Ishura (2024) s01e03 Episode Script

Dakai the Magpie and Regnejee the Wings of Sunset

1
[epic choral music playing]
[narrator] The True Demon King has died.
The enemy of the world
that filled the horizon with fear,
was defeated by somebody.
To this very day,
that lone Hero remains unknown,
both in name and existence.
Now the age of fear has come to an end,
that person has to be chosen.
[theme music]
ISHURA
New Principality of Lithia
[indistinct chatter]
[lively music playing]
[indistinct chatter]
Minia
Taren the Guarded
[child] Master Taren!
Hmm?
[panting]
[Taren] What's the matter, young boy?
I'm afraid I can't give you
any sugar sweets.
My dad says that you help him a lot.
He says he's been getting more customers,
so I wanted to thank you.
Mm.
I see.
[chuckles]
[Taren] But it's not like I've been
helping your dad personally.
Creating plans to ensure the citizens
of Lithia don't suffer is my job.
[child] Is that so?
It sure is.
Just like opening the store every day
is your dad's job.
If you want to thank someone,
thank your dad.
B-But handicrafts
I learned handicrafts at the kids club.
[child] So I made this for you,
Master Taren.
It's perfect for keeping my hair bands in.
I'll use it well.
[child gasps softly]
Study hard, young boy.
Become a fine citizen of Lithia,
like your dad.
[child] I will!
[epic battle music]
[narrator] Taren the Guarded
has seen many battles, and once belonged
to the Twenty-Nine Officials of Aureatia,
ranking as the Twenty-Third General.
- [horses neighing]
- She was an outstanding talent
and excelled not just in literary
and martial arts but in politics too.
When the True Demon King died,
she declared independence from Aureatia.
Acknowledged
as the self-proclaimed Demon King,
she possesses her own military force
and is preparing
for conflict with Aureatia.
Episode 3
Dakai the Magpie
and Regnejee the Wings of Sunset
Central Citadel of Lithia
[Taren] War with Aureatia is coming.
I must hasten all preparations.
I won't miss this chance
for absolute victory.
[door closes]
Dakai,
I know you're back.
No way.
[Dakai] How did you know?
[Taren] Just a guess.
I always say that
when I come back to the office.
I guess it was worth it
since I got to see that reaction of yours.
You're really something,
Miss Taren.
Did you find what I asked you
to get from Nagan?
I wouldn't be back otherwise.
Hm.
[Dakai] It's what you wanted, right?
Without a doubt. The Cold Star.
You truly are remarkably resourceful,
Dakai.
So, what exactly is that thing?
A magic item, documented in records from
before the era of the True Demon King.
[Taren] I suspected that
the self-proclaimed Demon King Kiyazuna
had been using it
to power the Great Labyrinth.
Looks like I was right.
After passing through the central crystal,
sunlight is changed into explosive light,
capable of even bombarding a city.
[laughs]
Sounds dangerous.
[Taren] Not a single thing cast out from
the Distant World is gentle in nature.
Enchanted swords and magic items
Aberrant entities that cannot be tolerated
in the Distant World, flow into our world.
Are you talking about me?
Surely you don't consider yourself
to be a gentle being?
That sword certainly isn't.
[Taren] The Magicked Blade of Razhucort,
which prides itself on
seizing the initiative in any attack.
It was cast out
from the Distant World too, right?
Perhaps.
What about the other magic items
besides the Cold Star?
Did you have time to check?
I looked around.
But I didn't find anything else of value.
That's fine.
The Cold Star is all I need.
So you don't mind that I didn't
bring the Dungeon Golem back?
I don't know who defeated it,
but it looked like
a serious piece of gear.
Those self-proclaimed Demon Kings
outdid themselves.
I thought you defeated it.
Well, it just means there's
someone else as strong as me.
Somewhere out there.
The seal was in its right shoulder.
Am I right?
I haven't heard anything specific yet.
Aureatia collected the wreckage.
That's a shame.
I would have liked
to see you use that sword.
Your expectations are too high.
I'm not a swordsman.
Still, now that you found
the magic item I wanted,
I'll have to give you another job.
[Taren] For nearly two months now,
merchant caravans going in and out
of Lithia have come under attack.
Probably by outlaws sent from Aureatia.
So I've heard.
But isn't Regnejee
protecting the skies of Lithia?
A bunch of outlaws
shouldn't pose any threat.
If they steal our cargo
on its way to Lithia,
then not even an army of wyverns
can help us.
These outlaws,
who keep popping up around Lithia,
present another problem.
[Dakai laughs]
A difficult problem?
The enemy is using the outlaws
to observe the measures we take.
Like when wyvern interception
will be slightly delayed,
or when important cargo is being carried.
So basically, you think that
somebody is leaking this information?
[Taren] Yes.
Find out who's informing Aureatia,
then capture them.
You're free to put
that sword of yours to good use.
Put to good use
[chuckles]
I thought I told you, I'm not a swordsman.
[background chatter]
[indistinct chatter]
[merchant 1] Okay, relay that info
to Aureatia
- [Dakai] A moment of your time, gentlemen?
- [all] Huh?
[soft chuckle]
[merchant 1] Of course, what is it?
[merchant 2] If you're after smoked meat
Some outlaws came right up
to the front of the city.
[Dakai] Was it to send in spies?
[all grunt]
You weren't really trying to find holes
in our aerial defense system, were you?
[Dakai] Amidst the chaos,
you hitched a ride with a merchant
and slipped right into Lithia.
Acting as if you were merchants
from elsewhere who had been attacked.
If you're identifying as merchants,
then I guess there's more of you.
I suspect there are others
snooping on the command structure.
Oh?
- [rifle fires]
- [sword clinks]
- [scoffs]
- [all groan]
[thrilling music]
[Dakai] Four shooters.
Three others hiding.
That makes seven altogether.
[rifle fires]
Trapping the enemy
A terrain suited for sniping
Is this their version of a fortress?
I knew it.
[clanks]
[worried grunt]
- [rifle fires]
- [sword clinks]
Aureatia Secret Service, huh?
You guys are good.
[gasps]
[both groan]
[rifle fires]
[Dakai] Four shots so far.
All shooters are reloading.
[surprised gasp]
[body thuds]
[exclaims]
[thuds]
[shocked gasp]
[Dakai] Now, who's left?
One, two, plus another three.
Five, huh?
[grunts]
[blood splats]
That brings it down to four.
- [panting]
- [blood splats]
[both gasp]
[both groan]
Don't even try to escape.
You can't.
If I take care of you two,
there'll be just one left.
[scared gasp]
What do you think? Should I kill you both?
[breathes sharply]
I surrender.
If you're going to show mercy,
let him live.
B-But
You can't beat this swordsman.
This guy is
[terrified scream]
Trying to buy time for your friend inside
by wasting time begging for your lives?
I'm familiar with that trick.
[scared gasp]
[Dakai] There's no reason
for me to let him live either.
Everything's recorded
on this piece of paper, isn't it?
I took it from the guy I just killed.
I-I won't resist!
So please, show the mercy of a swordsman!
No can do.
[swooshes]
[Dakai] Because I'm not a swordsman.
I'm a bandit.
[epic choral music playing]
[Taren] Dakai the Magpie.
An aberrant entity that cannot
be tolerated in the Distant World.
A visitor that has flowed to this world
[narrator] He is the one who can stop even
the speed of bullets in his consciousness,
and possesses remarkable eyesight
and an enchanted sword.
The one who boasts the power of insight
to conquer impenetrable labyrinths alone.
The one who plunders
in moments of utmost crisis,
and possesses fingers
of absolute precision and divine speed.
He steals across
the boundaries of his own world
with a rampant disregard for the law.
[sword clinks]
[blood drippling]
[blood splats]
So, what will you do now,
Aureatia?
[narrator] He is a bandit. He is a minia.
He is Dakai the Magpie.
Ishura
The Twenty-Nine Officials of Aureatia
[clicks]
All troops, straighten up.
Look at me.
[wyverns groaning]
[Regnejee] I'll tell you right away.
We're here to sentence
one rotten individual to death.
You've probably heard about
the Lithia citizen who went missing today.
A minian child.
Nine years old. A little girl.
I suspect one of you
knows something about this.
[wyverns murmuring]
[wyvern 1] It's true!
It was Deputy Commander Lukwel
of the Southern Guerrilla Unit!
H-He ate a child!
I-I saw it myself.
It's true!
[tense music]
[surprised exclaim]
We receive more than enough food
in return
for protecting the citizens of Lithia.
That's the deal we have.
[scared mumbling]
[Regnejee]
Let me put it simply for you, fools.
Eating Lithia citizens,
and losing the trust of Taren the Guarded,
is a rotten, grave act of treason
that will starve our entire group!
Deputy Commander Lukwel
of the Southern Guerrilla Unit.
Do you have anything to say
in your defense?
[mumbling]
[wyvern 2]
I can't believe Lukwel would do that.
[wyverns murmuring]
[Regnejee] From Regnejee
to the wind of Lithia.
Reversing Mirror Disk.
String-tethered sun!
Illuminate!
[pained screaming]
Why me?
[Regnejee]
Did you think you could trick me?
You piece of trash!
[wyvern 1 grunting]
Look! See what happens
to fools who break the rules!
Any scum who eats Lithia citizens
will be sentenced to death! No exceptions!
Sentenced to death!
One year ago
This scum joined our ranks one year ago.
I didn't break him in hard enough.
All those who entered in the same period
will report for re-conditioning.
Nobody will break the rules again.
Never again!
[ominous music]
[Regnejee] I lead that swarm of trash.
I must be superior to any other wyvern.
I won't run away from the swarm.
[distant squawking]
[grunts]
[Regnejee] Those who are truly strong
lead others.
They take responsibility
for as many lives as they can.
[Curte] Today is sunny.
Regnejee left early in the morning
and still isn't back.
He seems especially busy lately.
- [Regnejee] What are you mumbling about?
- [gasps]
Regnejee?
Yeah, it's me.
Were you deployed today too?
I just got back
from chasing off some rotten outlaws.
I've not got time to mess around
every day like you.
I've been writing a diary.
I heard nobles who can write
make records in books like this every day.
[Curte] If I do the same, then I'll always
remember what we spoke about together.
[scoffs]
Don't say such daft things.
How do you plan to write if you can't see?
[giggles]
That's a challenge
I've been enjoying lately.
It's still bright outside, isn't it?
[wind gusting]
- Oh.
- Don't touch me.
[giggles]
I can't even catch you off guard, huh?
A small fry like you?
You couldn't ever touch me,
not even if you tried for a lifetime.
That might be true.
I'll have to think of another way.
Regnejee, do you like it here in Lithia?
What about you?
You can't even see it.
[Curte] I like it.
It's beautiful.
How silly.
I envy you.
[Curte giggles]
[Regnejee] Aren't you going to sing today?
[Curte] There are plenty of singers
who sing better than me.
I want to hear your song, Curte.
[Curte] Is that so?
[inhales]
[vocalizing]
[vocalizing continues]
[narrator]
Even now that everything is over,
there might not be any person, anywhere,
who fully understands
the identity of the True Demon King.
Who was the True Demon King?
What did that True Demon King
do to her hometown?
Curte never saw it for herself.
But she lost the light
after that indescribable terror.
Even so, one girl, and one wyvern,
didn't lose themselves to insanity.
Curte believes.
That the surreal song
she heard in the darkness
is what brought back their sanity.
[Curte vocalizing]
[Curte] Regnejee.
What's going to happen to Lithia?
What about you?
Do you plan to stay here in Lithia?
[Curte giggles]
Well, my mother is the monarch of Lithia.
People are going to die.
A war is about to begin.
It's true. I understand these things.
That may be,
but I can't leave you behind, Regnejee.
[scoffs]
If a war does break out, dullards like you
will be the first to die.
Yes, you're right.
Oh.
When will you give up, slowpoke?
Oh, come on,
what's wrong with a little touch?
- Gotcha!
- [grunts]
S-Stop you fool!
What if you trip and hurt yourself?
[laughing]
Can I sing again?
Sure. Knock yourself out.
[Curte] Regnejee, did you know?
When the world began, there was an angel.
The angel and the Wordmaker
created everything.
Do you believe that legend?
Yes. Angels like songs.
Word Arts came from songs.
If only you were an angel, Regnejee.
[Curte vocalizing]
[vocalizing continues]
[narrator] He is the one who rules over
a freely-flying force that rules
the vast skies of the world alone.
The one who commands
an absolutely obedient and fearless swarm,
as if they were a single living entity.
The one with sharp battlefield acumen
who has firmly rooted himself
in the core of a nation.
[soft music]
He is a Command. He is a wyvern.
He is Regnejee the Wings of Sunset.
[closing theme music]
Aureatia
Somewhere in the Suburbs
[soldier] That's the situation.
Move out as soon as you receive contact.
[transporter] Hang on a second.
This is a delivery assignment,
not a clean-up job.
[transporter] And I heard
the luggage is somewhat tricky.
Well, I'm sure it will work out.
After all, I have an angel with me.
