After the Runway (2011) s01e03 Episode Script
Designers in Stitches
Tonight on After the Runway After the Runway 1x03 Designers in Stitches I was like, "Tim, Joshua got me drunk.
" He's like, "Did he try to sabotage you?" I get a lot of men asking me for a date.
Have you said yes to anyone? No.
We have never-before-seen footage.
[Blows raspberry.]
Did you just fart? Just really consider how you would feel if someone wrote that about you.
Oh, my God.
Hello, and welcome to After the Runway.
I am your host Zanna Roberts Rassi.
Tonight, we'll be chatting with our final four and checking in with one of the season's most beloved designers.
So, guys, now normally I'd be talking to the eliminated designer.
However, twist of fate, and then all four of you are still in the running.
This is amazing.
Congratulations.
Congrats.
So, final two, you stood there, you had a solidarity, you held hands--how did it feel? What was going through your to stand there and know that, you know, if I went home, I knew that I had done my best, but I didn't do the best at that moment, so I knew that.
How about you, Kimberly? I was thinking, "No!" [Laughter.]
"No, I'm not ready to go! Oh, I'm not going.
" I was ready to go out kicking and screaming.
You made it.
You walked through the back door there, and then obviously the biggest twist when you saw Anya walk through again.
Oh, my God.
I knew it! You are such a mess.
[Laughter.]
What did you think, Joshua? I was shocked initially, but prior to going back out there, you guys remember me saying, i was like, "It would be a complete injustice if they sent any one of us home at this point because each aesthetic was so completely unique, and would it really be that crazy to give four people a chance?" Yes, I mean, it still keeps it at, you know, 25% at that point per designer, which kind of was upsetting.
That's true.
How do you feel? Yeah.
And I said in my interview-- It's no longer two, now we have three people to beat.
Right, you know, and I was like, well, at that point, send both of them home, and me and Viktor will just go to Fashion Week.
[Laughter.]
Viktor, how about you? What did you think? I definitely wanted somebody to go home, just because I-- in that competition, I really wanted to go to Fashion Week, and it almost felt like they like you in a personal level too, and they're like, "We want to see more of her.
" So let me ask you, who were you actually thinking? Who is gonna go? Who was leaving? I thought Anya was gonna leave just because I remember that her critique went Really badly.
Not as good as she wanted.
The judges were just like, whoa! That was rough.
I mean, I've seen them tough, but they were very, very critical of everyone.
On the one hand, they were very generous with their criticism, which is good for us as young designers coming from such experienced people.
It's helpful to hear that, right? Extremely.
I think it's great that they're doing that.
But they went to town.
Every sort of--and maybe they were a little softer during the rest of the competition.
That was out the window.
Who did you think was gonna-- I thought it was me.
Yeah.
It's the first time I had seen Anya so quiet in the workroom and like You know, it was like she was literally, like, this close to selling, like, everything.
She's like And I just--I felt very nervous for her.
I was nervous for Kimberly, but when she styled her stuff together, it made sense.
You only had five weeks to make a very polished ten-piece collection, which is absolutely nothing.
That must have been so stressful.
After my critique, I was devastated.
I mean, I had pieces together, and, by the time Tim left, I had two pieces.
How about you, Viktor? Tim always gave me good critiques throughout, but I almost felt like I wanted bad critique because I wanted to grow.
I wanted him to tell me, like, "Change this out.
Do this.
" Kimberly, it was so warming to see all your friends and family actually.
It was a really lovely, like, moment that we all saw that.
But now you see why I love them and during the competition I just missed them and having that, you know, somebody rallying behind you.
Well, all of you guys, you know, had some great people with you.
So, guys, I'd like to bring out one of the designers that seems to be loved by everyone.
Please welcome Anthony Ryan.
Whoo! [Applause.]
Come on in.
Yes, yes, yes.
Up close and personal.
Now you may be gone, but you're definitely not forgotten.
You are, without doubt, one of our favorites.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Hello, Anthony.
Did you make the scarf? Designed it.
Can I have it? [Laughs.]
I was diagnosed with testicular cancer.
Looks polka dot, but it's a monkey print.
That's funny.
Is it hot? It's warm, but it's not burning.
It's not hot? My human bird feeder, I guess.
This dress reminds me of a dress that got left in an airport, so.
We've already talked about that.
Aah! Don't tell anyone.
Anthony's my favorite.
Mm-hmm.
Congratulations, you're the winner of this challenge.
I'm so excited! [Laughs.]
[Cheers and applause.]
I'm not a bridesmaid anymore.
I'm an official bride.
My groom can take me on my honeymoon.
I have won.
Anthony, how does it feel to have so many fans? Um, it's kind of overwhelming, you know.
They're like all over the place.
You know, you get--I get messages from people in China and Europe, and people are--I guess they're a little more excited than I am, you know what I mean? Right.
They, like, come up, and they're shaking to take a picture and stuff.
And it's very amazing just, you know, to see the support team that you have behind you.
Now tell me, any strange fan incidents with you? Well, yeah.
[Laughter.]
Just a few.
No, 'cause it was so funny to me.
I went to the deli across the street from my studio, this girl caught me off-guard.
She started screaming, "oh, my God!" Everybody turned, and I'm like, "What's going on?" Like, I was almost scared.
I'm like, "is there a terrorist attack?" It was so funny.
I started cracking up.
I love it.
I think it's really important to, you know, go out and greet the people that are screaming like maniacs because I can remember my emotions for seeing people on Project Runway in my bar.
I was like [Laughter.]
You know, I'd be, like, serving drinks.
I'd be like You know, and, I mean, seeing Christian Siriano and Jack Mackenroth and all-- Jay McCarroll and Blake and Stella, and, like, I love these people, and I used to watch those seasons, so, to put myself into their shoes, I'm like, "It is a little bit of craziness.
" You had someone stop in their cab and get out of the cab and come and-- Really? I mean, someone--they were actually driving, and they parked their car--they stopped their car at a red light, got out to take photos, got back in, and drove away.
No way.
Well, you're no stranger to fans obviously, being Miss Trinidad.
[Laughter.]
Um, how is it different this time? Oh, my gosh, it's like exponentially more.
I mean, being Miss Trinidad and Tobago was a beginning of that, but this is on another level.
And for me, you know, I've been through something in between being Miss Trinidad and Tobago and this.
I mean, I went through not being loved very much.
What was it? I had a bit of a scandal.
I have to ask, what was the scandal? Okay.
Um, well, my boyfriend and I have had a few intimate tapes, and they were released, unbeknownst to us, on the Internet, and so-- On the Internet? Yes.
At the time, I was still Miss Trinidad and Tobago, so it was not only a disgrace for me and my family, but also for the country, and so it just--it took me through the mud for sure.
Wow.
I'm sorry about that.
And then now you can be there as a representative in this super positive way.
That must be so satisfying.
Yes, it is.
Good for you.
Did you have any? I get a lot of men asking me, like, for a date.
Like, I'm 6'4'' and 5'8'' and brown-eye--you know, like the whole match.
com-- [overlapping statements.]
Yeah, like, they Facebook me and Tweet me these, like, "Can we go out?", and I'm like-- Have you said yes to anyone? No.
[Laughter.]
Well, good luck to you all in the competition of fan favorites.
Although, I have to say, you guys have no chance.
[Laughter.]
It's all about these two.
You never know.
Miracles can happen.
Yeah.
Voting is still open, and the winner will receive $10,000.
Remember, all 20 designers are eligible, so please log on to mylifetime.
com to find out more information.
Coming up after the break, we have a big surprise for the designers: Never-before-seen footage.
I really cannot wait for this.
Oh, no.
This is gonna be funny.
Welcome back to After the Runway.
Well, we often see the tears and the drama, but what about the laughs? Here's the stuff you haven't seen.
Let's take a look.
Put the scissors down.
Three of you will be showing at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, and one of you will be [Blows raspberry.]
[Laughter.]
[Blows raspberry.]
Did you just fart? [Blows raspberry.]
I have to say, this was a really hard decisi-- [blows raspberry.]
I have to say, this was a really hard dec-- She does do that a lot.
Why can't I say, "decision"? De-cision.
Duh.
[Snores.]
I totally should have used this.
It's kind of cute, right? Oh, I do remember that.
Oh, my God, could I wear it? I think you could.
That looks kind of legit.
It does.
That is avant-garde.
Oh, I love it.
[Exclamations.]
Boys, calm down.
I am sure not telling my model about this show.
Am I wearing those? Your ass on my shoulder.
That seems like a song.
Your ass on my shoulder There you go.
What is going on? I didn't even see this.
I was stuck in a shoe.
The thrill of Tetris! Oh! See, that goes right there.
Snaps.
We're doing a snap episode as we speak.
I brought my assistant along today to help me with these snaps here, because I don't know what I'm doing.
[Laughter.]
Oh, my God, you need to be on TV, I swear.
[Laughter.]
[Shrieks.]
Oh! Mother-effer.
Oh.
Oh, yeah.
Laura was so pissed.
You're gonna film it too? [Laughter.]
You should come running with me in the mornings.
I remember that she was-- Look at Tim when he starts to run.
Give me some, Tim.
You're only 75.
Come on.
I love how he thinks about it, like, 50 times.
He's like, get some.
[Laughter.]
[Grunting.]
[Laughter.]
Yes! What the hell? Call the paramedics.
This is-- That's why we hear them making so much noise.
[Upbeat music.]
[Laughs loudly.]
[Laughter.]
That was too cute.
As we saw from those clips, the judges aren't always as serious as they are.
Oh, we know.
Heidi, she's a comedian.
She is.
Oh, God, yes.
She is.
I love Michael.
I think he was so funny.
Like, even though when there was serious critique and we would stop or something It would make us laugh.
He would still be like, "I mean, she looks like a hooker.
" [Laughter.]
What was your most embarrassing moment on the show? I mean, the underwear shot wasn't horrible.
Um, I guess mine was a comment I made about chickens.
I was trying to say something about "Don't count your eggs before they hatch.
" I was like, "Don't count the chickens just yet.
" All right, everyone.
I think mine's definitely one of the stronger ones, you know.
But we're not gonna count them chickens yet.
I don't even know what I was saying.
Josh, how about you? The ass cheek.
You think that's embarrassing? [Giggles.]
I can't help it.
Like, I'm trying not-- What are you laughing about? What do you think I'm laughing about? Do you see Josh? Joshua! Oh, my God.
It's a good fit.
I'm very keen on fit, so I was trying to make do with what I had, you know? What didn't we see that was, like, super fun? His comedic timing is, like, on point.
You have to do the Michael for us.
Do the Michael Kors.
Let me see.
Turn around.
Turn around.
Oh, no.
Turn it back.
[Laughter.]
I think my most embarrassing moment was jumping up and down-- [laughter.]
My God.
[Screams.]
Oh, my goodness.
My bag.
It's going in my bag.
Get it, get it, get it, get it.
Ah! Ooh.
Get it.
Yes.
Gross.
I mean, I'm from Brooklyn, don't get me wrong, I've seen 'em, but I don't want them crawling up on me, though.
Time to clear the air.
Ooh.
Our favorite part.
I'm hearing something about a little plan to sabotage somebody's appointment with Tim Gunn, and it had to do with drinking a heck of an amount.
That is a fact.
It is a fact.
And I did plan it.
And I did it to him too.
Okay, here it goes, the story.
Tell me, tell me.
So we go out and watch Project Runway on Thursdays at 9:00 p.
m.
[Laughter.]
We were having drinks, and it got out of hand.
Anyways, he got me so drunk-- Hang on, wait, this is the night before Tim Gunn is arriving? Night before his home visit.
Yes.
So when Tim came, I was on the floor on top of, like, fabric, resting.
And Tim was like, "what is--" Resting! "What is going on?" I was like, "Tim, Joshua got me drunk.
" He's like, "Joshua!" [Laughter.]
Listen to what Tim said.
He's like, "Did he try to sabotage you? Or wait a minute, did you sabotage him, 'cause he has a lot of work to do.
" I was like, "I don't know, Tim.
We both sabotaged here.
" He definitely, like--that was the most horrible day for me.
All throughout the series, we keep on hearing that you're colorblind.
Oh, God.
Here we go again.
Here we go.
But even in the challenge-- the avant-garde challenge--I was judging that, and you had this incredible colorful gown.
What do you actually see color-wise? There's two types of colorblind--red-green and blue-yellow.
Right.
But I'm both.
I'm colorblind, so I like to mix patterns.
You're colorblind? Uh-huh, yeah, I'm red-green and blue-yellow.
Oh, my.
If you told someone that you were colorblind, they'd be like, "what?" I definitely have the upper hand on patterns.
You know, being colorblind-- I still love that you're colorblind and you do beautiful things with color.
Thank you.
What color's-- And this is the question I get from everyone.
What color's that? What color is that? Tell me, tell me, what color is that? It's like red, reddish-orange.
[Makes buzzer sound.]
The jacket? I mean, that's not bad.
What color's this? That's pink.
Isn't it? Pink? He's not colorblind! I can see primary colors just fine, but, when it gets into shades and tones and stuff, that's where I have issues.
Won the avant-garde challenge.
Oh, my God, the two of you.
That Chiquita-looking outfit.
[Laughter.]
It made me--it made me want a banana.
[Laughter.]
I do want to say that Anthony, to me, went home way too early.
Um, I think probably a lot of the viewers feel the same way.
But Clearly.
We missed him, you know? We missed you.
You're right here.
[Laughter.]
When he left, I felt like, it was so serious, 'cause he was my roommate and I was so used to him.
At least he had a chance to go and get a new haircut.
[Laughter.]
It's growing out.
It's growing out.
I'm glad we were able to clear all that up.
And coming up, a special guest is here to get to the bottom of things.
Stay tuned.
I do love it.
[Laughter.]
Welcome back to After the Runway.
And now it's that time of the show when we like to get to the bottom of things.
We have someone here who's been watching all season, and she's been in your exact spot.
She made it to Fashion Week as one of the final four during Season Three.
Please welcome Laura Bennett.
Hi.
Welcome back.
Okay, no fighting, you two.
[Laughter.]
Just love.
I know, right? Hi, everyone.
All: Hi.
Thank you for coming back.
Thank you so much.
So, tell me, let's get straight to it.
Do you think all four of these kids should be back on the runway? You know, it's tough at the end because fans have their favorites.
And I know Anya was sort of the last to make it through, and I think, you know, I would be disappointed not to see a collection from Anya.
I think a lot of the viewers would be disappointed.
But--and, Joshua, I'm gonna have to take up for you here.
When the reaction of the other designers was just like, "oh!" If you weren't this beautiful, I'd be pissed off right now.
I mean, I don't think Kimberly or Anya's critiques went that well.
I don't think either of them should go.
I did not expect that.
Like, this isn't fuddy-duddy dress-up.
This is New York Fashion Week.
A critique like that I don't think is worthy of taking it to the main stage.
We all have a lot of work to do.
It might look mean on television, but this is a competition where you progress in baby steps.
But is it really that much harder to compete against two than three? No, really, it goes like that.
On my season, we had two eliminated designers brought back.
And I remember thinking, ughh.
So again, I really related to your reaction to it all.
I make facial expressions.
And they will catch them as well.
You are expressive.
Now you guys tonight, you got a pre-critique of your work from the judges.
What are you gonna do with that information? I think for me I am gonna take heed to what they're saying about the styling.
I think that was probably their biggest point to me, was that it was over-accessorized.
Anthony Ryan, can I talk to you for a minute? I didn't get a chance to talk to you the other day when I was here.
You started out so strong this season.
Right, right.
And your fash--things just seemed to fade out for you.
Was health an issue, or were you just getting tired? Um, no, I don't think it was either actually.
I think, in the end, I always wanted to make clothes that anyone could wear and anyone can buy, you know? I don't necessarily want my clothing to cost $3,000, $5,000.
So I think that's where I kind of struggled, was trying to find more of that middle ground.
I posted an article about the pet store challenge.
Right.
So I made this comment in my blog that, "oh, I'm so annoyed, I'm going to slap him until he's rocking none.
" Right.
Oh, my God, I got comments.
They were so angry with me.
Right.
How can she be picking on him? I can see where, you know, a viewer might come from, and they don't know you, just like you don't know Josh, you know what I mean? So we know him for the person that he is, and you've said some things about him, just like you're saying that you said things about me that other viewers hadn't appreciated.
My whole thing on that is to just really consider how you would feel if someone wrote that about you.
Right, right.
I mean, that's the only thing I can say about something like that, you know, with that comment.
You telling me it, I'm just like, "okay.
" Yeah.
I mean, I'm fine with that.
You know, I'm not gonna-- i always take a positive from a negative.
If anything I've learned from cancer, it's that.
Right, well, I stood corrected, that's for sure.
So--so what I really want to know is what are you doing with your rocking one campaign? And tell us what's happening, tell us, you know, where this is going.
I'm really getting involved with Make-a-Wish in New Orleans.
I'm doing--I did a dress and a jacket for a girl, a 13-year-old girl who has leukemia.
I was given a second opportunity to do what I love, and I want to give back in that sense.
And it's just a really important cause to me.
Yeah, well, it's great, and if I can help you out with my blog or whatever-- Yeah, thank you.
All of us.
Fashion does good, hey? Right.
Thank you all so much for being here tonight again.
It was a really fun show.
Tune in for the finale next week to find out who wins season nine of Project Runway.
I really cannot wait.
Thanks so much for watching, and I'll see you next time After the Runway.
Cheerio.
[Laughter.]
Next time on Project Runway: Tomorrow is the day.
[Bleep.]
No.
What else is new? I don't know, because it-- What do you mean, you don't know? It's tough love.
Okaywhere am I standing now? Hi, everybody! Designers, we're walking the runway.
I'm wigging out.
I feel like I am screwed.
[Gasps.]
Pull it together.
To me, it reads a little cheap.
Very gimmicky.
Oof, what did she make? It's horrible.
Kind of like, "Oh, God, who wants to wear that?"
" He's like, "Did he try to sabotage you?" I get a lot of men asking me for a date.
Have you said yes to anyone? No.
We have never-before-seen footage.

com-- [overlapping statements.]
