Haunted (2018) s01e03 Episode Script

Demon in the Dark

1 A NETFLIX ORIGINAL SERIES My name is Eryn McGarry.
Ever since I was a little kid, I've been haunted by something evil.
THE FOLLOWING IS A TRUE STORY.
Growing up, I remember living in a small suburb right outside of Denver.
My parents divorced when I was two.
And my mom was actually diagnosed with systemic lupus when I was little.
Lupus, especially from, like, a kid's perspective, made my mom very tired all the time.
I mean, a bomb could fall and all you want to do is go to bed and sleep through it.
[Eryn.]
When I was eight or nine years old, her lupus got really bad and she was unable to work anymore.
So, we ended up not being able to keep the house.
We had to move up the street.
I move in with my grandma, and we ended up having to take the room in the basement.
LAKEWOOD, COLORADO The basement had actually been my uncle's when he was growing up.
My mom's brother was a drug addict/alcoholic.
CHRIS ERYN'S GODMOTHER He got very interested in the occult and started doing a lot of work in the basement, secretly.
He was studying how to attract a poltergeist.
[speaking Latin.]
- [whispering voices.]
- [speaking Latin.]
[heavy breathing.]
[speaking Latin.]
[overlapping voices speaking Latin.]
Um, it made me feel like it was something that could be dangerous, something, um, evil.
So, the day of the move, I remember walking into the basement.
LAKEWOOD, COLORADO My mom and I needed to get rid of my uncle's stuff.
[door opens.]
[floorboards creaking.]
[door creaking.]
[door creaking.]
It was my uncle Robert.
He was high, or drunk, or both.
And he was there to find drugs.
And so he took me into the laundry room and there's a crawl space.
[gasping.]
And he said that that's where the boogeyman lives.
[gasping.]
[growling sounds.]
After this night, I couldn't even sleep.
Weird things started happening.
[heavy rainfall.]
[thunder crashing.]
[sighing sounds.]
[distant thumping.]
[roaring.]
[static buzzing.]
There's no, like, remote or anything that I could have stepped on.
And then [sighs.]
You remember all of the stuffed animals that I had everywhere.
[kisses.]
[rustling.]
[rustling continues.]
I went up to my mom and my grandma, I'm like, "Can you not move my stuffed animals around? Just leave them where they are.
" And both my mom and my grandma were confused, like, "Why would we move your stuffed animals around?" Do you remember when I came up and talked to you about it? Yes, I do.
I remember.
It felt like you didn't really believe me at that point.
And I remember I mean, it had only been a day or two later, and I had had a couple of my neighborhood friends over.
[girl.]
Down by the banks In the hanky pankies Where the bullfrogs jump To bank to banky Say eeps, ops, soda pops Let's grab a latte and a rocker pop Three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, zero.
[giggling.]
One.
[static crackling.]
And after that, those two never They never came over.
[static crackling.]
They started to call me Scary McGarry which was super hard, and at at that point, I didn't really have, like, good friends that I could talk to.
I hadn't met you guys yet.
But you know, I would tell my mom every time something happened and I always kind of felt like she dismissed it.
I was trying to be age appropriate with you and not have you be more afraid.
Right.
I think at that point I just felt very insecure and very alone.
And it was about that time that things got a lot worse.
[soft snoring.]
[snarling.]
[snapping and snarling.]
[gasps.]
[breathing heavily.]
[scrabbling sounds.]
[roaring.]
- [rapid heartbeat.]
- Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one, zero.
[sighs.]
And I just oh, I can't even describe that.
Like, to this day, I have never been that scared.
So, I was like, "Mom, this is what happened to me last night.
" And she kind of just was, like, "You know, it was probably just a nightmare.
" Like, "It's nothin' to worry about.
" Kind of brushed it off.
I remember talking to you and asking you if you knew the difference between a dream and no dream.
I was like, "This was real.
Like, I know this was real.
" Because I've had plenty of nightmares my whole life.
And this was completely different.
I It made me feel really dejected.
And as I got older, all this stuff is happening, and not even my own mother believes me.
I was angry all the time, I was sad, I was having emotional outbursts.
[gasps.]
[static buzzing.]
[water dripping.]
[door opens.]
[door creaking.]
[floorboards creaking.]
[bubbling.]
[loud crash.]
[rattling and thumping.]
[wind whistling.]
[thumping at door continues.]
[heavy thumping.]
[heavy thumping continues.]
[silence.]
[growling.]
[door creaking.]
[gasps.]
[loud crash.]
[loud crash.]
Mom? [thumping.]
Mom? [thumping continues.]
Mom? [water dripping.]
[floorboards creaking.]
[gasping.]
[loud snarling.]
[door rattles.]
[knocking.]

[rattling and thumping.]
[thumping continues.]
- [crashing.]
- [gasps.]
[Kelly.]
When I was down the hallway, I actually saw this dark entity standing there.
And that's when I realized, "She's been telling me the truth.
" I just remember looking at her, and she kind of looked back and was really quiet.
And she just said, "I believe you.
" It feel good.
Of course, when it's qualified.
- Finally.
- Yeah.
And then I would think about what my brother was doing in that same room that we were sleeping in.
[Eryn.]
He was uneducated and messing around with some really dark stuff.
And that's so dangerous.
I believe that whatever he did opened some sort of portal in that house.
Everything in that house was was his fault.
[Kelly.]
So, I called Chris.
Chris said that she would help with getting a medium friend of hers.
[Eryn.]
We didn't tell the medium anything about the situation.
This woman walked in blind, knew nothing.
And the second she walked into the house, she just went down the stairs into the basement.
She did some sort of pagan cleansing ritual.
Sage, and prayers, and those kind of things.
It was just It was an awful feeling.
It was just ugh, really bad.
Mm-hm.
- You are not welcome here.
- [snarling.]
You are not welcome here! You are not welcome here.
You are not [whispers.]
welcome here.
She told my mom and my godmother that everything was gone, everything was A-okay, and my mom told me that.
Like, you know, "It's gone.
" And I felt so relieved that whatever that was, it was behind me now.
I can move forward.
So for about eight years everything was okay.
My relationship with my mom was much better because I wasn't harboring as much anger and just tension all the time.
I wasn't living in constant fear.
DENVER.
COLORADO PRESENT DAY And then, not long ago, my mom's health started to get a lot worse.
Money was pretty tight.
So, my mom and I had to move back in together in a new house.
It's been hard.
It's just that feeling of Everyone always tells you if you move back home, you're a failure.
Like, I I fucked up my life.
[rainfall.]
- [creaking.]
- [soft tapping.]
[low growling.]
[growling.]
You're not wanted here.
[roars.]
[wails.]
You're not wanted here.
[roars.]
[rapid heartbeat.]
You're not wanted here! It's it's started happening again.
This entity wasn't attached to the house.
It attached itself to me.
Um I'm worried and I'm kind of shocked.
‘Cause I really had no clue.
Honey, I had no clue.
How do you fight something like that? How do you protect people from something like that? It's very concerning.
You don't think, like, a medium or someone like that again would help this time? No, not at all.
It's only a Band-Aid.
The entity will never go away.
Things are getting worse, more violent.
[loud static crackle.]
