she has to get better as a singer.

so it was so new to me,

we're looking for
an exceptional vocal performance.
Because from there, we will select
some of the girls to work with Bart.

I'll be the girls' vocal producer.
Overall, anything vocal-related,
I'm involved with.
Bart is a multi-Grammy-winning
producer/engineer.
He's worked with everybody.
Selena Gomez, Katy Perry,
Camila Cabello, Charli XCX.
I've been in the studio
with Rihanna, Beyoncé.
We got our first original song
a couple days ago
that we're gonna start working on,
and I'm so excited to do that.
Um Well, I don't know if I'll get to,
'cause apparently, it's just some girls.
The recording studio is the one place
that I've been dreaming of
being in forever.
Some of the girls aren't ready
to be in the studios.
They're still working on
a lot of fundamentals.
And right now, we're just in the beginning
stages of narrowing down those girls
and seeing who's gonna rise to the top.
Emily is a really dope dancer.
It feels like you don't care ♪
Emily has to work on her ear,
'cause she can be pitchy.
To be pitchy means
that you wobble between sharp and flat.

is sunk a little bit.

you are really good
at walking on a balance beam.

I'm really nervous because
I don't have dance this evaluation,
because, obviously,
I fractured part of my foot.
So I can't dance this eval,
and I'm just really nervous
because all I have is my voice.

not my strongest suit.

the natural ability to sing.
So she's had to put in
an extreme amount of effort
in order to obtain the position
that she's in,
and, I think, how we view her.

I have performance anxiety.
It's like a physical reaction.
I can feel my heart beating faster,
and, like, suddenly,
I'm hyperaware of my senses.
I did ballet professionally
in Slovakia from the age of three.
Nobody is born being great at ballet.
It's something that's unnatural
to the body.
So you really have to mold your body,
and, like, the only way to do that
is starting it from a young age
and doing it a lot.
So the day-to-day anxiety
of training and stuff, I am okay with.
But the performance anxiety,
I'm still trying to find
my ways around it,
and I think the answer is
just to have more practice with it.
I'm trying to get used to
not really hearing myself when I sing it.

what is gonna happen to this project,
how it's gonna unfold at the end?
Like, we don't know those things.
That's the scariest part.
- This whole thing is very unpredictable.

We don't know anything.
At this point, we're just training.

We withhold information,
because with a project like this,
things can change.
So I would hate to tell the girls
one thing, and then it would change.
They are already going through so much.
It's better fed to them
in slow increments.
In a couple months,
everyone's gonna know who you are,
and you're gonna be on a huge platform.
But we need to focus
on one thing at a time.
When you push yourself,
when you challenge yourself,
does that encourage you?
Does it excite you? Does it propel you?
Everything. All of that.
I feel like
I was brought in because,
I think as the program evolved,
the stressors became harder,
more demanding.
And I think that they clearly recognized
there was a need
for increased mental health consultation.
What they felt confident in doing
before they started this program
is not gonna get them through
to the other side of this program.
And that dynamic
can negatively impact mental health.

when you have a lot of girls around you
and you just wanna be alone.

How is your mental health doing?
I feel like, um
Obviously, with my injury
and not dancing and everything,

So then your focus is your vocal
and then the injury.

I'm just worried about, like,
my participation here.
Like, if surgery would mean
that I cannot be here anymore,
um, that would be really sad.

of still, like, actually fixing it

but for me to still in some way
be part of this.

I mean, that would be a win-win, you know?
Before singing,
I can't drink coffee,
'cause coffee dries out your throat.
And then I can't use mouthwash
because it has a percentage of alcohol
that makes you phlegmy.
I can't drink milk.
I can't have anything fizzy
because it'll make me burp,
and it's hard to burp when you sing.
It's hard to sing when you burp!

Sophia's really special.
Her self-confidence is there,
but she builds herself up.
She takes care of herself.
Before I go to bed, it's a routine,
I'll write a letter to myself.
And then I always end it with a message
to say that I'm proud of myself
and that I love myself,
and I'm pretty and all that.
And how's your journey with dealing with
trying to get out of the musical theater
and shift more to pop music?
It's a little hard, obviously,
because my body
is used to over-enunciating sometimes
Yeah.
or making it super clear and clean
when you need more texture and raspiness
and stuff like that.
So I think I'm enjoying it
even though it's hard.
It's still a fun time.
Musical theater is something
that never fails to make me happy.
It just reminds me so much of home
because of my mom.
The winner for Best Featured Actress
in a Musical is Carla Guevara Laforteza.
My mother is a performing artist
from the Philippines.
I grew up watching her.
I saw two to three musicals every month,
and majority of the time,
she was the one starring in them.
There were times growing up
when people thought that I got
certain opportunities because of my mom.
And that's why my mom
was really proud of this
because this isn't exactly what she does,
but it's still in line with
what we both love, which is performing.
She's proud that I was able
to do this on my own.
I can really put my name on it,
and nobody can say that
anybody got it for me.
- I didn't tell them I auditioned.

I wasn't even planning to tell them
until I was gonna get an email
that I was gonna move here.

'Cause my mom did the same thing
when she was my age.
She did the musical Miss Saigon,
and auditioned
without telling her parents.
She told them when they were,
"You're going to London
to do Miss Saigon."

So I pulled the same thing
on my parents.

when there was a middle-ground key
you could've hit that I know you have.
Finding that control
and finding that middle ground
would've helped.
The rankings are a lot on all of us.
All of us sang different songs,
danced different routines,
had different hours of training.
Every time the rankings come out,
we all know what our scores are
because it's exposed to all of us,
so I feel like the ranks
bring out a lot of the competition.
This month, our top vocalists
was Iliya, Sophia, Karlee,
Adéla, Brooklyn, and Megan.
Our top three trainees
were Megan, Daniela, and Lexie.
Emily did not dance this month
due to injury.
At this time, there's no one
that T&D would recommend eliminating.
Megan was our first overall.
Megan scored first in visual performance,
second in dance,
tied for second in vocal,
and third in star quality.
I have the pleasure of being
with the girls when they're nailing it
and when they're not nailing it.
But what they do
on that one evaluation day
is all Bang knows of these girls.
Although I'm
a relatively proven executive producer,
I have no desire
to make decisions on my own.
I work with a brilliant team of people,
amazing producers and staff members.
I will take their feedback into account.
But if you're asking technically
who pushes the button at the end,

of trainees before voting?

At some point,
you have to stop training
and move on to the debut phase.
Trying to endlessly improve
the quality or the skill
is not how T&D should be done.
Honestly, I don't think I ever missed
the right timing
to move on to the next phase.
Because Bang
decided to move the debut up,
we need to hurry up and find
the rest of the girls.

I don't know if I could do it.

My mother is a performing artist
from the Philippines.
I grew up watching her.
I saw two to three musicals every month,
and majority of the time,
she was the one starring in them.

when people thought that I got

was really proud of this
because this isn't exactly what she does,
but it's still in line with
what we both love, which is performing.
She's proud that I was able
to do this on my own.

The rankings are a lot on all of us.

we all know what our scores are
because it's exposed to all of us,
so I feel like the ranks
bring out a lot of the competition.
This month, our top vocalists
was Iliya, Sophia, Karlee,
Adéla, Brooklyn, and Megan.
Our top three trainees
were Megan, Daniela, and Lexie.
Emily did not dance this month
due to injury.
At this time, there's no one
that T&D would recommend eliminating.
Megan was our first overall.
Megan scored first in visual performance,
second in dance,
tied for second in vocal,
and third in star quality.
I have the pleasure of being
with the girls when they're nailing it
and when they're not nailing it.

on that one evaluation day

I have no desire
