- [woman humming haunting song]
- [baby gurgling]
[baby giggles]
[Solari keeps humming]
- [rumbling crash]
- [Solari gasps]
[screaming] No!
[eerie sounds]
[loud, slow ticking]
[shattering sound]
[mouthing] Mommy.
[eerie music playing]
[gasps]
- [Lesean] You okay, Captain?
- Yeah, it's just a
nightmare.
We've arrived at Brigade HQ.
What's left of it.
[watch ticking]
[quiet orchestral theme music playing]
[music fades out]
[Arhun] Should we proceed?
Negative. Get out
and search for survivors.
[Medic] This was your base?
Yes, this
was the Romanian Mixed Mobile Brigade HQ.
I I can't believe
[yelling] Get down!
Take cover!
These feddies can't aim worth shit!
We'll draw their fire!
See if you can flank them!
With me, Lieutenant!
[tense music playing]
Cease fire! Hold your fire!
- [desperately] Get away!
- We're Zeon!
Zeon?
We're Zeon. We're on the same side.
[breathing heavily]
- What's the situation?
- She's Zeon, Cap.
Are you okay? I'm a doctor.
I'm Captain Iria Solari,
7th Battalion, 1st Company.
What's going on here?
It attacked us.
Don't move. I'll patch you up.
- What happened here, soldier?
- Captain, I need to
[weakly] EFF have a mobile suit.
A white demon.
We know. We've seen it.
Federation's new mobile suit.
This could turn the tide of the war.
She needs serious attention right away.
We need to get her to a medical facility.
Any medical room here
is probably a pile of rubble.
Then how about a hospital?
Anything we can find
Feds are gonna be swarming this position
in no time.
We need to get moving. Now.
Yes, but
[Lesean] Don't mean to interrupt, Captain.
- Heaton here might have something.
- Go ahead.
There's a recycling facility.
Not too far from here.
We've brought scrap Magellas there before.
It would be a low-priority target,
so they might still be there.
Maybe they can help?
That's not a bad idea.
Arhun, have anyone available
search for survivors.
We move out in 20.
Yes, ma'am.
[injured soldier groaning]
[melancholy music playing]
Looks like no one's home.
You think they had to abandon it?
Maybe.
But keep your eyes open.
[soldier] Halt!
Take your hands off the wheel!
[irritated sound]
- Hands where we can see 'em!
- Stop the engine!
[Lesean] Guess they're home after all.
- [screaming] Show us your ID!
- [Lesean] Whoa, easy. I'm getting it now.
[distant voice] All right!
All right, all right.
[medic] You're going to be okay.
Just keep the pressure on.
First MS Company?
Yes, sir. I'm Captain Iria Solari
from Red Wolf Squadron,
First MS Company, 7th Battalion.
I see. I'm Major Rolph Ronet.
Are all of these soldiers attached
to 7th Battalion?
No, sir.
They are survivors of Mobile Brigade HQ
and the raid on Cluj-Napoca.
Apologies, Captain.
I have too many mouths
to feed here as it is.
You may leave the wounded.
The rest will have to move on.
Move on to where, sir?
Captain,
we've already taken on more bodies
than this post can handle.
This is a recycling center,
not a troop barracks,
a hospital, or a morgue.
Unless otherwise instructed by Command,
your unit and those who can move
will have to find refuge elsewhere.
Do I make myself clear?
Yes, sir.
[Lesean] What an asshole.
Mind yourself, Lieutenant.
Yes, Captain.
Nothing we can do.
Major's in command of this base.
What in the name of Side 3
is Red Wolf Squadron doing here?
[excitedly] Captain Zydos!
We're not so formal in these parts, Iria.
[chuckles]
It's good to see you, Alfee.
It's his.
Sorry to hear about Daltum.
How's your little boy holding up?
He's good, Alfee.
I think about him
every moment of the day, but he's good.
Safe with family until I get home.
Good to hear. Good to hear.
Captain's got a kid back home?
Yeah. Cute little guy.
Mr. Lesean!
Oh, Gearhead! What's up?
Where's the rest of the pack?
Chubs and Kale didn't make it.
Damn.
It was a Federation mobile suit.
It's fast, Alfee.
Moved unlike anything I've ever seen.
The Gundam.
I've been hearing stories about it.
Gundam.
Damn things devastated our forces.
The Red Wolves? I can't believe it.
Federation bastard.
I'm sorry, Iria.
Chubs and Kale, I'm gonna miss 'em.
Like I miss your husband.
Thank you. Me too.
- [man] Find cover! Fed air patrol!
- Over here!
[man 2] Find some cover!
- [airplane engines roaring]
- [man 3] Get to cover!
EFF air patrols are getting more frequent.
It's only a matter of time
until they find us out.
Anyway
It's good to see you, Iria.
You too, Lesean.
Come on. Let's find you something to eat.
And maybe find us all a stiff drink.
We'd love to, Alfee,
but our orders are to move out.
Move out? That's nonsense!
The major informed us
you can't take anyone other than wounded.
That's bullshit!
We're all Zeon, ain't we?
Fighting the same war.
As if we'd kick y'all out.
I'll have a talk with the Major. Come on.
I've been trying to understand
how its beam rifle can even work.
I mean, I know how it works,
but the power source must
[Lesean clears throat]
Ponder how easily it killed us later.
I'm trying to eat here.
- Sorry, Lieutenant.
- [Alfee] Be careful, Lieutenant.
Mr. Lesean here,
he takes dinner very seriously.
[sighs]
How'd it go?
Oh, there was some yelling.
- You or him?
- Both.
Now, listen.
Major's not all bad. He's just trying
to look out for his command.
[sarcastic] Noble of him.
Noble or not, he agreed to take y'all in.
Thank you, Alfee.
He's just trying
to survive like the rest of us.
I don't even know what the hell
we're doing down here anymore.
Us?
We're just soldiers, doing our duty.
Command? They will tell us
what we gotta do.
But to the Feds, we're invaders.
Don't forget. The Principality of Zeon.
We came to take Earth away from them.
They're gonna do
whatever they can to stop us.
Gearhead sounds like an Earth sympathizer.
[Alfee] Not on your life.
It's been ages since I joined the military
and seen what the Feds are capable of.
They're out there doing whatever the hell
they want to whoever they want.
You oppress people long enough,
they're gonna fight back.
So now we're here.
We're fighting for our independence.
- Ain't that right, Iria?
- Huh?
Uh
What was that, Alfee?
I said, we're fighting for independence.
- For survival.
- Yeah.
That's right.
Alfee, what exactly
are your teams doing here?
Any mobile suit, tank,
or vehicle that's trash,
we strip the usable parts,
and we recycle the rest.
Just one way to make up
for our thinning supply lines.
You must have enough parts here
to build a Zaku or two, right?
Well, if you're just talking
about the parts
Once in a while, we strike gold.
- But mostly, it's a pile of junk.
- [distant explosion sounds]
[Lesean] Guess we're out of luck.
Alfee, any of your people
hear that evac rumor?
[high-pitched ringing]
[Alfee] News to me.
- [indistinct talking]
- [Gundam sounds growing louder]
[Lesean] You all right, Cap?
- Iria?
- Cap.
[breathing hard]
[tense music playing]
[echoing rumble]
[beam saber sound]
[spooky music playing]
[sounds vanish]
Lesean, what's going on with Iria?
It's been a hard few days, Alfee.
She just lost Daltum too.
- Must be rough on her.
- Daltum?
Cap's husband.
He died in an airstrike
a few months ago. Great guy.
Hell of a musician.
- I had no idea.
- Shh. Here she comes.
You see a ghost or something?
A "ghost" just attacked the Mediaș base.
Whoa! What?
Mediaș? How do you know that?
I heard the explosions and its beam saber.
Mediaș is 20 clicks away.
Iria, you should rest up for the day.
- You haven't
- It's out there right now.
And I'm sure it's seen this place too.
Say you're right. What do we do?
Anything we can.
We're vulnerable right now.
[Alfee] I know.
Exactly why the Major wants us
to stay hidden.
Well, that's not good enough.
I don't wanna lose anyone else.
Listen, I have an idea.
Okay, what do you got?
You have everything you need
to put a Zaku back together.
Parts and mechanics.
[laughs]
You want us
to start putting this junk back together?
Exactly.
Give me two mobile suits,
and I'll give you two pilots
to defend this base.
You're the only one
who can make this happen.
Let's give this base a fighting chance.
Okay, Captain Solari.
I'll gather the gearheads at 0600.
But you're gonna have to
be the one to convince 'em.
Y'all are some damn good mechanics.
I know you're good
at taking these things apart.
Now, I wanna see how good you are
at putting 'em back together.
[woman laughs]
You're joking.
This is a scrap iron graveyard!
Well, if this is a graveyard,
we just need to dig it up
and bring it back to life.
You can do that.
[man] If you haven't noticed,
we aren't here because of our skills.
And this ain't no assembly factory.
[Solari] There's a new
Federation mobile suit out there,
attacking our forces as we speak.
It's got orders to keep fighting
until every one of us is wiped out.
It's got armor we can't scratch.
It's got beam weapons
that cut right through our Zaku,
and it's faster than any mobile suit
out there right now.
I've seen it with my own eyes.
So I want you to take this to heart.
When you face the Gundam,
you're gonna wish you had a Zaku
in front of you. I can promise you that.
We're worth way more
than just scrounging junks.
Let's prove it to Command.
As an added bonus,
it may just save our asses.
You with me?
- Yes, sir!
- We're with you!
Yeah!
[upbeat rock music playing]
[Solari] At Loum, we got the idea
to mod the calibers of the machine guns.
- Those look good. Give me those.
- Of course, Captain.
Wait. You were at Loum, Captain?
Yeah. We had to do
everything we could to survive.
- Like now, I guess.
- Yeah.
[man] Captain Solari.
The Major has requested to speak with you.
I'll be right there.
You stay here
and keep the work going, Lieutenant.
Yes, ma'am.
- [metal door creaks]
- Captain Solari to see you, sir.
Come in, Captain.
I haven't had the opportunity
to thank you for housing us, sir.
Thank you.
Well, from what I hear, you've been
busy.
[drinks]
Captain,
you've been here less than two days,
and you've had the nerve to command
the mechanics without my consent.
I wasn't trying to subvert your authority.
I just wanna protect this base.
The chain of command
is the lifeblood of an army!
I can't abide a loose cannon.
Respectfully, sir, it's only
a matter of time until the EFF come.
I believe we need a defensive force.
We defend ourselves by laying low,
not by building mobile suits.
Might as well send up some flares
while you're at it.
Sir, I've seen the Gundam in action.
It's an executioner.
It kills everything in its path.
The Zaku will at least
give us a fighting chance.
You mean a chance for vengeance.
I don't want
I don't want to risk this base!
It isn't vengeance.
My only wish is to make it back alive
to see my little boy again.
I will do everything that I can
so he doesn't lose his mother
like he lost his father.
Then you should have put this up with me,
not Captain Zydos.
You are to cease this activity
and leave my base immediately.
Dismissed.
You have no idea what's coming, sir.
If the Gundam finds us here
[slams table] [shouts] Then don't let it!
My duty is to protect this base.
I can't take on any unnecessary risk.
If you're not gonna do it,
I'll shut this down myself!
[door creaks]
[Alfee] I wouldn't have believed it
if I hadn't seen this with my own eyes.
You guys did spectacular work here.
Not only did we manage
to pull off the impossible,
we probably even set a new record
on how quickly you can assemble a Zaku.
I always told the Major,
look how many parts we have
that might still be working.
Now we proved it.
Leaving the unfinished cannon aside,
you just turned junk
into two fighting Zakus.
[major] Stop!
Stop the operation!
But
Dismantle these ridiculous pieces of scrap
or camouflage them immediately!
Major, they're complete and ready to go.
- It's okay, Alfee.
- It's not okay.
Be glad she's only being asked to leave.
[major] Captain Zydos,
when you and your men decided
to ignore my orders
for her ridiculous stunt,
- [explosion]
- [surprised yelling]
[airplane whooshing]
[soldier] Incoming!
[screams]
[approaching tanks firing]
[chaotic noises]
- Alfee, are they battle ready?
- Damn straight they are!
Permission to board
our ridiculous stunt, sir?
Just go!
- Captain!
- Fire them up!
Yes, ma'am!
[explosion]
[dramatic music playing]
[systems beeping]
[powering-up sound]
Zaku Two, we're moving!
[clanking footsteps]
[dramatic music continues]
Yes!
[soldiers yelling]
[straining sound]
Woo! All right!
- [music quiets]
- [high-pitched whine]
Again? No.
[bullets ricocheting off metal]
[tense music playing]
[heavy crashing]
Bravo, the Gundam. It's here.
[Lesean] And it brought a friend.
[tense music continues]
[silence]
[eerie music playing]
[music ends]
