and we're doing
some blackberry picking.
Here at Boyd Mill Farm they're
kicking off the blackberry season
with a festival of music.
They say that music helps
prepare the berries for harvest.

- [Tom] Love it.
- Yeah, we love it. Love it.
It's like one of the prettiest
times of year too.
- Very lush, right?
- Yes. Yeah. How long have you guys lived here?
- About a year.
- Yep.
- [Christina] Wow. Okay.
- [Tom] Ready for remodel.
- [Tom] A redo.
- Which area are we starting in?
- [Tom] Love it.
- Yeah, we love it. Love it.
- Kitchen.
- It's a priority.
We found this house online.
Technically we bought it sight
unseen, we did have pictures.
But we didn't get to see it
in person until we moved in.
[Terese] The hardest part
about this move for me
was that we had built our dream kitchen
in the house in California that we left
was that we had built our dream kitchen
in the house in California that we left
and then we moved here.
Again, love this house, but it
didn't have a dream kitchen.
- So this is the kitchen.
- It's a pretty big space.
- [Terese] It's big, it's just no very functional.
- Okay.
- [Terese] The flow is all wrong.
- Yep.
I'm constantly There's a lot
of footsteps going back and forth
between the sink,
and the stove, and the fridge.
So you can't really
prepare food over there.
You have to prepare it here,
which is not big.
- And then you have to traipse it across the kitchen.
- And is this your only oven?
- It's our only oven, yeah.
- [Tom chuckles]
- It's our only oven, yeah.
- [Tom chuckles]
[Christina] And you guys
like to cook?
- I'm a cook and a baker.
- And a baker.
And this is what
you have to work with?
And that's
what I'm working with.
- Oh, yeah, no.
- That's why you're here.
- Yeah, that's not good.
- [Terese] Yeah.
One of the main issues is that
these two rooms are not joined at all.
I'm in here cooking and I can't
even see who's in the family room.
I just feel very isolated,
there's no flow.
Anything else
that's not working?
Well, I know you
don't like this space.
- Go ahead.
- Which is totally awkward.
So right now this where we
kinda try to eat,
but we never can actually
do it successfully
- At this peninsula?
- because this island is just not very functional.
- At this peninsula?
- because this island is just not very functional.
And I have really large
family members, tall, 6'3".
For me, I don't even think
I could eat like this.
It might work for him, but
No. It looks very awkward.
Imagine if there's a plate in front of
you, it'd almost be, like, up to your chin.
If I get the plate right
on the corner, just right,
- or you do like a TV tray like the '70s.
- Oh, no!
And then I just
turn the TV this way.
Okay, we can't have a TV tray
in this kitchen every again.
Right. I feel like I'm in
On a time out.
So this just doesn't work out.
So this just doesn't work out.
Okay. No, I agree,
that's gotta go.
Okay. Style wise,
what are your guys styles?
So I'm a little bit eclectic,
- meaning I like a bunch of styles.
- Okay.
- Predominately traditional.
- Okay.
But I do like to layer in
a little bit of farmhouse,
- little bit of Scandinavian.
- Oh, cool.
Little bit of that California,
Santa Barbara type style.
I'm like you. I have, like,
16 styles. What about you?
I like country.
Kinda farmhouse still.
I think granite styles
are out. Is it quartz now?
I think granite styles
are out. Is it quartz now?
- And, uh, soft close cabinets.
- Ooh, gosh. Yes.
- I do not like the hard close cabinets either.
- That doesn't work.
Well, you guys
have the square footage.
This is actually
a very large kitchen
and that is a very large
living area.
They're just totally separated and you're
right it's just not a good flow for a family.
[Terese] No, not at all.
Well, the less walls the
better as far as I'm concerned.
Like, 100% open concept.
You know, white, light, bright.
So if you could
have your dream kitchen,
what exactly would you
guys want in it?
Here's our, uh Don't bump
into our fake island here.
- Oh, you've created this?
- [Tom] Yes.
- Oh, you've created this?
- [Tom] Yes.
- So that's ideally
- [Terese] Yes.
So it would go this way.
So that I could
- While she's in there talking, baking, I can see the TV set.
- Oh, okay.
- So this is your pretend island, I like it.
- [Terese] Yeah.
And then you wanna see your
TV which is, oh, way over here.
If you look
through the pillars
- you can kinda see a quarter of the TV.
- Okay, Yeah.
But all that goes away.
- Yeah, that's kinda sad. Okay, so.
- [Terese] Yeah.
Okay, what else?
I'd love to have that, um,
the cooks triangle, you know?
Where you have the stove, and the sink, and
the fridge all within a very small space.
Where you have the stove, and the sink, and
the fridge all within a very small space.
- It just makes everything very efficient.
- Totally. Cooks triangle.
I'm not a super good cook,
but I don't like wandering all
around the kitchen to find anything.
Yeah, I feel like
I'm always getting lost.
Like, was I going to the
fridge? Was I going to the stove?
- I feel ya.
- Yeah.
What are we
looking at budget wise?
- Ninety-five-ish would be great, $95,000.
- Okay.
All right, we can
definitely make that work.
Okay,
here's what I'm thinking.
So I heard what you guys said
as far as opening everything up.
I would love to get rid of
these pillars, and this archway,
I would love to get rid of
these pillars, and this archway,
and take this all the way
up to the ceiling,
and really open up
the kitchen.
Carry the kitchen and open it
all the way past the refrigerator.
- [Tom] Love it.
- [Christina] Wide open.
- [Terese] Yes.
- [Tom] Great.
- [Christina] Do a very large island facing the television.
- [Terese] Yes.
- [Christina] We are gonna get rid of this peninsula.
- [Terese] Yep.
[Christina] On this back wall
right here,
- we can have a large slide in range
- [Terese] Mmm-hmm.
with a hood and uppers
and lowers on each side.
- [Terese] Yes.
- [Tom] Beautiful.
[Christina] On this wall, where
you currently have your small oven,
[Christina] On this wall, where
you currently have your small oven,
I'd love to do a refrigerator.
[Terese] Perfect.
[Christina] And then on this wall, where
you have this kind of awkward shape
- ideally I would love to square this off.
- [Terese] Yes.
[Christina] And then a floor to
ceiling cabinetry over here for storage.
- [Terese] Great, I love it.
- And I think also with your budget
we definitely have room to also
open up this archway by the front door
and get rid
of the pillars as well.
- So we can match the spaces?
- Yes.
- Perfect.
- Good.
And also, cooks triangle, we
will have a nice sink in the island.
That way now you can have
oven, sink, refrigerator all right here.
- Yes, I love it.
- Okay.
So, while you have me, is there anything
else you guys were looking to do?
Our primary bathroom is a
little lackluster, to say the least.
So we wanna do that too.
- All right, let's go check it out.
- Okay, great. This way.
[Christina] This is a very
awkward layout.
- Then we've got this closet in the corner over here.
- Tom, where's your stuff?
- Upstairs. I don't get a closet.
- He doesn't have stuff.
- I haven't earned that yet.
- He doesn't get a closet.
You got totally kicked out.
- Yeah, exactly.
- Totally kicked out.
[Christina] Okay. Yeah, I feel
like the angles are very odd.
[Christina] Okay. Yeah, I feel
like the angles are very odd.
It's like hodgepodge.
- It's like they just threw things in random corners.
- [Terese] Completely.
[Christina] And this shower,
it's just, again, odd.
It feels like
it's a little creepy.
- It's like tucked back in there.
- [Terese] It's creepy.
- [Christina] Tom, do you actually use the shower?
- Uh
- He can barely get in there.
- It opens up a little bit, but it is
- You have to go in sideways?
- I do.
- [all laughing]
- [Christina] Oh, no.
Yeah, that's not working.
- [Tom] Yeah, it's very confining.
- No.
It really is.
[Terese] We have two windows
and neither one of them open.
What'd you mean? They're
broken or they just aren't meant to?
What'd you mean? They're
broken or they just aren't meant to?
- There's not meant to open.
- [Tom] They don't open.
Like, are they just for light?
- Yep, they're just for looks.
- Oh.
Okay. What are we looking
to spend here?
-Probably $35,000 at
least. I think we -Yeah.
You know, I'd like to We're gonna
have to do some damage in here.
I'd love to get
a bigger closet.
I don't even know
if that's possible.
Even if I could get a foot.
Definitely need a contractor to
walk this one to come up with a figure.
- As far as budget.
- [Terese] Yeah.
But what I'm thinking
just initially
is, like, if we got rid of
the shower from this side
and we really extended
this closet this way.
and we really extended
this closet this way.
Flipped the shower
into this corner,
did a really nice
walk-in shower over here.
- [Terese] Okay.
- [Christina] Fix the windows so they open.
And then figure out a different
spot for the water closet.
And then we could
still have a double vanity,
I think that could look
really nice.
Are you guys ready though?
Do you guys wanna get started?
- Yeah.
- Let's do it.
- All right. I can't wait.
- [Terese] Awesome.
[Josh] So I have some good and
bad news to deliver to them today.
You contractors always have bad news.
Like, I would hate to have your job.
You contractors always have bad news.
Like, I would hate to have your job.
I get to just delivery
good news and designs.
You guys got to, like,
you know,
yeah, sorry guys,
you have to spend more money.
Knock-knock.
- Hey, guys.
- [Terese] Hey, there.
- [Josh] How are ya?
- Nice to see you.
- Good to see you.
- [Christina] Hi.
[Terese] Hi, nice to see you.
- [Christina] How are y'all?
- I'm good, thanks.
Uh, I love that you guys still
have your blue tapped island.
[Tom] Oh, I stepped
over it by mistake.
[Terese] It's good
to have goals.
- I love it, that's awesome.
- [Terese] There is it.
We have good and bad news.
We have good and bad news.
- What do you want first?
- Good, always.
All right, we can
do your kitchen
- [Tom] Awesome.
- [Terese] Okay.
- on budget.
- [Terese] Okay.
[Christina] That's great news.
- Uh, the bad news is
- Oh, jeez.
- We can do your kitchen
- Awesome.
- [Terese] Okay.
- on budget.
- [Terese] Okay.
- [Christina] That's great news.
- Uh, the bad news is
- Oh, jeez.
You're bathroom we
Because of what we wanna do
and move some things around,
we gotta go through
the septic department.
- [sighs] - And that's
through the county.
And we're out in the country,
that makes it tough.
So that's gonna take, uh,
potentially 6 to 8 months.
[Christina] Wait,
what's happening?
We have to go
through a septic.
Yep, They're not
on city sewer.
They literally have a tank
in their backyard.
They literally have a tank
in their backyard.
- And that's where all their waste goes to.
- Where's the tank?
- [Josh] Underground.
- How big is it?
Uh, big enough to handle
a three-bedroom house.
- [Tom] So what do we do?
- We gotta get a soil scientist out here.
- Didn't know that was a thing.
- Is it.
Doing jobs in Tennessee
can be a bit different,
you have to worry about things
like soil scientist and septic tanks.
But I leave all that stuff
to the contractor.
There's a big wait list
right now through the county.
It's a process for approval.
And there's no way
around it? Okay.
And there's no way
around it? Okay.
[Josh] So do you wanna wait 6
to 8 months to do both projects,
or do you wanna go ahead
and do the kitchen?
And get started
on that and then
Now. We need to start
now on the kitchen.
- I need my kitchen.
- Okay.
- I need our kitchen.
- [Christina chuckles]
- When can you start?
- Next week.
- Yes! Great, awesome.
- Let's do it.
- [Josh] Great.
- [Christina] Okay.
So we could always
do the kitchen first
- and then phase 2, we can do the bathroom.
- [Terese] Okay.
- [Tom] Understood.
- Okay.
- If you guys decide you still want guests.
- Good to have goals.
I really want that bathroom, but
the kitchen is the most important.
Kitchen is the heart
of the family. Yeah, for sure.
Kitchen is the heart
of the family. Yeah, for sure.
- All right, well, you guys ready?
- Yes!
- Love it.
- We're in.
- [Josh] All right.
- Let's do it.
- Yay, can't wait.
- [Tom] Awesome.
Good news, I have a great idea
for the blackberries.
My favorite, smoothies.
My favorite, smoothies.
Ready? Who wants to do what?
- I'll do the blackberries then.
- I wanna do this.
Okay, you have to unpeel
them then.
All right, pour 'em in.
- [Hudson] Yeah.
- Ohh, a whole banana.
Okay. All right. Hmm.
I've never used this.
This needs to go down. Like, right?
Doesn't this need to do something?
My first time
using this blender.
- [Taylor] Yeah.
- See what happens. All right, you guys ready?
Uh, I'm scared.
I'm gonna go behind.
I don't think it's gonna work
unless this goes down.
See? No, wait, it was on.
- We can't
- [all laughing]
What are you wearing?
- [Taylor] What is that?
- [Braydon] What is that?
- Dad, that is not okay.
- [Braydon] What is that?
It's functional clothing, this
is what work clothes look like.
[Taylor] That is not a style.
You're all getting a pair.
[Taylor & Braydon] No, no.
Complete with work gloves,
we got chores to do.
- James Bender approved this.
- No, he didn't.
- Yes, he did.
- No, he didn't.
All right, I'm not gonna argue
anymore, let's make some smoothies.
All right, I'm not gonna argue
anymore, let's make some smoothies.
We can't close the lid.
That's not simple at all.
It's not simple?
What if I do it in 2 seconds?
How'd you do that?
[Braydon] Oh, my gosh, Dad.
Let's see if it works now.
What'd you mean "if it works"?
Taylor, I can't believe
you left the spinach out.
- I hid it from you.
- [Josh] I don't mind.
[Taylor] It's good
without the spinach.
This is the fresh
blackberries.
[Braydon] It's good without
the spinach probably.
Cheers.
- Cheers, spinach.
- Mmm.
- Cheers, spinach.
- Mmm.
That's delicious.
All right. You gonna go put on
your overalls and go help Josh?
[Josh] There's blackberries
have a lot of seeds.
- Yeah.
- Let's go, come this way.
- Let's go to work.
- After I eat all of the spinach.
Oh, you probably need all the
spinach if you're working with me.
[Christina] While JB and his team
keep the project moving forward
I'm gonna meet with Terese and
Tom to go over kitchen materials.
Hello?
- Purple, right?
- [Tom] Yep.
Hi.
[Terese] So Hi, there!
[Terese] So Hi, there!
Wow! A real construction zone.
[Terese] I cleaned for you.
Oh, my gosh.
Oh, no. How are you doing
without your kitchen?
I'm just so excited
to get a nice kitchen.
I don't care, it's fine.
It'll all be fine.
What are you
doing for cooking?
- Barbecuing.
- Oh.
- Oh.
- [Terese] Yeah.
- You like my new island?
- I do, it's looking good.
And my light design?
Oh, there we go.
- We're in a full on construction zone.
- [Terese] Yeah.
- Okay. Well, today's a fun day.
- I know, I'm so excited.
- Okay. So mind if I setup here on your kitchen?
- [Terese] Sure.
- Okay. So mind if I setup here on your kitchen?
- [Terese] Sure.
- Just don't mind the plastic.
- Your dining table.
- Okay.
- [Terese] Yeah.
Okay, so we have some
beautiful materials today.
- [Terese] So excited.
- Okay, so we have that
transitional kind of farmhouse
vibe with a little pop of color.
- So let's start with the fun part, backsplash.
- Mmm.
[Christina] First option,
- kinda like geometric a little bit.
- Yeah.
- Two-toned.
- Subtle blue, yep.
- We have this one.
- Ooh.
[Christina] It's really
pretty as well.
- That arabesque.
- That's really pretty.
It's a little bit
more ornate [gasps]
It's a little bit
more ornate [gasps]
- Oh, this one's calling to you.
- Ohhh. Oh, my gosh.
- Door number three?
- Okay, this one's your favorite.
This has, like,
a diamond in it.
[Terese] And they're all
so different,
but what I like about all of
them is they all have dimension.
- [Christina] Yes.
- And they'll go with that transitional
farmhouse set
we're going for.
- [Tom] Great colors here.
- I know.
My initial reaction
Look, because it's got the
blue, and the grey, and the white.
[Christina]
It's really pretty.
So it'll tie
everything together.
- Subtle pop of color.
- [Terese] Yeah.
- What'd you think?
- I'm in to it.
- Yes! He likes it.
- All right, cabinet color.
- Yes! He likes it.
- All right, cabinet color.
So I was thinking white perimeter,
keep it light and bright in here.
- [Terese] Okay.
- And then a pop of color with the island.
- [Terese] Ohhh.
- Go darker or lighter.
Okay, so I love
all the blues and greys.
So this is in
and then one of these.
[Christina] Yes. So this'll
be everything but the island,
and then the island
would be the pop.
- To get that pop of color?
- Yes.
'Cause I don't want it to be
too institutional looking.
- Exactly.
- So I need that pop, okay.
- I like the way that ties in.
- [Christina] Perfect.
- [Terese] Let's do that one.
- Okay.
So then we have
counter choices
- for the island and the perimeter.
- Mmm.
- for the island and the perimeter.
- Mmm.
[Christina] This one has, like, almost
like a little bit of a concrete vibe
and this one's softer,
marbling.
They're both quartz, so
really durable, cooking-friendly.
[Terese] I like this one.
- Did you wanna say?
- What she said.
- I like this one because the veins here
- [Christina] Yep.
- Really pretty.
- tie in with everything.
No matter which one I pick
it ties in with everything.
This is a little darker,
not that it's dull.
- But I just think this is bright.
- [Terese] Yeah.
[Tom] And that's what
we're going for
- I mean, as far as light and bright.
- Agreed.
[Christina] This one
never goes out of style.
[Christina] This one
never goes out of style.
- Okay, so last choice in here, pull handles.
- [Terese] Okay.
I feel like this one has more
of like a country chic vibe.
And this one's
a little more industrial.
[Terese] This one looks like
a mailbox to me.
- Yeah.
- I like that one.
I like the country chic one.
- It does kinda look
- [Terese chuckles] A long mailbox.
- I like a little bit of character like that.
- I do too, it's beautiful.
[Terese] Oh, that looks
so good together.
Okay, so we're gonna use
this one as a pop of color
- somewhere else.
- Let's figure that out.
- Okay.
- Let's do that.
- All the cabinets.
- [Terese] Yep.
- Except the island which'll be in this beautiful color.
- [Terese] Yes.
- And then we have the counters.
- [Terese] Yes.
- And then we have the counters.
- [Terese] Yes.
- This amazing backsplash.
- Love it, love it.
- And the pull handles.
- [Terese] Yes.
Okay, so I do have one more
dilemma I wanna run by you.
- Okay, so I do have one more dilemma I wanna run by you.
- Okay.
- The floors.
- Mmm-hmm.
So as you noticed, we
have to sort of redo the floors
- 'cause we're replacing wood.
- Right.
I don't know if I wanna
stick with the dark color.
I have to do
the whole bottom floor,
- but the stairs are dark.
- [Christina] Right.
I was kind of hoping you would
say this because I feel like
I mean, one of your main
concerns was feeling dark,
you wanna
feel light and bright.
You wanna have that feel like
you had in your previous house.
You wanna have that feel like
you had in your previous house.
So I think lightening the floors
will dramatically give you that,
everything you want.
It'll be a huge difference.
And your stairs,
they're not a terrible color,
it's like a nice blend
of the light and dark.
And if later you decide,
look, I love this new color
downstairs you can always change it.
- Okay, okay.
- [Tom] Good.
No one's gonna walk
in and be like
Especially 'cause you
have the carpet runner.
- [Tom] Yeah.
- Right.
And I don't wanna take out
the carpet runner 'cause I love it.
So that's design faux pas
to have the two?
- No, it happens all the time, just so you know.
- Okay, great.
Especially in remodeling
Especially in remodeling
when you're doing the
downstairs first, it's just
We don't wanna go with this
- and still have an old school feel.
- Right.
- You know, we wanna upgrade
- Everything.
we want everything
to be upgraded the same.
And if there's a transition upstairs it's
a totally separate part of the house.
Right. So it happens
to be that
I'm just gonna show you this.
That like this right here
- is flooring basically stripped, okay.
- [Terese] Okay.
And look how much just prettier
even the backsplash looks next to that.
[Tom] Even in
a natural state.
- Oh, that looks so light and bright, yeah.
- [Christina] Right?
- Oh, that looks so light and bright, yeah.
- [Christina] Right?
That looks phenomenal, yeah.
- [Christina] Just looks new, fresh.
- Yeah. Totally, fresh.
It really pops
and I like that pop.
I feel like what we can do is we can
strip some areas of the existing flooring,
- we can have JB do some samples.
- [Terese] Okay.
- Like, maybe four?
- [Terese] Okay, perfect.
And one being just natural
- and then a few other tones, different light tones.
- Okay.
And then we can pick one.
- Love that.
- Perfect.
- Oh, I can't wait.
- Okay, so anything else.
- The lights.
- Okay.
- So
- Oh, you have 'em already?
- So
- Oh, you have 'em already?
- We have lights. Should we do that today?
- Yeah.
- Show me.
- They showed up today.
Let me go grab that.
Let me go grab the light.
- We can talk that out.
- Are we talking about the lights above the island?
- [Terese] Yeah.
- Oh, cool.
It's unusual for clients
to get really excited
and go out and buy things on their
own without consulting the team.
[Terese] Isn't that beautiful?
[Tom] This is what we had
in our old house.
- [Christina scoffs]
- [Terese] Exactly.
I had them above the kitchen
island, I love the pendants.
And we're gonna do pendants
over the island.
How many did you
have at your old house?
- [Terese] Three.
- Okay.
I get your dilemma.
The island's the same size,
- but the kitchen's a different layout.
- Yes.
- but the kitchen's a different layout.
- Yes.
Aww, so pretty.
- [Terese] I love 'em.
- Yep, me too.
Sometimes it doesn't work out,
but in this case, it did.
I love the lights,
they're super pretty.
[Terese] But I don't know,
two or three?
- I think two.
- You think two?
Yeah, just based on the shape
and, like, where this wall settles.
I think three
will feel a little busy
- It would be too much.
- Yeah.
- Okay, awesome. So we got a lot done today.
- [Terese] Yes.
We are gonna make a decision
on flooring,
- we'll get you some samples.
- Okay.
We'll get this ordered,
you already have the lights.
And then we'll
be moving forward.
And then we'll
be moving forward.
Awesome. And look
at this opening space.
- So much better.
- That's exactly what I wanted, I know.
The flow is so much better.
- Yes, it's much better.
- Yeah.
- Totally gonna look amazing.
- Yeah.
- It'll be done before you know it.
- Awesome, I can't wait.
- Love it.
- Are you good, Tom?
- Perfect.
- As long as you have your TV?
Well, look. I mean, you can see through
the cellophane how good it's gonna be.
Okay. I figured you're happy.
All right, let's do it.
- All right, guys, big decision today.
- [Terese] Okay.
We're talking about the flooring
throughout the entire downstairs.
Yep, yep.
Okay,
so it's beautiful flooring,
we just wanna pick a stain that's
gonna compliment the staircase.
We are gonna
keep the stairs, right?
- Yes, I wanna keep the stairs.
- Okay.
So JB brought
some stain samples.
And now, we just need
to narrow it down
and pick a stain color
that you guys like.
Okay. That won't clash, okay.
So we have different choices that kind of range
from light, medium, and more of a natural.
- This is the lightest.
- [Terese] Okay.
- This is the lightest.
- [Terese] Okay.
This is the darkest.
You have a whitewash.
And then you have
the most natural color.
Okay, so if I kinda want something
to go with the stairs and not clash,
and be a little bit
of farmhouse-y,
can we start eliminating like
which ones will not achieve that?
Let's take 'em out.
I would say these two
are my favorite.
-[Terese] Okay -Think these
two definitely do not clash.
- [Terese] I love those.
- They're definitely gonna give you
that like light, bright,
farmhouse look that you want.
Yeah, I love both of them.
What I like about this one is I feel like
the grain pops a little bit more in that,
What I like about this one is I feel like
the grain pops a little bit more in that,
do you think that'll contrast
in a good way or a bad way
with the stairs?
I think it will compliment it
very nicely.
Awesome. What'd you think?
What'd you think?
- We like it.
- [all laughing]
- [Josh] There ya go.
- That's the one.
Final answer.
I like it. So if you agree
to it, I think that's the one.
- [Christina] I love it.
- Okay.
- Awesome, great.
- [Josh] Great.
Well, we'll get started
on the floors
- and once that's done we'll start putting in cabinets.
- Cool.
[Christina] We're back in California,
checking in on some clients,
and while we're here, it's
time for a family bake-off.
and while we're here, it's
time for a family bake-off.
This is team
chocolate-chip cookies.
- Mom's pumpkin bread recipe.
- Oh, I hate pumpkin bread.
Brayden, come to the
man's side. We got this.
Terese has definitely inspired me
with her love of cooking and baking.
[Josh] I have no
baking experience at all,
but I know how to follow
instructions pretty well.
I'm gonna keep it
totally real.
I have, like, a baking curse.
Every time I try to bake something
- It turns out horrible.
- it turns out horrible.
This right here is Mom's OG
pumpkin bread recipe.
We're gonna follow it.
Oh, guess what? I'm doing the
vanilla. Do you wanna help me?
[Josh] No, he's on my team.
Stop.
[Josh] No, he's on my team.
Stop.
- Anyway. So, this is vegetable oil.
- Ew. Vegetable.
[Christina] Keep stirring.
Oh, Brayden. We're gonna storm
past them. Don't worry about it.
- Ready?
- All right.
I think the butter is melted.
- Boom.
- It looks so good.
So, we're doing
a client's house.
- Have you ever heard of a chef's triangle?
- No.
It's basically where you have a kitchen
where, like, everything's in a triangle
so it's easy to access.
We do not have that. We have
an upside down rectangle.
Dude, that looks
a little gross.
[Josh] It's pumpkin.
[Josh] It's pumpkin.
Now we Okay.
[Josh] Are they
googling recipes?
You did! It's your mom's!
This is Kristen's.
My mom's not on the Google.
Kristen texted me this recipe. She said
it's the best chocolate-chip cookies ever.
- No, we're on the paper.
- Well, Brayden, we kept it in the family.
- Oh.
- [laughs]
- Can we make it go a little faster?
- We can.
Wow. Super speedy.
Careful. You're gonna
elbow me in the face.
- Hey, the mixer's so much easier.
- [Christina] You think?
[Brayden laughs]
You guys got
the electric mixer.
Do you know what a
disadvantage this puts us at?
Well, there was one.
Somebody had to take it.
You snooze, you lose.
We got it.
"Here's the secret. Let
the dough sit for 24 hours."
- We don't have time for that.
- [Josh] So, now
It says, "I know it's agony, but the longer
the dough sits, the more flavor it takes on.
Seriously, it matters. You can tell the
difference in 12 hours versus 48 hours."
[Josh] Well, I guess you guys
will be starving tonight.
We'll be munching down
on some bread.
I'm not even sure why the girls
tried to bake against Brayden and I
because we've got this
in the bag.
because we've got this
in the bag.
Hey, how about you guys just go to the
grocery store and make it way easier?
- Because we're
- [Josh laughs]
[Brayden] So bad.
[Christina] Why don't you
go to the grocery store
and make your pumpkin bread
easier? Just buy a loaf.
Actually, they don't have this
kind of bread at the grocery store
- [Taylor] Yeah, because it's not good enough.
- because it's so good.
- No, 'cause it's so good.
- No, 'cause it's not good enough.
Rule number one in baking:
follow the instructions.
Someone else has already
figured it out.
Tay, you accidentally bumped this
with your knee and turned off the oven.
- [Taylor] When?
- [Christina] I don't know.
[Josh] Sabotage.
[Josh] Sabotage.
Okay. So, we accidentally
turned off this oven for a second.
- [phone alarm rings]
- Well, there's my timer.
- [Christina] Okay, so
- So, what you're saying is it's not ready.
We're definitely at a
disadvantage on this side because
- [softly] "Disadvantage."
- [Christina] the oven is turning off
You guys have a mixer.
You're so worried
about this mixer.
- Well, yeah, 'cause it makes a big difference.
- Okay. Anyways.
Maybe I should have read
the instructions on this recipe
before starting this project.
Might have to
throw in the towel.
Let's just go get ice cream.
[laughs]
You have no confidence
in our bread?
[laughs]
[Christina] While J.B.'s team
preps to refinish the floors,
I'm gonna meet
with Terese and Tom
to go over paint options
for the shiplap.
So, I kind of feel like
when I first came here,
- I didn't even notice there was shiplap here.
- [Terese] Yeah.
Because your eye's just
kind of drawn to outside,
so I think it'd be really nice to
make it pop with a really pretty color.
[Terese] Yes.
- So there's two options.
- Okay.
One is a bluish-gray,
on the lighter side.
One is a bluish-gray,
on the lighter side.
It sort of looks like the
color of your sofa from here.
[Terese] Okay.
And then we have
the darker blue
with a little more
of a gray undertone.
Okay.
- Okay.
- Nice.
And then we're painting
these walls lighter,
so paint's
a very tricky thing.
- Yeah.
- Because it looks different in every light
and also looks different when
it's presented next to other colors.
- Yeah.
- So imagine these walls are a bit lighter.
- Yeah.
- And then you can even step back and take a look.
I'm kind of naturally drawn
to the lighter color
- because it goes with the palette.
- Mmm-hmm.
- But this just pulls me in. The impact of it.
- Yeah.
- I don't know.
- It's more bold.
- Yeah. Makes a statement. I like it.
- Tom?
I'm leaning
towards the darker.
I think it gives it
a little more of a contrast.
I agree. I mean, naturally, you guys have
a similar color throughout the house.
- Yeah.
- So I think to add a bold element,
it makes sense
to go with the darker.
I also think
it's really pretty.
And you have such a beautiful
yard out there,
and I feel like this one really
draws your eye to outside, too,
and it kind of makes the house
feel bigger and more open.
Yeah. I agree.
I think it'll frame it.
I think it's very powerful.
I like it.
Okay. Perfect.
We're two weeks away from
finishing up Terese and Tom's house.
Countertops and backsplash
are going in,
so I'm headed there
to check on the progress.
Check out
this beautiful kitchen.
Oh, this island.
- Wow.
- Look! It's so big!
- Oh, my.
- I love it!
- I love - And the
floors came out so great.
- [Christina] Good decision.
- [Tom] Yep.
- [Christina] Good decision.
- [Tom] Yep.
[Terese] It really has
that farmhouse feel.
Totally modern farmhouse
vibes in here,
which is something
we should talk about.
- Yeah.
- Because as far as furniture and decor
- [Terese] Yeah.
- is that the angle you're thinking?
Yeah. So, I got my love
of cooking from my mom.
She was an antique dealer, and I
used to go to flea markets with her
- when I was little, and she was an awesome cook.
- [Christina] Aw, fun.
So when I'm in the kitchen,
I sort of channel her.
Like, she tells me, "Oh, no, that's
too much salt. Oh, add that spice."
But this is so new and bright
and shiny.
I'm struggling with how do I
add a little piece of my mom?
I'm struggling with how do I
add a little piece of my mom?
Is there an antique element
that I can bring in
that goes with the farmhouse and
this modern, beautiful new kitchen?
For sure. And I think the
best part is, being in Franklin,
- downtown Franklin has the cutest antique shops.
- [Tom] Mmm-hmm.
- Okay.
- They do.
And my design partner,
James, is the best shopper,
- and he's super good with antiques
- [Terese] Great.
so him and I will go
shopping, and we'll look around,
and we'll find something.
- Is there any, like,
phrases - I'd love that.
Any phrases you like or any
colors that you're thinking?
Maybe something above the
window right here in the dining room.
Maybe something above the
window right here in the dining room.
I've often thought that would be a
great space for, like, a vintage sign
like a bakery, but it's really
gotta be vintage.
- Nothing from, like, a mainstream store, right?
- No.
- Like, it really has to have that true vintage feel.
- Yeah.
And I don't know
what it could say.
- It doesn't really matter what it says.
- Okay.
It's just that energy
that it gives off.
- Like, that old tradition.
- [Christina] I love that.
It makes it feel, like,
very homey, too.
- [Terese] It does. It does.
- Okay. Okay.
Cool. I'm excited.
That's gonna be fun.
All right. We're about
two weeks out.
Not bad. Okay.
- Not bad at all.
- [Terese] Okay.
- We just have some backsplash to finish up.
- [Terese] Okay.
- We just have some backsplash to finish up.
- [Terese] Okay.
We have the appliances
to go in.
A few cabinets. We're
gonna paint the back wall.
But we're getting
really close.
- Okay.
- Next time we see each other, its gonna look amazing.
I can't wait,
and then I can cook.
Exactly.
Every time that James
comes into town,
we love to take him
on an experience.
So we are taking him
to Party Fowl,
- which is hot chicken.
- I love hot chicken.
- which is hot chicken.
- I love hot chicken.
Like, how hot
is the chicken gonna be?
[Josh] Well, it's not hot,
temperature, it's hot, spicy, also.
- I know.
- I didn't know if you knew.
- Spicy chicken.
- Yes. You know I love spicy.
- I don't. Do you think James is gonna like spicy?
- No way.
He can't even handle sushi.
James is the pickiest eater on the
planet, so it's gonna be interesting.
Are you ready for this week?
- Oh, I'm ready.
- I'm excited.
- We have a lot to do, though.
- Yes.
Terese, she's super
into cooking. You know that.
So she wants to have something in
the house that reminds her of her mom.
So she wants to have something in
the house that reminds her of her mom.
Her mom
was an antique shopper.
- So maybe we can find, like, a really cool antique store
- [James] Yeah.
and find, like,
a vintage sign.
Maybe something like
'the coop', but not 'the coop'.
- [James] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- Okay.
So, maybe tomorrow
we hit up some antique shops.
Oh, absolutely.
That'll be fun.
- Cool.
- I love antique shops.
- I'm excited.
- [Josh] You're going on a date with my wife again?
- Always.
- [Josh chuckles]
- Ooh.
- [waiter] Half bird right here.
- Oh, that's me. Thank you.
- What in the heck?
- What do you mean?
- [waiter] Got the chicken and beignets.
- Oh, that's me. Thank you.
- Wow. [laughs]
- Cobb salad.
- Thank you. Thank you.
Of course you found a salad
at a hot chicken place.
Of course you found a salad
at a hot chicken place.
- Guys. I like what I like.
- You know what?
[Josh] So, mine says,
'Nashville Hot',
which, 'Nashville Hot' on here
is 600,000 Scoville.
What does that mean,
"Scoville"?
- [Josh] I don't know.
- [James] It's a heat scale.
[Christina] Two million?
Is that like?
2.2 million is the hot one.
Is the Poultrygeist.
- [laughs] - [Josh] So,
James, we're in Nashville,
and Nashville hot chicken's
a thing.
- So
- [James] Well, I'm finding out.
That's fine, but remember.
You're here with us now.
- Yeah, I know.
- [Josh] You gotta do
Josh.
You're in Nashville.
When in Rome
Josh wants to turn everything
into a competition,
and quite frankly, I am not
interested in playing this game.
[Josh] Listen. There's a scale.
You can start at the bottom.
There's so many things that we
can do in Rome but eat hot chicken.
- You're eating that with ease.
- I
The food's great, but the
spicy level? It's nothing.
- And that's at 600,000.
- Let's bring out Poultrygeist.
- Yeah, let's
- Bring on the two million.
Here we go, y'all.
[Christina] Okay.
Go for the Poultrygeist.
- All right. I'm super excited for this.
- All right. Sure.
It's not done yet.
It's gonna kick.
Let me try a teeny tiny
I wanna see if it's hot.
[James] Just lick it.
- You just
- [gasps]
- Oh, come on.
- Oh, yeah. It's hot. What's wrong with you?
- That is so hot. You're crazy. My tongue is still burning.
- [James] I know.
Oh, my God.
What is wrong with you?
- [James] I'm the only sane
- Do you not have tastebuds?
[Josh chuckles]
- I'm the only sane person here at the table.
- [Christina sighs]
Spicy chicken
is the least of my worries.
I'm not afraid of anything.
I've handled a lot worse.
He thinks he's winning,
but is he really?
He thinks he's winning,
but is he really?
I've literally eaten habanero
peppers whole like they were candy.
I'm waiting for the smoke
to come out of his ears.
You want some milk?
- I just had some. It's not doing anything.
- Ah!
- [James laughs] - I think
I'm losing my motor skills.
- [Christina laughs]
- [coughs]
[clears throat]
It's a natural reaction.
You're, like, going very red.
[laughs] Look at his eyes.
- [laughs]
- [James] He's crying.
Tears of joy.
I love spending time
with the two of you.
Oh, my God. [laughs]
You're sweating.
You're sweating.
There's a lot
of bright lights in here.
- I love it. I love it.
- [laughs]
- This has made my day.
- You're crying!
This has made my day.
I'm really glad
you didn't eat it
'cause we got
a lot of work to do.
And that's exactly
why I didn't eat it.
And I told you
I could not do it.
We have a lot of work to do.
Am I forming sentence okay?
My tongue is on fire.
We're not gonna see you
for three days, I'm sure.
- Three days?
- We're not gonna say where we're going!
Where are you taking my wife?
We have work to do.
You're gonna be held up.
- Can't she come home at night?
- No.
So, have you ever
been in one of these stores?
- An antique store?
- Yeah.
Once or twice.
Not your jam.
I'm not really into clutter
or old stuff.
Well, this is like your worst
nightmare- a cluttered house
- 'cause that's just how it is.
- Do you like them?
I like them because I can go
in and out really quick
'cause I know what I'm looking
for, and I know right to beeline.
- I'll follow your lead.
- Okay. Sounds good.
- I love your outfit.
- You like my outfit?
- I have those boots in white.
- [laughs]
- I have those boots in white.
- [laughs]
So, one thing
I've never asked you.
Are you, like,
an antique shopper?
- Yes. I love antiques.
- Of course you do.
[James] My great-grandmother
owned an antique store.
[laughs] Of course she did.
- She did.
- Okay.
[James] And it was full of
this kind of stuff, and I love it.
I grew up around it.
Well, I didn't, and a lot of stuff
actually gives me a little bit of anxiety.
Oh, you'll be fine.
Oh. That's cute,
but not that word.
- Bond.
- Band.
- [James] Oh, band.
- Yeah.
- Like, that kind of, like, vibe, but not band.
- Yeah, I get it.
- Like, that kind of, like, vibe, but not band.
- Yeah, I get it.
[Christina] This place is massive.
I feel like we need to split up.
Whoever finds something first,
the other one buys them lunch.
Okay.
You're not gonna
find anything
'cause you don't know
what to look for.
[gasps] Oh.
Oh, my gosh.
[gasps]
[gasps] Oh.
This is my kind
of antique shopping.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Hello.
-[laughs] -Okay. You know what?
There can only be one queen.
- Now there's two.
- Uh
And guess what else I found?
- Pearls.
- Pearls.
- For you?
- Yes.
I see there's going to be
two queens in this house.
There's now two queens
in the castle.
- Castle.
- [laughs]
- [Christina laughs]
- Too small?
- Too small.
- Oh, really? Look at that. That's what I found.
[gasps]
- [James] That's pretty cool, huh?
- Ooh.
- I
- That is vintage. That's an antique.
- I love that.
- That was probably on top of a grocery store.
That is so cute,
and what a good price.
- Shall we get it?
- Uh, yeah.
- This was a success. We found a sign.
- Crown.
- Sign.
- Crown.
- Crown sign.
- Crown.
James and I found the perfect
piece for Terese and Tom's kitchen,
and now it's time to put the
finishing touches together.
I love the way
everything turned out.
- Okay. You got one shot.
- It should be fairly simple.
Should be for the average
person. Oh, gosh.
Like I said.
For the average person.
- You have no sense of straightness.
- I don't.
- Do you?
- Of course.
- [James] Look, stepping it up.
- Ooh.
- Putting it on a pedestal.
- Finishing touches.
- Yeah. Makes it look like a cake, doesn't it?
- Perfection.
[James] Yeah. [laughs]
Oh.
- [Christina] That really sets the tone.
- Doesn't it?
[exhales]
- [James] I love it.
- Terese is gonna love it, too.
We need to see it from
the back so it's straight.
[Christina] All right.
Let's take a closer look.
Perfect.
Perfect.
Now we are done.
Fabulous.
Terese has waited long enough
for her dream kitchen,
and I'm so excited
the wait is over.
- Big day.
- Yes.
- Do it.
- Yes, yes, yes.
I know you guys love to cook. I
know you love being in the kitchen,
- and you've had this place for a while.
- [Terese] Yeah.
- Yes.
- [Christina] But I think it's definitely
- gonna be worth the wait. It looks beautiful.
- [Terese] Can't wait.
- You guys ready?
- Yes.
[Christina] All right.
Come on in.
So, this kitchen has come
a long way.
So, this kitchen has come
a long way.
- And I hope it's everything you dreamed of.
- Oh, my gosh!
- I hope it's everything you dreamed of.
- Oh, my gosh.
- [Tom] Holy cow.
- [Terese] Oh, I love this. Look at this.
Look at this. Yep.
- Look at how thick it is.
- It's so big.
- [Christina] Right?
- [Terese] Oh, my gosh.
I am stunned.
- It's exceeded my expectations.
- [Tom] Blown away.
[Terese] It's gorgeous.
- Wow.
- [gasps in awe]
Oh, and I love the lights.
Three, potentially, could have been
too many, but I think two's perfect.
[Terese]
It's the perfect spacing.
[Terese]
It's the perfect spacing.
- [Tom] Terese, look at the cabinets.
- [Terese] Oh!
- Hold on. Let me look.
- Hold on. Soak it in.
Oh, my gosh. That's gorgeous.
[gasps] I love the tile.

- It's a priority.
We found this house online.

- Okay.
- [Terese] The flow is all wrong.
- Yep.
I'm constantly There's a lot
of footsteps going back and forth

and the stove, and the fridge.

One of the main issues is that
these two rooms are not joined at all.

I just feel very isolated,
there's no flow.
Anything else
that's not working?

- [Christina] Wide open.
- [Terese] Yes.

- [Christina] Do a very large island facing the television.
- [Terese] Yes.
- [Christina] We are gonna get rid of this peninsula.
- [Terese] Yep.
[Christina] On this back wall

with a hood and uppers
and lowers on each side.
- [Terese] Yes.

[Christina] On this wall, where
you currently have your small oven,
[Christina] On this wall, where
you currently have your small oven,
I'd love to do a refrigerator.
[Terese] Perfect.
[Christina] And then on this wall, where
you have this kind of awkward shape
- ideally I would love to square this off.
- [Terese] Yes.
[Christina] And then a floor to
ceiling cabinetry over here for storage.
- [Terese] Great, I love it.
- And I think also with your budget
we definitely have room to also
open up this archway by the front door
and get rid
of the pillars as well.
- So we can match the spaces?
- Yes.
- Perfect.
- Good.
And also, cooks triangle, we
will have a nice sink in the island.
That way now you can have
oven, sink, refrigerator all right here.
- Yes, I love it.
- Okay.
So, while you have me, is there anything
else you guys were looking to do?
Our primary bathroom is a
little lackluster, to say the least.
So we wanna do that too.
- All right, let's go check it out.
- Okay, great. This way.
[Christina] This is a very
awkward layout.
- Then we've got this closet in the corner over here.
- Tom, where's your stuff?
- Upstairs. I don't get a closet.
- He doesn't have stuff.
- I haven't earned that yet.
- He doesn't get a closet.
You got totally kicked out.
- Yeah, exactly.
- Totally kicked out.
[Christina] Okay. Yeah, I feel
like the angles are very odd.
[Christina] Okay. Yeah, I feel
like the angles are very odd.
It's like hodgepodge.
- It's like they just threw things in random corners.
- [Terese] Completely.
[Christina] And this shower,
it's just, again, odd.
It feels like
it's a little creepy.
- It's like tucked back in there.
- [Terese] It's creepy.
- [Christina] Tom, do you actually use the shower?
- Uh
- He can barely get in there.
- It opens up a little bit, but it is
- You have to go in sideways?
- I do.
- [all laughing]
- [Christina] Oh, no.
Yeah, that's not working.
- [Tom] Yeah, it's very confining.
- No.
It really is.
[Terese] We have two windows
and neither one of them open.
What'd you mean? They're
broken or they just aren't meant to?
What'd you mean? They're
broken or they just aren't meant to?
- There's not meant to open.
- [Tom] They don't open.
Like, are they just for light?
- Yep, they're just for looks.
- Oh.
Okay. What are we looking
to spend here?
-Probably $35,000 at
least. I think we -Yeah.
You know, I'd like to We're gonna
have to do some damage in here.
I'd love to get
a bigger closet.
I don't even know
if that's possible.
Even if I could get a foot.
Definitely need a contractor to
walk this one to come up with a figure.
- As far as budget.
- [Terese] Yeah.
But what I'm thinking
just initially
is, like, if we got rid of
the shower from this side
and we really extended
this closet this way.
and we really extended
this closet this way.
Flipped the shower
into this corner,
did a really nice
walk-in shower over here.
- [Terese] Okay.
- [Christina] Fix the windows so they open.
And then figure out a different
spot for the water closet.
And then we could
still have a double vanity,
I think that could look
really nice.
Are you guys ready though?
Do you guys wanna get started?
- Yeah.

that makes it tough.
So that's gonna take, uh,
potentially 6 to 8 months.
[Christina] Wait,

Yep, They're not

- Where's the tank?
- [Josh] Underground.
- How big is it?
Uh, big enough to handle
a three-bedroom house.
- [Tom] So what do we do?
- We gotta get a soil scientist out here.
- Didn't know that was a thing.
- Is it.
Doing jobs in Tennessee
can be a bit different,
you have to worry about things

But I leave all that stuff

There's a big wait list

It's a process for approval.
And there's no way

And there's no way
around it? Okay.
[Josh] So do you wanna wait 6

- Cheers, spinach.
- Mmm.
- Cheers, spinach.
- Mmm.
That's delicious.
All right. You gonna go put on
your overalls and go help Josh?
[Josh] There's blackberries
have a lot of seeds.
- Yeah.
- Let's go, come this way.
- Let's go to work.
- After I eat all of the spinach.
Oh, you probably need all the
spinach if you're working with me.
[Christina] While JB and his team
keep the project moving forward
I'm gonna meet with Terese and
Tom to go over kitchen materials.
Hello?
- Purple, right?
- [Tom] Yep.
Hi.
[Terese] So Hi, there!
[Terese] So Hi, there!
Wow! A real construction zone.
[Terese] I cleaned for you.
Oh, my gosh.
Oh, no. How are you doing
without your kitchen?
I'm just so excited
to get a nice kitchen.
I don't care, it's fine.
It'll all be fine.
What are you
doing for cooking?
- Barbecuing.
- Oh.
- Oh.
- [Terese] Yeah.
- You like my new island?
- I do, it's looking good.
And my light design?
Oh, there we go.
- We're in a full on construction zone.
- [Terese] Yeah.
- Okay. Well, today's a fun day.
- I know, I'm so excited.
- Okay. So mind if I setup here on your kitchen?
- [Terese] Sure.
- Okay. So mind if I setup here on your kitchen?
- [Terese] Sure.
- Just don't mind the plastic.
- Your dining table.
- Okay.
- [Terese] Yeah.
Okay, so we have some
beautiful materials today.
- [Terese] So excited.
- Okay, so we have that
transitional kind of farmhouse
vibe with a little pop of color.
- So let's start with the fun part, backsplash.
- Mmm.
[Christina] First option,
- kinda like geometric a little bit.
- Yeah.
- Two-toned.
- Subtle blue, yep.
- We have this one.
- Ooh.
[Christina] It's really
pretty as well.
- That arabesque.
- That's really pretty.
It's a little bit
more ornate [gasps]
It's a little bit
more ornate [gasps]
- Oh, this one's calling to you.
- Ohhh. Oh, my gosh.
- Door number three?
- Okay, this one's your favorite.
This has, like,
a diamond in it.
[Terese] And they're all
so different,
but what I like about all of
them is they all have dimension.
- [Christina] Yes.
- And they'll go with that transitional
farmhouse set
we're going for.
- [Tom] Great colors here.
- I know.
My initial reaction
Look, because it's got the
blue, and the grey, and the white.
[Christina]
It's really pretty.
So it'll tie
everything together.
- Subtle pop of color.
- [Terese] Yeah.
- What'd you think?
- I'm in to it.
- Yes! He likes it.
- All right, cabinet color.
- Yes! He likes it.
- All right, cabinet color.
So I was thinking white perimeter,
keep it light and bright in here.
- [Terese] Okay.
- And then a pop of color with the island.
- [Terese] Ohhh.
- Go darker or lighter.
Okay, so I love
all the blues and greys.
So this is in
and then one of these.
[Christina] Yes. So this'll
be everything but the island,
and then the island
would be the pop.
- To get that pop of color?
- Yes.
'Cause I don't want it to be
too institutional looking.
- Exactly.
- So I need that pop, okay.
- I like the way that ties in.
- [Christina] Perfect.
- [Terese] Let's do that one.
- Okay.
So then we have
counter choices
- for the island and the perimeter.
- Mmm.
- for the island and the perimeter.
- Mmm.
[Christina] This one has, like, almost
like a little bit of a concrete vibe
and this one's softer,
marbling.
They're both quartz, so
really durable, cooking-friendly.
[Terese] I like this one.
- Did you wanna say?
- What she said.
- I like this one because the veins here
- [Christina] Yep.
- Really pretty.
- tie in with everything.
No matter which one I pick
it ties in with everything.
This is a little darker,
not that it's dull.
- But I just think this is bright.
- [Terese] Yeah.
[Tom] And that's what
we're going for
- I mean, as far as light and bright.
- Agreed.
[Christina] This one
never goes out of style.
[Christina] This one
never goes out of style.
- Okay, so last choice in here, pull handles.
- [Terese] Okay.
I feel like this one has more
of like a country chic vibe.
And this one's
a little more industrial.
[Terese] This one looks like
a mailbox to me.
- Yeah.
- I like that one.
I like the country chic one.
- It does kinda look
- [Terese chuckles] A long mailbox.
- I like a little bit of character like that.
- I do too, it's beautiful.
[Terese] Oh, that looks
so good together.
Okay, so we're gonna use
this one as a pop of color
- somewhere else.
- Let's figure that out.
- Okay.
- Let's do that.
- All the cabinets.
- [Terese] Yep.
- Except the island which'll be in this beautiful color.
- [Terese] Yes.
- And then we have the counters.
- [Terese] Yes.
- And then we have the counters.
- [Terese] Yes.
- This amazing backsplash.
- Love it, love it.
- And the pull handles.
- [Terese] Yes.
Okay, so I do have one more
dilemma I wanna run by you.
- Okay, so I do have one more dilemma I wanna run by you.
- Okay.
- The floors.
- Mmm-hmm.
So as you noticed, we
have to sort of redo the floors
- 'cause we're replacing wood.
- Right.
I don't know if I wanna
stick with the dark color.
I have to do
the whole bottom floor,
- but the stairs are dark.
- [Christina] Right.
I was kind of hoping you would
say this because I feel like
I mean, one of your main
concerns was feeling dark,
you wanna
feel light and bright.
You wanna have that feel like
you had in your previous house.
You wanna have that feel like
you had in your previous house.
So I think lightening the floors
will dramatically give you that,
everything you want.
It'll be a huge difference.
And your stairs,
they're not a terrible color,
it's like a nice blend
of the light and dark.
And if later you decide,
look, I love this new color
downstairs you can always change it.
- Okay, okay.
- [Tom] Good.
No one's gonna walk
in and be like
Especially 'cause you
have the carpet runner.
- [Tom] Yeah.
- Right.
And I don't wanna take out
the carpet runner 'cause I love it.
So that's design faux pas
to have the two?
- No, it happens all the time, just so you know.
- Okay, great.
Especially in remodeling
Especially in remodeling
when you're doing the
downstairs first, it's just
We don't wanna go with this
- and still have an old school feel.
- Right.
- You know, we wanna upgrade
- Everything.
we want everything
to be upgraded the same.
And if there's a transition upstairs it's
a totally separate part of the house.
Right. So it happens
to be that
I'm just gonna show you this.
That like this right here
- is flooring basically stripped, okay.
- [Terese] Okay.
And look how much just prettier
even the backsplash looks next to that.
[Tom] Even in
a natural state.
- Oh, that looks so light and bright, yeah.
- [Christina] Right?
- Oh, that looks so light and bright, yeah.
- [Christina] Right?
That looks phenomenal, yeah.
- [Christina] Just looks new, fresh.
- Yeah. Totally, fresh.
It really pops
and I like that pop.
I feel like what we can do is we can
strip some areas of the existing flooring,
- we can have JB do some samples.
- [Terese] Okay.
- Like, maybe four?
- [Terese] Okay, perfect.
And one being just natural
- and then a few other tones, different light tones.
- Okay.
And then we can pick one.
- Love that.
- Perfect.
- Oh, I can't wait.
- Okay, so anything else.
- The lights.
- Okay.
- So
- Oh, you have 'em already?
- So
- Oh, you have 'em already?
- We have lights. Should we do that today?
- Yeah.
- Show me.
- They showed up today.
Let me go grab that.
Let me go grab the light.
- We can talk that out.
- Are we talking about the lights above the island?
- [Terese] Yeah.
- Oh, cool.
It's unusual for clients
to get really excited
and go out and buy things on their
own without consulting the team.
[Terese] Isn't that beautiful?
[Tom] This is what we had
in our old house.
- [Christina scoffs]
- [Terese] Exactly.
I had them above the kitchen
island, I love the pendants.
And we're gonna do pendants
over the island.
How many did you
have at your old house?
- [Terese] Three.
- Okay.
I get your dilemma.
The island's the same size,
- but the kitchen's a different layout.
- Yes.
- but the kitchen's a different layout.
- Yes.
Aww, so pretty.
- [Terese] I love 'em.
- Yep, me too.
Sometimes it doesn't work out,
but in this case, it did.
I love the lights,
they're super pretty.
[Terese] But I don't know,
two or three?
- I think two.
- You think two?
Yeah, just based on the shape
and, like, where this wall settles.
I think three
will feel a little busy
- It would be too much.
- Yeah.
- Okay, awesome. So we got a lot done today.
- [Terese] Yes.
We are gonna make a decision
on flooring,
- we'll get you some samples.
- Okay.
We'll get this ordered,
you already have the lights.
And then we'll
be moving forward.
And then we'll
be moving forward.
Awesome. And look
at this opening space.
- So much better.
- That's exactly what I wanted, I know.
The flow is so much better.
- Yes, it's much better.
- Yeah.
- Totally gonna look amazing.
- Yeah.
- It'll be done before you know it.
- Awesome, I can't wait.
- Love it.
- Are you good, Tom?
- Perfect.
- As long as you have your TV?
Well, look. I mean, you can see through
the cellophane how good it's gonna be.
Okay. I figured you're happy.
All right, let's do it.
- All right, guys, big decision today.
- [Terese] Okay.
We're talking about the flooring
throughout the entire downstairs.
Yep, yep.
Okay,
so it's beautiful flooring,
we just wanna pick a stain that's
gonna compliment the staircase.
We are gonna
keep the stairs, right?
- Yes, I wanna keep the stairs.
- Okay.
So JB brought
some stain samples.
And now, we just need
to narrow it down
and pick a stain color
that you guys like.
Okay. That won't clash, okay.
So we have different choices that kind of range
from light, medium, and more of a natural.
- This is the lightest.
- [Terese] Okay.
- This is the lightest.
- [Terese] Okay.
This is the darkest.
You have a whitewash.
And then you have
the most natural color.
Okay, so if I kinda want something
to go with the stairs and not clash,
and be a little bit
of farmhouse-y,
can we start eliminating like
which ones will not achieve that?
Let's take 'em out.
I would say these two
are my favorite.
-[Terese] Okay -Think these
two definitely do not clash.
- [Terese] I love those.
- They're definitely gonna give you
that like light, bright,
farmhouse look that you want.
Yeah, I love both of them.
What I like about this one is I feel like
the grain pops a little bit more in that,
What I like about this one is I feel like
the grain pops a little bit more in that,
do you think that'll contrast
in a good way or a bad way
with the stairs?
I think it will compliment it
very nicely.
Awesome. What'd you think?
What'd you think?
- We like it.
- [all laughing]
- [Josh] There ya go.
- That's the one.
Final answer.
I like it. So if you agree
to it, I think that's the one.
- [Christina] I love it.
- Okay.
- Awesome, great.
- [Josh] Great.
Well, we'll get started
on the floors
- and once that's done we'll start putting in cabinets.
- Cool.
[Christina] We're back in California,
checking in on some clients,
and while we're here, it's
time for a family bake-off.
and while we're here, it's
time for a family bake-off.
This is team
chocolate-chip cookies.
- Mom's pumpkin bread recipe.
- Oh, I hate pumpkin bread.
Brayden, come to the
man's side. We got this.
Terese has definitely inspired me
with her love of cooking and baking.
[Josh] I have no
baking experience at all,
but I know how to follow
instructions pretty well.
I'm gonna keep it
totally real.
I have, like, a baking curse.
Every time I try to bake something
- It turns out horrible.
- it turns out horrible.
This right here is Mom's OG
pumpkin bread recipe.
We're gonna follow it.
Oh, guess what? I'm doing the
vanilla. Do you wanna help me?
[Josh] No, he's on my team.
Stop.
[Josh] No, he's on my team.
Stop.
- Anyway. So, this is vegetable oil.
- Ew. Vegetable.
[Christina] Keep stirring.
Oh, Brayden. We're gonna storm
past them. Don't worry about it.
- Ready?
- All right.
I think the butter is melted.
- Boom.
- It looks so good.
So, we're doing
a client's house.
- Have you ever heard of a chef's triangle?
- No.
It's basically where you have a kitchen
where, like, everything's in a triangle
so it's easy to access.
We do not have that. We have
an upside down rectangle.
Dude, that looks
a little gross.
[Josh] It's pumpkin.
[Josh] It's pumpkin.
Now we Okay.
[Josh] Are they
googling recipes?
You did! It's your mom's!
This is Kristen's.
My mom's not on the Google.
Kristen texted me this recipe. She said
it's the best chocolate-chip cookies ever.
- No, we're on the paper.
- Well, Brayden, we kept it in the family.
- Oh.
- [laughs]
- Can we make it go a little faster?
- We can.
Wow. Super speedy.
Careful. You're gonna
elbow me in the face.
- Hey, the mixer's so much easier.
- [Christina] You think?
[Brayden laughs]
You guys got
the electric mixer.
Do you know what a
disadvantage this puts us at?
Well, there was one.
Somebody had to take it.
You snooze, you lose.
We got it.
"Here's the secret. Let
the dough sit for 24 hours."
- We don't have time for that.
- [Josh] So, now
It says, "I know it's agony, but the longer
the dough sits, the more flavor it takes on.
Seriously, it matters. You can tell the
difference in 12 hours versus 48 hours."
[Josh] Well, I guess you guys
will be starving tonight.
We'll be munching down
on some bread.
I'm not even sure why the girls
tried to bake against Brayden and I
because we've got this
in the bag.
because we've got this
in the bag.
Hey, how about you guys just go to the
grocery store and make it way easier?
- Because we're
- [Josh laughs]
[Brayden] So bad.
[Christina] Why don't you
go to the grocery store
and make your pumpkin bread
easier? Just buy a loaf.
Actually, they don't have this
kind of bread at the grocery store
- [Taylor] Yeah, because it's not good enough.
- because it's so good.
- No, 'cause it's so good.
- No, 'cause it's not good enough.
Rule number one in baking:
follow the instructions.
Someone else has already
figured it out.
Tay, you accidentally bumped this
with your knee and turned off the oven.
- [Taylor] When?
- [Christina] I don't know.
[Josh] Sabotage.
[Josh] Sabotage.
Okay. So, we accidentally
turned off this oven for a second.
- [phone alarm rings]
- Well, there's my timer.
- [Christina] Okay, so
- So, what you're saying is it's not ready.
We're definitely at a
disadvantage on this side because
- [softly] "Disadvantage."
- [Christina] the oven is turning off
You guys have a mixer.
You're so worried
about this mixer.
- Well, yeah, 'cause it makes a big difference.
- Okay. Anyways.
Maybe I should have read
the instructions on this recipe
before starting this project.
Might have to
throw in the towel.
Let's just go get ice cream.
[laughs]
You have no confidence
in our bread?
[laughs]
[Christina] While J.B.'s team
preps to refinish the floors,
I'm gonna meet
with Terese and Tom
to go over paint options
for the shiplap.
So, I kind of feel like
when I first came here,
- I didn't even notice there was shiplap here.
- [Terese] Yeah.
Because your eye's just
kind of drawn to outside,
so I think it'd be really nice to
make it pop with a really pretty color.
[Terese] Yes.
- So there's two options.
- Okay.
One is a bluish-gray,
on the lighter side.
One is a bluish-gray,
on the lighter side.
It sort of looks like the
color of your sofa from here.
[Terese] Okay.
And then we have
the darker blue
with a little more
of a gray undertone.
Okay.
- Okay.
- Nice.
And then we're painting
these walls lighter,
so paint's
a very tricky thing.
- Yeah.
- Because it looks different in every light
and also looks different when
it's presented next to other colors.
- Yeah.
- So imagine these walls are a bit lighter.
- Yeah.
- And then you can even step back and take a look.
I'm kind of naturally drawn
to the lighter color
- because it goes with the palette.
- Mmm-hmm.
- But this just pulls me in. The impact of it.
- Yeah.
- I don't know.
- It's more bold.
- Yeah. Makes a statement. I like it.
- Tom?
I'm leaning
towards the darker.
I think it gives it
a little more of a contrast.
I agree. I mean, naturally, you guys have
a similar color throughout the house.
- Yeah.
- So I think to add a bold element,
it makes sense
to go with the darker.
I also think
it's really pretty.
And you have such a beautiful
yard out there,
and I feel like this one really
draws your eye to outside, too,
and it kind of makes the house
feel bigger and more open.
Yeah. I agree.
I think it'll frame it.
I think it's very powerful.
I like it.
Okay. Perfect.
We're two weeks away from
finishing up Terese and Tom's house.
Countertops and backsplash
are going in,
so I'm headed there
to check on the progress.
Check out
this beautiful kitchen.
Oh, this island.
- Wow.
- Look! It's so big!
- Oh, my.
- I love it!
- I love - And the
floors came out so great.
- [Christina] Good decision.
- [Tom] Yep.
- [Christina] Good decision.
- [Tom] Yep.
[Terese] It really has
that farmhouse feel.
Totally modern farmhouse
vibes in here,
which is something
we should talk about.
- Yeah.
- Because as far as furniture and decor
- [Terese] Yeah.
- is that the angle you're thinking?
Yeah. So, I got my love
of cooking from my mom.
She was an antique dealer, and I
used to go to flea markets with her
- when I was little, and she was an awesome cook.
- [Christina] Aw, fun.
So when I'm in the kitchen,
I sort of channel her.
Like, she tells me, "Oh, no, that's
too much salt. Oh, add that spice."
But this is so new and bright
and shiny.
I'm struggling with how do I
add a little piece of my mom?
I'm struggling with how do I
add a little piece of my mom?
Is there an antique element
that I can bring in
that goes with the farmhouse and
this modern, beautiful new kitchen?
For sure. And I think the
best part is, being in Franklin,
- downtown Franklin has the cutest antique shops.
- [Tom] Mmm-hmm.
- Okay.
- They do.
And my design partner,
James, is the best shopper,
- and he's super good with antiques
- [Terese] Great.
so him and I will go
shopping, and we'll look around,
and we'll find something.
- Is there any, like,
phrases - I'd love that.
Any phrases you like or any
colors that you're thinking?
Maybe something above the
window right here in the dining room.
Maybe something above the
window right here in the dining room.
I've often thought that would be a
great space for, like, a vintage sign
like a bakery, but it's really
gotta be vintage.
- Nothing from, like, a mainstream store, right?
- No.
- Like, it really has to have that true vintage feel.
- Yeah.
And I don't know
what it could say.
- It doesn't really matter what it says.
- Okay.
It's just that energy
that it gives off.
- Like, that old tradition.
- [Christina] I love that.
It makes it feel, like,
very homey, too.
- [Terese] It does. It does.
- Okay. Okay.
Cool. I'm excited.
That's gonna be fun.
All right. We're about
two weeks out.
Not bad. Okay.
- Not bad at all.
- [Terese] Okay.
- We just have some backsplash to finish up.
- [Terese] Okay.
- We just have some backsplash to finish up.
- [Terese] Okay.
We have the appliances
to go in.
A few cabinets. We're
gonna paint the back wall.
But we're getting
really close.
- Okay.
- Next time we see each other, its gonna look amazing.
I can't wait,
and then I can cook.
Exactly.
Every time that James
comes into town,
we love to take him
on an experience.
So we are taking him
to Party Fowl,
- which is hot chicken.
- I love hot chicken.
- which is hot chicken.
- I love hot chicken.
Like, how hot
is the chicken gonna be?
[Josh] Well, it's not hot,
temperature, it's hot, spicy, also.
- I know.
- I didn't know if you knew.
- Spicy chicken.
- Yes. You know I love spicy.
- I don't. Do you think James is gonna like spicy?
- No way.
He can't even handle sushi.
James is the pickiest eater on the
planet, so it's gonna be interesting.
Are you ready for this week?
- Oh, I'm ready.
- I'm excited.
- We have a lot to do, though.
- Yes.
Terese, she's super
into cooking. You know that.
So she wants to have something in
the house that reminds her of her mom.
So she wants to have something in
the house that reminds her of her mom.
Her mom
was an antique shopper.
- So maybe we can find, like, a really cool antique store
- [James] Yeah.
and find, like,
a vintage sign.
Maybe something like
'the coop', but not 'the coop'.
- [James] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- Okay.
So, maybe tomorrow
we hit up some antique shops.
Oh, absolutely.
That'll be fun.
- Cool.
- I love antique shops.
- I'm excited.
- [Josh] You're going on a date with my wife again?
- Always.
- [Josh chuckles]
- Ooh.
- [waiter] Half bird right here.
- Oh, that's me. Thank you.
- What in the heck?
- What do you mean?
- [waiter] Got the chicken and beignets.
- Oh, that's me. Thank you.
- Wow. [laughs]
- Cobb salad.
- Thank you. Thank you.
Of course you found a salad
at a hot chicken place.
Of course you found a salad
at a hot chicken place.
- Guys. I like what I like.
- You know what?
[Josh] So, mine says,
'Nashville Hot',
which, 'Nashville Hot' on here
is 600,000 Scoville.
What does that mean,
"Scoville"?
- [Josh] I don't know.
- [James] It's a heat scale.
[Christina] Two million?
Is that like?
2.2 million is the hot one.
Is the Poultrygeist.
- [laughs] - [Josh] So,
James, we're in Nashville,
and Nashville hot chicken's
a thing.
- So
- [James] Well, I'm finding out.
That's fine, but remember.
You're here with us now.
- Yeah, I know.
- [Josh] You gotta do
Josh.
You're in Nashville.
When in Rome
Josh wants to turn everything
into a competition,
and quite frankly, I am not
interested in playing this game.
[Josh] Listen. There's a scale.
You can start at the bottom.
There's so many things that we
can do in Rome but eat hot chicken.
- You're eating that with ease.
- I
The food's great, but the
spicy level? It's nothing.
- And that's at 600,000.
- Let's bring out Poultrygeist.
- Yeah, let's
- Bring on the two million.
Here we go, y'all.
[Christina] Okay.
Go for the Poultrygeist.
- All right. I'm super excited for this.
- All right. Sure.
It's not done yet.
It's gonna kick.
Let me try a teeny tiny
I wanna see if it's hot.
[James] Just lick it.
- You just
- [gasps]
- Oh, come on.
- Oh, yeah. It's hot. What's wrong with you?
- That is so hot. You're crazy. My tongue is still burning.
- [James] I know.
Oh, my God.
What is wrong with you?
- [James] I'm the only sane
- Do you not have tastebuds?
[Josh chuckles]
- I'm the only sane person here at the table.
- [Christina sighs]
Spicy chicken
is the least of my worries.
I'm not afraid of anything.
I've handled a lot worse.
He thinks he's winning,
but is he really?
He thinks he's winning,
but is he really?
I've literally eaten habanero
peppers whole like they were candy.
I'm waiting for the smoke
to come out of his ears.
You want some milk?
- I just had some. It's not doing anything.
- Ah!
- [James laughs] - I think
I'm losing my motor skills.
- [Christina laughs]
- [coughs]
[clears throat]
It's a natural reaction.
You're, like, going very red.
[laughs] Look at his eyes.
- [laughs]
- [James] He's crying.
Tears of joy.
I love spending time
with the two of you.
Oh, my God. [laughs]
You're sweating.
You're sweating.
There's a lot
of bright lights in here.
- I love it. I love it.
- [laughs]
- This has made my day.
- You're crying!
This has made my day.
I'm really glad
you didn't eat it
'cause we got
a lot of work to do.
And that's exactly
why I didn't eat it.
And I told you
I could not do it.
We have a lot of work to do.
Am I forming sentence okay?
My tongue is on fire.
We're not gonna see you
for three days, I'm sure.
- Three days?
- We're not gonna say where we're going!
Where are you taking my wife?
We have work to do.
You're gonna be held up.
- Can't she come home at night?
- No.
So, have you ever
been in one of these stores?
- An antique store?
- Yeah.
Once or twice.
Not your jam.
I'm not really into clutter
or old stuff.
Well, this is like your worst
nightmare- a cluttered house
- 'cause that's just how it is.
- Do you like them?
I like them because I can go
in and out really quick
'cause I know what I'm looking
for, and I know right to beeline.
- I'll follow your lead.
- Okay. Sounds good.
- I love your outfit.
- You like my outfit?
- I have those boots in white.
- [laughs]
- I have those boots in white.
- [laughs]
So, one thing
I've never asked you.
Are you, like,
an antique shopper?
- Yes. I love antiques.
- Of course you do.
[James] My great-grandmother
owned an antique store.
[laughs] Of course she did.
- She did.
- Okay.
[James] And it was full of
this kind of stuff, and I love it.
I grew up around it.
Well, I didn't, and a lot of stuff
actually gives me a little bit of anxiety.
Oh, you'll be fine.
Oh. That's cute,
but not that word.
- Bond.
- Band.
- [James] Oh, band.
- Yeah.
- Like, that kind of, like, vibe, but not band.
- Yeah, I get it.
- Like, that kind of, like, vibe, but not band.
- Yeah, I get it.
[Christina] This place is massive.
I feel like we need to split up.
Whoever finds something first,
the other one buys them lunch.
Okay.
You're not gonna
find anything
'cause you don't know
what to look for.
[gasps] Oh.
Oh, my gosh.
[gasps]
[gasps] Oh.
This is my kind
of antique shopping.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Hello.
-[laughs] -Okay. You know what?
There can only be one queen.
- Now there's two.
- Uh
And guess what else I found?
- Pearls.
- Pearls.
- For you?
- Yes.
I see there's going to be
two queens in this house.
There's now two queens
in the castle.
- Castle.
- [laughs]
- [Christina laughs]
- Too small?
- Too small.
- Oh, really? Look at that. That's what I found.
[gasps]
- [James] That's pretty cool, huh?
- Ooh.
- I
- That is vintage. That's an antique.
- I love that.
- That was probably on top of a grocery store.
That is so cute,
and what a good price.
- Shall we get it?
- Uh, yeah.
- This was a success. We found a sign.
- Crown.
- Sign.
- Crown.
- Crown sign.
- Crown.
James and I found the perfect
piece for Terese and Tom's kitchen,
and now it's time to put the
finishing touches together.
I love the way
everything turned out.
- Okay. You got one shot.
- It should be fairly simple.
Should be for the average
person. Oh, gosh.
Like I said.
For the average person.
- You have no sense of straightness.
- I don't.
- Do you?
- Of course.
- [James] Look, stepping it up.
- Ooh.
- Putting it on a pedestal.
- Finishing touches.
- Yeah. Makes it look like a cake, doesn't it?
- Perfection.
[James] Yeah. [laughs]
Oh.
- [Christina] That really sets the tone.
- Doesn't it?
[exhales]
- [James] I love it.
- Terese is gonna love it, too.
We need to see it from
the back so it's straight.
[Christina] All right.
Let's take a closer look.
Perfect.
Perfect.
Now we are done.
Fabulous.
Terese has waited long enough
for her dream kitchen,
and I'm so excited
the wait is over.
- Big day.
- Yes.
- Do it.
- Yes, yes, yes.
I know you guys love to cook. I
know you love being in the kitchen,
- and you've had this place for a while.
- [Terese] Yeah.
- Yes.
- [Christina] But I think it's definitely
- gonna be worth the wait. It looks beautiful.
- [Terese] Can't wait.
- You guys ready?
- Yes.
[Christina] All right.
Come on in.
So, this kitchen has come
a long way.
So, this kitchen has come
a long way.
- And I hope it's everything you dreamed of.
- Oh, my gosh!
- I hope it's everything you dreamed of.
- Oh, my gosh.
- [Tom] Holy cow.
- [Terese] Oh, I love this. Look at this.
Look at this. Yep.
- Look at how thick it is.
- It's so big.
- [Christina] Right?
- [Terese] Oh, my gosh.
I am stunned.
- It's exceeded my expectations.
- [Tom] Blown away.
[Terese] It's gorgeous.
- Wow.
- [gasps in awe]
Oh, and I love the lights.
Three, potentially, could have been
too many, but I think two's perfect.
[Terese]
It's the perfect spacing.
[Terese]
It's the perfect spacing.
- [Tom] Terese, look at the cabinets.
- [Terese] Oh!
- Hold on. Let me look.
- Hold on. Soak it in.
Oh, my gosh. That's gorgeous.
[gasps] I love the tile.
Isn't this convenient, too?
[Terese] I can't wait
to cook in this.
- Chef's triangle.
- My gosh.
- End wall.
- I love that.
- Chef's triangle.
- [Terese] Yes.
- Now it's here.
- Now I can just do this.
- You can just There you go. It flows.
- This is all I need to do.
It's a different space. It doesn't
even look like the same house.
We just opened up the wall a few
feet, but it feels, like, very dramatic.
- It actually feels much more open.
- [Terese] Huge difference.
Yeah, I can see the TV
from the sink.
Yeah, I can see the TV
from the sink.
- [Tom] Oh, you can?
- [Terese] Yes!
- Come on over.
- Oh, wow.
[Terese] Aren't you thrilled?
We'll be able to talk all night.
Look how great the TV looks.
[Terese] We can talk
all night.
[Tom] I could wash the dishes
or rinse them off.
- You could load them in the dishwasher.
- Right. Yep. Yep.
- Sure. Yep. Yep.
- High five.
Maybe he will now, now that
you can see the TV from here.
Maybe. Miracles happen.
I can't believe
it's my kitchen.
- Our kitchen.
- I mean, I just wanna get in there.
Well, it's my kitchen
when I cook.
- I eat in it.
- And then it's his kitchen all the other times.
All right, Tom.
Have a seat at the island.
- Not like before.
- No. Before, the peninsula was like this high.
- Not like before.
- No. Before, the peninsula was like this high.
[Terese] Yeah.
- Oh, my.
- [Christina] Look at this.
[Terese] We can fit
under there now!
- Here.
- Look at this!
Our whole family can fit here.
And the cabinets go
all the way up to the ceiling.
You guys have a ton
of storage now.
[Terese] It brings
the whole kitchen up.
[Christina] It has a very, like, farmhouse,
country, slightly coastal feel, right?
[Terese] It's exactly
what I wanted.
And then, Christina,
where you're standing
- [Christina] It was closed off, right?
- [Tom] before, you would
have to walk all the way
around the two-tiered island
to get to the refrigerator,
the dining room.
Now you have this,
let's call it an interstate.
Now you have this,
let's call it an interstate.
Oh, yes. I like that.
- [Tom] Right through here.
- [Terese] It has flow. It has flow.
Yes. Now you can finally talk
to people as you're cooking.
I'm sure he's thrilled.
[laughter]
We had our dream kitchen
in California,
and then we moved here,
and we lost it.
And Christina completely
recreated it.
She made it happen. I had a vision,
but she really brought it to life,
and she improved upon it in ways that
I never thought it can be improved on.
Christina took it
to the next level.
Great choice
on the flooring stain.
Great choice
on the flooring stain.
- Josh Berry's guys did a great job.
- [Terese] Love it.
- [Christina] It looks like brand new flooring.
- [Terese] It does.
[Christina] It really makes
this house feel brand new.
[Terese] Right.
It brightens it up so much.
It's amazing how you open
up the walls, lighten the floors,
- and it seems like we added square footage.
- [Christina] Totally.
Okay. Let's talk
about my favorite part.
Come on in.
[Terese] The wall!
This whole space.
[Tom] I love all the contrasting
colors, too. They blend
-They're just -Well, I wanted
color. I told you I wanted color
- Yeah, it's not just one color.
- and you delivered.
- It's the perfect amount of subtle color.
- [Terese] Yeah.
- It's the perfect amount of subtle color.
- [Terese] Yeah.
- [Christina] It really brings the outside in.
- [Terese] Yeah.
It frames the outside.
- [Christina] James and I were on a mission
- [Terese] Oh.
at a local vintage store to find the
perfect complement to the dining space.
- Yeah.
- And a great reflection of all the good memories
with your mother, and we
found this- a grocery sign.
- [Terese] I love it. It's perfect.
- [Christina] Good.
It's perfect. It's vintage.
I absolutely love
that vintage sign
because it makes me think
of my mom when I cook,
and I do channel my mom
when I cook.
"And a little bit of this, and a
little bit of that," and she nailed it.
- [Tom] Yeah.
- [Terese] She nailed it.
- [Tom] Yeah.
- [Terese] She nailed it.
I know sometimes it's hard
to talk about this
- after you've just gone through construction.
- [Terese] Yeah.
But after going through
this big kitchen remodel,
how are you guys feeling about
moving forward on the bathroom?
Maybe a couple weeks, and
then, you know Yep. Love it.
- Well, you know where to find me.
- [Terese] Yay!
Famous last words.
It'll be easy.
Well, I know you guys are anxious to
get cooking and enjoying your space.
It was such a pleasure
working with you both.
- You too.
- It was so fun, and it looks absolutely beautiful.
- Likewise.
- Thank you for making my dream a reality.
- The vision.
- The vision.
- The vision is a reality.
- To life.
- Brought to life.
- Thank you, guys.
- Thank you.
- Well, you know I'm still local,
- Thank you.
- Well, you know I'm still local,
- so any time you wanna have me over for a dinner
- For sure!
[Christina] I'm around.
Thank you! Ah!
Christina knows the heart
is in the kitchen.
That's where
the family gathers.
That's where
your friends gather.
[Terese] So, we have
three adult children,
and they all moved to
Tennessee with us from California.
And they all take after him.
They're all really super tall.
- Who wants pie?
- Me.
[son] Me, obviously.
[Terese] She created
this space where it's, like,
everybody wants to be here
at the same time,
but we're not on top
of each other.
It's comfortable. It's cozy.
It's beautiful.
And it works in every way
for my family.
And it works in every way
for my family.
Christina crushed it.
- Excellent.
- Okay. I'm out.
That was really good.
- Good. Huh, guys?
- Yep.
- Good luck with that.
- Tom, you got the dishes, right?
- Thanks.
- I got this.
- Thanks.
- Could somebody at least turn on the TV for me?
Really?
