I can't believe
I dropped the royal map.
How are we supposed to find
the pearls of Neptune without it?
Well, since the sea monsters
grabbed it, we hunt them down.
They must have some kind of base or nest.
We find it
and we take the map back.
I can help with that.
If I can learn something
from our gooey friend here.

-[Tyler laughing]

We don't have time to play around.

Uh, guys, if we can
get back to the monster.
This thing is a toxic cocktail
of chemicals and weird organics,
but it's mostly plastic garbage.

A backpack, or what's left of it.

It's a flyer for our school's chess club.
Whoever lost this goes to our school.

in chess club.

These are the exchange students

going to this pirate school
is a waste of time.
[Sasha] Or it's going to be super fun.

-This place is crawling with pirates.

Merlinda, Sasha and Nerissa are now
officially enrolled as exchange students.
-[Fred chuckles]

How's the repair coming
on our communication bracelets?
[clears throat] Uh
Getting back to it, right now.
Oh, Fred is so Fred,
but he will fix them.

[Merlinda] This statue is beautiful.
-It makes me think of my mother.

I was just a baby when I lost her,
but I know the story by heart.
Mertropia was under attack.
[Merlinda] Everywhere you looked,
there were terrible monsters
sent by the pirate, Barbarossa.
They overwhelmed the city.
-[screaming]
-[monster roaring]
[screaming]
[roaring]
[grunting]
Ah!
[Merlinda] My mom and dad,
they fought back,
and with our elite guard
they defeated the attackers.
[groaning]
But my dad was hurt.
[groaning]
[crying]
And news came from General Orca.
Something was wrong with the portal.
It wouldn't close
and a second wave of Barbarossa's
monsters was on the way.
[groaning]
My mom knew what she had to do
to buy my father time
to get the portal closed.
She had to go out
and protect us all.
And so, with the general
and a few of our elite guard, she did.
[baby Merlinda crying]
I'm so sorry, Merlinda.
We know what it's like
to grow up without a mom too.
Huh?
Ours died when we were young.
That symbol, it looks so familiar.
It's the symbol of Mertropia.
My mother gave this to me
the night she disappeared.
[bell rings]
Argh!
An alarm! We're under attack.
No, first bell.
Time to get bored.

My topic is
the massive island of garbage
floating in the Pacific Ocean,
called the Pacific Gyre.

The plastic in the ocean
is killing sea life.
You all need to listen to Celia.

That's why the Mertropia symbol
looked so familiar.
You know, maybe it was a good thing
we went to that school full of pirates.

I can't wait to go back tomorrow.

to calculate the best spots
to look for your pearl beds.
