Honest Renovations (2023) s01e03 Episode Script
Unboxing My House
-I'm Jessica. -I'm Lizzy.
And this is
Yay.
[upbeat music]
Basically.
[Lizzy]
is parenting can be tough at
every stage of the game.
It's a lot of yelling and we've
never been
[Jessica]
that you've got this, you're,
like, yes, I got this today.
Boom, you don't.
-[cries] -Oh
[Lizzy]
-[man] We started demolition--
-Before Emma came,
-and then Emma came. -[both]
Ohh.
I feel defeated as a working
single mom.
I don't know who said babies
don't need a lot of space,
Your family grows, your family
changes
-That's right.
Inevitably, you're gonna hit a
breaking point.
Everyday I feel like I'm
failing.
[man 2]
It's an organizational thing
too, right?
Where things are, where we put
things.
-Definitely help with that.
-Right.
Updating your home makes a
massive difference
These are all the healthy snacks
you can put at the bottom.
What a cool little hack.
This is a mom hack, you don't
wanna go
in the nursery every time you
change the baby.
With changing these homes,
Welcome home.
Oh, my God!
Thank you for seeing us.
Woo! Are you kidding me?!
I'm gonna cry.
[woman]
[woman 2]
You need to be celebrated.
-[Jandilyn] Okay, ready, set.
-One, two, three, go. Whee!
Okay, ready?
Heads up. Heads up.
One, whoa.
Hi, I'm Jandilyn Wong and this
is my husband.
Hi, I'm Wilson Wong.
[Jandilyn]
Cheers, okay.
We love 'em, but they are such a
handful.
[Waverly cries]
-Come on, what's going on, baby?
-Shh.
Oh, you know what? She didn't
get her nap.
Before kids, we took a lot of
pride in our home.
It feels like a lifetime ago.
We had been trying for several
years,
so it was a surprise when we
finally got
a positive pregnancy test and
you know we were prepared,
but we're never really prepared.
[Waverly cries]
We read so many books to learn
how to take care of babies,
And then our whole life pretty
much turned upside down.
[Wilson]
and then it got out of control.
Right when you walk in our front
door, it is pure chaos.
[Jandilyn]
I feel like it is going to help
us almost fix
the relationship amongst us,
you know, because we do get
stressed.
I'm sort of apprehensive to have
people at our home.
Walker, did you hear that? There
was a knock.
I am very embarrassed, you know,
someone's gonna step
I can imagine how hard that
would be.
Yeah.
I wouldn't even let y'all in my
front door.
No, it was actually very brave
of them.
-Yeah, it's so brave. -Yeah.
So we just thought it was super
important to make sure
that they just knew that they
were not in this alone.
-Hi. -Hi!
Welcome, oh, my gosh, nice to
have you guys!
We didn't know whether to knock
or not or walk in.
-Say hi. -Hi.
Hi, Lizzy, I'm Jandilyn.
Nice to meet you, Jandilyn.
-Hi, I'm Jessica. -Hi, nice to
meet you.
Okay, introduce us to everyone.
Okay, well, this is our eldest
son, Walker.
-This is our daughter, Waverly.
-Hi!
Oh, my goodness, you're very
cute.
-How about a high five?
-[Jandilyn] High five?
[Wilson] Oh, it's a very dirty
high five.
[Jandilyn] She was eating
chicken, I'm sorry.
[Wilson] She just had lunch, so.
Hello, how are you?
-Hi, good, good. I'm Wilson.
-Nice to meet you, Wilson.
-Hi, I'm Jessica. -Hi, Jessica,
nice to meet you.
Nice to meet you too.
Wow, okay, so this is the house.
Right, right.
[upbeat music]
[Lizzy]
I felt like a bobblehead.
This is the family room?
Yes, this the den and that's the
living dining area.
Well, you have, like, a really
big space.
-[Jandilyn] We do. -[Lizzy] You
do.
Smaller bedrooms, but--
[Lizzy]
Yeah, and I love a vaulted
ceiling.
Same, same.
Imagine what it must feel like
being
in that space constantly and
trying to focus on your kids
or dinner or work or whatever
the thing--
[exhales]
Whoosah. Whoosah.
-It's a lot of stuff. -It's a
lot.
So I think this is the best time
to maybe hand off the kids to
the grandma.
Say bye-bye.
-Bye-bye. -Bye-bye.
-Oh, my gosh. -I love that age.
-It's such a good age. -Mhm.
Does it make you wanna have
another one?
-No. Definitely not. -Damn.
Come on, lets get pregnant
together again.
What are we even talking about?
Our last pregnancy was
geriatric, sister.
Marinate on that one.
I want more defined spaces in
our home
so that we can clearly say that
this space is
Was it having your first that
you just felt like you
just started accumulating a lot
of things
and you needed places to put
them? Was that it?
My wife, you know, she loves to
prepare for everything.
Yeah.
And so, shopping for all the
necessary pieces,
Planning and--
So, with the baby born, she
wanted to prepare for the baby.
I think as new parents, that's
the--
That's your challenge
constantly.
I need all this new stuff,
I need all these things for this
little baby--
You really don't.
[Lizzy]
[Jessica]
All you needed was--
A onesie, a diaper, and a
bottle, or a boob.
[Lizzy laughs]
Sometimes I'm not able to find
things that we need,
so we can easily go online.
So you might have doubles or
triples of the same thing.
Exactly, so I'm gonna have
over--
Oh, snap. Oh, you can't find
stuff in the house?
Sometimes, yes.
-Ahh. -Ahh.
[Lizzy] Okay, okay, I see.
So it's an organizational thing
too, right?
It's not having a great system
on knowing where things are,
where we put things.
We can definitely help with
that.
Right, I really love the
emphasis on organization
because I know for her, it's
like,
"Oh, we need storage solutions."
Well, I don't want cabinets
everywhere.
Yeah.
I really want the organizational
aspect of it.
But it does actually take
cabinets,
but it's looking, it can be
chic.
Yeah.
You need storage literally
everywhere.
Everywhere. Every room needs
storage.
-Don't fret. -Don't fret.
Storage needs to be everywhere.
But I think there's a beautiful
way to do it,
because when you really think
about storage,
I think the fear sometimes,
storage equals bulky.
Right, no, can't be bulky.
And storage does not have to be
bulky.
Mmm-mm.
And then what is this here?
This is creative station it
feels like.
[Wilson]
of sneaker customizing or
painting, things like that.
It's my creative outlet.
-Ohh, okay. Okay. -That's really
cool.
-[Wilson]-[Jandilyn]
Uh-huh. Let me see.
-What! How cute is this? -This
could be a little Etsy.
[Jessica] It's so cute.
Okay, what's behind me? What's
this?
[Wilson]
[Jessica]
-This is where you mix drinks.
-Right.
This is where you kinda
entertain,
[Jessica]
[Wilson]
for our loved ones, our friends.
I used to be a college radio DJ,
I still have my turn tables
in my bedroom buried under shoe
boxes right now.
I think one of the things that
we lost as parents
is almost, like, our hobbies,
you know, our interest.
So that's one of the things I
would like to see
this space to be, to have, like,
arts and crafts and, like
-Right. -for us and the kids,
of course.
It's okay for you to want stuff
that's just for you.
Yes.
And it doesn't have to be "and
also the kids."
You can maintain and hold on to
your true, authentic self,
be amazing parents, be an
amazing human,
and give to them everything that
they need.
You can have both, okay? I wanna
hug you.
[Jessica]
just buried under this weight
and all these dreams
and desires and thoughts that
they have
all just, like, piled into this
space.
When you're cluttered in your
space, it also feels
like they're cluttered up here.
-Yeah. -And in here.
I feel like this is, like, kids
central.
I see arts and crafts here, all
of our building blocks.
-Right. -And we have another
table.
-Right. -Oh!
[objects clattering]
[Jandilyn] Oh, my God, are you
okay?
I see slides, I see arts and
crafts, building blocks.
-Right. -And we have another
table.
-Right. -Oh!
[objects clattering]
-Oh, my God, are you okay?
-Lizzy.
Lizzy.
[Jessica] Wow, Lizzy. What is
wrong with you?
My goal is not to torture you, I
promise.
Oh, my God, this was my biggest
fear,
walking in and feel like the
little kids
were gonna climb the boxes and
fall over.
You mean you accidentally almost
impaled me.
I remember that.
And I was almost concussed.
Yes, concussed, sure, that,
uh-huh.
Oh, what is this?
-Sexy photo. -Wow, wow.
[Wilson] Yeah, that was before
we got married, before kids.
This is, like, sexy cool.
-Mhm -That's what this is.
-Very cool. -[Lizzy] Sexy cool.
[Jessica] Yeah, and you guys are
still these people.
-I think that's what our job is.
-Yeah.
To make sure they know they can
still be those cool,
sexy, fun parents.
Get that sexy back and still be
an amazing mom and dad.
What do you want out of your
home?
I want it to be organized,
clutter-free,
where we can entertain again,
maybe have our love ones visit
the kids every day.
I feel like I'm failing, you
know, as a parent
and as an individual, and a
partner.
[Wilson] You know you're my ride
or die,
so we'll get through this.
Right, right.
It's really brave of you to be
vulnerable
and to allow us to come into
your space,
and so, thank you for opening
yourself up to that
because that's really, really
hard to do.
-[Wilson] Yeah. -Thank you.
We're gonna create an amazing
space
[Jessica] Yeah.
that you guys are going to
love.
This is going to be awesome, and
if it's not
-Go after her. -[Jessica laughs]
I'll give you Lizzy's address.
[everyone laughs]
All right, Wong family design
meeting.
We want them to bring back
their sophisticated, elevated
vibe.
Cool, sexy, fun vibe.
They can entertain, but then
also do the family thing.
Right.
We need to have the adult zone,
the kids zone.
[Lizzy]
[Jessica]
I want to walk into the sitting
room.
What if we make this the dining
table?
You don't like it here?
I feel like it's blocking the
fire place.
Hmm.
-It's a couch. -Oh.
-Do you like my illustrations?
-That's not a couch.
It's a couch.
There's the back of the couch.
It's a monkey bar set.
You put monkey bars in there.
I'm not really sure why it has
legs right here.
Okay.
-So this is couch. -Couch.
Dining table.
Do we like table pushed into
this corner though?
-But if it's, like, a bench--
-Doesn't that feel tight?
I think that's what you're--
You're absolutely right.
Why don't you draw a little
bench?
Of course there's gonna be a
bench.
Draw.
Bench.
You know what, 'cause I thought
you were gonna write
something else, so I'm glad that
turned out--
I think that Jess and I, I
learned a long time ago,
have our own language.
Sometimes it sounds like
fighting.
It does.
Comes out a little bit snappy.
It's more like sisters that
bicker
except we don't run away from
it.
-We lean in. -Head first.
To bickering sisters.
Oww.
-Bench. -Okay.
[Jessica]
[Lizzy]
Bar.
[Lizzy]
[Jessica]
[upbeat music]
-Hi! -Hi!
-We're back. -Yay!
We are back.
-We brought a friend. -We
brought a friend.
This is Amy from Nimble Nest.
Amy is an angel from heaven
basically.
She's an expert in really honing
in on the things
that will bring you the most
joy, the most light,
the stuff that you actually need
and then how
to, sort of, move on from the
things
that you don't necessarily need
in your lives.
It gives me nightmares to see,
like, this every day.
Did you say I give you
nightmares?
Not you.
How should we start?
[Amy]
we really just start from one
corner of the room
but the key is to hone in on our
categories.
So, keepsakes.
I don't tell people to get rid
of things
if they're not ready.
Trash, obviously, and relocate.
So what that means is, we love
it, we're keeping it,
and I found a pair of underwear,
right?
Underwear don't belong in the
living room,
they belong in the bedroom.
I promise you, the way energy
flows,
goodness will come back in.
-Everyone needs an Amy. -Yes.
-Everyone. -We all need Amy.
We all need an Amy in our lives.
She's good at making everyone
know
that they are not alone in this
process.
Exactly.
-Everybody in? -[all] Go team!
Trash bags.
Okay, so, what about the slide?
[Jandilyn] We can give it away,
or donate, right?
-[Jessica] Awesome. -[Lizzy]
Yay!
Okay, donate.
[objects clatter]
So can I just, like, have a beer
while you guys do this?
[girls laugh]
He started to see it go and I
feel like he was, like,
"Am I regretting this or am I
into this?"
And I think he really felt more
like he was regretting it.
[laughing]
But there was no turning back,
we were in too deep.
Aye!
And this one's keep.
[upbeat music]
-We're here! -[Lizzy laughs]
-Whoa. -[Jessica] This is wild.
Aye, aye, aye.
[Jessica]
We're here.
Tinku! TJ.
-It's empty. -Oh, my God.
-TJ, Tinku. He's basically
-So many names.
[Jessica]
[Lizzy]
Jess is right brain, I'm left
brain,
Tinku is definitely our spine,
right?
-Yeah. -Central nervous system.
-Yeah. -I think so.
-Yeah, I think I'm both brains.
-You think so?
-I think so. -Okay, well, you be
both.
[Lizzy] Whoa!
[Jessica] This is wild, like,
what?
The light that is coming into
this room
-Yeah, it's night and day.
-is insane.
-This is awesome. -[Jessica]
This is massive.
It's really big.
I really think we can do
some floor-to-ceiling cabinets.
Storage, people don't
understand.
No house is built with enough
storage ever
in the history of mankind.
Something about when you become
a parent,
you realize that there is more
things that you have
that you could ever imagine in
your tight space now
That you don't need to see.
that you never thought you
would see.
If we do floor-to-ceiling, I
think it won't--
'Cause remember he said he
didn't want cabinets everywhere.
Wilson?
Yeah, Wilson, so I think if we
do floor to ceiling,
there's a way to do it where we
can kinda disguise it.
Wilson did throw out a little
bit
of a design challenge for us.
He told us straight up that he
did not like bulky cabinets.
Well you know what, Wilson,
challenge accepted.
We're going to design a space
with a lot of cabinets and a lot
of storage,
and it's gonna beautiful and
it's gonna help them so much
-with their storage issues.
-Yeah.
All right, so, what colors do we
have to work with?
[Jessica]
[Lizzy] Concentrate,
concentrate.
What do you mean concentrate?
Concentrate on what?
Concentrate on getting it inside
the paint can.
Well, I don't see you helping
me.
-Well, this is great. -I see you
just standing here.
I am really overseeing.
Judging.
Look, oh, that awesome, look at
you.
[Jessica] What?
[Lizzy] Oh, you just made a
messy with it.
I like this.
Remember my first honest teal
color?
It kinda remind me of that.
[Lizzy] So you picked out these
colors?
They said they liked teal.
We think it's important to use
zero VOC paint.
Which means it doesn't contain
any volatile,
organic compounds, and has an
ultra-low odor
which is safer for your family.
Look at her just go.
I think that's all she wants to
do.
This is all she cares about.
This feels more elevated.
I like this one.
This one does feel richer
though.
I have no opinion.
Tinku, why do you hate design
decisions so much?
I think you just don't like to
commit
which is why it took you so long
to get engaged.
Why is she bringing up your old
shit, huh?
-Why she bringing up old stuff?
-What are you talking about?
All right, so you just basically
painted the one I painted
over there closer to yours?
Yeah, so that we can really look
at the difference.
That's called control.
Do you get the impression
she just likes messing things
up?
Just paint the whole wall, Jess.
-[Jessica] Wait. -[Lizzy] So we
can get
the whole vibe.
Look at her, don't even care
about the floors, nothing.
[Jessica] This is the only way.
I think she just wanted to paint
today.
-All right. -[Tinku] Little bit.
All right, I have a clear
favorite.
So do I, but if I say it,
she's gonna go with the
opposite.
Okay, if that's number one and
that's number two,
I think we all say it at the
same time.
Three, two, one.
-[all] One. -[Tinku] Wow.
Decisions made.
I bet you if I said one, she'd
be, like, "Well"
-Told you I was right. -Told
you.
[upbeat music]
[Lizzy]
but I still think Mom and Dad
need something a little bit
extra.
and they lost touch with who
they were.
we knew instantly that one of
our goals had to be
to reconnect this couple.
so we could not only bring the
sexy back for them,
but so they could see each other
again,
and this time, as a family.
-Hello. -[all] Hi!
Family.
-Hi! -How are you?
Oh, my God, this is so exciting.
[photographer] One more smile.
Cheese. Big smiles.
Huddle in, heads together.
Yeah, let's bring that sexy
back.
[photographer] So beautiful.
Cute.
[Wilson]
[Lizzy] Yes, queen, yes, queen.
Yes, queen. That's my queen.
That's right. That's his queen
over here.
[Wilson] You're an animal.
You're a cat.
Do it. There you go.
[Lizzy] Okay. That's so good.
Okay.
All right. Just real talk,
though.
How are you feeling overall with
everything right now?
-I'm curious or what -I am.
they're gonna do with, like,
all our craft and arts and shoes
stuff.
[Lizzy] Are you?
Yeah, 'cause that's sort of
where That's my area.
Art therapy.
That's, like, that's the therapy
area.
That's the the safe space.
We are really, really trying to
make you guys happy.
Yeah. It's really him I think
that you need to
[Wilson] Impress.
-[Jandilyn] Impress him. -I
think it's both of you.
-[Jandilyn] I think it's hard.
-No, no, that's the thing.
It's not just him. It is you
too.
You do so much making everyone
else happy.
And as mothers,
we give so much of ourselves
naturally.
For real. And if it wasn't for
you,
I would not be doing this. Just,
I'm just
keeping it real, so this is
really for you.
[Lizzy] And you're in good
hands.
Thank you.
[Lizzy] Yeah. Pop that knee. Pop
the knee.
Cute!
For Jandilyn, this moment in her
life was crucial.
You ready to be the star?
something is for her.
Wilson recognized that.
[Lizzy] Oh, we love y'all. We
love y'all.
Can we get some tissue?
[upbeat funky music]
Oh, you had to see-- Oh. Oh.
It got caught in my weave. I
don't know what to say.
-There we go. -We had to adjust
too. Okay.
Wait. Why? Why are there
bifocals?
Exactly. It's like These my
hands?
They're, like, reading glasses.
But you gotta wear 'em downwards
like that.
Not like that?
You can put 'em on. Yeah.
But that doesn't-- And how safe
is that?
All right. What are we doing
here?
Okay, so, we are elevating the
cabinets
with this cool design.
Not lowering. Elevating.
Wait, I just got dizzy.
Yeah, see, I told you. I got a
little dizzy, too.
How are we supposed to do this
when this is making us dizzy?
We are elevating the cabinets
with this cool design.
-Not lowering. Elevating. -Wait,
I just got dizzy.
Yeah, see, I told you.
I got a little dizzy, too.
[Jessica] How are we supposed to
do this
when this is making us dizzy?
Jandilyn and Wilson need
storage,
but to get around Wilson's fear
of chunky, bulky,
ugly storage, we're taking it up
a notch
and making it a little bit more
chic.
Basically, you can buy any kind
of material
and you can elevate any of your
cabinets
with, like, a cool design.
[Lizzy]
not only are we hiding the
cabinets,
we're also elevating the space
since this is the adult room.
All right, so we're using half
rounds--
And texture always makes
something feel more elevated.
I agree.
And also it helps, like, make
these rooms feel very special.
I got a little dizzy.
[laughing]
Wait, you want me to do this or
you?
I'm gonna hold from a distance
and you can do it.
Shit.
No, no, you're gonna do this
side.
I'm a little nervous.
Okay. Don't-- don't do this on
my finger.
I'm not! Put your [beep] finger
there.
-We should switch spots. -No.
Okay. My reaction will be to hit
you.
-I will be like this. -Are you
looking?
Oh, my God. If it goes in my
artery, I'll die.
If you hit me with this now,
I promise you we are not
friends.
I will destroy you.
Okay. Got it.
Why are you standing far away?
-That's some messed up stuff. -I
don't want it in my leg.
Oh, my God. Girl. Give it to me.
Lemme show you how it's done.
Watch.
Just back up.
Which one do you press? Oh, wait
a minute.
How do you get the safety off?
Oh, got it.
I got it.
Ah! Oh, you just looked up too.
No, I didn't.
I moved my ponytail out the way.
Girl, back.
This is what it looks like
after--
How does this work?
In editing? Please tell me how
this works.
What is this? Is this? Oh, oh!
Movie magic.
Now it's done.
You guys do not wanna see. And
it goes right here.
I want the children to see.
That's called "wait till the end
of the show"
and you'll see how it works.
Look at how nice it looks.
[upbeat music playing]
Hey, hey! Hey!
When you need lots of storage
like Jandilyn and Wilson do,
there's a little bit of trickery
and some really clever ways
A
It's called skillset right here.
I like painting. It's relaxing.
All you have to do is get a
primer, prime it,
and then we can paint our cool
color over it.
Well, no shit, Sherlock.
You really shouldn't curse on
camera.
It's not becoming of you.
Kathy Alba would be so
disappointed in you.
Kathy Alba would be, like
"Sounds like me."
[pop music playing]
[Jessica] Okay.
This color was the color that we
were gonna do this
back wall with here, but it
felt not it.
-Heavy. Yeah. I don't know. -It
felt heavy for this wall.
It did. For this wall.
And so we're thinking maybe we
put it here.
And get these to match.
Yeah.
Especially, as they flank the
fireplace.
That's gonna be a little bit
lighter.
You know, just
Good thing we have things on the
floor to protect them.
I like it. It's definitely going
in your face.
One thousand percent.
So this being a little lighter
and then a lighter family
[Jessica] Yeah.
brightens up the space a
little.
But then we do this surprise
reveal.
I know!
[Jessica] A real creative space
for each of them.
-They are going to freak out.
-This is them.
And then this is gonna be all
the kids stuff.
Yes.
The big issue is that Jandilyn
and Wilson
have lost themselves after
becoming parents.
we're using different wallpaper
on each one of the sides
And that's, like, purse space.
That's really pretty.
Now do we do the cabinets and a
color
on the inside for the room?
I think it would be really cool.
-What about this? -For Wilson?
-I think that's cute. -Brings in
that yellow.
-Yeah. -It's handsome.
You know? And if we do, like, a
gray
I mean, they're gonna be, like,
here,
like, being creative and then
they're gonna shut these doors.
Can you show me one more time
how they're gonna be here?
They're gonna be here. Being
creative.
They're gonna be here?
Just checking.
[Jessica laughing]
This is gonna be cool, though,
because once they
Here's a really good technique.
We're creating, kind of, a more
textured look
-to a very basic cabinet door.
-Right.
Yeah. Instead of it just looking
like a plain wall or cabinet,
this actually will hide it
and make it look like an accent
wall.
It's a great way to disguise the
cabinet.
-I love it. -Okay, hold this
really quick.
-Wait a minute. Why? -I'm gonna
go get the gun.
Hmm. I feel like we need to--
Just hold it really quick.
Okay. Got it.
I don't know about this. This
was a bad idea.
Okay. Ready?
-No. -Ready?
-No. -Make sure it's even!
Okay.
No. What?
-Follow the lines. -I am.
Follow the damn lines.
-You're making me nervous.
-Okay.
-[Lizzy] Uh-uh. -What do you
mean uh-uh?
[Lizzy] I think you're doing it
wrong.
How am I doing it wrong?
[Lizzy] I don't know, it just
feels off.
-That felt off. -No, it was
perfect.
[Lizzy] I think you did it
wrong.
-No, it was good. -[Lizzy] Okay.
Okay.
I don't know why I think the
nail
is gonna come back at me.
You don't feel that way?
What? I do. Are you kidding? I'm
ducking.
No, when you shoot it, you don't
feel that way.
Absolutely not. I'm-- I'm in
control.
It's weird. I don't know, it's
like a power thing.
I'm in control.
But it's, like, I
I mean, I'm with you, I don't
wanna look at it either.
No. You, are you looking away?
-Yeah. -You can't look away!
Why?
Because you're shooting the gun.
-I I line it up. -No, no, no,
no, no.
-I line it up. -I'm not playing
with you.
-Uh-uh -I'm lining it up.
You keep your eyes. Keep your
eyes straight.
There you go.
Oh, my God.
You're not allowed to work on
construction sites
with me anymore. I'm firing you.
[upbeat music playing]
The other day, I spent a little
time with Walker
and we made art.
There you go.
Okay. I just need a little
green.
And so we chose the color
palette
of the colors that we're gonna
use in the room
So this is his take on the solar
system.
-Amazing. -This is really cool.
Can I hang this picture up in
the new space for Mom and Dad?
-Uh-huh. -You think they'll love
it?
-Uh-huh. -Good job today.
And this is such a great hack
for any parent.
Have your kid do art in the
color palette of your space.
[Lizzy] Yeah. Agreed.
It makes it not look so much
like
the artwork that you toss.
You know, that's been up on the
fridge
for three years and it looks
more permanent
'Cause we all have that. We all
have it.
Oh, yeah.
And you can choose other types
of art pieces,
-you know? -Kind of go around it
and make a little gallery wall
with it.
Exactly.
I did this in my office with my
kids.
-[Lizzy] With their art pieces?
-[Jessica] With their artwork.
Yeah. Have you never put
anything in a frame before?
I can't. I can't with you.
I just don't wanna mess up my
nails.
Oh, my God.
-It's a fresh set. -Oh, that's
so cute.
So cute. He's gonna be so proud
of that.
What about Waverley? Did she do
anything?
Did you get her handprint?
She just wasn't up for it. No,
no, no.
She was not about that life.
She really-- She was not about
that life.
So we weren't in the life of
forcing her that day.
We were, like, do you, boo.
We understand you're gonna be
you. But we did get Walker.
Nice. Nice.
-He was down. -Good.
[upbeat music playing]
[Lizzy]
and we're doing a little bit of
shopping for the Wongs.
Okay. I think every mama needs
mascara.
-[Jessica] Yes. -[Lizzy] Hands
down.
And a little rainbow towel.
Unless you wanna do this?
Let's just do both.
Cute.
Okay.
Rainbow towel.
It's a very loving way to say,
"Welcome home."
Welcome to your new space.
Hope you like it.
Hope you don't hate your new
space.
What if they literally walk in
and just, like--
What if they're, like, "Oh no!"
And they start crying out of
anger instead of joy?
Oh, my gosh. That will be
humiliating.
-You know what I love? -What do
you love?
TV Magic.
Oh, oh. Movie magic!
[upbeat music playing]
Wow. Wow. Wow.
It is coming together so nicely.
-My favorite! Organization.
-Here we go.
-Amy! -Hey, Amy!
From nimbleness. We are here. We
are organizing.
-Yes. -We are your assistants.
Let's get things out of the
boxes
and let's group them by category
so that if you're running to the
market,
you can do a quick visual eye
scan to see,
oh, I'm out of those granola
bars.
But if they're in the box,
sometimes maybe there's one.
Oh, yeah! And then you're, like,
mad.
So true. But that's what happens
with my kids.
My kids can't wait to put an
empty box back.
Yeah. Let's do kid-friendly
snacks.
Let's save the sweets and treats
for the parents
to kind of monitor. We're gonna
put them up higher.
I like to empower the kid. When
your kid says to you,
"Oh, I'm hungry, I need a
snack."
-Awesome. Go get it. -Go get it
yourself.
[Amy] You can put the crackers
in here.
[Jessica] Peanut butter cracker
is my fave.
[Lizzy] Yeah, you're a snacker.
Crackers, the cracker--
Whatever!
[Lizzy] You are.
You get mean when you don't eat.
-[Lizzy] I do. I get hangry.
-[Amy] So do I.
-[Jessica] She gets so hangry.
-[Lizzy] I do.
And then this mom's cooking.
She's busy.
She's got her pasta. Her sauces.
-Easy Yes. -Easy level for
her.
Right. Let's look at the kid
zone.
Under here, literally the whole
bottom is kid zone.
That's right. That's right.
Let's make sure that since it's
all in arm's reach
that it's all things the kids
can play with on their own.
Crafts and glitter and glue.
Those things would go up high.
So this is something the kids
can reach down below
and they know where to put
things back.
If we contain, we can maintain
because we tell the child,
"Okay, you're done playing with
that?"
-You know where it goes. -[Amy]
"It goes in this bin
or basket."
Right. Before you move on to the
next thing.
-[Lizzy] That's right. -Exactly.
-Because cleanup is a big thing.
-Yeah, it really is. Perfect.
[Jessica] Great.
[Jessica]
Holy wood. Please just remove
any sadness, anger,
frustration, any negative
feelings.
'Cause only love lives here now.
All right, let's go get the rest
of their pictures
-up on the walls. -All right.
[Lizzy] Oh, my God, it was so
great.
I think that they honestly had
the best time.
[Jessica] Ooh. Literally?
Literally.
My hands.
-What's going? -I am. I'm with
it.
Have you never hung a photo in
your entire life?
I'm trying to catch it. It
didn't catch.
Oh, my goodness. If that
falls
-Oh, my! -We don't have a
backup.
My heart dropped.
Man. They are gonna freak out on
this one.
This is actually life-changing.
This is I want to do this in
my house.
What is wrong with us?
[Lizzy] Honestly!
[Lizzy] Lemme see.
Do I have to wait for them to
knock?
Yes.
[Jessica] I wanna, like, open
the door.
[Lizzy] Oh, my, they're so--
They're so nervous.
If I'm nervous, they're nervous.
I'm nervous for them.
If I'm nervous, they're nervous.
-I can't see through. -He looks
nervous.
-He looks -I'm so nervous.
-He looks nervous. -I'm nervous.
[door knocking]
[Jandilyn] Knock, knock.
Open the door!
Welcome home!
[upbeat music playing]
[Jandilyn] Knock, knock.
Open the door!
Welcome home!
-Oh, my gosh. -Wow!
Wow, oh, my gosh.
That looks very different.
[Wilson] I love it.
There were boxes here before,
guys.
[Jandilyn]
I still think Wilson is in shock
that we pulled off that much
storage.
-[Wilson] Storage. -Storage!
[Jessica] Chic storage.
Elevated. This is date Night
Central.
I feel like when you have kids,
you often forget how important
your relationship is.
[Jandilyn] Right.
And it's literally the most
important thing you can do,
is to stay connected as a
couple.
Papa, look! Oh, my God.
That's, like, your space right
there.
[Jessica] It's a lot of storage.
-[Wilson] More storage! -Storage
for me.
-For booze. -No, for me.
-Okay. -No, this is--
this is for booze.
[Jessica]
This is your moment to really
feel sophisticated
and feel like you are a grownup
self.
And, like, you didn't have to
completely disconnect
from who you are.
You know, just because you
become a dad,
a husband, doesn't mean that you
aren't still you.
[Lizzy] We're talking to you,
Wilson.
We are talking to you.
You're looking at me. I'm
excited.
I'm jumping inside.
Jump on the outside.
Jump on the outside!
[Jessica]
Ah! Look at that.
-Wow. -Whoa.
[Wilson]
I like the prints, the textures,
the--
[Jandilyn]
[Wilson]
-[Jessica]
This fabric is great. It's
kid-friendly.
[Jessica] So this is kid
friendly too.
[Lizzy]
So once again, we've created
storage for you guys.
The whole space?
The whole space is storage.
I love it.
[Jandilyn]
I can tell 'cause it's the
planets.
And here, something that I did
in my office
and I've done in my homes is,
I like to integrate my kids into
my space.
This is a way to elevate your
kids and their artwork
and integrate it into your
design aesthetic.
And you're also, like,
capturing--
-[Jandilyn] Oh, baby. -a
moment in time.
-Yeah. -Aw. Okay.
Are you guys ready for the next
reveal?
Are you ready for the next
reveal?
-Yes! -[Jessica] Let's go.
Ah. I'm excited.
Oh, my God.
-Cameras, back up. -Cameras.
Cameras, back up.
Cameras back up. Back up.
Okay, ready?
[Lizzy]
-[Jessica]
-[Lizzy]
-Adult space. -[Jandilyn] I love
it.
So this is how you can have
all of your kids' stuff
organized.
When the kids wanna play with
something,
it's in a basket.
They take it out, they play with
it,
they put it back.
They put it back. These are all
for them.
Remember this corner was all
kids stuff.
[Jandilyn]
Now this was our special
project.
We knew you needed this.
I just I see you.
What have you done?
We knew you needed this.
Oh, don't let them peek. Okay.
I think we should put them in
front of each one.
Okay.
We want you guys to just open
your hidden
compartments back here. Come on.
So I am so proud because they
are very beautiful.
-Yeah. -What is going on here?
All right. One, two, three. Open
it up.
Oh, my God!
-Aw, that's so pretty. Aw
-[Wilson] All right. Cool.
When you can't find me in the
room, I'm here.
[Wilson]
I love it. I appreciate that you
guys thought about
giving us this space.
We knew immediately that we had
to give you guys something
that was yours in this space.
Something that you can own,
somewhere where you felt
comfortable getting loose in
your creative outlet.
I'm impressed. Thank you for
seeing us.
[upbeat music playing]
I'm just remembering when we
first walked in.
To me, like, this house wasn't a
reflection of who you are
[Wilson]
-[Jessica]
-[Jandilyn]
[Lizzy]
[Jandilyn] Right.
And so you guys added other
stuff to try and feel like
whole, I think. But all it did
was add more
when you guys have it all within
you anyway.
[Jessica]
Really acknowledge all the
thought that you put in
to putting everything together.
higher selves wanted out of this
space.
So thank you for that.
You're welcome.
Coming into this space today
definitely
Before, I always felt
overwhelmed.
I can't wait to build some
memories with my family,
-with my children, you know?
-Yeah.
Um, cause that's important.
Those experiences are--
are more important to us than
any object here.
Welcome to your home.
Wow! Welcome.
I feel like I did a really good
job on this house.
Whoa! Walking off-camera right
now.
I feel like I really love my
work.
This is just, you know, this is
just like you.
So we are gonna leave you guys
with some parting gifts.
This is your housewarming gift.
[Jandilyn] Thank you.
This is just like you to take
all the credit.
I'm really proud of us.
[Walker] These are my toys.
[Jandilyn] Yeah. More toys.
[Jandilyn] You like it?
And this is
Yay.
[upbeat music]
Basically.
[Lizzy]
is parenting can be tough at
every stage of the game.
It's a lot of yelling and we've
never been
[Jessica]
that you've got this, you're,
like, yes, I got this today.
Boom, you don't.
-[cries] -Oh
[Lizzy]
-[man] We started demolition--
-Before Emma came,
-and then Emma came. -[both]
Ohh.
I feel defeated as a working
single mom.
I don't know who said babies
don't need a lot of space,
Your family grows, your family
changes
-That's right.
Inevitably, you're gonna hit a
breaking point.
Everyday I feel like I'm
failing.
[man 2]
It's an organizational thing
too, right?
Where things are, where we put
things.
-Definitely help with that.
-Right.
Updating your home makes a
massive difference
These are all the healthy snacks
you can put at the bottom.
What a cool little hack.
This is a mom hack, you don't
wanna go
in the nursery every time you
change the baby.
With changing these homes,
Welcome home.
Oh, my God!
Thank you for seeing us.
Woo! Are you kidding me?!
I'm gonna cry.
[woman]
[woman 2]
You need to be celebrated.
-[Jandilyn] Okay, ready, set.
-One, two, three, go. Whee!
Okay, ready?
Heads up. Heads up.
One, whoa.
Hi, I'm Jandilyn Wong and this
is my husband.
Hi, I'm Wilson Wong.
[Jandilyn]
Cheers, okay.
We love 'em, but they are such a
handful.
[Waverly cries]
-Come on, what's going on, baby?
-Shh.
Oh, you know what? She didn't
get her nap.
Before kids, we took a lot of
pride in our home.
It feels like a lifetime ago.
We had been trying for several
years,
so it was a surprise when we
finally got
a positive pregnancy test and
you know we were prepared,
but we're never really prepared.
[Waverly cries]
We read so many books to learn
how to take care of babies,
And then our whole life pretty
much turned upside down.
[Wilson]
and then it got out of control.
Right when you walk in our front
door, it is pure chaos.
[Jandilyn]
I feel like it is going to help
us almost fix
the relationship amongst us,
you know, because we do get
stressed.
I'm sort of apprehensive to have
people at our home.
Walker, did you hear that? There
was a knock.
I am very embarrassed, you know,
someone's gonna step
I can imagine how hard that
would be.
Yeah.
I wouldn't even let y'all in my
front door.
No, it was actually very brave
of them.
-Yeah, it's so brave. -Yeah.
So we just thought it was super
important to make sure
that they just knew that they
were not in this alone.
-Hi. -Hi!
Welcome, oh, my gosh, nice to
have you guys!
We didn't know whether to knock
or not or walk in.
-Say hi. -Hi.
Hi, Lizzy, I'm Jandilyn.
Nice to meet you, Jandilyn.
-Hi, I'm Jessica. -Hi, nice to
meet you.
Okay, introduce us to everyone.
Okay, well, this is our eldest
son, Walker.
-This is our daughter, Waverly.
-Hi!
Oh, my goodness, you're very
cute.
-How about a high five?
-[Jandilyn] High five?
[Wilson] Oh, it's a very dirty
high five.
[Jandilyn] She was eating
chicken, I'm sorry.
[Wilson] She just had lunch, so.
Hello, how are you?
-Hi, good, good. I'm Wilson.
-Nice to meet you, Wilson.
-Hi, I'm Jessica. -Hi, Jessica,
nice to meet you.
Nice to meet you too.
Wow, okay, so this is the house.
Right, right.
[upbeat music]
[Lizzy]
I felt like a bobblehead.
This is the family room?
Yes, this the den and that's the
living dining area.
Well, you have, like, a really
big space.
-[Jandilyn] We do. -[Lizzy] You
do.
Smaller bedrooms, but--
[Lizzy]
Yeah, and I love a vaulted
ceiling.
Same, same.
Imagine what it must feel like
being
in that space constantly and
trying to focus on your kids
or dinner or work or whatever
the thing--
[exhales]
Whoosah. Whoosah.
-It's a lot of stuff. -It's a
lot.
So I think this is the best time
to maybe hand off the kids to
the grandma.
Say bye-bye.
-Bye-bye. -Bye-bye.
-Oh, my gosh. -I love that age.
-It's such a good age. -Mhm.
Does it make you wanna have
another one?
-No. Definitely not. -Damn.
Come on, lets get pregnant
together again.
What are we even talking about?
Our last pregnancy was
geriatric, sister.
Marinate on that one.
I want more defined spaces in
our home
so that we can clearly say that
this space is
Was it having your first that
you just felt like you
just started accumulating a lot
of things
and you needed places to put
them? Was that it?
My wife, you know, she loves to
prepare for everything.
Yeah.
And so, shopping for all the
necessary pieces,
Planning and--
So, with the baby born, she
wanted to prepare for the baby.
I think as new parents, that's
the--
That's your challenge
constantly.
I need all this new stuff,
I need all these things for this
little baby--
You really don't.
[Lizzy]
[Jessica]
All you needed was--
A onesie, a diaper, and a
bottle, or a boob.
[Lizzy laughs]
Sometimes I'm not able to find
things that we need,
so we can easily go online.
So you might have doubles or
triples of the same thing.
Exactly, so I'm gonna have
over--
Oh, snap. Oh, you can't find
stuff in the house?
Sometimes, yes.
-Ahh. -Ahh.
[Lizzy] Okay, okay, I see.
So it's an organizational thing
too, right?
It's not having a great system
on knowing where things are,
where we put things.
We can definitely help with
that.
Right, I really love the
emphasis on organization
because I know for her, it's
like,
"Oh, we need storage solutions."
Well, I don't want cabinets
everywhere.
Yeah.
I really want the organizational
aspect of it.
But it does actually take
cabinets,
but it's looking, it can be
chic.
Yeah.
You need storage literally
everywhere.
Everywhere. Every room needs
storage.
-Don't fret. -Don't fret.
Storage needs to be everywhere.
But I think there's a beautiful
way to do it,
because when you really think
about storage,
I think the fear sometimes,
storage equals bulky.
Right, no, can't be bulky.
And storage does not have to be
bulky.
Mmm-mm.
And then what is this here?
This is creative station it
feels like.
[Wilson]
of sneaker customizing or
painting, things like that.
It's my creative outlet.
-Ohh, okay. Okay. -That's really
cool.
-[Wilson]-[Jandilyn]
Uh-huh. Let me see.
-What! How cute is this? -This
could be a little Etsy.
[Jessica] It's so cute.
Okay, what's behind me? What's
this?
[Wilson]
[Jessica]
-This is where you mix drinks.
-Right.
This is where you kinda
entertain,
[Jessica]
[Wilson]
for our loved ones, our friends.
I used to be a college radio DJ,
I still have my turn tables
in my bedroom buried under shoe
boxes right now.
I think one of the things that
we lost as parents
is almost, like, our hobbies,
you know, our interest.
So that's one of the things I
would like to see
this space to be, to have, like,
arts and crafts and, like
-Right. -for us and the kids,
of course.
It's okay for you to want stuff
that's just for you.
Yes.
And it doesn't have to be "and
also the kids."
You can maintain and hold on to
your true, authentic self,
be amazing parents, be an
amazing human,
and give to them everything that
they need.
You can have both, okay? I wanna
hug you.
[Jessica]
just buried under this weight
and all these dreams
and desires and thoughts that
they have
all just, like, piled into this
space.
When you're cluttered in your
space, it also feels
like they're cluttered up here.
-Yeah. -And in here.
I feel like this is, like, kids
central.
I see arts and crafts here, all
of our building blocks.
-Right. -And we have another
table.
-Right. -Oh!
[objects clattering]
[Jandilyn] Oh, my God, are you
okay?
I see slides, I see arts and
crafts, building blocks.
-Right. -And we have another
table.
-Right. -Oh!
[objects clattering]
-Oh, my God, are you okay?
-Lizzy.
Lizzy.
[Jessica] Wow, Lizzy. What is
wrong with you?
My goal is not to torture you, I
promise.
Oh, my God, this was my biggest
fear,
walking in and feel like the
little kids
were gonna climb the boxes and
fall over.
You mean you accidentally almost
impaled me.
I remember that.
And I was almost concussed.
Yes, concussed, sure, that,
uh-huh.
Oh, what is this?
-Sexy photo. -Wow, wow.
[Wilson] Yeah, that was before
we got married, before kids.
This is, like, sexy cool.
-Mhm -That's what this is.
-Very cool. -[Lizzy] Sexy cool.
[Jessica] Yeah, and you guys are
still these people.
-I think that's what our job is.
-Yeah.
To make sure they know they can
still be those cool,
sexy, fun parents.
Get that sexy back and still be
an amazing mom and dad.
What do you want out of your
home?
I want it to be organized,
clutter-free,
where we can entertain again,
maybe have our love ones visit
the kids every day.
I feel like I'm failing, you
know, as a parent
and as an individual, and a
partner.
[Wilson] You know you're my ride
or die,
so we'll get through this.
Right, right.
It's really brave of you to be
vulnerable
and to allow us to come into
your space,
and so, thank you for opening
yourself up to that
because that's really, really
hard to do.
-[Wilson] Yeah. -Thank you.
We're gonna create an amazing
space
[Jessica] Yeah.
that you guys are going to
love.
This is going to be awesome, and
if it's not
-Go after her. -[Jessica laughs]
I'll give you Lizzy's address.
[everyone laughs]
All right, Wong family design
meeting.
We want them to bring back
their sophisticated, elevated
vibe.
Cool, sexy, fun vibe.
They can entertain, but then
also do the family thing.
Right.
We need to have the adult zone,
the kids zone.
[Lizzy]
[Jessica]
I want to walk into the sitting
room.
What if we make this the dining
table?
You don't like it here?
I feel like it's blocking the
fire place.
Hmm.
-It's a couch. -Oh.
-Do you like my illustrations?
-That's not a couch.
It's a couch.
There's the back of the couch.
It's a monkey bar set.
You put monkey bars in there.
I'm not really sure why it has
legs right here.
Okay.
-So this is couch. -Couch.
Dining table.
Do we like table pushed into
this corner though?
-But if it's, like, a bench--
-Doesn't that feel tight?
I think that's what you're--
You're absolutely right.
Why don't you draw a little
bench?
Of course there's gonna be a
bench.
Draw.
Bench.
You know what, 'cause I thought
you were gonna write
something else, so I'm glad that
turned out--
I think that Jess and I, I
learned a long time ago,
have our own language.
Sometimes it sounds like
fighting.
It does.
Comes out a little bit snappy.
It's more like sisters that
bicker
except we don't run away from
it.
-We lean in. -Head first.
To bickering sisters.
Oww.
-Bench. -Okay.
[Jessica]
[Lizzy]
Bar.
[Lizzy]
[Jessica]
[upbeat music]
-Hi! -Hi!
-We're back. -Yay!
We are back.
-We brought a friend. -We
brought a friend.
This is Amy from Nimble Nest.
Amy is an angel from heaven
basically.
She's an expert in really honing
in on the things
that will bring you the most
joy, the most light,
the stuff that you actually need
and then how
to, sort of, move on from the
things
that you don't necessarily need
in your lives.
It gives me nightmares to see,
like, this every day.
Did you say I give you
nightmares?
Not you.
How should we start?
[Amy]
we really just start from one
corner of the room
but the key is to hone in on our
categories.
So, keepsakes.
I don't tell people to get rid
of things
if they're not ready.
Trash, obviously, and relocate.
So what that means is, we love
it, we're keeping it,
and I found a pair of underwear,
right?
Underwear don't belong in the
living room,
they belong in the bedroom.
I promise you, the way energy
flows,
goodness will come back in.
-Everyone needs an Amy. -Yes.
-Everyone. -We all need Amy.
We all need an Amy in our lives.
She's good at making everyone
know
that they are not alone in this
process.
Exactly.
-Everybody in? -[all] Go team!
Trash bags.
Okay, so, what about the slide?
[Jandilyn] We can give it away,
or donate, right?
-[Jessica] Awesome. -[Lizzy]
Yay!
Okay, donate.
[objects clatter]
So can I just, like, have a beer
while you guys do this?
[girls laugh]
He started to see it go and I
feel like he was, like,
"Am I regretting this or am I
into this?"
And I think he really felt more
like he was regretting it.
[laughing]
But there was no turning back,
we were in too deep.
Aye!
And this one's keep.
[upbeat music]
-We're here! -[Lizzy laughs]
-Whoa. -[Jessica] This is wild.
Aye, aye, aye.
[Jessica]
We're here.
Tinku! TJ.
-It's empty. -Oh, my God.
-TJ, Tinku. He's basically
-So many names.
[Jessica]
[Lizzy]
Jess is right brain, I'm left
brain,
Tinku is definitely our spine,
right?
-Yeah. -Central nervous system.
-Yeah. -I think so.
-Yeah, I think I'm both brains.
-You think so?
-I think so. -Okay, well, you be
both.
[Lizzy] Whoa!
[Jessica] This is wild, like,
what?
The light that is coming into
this room
-Yeah, it's night and day.
-is insane.
-This is awesome. -[Jessica]
This is massive.
It's really big.
I really think we can do
some floor-to-ceiling cabinets.
Storage, people don't
understand.
No house is built with enough
storage ever
in the history of mankind.
Something about when you become
a parent,
you realize that there is more
things that you have
that you could ever imagine in
your tight space now
That you don't need to see.
that you never thought you
would see.
If we do floor-to-ceiling, I
think it won't--
'Cause remember he said he
didn't want cabinets everywhere.
Wilson?
Yeah, Wilson, so I think if we
do floor to ceiling,
there's a way to do it where we
can kinda disguise it.
Wilson did throw out a little
bit
of a design challenge for us.
He told us straight up that he
did not like bulky cabinets.
Well you know what, Wilson,
challenge accepted.
We're going to design a space
with a lot of cabinets and a lot
of storage,
and it's gonna beautiful and
it's gonna help them so much
-with their storage issues.
-Yeah.
All right, so, what colors do we
have to work with?
[Jessica]
[Lizzy] Concentrate,
concentrate.
What do you mean concentrate?
Concentrate on what?
Concentrate on getting it inside
the paint can.
Well, I don't see you helping
me.
-Well, this is great. -I see you
just standing here.
I am really overseeing.
Judging.
Look, oh, that awesome, look at
you.
[Jessica] What?
[Lizzy] Oh, you just made a
messy with it.
I like this.
Remember my first honest teal
color?
It kinda remind me of that.
[Lizzy] So you picked out these
colors?
They said they liked teal.
We think it's important to use
zero VOC paint.
Which means it doesn't contain
any volatile,
organic compounds, and has an
ultra-low odor
which is safer for your family.
Look at her just go.
I think that's all she wants to
do.
This is all she cares about.
This feels more elevated.
I like this one.
This one does feel richer
though.
I have no opinion.
Tinku, why do you hate design
decisions so much?
I think you just don't like to
commit
which is why it took you so long
to get engaged.
Why is she bringing up your old
shit, huh?
-Why she bringing up old stuff?
-What are you talking about?
All right, so you just basically
painted the one I painted
over there closer to yours?
Yeah, so that we can really look
at the difference.
That's called control.
Do you get the impression
she just likes messing things
up?
Just paint the whole wall, Jess.
-[Jessica] Wait. -[Lizzy] So we
can get
the whole vibe.
Look at her, don't even care
about the floors, nothing.
[Jessica] This is the only way.
I think she just wanted to paint
today.
-All right. -[Tinku] Little bit.
All right, I have a clear
favorite.
So do I, but if I say it,
she's gonna go with the
opposite.
Okay, if that's number one and
that's number two,
I think we all say it at the
same time.
Three, two, one.
-[all] One. -[Tinku] Wow.
Decisions made.
I bet you if I said one, she'd
be, like, "Well"
-Told you I was right. -Told
you.
[upbeat music]
[Lizzy]
but I still think Mom and Dad
need something a little bit
extra.
and they lost touch with who
they were.
we knew instantly that one of
our goals had to be
to reconnect this couple.
so we could not only bring the
sexy back for them,
but so they could see each other
again,
and this time, as a family.
-Hello. -[all] Hi!
Family.
-Hi! -How are you?
Oh, my God, this is so exciting.
[photographer] One more smile.
Cheese. Big smiles.
Huddle in, heads together.
Yeah, let's bring that sexy
back.
[photographer] So beautiful.
Cute.
[Wilson]
[Lizzy] Yes, queen, yes, queen.
Yes, queen. That's my queen.
That's right. That's his queen
over here.
[Wilson] You're an animal.
You're a cat.
Do it. There you go.
[Lizzy] Okay. That's so good.
Okay.
All right. Just real talk,
though.
How are you feeling overall with
everything right now?
-I'm curious or what -I am.
they're gonna do with, like,
all our craft and arts and shoes
stuff.
[Lizzy] Are you?
Yeah, 'cause that's sort of
where That's my area.
Art therapy.
That's, like, that's the therapy
area.
That's the the safe space.
We are really, really trying to
make you guys happy.
Yeah. It's really him I think
that you need to
[Wilson] Impress.
-[Jandilyn] Impress him. -I
think it's both of you.
-[Jandilyn] I think it's hard.
-No, no, that's the thing.
It's not just him. It is you
too.
You do so much making everyone
else happy.
And as mothers,
we give so much of ourselves
naturally.
For real. And if it wasn't for
you,
I would not be doing this. Just,
I'm just
keeping it real, so this is
really for you.
[Lizzy] And you're in good
hands.
Thank you.
[Lizzy] Yeah. Pop that knee. Pop
the knee.
Cute!
For Jandilyn, this moment in her
life was crucial.
You ready to be the star?
something is for her.
Wilson recognized that.
[Lizzy] Oh, we love y'all. We
love y'all.
Can we get some tissue?
[upbeat funky music]
Oh, you had to see-- Oh. Oh.
It got caught in my weave. I
don't know what to say.
-There we go. -We had to adjust
too. Okay.
Wait. Why? Why are there
bifocals?
Exactly. It's like These my
hands?
They're, like, reading glasses.
But you gotta wear 'em downwards
like that.
Not like that?
You can put 'em on. Yeah.
But that doesn't-- And how safe
is that?
All right. What are we doing
here?
Okay, so, we are elevating the
cabinets
with this cool design.
Not lowering. Elevating.
Wait, I just got dizzy.
Yeah, see, I told you. I got a
little dizzy, too.
How are we supposed to do this
when this is making us dizzy?
We are elevating the cabinets
with this cool design.
-Not lowering. Elevating. -Wait,
I just got dizzy.
Yeah, see, I told you.
I got a little dizzy, too.
[Jessica] How are we supposed to
do this
when this is making us dizzy?
Jandilyn and Wilson need
storage,
but to get around Wilson's fear
of chunky, bulky,
ugly storage, we're taking it up
a notch
and making it a little bit more
chic.
Basically, you can buy any kind
of material
and you can elevate any of your
cabinets
with, like, a cool design.
[Lizzy]
not only are we hiding the
cabinets,
we're also elevating the space
since this is the adult room.
All right, so we're using half
rounds--
And texture always makes
something feel more elevated.
I agree.
And also it helps, like, make
these rooms feel very special.
I got a little dizzy.
[laughing]
Wait, you want me to do this or
you?
I'm gonna hold from a distance
and you can do it.
Shit.
No, no, you're gonna do this
side.
I'm a little nervous.
Okay. Don't-- don't do this on
my finger.
I'm not! Put your [beep] finger
there.
-We should switch spots. -No.
Okay. My reaction will be to hit
you.
-I will be like this. -Are you
looking?
Oh, my God. If it goes in my
artery, I'll die.
If you hit me with this now,
I promise you we are not
friends.
I will destroy you.
Okay. Got it.
Why are you standing far away?
-That's some messed up stuff. -I
don't want it in my leg.
Oh, my God. Girl. Give it to me.
Lemme show you how it's done.
Watch.
Just back up.
Which one do you press? Oh, wait
a minute.
How do you get the safety off?
Oh, got it.
I got it.
Ah! Oh, you just looked up too.
No, I didn't.
I moved my ponytail out the way.
Girl, back.
This is what it looks like
after--
How does this work?
In editing? Please tell me how
this works.
What is this? Is this? Oh, oh!
Movie magic.
Now it's done.
You guys do not wanna see. And
it goes right here.
I want the children to see.
That's called "wait till the end
of the show"
and you'll see how it works.
Look at how nice it looks.
[upbeat music playing]
Hey, hey! Hey!
When you need lots of storage
like Jandilyn and Wilson do,
there's a little bit of trickery
and some really clever ways
A
It's called skillset right here.
I like painting. It's relaxing.
All you have to do is get a
primer, prime it,
and then we can paint our cool
color over it.
Well, no shit, Sherlock.
You really shouldn't curse on
camera.
It's not becoming of you.
Kathy Alba would be so
disappointed in you.
Kathy Alba would be, like
"Sounds like me."
[pop music playing]
[Jessica] Okay.
This color was the color that we
were gonna do this
back wall with here, but it
felt not it.
-Heavy. Yeah. I don't know. -It
felt heavy for this wall.
It did. For this wall.
And so we're thinking maybe we
put it here.
And get these to match.
Yeah.
Especially, as they flank the
fireplace.
That's gonna be a little bit
lighter.
You know, just
Good thing we have things on the
floor to protect them.
I like it. It's definitely going
in your face.
One thousand percent.
So this being a little lighter
and then a lighter family
[Jessica] Yeah.
brightens up the space a
little.
But then we do this surprise
reveal.
I know!
[Jessica] A real creative space
for each of them.
-They are going to freak out.
-This is them.
And then this is gonna be all
the kids stuff.
Yes.
The big issue is that Jandilyn
and Wilson
have lost themselves after
becoming parents.
we're using different wallpaper
on each one of the sides
And that's, like, purse space.
That's really pretty.
Now do we do the cabinets and a
color
on the inside for the room?
I think it would be really cool.
-What about this? -For Wilson?
-I think that's cute. -Brings in
that yellow.
-Yeah. -It's handsome.
You know? And if we do, like, a
gray
I mean, they're gonna be, like,
here,
like, being creative and then
they're gonna shut these doors.
Can you show me one more time
how they're gonna be here?
They're gonna be here. Being
creative.
They're gonna be here?
Just checking.
[Jessica laughing]
This is gonna be cool, though,
because once they
Here's a really good technique.
We're creating, kind of, a more
textured look
-to a very basic cabinet door.
-Right.
Yeah. Instead of it just looking
like a plain wall or cabinet,
this actually will hide it
and make it look like an accent
wall.
It's a great way to disguise the
cabinet.
-I love it. -Okay, hold this
really quick.
-Wait a minute. Why? -I'm gonna
go get the gun.
Hmm. I feel like we need to--
Just hold it really quick.
Okay. Got it.
I don't know about this. This
was a bad idea.
Okay. Ready?
-No. -Ready?
-No. -Make sure it's even!
Okay.
No. What?
-Follow the lines. -I am.
Follow the damn lines.
-You're making me nervous.
-Okay.
-[Lizzy] Uh-uh. -What do you
mean uh-uh?
[Lizzy] I think you're doing it
wrong.
How am I doing it wrong?
[Lizzy] I don't know, it just
feels off.
-That felt off. -No, it was
perfect.
[Lizzy] I think you did it
wrong.
-No, it was good. -[Lizzy] Okay.
Okay.
I don't know why I think the
nail
is gonna come back at me.
You don't feel that way?
What? I do. Are you kidding? I'm
ducking.
No, when you shoot it, you don't
feel that way.
Absolutely not. I'm-- I'm in
control.
It's weird. I don't know, it's
like a power thing.
I'm in control.
But it's, like, I
I mean, I'm with you, I don't
wanna look at it either.
No. You, are you looking away?
-Yeah. -You can't look away!
Why?
Because you're shooting the gun.
-I I line it up. -No, no, no,
no, no.
-I line it up. -I'm not playing
with you.
-Uh-uh -I'm lining it up.
You keep your eyes. Keep your
eyes straight.
There you go.
Oh, my God.
You're not allowed to work on
construction sites
with me anymore. I'm firing you.
[upbeat music playing]
The other day, I spent a little
time with Walker
and we made art.
There you go.
Okay. I just need a little
green.
And so we chose the color
palette
of the colors that we're gonna
use in the room
So this is his take on the solar
system.
-Amazing. -This is really cool.
Can I hang this picture up in
the new space for Mom and Dad?
-Uh-huh. -You think they'll love
it?
-Uh-huh. -Good job today.
And this is such a great hack
for any parent.
Have your kid do art in the
color palette of your space.
[Lizzy] Yeah. Agreed.
It makes it not look so much
like
the artwork that you toss.
You know, that's been up on the
fridge
for three years and it looks
more permanent
'Cause we all have that. We all
have it.
Oh, yeah.
And you can choose other types
of art pieces,
-you know? -Kind of go around it
and make a little gallery wall
with it.
Exactly.
I did this in my office with my
kids.
-[Lizzy] With their art pieces?
-[Jessica] With their artwork.
Yeah. Have you never put
anything in a frame before?
I can't. I can't with you.
I just don't wanna mess up my
nails.
Oh, my God.
-It's a fresh set. -Oh, that's
so cute.
So cute. He's gonna be so proud
of that.
What about Waverley? Did she do
anything?
Did you get her handprint?
She just wasn't up for it. No,
no, no.
She was not about that life.
She really-- She was not about
that life.
So we weren't in the life of
forcing her that day.
We were, like, do you, boo.
We understand you're gonna be
you. But we did get Walker.
Nice. Nice.
-He was down. -Good.
[upbeat music playing]
[Lizzy]
and we're doing a little bit of
shopping for the Wongs.
Okay. I think every mama needs
mascara.
-[Jessica] Yes. -[Lizzy] Hands
down.
And a little rainbow towel.
Unless you wanna do this?
Let's just do both.
Cute.
Okay.
Rainbow towel.
It's a very loving way to say,
"Welcome home."
Welcome to your new space.
Hope you like it.
Hope you don't hate your new
space.
What if they literally walk in
and just, like--
What if they're, like, "Oh no!"
And they start crying out of
anger instead of joy?
Oh, my gosh. That will be
humiliating.
-You know what I love? -What do
you love?
TV Magic.
Oh, oh. Movie magic!
[upbeat music playing]
Wow. Wow. Wow.
It is coming together so nicely.
-My favorite! Organization.
-Here we go.
-Amy! -Hey, Amy!
From nimbleness. We are here. We
are organizing.
-Yes. -We are your assistants.
Let's get things out of the
boxes
and let's group them by category
so that if you're running to the
market,
you can do a quick visual eye
scan to see,
oh, I'm out of those granola
bars.
But if they're in the box,
sometimes maybe there's one.
Oh, yeah! And then you're, like,
mad.
So true. But that's what happens
with my kids.
My kids can't wait to put an
empty box back.
Yeah. Let's do kid-friendly
snacks.
Let's save the sweets and treats
for the parents
to kind of monitor. We're gonna
put them up higher.
I like to empower the kid. When
your kid says to you,
"Oh, I'm hungry, I need a
snack."
-Awesome. Go get it. -Go get it
yourself.
[Amy] You can put the crackers
in here.
[Jessica] Peanut butter cracker
is my fave.
[Lizzy] Yeah, you're a snacker.
Crackers, the cracker--
Whatever!
[Lizzy] You are.
You get mean when you don't eat.
-[Lizzy] I do. I get hangry.
-[Amy] So do I.
-[Jessica] She gets so hangry.
-[Lizzy] I do.
And then this mom's cooking.
She's busy.
She's got her pasta. Her sauces.
-Easy Yes. -Easy level for
her.
Right. Let's look at the kid
zone.
Under here, literally the whole
bottom is kid zone.
That's right. That's right.
Let's make sure that since it's
all in arm's reach
that it's all things the kids
can play with on their own.
Crafts and glitter and glue.
Those things would go up high.
So this is something the kids
can reach down below
and they know where to put
things back.
If we contain, we can maintain
because we tell the child,
"Okay, you're done playing with
that?"
-You know where it goes. -[Amy]
"It goes in this bin
or basket."
Right. Before you move on to the
next thing.
-[Lizzy] That's right. -Exactly.
-Because cleanup is a big thing.
-Yeah, it really is. Perfect.
[Jessica] Great.
[Jessica]
Holy wood. Please just remove
any sadness, anger,
frustration, any negative
feelings.
'Cause only love lives here now.
All right, let's go get the rest
of their pictures
-up on the walls. -All right.
[Lizzy] Oh, my God, it was so
great.
I think that they honestly had
the best time.
[Jessica] Ooh. Literally?
Literally.
My hands.
-What's going? -I am. I'm with
it.
Have you never hung a photo in
your entire life?
I'm trying to catch it. It
didn't catch.
Oh, my goodness. If that
falls
-Oh, my! -We don't have a
backup.
My heart dropped.
Man. They are gonna freak out on
this one.
This is actually life-changing.
This is I want to do this in
my house.
What is wrong with us?
[Lizzy] Honestly!
[Lizzy] Lemme see.
Do I have to wait for them to
knock?
Yes.
[Jessica] I wanna, like, open
the door.
[Lizzy] Oh, my, they're so--
They're so nervous.
If I'm nervous, they're nervous.
I'm nervous for them.
If I'm nervous, they're nervous.
-I can't see through. -He looks
nervous.
-He looks -I'm so nervous.
-He looks nervous. -I'm nervous.
[door knocking]
[Jandilyn] Knock, knock.
Open the door!
Welcome home!
[upbeat music playing]
[Jandilyn] Knock, knock.
Open the door!
Welcome home!
-Oh, my gosh. -Wow!
Wow, oh, my gosh.
That looks very different.
[Wilson] I love it.
There were boxes here before,
guys.
[Jandilyn]
I still think Wilson is in shock
that we pulled off that much
storage.
-[Wilson] Storage. -Storage!
[Jessica] Chic storage.
Elevated. This is date Night
Central.
I feel like when you have kids,
you often forget how important
your relationship is.
[Jandilyn] Right.
And it's literally the most
important thing you can do,
is to stay connected as a
couple.
Papa, look! Oh, my God.
That's, like, your space right
there.
[Jessica] It's a lot of storage.
-[Wilson] More storage! -Storage
for me.
-For booze. -No, for me.
-Okay. -No, this is--
this is for booze.
[Jessica]
This is your moment to really
feel sophisticated
and feel like you are a grownup
self.
And, like, you didn't have to
completely disconnect
from who you are.
You know, just because you
become a dad,
a husband, doesn't mean that you
aren't still you.
[Lizzy] We're talking to you,
Wilson.
We are talking to you.
You're looking at me. I'm
excited.
I'm jumping inside.
Jump on the outside.
Jump on the outside!
[Jessica]
Ah! Look at that.
-Wow. -Whoa.
[Wilson]
I like the prints, the textures,
the--
[Jandilyn]
[Wilson]
-[Jessica]
This fabric is great. It's
kid-friendly.
[Jessica] So this is kid
friendly too.
[Lizzy]
So once again, we've created
storage for you guys.
The whole space?
The whole space is storage.
I love it.
[Jandilyn]
I can tell 'cause it's the
planets.
And here, something that I did
in my office
and I've done in my homes is,
I like to integrate my kids into
my space.
This is a way to elevate your
kids and their artwork
and integrate it into your
design aesthetic.
And you're also, like,
capturing--
-[Jandilyn] Oh, baby. -a
moment in time.
-Yeah. -Aw. Okay.
Are you guys ready for the next
reveal?
Are you ready for the next
reveal?
-Yes! -[Jessica] Let's go.
Ah. I'm excited.
Oh, my God.
-Cameras, back up. -Cameras.
Cameras, back up.
Cameras back up. Back up.
Okay, ready?
[Lizzy]
-[Jessica]
-[Lizzy]
-Adult space. -[Jandilyn] I love
it.
So this is how you can have
all of your kids' stuff
organized.
When the kids wanna play with
something,
it's in a basket.
They take it out, they play with
it,
they put it back.
They put it back. These are all
for them.
Remember this corner was all
kids stuff.
[Jandilyn]
Now this was our special
project.
We knew you needed this.
I just I see you.
What have you done?
We knew you needed this.
Oh, don't let them peek. Okay.
I think we should put them in
front of each one.
Okay.
We want you guys to just open
your hidden
compartments back here. Come on.
So I am so proud because they
are very beautiful.
-Yeah. -What is going on here?
All right. One, two, three. Open
it up.
Oh, my God!
-Aw, that's so pretty. Aw
-[Wilson] All right. Cool.
When you can't find me in the
room, I'm here.
[Wilson]
I love it. I appreciate that you
guys thought about
giving us this space.
We knew immediately that we had
to give you guys something
that was yours in this space.
Something that you can own,
somewhere where you felt
comfortable getting loose in
your creative outlet.
I'm impressed. Thank you for
seeing us.
[upbeat music playing]
I'm just remembering when we
first walked in.
To me, like, this house wasn't a
reflection of who you are
[Wilson]
-[Jessica]
-[Jandilyn]
[Lizzy]
[Jandilyn] Right.
And so you guys added other
stuff to try and feel like
whole, I think. But all it did
was add more
when you guys have it all within
you anyway.
[Jessica]
Really acknowledge all the
thought that you put in
to putting everything together.
higher selves wanted out of this
space.
So thank you for that.
You're welcome.
Coming into this space today
definitely
Before, I always felt
overwhelmed.
I can't wait to build some
memories with my family,
-with my children, you know?
-Yeah.
Um, cause that's important.
Those experiences are--
are more important to us than
any object here.
Welcome to your home.
Wow! Welcome.
I feel like I did a really good
job on this house.
Whoa! Walking off-camera right
now.
I feel like I really love my
work.
This is just, you know, this is
just like you.
So we are gonna leave you guys
with some parting gifts.
This is your housewarming gift.
