Back with the Ex (2018) s01e03 Episode Script

Episode 3

[narrator] Back with the Ex.
It's day four,
and all our exes are preparing
for the next stage of their journey.
Today they'll leave the hotel
and move into their exes' homes
for one week.
[Meg] How do you feel about me
moving in and taking over?
-Well
-[chuckles]
[Jeremy] It's a little bit of an invasion
into my privacy, I guess.
[Meg] Of course. Into your bachelor pad.
[both laughing]
[narrator] Four years ago,
Meg and Jeremy called it quits
on their volatile relationship.
And even after their reunion
[Meg] I feel sick. It's overwhelming.
things remain rocky.
I'm really not in the mood
to do this at all.
[narrator] But as Meg prepares
to move into Jeremy's house,
she's trying to put her best foot forward.
[Jeremy] Welcome back.
All right. Look how clean it is.
I think I'm excited.
I think I'm excited
to be back at Jeremy's place.
I wanna make things work.
I want to give it 100%.
We'll just move everything out.
You take all of your stuff out,
and I'll just put it all in.
-Where am I gonna put my stuff?
-[laughs] I'm joking.
No, I'm not really.
And he even cleaned out
two drawers for me.
He cleaned out two drawers, the cutie.
Who does that?
He, like, pulled everything out
in his room.
So much space.
The little things in life, they matter.
They definitely matter.
They make the bigger picture.
[narrator] In order to provide a snapshot
of what living together looks like,
all of our hosts have been asked
to lay down some ground rules.
Come and have a seat, Meg.
-Something's brewing. [laughs]
-We've got some rules.
-Three rules.
-Okay.
Rule number one:
No moodiness in the house.
-[scoffs]
-This is a very happy house, Meg.
You can't be going up and down
like you have been in the past.
I want us to be just happy.
-Happy house.
-Mmm-hmm.
I don't think she realizes
how much her attitude
and her moodiness can affect me.
I just don't want to be
in an environment like that.
-Rule number two
-Mmm.
No attitude about things.
[laughs and stammers]
I'm listening. Yeah. Keep going.
-[Jeremy] And rule number three
-Mmm.
No You can't just walk away.
You can't just When you're not happy
'Cause it affects me when you walk away
and take off and do your own thing.
She always walks away from her problems,
and she just thinks that being by herself
and doing her own thing makes it better,
but it doesn't.
It doesn't help anyone.
We got to try and, like, stick together.
We're a team.
I don't want you
just walking away from me.
-Was that serious just then?
-Yes.
Do you think
you can do those three things?
Okay. Yeah, that's fine.
I think I'm just going to try and
I obviously want things to work.
Do you wanna shake on it?
Because I believe that he's
the person I'm meant to be with.
[Jeremy] Come on.
Jeremy's rules are Jeremy's rules.
So the "no walking away," I kind of got.
Maybe we could, like,
tape ourselves together.
If this is what it's gonna take
so that you're not bitchy and not moody
[Meg] I'll just not
and not to walk away from me,
then sure, tape me to you.
Yeah, she's sorta being sarcastic,
but she's smiling and having a good time,
so I was all for it.
Okay, we are officially the mummy.
-I'm so happy about you ripping at my arm.
-Come on, honey.
[both laughing]
Wait. We've gotta learn how to do this
if we want to do this life.
Step. Step.
-[laughing] Don't step around me.
-[Meg laughing]
These moments remind me how much
I like hanging out with Meg.
We can have fun together.
Even when we're trying to be serious,
we turn things into a fun sort of game.
We're gonna sit here,
and we're gonna be happy.
-One with each other.
-Hey, guys. We're happy.
-[woman] That's good.
-[Jeremy laughs]
See, I've never seen you smile this much.
So, obviously, you are feeling
a little bit happy.
[Meg laughing]
-[Meg] I need to go to the toilet.
-[both laughing]
[narrator] It's also home-sweet-home time
for our high school sweethearts,
Kate and Cam.
-[Kate] Thank you so much.
-[Cam] Thank you very much, boss.
[narrator] Kate and Cam experienced
first love together
until their relationship ended
three years ago when Kate cheated.
Since their reunion,
she's been trying to regain his trust.
-How are you?
-Good.
-[Cam] Oh, my God.
-So good to see you.
You, too. This is Look at you.
[Kate] You look amazing.
Thank you.
I'm super excited to have
Cam move into my house.
-We're down here.
-Nice. Oh, wow. Okay.
The last time Cam was over my house
would have been
when I was living with my parents,
so this should be very interesting.
-Look at you. All grown up.
-Now, just take your shoes off.
-Oh. Yes, ma'am.
-[Kate laughs]
[Cam] To be able to rekindle
this relationship with Kate
means the world to me.
All right. Rock on.
-This is great.
-[Kate] This is the lounge room.
[Cam] I like your couch. This is awesome.
-No, really. Very cute.
-This is the kitchen.
-[Cam] Nice little fruit bowl.
-Yeah, let's just head upstairs, shall we?
Okay.
If we were to become just super close,
it would be amazing.
-Come on up.
-[Cam humming]
This is great.
This is my room. It's very small.
I lucked out there.
Um, just while we're here, I just
Will I be sleeping in here? Or
-I think I'll allow it.
-You think?
Well, the couch
is pretty uncomfortable, so
It's totally up to you.
Like, I understand.
-You can sleep in here, dingus.
-Okay, cool.
[laughing] Okay, great.
It's shown me that she's really
comfortable with me again.
So I'm hoping that we both
sort of make a move on each other.
That would be really cool.
[narrator] It's now time for Kate
to set out her ground rules
to further test their compatibility.
-Um, on a more serious note, Cam
-What's this?
I've made up a few little rules
for my house.
Oh, here we go.
Go on. Lay them on me.
Firstly, if you could just not move
things around, that would be awesome.
Just leave things.
Look at them. Don't touch them.
Pretend like this is a museum.
-Toilet seat down.
-[laughs]
-[Kate] This is a girl's house.
-Okay.
-Yeah?
-Yeah.
And then just a little fun one.
Um, every morning, you have to
bring me a tea and breakfast in bed.
You know how I have my teas,
and for breakfast I would like porridge
with some berries.
[laughs] Bugger.
[Kate] We haven't really had a chance
to sit down and have a chat
with what's going on and how
we're both feeling about this
and where we both think this is headed.
I'm glad we've discussed that.
They're on the fridge for your reference.
Okay.
[Kate] Things look like they're definitely
going in the right direction.
I think our feelings are still both there.
You will be cooking for me every night.
-Oh, will I?
-[laughs]
Do you not remember
how great I am at cooking?
-Are you sure you want me to--
-I'm pretty sure you're better than me.
-[Diane] I think you're a little nervous.
-I am, to be honest.
Are you? You don't have to be nervous.
I don't bite.
I know, I don't need to be.
I know that. But I just
[narrator] In their twenties, Peter and
Diane had a long-distance relationship.
It was a romance Peter could never forget.
So, after 28 years,
he initiated a reunion with Diane,
hoping the spark was still alive.
Diane will now move in with Peter
for one week
and meet his kids
who live in the same area.
[Peter] Today, I'm bringing Diane
back to my home and I'm a bit nervous.
What's it called again? It's called
-Bowral. Well, there's three
-[Diane] "Barrel."
Not "Barrel," Bowral.
-B-O-W?
-Yeah.
-That's it?
-Yeah.
-"Bowral."
-R-A-L. Bowral.
Bowral.
You just have to relax your mouth
and just say "Bowral." [laughs]
-Bowral.
-Bowral. Like a barrel.
Diane's never been to Australia before.
This is the first time she's ever been
in any of my spaces.
It's a fairly momentous occasion.
So this is the start of Bowral,
basically back from that hill.
-This is your town?
-Yeah.
This is your town.
You know, it's a lovely place but it gets
a little small when you're a single dad.
-Mmm-hmm. Sure.
-Absolutely.
The fact that he wants me to meet his kids
isn't something I take lightly.
Meeting them, that's huge.
My gosh. That's just a big step
in any relationship.
-This one?
-Yes.
[Peter] There is equal parts
nervousness and excitement,
because I haven't had a lady friend
stay with me for several years and
Well, you know,
there's a bit of pressure there.
Cute!
I'm glad. I'm glad we're here.
-How good's the weather today?
-It's beautiful.
[Peter laughing] Come in.
Thanks.
Cute!
-Wow. I'm in your home.
-[door closes]
Something that I didn't think
would happen so soon, but [laughs]
Only 30 years. Yeah.
-[Peter] So a little, easy, plain kitchen.
-Uh-huh.
-I like all the sunshine.
-Yeah.
I was hoping that the house
would be how she'd want it
and what she'd expect, and
-Come on.
-Babies.
-[Peter] Aren't they gorgeous?
-Yeah.
-This is my room.
-Okay. Sweet.
-No king. Not a king guy, huh?
-Yeah.
It's nice.
Well, there's more than enough space here.
-And bathroom, obviously.
-Mmm-hmm.
So this is your room.
Okay, thank you.
So this is where you'll be staying
and, I mean
Yes.
[Diane] I have mixed feelings
about having my own room.
It seems very strange
to go into a man's home
and walk into a guest bedroom.
Good.
[Peter] That's the gentlemanly thing,
to say, "Well, there's the option.
You've got your bedroom.
It may end up being a place you can
just leave your bags, but still it's"
She knows that that's her space.
It's the right decision for right now,
but I don't actually think
it's gonna last.
-[Erik] We're here.
-[Lauren laughs]
[Erik] Check it out!
You're back home again.
[Lauren laughs] This was never my home.
Welcome to the man-cave.
[Lauren] I haven't been
into Erik's apartment for six years.
-[Erik] Oh, my God.
-[Lauren laughs]
I'm really hoping that he's dropped
his untidy ways
and that I see a clean apartment
with organization
and that I don't have to clean.
-Welcome to my man-cave.
-It's already the same.
-I can see the towel hanging on the door.
-[Erik laughs]
Everything is exactly the same.
Six years, and you're picking up
on stuff already. Wait, wait, wait!
I'm going to try
and give you the grand tour.
Slow down.
Shoe rack, meet Lauren. Shoes.
The man-cave is my private oasis.
Everything is in its place.
It's an organized mess.
It's OCD at its finest.
-The lounge room.
-Mmm-hmm.
-Just as I remember.
-Just as you remember?
[Lauren] I walk into Erik's living room,
and I just think,
"What is this?"
It's messy. It smells dusty.
There's a whole wall of protein powder.
Wow. Like, really?
Is this what I'm going to be living in?
The fridge.
It's broken. So just be careful.
-Oven's broken.
-Okay.
Stovetop works.
So you won't be cooking me
any dinners in the oven.
No, no. I've got an air fryer.
And there's, like, a lack of plates,
so you're going to have to eat
over the sink with nature's forks.
You don't have plates?
Seriously, where's your plates?
Oh, sorry. Where's your plates?
-There's no plates.
-What happened to your plates?
No plates. No plates.
-No plates.
-It is literally like no one lives here.
That's usually full of food, but no food.
What am I going to eat?
[laughs]
Um Serious question.
Where's your plates?
I don't have any plates.
-So what do you do?
-Eat over the sink.
Lauren's look is one of disgust
that she's going to have to use
her hands to actually eat food.
-Is there going to be a problem?
-I don't want to eat off my hands.
It is a little bit weird.
It's just not something that I'm used to.
I'm not saying it's a bad thing,
but it's
Yeah, it's definitely not normal.
[Erik] So here's the bedroom. Bed.
-Nothing's changed.
-Nothing's changed.
-[Lauren] Nothing.
-Would you like the bed?
-I'll sleep on the couch.
-Okay.
-Yes?
-Yeah, that would be good.
Erik offering me the bed was nice.
It made me feel a little bit more relaxed.
A bit more at home.
I am starting to see the old Erik again.
That sweet side to him.
Hopefully, it will stay on track.
Follow me.
[narrator] After 28 years apart,
Peter's also reacquainting Diane
with his day-to-day life
-in my twenties.
-[both laugh]
taking her sightseeing
around his local area.
[Diane] I'm feeling really good
about Peter right now.
I'm feeling like I'm getting to know him,
you know, but he's still Peter.
I don't think I've told you this.
When my dad retired, I took him
to the States for a month for a holiday.
And I really believe that one trip
brought Dad and I closer together.
It's like we're picking up
where we left off,
but it's sort of dealing
with that big gap in time
and where we are now as people today.
Well, welcome to the Mittagong lookout.
I think, to a certain extent,
I have glamorized the relationship.
You remember the good parts.
You tend to block out the bad parts.
And the opportunity for us
to really get to know each other,
that will certainly determine
whether it was
a fantasy for me
or whether it's going to be real.
You have to turn around
'cause the sun is behind us,
so we actually have to turn
and have that as the background.
'Cause it'll be black.
I think I have a lot of issues.
I'm a bit bossy.
-We'll do a selfie?
-Yeah.
Yeah, so that's what I said.
-So we have to turn this way
-Oh!
and then face that way.
But I wouldn't be here if I wasn't
trying to figure out the big picture,
but part of the big picture
is all the day-to-day stuff
and how do we work through it?
-[camera clicks]
-[Diane] Nice.
[Peter] I've gone into this
with eyes wide open,
and I think the heart open, too.
If it doesn't work out, yeah,
I'll be pretty heartbroken.
[Diane] Nice way to end
-[Peter] Yeah.
-an afternoon drive.
[Peter] I'm quite the tour guide,
aren't I?
[Diane] You are. Good job.
[narrator] Back in the man-cave,
to prove he's a changed man,
Erik has prepared dinner for Lauren.
That's the chicken cooking.
Chicken's ready.
Let me just check on it.
I'm eating chicken with toilet paper?
It's only a drumstick. Don't worry.
So you don't burn your hands.
I've never had chicken
wrapped in toilet paper before.
But Erik's house, Erik's rules.
Over the sink.
It's pink.
It's not pink. Just bite it. Eat it.
I don't think it's cooked properly.
No, it's fine.
No, I'm not eating that. Look, it's pink.
-[Erik] Where?
-It's still raw. Look.
[Erik] It's not raw.
[Lauren] I think I'll just stick
to eating the broccoli and
Well, grab a piece.
-[Lauren] Can I please have a plate?
-Over here.
[Lauren scoffs]
-Can I at least have a plate, please?
-Eat it my way first.
That a girl. Is it good?
It's great.
[Erik] I'm starting
to get a bad vibe from her.
She looks like she's ready to bail.
-It's better than raw chicken.
-[scoffs] Oh.
I'm here for a reason.
I've come back to see if we could
work out a relationship again.
I don't just want to throw it all away
before we've even had a chance
to see if we can work out,
and I'm willing to give it a go.
[narrator] It's the first night at home
for our couples
as they try to reconnect with an ex,
who was once familiar
but is now a stranger.
[Jeremy] It's like
the honeymoon stage again.
We're having so much fun.
Like, we can't be separated.
We just want to be around each other.
I don't know.
It's just nice having Meg there.
[Meg laughs]
I want to go back and actually, like
[laughing] You smell funny.
You really do need a shower.
-[Meg laughs] Get off me.
-[Jeremy] Why?
[Cam] Bonjour.
Oh, heya.
Having Cam in my house
has been so much fun.
I've really enjoyed
just being able to hang out with him
and just do the everyday things.
I think that was a really,
really big step in moving forward.
You're going to judge me
but I have not brushed my teeth all day,
so please don't hate me.
Gross. You've been kissing me
without cleaning your teeth?
You've been kissing me.
-I've brushed my teeth.
-[laughs]
Wow. What a bonding experience
this has been.
I think it really shows
when you get along with someone,
when you don't have to do
anything spectacular.
You can just do boring tasks
and still just want to be with them.
Tonight was a really nice night for that.
Look how red my eyes have gone now,
'cause I was just scrubbing
so hard at them.
Aw. Looks like you've been crying.
You okay?
'Cause I have to look at your face
every day.
[laughing] Ow! That sort of hurt.
Kate and I have a really, really fantastic
chemistry going on at the moment.
We're really close,
getting all buddy-buddy,
you know, bum pinches here and there
and it's, um, it's really fun.
What happened there? [laughing]
No, no.
-[Kate squeals]
-[Cam laughs]
Hey, Kate.
Got a surprise for you.
Agh!
Ew! Don't get them on my pillow!
Hurry up. [humming]
[Kate] I don't even want to come to bed
while you're doing that.
Just because Cam's naked, it doesn't
mean he's going to be getting any.
I'm nervous for actually
sleeping with you tonight.
-Look at you.
-Hey, Mamma.
-[Kate laughing]
-Come and give Papa some sugar.
Oh, stop it.
-Please.
-Good night.
[Cam] Night.
[narrator] While our couples settle in
for a night of domestic bliss,
Erik and Lauren
take a walk down memory lane.
[Lauren] Wow, our very, very,
very first photo together.
I loved that night. Oh, wow! Look at it!
-[laughs] I hate that photo!
-[Erik laughs]
[Lauren] Get it off.
Get it off the screen.
Get it off.
Tonight was really nice.
It was a really nice
It just made me remember
how much we've been through together
and how much we actually did together.
I didn't recognize myself in a lot of 'em.
[Erik] So should we reenact the photo?
[laughing] Why?
Like I was, like,
sitting in front here, and you
[Lauren laughs]
Come on. Hug me.
[Erik] I've revisited these photos
many times over the years,
whenever I've needed a bit of a pick-me-up
or if Lauren's consumed my mind a bit.
It's actually scary
how many pictures you have.
After we split, did you
actually keep any crap like that?
[Lauren] I didn't keep
I didn't want to keep anything.
[Erik] You just got rid of it all,
did you?
[Lauren] Yep.
I think I'm done looking at photos.
Those memories of how I was feeling
have been brought back up to the surface,
so it's bittersweet.
You know. We had so many fun times,
but at the same time, it's making me
remember the bad times as well.
Signs your male life
is being taken over by a female.
[Lauren] What are you doing?
What are you doing?
[Diane] Are you bitching at me?
[both laugh]
-No, I'm really enjoying it.
-All right. So get down.
Go back to the part that's easy.
This part, I struggle with, but I actually
like how it feels in my upper body.
[narrator] And for the volatile Meg,
she's test-driving Jeremy's happy rule.
[Meg] I love washing cars. I'm so happy.
I'm so glad your rules
are so easy, Jeremy,
since I'm just so happy all the time.
[Jeremy] You're giving me a hard time
-Let's wash this car.
-about my rules.
I'm going to give you a hard time
about your rules.
[Meg] Let's do it.
So far, Meg's really going well
with the rules. We haven't had an issue.
Every so often, I remind her,
but it's sort of like a reminder,
as a joke.
Don't walk away, Meg.
[Meg] I'm just so happy
to be washing people's cars.
-[Jeremy] I would never wet you.
-[laughing] Don't! Stop.
I want us to get along. I want us to have
a good time with each other, and
take it back to when we first were
starting to get to know each other.
That would be good.
Would you give away
your car for me, Jeremy?
[Jeremy whistles]
-Hey?
-[Jeremy] Yeah.
It's only a car, Meg.
It's material things.
Your love is not material.
[both laughing]
Easy, easy.
[Jeremy] Moving forward,
I'd really like to see
this be the point where
it's like we start fresh, and this can
Like, no more fighting, I hope,
and all those things
that we did burn and we let go of.
-So happy. I'm so happy when you're happy.
-[Meg sighs]
[Kate] Morning.
[Cam] Morning.
[narrator] Things are also looking up
for our high school sweethearts,
Kate and Cam.
-Ooh. Let there be light.
-No, please. Please, no.
Not yet.
Sleeping in the same bed
is a great step for us in getting closer.
We are making a start. Very slowly.
But wait, you know
you have to make breakfast, right?
[groaning]
Yeah, we just cuddled up a little bit.
It was good. It was nice.
A few smooches here and there.
It's nice to sleep in the same bed.
I think it's bringing us
a little bit closer.
This looks "berry" good.
[both laughing]
Wow. That's really funny.
Things are going good so far.
We're getting along really well.
It's like no time has passed.
So, at this point,
everything is really smooth-sailing.
Watch movies and do nothing all day.
[Cam] That sounds pretty bloody good.
[Kate] Oh, the dream. The dream.
Everything was running pretty smoothly,
however there was
a bit of a plumbing issue.
I'd like to say shit hit the fan,
but I probably can't. Um
I went out the back, and I saw the pipe
pretty much exploding with sewage.
I'm just going to give it a bit
of a clean, because it's going everywhere.
-[Kate] What are you doing?
-Don't look.
-[Kate] What are you doing? What's happening?
-There's sewage everywhere.
It was on your path.
-[Kate] Are you serious?
-Yep.
-What the hell?
-[Cam retches]
Oh, my God.
That's festy.
I can say that this is
a very shitty situation.
Oh, don't touch it, Cam. Jesus.
I don't think the toilet knows
how to handle having a guy in the house.
I mean, I don't know what he did,
but it didn't like it.
[retches]
Cam, stop touching it.
That's really gross.
This is not how
I expected my morning to go.
And it's coming out of this one here?
[Kate] Yep. It was all
just pouring out everywhere.
[Cam] The plumber arrived,
thank God, and fixed it.
I'm not to blame at all.
[Kate] Ow.
There's not many people that you can be
one minute, elbow-deep in poop with
and then the next minute,
be dancing in the rain.
[Cam laughs]
[Kate laughs]
I think we're both realizing how special,
um, our relationship is
and how good we work together in a team.
I think somewhere along the way
we did forget that,
and we are starting to realize that now.
[Kate humming]
-Do you want to play Scrabble?
-Yes.
I want to play Scrabble.
I want to kick your ass.
[narrator] As our couples
settle into domestic life,
they've been asked to write
a letter to their other half,
revealing their hopes, fears and secrets.
"Dear Meg, I'm really enjoying
spending time with you,
waking up in the morning next you.
You instantly make me so happy
and I know no matter
what happens during the day,
good or bad, that you'll be there with me.
I know you have concerns
about being with me.
I know I've treated you
like absolute shit before in the past.
And I hope one day
you can forget all those things.
I need you in my life
and I need your smile.
I enjoy everything about you,
and I really hope that you can believe me
when I say that I want to make this work."
I know that I want him in my life.
I want to make this work.
But it takes two parties
for it to work, doesn't it?
And does he want to do everything
he can do to make it work?
Because, if I knew that he did,
then I would do everything
to make it work.
[Jeremy] What did you think of my letter?
It was very lovely.
-I do really care.
-Yeah, and I really--
I'm really trying to show you that I care.
[Meg] Okay.
And I don't think I'll ever say again
that I don't care
Oh.
about you or your feelings.
-We're shaking on it?
-Okay.
There's been a lot of hurt
and dishonesty in the past,
and if I want to win Meg over,
I've got to convince her
that I can change.
We've just gotta give it time
and go slow and
See what happens.
[both laughing]
[narrator] In his letter to Diane,
Peter reveals a secret
that he hopes isn't a deal-breaker.
I wanted to be totally honest with Diane
about everything.
You can't suddenly discover
something down the track
that can then be a deal-breaker.
We have to put everything on the table,
literally, right now.
[Diane] "My dearest Diane,
there is something
that I need to share with you."
[Peter] I'm nervous. Super nervous.
Yeah, just given the secrets
and the content of the letter.
"The timing of our reunion has coincided
with my financial status
at its lowest ebb for over 30 years."
Hopefully, Diane's looking for a guy
who doesn't need to be a provider.
Hopefully, it's not going to take money,
it's not going to take a gigantic house
on the Florida coast.
[Diane] "The domino effect of the setbacks
has resulted in me not being
where I'd like to be financially,
especially with you
coming back into my life.
While I am not broke,
I am sure that you are in
a far better position than I am, fiscally.
Please accept me for who I am.
I'll be your rock, your lover
and the man who'll protect you
and take care of you.
Your loving man, Peter."
Yeah, I'm falling for her big time,
and I don't want it to end.
And
this could be a deal-breaker.
-Did you read my letter?
-I did.
-[Diane] It's okay. Yeah.
-It's okay?
I just reassured him that we were
going to be great together.
That his financial situation
didn't matter.
[Peter] I feel I can do anything now.
-[Diane] I know you can.
-I can.
[Diane] I believe in you.
[Peter] She's given me
the confidence in myself,
because she believes in me
and she cares about me,
and that makes so much difference.
[inhales deeply]
I'm sorry.
To see Peter, my big, strong Aussie
with the big broad shoulders, crying
It's just moving.
I know you're very special.
-You're very sweet.
-[softly] I want to take you back to bed.
[both laughing]
At that moment,
I wanted him to feel like a man
and know how much I desired him.
[narrator] Peter's not the only one
with revelations.
Lauren meets up with her best friends
to drop her own bombshell.
So are you doing anything
for your birthday?
I'm not sure yet.
I haven't got anything planned.
Girls, I need to tell you something.
Um Don't look at me like that.
-Have you met somebody?
-You're pregnant.
-Oh!
-[all laughing]
So I'm not sure how you're going to react,
but please just keep an open mind.
Um But I am going to get back
together with Erik.
-My heart's beating really fast.
-I've got tingles all over my body.
Really?
[Crystal] I'm really shocked.
I feel like I want to be happy for her,
but I'm really scared for her.
I really am, because I know
how much he made her feel
like she was just nothing.
-Are you happy?
-I am happy.
Yeah. It hasn't been great.
-Are you arguing?
-Yeah, we have been.
[Kim] I'm a bit on the fence with it.
There's been a lot of past issues
with the two of them.
I have felt that I have been, um,
always seeking his approval already.
-You have felt that way?
-So
-So that's not good.
-I know, but--
That rings alarm bells for me.
[Lauren] My girlfriends' opinions of Erik
are negative.
I don't want him to try
and make you change again.
I want you to stay you.
[Lauren] Even though he has bad points,
I still do love him as a person.
I would like to hope
that there was some chance of a marriage
and starting a family with Erik.
Are we going to be bridesmaids?
[Lauren] Let's not get too far ahead.
[narrator] Back at Kate's,
our high school sweethearts are
about to reveal their own hopes and fears.
There's something different
about reading something in a letter.
Having him voice how he's feeling.
It sort of opened the door
to moving forward.
"Dear Kate,
we've been so busy getting back to basics
and having so much fun,
we haven't really had the opportunity to
talk seriously and go over certain issues.
Obviously, you and I
have already been over
the whole cheating scenario
a thousand times"
I thought we were
gonna be together forever.
Ultimately, our relationship did end
because of Kate cheating.
"The one area
where I struggle the most is trust.
I need you to help bring down these walls
that I've built over the years.
Even if it's at a slow pace.
I genuinely wish there was a quick fix.
However, I don't think there is.
I don't know how to ask someone
to prove that I can trust them,
but that's what I need from you, Kate.
Hopefully, you have the answers."
Reading this letter really makes me
want to go back in time
and find past Kate
and sort of slap her in the face and
[sighs] I guess just make her
think about what she's doing.
I've done something that has left him
with a lot of hurt feelings,
and all I want to do is fix it.
But I just don't know how.
I'm feeling quite anxious about what Kate
has written in this letter.
"Dear Cam,
although things have just begun,
it's quite clear that you have walls up
when it comes to letting people in.
I understand I was the reason
they went up in the first place,
and it really hurts to know that I caused
you enough pain for that to happen.
For this to work and for us to have
a chance at something more meaningful,
I need to know that you can move forward
and learn to trust me
and let me in completely.
Hurting you was the biggest regret
and mistake of my life,
and I hope you know I would never
do anything like that to you again.
Please know I'm here for you
when you're ready to open up.
Until then, I look forward
to all the adventures we have ahead of us.
Love, Etak."
[Cam] The worries that I had in my head
just vanished because, you know,
what she's written here is very
very sweet.
Like, I'm really proud of her
for writing that,
because that would have taken a lot.
-Oh, hey.
-How are you?
-[chuckles] Good, good, good.
-Bit different, hey?
Very different?
Did you read my letter?
I did. And, honestly,
I thought it was, um
it was pretty good.
Everything that she has written
in front of me
is exactly what I needed to hear.
I was actually When I did read this
I will admit that I actually
It felt like the wall was,
like, sort of coming down a little bit.
It felt like a massive weight
lifted off my shoulders.
This letter's already helping.
It's already helping us move forward.
We're not usually deep people.
We don't normally talk about this,
but I think it's important that we do now,
because we've done this before,
and didn't go well
-Because we didn't--
-'Cause we didn't talk about it. Exactly.
You're, like
You're keen to just have, like,
a bit more serious chats here and there?
Yeah. But I still want to have fun.
You know, that's what I like about us.
I know that we are perfect for each other.
I'm really, really hoping that over time,
we will be able to work through this
So maybe you just need
to open up a little bit more.
and that I will be able
to bring his walls down.
-Yeah, no. Okay. Cool.
-You're a charmer, though.
So are you.
-[man] Get another beer, mate.
-[Jeremy laughs] Yeah.
[narrator] While Meg's out shopping,
Jeremy's brought his mates together
to break the news of his new relationship.
I needed to tell you something.
I have been trying
to make it work with Meg.
-[Cam] We have been trying to get back together.
-What a mistake.
-[Cam] Wow. Really?
-I feel like you're a bit crazy together.
Sorry. [laughs]
I'm just a bit surprised, to be honest.
I thought Meg was long gone, but
Don't do it.
-What do you reckon, Jack?
-Um No way.
-[Jack] No way.
-Jack?
I think it's stupid.
-[Brycey] Like, why can't it work?
-It's just too much. Too much history.
Forget about the history.
Like, it's a fresh start.
No. No, not with her. Not with her, mate.
Just the way she treats Jeremy
and the way she reacts to everything,
it's just not on, not right.
What's happened over the last years?
How have we not been able
to think badly about her?
She definitely has changed.
I reckon you guys need to give her
a chance of how she is now.
Let's sit her down
and have question time with Meg.
-Oh, speak of the devil.
-[Meg] Hello.
-We talking about me?
-Oh, my God!
-Oh, my goodness.
-[Brycey] Hey, hey!
Did you miss me, Jack?
[Meg] I don't know. It was such
a negative vibe as I was walking down.
What's she doing here?
It's, like, cutthroat.
I could see the look on Jack's face.
I just thought, "Uh, here we go."
-Scoot on over.
-You touch my mate, you're dead.
-[Jeremy] Just move the beers.
-[groans]
[Meg] I just didn't expect
such an atmosphere.
I wanted to say hi to everyone,
and instead it was like
"Look who's here."
So everybody's been ripping on me.
-So give it to me. Thank you, Brycey.
-No, I've been on your side.
[Brycey] Jack is just really
hating on Meg. [laughs]
So it's been me? It's all my fault?
-The way I see it, yeah.
-I'm the devil
-Yeah, you're the bad one.
-I'm the devil, and he's an angel.
-I'm definitely not an angel, but
-A halo sits.
I've been there for ten years
and seen everything.
You look back at it,
it hasn't been a good scenario.
-[Meg] Yeah, and it's all my fault.
-Like, yeah.
You're so full of it, Jack.
I want to know what everybody
said about me, Jack. Go.
-[Jack] Three dot points.
-[Meg] Go. First one.
Um You're a bully.
-Okay, I'm a bully.
-You're not trustworthy.
Oh!
It was shit.
I don't know right now.
I feel like everybody's upset me.
-It's all right.
-No, I don't want to be touched right now.
Nobody wants to walk into a situation
where everybody's putting stuff on them.
It was a real negative vibe.
I don't want to be around
that kind of stuff.
-No, I want to go now.
-This is going to Don't walk away.
-I don't like it.
-You're walking away.
-You're breaking, like, the rules
-Boo!
No, everyone was ripping on me.
I'm going to go sit by myself.
[Jack] That's fine.
[Meg] It aggravates me
that Jeremy didn't stop it from happening.
He kind of allowed it to happen.
It was a slap in the face.
If any of my friends were to do that
about Jeremy, I'd be furious.
[narrator] The feedback
from Jeremy's mates
has hit Meg hard, and they're
back in their familiar war zone.
[Jeremy] Why do you have to walk away?
-Oh, Jeremy! Please leave me alone.
-I know it's a lot.
What? You don't want to talk to me?
No, I'm not in the mood
to be felt like crap by people.
So why, then, after that
do I have to get treated like shit by you.
-You're not getting treated like shit.
-You are.
You're pushing me away.
You're walking away.
It's us as a couple that need to change.
We need to, like,
be able to talk about things
and, like, not just walk
away from each other
-every time someone has something to say.
-[Meg] I'm not walking away from you,
[Meg] I'm walking away
from that situation.
I walk away for me.
I walk away to get my head around things.
It's made me upset. I feel sad.
I want to cry and I'm not into it.
-No, please don't.
-See?
And you say it's not affecting me and you.
I can't
No, I just want to be by myself.
Come back out and ask me if I'm okay.
Care about me. Ask me.
Be like, "Are you okay? What can I do?"
So I'll just have no friends.
I'll be happy with you?
Oh, my God, Jeremy. I'm not saying
that you can't have friends.
I'm saying I'm not dealing
with this situation.
-Why do you I'm going.
-You're walking away again.
-You're walking away.
-Because you're making it all about you.
-I'm trying to work it out.
-And you're annoying me!
You're annoying me.
What are you annoying me for?
You're so difficult, bro.
I'm not an easygoing person.
I'm either here or I'm up here.
[Meg] Jeremy's not
an easygoing person, either.
I don't know. It's still exactly the same.
[narrator] Over at Erik's, Lauren's
looking for ways to build bridges.
[Lauren] We really need to try
and work out what's going on here,
work through our differences.
I want him to try and understand
things from my point of view,
just as much as I'm trying
to understand from his point of view.
[narrator] So Lauren has written a letter
expressing her true feelings.
[Erik] I'm really not sure what to expect.
Worst-case scenario with this letter,
it could be a goodbye letter.
"Hey, Erik, I really hope
we can continue on to try and see
if we can really give it a genuine shot
of getting back together.
But if we're gonna give it a genuine go,
there needs to be 100% honesty.
Yes, there are so many things
about our past relationship
that I need to address.
One of the main things of this
was the appearance factor.
Everyone has their own likes and dislikes,
but I'm trying to gauge from you if you
would be happy with the way I am now.
But you won't even admit to the fact
that you did control
most aspects of my appearance.
Therefore, we can't move past this.
I'm feeling that this
may be all a shock to you
at the fact that I am now
standing my ground
and not letting things slide.
In the past, the old Lauren
would let everything slide,
as I did not want to upset you
or make you angry.
But I am not that girl anymore.
[voice breaking]
And I am now someone
who stands up for what they want
and has a lot of respect for myself
by not neglecting my own feelings.
I really do hope you will open up to me
and be completely honest
so we can see if we do have another chance
to reestablish our relationship again.
Lauren."
I'm glad it's not a letter saying goodbye.
It's basically a letter of saying,
"Hey, we've got stuff to sort out.
I'm sticking in for the long run.
Let's work it out."
So it was actually quite good.
I just need you to really know
that I need honesty and no lies.
I look at it in hindsight now,
and I shake my head at myself and say,
"What the hell? What was I doing?"
I've done wrong by her. I've hurt her.
I've damaged what we once upon a time had.
I want you to be able trust me
and not have any doubt.
-You have your doubts?
-Um
Look, of course I've got doubts,
but as I said I'm here, I'm willing
to give it a go, but it's Yeah.
I feel this is the real first conversation
that Lauren and I have actually had
since getting back together.
Small baby steps,
but steps in the right direction.
We are going to try and move forward.
But I've reminded him that although
I'm forgiving him, I'm not forgetting.
[narrator] It's action stations at Peter's,
as he and Diane prepare a family lunch.
What do you need my help with?
-I think I'm done. Salad's done.
-Yeah. What else do we have to chop?
Peter's kids are coming
to his house today,
and it's the first time
I'm going to meet 'em.
Don't put 'em in yet.
You need to heat the oven up first.
Oh, that's right. Of course. Sorry.
I'm starting to feel a little stressed.
Let's go ahead and start it, though.
Do you have cooking sheets?
Let's go ahead and set the table.
One, two, three.
It is important that Peter's kids like me.
Ultimately, I think it's a package deal.
If I'm in Peter's life,
then they're a part of the package.
I've got a little bit of nervous sweats,
so I'm just going
to dab myself down before they arrive.
I'm feeling, yes, a little nervous.
Kids are arriving any minute.
The more we do, the less I'm stressed.
I'm nervous for Diane as well,
'cause I know she's a little bit on edge.
Whoo.
I'm starting to feel quite a bit
of anxiety about meeting them. It's huge.
You get nervous,
I'll come squeeze your hand, okay?
We're good. We're a team. Okay?
It's paramount that the kids
and my partner get on.
I think that's critical.
I couldn't have it any other way.
All right.
[Diane] If I didn't like his kids
or he didn't like my kids,
that really is a huge deal-breaker.
That's just too difficult
to try to maneuver through.
There's the door. Oh. Speedy.
Hello, mate. How are you?
-I'm Abby.
-Nice to meet you, Abby. You're beautiful.
-Thank you. So are you. Oh, my God.
-Look at you. Oh!
I've never met
one of Dad's girlfriends before.
It is an important thing for me,
because my dad means everything to me.
-Do you do hugs or not?
-Yeah.
-You're okay with hugging me?
-I'm a hugger.
Okay. Nice to meet you.
I'll talk to you while I chop
for a minute, um, just to get to know you.
-You're beautiful. Oh, my God.
-So are you.
It was special to watch Abby and Diane
just chatting and getting on so well.
-And I actually dye my hair, too.
-Yeah. Black?
Yeah, this is not
Mine's more of a lighter brown.
-Yeah, mine's, like I dye it.
-So
I actually love the dark black.
I felt like Peter
had raised a beautiful daughter.
I was so impressed.
What are the main differences you've found
in Australia compared to America?
Well, driving
on the other side of the road.
That's tough.
I thought it was amazing
that Spencer made an effort to talk to me.
Most 14-year-old boys wouldn't do that.
-[all laughing]
-[Diane] Is that him?
That was how I remember him.
Do you guys do that?
Are you goofy with him like that?
-Oh, yeah.
-That's how I Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[Peter] I love my kids.
I was nervous as hell, as you can imagine.
I hope it all works out,
'cause I hope that she's the one,
and I hope everything turns out fine.
-It's been really good to meet you.
-You, too.
I'm really happy for you and you.
Both of you.
Having met his kids, and me liking them
and them liking me,
I definitely think
it moved our relationship forward.
One, two
[narrator] For Meg and Jeremy,
it's make-or-break time.
[Jeremy] I'm pissed off right now.
It's just so hard to try
and work it out with her.
FIFA?
FIFA.
-What's going on?
-You're ignoring me.
-No.
-No?
-What you been doing?
-Do you want to talk about it?
-Talk about what?
-Talk about your feelings.
No.
Her moods wear me down heaps.
She was so angry before,
but then she just comes back a couple
of hours later with a smile on her face.
Why do all of a sudden
I have to talk to you now?
Well, then you don't have to talk to me.
[clears throat]
[Meg] It wasn't a nice situation
to walk into.
Nobody was happy that I was there.
I didn't feel comfortable.
I didn't like what was happening.
You didn't even say anything.
You just walked away. It's typical Meg.
I honestly don't even care anymore.
Okay. Well, then, there you go.
He ends every conversation
with, "I don't care."
Who wants to be told
that they're not cared about? No one.
-You've been so painful.
-I just I can't.
-See? You're walking away again.
-I'm not talking to you.
-I don't even get a chance to talk.
-You told me you don't care.
I don't give a shit, then.
We're just going to start all the way back
from where we were,
and you're just going
to not give a fuck anymore.
I come back
and I try and apologize to him,
like I've done something wrong to him.
I haven't done anything wrong to him.
Well, you never change, mate.
You haven't changed at all.
Look, you're walking away again.
You can't deal with anything.
If this is what
it's going to come to every time,
if there's something like this,
I don't want this in my life.
[Meg] I don't know why I keep going back.
[theme music playing]
