They spend billions of dollars seducing kids with their advertising, deceiving kids, in fact, but, hey, let's blame mom.
Don't you think that she is somewhat to blame? Somewhat? Sure.
But so are they.
They sell billions of meals to kids under 12, and they do it with toys, happy meals, that oh-so-right recipe of sugar and salt.
The Federal Trade Commission estimates that big food spends about $1.
6 billion a year to convince children to eat unhealthy food.
And they shouldn't take any responsibility? None? Judge Admittedly, I may not know as much about tort law as you, but the law professors I studied under at the law school I did, in fact, go to they all framed the question as follows: "Who's in the best position to fix the problem?" That's how you apportion liability.
Now, maybe it's mom.
But just maybe, it's a little bit them.
How about we hold them just slightly accountable? They rake in millions of dollars a day as the obesity rate compounds and compounds.
America is now the fattest nation on the planet.
They stuff their consumers with fat, sugar, chemical additives would it be so wrong to say, "how about you contribute a little bit to the solution?" I'll tell you this: they never will.
Not so long as judges keep dismissing lawsuits.

As you put it, the only danger in eating fast food is commonly known.
If you hold us liable, who's next? Candy bars, potato chips? Liquor is certainly addictive.
Would alcoholics now have claims against? Liquor's known to be addictive, while junk food isn't.
Do we let obese people sue suppliers every time they eat too much? Sugar and fat are part of a balanced diet when consumed in moderation.
And how is that done? "Moderation"? When one double-bacon cheeseburger contains more fat than any person should consume in a week.
We sell food, for God's sake, what? Nutritionally void, carcinogenic, addictive food with advertising aimed at children, aimed at blacks, aimed at latinos - Oh, blacks now.

They cluster their franchises in urban low-income neighborhoods, preying on poor minorities - That isn't true.

African-Americans and latinos suffer a disproportionate amount of food-related diseases and deaths, and there's a direct causal link to fast food.
Do you have any idea how many charities we give to, many of the very same - low-income communities you - blood money! Objection, your honor! - I am outraged by that.

Perhaps you could reserve some of your outrage for the fact that compared to whites, blacks have a 40% higher risk of death from heart disease, a 30% higher risk of death from cancer.

Maybe you could bristle over latinos suffering from high blood pressure, obesity, tuberculosis, diabetes, way more than whites.
