [stammers.]
I know, but I was practicing, and I was so close.
And you hesitated, right? Because you're not ready, Lucky! Like I told you! And now my dad's mad at me, and I'm gonna miss the Saddle Club ride.
I know, and I'm really sorry! I feel terrible! I'll help you fix it.
You've done enough helping for one day.
How many times do I have to say I'm sorry? I'm sorry about your fence.
I'm sorry you can't go on the ride.
I'm sorry I got you in trouble.
Well, I'm sorry you don't know how to ride a horse! Oh, I know how to ride a horse! [grunts.]
Yeah, Lucky.
You're a natural.
Uh I just can't believe her.
Telling me what to do.
[nickers.]
-Hyah! -[neighs.]
[Snips.]
Now who's ready for the ride of a lifetime? [boy.]
Let's go! [Snips.]
Hope you guys like donkey butt! -[boys cheering.]
-[Abigail crying.]
-Abigail.
-Ow.
Why aren't you on the Saddle Club ride? I wasn't gonna go without my friends! The whole point was to do it together.
[sighs.]
Lucky really messed things up for all of us.
-What? -You're being a little unfair to Lucky.
Unfair? Did you see what she did to my fence? It was an accident.
You wouldn't even listen to her apology.
Ow! Quit it, Boomerang.
[whinnies.]
Lucky did everything you asked her to.
She tried as hard as she could.
Well, I tried as hard as I could, too.
I know.
But remember, Lucky's new at all of this.
It's gonna take time.
And as her friends, we have to give it to her.
[grunts.]
[neighs.]
- Pru thinks she's so good at everything.
-[nickers.]
She's not the president of horses.
Let's show 'em what we can do! [whinnies.]
Hyah! Ha! See? This isn't so hard! [chuffs.]
[whimpers.]
Aah! [gasps.]
Whoa, boy.
Whoa! [neighs.]
They were right.
I'm not ready for this.
I can't do it.
I can't do it.
It's too hard.
It's too high! This is terrible! I've gotta get down! -[neighs.]
-Whoa! Ah.
Ah! Whoa.
Oh, why didn't I listen to Pru? I don't know how to ride a horse.
I've gotta walk.
[neighs.]
No, it's too high! [neighs.]
Uh! Aah! [neighs.]
[screams, grunts.]
[nickers.]
[panting and crying.]
[winces.]
Are you hurt? Oh, Spirit.
I'm so sorry, boy.
Can you walk? [nickers.]
[Spirit whinnies.]
Lucky! [gasps.]
What happened? I-I took Spirit down that trail you said was too hard.
I wanted to prove that we could, but I hesitated.
And I hurt Spirit! Where's he hurt? Here, his leg.
I was mad and only thinking about myself.
It's okay.
He sprained it.
But he'll be fine after a good night's sleep.
Really? [nickers.]
Let's get him inside so he can rest.
[gasps.]
This is wonderful! Only you know Spirit won't let himself be shut in.
He won't have to be! Now Spirit can come and go whenever he wants! [nickers.]
I can't believe you did this for us.
We just wanted to show you that we-- that I was sorry.
I shouldn't have gotten so mad.
I'm sorry too.
I should have trusted Spirit and you.
But I'm going to keep working on it.
We'll be here for you, Lucky.
No matter how long it takes.
Aww! [nickers.]
Hey, you! Feeling better? [whinnies and chuffs.]
[laughs.]
You up for a ride? [grunts.]
[sighs.]
[whinnies.]
[chuffs.]
[grunts.]
We'll still take it easy today.
There's no rush.
[neighs.]
