You need fire to get you higher on the chart.
After each duet, the superstars who didn't perform give a secret score to the amateurs based on the performance and presentation.
You were an awesome performer today.
It was incredible.
The scores are combined, and then the amateurs' rank on the chart is revealed for all to see.
You need to bring the sexy, Jason! Come on! Some are rising to the occasion Beautiful.
While others Unh-unh.
Are falling behind.
It hurts 'cause I don't know how to get better.
And tonight I'm blown away.
I can't wait to hear your album.
That wasn't as impressive.
I felt like she could've stretched a little bit.
The bottom two will have to sing for their life.
I don't want it to be me.
I'm so glad I'm on Jennifer nettles' team.
In an a capella showdown, and the first amateur will go home.
I've already dropped out of school.
I quit my two jobs.
It's an all or nothing night.
We're gonna murder it.
Yes! And in just three weeks, we go live, when you, America, will vote to decide who stays and who goes.
All this and more on abc's "Duets.

Thank you, everybody.
Welcome to "Duets.
" I'm your host Quddus, and trust me, if you liked that performance, there is plenty more where that came from tonight on this "Duets" stage.
But before we go any further, let's hear it for the superstars responsible for that unbelievable duet John legend and miss Jennifer nettles.
And, of course, with front row seats in their superstar lounges, give it up for Kelly clarkson Whoo! And over here, we got Mr.
Robin thicke.
So before our superstars and amateurs grab their Mikes and perform tonight, let's take a look at what happened last week on "Duets.
" Ooh, ooh, honey, the one that I want Jennifer nettles and J.
Rome were back at the top of the charts The one I need oh, yes, indeed You get a 10 for your your presence and a 10 for your pelvic thrusting.
And he's an expert on the matter.
While John glosson's big voice was left in the middle of the pack.
Ain't no Mountain high enough You had started to copy some of Jennifer's moves, and and what's wrong with that? I got some moves.
They look a little different on a man, though.
Robin thicke and Olivia were left asking Where is the love? I didn't love the song.
It was just kinda boring.
As both he and Kelly's amateurs were at the bottom of the chart.
Oh I feel there's a little bit of nerves here.
You know what? He doesn't know how sexy he is.
He doesn't even know that.
But it was John legend that blew the house away.
When the river was deep I didn't falter Pfft.
All those runs you were doing? Whatever.
And John's last-minute replacement electrified the stage.
You'll be the only one We've to the show.
Thank you.
Thank you.
It's an amazing song, and you guys sounded beautiful together.
You paid great homage to the lady Ross.
Endless love Oh, yes, the stakes are high.
We've got ourselves a competition.
And tonight is a very meaningful night.
Our amateurs will honor the artists and songs that have inspired them.
And the pressure could not be any greater because at the end of the show, one of them will be going home.
Robin, your two amateurs fell Yes.
Down the chart last week.
Yes.
What was your approach this week? How did that make you feel? Well, you know, uh, falling is good because, uh, it it creates humility and it makes you have to, uh, come to terms with whatever you're not doing right and you have to improve.
And I think, uh, you know, we're we're the underdog.
We're team underdog over here.
We're the wolfpack.
Okay.
The underdog wolfpack.
We're gonna fight this week.
Okay.
So looking forward to seeing that.
Well, with very little time to rehearse this week's song, let's see how Robin and his first duet partner Alexis foster handled the pressure.
It's time for some girl talk.
Okay.
First of all, most importantly, we gotta have fun.
Do you know what I mean? Like, we have to walk out on that stage not trying to win, not trying to be better than another person, but just to give.
I had to sit both of the girls down to have a pep talk because I really felt their fear.
Yesterday is over.
The person that gets knocked down and doesn't get back up, that's the only one who fails.
Last week was tough to be sixth.
I'm feeling the competition heat up, and someone has to go home this week, and I don't want it to be me.
We're the underdogs.
I'm the underdog on the show.
I'm the least known on the show.
You know what I mean? I'm the only one that's never that never plays on pop radio.
So good, I got my underdogs.
Let's fight from the bottom.
Okay, let's go.
That's the best place to start.
I was born an underdog.
You know what I mean? They don't tell you at the beginning that you're gonna make it.
They all they'll tell you a hundred times you can't make it.
So I wanted to remind them, Olivia and Alexis, you guys love music.
You love to sing.
You always wanted to be on stage.
Here's your stage.
Don't be afraid now.
Go up there and take control of it.
And Strumming my pain with his fingers I love "killing me softly.
" It's a really inspirational song.
It's actually about inspiring somebody through song.
Let's have some fun.
Killing me softly with his song Robin was really excited when we had our rehearsal.
Strumming my pain pain with With his fingers I told you we were gonna have fun today.
I was trying not to laugh.
He was kind of throwing me off, but he reminded me that I just need to have fun like that.
Let's dance around a little.
whoa Alexis just has to have fun because that's what I think she's missing, is she feels so much pressure, she's just blanking out when it's time to hit the stage.
This is our moment.
We gotta go I try to treat every performance like it's my last.
Yeah, let's let's let's let's pretend we going home.
What are you gonna do about it? You're gonna give it everything you got.
Mm-hmm.
So let's pretend we going home and this and this is your your swan song.
My farewell.
I am up there thinking, okay, I'm safe tonight.
That's what I thought about last week.
And I should've been thinking, okay, I might be going home.
And if I had that mentality, I would've just let go and performed at my best.
Give it everything.
Right? Yes.
Let's get out of here.
Hop, skip, and a jump.
Okay.
Whoo! Whoo! "Duets"! Whoo! Oh, my God! We'll get to see Robin and Alexis in our first duet of the night.
And coming up later, Kelly clarkson takes on Leonard Cohen's "hallelujah," John legend performs an Alicia keys smash hit.
One amateur will be sent home tonight.
It's do or die.
You're watching "Duets" on abc.
Welcome back to "Duets.
" I'm your host Quddus.
And we got our amateurs paying homage to the artists and the songs that inspire them.
And don't forget, at the end of tonight's show, two amateurs at the bottom of the chart will sing for their lives in our very first solo showdown, and someone will be sent home.
But right now, starting us off with "killing me softly," here's Robin thicke and his first duet partner Alexis foster.
strumming my pain with his fingers singing my life with his words killing me softly with his song killing me softly with his song telling my whole life with his words killing me softly with his song I heard he sang a good song I heard he had a style and so I came to see him and listen for a while and there he was, this young boy stranger to my eye strumming my pain with his fingers singing my life with his words killing me softly with his song killing me softly with his song telling my whole life with his words killing me softly with his song whoa, oh, oh, oh whoa-oh oh-oh, oh, oh, oh, oh LA-LA LA, LA, LA, LA whoa, oh, oh LA, LA, LA whoa, oh LA, ah ah, ah unh, unh, unh, unh LA ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah strumming my pain with his fingers yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah singing my life with his words singing, oh, oh, oh killing me softly with his song killing me Robin, you're killing me killing me softly you're killing me with his song yeah, yeah telling my whole life with his words words killing me softly killing me killing me with his song Just a little hot.
It's a little hot.
Yeah, it was a little hot.
But that was partly because Robin thicke was who you were singing with, right? I think that's I think that's what it was.
Whoo! So how was that? I mean, "killing me softly" what a timeless song.
Roberta flack sung it in the '70s, the Jackson 5 sung it Vandross.
Luther vandross, and now Alexis foster.
Yeah.
You know, try to put my spin on it.
Uh-huh.
Did you feel like you did that? Yes! I love that song.
I love that song.
Okay.
Did y'all feel it? Let's let's tell her.
Well, let's see if the superstars agree with you.
John? Alexis, your voice sounded great.
It sounds clear as a bell.
Uh, you looked good up there.
It was well done.
Well done.
Thank you.
All right.
Kelly? First of all, on stage, you're just a delight.
You're so fun to look at, you're captivating, beautiful.
I am a huge fan of the lauryn hill version of that.
I don't know.
I It's the same thing.
I don't know if it's, like, I don't feel like you and Robin really connect well.
There's something awkward.
I don't know what it is, and I can't pinpoint it.
She does sound a little bit different, though, I will say, 'cause especially this time from the last at least from the last I thought there was growth from the past performance.
Oh, I definitely think there was growth.
And there was, like, handholding and she was having fun and looking into the eyes.
So I performance-wise, I definitely saw some growth on that.
I definitely did see the growth.
Thank you.
I just mean, like or maybe next time, like, don't, like, stare at him the whole time.
I'd rather see you.
I'd rather see you perform here.
Like, I'd rather no, I love Robin.
I love obviously he is beautiful.
Look at him.
When it's your time to shine during the son, I'd love for you to face the audience and address us.
Like, I'd just love that.
Thank you.
I'm gonna work on that.
I'm gonna work on that.
Okay.
Okay.
So here's a reminder of how the scoring works.
The three superstars who didn't just perform right now that's John, Kelly, and Jennifer have just entered a secret score on their "Duets" tablet between 1 and 100, based on performance and presentation.
After each amateur performs, we'll add those up and reveal where they stand on our chart.
The better your singing, the better your standing.
It ain't rocket science, people.
All right, now it's time to see where you are on the chart.
Okay.
I think it's good.
You know, we've So we broke out the dramatic lights and the music, but it's no surprise, Alexis, that, uh, since you kicked off the show you're in the number one spot.
Uh, we'll find out over the course of the night if your performance was good enough to stay out of the bottom two and keep you safe.
Best of luck, all right? You can head over to the lounge now.
Thank you.
Thank you.
All right, Jennifer nettles and John glosson take us to church with "how great thou art," and we got six more amateurs gearing up to take the stage.
Don't go anywhere.
This is "Duets" on abc.
Welcome back to "Duets.
" Up next is Jennifer nettles and her duet partner John glosson.
For John, today has a significant meaning.
Let's take a look at what inspired his song choice this week.
I wanna focus on your voice Okay.
That's good.
Is what I wanna do.
Ain't no Mountain high enough Last week was very fun, but this week is all about getting to know my partners even more and what really inspires them.
Let's talk about this week.
Yeah.
Okay.
I've chosen "how great thou art," which I auditioned for you with And all that good stuff.
Yeah.
And I loved it.
This song has always meant a lot to me growing up but it's even more special, um, because I found out that today is the day that my mom found out she was pregnant with me.
The very next day, um, my mom and dad lost their oldest son he was 8 years old to leukemia.
She's like, "you're not a replacement" Mm-hmm.
She said, "but such a blessing.
" Even in The worst times, there is grace in sorrow.
Exactly.
To sing a song that's so important to my family, to my heritage, to what I had growing up, to be able to sing it now, um, for America is something that's very, very, very special to me.
My savior God to thee how great Keep going.
Thou art! Sorry.
You should've never told me the story! How great You have to be vulnerable in a duet and be able to go to a certain place musically and emotionally with the story that one is telling.
And so I trust my partners and want them to be a part of it because this is gonna be their win.
I just get the joy of holding the flashlight, as we say in Nashville.
John, now you had some ideas regarding starting out the song a capella, which I think is a genius idea.
Both of us weren't really sure about an arrangement.
I don't want it to sound cheesy.
I don't want to sound like a funeral.
I thought it might be cool if it was sorta, like, tamed a little bit.
Just sorta you know, just real beautiful.
Yeah.
She let me go for it, and Hopefully it'll work.
My sav I tend to want to leave the phrase over.
Okay, just keep it yeah.
Okay.
And I think you're one to stop and take a breath.
Yeah.
Either is fine.
We just need to make a decision.
Uh, let's lead into it.
Okay.
I mean, let's go over it, yeah.
Okay.
I like that he was taking the reins.
That felt pretty good for Yeah.
It's long.
How long? You can't rush Jesus! Oh, you guys, I'm so glad I'm on Jennifer nettles' team.
) It sounds great.
It sounds great.
I love it.
This week, I would like to dedicate this song to my parents and definitely to, you know, a brother that one day I'll meet.
Singing "how great thou art," here's Jennifer nettles and her duet partner John glosson.
o, lord, my God when I, in awesome wonder consider all the world thy hands have made I see the stars I hear the rolling thunder thy power throughout the universe displayed then sings my soul my savior God to thee how great thou art! how great thou art! when Christ shall came with shouts of acclamation and take me home what joy shall fill my heart! then sings my soul my savior God to thee how great thou art! how great thou art! then sings my soul my savior God to thee oh, to thee how great thou art! how great thou art! how great thou art! how great thou art! Yeah, John! Get it! Powerful stuff.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Was there ever any point in that performance where you almost lost it 'Cause you were emotional? Mm, not not tonight, but practicing and just thinking about it, you know, sort of gets you emotional.
Yeah.
Yes.
Okay, so last week's notes were kinda harsh, about how it was a fun performance but a little cheesy.
This seems like more in your wheelhouse.
You felt a little bit more comfortable? Yeah, more comfortable.
Cheesy's not always bad, though.
Nope.
It's not.
It's not.
I agree.
It can be very endearing.
And, of course, Jennifer agrees.
Well, let's hear what our superstars have to say about that performance.
Kelly? Um, I'm just secretly trying to figure out how to get you kicked off the show 'Cause you're too damn good! You're so good.
Oh, thank you.
And I cannot I mean, great job on finding someone that I mean, y'all sound like y'all have been singing together forever.
Like Hey, that was Oh.
Thank you.
That was awesome.
You are I mean, obvious and the "can't wait" " "nobody waits for Jesus," whatever you said in that package was hilarious.
You can't rush Jesus.
Can't rush Jesus.
You can't rush Jesus.
Yeah.
No, man, great job.
I have no pfft.
That was so good, I can't stand you.
Robin? Uh, you know, I-I have a 2-year-old boy myself.
You know, shout-out to juju, my little boy, wherever the camera is.
Yeah! But, uh, you know, so, uh, I was definitely thinking of my son and thinking about your family and and how much, uh, you know, family means and what God means, and, uh, and you gave me every feeling that I needed to feel when you sang that song.
Congratulations.
You did a wonderful job.
Thank you.
Thank you.
John, did he make you feel? Oh, I felt everything.
Um, I can't believe y'all are from the same town in Georgia.
It's it's amazing.
It's pretty crazy.
Douglas is very underrated.
It's amazing.
Y'all sounded so beautiful together.
The arrangement was gorgeous.
This is a perfect place for your voice.
I felt everything.
I've heard that song many, many times in church, but you all delivered such a wonderful version of it.
You should be proud.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Can we get an amen? Amen! Well, we've heard from our superstars.
Now the scores are locked in.
Let's see what position you are on the chart.
Oh.
Right up at the top.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Congratulations.
Now you can join your superstar in your lounge.
Now Kelly clarkson and Jordan Meredith's turn is coming up, to take the stage with a song from Miranda lambert.
Don't go anywhere.
You are watching "Duets" on abc.
Later tonight I k both of you were a little pitchy, but I think you're nervous.
The bottom two amateurs will sing for their lives in an a capella solo showdown.
Both of you have to decide right now that you're a singer for the rest of your life.
Who will survive, and who will be going home? Before the break, John performed and jumped into the number one position on the chart.
But there's still six more amateurs waiting to take the stage.
Up next, Kelly clarkson has begun to see a lot of herself in her partner Jordan Meredith.
With little to fall back on for Jordan, it's all or nothing.
So take a look at how they handled this week's rehearsal.
So after last week, how do you think you did? I thought I sounded really good Yeah? But I get nervous, so then I get out there and I'm like Yeah.
Like, I-I feel like I can't move like I want to, and then I-I feel like I look funny.
That's terrifying.
I really, really want this.
Yeah.
And, like It hurts 'cause I don't know how to get better.
I wanna do really well in this competition because it's what I've wanted to do for a really long time.
I'm singing with Kelly clarkson like, my idol, the person I've always dreamed to do this with.
I'm not ready to let that go.
The only thing I have to go home to is my bartending job, 'cause I dropped out of scol and I quit my serving job.
Okay You're just making me cry because you're like my life before I started singing professionally.
I lived out here in L.
A.
, and I literally had nothing.
Like, my apartment burned down.
Like, I had to move back home.
I lived in my car for three days.
I had nothing to lose.
And with nothing to lose, you're just like You know what? If it doesn't work, I'm kind of sunk.
So I need that to fuel you.
I see that fire in her and I see that desire, and I just see a little me.
I wish somebody would've helped me when I was that age, so I love being able to do that for her.
I cut my bangs with some rusty kitchen scissors I screamed his This week, we are doing "mama's broken heart" by Miranda lambert.
I love her, no secret, and she loves her.
That's one of her biggest inspirations.
It has so much sass, so it's almost gonna force her to come out of her shell.
They think that you're going to fail at stage presence.
Look all those little mothers in the eye and be like, "what?" Kelly keeps trying to push me to, like, really sell it Go and fix your makeup girl, it's just a breakup, run and hide The vocals, the performance, the attitude, the oomph, everything.
Broken heart Aah! Yes! Do that! And you're gonna get on camera and you're gonna be like, "ew, it's so embarrassing.
Oh, my God.
" But don't do that! Okay.
Just sell it! Jordan is still a firm "I can't.
" She was like, "you know, I feel like I just don't wanna look stupid.
" And I'm like, "you're gonna look stupid if you get kicked off the show.
" I'm just not afraid to look stupid.
I'll stand up here and be like I cut my bangs with some rusty kitchen scissors "I'm comin' after ya!" I don't even care if people think I'm crazy.
So that's the difference.
Like, I just don't care.
You know, where she is lacking isn't her voice.
It's her presence.
Be crazy like me.
Ohh! Okay.
And I think that's what we've worked on and that's what she's gonna show this week Or I'm gon' kick her butt.
Let's see if she shows it.
Performing Miranda lambert's "mama's broken heart," here is Kelly clarkson and her duet partner Jordan Meredith.
I cut my bangs with some rusty kitchen scissors screamed Robin's name till the neighbors called the cops I numbed the pain at the expense of my liver don't know what I did next all I know, I couldn't stop word got around to the barflies and the baptists ah, ah my mama's phone started ringin' off the hook I can hear her now saying she ain't gonna have it "it don't matter how you feel, it only matters how you look" go and fix your makeup, girl, it's just a breakup run and hide your crazy and start actin' like a lady 'cause I raised you better, gotta keep it together even when you fall apart this ain't my mama's broken heart wish I could be just a little less dramatic like a Kennedy when Camelot went down in flames leave it to me to be holding the matches when the fire trucks show up and there's nobody else to blame go and fix your makeup, girl, it's just a breakup run and hide your crazy and start actin' like a lady 'cause I raised you better, gotta keep it together even when you fall apart this ain't my mama's broken heart powder your nose, paint your toes line your lips and keep 'em closed cross your legs, dot your I's never let 'em see you cry go and fix your makeup, girl, it's just a breakup run and hide your crazy and start actin' like a lady 'cause I raised you better, gotta keep it together even when you fall apart this ain't my mama's broken heart mama's broken heart One more time.
Okay.
Let's just go down the list of things that you did this week.
Okay.
The most revealing outfit you've pulled out so far.
Yeah! For sure.
You went up to all of the superstars, got all up in they grilles.
Uh-huh.
Robin got a little flustered, I think.
That was something else.
Did you feel like you had to take it there? Uh, yeah, I did, 'cause I feel like they can hear me sing, but they can't see me, like show it.
Yeah.
They can't see me perform the song, - so there you go.
- There you go.
Barefooted and everything, too.
Well, it's time now to hear what the superstars thought of your performance.
Let's go to John first.
Wow! Wow, wow, wow.
I love it.
I love all the energy you're projecting.
You look like a rock star.
Thank you.
You carried yourself like a star, like you belong here.
I was so impressed.
It was such a dramatic improvement.
You just looked like you wanted to own this place, and you did it Thank you.
And you sounded great, too, so congratulations.
Thank you.
Whoo! Robin, we saw you at one point get a little playful with her.
So I'm thinking, you liked it? Well, yeah.
She looks tasty as pie right now.
Hey now! All right.
You're lucky I'm taken.
No, you look.
Oh, my.
You, uh, you were sultry and sexy and gorgeous.
It was a whole new person.
I'm I'm I'm very, very excited.
Very excited.
Thank you.
All right.
Jennifer? I loved it.
Of course, I loved that you chose that song.
I mean, you you looked and had the attitude of a rock star, but you sounded like a country star on this song.
I loved 'cause I could hear you on this performance.
I actually could hear her voice, you know, when she was singing, distinctly from Kelly's.
I thought it was fantastic.
I love the attitude.
You took the notes, you took the criticism of last week and you grew in this performance, and I love that.
I thought it was wonderful.
Thank you.
Thank you.
So now you know what time it is Yeah.
To see if all of that adds up to a good score on our chart.
Have a look.
There you are.
Number 2.
Congratulations.
I'll take it.
I'll take it.
Yeah.
Not bad at all.
All right.
So you can head over All right.
And feel good about that in the superstar lounge.
Whoo! You know, that also means that, John, tonight you are safe.
John legend takes the stage with meleana brown.
And last week she delivered a chart-topping performance, but will her cinderella story continue? Find out when we get back.
You're waiting "Duets" on abc.
Welcome back to "Duets," where our theme tonight is songs and artists that inspire our amateurs.
Up next, let's take a look at John legend's rehearsal with last week's chart-topping amateur meleana brown.
Meleana.
Hey.
Number one.
I know.
Number one.
A good team.
And how's it feel? Oh, my gosh.
It's amazing.
Yes, and it happened so fast.
They tell me how much you care Meleana was incredible last week.
She came in in a whirlwind of excitement and nervousness, because she was brought on this show at the very last minute.
I expected her to do well.
I did not expect her to be number one on her first show.
It's pretty incredible.
This show is all about picking a song that means something to you and inspires you, and we decided on "If I ain't got you.
" "If I ain't got you" Yes.
By Alicia keys, but during auditions, when you sang this one, this is what made me decide I had to call you back.
Some people want diamond rings Beautiful.
The lyrics of the song just means a lot to me.
Mm-hmm.
Um, when it says, "some people search for a fountain that promises forever young," it just made me realize that we should live for today Mm-hmm.
And enjoy what we have today.
Yeah, enjoy what we have.
A tornado really picked me up, and now I'm in LA-LA land, in a dream, in a fairy tale that I never expected.
So hand me the world on a silver platter and what good would it be This is more than a dream.
It's I hadn't even dreamt this.
Singing the Alicia keys grammy award-winning hit, "if I ain't got you," here is John legend and his first duet partner meleana brown.
some people live for the fortune some people live just for the fame some people live for the power some people live just to play the game some people think that the physical things define what's within I've been there before and that life's a bore so full of the superficial some people want it all but I don't want nothing at all if it ain't you, baby if I ain't got you, baby some people want diamond rings some just want everything but everything means nothing if ain't got you some people search for a fountain yeah, that promises forever young some people need three dozen roses and that's the only way to prove you love them well, hand me the world hand me the world on a silver platter and what good would it be with no one to share and no one who truly cares for me? some people want it all but I don't want nothing at all if it ain't you, baby if I ain't got you, baby some people want diamond rings some just want everything but everything means nothing if I ain't got you ooh if I ain't got you with me, baby oh ooh yeah Seems like your boy John's very proud of you.
As he should be.
Last week, you shot up right to the top of our charts in your first time out.
Were you surprised by that at all? I was very surprised, 'cause I was, um, I worked really hard on practicing, and I know I was really nervous, so I was very surprised on on how they, uh, rated me.
Kelly, was that the soul that you were looking for last week? That was the soul.
No, I love and you can tell you love that song.
You can tell you've sung it many times I don't know if you have, but it sounded like you had.
But my favorite part of your voice is when you do the head voice stuff just And it's, like, all that, like, light stuff, 'cause when you get big, it tends to get a little nasally for me, but, man, that soft stuff that is pfft.
That's gorgeous.
It's it that was very well done.
Y'all have a natural Mm-hmm.
Both of you have a natural grace, like, that is a very nice chemistry, and, like, it seems like y'all have been singing together for a while.
That wasn't there was nothing awkward.
- It was good.
Yeah.
- Maybe they have.
Yeah.
Conspiracy theory? Jennifer, what are you thinking? At first at at the very beginning, I was a little bit like, "ooh, okay, come on," like, "let let's get on solid ground," and then you really opened up, and when you really go into those big notes, I love it 'cause you feel so confident to me whenever you do it, and your presentation I saw you not only like, you I saw you make conscious choices of getting into the song, your interplay with John, but then you also said, "mm, I'm supposed to turn out here and give it to the audience.
" So you seemed like a seasoned performer to me in presentation.
- I loved it.
- Super comfortable.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You're super comfortable.
Even when he's singing, you were, like you were, like, saying, "yes," 'cause the lyrics meant something to you.
Yeah.
Super comfortable.
Robin, last week you had Some interesting comments about her.
You compared her to the sandwich that you had before the show.
Well, I-I'm obviously in the mood for a little dessert Ooh! And, uh, and, yeah oh, again.
I just teed it up, just put it out there for you.
No, no.
It's it's fine.
She's she's wonderful, and it's a great song choice.
She's she's meant to sing that song, and I-I thought it I think she's lovely.
It was beautiful.
Absolutely.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
So we've heard from our superstars, and now we get to see what they scored for you.
Let's check out your position on the chart.
Okay.
You ended up at number 3.
Not terrible.
Not at the bottom.
You can go ahead, talk to John about all that.
Thank you, meleana.
And that actually means that, Jordan, you are safe this week.
Yeah.
Go ahead.
Hug it out.
Robin thicke and Olivia chisholm take on beyoncé and Jay-Z's "crazy in love.
" We'll see if the flow is loco for young Olivia right after the break.
You're watching "Duets" on abc.
Welcome back to "Duets.
" Tonight is a very special night because our amateurs are honoring the songs and the artists that have inspired them.
Up next, let's take a look at my personal inspiration, Robin thicke, as he rehearses with his second duet partner Olivia chisholm.
Hey, sweetie pie.
Hello.
How are you doing? Good.
All right.
Are you ready to take beyoncé's shoes for a day? I am ready.
Let's pretend beyoncé is retired.
Okay.
She quit.
She's handing over the Baton to you.
You're the new beyoncé.
Last week, when I came out on stage, I didn't give my all.
the love where is the love where is the love There was something inside of me holding me back.
Just trying to get through it and, you know, have fun.
Just trying to get through it? Not get through it.
Sounded like homework for a second there.
You're crazy, my baby I'm not myself lately I'm I am very disappointed in myself.
I just have to stop letting my mind get in the way of my actions.
Got me you got me Come on.
Olivia's got it all to be a star.
She's got the looks.
She's got the voice.
Her biggest hurdle is just, uh, her confidence.
Come on.
Yeah! I picked "crazy in love" by beyoncé and Jay-Z because beyoncé's fearless, so I figured, let me pick the most fearless performer and the most fearless song, and she won't have a choice but to come out of her shell.
You got me lookin' so crazy in love Going into this week, I'm really nervous because I'm at the bottom of the charts.
I'm number eight, and I have to figure out a way that I can come back up.
You're still just a little scared of it.
The only way to really make this work is the fun of it.
got me lookin' so crazy right now that was good.
That was good.
You're love's got me lookin' so crazy right now you're feelin' it.
Go.
You're feelin' it now.
Go.
got me lookin' so crazy right now your love's got me lookin' so crazy right now hold on.
Stop everything.
Something happened in band rehearsal.
My Booty started shakin'.
That's the first time that I've seen you move like that.
Where was all of that Booty shakin'? There was just this one moment where she finally did a dance move.
Whoo! That's what I'm talking about! That's what the whole world wants to see.
Robin gave me some really good advice this week to just constantly stay moving on the stage and don't stop, just be free.
That's letting it go.
That's not being afraid.
She was just hiding all of her ability to move Great.
There we go, liv.
And now that she's embracing her sensuality, I think she could be something special.
Love you, liv.
Love you, too.
I have to get out of my shell and embrace being beyoncé on stage and have fun.
Will we see a whole lot of Booty shakin'? We're about to find out.
Singing the beyoncé and Jay-Z hit "crazy in love," give it up for Robin thicke and his duet partner Olivia chisholm.
Yes, sir! It's so crazy right now! Most incredibly.
It's your girl o.
C.
And your boy young thicke.
Let's go.
I look and stare so deep in your eyes I touch on you more and more every time when you leave, I'm begging you not to go call your name two, three times in a row it's such a funny thing for me to try to explain how I'm feeling, and my pride is the one to blame but you still don't understand just how your love will do what no one else can got me lookin' so crazy right now Yeah, that's right, America.
your love's got me lookin' so crazy right now We got o.

Got me lookin' unh so crazy crazy my baby baby I'm not myself lately I'm foolish foolish I don't do this do this I've been playing myself playing myself baby, I don't care I don't care 'cause your love's got the best of me but, baby, you're makin' a fool of me makin' a fool of me yeah, I'm sprung sprung and I don't care who sees 'cause, baby, you got me you got me you got me baby, you've got me whoo! Lookin' so crazy, your love's got me lookin' got me lookin' so crazy in love Okay.
Okay, Olivia.
You have this sparkle in your eye when you perform and you're enjoying it.
It's beautiful.
It really is.
It was fun.
I had so much fun.
It looked like you had a good time.
Last week, they were a little bit harsh on you They were, yeah.
And you ended up at the very bottom of the chart.
Mm-hmm.
It kinda makes me wonder, did you approach this week completely differently? Did you try to flip the script? I did.
I just wanted to have fun and just Okay.
Think positive at the end of the day.
Okay.
Yeah, that goes a long way.
Well, let's hear from our superstars.
Jennifer? I-I could tell you were having fun Just like just like Quddus said.
It looked so much fun.
I wanted to get up there like I was like I-I just I loved it, and you sounded great, and the difference between last week and this week, not only in your presentation, 'cause that was, like, obvious, but also in your vocals.
I thought it was gr I'm blown away.
Thank you.
Thank you.
I thought it was wonderful.
Really.
But, you know, in all fairness, it doesn't take much to get you going like that.
Well, that's true.
I will.
Okay.
You know, it doesn't take much.
Okay.
Kelly? Oh, my gosh.
I think first of all, I-I loved that.
That just to start with, I think you are so great.
Thank you.
I think the fact that I stared at you the whole time, instead of dancers who are professionally trained to dance, I think that's amazing in itself Thank you.
And I just think, with your voice being so special how it is, it sounds so special, and you got real big, I love that Robin pushed you to do this song, because this song is so big Mm-hmm.
And you didn't sound as sweet and, like, s-sultry as usual.
Mm-hmm.
You sounded bigger and, like, and bolder, and I think, man, once I'm just I can't wait to hear your album.
That's I just can't wait to see what you do.
Thank you.
Okay.
Thank you.
Putting that in the universe.
John.
Your legs.
Your legs.
That was great.
I really loved the way you opened up.
You really just embraced that whole persona and really lived it, and it it felt like a whole 'nother person from last week.
Yeah.
I think I think vocally I wasn't as impressed, I think, as you guys were.
I thought you kind of, you know, it was cool, but you looked like you were having more fun than you were singing Yeah.
But it's all good.
It it looked great, and it was awesome.
Great performance.
Thank you.
You didn't think she got a little bigger? I thought your voice got a little bigger.
I know you skipped out on some of the high stuff, but, like, you made it your own I felt like she could've stretched I thought.
A little bit, but beyoncé is a high standard, you know? Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, I will say that.
She is a high standard.
Everybody knows that, right? Okay.
Well, let's see Yeah.
What that all equated to in terms of your score on the chart.
Okay.
Okay.
You're number 4 Number 4.
So you can go ahead, join Robin in the superstar lounge.
Okay.
Thank you.
So, meleana, congratulations.
You're safe.
Someone takes on the 1989 Michael Bolton hit "how am I supposed to live without you," and later, two of our amateurs face off in the first-ever solo showdown.
This is "Duets" on abc.
Tonight, for the first time, the two amateurs at the bottom of the chart It was a little pitchy sometimes.
It felt just a little bit shaky.
Will be in our solo showdown, singing a ppella no band, no backup, with everything on the line.
Just because you don't make it on this show does not mean that you are not a great singer.
Who will survive, and who will be sent home for good? Welcome back to the "Duets" stage.
Right now John glosson is at the top of the chart, with Olivia and Alexis in jeopardy in the bottom two.
Up next is Jennifer and her duet partner J.
Rome's turn, and tonight, J.
Rome's dedicating his performance to his biggest fan.
How are you today? Good.
What song have you selected for this week? I wanted to do "how am I supposed to live without you.
" Mm-hmm.
Um, the reason I chose that is because my mother used to tell me that my grandfather was always saying, "how's the superstar doing?" You know, always asking about me, 'cause he was a singer, too.
Sweet.
I am dedicating this week's performance to my grandpa.
He passed away not too long ago, and we had a very strong connection.
My last memory of him is is when he was in the nursing home, and he had had a couple strokes, but, um, he He sang with me.
I once was lost We sang "amazing grace," and, um And that was the last time I saw him.
I love your connection to this song.
I love hearing your story.
It gives me a-a deeper insight into who you are.
I was very touched in that I got to learn a little bit more about J.
Rome this week through his song selection.
How am I supposed to live without you Nice.
Whew.
You all right? "How am I supposed to live without you" that's big.
Those are big questions and big, vulnerable, life hard realities, and he felt that all in that moment.
He's gonna be so proud.
He will be watching and so proud when we're there.
Real good, boo.
Thank you.
Singing Michael Bolton's "how am I supposed to live without you," here is Jennifer nettles and her last duet partner J.
Rome.
I could hardly believe it when I heard the news today I had to come and get it straight from you they said you were leaving someone swept your heart away from that look upon your face I see it's true so tell me all about it tell me 'bout the plans you're makin' whoa tell me one thing more before I go tell me how am I supposed tlive without you now that I've been lovin' you so long? how am I supposed to live without you? and how am I supposed to carry on when all that I've been living for is gone? I'm too proud for cryin' I didn't come here to break down it's just this dream of mine is comin' to an end and how can I blame you when I built my world around the hope that one day we'd be so much more than friends? now I don't want to know the price I'm gonna pay for dreamin' oh now that your dream has come true tell me how am I supposed to live without you now that I've been lovin' you so long? how am I supposed to live without you? and how am I supposed to carry on when all that I've been living for is gone? It's all right, man.
It's all right.
It's all right.
Take your time.
Hey, you know he's proud, right? All right.
J.
Rome, everybody.
Man.
What's going through your head right now? I mean, is this is this It's just a reminder that he's not here.
That's all, but I'm I'm just I wish he was, that he would have seen this, so You're carrying on his legacy, though, right? Yeah.
Yeah.
Take that in, man.
Take that in.
All right.
Time to talk to the superstars.
John, what do you make of that? What can I say after that? I mean, I'm running out of nice things to say about J.
Rome.
He's such a phenomenal vocalist, um, and the feeling in that song, just the story, everything.
This is, like, the tearjerker episode.
I-I can't take it anymore.
Robin.
Uh, yeah.
Yeah.
Thank you.
Kelly, I see what it's doing to you.
I hate this.
I could not even keep it together.
None of my people could, either.
Team k.
C.
We love you.
We all of us.
I mean, Jason's over here just rootin' for you.
I love this show.
I think he's so good.
Thank you, Kelly.
You're so good.
I hate you.
I love you.
I'm just kidding.
All right.
No, I love you.
I'm being funny.
I'm being funny.
So we've heard from the superstars.
Let's have a look at your position on the chart.
Thank you, guys.
Congratulations, J.
Rome.
Thank you.
Baby.
Baby.
So, Jennifer, just real quick, Jennifer, what did that mean for you, performing with a man like that at a moment like that? Well, I'm honored, you know what I'm saying? I mean, that was a dedication for his grandfather.
It was something that he felt so deeply connected to, and I'm just honored to get to be a part of it.
Yeah.
Absolutely.
Well, when we come back, how will Kelly and Jason farol do when they take on the inspirational classic "hallelujah"? You'll see after the break.
Thank you.
Thank you, and welcome back to the "Duets" stage.
Right now on our chart, J.
Rome, John glosson, Jordan, meleana are all safe, while Olivia and Alexis are in the bottom two and in danger of leaving us tonight.
Up next, it's Kelly and her duet partner Jason farol's turn.
After finishing in the bottom two both weeks, Jason was in need of some inspiration, and that came in the person that he least expected.
You have an amazing voice.
It is a God-given tone.
What's holding you back? Like, what is the fear? I'm just, like, trying to please everybody.
I think I just get caught up in my head.
I think just from the beginning of watching Jason submit his first video Right now my parents' main focus for me is to is to pay attention to school.
I don't want my parents to hear how I feel about their life plan for me.
You know, he's hiding in a car, and I think he was just nervous about them knowing.
I think that has been making him, like, super insecure about his talent.
Like, they really want me to focus on school, so if this fails, then I'm going back there, and I think that's what's just, like, getting caught up in my head and stuff.
I had an educator for a mother.
She did not like the fact that her daughter was, like, "I'm not gonna go to college.
I'm gonna move and live on a mattress.
" You have to put all that aside, and so I thought it was important just to get all that out.
Hallelujah guess who I brought as a surprise.
Hallelu We were trying to surprise you with that.
Oh.
He said he grew up listening to a lot of soulful music.
That's 'cause of you.
Well, I have a little experience.
Yeah.
You love singin'? Oh, yeah.
Back in the days when I was younger, I really loved music a lot, and my dad gave me an ultimatum.
If I choose the band, I'm not gonna get any support.
Hallelujah The week is songs that inspire you, so I'm singing "hallelujah" 'cause that's one of my dad's favorite songs.
I was nervous because he's, like, a huge critic Oh, man.
Uh-oh.
Look at you! Ohh.
Isn't it so beautiful? Oh, wow.
But he seemed really happy and really proud of me.
I don't even know if you know about his first audition, but he was hiding in a car in a garage.
He's very shy.
I don't know.
You're a musician at heart.
You're a singer at heart.
Don't you love that he's kind of following it? Uh, you I know that you can do it, and we you know, all the family's supporting you.
Oh, wow.
I really believe in him.
I really believe in him.
I think I hope he makes it.
That's so sweet.
Jason hearing his dad telling him, like, "man, I'm proud of you.
I think you're doing a great job," just gives him a little bit more confidence.
Hopefully, he brings it to the stage.
Performing Leonard Cohen's "hallelujah," this is Kelly clarkson and her duet partner Jason farol.
well, I've heard there was a secret chord that David played, and it pleased the lord but you don't really care for music do ya? it goes like this, the fourth, the fifth the minor fall, the major lift the baffled king composes "hallelujah" hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah your faith was strong but you needed proof you saw her bathing on the roof her beauty in the moonlight overthrew ya she tied you to a kitchen chair she broke your throne and she cut your hair and from your lips she drew your "hallelujah" hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah maybe there's some God above but all I ever learned from love was how to shoot at someone who outdrew ya it's not a cry you can hear at night it's not somebody who has seen the light it's a cold and it's a broken "hallelujah" hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah Jason! Jason! Jason! Jason! Jason! Once again, you invited your family, didn't you? Mm-hmm.
Uh-huh.
It's a great crowd.
Well, listen, Jason, that is obviously one of those songs that is tough to tackle.
How'd you feel? Uh, I felt good.
Super emotional song.
Yeah.
But, yeah, I really connect with that song well, so I'm glad I could sing that.
Well, listen, um, obviously, last week, the judges wanted more of a connection between you and Kelly.
Did did you think you connected? Yeah, I feel I connected.
Uh, I thought we both really liked the song and we both connected really well with the song.
So I thought we did good.
I definitely felt some moments there.
Well, let's see what the superstars have to say about that.
Robin? Yeah, man, uh, you know, I-I-I thought it was lovely.
You know, my my dad wanted me to be a dentist, so, uh, so I totally understand, uh, what it's like for, uh, you know, when you have to go against your family sometimes, but you you you belong up there, man.
You know, you did a great job.
Thank you.
John? I think that was a I think that was a great song to show off your tone.
If I were to comment on the singing a little bit it was a little pitchy sometimes, and I felt like sometimes you gotta pronounce Yeah, boo it up.
Boo it up.
Boo it up.
Sometimes you have to pronounce your words a little more clearly.
Sometimes you swallow your consonants a bit and it it it's not clear what you're saying sometimes.
So you gotta watch that a bit.
Okay? All right.
Always gives good advice, yeah.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
Jennifer? First of all, I love that you chose this song, and I'm also very mad because I literally a reminder to put this in possibly for a later show.
You're welcome.
So awesome.
Thank you for taking it.
Yeah, thanks a lot.
Um, but I love the song selection.
I love your connection to it.
I agree there was a little bit at the top that felt just a little bit shaky, but then once you got into it, you sounded great, and it perfectly suited your voice, and I could see the growth in the connection with you, and I-I but not only that, I saw you stand on your own when you guys were doing your own thing.
There was some some confidence in that drama, and I loved it.
Yeah.
So we've heard from the superstars.
Now let's see what scores they locked in.
Jason, you've been in the bottom two for the last two weeks, so let's see, hopefully, if you can break that theme.
Take a look at the chart.
Okay, so you're number 6 right now.
J.
, there's still some show to go.
All right.
Go ahead to the lounge.
And now with that score, it means that Olivia is safe.
All right.
When we come back, we're gonna have our final duet, and later, one amateur will be sent packing.
Don't go anywhere.
This is "Duets" on abc.
Alexis foster is in the bottom two.
Who will join her tonight in the solo showdown, singing for their lives, and who will be sent home? Welcome back, everybody.
This is "Duets.
" And before the break, we found out that Alexis is definitely in the bottom two and will be singing for her life in a matter of minutes.
And with only one performance left, Jason is in jeopardy of joining her in our solo showdown.
But last up, it's John legend and his duet partner bridget carrington's turn.
Over the past two weeks, bridget's managed to climb up the charts steadily, and now let's see how she plans to make it to the top.
Congratulations.
Last night was great.
It was.
I was so proud.
Moving in the right direction.
Moving in the right direction.
Week one, I was number six.
Last week, I moved up the ladder to number three.
When the river was deep First of all, you look like a bag of skittles, and I love skittles.
And we're going for number one, baby.
Did you grow up listening to a lot of Gladys knight? With your dad? A lot of motown, yeah.
Her dad loved motown music, and one of his favorite artists is Gladys knight.
I bet you wonder how I knew We decided to pick a song that, uh, she covered brilliantly, which was "heard it through the grapevine.
" Don't you know that I heard it through the grapevine? You're gonna kill it.
It's just gonna be energy and soul and pain.
The last week was aretha Franklin, this week, Gladys knight.
Definitely being challenged.
When I heard about found out yesterday don't you don't you know That I heard it through the grapevine? She's my dad's favorite artist, and I'm dedicating this performance to him.
Hi, dad.
It sounds really good.
Now all you gotta to do is listen to Gladys.
Get me some growlin' going on.
You got it.
I don't give a lot of notes.
It's a lot more pressure, but you have to go out there and deliver a great performance.
Very well done.
Thank you.
Singing the motown hit made popular by Marvin gaye and Gladys knight, here is "heard it through the grapevine" by John legend and his second duet partner bridget carrington.

Get it, bridge! Yeah, bridge! I still want to dance to that.
Bridget carrington, thank you for that performance.
Thank you.
How'd you feel up there? Obviously I felt pretty good.
Yeah, you did.
You snap to that all night.
Yeah.
Groovy.
Yeah.
Do you feel like you are kind of at ease now completely on stage? Um, I'm getting there.
I'm getting there.
Okay.
John makes it easy.
Like out of 100, what percentage, you figure? I'm gonna say about 85.
85.
All right, we still got 15, and she's gonna be shining even brighter.
Okay, let's hear from our superstars.
Robin, once again, last week, you had, uh, quite the critique.
You said, "you look like a bag of skittles.
" I'm just starting to think you're you're hungry.
You're not you're not you're not "And I love skittles," he said as well.
He said he loved skittles.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You gotta put in the part that I love skittles.
Yeah.
You can't just say that she looked like skittles and leave out the love.
'Cause that sounds like it could be a diss, right, if you just look like a bag of skittles? Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, you just left out all the love in the house.
So you love her skittle-like look.
Okay, so now we're dying to hear what you have to say about this week's performance.
I don't I don't have, uh, have much to say.
You know, Marvin gaye is my favorite of all-time, and, uh, you know, what I love about this show is that somebody does a Marvin gaye song or two every week.
Marvin.
So, uh, I could listen to Marvin my whole life.
So, uh, I thought you did a great job, bridget.
Thank you.
Congratulations.
All right.
Jennifer.
First of all, girl, you had so much attitude.
You had the attitude of this song.
I love when you got into it with the you were giving it to him.
You had heard it through the grapevine, and also to not only the dancing but even the growls and stuff, that you had the gravel in your voice.
It was super great.
If I had only one note, I would say at the very beginning, on the verse, uh, the actual verse itself the low part of it felt a little bit muddy to me.
I couldn't hear you as articulately, but once you got up and into it, it sounded great.
Thank you.
Yeah.
- All right.
- Now me.
Kelly.
That was almost the same thing I was thinking.
When you first came out, just because he set it up so I mean, hello, he set it up so well and you came out and it was just a little low in your low end, I think, but pfft.
When you get out there, you're so good.
You're so comfortable.
You're so fun to watch.
I love you.
I think you shine a lot brighter than some people here.
I just think you're just having so much fun onstage and it shows Thank you.
Kelly.
And you sounded great.
That was awesome.
Thank you.
Mm-hmm.
Now it's time for our final chart of the night, where our superstars' last vote will determine who is going face off, amateur against amateur, in our solo showdown.
Bridget, let's find out your position on the chart.
Let's do it.
Number 4.
You are safe.
Congratulations.
I'm safe.
Thank you.
Go head down to the lounge.
Now you know what that means.
Jason farol and Alexis foster sing for their lives in our first-ever solo showdown, with one of them going home.
You will not want to miss this.
You're watching "Duets" on abc.
Welcome back to "Duets.
" It's Quddus here, and before the break, our superstars revealed the bottom two amateurs on our "Duets" chart, so right now, it all comes down to this those bottom two amateurs are about to sing in our first-ever solo showdown.
Each one will sing their heart out a cappella, no band, no backup with everything on the line.
It's just them and a microphone, singing for their lives, here are Jason farol and Alexis foster.
Me and Mrs.
Jones we got a thing going on we both know it's wrong but it's much too strong to let it cool down now we meet every day at the same cafe 6:30 and I know she'll be there holding hands making all kinds of plans while the jukebox plays our favorite song me and Mrs.
Mrs.
Jones Mrs.
Jones we got a thing going on Yeah, Jason! Whoo! Wow! Yeah, Jason! And now singing for her life Alexis foster.
Looking out on the morning rain I used to feel so uninspired and when I knew I had to face another day lord, it made me feel so tired before the day I met you life was so unkind you give me my peace of mind 'cause you make me feel you make me feel you make me feel like a natural woman you make me feel you make me feel you make me feel like a natural woman mm, mm, mm All right.
All right, thank you, guys, both.
So for the last time tonight, let's hear what the superstars thought of those performances.
Kelly.
I mean, I love you, but he's my boy.
So I mean, I thought you were great, but I do think both of you were a little pitchy, but I think you're nervous, obviously.
And, um, I don't think he deserves to be in the bottom two in the first place, so Yeah! The crowd agrees with you.
Robin.
Alexis, I-I-I think you're, uh, amazing and and lovely and beautiful and talented, and Jason, I think you're equally as lovely.
All I would say is, whatever happens from these results, both of you have to decide right now that you're a singer for the rest of your life, and never give up on your career, never give up on your dreams.
If I I'm sure I look at this I look at this panel of, uh, of stars, and I don't think any of us made it when we were 16 or 19 years old, you know No.
And we all had to take a lot of the troubles and the pitfalls that this business will sh will show you, so all I want to say is, no matter what happens, you go home, you get you get with a producer, and you start to make your own records and you start to work your butt off, and you never give up on your dreams, because that's the only thing that matters in this business, is you never give up.
Great advice.
John.
First of all, I second what Robin said.
This is all about this business it's a lot about talent, but it's all about tenacity and drive and desire and never giving up.
And so you guys prove by being here that you have something in you, you have something special, you brought a lot of love to the music.
I could just tell by the way you all rehearsed, just seeing all the clips, seeing how you auditioned, that you love doing this, so congratulations for just being here, and like Robin said, keep going.
Keep going.
Jennifer.
I will third that notion and say that this ind this industry is a war of attrition, and that means those who stick it out the longest and have the most tenacity are one of the some of the ones that actually rise to the top.
And I would also say where were these performances earlier on? 'Cause I thought they were both fantastic, and your voices were so showcased and so raw and so exposed and I thought they were great.
Yeah, you sounded great.
Just because you don't make it on this show does not mean that you are not a great singer.
No.
It means that it just wasn't the right connecting duet partner.
This is all about Duets.
So when you're getting up there doing a solo, that's a hell of a lot easier than getting up there and having to work on it with another person and have to go with their key or have to there's a whole lot of other things that go into play.
So, like, I just don't want y'all to go home brokenhearted.
This is called "Duets.
" This is, like, this is the point of the show.
So you did great alone, obviously, so yeah.
- Great point, Kelly.
Appreciate that.
- Yeah.
Right now, all four superstars will enter a final secret score for each of our amateurs, and when we come back, one of our amateurs will be going home.
You won't want to miss this.
You're watching "Duets" on abc.
Hello and welcome back to the "Duets" stage, where two of our amateurs, Jason farol and Alexis foster, await the judges' final decision on who will be leaving us tonight.
Before the break, they went head-to-head in our solo showdown, leaving our superstars with a huge decision.
One of you has sung your last note on the "Duets" stage.
Our superstars have locked their scores, and the amateur who will be leaving us tonight is Alexis foster.
Oh! Aw! I'm sorry.
So, congratulations, Jason.
You're safe.
Go ahead in the superstar lounge.
So, obviously, Robin What a surprise.
Who would've expected? Robin, what's going through your head, man.
Why do you think she ended up like this? I mean, honestly, I think she has an amazing voice, and maybe, uh, we didn't nail it.
That's what that's what art is all about.
You can't please everybody.
You try and give your heart and soul and you hope that it connects, but it doesn't always connect, you know, so I guess between Jennifer and and Kelly and John we didn't connect, so we just, you know, we just try another day.
Work on work on it tomorrow.
Alexis.
For her, I'm going to, uh, I'm gonna take care of her no matter what.
You know what I mean? So she'll she'll be all right.
.
Must be nice to hear that.
Seems like Robin's really invested.
What's going through your head right now? Is there anything you want to say to Robin? You sit in the middle, baby.
Don't put baby in a corner.
You know what I'm talking about? This has been so much fun.
And I never thought that I would ever do any type of TV show like this in my very fist audition.
And I just, you know, did it on a whim, and I'm just glad that I got this opportunity, so thank you.
Now, Alexis, thank you so much for giving us all of your gifts, and as you can see, nobody's safe.
Any amateur can go home at any night.
Thank you, America, for watching "Duets.
" After another wild week, we are down to seven amateurs and the competition is rolling on.
I also wanna give a big thank thank you to John beasley, the "Duets" band.
Be sure to tune in next week.
We got a very special night and time, Wednesday at 9:30/8:30 central, as our amateurs take on the stage singing party songs.
We're gonna get it cracking.
We'll see you then.
Good night, everybody.
We are not fixin' to go into a gunfight with a knife, brother.
Bring it.
What?! Four superstars all on their own, trying to train It's not that! If you're not ready to be a star, well, why did you send me a YouTube tape? Perform That's the only line that I don't like what you're doing.
And win with complete unknowns.
" Ain't got no trouble in my life I know I'll always get by I heat up I heat up I cool down I cool down when something gets in my way, I go 'round it oh, don't let life get me down I'm gonna take it the way that I found it oh, oh I got the music in me, I got the music in me I got the music in me whoa I got the music in me I got the music in me I got the music in me whoa, whoa Whoo! That is the way to kick-start a show! Ooh! They've definitely got the music in 'em.

In the house.

Thank you.
Singing the motown hit made popular by Marvin gaye and Gladys knight, here is "heard it through the grapevine" by John legend and his second duet partner bridget carrington.
whoo, I bet you wonderin' how I knew about your plans to make me blue with some other guy you knew before between the two of us guys, you know I love you more you took me by surprise I must say when I found out yesterday don't you know that I heard it through the grapevine? ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh yeah Ladies and gentlemen Miss bridget carrington! Yay, bridget! Yeah! Oh, wow.
