Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance (2024) s01e04 Episode Script

Night Caller

[crashing footsteps]
Bravo, we'll have to take them both.
[Zaku clanking into position]
[nervous breath]
[shaky breathing]
[muted explosions]
[tense music playing]
[muted fighting sounds]
[Solari] Bravo, respond.
Do you read me? Respond. Over.
Affirmative, Captain.
Let's pay this fucker back.
[Solari] Clear your head, Bravo.
Defending the facility is our priority.
[Lesean] Yes, ma'am.
[bellowing]
[firing rapidly]
[watch ticking]
[quiet orchestral theme music playing]
[music fades out]
- [rapid firing]
- [Zaku clanking]
[loud explosion]
Shit! One hit, and it's over.
[Lesean] Incoming!
He's got a beam weapon too?
But we can block it.
[tense music playing]
- They're splitting up.
- Alpha, don't worry about the Gundam.
I've got them.
Roger, Bravo.
Just keep it away from the base.
Roger.
[tank engine rumbling]
Damn it!
Exactly what I was trying to avoid!
We didn't go looking
for this fight, Major.
[straining sounds]
[Lesean grunts]
Alpha! Incoming!
[thunderous crash]
[tense music continues]
Lesean!
[yelling] Bastard!
[chaotic sounds]
[Heaton] Crap!
[shots hitting shield]
- [medic gasps]
- Go! Get out of here!
- Damn it!
- Hey! Where are you going?
[Arhun yelling]
Shit!
[all grunt in pain]
[dramatic chord]
[medic, quietly] We're done for.
Ony, get up.
Follow me. I have an idea.
What kind of idea? Hey!
- [Lesean] You hear that explosion, Alpha?
- [Solari] Stay focused.
[Lesean yells]
[straining sounds]
[Lesean] Thanks, Cap.
[beam blasts]
Number two is inside the line.
I'll leave him to you.
Roger.
[dramatic music playing]
[Solari grunts]
[Solari growling]
[dramatic music continues]
[music stops]
[music resumes quietly]
[music growing more intense]
[tense music playing]
[major] Stop! Stop!
[soldiers yelling and cheering]
Rotate left! Rotate left!
I'm trying, I'm trying!
Ony, hurry up! Bring it around!
[Ony] I can't get it to move!
- I need an instruction manual.
- Move aside.
- Move aside.
- Huh?
- You're in the way.
- Whoa!
Now get out of here. I've got this.
[Heaton] Quick. Come on!
No! No!
[straining]
[Lesean yelling]
[dramatic music playing]
[straining]
[heavy footsteps]
Lesean!
- Not as tough as the Gundam, huh?
- [Solari] Look out!
Shit!
I'm gonna finish him off!
[Solari] Negative, Bravo!
Hold back and defend. Hold back
[breathing heavily]
and defend the base!
Lesean!
Nowhere to run, you Federation bastard.
Where's he going?
[Solari grunts in pain]
- [dramatic chord]
- [Solari gasps]
Get out!
- [panicked gasps]
- [seat belt clicking]
[major yells]
Heaton!
[major yelling] That's enough!
Wait! Don't shoot!
[Alfee] Get down!
[distant firing sounds]
[exhales]
Come on!
[Lesean growling]
[tense music playing]
[Lesean bellowing]
[grunts]
Bravo, take 'em out!
[Lesean] Roger, Alpha!
[Solari bellowing]
[Solari yells]
[Lesean bellowing]
The pilot's bailing out, Bravo.
Hold your fire!
[Lesean continuing to yell]
I said stand down, Bravo!
[quiet]
- [intense explosion]
- [both grunt]
[angrily] We had them!
Killing a defenseless pilot
won't bring back Chubs or Kale.
I wasn't aiming for the pilot.
This was our best shot
to take out the Gundam!
At what price, Lieutenant?
[frustrated noise]
The battlefield isn't the best place
to debate mercy, Captain.
Maybe you're right, Lieutenant.
But I'm not willing
to give up my humanity yet.
Think that Gundam was debating mercy
when he cut down half our unit?
Our mission was
to defend the base, Kneeland.
Not get revenge.
There are still people relying on us.
That's all that matters.
[sighs]
You're right, Captain.
Let's get back
before enemy reinforcements show up.
- [woman] Over here!
- [man] Bring this over! Quick!
[man 2] There aren't enough people!
[Alfee] Major, where have you been?
There's still plenty that needs doing.
Captain Zydos.
It's all gone.
Those of us who survived
still need orders.
We wanna get out of this mess.
The only thing I managed to do
was yell at that Gundam.
There were more
than just our soldiers here, Zydos.
There were civilians
that I had a duty to protect.
And they all lost their lives
for the sake of this
[voice breaking] garbage dump.
A garbage dump
that you did your best to protect.
Nothing I did amounted to anything.
So many died
for the sake of this miserable place.
Still
Even for a short time,
this was our home, wasn't it, Major?
- Damn it! I failed to protect this base.
- Major.
You can't just give up now.
We all lost important people.
But now is the time
for you to show your people
that there's still hope.
Alfee, we've lost.
It'll be a miracle
if we even make it back to space.
We will.
It's our home.
[tender music playing]
Win or lose,
we gotta let the young ones go home.
Back to their families
and their loved ones.
That's your job, Rolf.
You might be right, Alfee.
Our fate's in your hands.
Don't you forget it.
Captain Zydos.
Thank you.
Lieutenant, are you okay?
Hey, Doc.
Yeah, all good.
Don't I look okay?
I'm still alive, aren't I?
But, uh [voice breaking]
looks like I'm the only one left
from the 1st Armored now.
I'm I'm so sorry, Lieutenant.
After all this, you still think the Feds
don't need to be stopped?
We should lay down and let 'em kill us?
It's my job to
[Ony gasps]
Very noble.
The Feds you save will just come back
and kill my people, Doc!
I'll save anyone on the battlefield.
That includes you.
And one day, when this is all over,
I hope you live
to see what this war has taken from us.
How much we've all lost.
And instead of revenge,
I pray that you'll want peace.
God damn it!
Lieutenant.
I'll see you back in space one day.
I really hope you find
that peace you're looking for, Doc.
I really do.
[whispers] I will.
[quiet sounds of fire crackling]
Look who made it back. Great work!
We were lucky
that Lesean was able to lead them away.
Luck had nothing to
Captain Zydos, back away
from the Captain and Lieutenant.
Captain Solari, by disobeying my orders
and restoring the Zaku,
you have attracted the enemy
to this facility and cost Zeon lives.
Major, the Captain
just saved all our asses.
Orders were disobeyed, lives were lost,
and someone must answer for it.
Captain Solari and Lieutenant Lesean
are to be detained
until evacuation is complete,
and I can formally press charges.
You've gotta be fucking kidding me!
Captain and I risked our lives
for all of you, Major!
Stand down, Lieutenant.
Feds could be back here any minute,
and he wants to arrest us?
Lower your weapon, Lieutenant,
before you make this
any worse for yourself.
Everyone just calm down.
This is not a debate.
Captain, have your man stand down
before I have him shot!
Lieutenant, don't make me repeat myself.
[car approaching]
Lesean!
What the hell are we doing here?
Major General Kellerne, welcome, sir.
Just fought off an EFF attack
and now you're all fighting again?
Or was it you who picked the fight,
Captain Iria Solari?
No, sir.
Lower your weapons.
Major.
Outstanding work, I must say.
Assembling Zaku from all this junk
and defending the facility.
Truly inspiring.
I wasn't informed of your visit, sir.
We happened to be in the area.
Quite frankly, I didn't wanna
get close, but since we did,
we've picked up something unexpected.
Good work, you two.
Sir.
Major, I want these Zaku patched up
and rearmed ASAP.
And get somebody
to put an arm back on that one.
[hesitantly] Yes, sir.
Now, is there somewhere I can speak
to the Captain in private?
I can show you to my office, sir.
No need. Just point me
in the right direction.
You've got to clean up
all this mess, don't you?
Yes.
That way, sir.
Captain Solari, with me.
Yes, sir.
Just to be clear,
the one who got those Zaku
rebuilt was you, wasn't it, Iria?
Major Ronet is in command
of this base, sir.
That stunt has you written all over it.
Just looking at this dump,
I can tell the major lacks the ingenuity
to put something like that together.
To ingenuity and Zeon's triumph.
[chuckles]
And as for the war, sir?
Always right to the point.
I don't have to tell you
the war is not going well.
That's why I have a mission for you.
For me, sir?
I don't mean any disrespect, sir,
but I've lost half my unit,
and we're short on supplies.
- And yet
- [briefcase locks snap open]
here you are.
Still the best person for the job.
That Federation mobile suit
you took down is called a GM.
They're being mass-produced
and deployed on the front line.
And I want you to bring one back.
You want me to do what, sir?
These mobile suits, the GMs,
are turning the tide of the war, Captain.
We need to find their weakness.
That means opening one up
and going over every square inch.
I'm sorry about your squadron.
They were all great pilots.
Yes, sir.
That's not all.
Your husband was a brilliant musician.
He had such a valuable talent.
Just like you.
His death is a great loss.
Yes, sir. Thank you.
I don't do loss well, Captain.
I don't like losing soldiers,
friends, loved ones.
I don't like losing battles,
and I sure as hell don't like losing wars.
Agreed, sir.
And right now,
we're getting our asses handed to us,
and the GMs are
rolling off the assembly lines.
- And there's
- The Gundam.
Yes.
It's a serious threat.
What was the one you fought like?
It's like a shadow you can't shake off.
So we should lay down and give up?
Surrender everything our comrades
have fought and died for?
No, sir. Of course,
we'll find its weakness and defeat it.
Damn right we will.
And we start by getting our hands
on one of these mass-produced GMs.
These are mobile suit command keys
obtained by one of our spies.
With them, you should be able
to commandeer a GM.
And right here, at this EFF outpost,
is where you'll find one.
If we can find a way
to defeat their mobile suits,
we can still win the war.
I'm gonna get this army sorted out
and back on its feet.
So, if you can bring me
a nice, big souvenir to Odessa,
then maybe we can
all happily get back to space together.
Understood, Captain?
Understood, sir.
[gentle atmospheric music playing]
[music ends]
