The Great Escape (2012) s01e02 Episode Script
Escape From the USS Hornet
[ Tires screech .]
Tonight, locked inside this floating city made of steel, three teams will compete to be the first to break out of their nautical prison, navigate the complex passageways of this ship, and complete their mission to find me and win "The Great Escape.
" This is my best friend, Victor.
This is my best friend, Armando.
We're from Miami, Florida.
We both play college baseball.
I'm confident in whatever comes our way just because I know that we're both athletes.
I trust Armando because I know he's a smart dude.
How competitive am I? All I do is win.
[ Laughs .]
My name is Tim, and this is my daughter, McKenna.
She's my pride and joy, and she's just about to graduate from college.
McKenna: I chose my dad as a partner because he's, like, extremely competitive and really smart.
And even though he's kind of, like, a dad age, he's really athletic.
We're gonna fight to win.
My name is Sal.
My name is Jeanan.
Brother.
Sister.
I think the biggest thing to overcome is her being able to trust me because I am younger than her.
Like, look at her now.
She's just like, "what?" [ Laughs .]
He may have more schooling, but I have a little bit more common sense.
[ Laughs .]
Tonight, one team is going to defy the odds and manage to escape this behemoth vessel and ultimately to freedom.
Guards, remove their blindfolds.
Tim: When the blindfold came off, I looked around.
Eisen: Welcome to the u.
s.
hornet, one of America's most legendary aircraft carriers.
Weighing 27,000 tons and spanning a distance of 872 feet, it can house up to 2,600 crew and 100 aircraft.
And you'll start in the detainment zone, locked in every sailor's nightmare, the brig.
There, you will find a map that will help you plan your escape.
You'll work your way through four stages.
Now, at each stage, you'll have to overcome a challenge.
It could be a mental or physical challenge.
It might involve finding hidden objects or even solving some puzzles.
You cannot proceed to the next stage until you've successfully completed that challenge and found a piece of "The Great Escape" key.
This key consists of four interlocking pieces.
One piece is hidden within each stage.
Once all four pieces are found and the key is assembled, only then will my whereabouts be revealed.
Now, at various points during your escape, you may encounter patrolling guards.
If you're caught, you will be escorted back to the detainment zone, the brig, where you'll have to escape and return to the game where you were captured.
After completing the four stages, your final hurdle is the transport zone.
The first team that gets to me with the completed "great escape" key will unlock the box and instantly become $100,000 richer.
[ Cheers and applause .]
Oh, my God.
That is a substantial amount of money.
I mean, that can make a real difference.
I got student loans to pay off.
Let's go out and get it.
Remember, this escape-route map is the key to your escape.
Guards, lock them up.
[ Alarm blares .]
Jeanan: [ Screams .]
That floor just dropped.
Boof! I had no clue what was going on.
Jeanan: My heart and everything that was up here literally came down here [laughing.]
And I had to pick it back up for a second.
I was so scared.
Sal: I knew from that minute, you better be ready for everything because you don't know what's coming.
Eisen: The teams are being taken to the detainment zone.
At the sound of the alarm, the escape is on.
The anxiety at that point, the anxiousness.
Victor: Everything we've talked about, we have to put it on the line right here.
[ Alarm blares .]
Okay, go.
Find it.
Sal: So the first thing I do was check the lock, and I'm like, "okay, this is a real lock.
" I can't break it open.
And we start looking around the room for the map.
We tore apart that room from top to bottom.
Oh, and that room was tiny.
We couldn't make a move without elbowing each other.
Armando: Watch your nuts.
[ Chuckles .]
Tim: Pull.
Anything? Anything? McKenna: What the hell? Victor: We got to think outside the box here, man.
Where else could it be? Where haven't we looked? Oh [Bleep.]
We're searching high, low, everywhere for a tool to open up our door.
Sal.
What? Sal, take this.
Yes! I took the wire.
Okay, what can be the options here? I just close my eyes for a second.
I open them.
It was like You don't see it? Right there in front of our faces.
They're bolt cutters.
I made a little loop like a lasso boom! Dad, feel up there.
Okay.
All over.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Oh, oh, hold on.
Victor: It looked like a piece of the wall, but I felt it, and it felt like cardboard.
There we go.
Jeanan: You got it, babe.
[ Buzzer sounds .]
Somebody's out.
Go.
Blue team has escaped detainment zone.
You guys got all the muscle, not the brains, green team.
Armando: The second he said that, I said, "yes, I get to beat somebody today and then point and laugh.
" Use that, use that.
Sal: There it is, right there.
Stage 1 that's on the third deck.
We go up one.
Victor: Come on.
Oh, oh.
Oh, come on.
Just a little more.
Just a little more.
Dude, cut that.
Jeanan: Go, sal.
Go, go, go, baby, go.
Armando: Let's go! [ Buzzer sounds .]
Map, map.
Victor: Grab the map.
Green team has escaped detainment zone.
Tim: Okay, we're stupid.
We missed it somehow.
Tim: We could not find that stinking map.
We're not even out of the chute.
I mean, we're stuck.
Tim: Where the heck it's not under here.
Where's the map? There's nothing up here.
We're gonna sit in here for the entire game.
Sal: Go straight to that tank.
Victor: It's all the way on the side of the boat in the third deck.
Eisen: So far, the blue team and the green team have escaped the detainment zone with their map and are headed to stage 1, but the red team is still locked in the brig, searching for their map.
Tim: We are falling so far behind.
First the blue team got out, and then the green team got out.
And we still haven't even found the map, let alone even escaped out of the cage that we were in.
I just don't see what we could have possibly missed.
The other teams opened their locks.
Just open the lock.
Tim: Okay, look for a wire.
It's right here.
Oh, this is it.
This is the ballast tank? Yes, this is it.
Okay.
This is the ballast tank, stage 1 of our contestants' race to freedom.
This tank contains one key for each team that, when successfully retrieved, will open a very important locker.
In that locker is a hand pulley and the first piece of "The Great Escape" key.
Ready? What are we looking for, sal? Sal, talk to me.
What are we looking for? We got to go in here.
For what? I got to get the key.
I'll guide you.
Oh, freezing! Shh! Sal, look all the way back there underneath that duct.
I dive into the water, and my body is just immediately in shock.
It was just like [Breathing heavily.]
[ Breathing heavily .]
It's freezing in here.
One, two, three.
Tim: [ Grunts .]
Did we get it? Yeah.
Tim: Oh, my God.
It won't come off.
We got to cut the other side now.
Get the thing back.
I got it, I got it.
Tim: We were never gonna get out of there.
We were just stupid.
You're gonna have to go higher.
Ballast tank.
There it is.
Come on, come on, come on.
Sal: I finally find the key, and my fingers are going bad.
I'm like, "here, jeanan, take the key and start working.
Start working on getting the lockers open.
" Victor: Armando, over here! You got it? Over here.
Armando: We get to stage 1.
The blue team was already there.
Victor: The blue team was there, and we're trying to decide who's gonna jump in.
And I said it out loud.
I said, "Armando, get wet.
I don't want to get wet.
" Better look at this.
This is cold, bro.
Victor: Dude, go underwater.
Underwater? Yeah, go underwater.
Go underwater.
Armando: I'm freezing.
I think my nipples could have cut diamonds at that point.
[ Breathing heavily .]
Sal: The fifth lock, we got it.
We got our locker opened.
We get our new clothes.
Jeanan: We find a pulley.
And we got our first "great escape" key.
I'm like, "that's it.
We're making great time.
" Everything keep everything.
Tim: Oh, there we go! We're out! [ Buzzer sounds .]
Oh, my God.
[ Indistinct shouting .]
Hurry! Get your shoes on.
Wait.
We don't know where to go.
Sal, this bag's really heavy.
I have to hand it to you.
Okay, look around.
The map's got to be here somewhere.
Blue team has completed stage 1.
[ Groans .]
I don't feel like it's in here, though, dad, to be honest.
Okay, but where is it? Jeanan: Sal, where are we going? Eisen: As they make their way to the next stage, each team will encounter a grate that they must break through and then use tools around them to open one of three brig doors.
Go that way.
Go that way.
Go straight.
Go straight.
No, no.
Yeah, sal, I told you it's the same thing.
I'm sure there's something over here.
Nothing.
It's a dead end, too.
All right.
Okay.
Sal: We get into the room, and there's three different routes, and all we see is grates.
There has to be a tool for this.
Let's figure it out real quick, let's keep our lead, and let's keep it going.
These are little screws.
Look for something around here.
Quick! Okay, but you got to tell me what to look for.
Something that's gonna take it off a Ratchet, something.
[ Breathing heavily .]
Armando: Underwater, I couldn't see a thing.
I finally feel something.
I'm just praying and hoping, "please be a key.
" Go, come on, come on, go, go, go! Come on, come on.
Let's go, let's go.
It's like the heavens open up and Jesus himself came down and said, "there it is.
" Got it.
Change, change, change.
Go, go.
Quick, quick, quick.
McKenna: We are totally doing something very wrong.
Or this could be like a false wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
Are you serious? Yes.
Whoa! The red team has escaped detainment zone.
It's like a false wall.
That never occurred to me.
No, not at all.
It was just sheer luck that we ended up stumbling upon it.
We need to go to stage 1.
Stage 1 is the ballast tank.
Green team has completed stage 1.
We got to get out of here before they even get here.
If they don't see us, they don't know.
Let's go.
Quick, quick, quick, quick.
McKenna: You know what we're doing this one, right? Yep.
Good.
Looking for a key.
McKenna: We got to stage 1, and I was like, "I am not going in the water.
" You can do it.
You got it.
Just go.
You're the best swimmer here.
Whoo! Tim: That water was cold.
It had to have been like 55 degrees.
Whoo-hoo! Oh! I think you have to go underwater, dad.
I think you're right.
Okay, then just do it so we don't fall farther behind.
Go, go, go, go.
Oh, there they are.
Eisen: The red team is still trying to complete stage 1 while the green team is entering the transition to stage 2 and has caught up to the blue team.
Torpedo room.
Wait.
Maybe we have to go over this.
We knew we had to somehow get through.
I think there's screws, man.
We need to find a tool.
It's got to be underwater, dad, somewhere.
Come on.
Tim: I actually opened my eyes to try and look around.
I couldn't see.
So I'm, like, you know, with my hands on the bottom.
After some searching, I actually found it.
There.
Go.
Come on.
Get dressed.
I'm getting dressed.
My clothes, dad.
She's yelling at me to hurry up and get the clothes on.
Took forever.
Let's go.
Red team has completed stage 1.
Sal: This is gonna kill me.
I swear to goodness, if we get stuck in here One, two, three.
[ Both grunt .]
Victor: We were trying to use the pulley.
We put it over a hole in the wall and tried to yank it, but the angle was just not right.
We had to find another way.
Go faster.
Oh, my God.
They're here.
They're here.
Everyone's here.
We've caught up.
[ Indistinct conversations .]
This is our path, our way out.
It says torpedo room is through here.
How the heck do we get in there? Jeanan: This is killing me, sal.
It's killing you? It's killing me.
McKenna: Oh! There's no pathway through there, is there? I'm not finding anything over here, sal.
There's nothing at all! Sal: We had this, like, great lead.
Red team is now in the same room as us.
Okay, what are we still doing in here? If you could do this by hand, I would love to see it.
I'm just saying, if you could turn it or something like that, sal.
I was feeling around.
It's like, you know, maybe McKenna: Whoo! [ Grate clangs .]
They got through.
They got through.
I'm telling you, they broke it.
Eisen: After falling way behind, the red team has taken the lead and are now in stage 2 while the blue team and green team are still struggling to get past the transition to stage 2.
Okay.
Yeah.
Go, go, go.
Shh! We had just come through that grate.
That was quite a comeback for us.
It was.
We're actually in the lead right now.
Oh, this says, "alarmed door.
" Wait a second.
We got to pull all these at the same time.
There was a note on the door, said all eight had to be pulled simultaneously.
"Do not enter.
" [ Grate clangs .]
Go, go, go, go.
Victor: That gate flew.
Armando: We just took off.
We left the blue team in the dust back there.
Let's go.
Let's go.
Let's go, go, go.
We're chasing the red team.
We had to move.
We're getting to the door.
[ Sighs .]
I go over to the door.
It was a triangle.
Look "use correct tool.
" We need to find the right tool.
There was a big box of tools.
I grabbed the steel knob.
I tried to see if it would fit the triangle.
You know, you kind of just twist it.
It doesn't fit.
Harder, sal.
Sal, get it, get it, get it, get it.
There you go.
You got it.
Go, go, go, go, go, go! Come on, come on, come on! "To operate, use dual release.
" What's the dual release? Sal: I get to the door.
It says "dual release," but I'm like, "dual open.
" I just start shaking it.
[ Thudding .]
I'm gonna break this thing open.
Tim: Oh, wait, wait, wait, wait.
There's wire right here.
Use this wire.
This is the only way we can do all eight at one time.
Good idea.
That was genius.
Yeah, I was thinking, "hey, this is a MacGyver moment.
" No, loop them.
Tie them, like, together.
Here.
No, no.
Unh-unh.
No, you got to use that to go down.
Are these the dual release? Try them.
Yeah, 'cause look, look.
Look, see, I can get those four.
[ Buzzer sounds .]
This one.
[ Laughs .]
We got all those pins to pull out, and then the door opened up.
We actually might be extending our lead at this point if we just don't screw up.
Be careful.
That way.
That way, that way.
This way now.
Through that door, straight back.
Torpedos.
In stage 2, teams will descend among the racks of warheads and use a hand pulley to raise a crate.
Inside, teams will find a wrench, a valve, and the second piece of "The Great Escape" key.
We got to find the crate first.
I know, but where's the crate? It says, "hoist supply crate from torpedo rack.
" Okay, where the heck is this crate? Chain locker.
Maybe it's by the chain locker.
No, got nothing, just file cabinets.
Oh, I found them.
I found it.
I found them.
They're right down there.
Go.
Come on, let's go.
McKenna: Two stories down, there were three crates sitting there.
Tim: Get down there quickly.
You got to hook it up.
I'm going, I'm going, I'm going.
It's coming down.
Go.
Hook it.
Okay, get out of the way.
I'm gonna start pulling.
Tim: I kept pulling and pulling and pulling.
The crate wasn't moving very quickly.
We have to hoist it all the way to the top? Yes.
Okay.
I got it.
I got it, I got it, I got it, I got it.
I figured it out.
I figured it out.
Armando: I looked at the triangle.
I looked at that for the first time, and I said, "that is it.
" Got it.
Grab the stuff, grab the stuff, grab the stuff.
Let's go, let's go, let's go.
Go, go, go, go.
Left.
Look at the thing.
See if it pops open.
Nothing.
There are no other teams there to give us a clue or give us an idea 'cause we're completely separated from them now.
We're looking for two things that are gonna trigger opening this door.
There has to be something that we're not even looking.
It's gonna be something so stupid.
All right, go this way.
Go, go, go, go, go.
Go, go, go, go.
It's at the end.
Think it's at the end.
Do we need a key? No, we undo this.
Armando: Shh! Go, go, go, go.
What's this? It just was sitting there.
Yeah, give it.
Give it, give it here.
McKenna: There was an ax right there, and he just starts wailing the hell out of it.
Okay.
How do we open this? Pry the top off.
It's just nailed shut.
Never done thbefore.
Oh, my goodness! Look, look, yeah, yeah.
I can feel it opening.
Check the door, check the door, check the door.
McKenna: Green team's here! The green team was arriving as we were picking up the stuff out of the crate.
We don't have a big lead, but we're still in front.
Dad, this is it.
We got a wrench, a valve Oh, that's it.
That's it.
and the key.
Okay, cool.
Let's go.
Oh, Armando, there it is.
Chain locker this way.
Red team has completed stage 2.
They're gonna kick our ass.
What is that? I don't know.
Where does it lead to? Oh, my God.
[ Exhales sharply .]
We can't even open a damn door.
Sal: There was a yellow and black sprinkler system-type thing.
I'm like, "all right.
" I started tracing it.
It's leading to that door.
This has to be it.
[ Click .]
There it is.
Look at the first lock.
The first lock's going.
The first part of the lock, you're seeing it come out.
Look for the second knob like this.
Look at the wires.
It's right here, sal.
Find it? Turn it.
Pull down and turn it to unlock it [ click .]
All the way down.
That's it.
Grab the bag.
Come on.
Grab the green one.
We're rushing.
We're trying to get to stage 2.
Get the map.
I have it.
It's right here.
Let me see.
Let me see.
Here.
Tim: "Chain locker through the hangar deck.
" Okay, be quiet, be really quiet.
Eisen: The hangar deck the only path to stage 3.
Guards are patrolling on a regular rotation.
If caught by one of them, a team must drop everything but the map and go straight to the detainment zone.
[ Metal clatters .]
Tim: We dove in to hide.
We weren't gonna take any chances.
Armando: Yeah, I'm pretty sure I have to go down there, dude.
We can't go down there, man.
This has to hook onto the box, and this isn't moving.
We didn't do it right.
Something's wrong here.
We got to pull something here.
How are we a few inches short? It's not long enough.
It's not long enough.
Hurry up before they go! We got to hook the pulley up.
When we get to stage 2, the green team's here.
Like, okay, we're making up our lost time.
We're getting back in this thing.
Just stay focused.
Victor: There it is, there it is, there it is.
You got it, you got it, you got it, you got it.
[ Thud .]
[Bleep.]
Armando: I pull the chain back up 'cause I realize I'm never gonna be able to hook this.
It was too strong of a clip.
It just would have kept sliding through.
Armando, I got it.
Come here.
Come here.
So I grabbed the sweater, and I used the sleeve to tie the clip.
Sal: I look over to see what green team is doing, and they have their sweater hooked up to theirs.
And I was like, "their sweater?! "Okay, that's a little unorthodox.
Go for it, champ.
" There it is.
There it is.
There it is.
There it is.
I got it.
There it is.
All brain and no muscle! Oh, we got it! Sal: We're gonna use it like this.
All right.
Sal: We were in stage 2.
I'm trying to hook the crate.
We extended their hook.
We hook up the chain from detainment that holds up the bunk beds.
Come on, sal.
We got the valve, the key, and the wrench.
Let's go.
It's reaching, it's reaching.
Go, go, go, go! Don't stop! Don't stop! It's okay.
It's okay.
Green team has completed stage 2.
Eisen: Blue team is still working to complete stage 2, while the red team is making their way past the guards and approaching stage 3, but the green team is catching up.
They just have to locate the hangar deck.
Oh, yeah.
Where's the map? [Bleep.]
I left the map.
We need to go back.
We need to go back.
Oh, you got to be kidding me.
I knew I had messed up.
That map is the key to the victory.
We got to move.
We're good.
We're going this way.
This way.
Come on.
Let's go.
Sal: There we go.
Jeanan: [ Grunts .]
Armando: Dude, where'd you put it? The map is a key, dude.
[ Clanging .]
Sal: We get our second part to our "great escape" key, and we're moving.
Blue team has completed stage 2.
Let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go.
Sal: We get out, and we see the guards, and it's quiet.
If you're not tiptoeing, they are gonna hear you.
Oh, this guard's coming.
Jeanan: I hope the guards get them.
Guard: Green team, freeze right there! The green team has been captured.
Located deep within the belly of the u.
S.
S.
Hornet is the anchor-chain locker.
In stage 3, teams must search through these massive links and pull their own chain through a porthole.
At the end, they'll find a flag with a clue crucial to stage 4 and the third piece to "The Great Escape" key.
I don't know what a porthole is.
Okay, a porthole is a hole in the hull.
Is that a porthole? No.
[ Sighs .]
Victor: I was embarrassed because we're the first ones to get caught.
I didn't want to get caught at all.
Armando: We got to do this again? Oh, wow.
Oh, hey, daddy, daddy, daddy.
Tim: Oh, perfect.
Oh, that's gonna be really fun.
Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
She found the chain.
And it was not light.
Oh, my God.
This is heavy! Come here and help me.
Ready? Pull! Okay.
Pull! And pull! Go back.
Oh! Okay.
Got it.
Go.
Go.
[ Buzzer sounds .]
Green team has escaped detainment zone.
Okay, ready? Let go of it.
I'm not holding it.
[ Chain clanks .]
Ow! You okay? Sal: We wait for the guard, and we just book from behind him.
I think he might even have heard us, but by the time we got to where we needed to go, we were gone.
This way.
Chain locker.
Chain locker.
Do you think it might be in that room over there? Yeah, it could be.
I hope it wasn't at the bottom of that stupid chain.
Armando: Come on, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go! We get to the chain locker.
I'm looking around.
I see that there's a chain on the side.
Let's see if it's this right here.
I know, I know.
I'm just ripping this thing up.
Oh, my God.
This thing is heavy! Please! Okay, they got their flag, so they've caught up.
Hold this.
Hold it, hold it.
On the chain is a flag that deciphers the code that you need for stage 4.
Jeanan: Get it, get it, get it, get it.
And also "great escape" key.
Let's do this.
So, we get it, and we're ahead of them now.
We're heading out of stage 3.
Blue team has completed stage 3.
Should we pull it back up? I mean, I don't did that box open? I don't know.
Well, you told me to drop it.
I know, and we dropped it.
Maybe it is in there.
McKenna: We had to pull it up again.
God, we're making stupid mistakes.
It's got to be in there.
Victor: We finally got to our stuff.
Armando: We took off running.
We're trying to get to stage 3.
Sure enough, the key was in there.
Okay, look, c.
I.
C.
Is this way.
Come on.
Red team has completed stage 3.
All right.
Let's go.
Sal: We get about halfway to the c.
I.
C.
, and all of a sudden, we got a guard coming our way.
I was like, "jeanan, hide.
" Eisen: While the blue team has been pinned down by the guards on the way to the combat information center, the red team is almost there.
Meanwhile, the green team is a step behind at stage 3.
Armando: I saw that chain.
I didn't even hesitate.
I just started to pull that chain up.
Just start walking.
Just start walking.
Just keep walking.
Don't stop walking.
It was heavy, but you know what? At that point, I didn't care.
I didn't care if that thing was on fire.
All right.
Pull, pull.
The flag comes up.
Hold it.
Hold the chain.
So, we unclip the flag.
Get the key.
The combat information center, or the c.
I.
C.
, is the top-secret nerve center of any military vessel and stage 4 of this great escape.
Teams will take their post at a ping station and using coded letters from their flag, decipher a series of numbers on a plotting board like this to eventually open up a digital safe like this.
Teams will need everything inside, including a headset, balloons, access card, and especially the fourth and final piece of "The Great Escape" key.
Here, daddy, these.
Codes, remember? Tim: This is the digital lock.
Oh, here.
Look this, this.
This is it.
It's got to be it.
There's a "d" and a "q.
" I found the cipher.
It looked like one of those radars, like a circle.
You had to line it up, so this piece of the pie was "j," and over here was "q," and you had to, like, wrap them around together.
Then he started plugging it into one of the digital safes.
Nine.
Okay, the next one's three.
Three.
Eight, seven.
Last one.
Come on, babe.
I'm trying.
Four.
Four.
And press that.
"Error.
" What?! It says "error.
" Do it again.
At the bottom of that chain was this little cannister.
I saw the key in there.
Oh, you got it.
You got it.
Come on, come on.
Let's go, let's go.
[ Indistinct conversation .]
We got the key out of there, we grab the bags, and we take off.
As we were leaving the chain room, we really didn't have any time to think about anything.
We knew we were behind.
We realized when we were hiding from the guard, we left the flag.
For some reason, I came to my senses.
We had a second to calm down.
This way.
Go, go, go, go, go.
Go, go, go.
Green team has completed stage 3.
No.
Error.
Shoot! Nine, three, eight, five, seven, four.
Enter.
[ Beep .]
Whoo! Perfect.
Let's go.
Okay.
Sal: We enter stage 4.
Red team's in there, and they moved their stuff.
Like, they're trying to hide their information.
Like, we're trying to copy off them.
McKenna: Plug it in.
Tim: I plugged it in.
I was trying to listen on the headphones for the audible clue.
[ Bleep .]
man: Proceed to turret 54 on the flight deck.
Rappel from transport zone, signal rescue boat, and proceed to finish.
[ Bleep .]
okay, okay.
Red team has completed stage 4.
This is the transport zone.
After completing stage 4, teams must use the access card from the safe to gain entry to the flight deck.
From there, they will make their way to the transport zone.
Here, teams rappel off the ship to a platform below.
And there, they inflate their signal balloons and hail a rescue boat to come find me.
Upstairs, man.
Upstairs, upstairs, upstairs.
Look at that.
Okay.
Okay, "d," "q.
" That's two.
I put two and two together right away.
Punch it in.
Boop, boop, boop, boop, boop.
[ Beep .]
And it opens up.
She's clearing them out as I'm taking the headphones out of there to plug them in to get our evacuation info.
I plug them in, and so, at this point, I was so excited.
I was like, "oh, my God! We're here!" Blue team has completed stage 4.
Come on! It's this one.
It's this one.
It's this one.
It's this one.
It's this one.
We knew we had to go to the flight deck, so we figured out by the map which way the flight deck was, and we had this door that was locked.
Yes! And he just whipped out the access card and swipes it, and we went through.
Yeah, baby! Okay, we got to look.
We got to look.
When we got to the flight deck, I wanted to be very cautious again, and so we're kind of peering up before we actually climbed up on the flight deck.
We figured if we were caught, then we were gonna be toast.
If we made any mistakes and then got caught, yeah, we're out of the game.
That's a guard.
That's a guard.
[ Shouts indistinctly .]
Eisen: As the race to escape the u.
S.
S.
Hornheats up, the blue team is stuck trying to gain entry to the flight deck, where the red team is already making their way to the transport zone, while the green team is trying to decipher the code to their safe in the c.
I.
C.
"D" and "q.
" Where's "d" and "q"? Armando: We figured the numbers out, put it in, we do it.
Give me the numbers.
Give me the numbers.
Two.
Two.
Now five.
Five.
[ Beep .]
Get the I.
D.
There's an I.
D.
In there.
We got all the balloons, the I.
D.
, the access card.
That's where we have to meet.
Six, one, two, eight, six.
[ Beep .]
Eight, one, six? Can't be.
[ Beep .]
No.
Let's go back and look at it real quick.
Let's make a run.
Let's do it.
Tim: So, we started moving across the flight deck.
We're hiding behind things, and, I mean, I looked back, and I saw another guard.
We dove behind something else.
But at this point, it's like, we knew we were so close.
Sal: The green team comes in, and they go straight to the door, and they had the card.
Jeanan: Oh, you're so smart.
Green team has completed stage 4.
Access card we forgot, yeah? Yeah, where did we get it? Where was the access card? With the rest of the balloons and everything else.
You got it.
You said you had everything out of there.
I opened it? We need to get the access card.
How do we get back in there? Go, go, go! Hey, it's over there! Over there! Victor: At that point, we had our mind focused on the red team as we run across the flight deck, and we're getting to the transportation zone.
Just kept going.
We just kept going.
McKenna: When I saw the harnesses, it was kind of scary.
Jeanan: How do we get back in there? Sal: I have no idea.
They obviously got back in, didn't they? No, they had it.
Damn it! Yeah, yeah.
Damn it, yeah.
Tim: You got to tighten it up.
I know.
I don't know how tight.
Tim: I mean, neither one of us had ever done it before.
I mean, rock climbin is different than just, like, going off a ship into an ocean.
Tim: There you go.
Lean back.
You got it, you got it.
Lean back.
Lean back.
Keep your legs straight.
Bend your knees.
I got it.
Keep them straight.
Use them as shock absorbers.
No, lean back, lean back.
I got it, dad.
Don't talk to me.
All right.
[ Exhales sharply .]
You're doing great, hon.
Now just lower yourself down.
Can you not touch the side? No.
Okay.
Keep your hand behind you.
Tim: My heart's racing right now.
I think one of the big reasons why we really were unsure is that neither one of us had ever done it before.
You just got to trust the equipment.
You just got to calm down.
I was freaking out, zipping down that line.
Wow.
That was insane! Once he got down, as we're blowing up our balloon at the bottom, we saw green starting to come down.
Armando: All right, dude, go, go, go, go.
Armando, they're right there.
Yeah, we still got this.
We still got a chance.
Go, go, go, go.
Okay.
Okay.
You got it? Is it gonna float? Does it float? Let go.
[ Laughing .]
Yeah! That's our signal.
We tell them this "87 coast guard cutter.
" Victor: As I was taking my step down, I lost control of the rope and I swang my shin right into the side of that boat.
[ Grunting .]
We got a boat coming this way.
That's got to be our ride.
Armando: Come on, man, get it done.
Go, go, go, go, go.
McKenna: Coast guard cutter 87.
We're going to coast guard cutter.
Let's go! Let's go.
Let's go.
Let's go.
Let's go.
Let's go.
Eisen: Here you go.
Welcome aboard.
Tim: Thank you, sir! [ Laughter .]
Okay.
Here's the box.
You have something for me? Give it to him.
"The Great Escape" key that reads "coast guard cutter.
" This is it.
Let's see.
That's a fit.
Tim and McKenna, after a seemingly endless night of diving into murky waters and navigating a maze of decks and hacking combat codes and, yes, rappelling off the side of an aircraft carrier, you have escaped the u.
S.
S.
Hornet and made it to freedom.
Congratulations.
You have won "The Great Escape.
" [ Laughs .]
And that means you get what's inside.
[ Both laugh .]
Tim: I'm very proud of my daughter.
She's very tenacious.
[ Chuckling .]
We started out so horribly.
And at one point, I thought it was lost, but in the end, I can't say I've ever seen $100,000 sitting there in front of me.
It was just incredible.
Wow.
Wow.
We won! [ Both laugh .]
Red team has won.
Red team has won.
Armando: As soon as I heard, "the red team has won 'The Great Escape, '" yeah, I was beat.
I proved a lot to myself, and I feel that what I'm taking away from this is gonna completely change my attitude and my work ethic for the rest of my life.
And, you know, it taught me about myself that I can defeat adversity and still keep going.
I left this ship knowing that I gave it absolutely everything I had.
Very good job, man.
Good job.
Red team has won.
Red team has won.
Sal: When I heard that the red team had won, I was exhausted mentally, exhausted physically, and you know that that your partner forgot the card.
You should have grabbed the access card.
I don't mean to be rude, but you should have.
You handed everything to me.
You're gonna look back on this, and you're gonna see, "wow, my hair looked great, and my makeup was fine, and I didn't grab the access card.
" Are you kidding me? [ Voice breaking .]
I knew how much the money meant to him.
That's a lie.
I did this for my mom.
It's the only reason I did this.
[ Crying .]
I did.
I forgot the key.
And I know mom needs help.
That's why I feel terrible.
I'm so sorry.
For as hard as we worked together as a team and as much as we did, I didn't realize that the card was still in there.
You know what? If we stick on this idea that she got this access card, it's gonna hold us back from being who we are to each other.
Yeah.
Come here, please.
You happy? No, but I still love you.
What are you gonna do with this money? Oh, my gosh.
Oh, my gosh.
Pay off college loans.
[ Laughs .]
You know, my 25th anniversary is in June.
Uh-huh.
And I want to take my wife somewhere special.
Tim: Standing on the coast guard cutter at the end, it was just incredible.
