Honest Renovations (2023) s01e04 Episode Script

Single Mom First

-I'm Jessica. -I'm Lizzy.
[Jessica]
including your house.
Every day, I feel like I'm
failing.
[Lizzy]
We come in and help make your
home work for you.
Oh, my gosh!
[woman]
You need to be celebrated.
-[Koey]
-[Kaleigh]
-How are you? -I'm good.
-How are you? -I'm good.
My name is Koey and I'm from
Woodland Hills, California.
I'm a glam'ma.
Yay, good job!
I probably see Ashleigh
Her mom has no privacy, at all,
whatsoever.
And after outgrowing it, she
gifted it to me
and moved into a bigger and
better house.
The problem is, she left
everything.
I feel defeated, as a working
single mom,
I want to walk into a happy
house.
It's a little depressing.
-[Kaleigh] Mommy. -[Koey] Time
to eat.
Here.
[Jessica] This is Koey,
-single mom. -[Lizzy] Yep.
Now, she inherited this house
-from her older sister.
-Exactly, right?
[Lizzy] I'm just saying, this is
gonna be gold.
Is it crispy, like you like it?
Yeah.
[Koey] Can you use your Santa
cup?
[Kaleigh] I'm not a baby
anymore.
[knocking on door]
[Koey] Let me get the door. Stay
right here.
-Hi! -Oh, my God!
-Nice to meet you. -So nice to
meet you, too.
-Hello. -Oh, my gosh!
It's so good to be here. Look at
you,
looking like a ray of sunshine.
Thank you, that is my favorite
color.
So, we're in the kitchen.
Kaleigh is eating right now.
-Hi. -Hello.
This is Kaleigh.
-Hi, Kaleigh. -I'm Jessica.
Can I give you a hug?
-Nice to meet you. -Kaleigh, we
like hugs.
We like hugs.
-How old are you? -Five.
I thought you were seven for
sure.
-Oh, my. -[shared laughter]
Kaleigh is smart.
Lots of personality.
Self-taught.
Just overall amazing.
I'm almost taller than my mom.
-You look really tall. You do.
-[Lizzy gasps] Are you really?
[Lizzy] Let me see. Jump up.
Let's see.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah, for sure. You're
almost there.
-You're right there. -Almost
there.
You're right there.
So, this is where you guys do
most of your eating
-[Koey]
-[Lizzy]
This is where everyone gathers
around
[Koey]
Breakfast time I'm usually
this is mom.
-Right. -With my coffee.
Do you like sitting down with
your mommy
and having dinner time?
-Yeah. -Yeah.
[LIzzy] I like that time, too.
I think it's the best time of
the day.
-[Jessica] Me too. -Sister's
here.
She's gonna take you to school,
okay?
So cute.
Koey's a single mom.
And when you're working as a
single mom,
you're working as two parents,
And that's what I'm seeing in
Koey.
Koey is running on empty
and you know what she needs?
She needs to hit that reset
button
so she can fill up her cup
and love on herself a little
bit.
She's so cute. We were just
saying,
this is the age our little ones
are at too.
-Oh, is it really? Oh, okay.
-Like our youngest are both
-We both have -Almost five.
-Yeah, almost five. -Yeah.
Tell us about the home though.
-This home is from your sister.
-Yes.
-Tell us the story of that. -So,
my sister and I,
she's the oldest. She's the
firstborn.
So, when I turned 19, I became
her babysitter.
-Aw. -Okay.
And so now, she gifted me this
house.
-Wow. -And so I stayed here
-How long ago was that? -A year
and a half.
Okay, so it's still kind of a
new transition.
But it's exactly the way she
left it.
Wait a minute, is your sister's
stuff
I haven't touched a thing since
I
All this is
-is her stuff. -This is all her
stuff?
So, you still feel like you're
living inside of, like,
her her vision.
That's my biggest
That's my biggest gripe about
the house.
'Cause it's a good house.
-Right. -We could function in
it.
-No, it's a great house. -We do
function.
But it is just not my style.
This is where you guys eat.
I feel like storage is obviously
something that you're battling
with, right?
I mean, yeah.
So the problem with this kitchen
is
It's airy and it's light, but
it's beautiful.
-I agree. -I hear a lot of "us."
I hear a lot of "me and
Kaleigh,"
"me and Kaleigh," "me and
Kaleigh,"
-you know? Yeah. -I'm a single
mom.
It's my life, so
My mom was a single mom of
three.
I was raised by a single mom,
three kids, and I know
everything that went into
It is debilitating
how much pressure is on you as a
single parent.
And I think for Koey, I see
that.
I see that in her, I see her
struggle.
But I also see how much joy and
happiness she has
around her family and what she
has created.
And so for me, I just really
want
to give her something super
special.
It's hard to be everywhere
for everyone and also be all
things for everyone.
Yeah. It's exhausting.
-It's exhausting. -I'm sure.
Well, look, can we throw you a
party now?
You're gonna make me cry.
She is, of course, appreciative
for everything that her big
sister has given her,
and this is the time for her to
really sort of like,
come into her own and really
have her own identity.
And it be manifested in the
space that she's in.
[Jessica]
[Koey]
Can you imagine my bright
personality
coming into all of this brown?
-[Lizzy]
-Yeah. -Yeah.
Koey felt like this space was
soul-sucking.
That is such a harsh terminology
to use about your home.
-[Jessica] It's so dark.
-I can only imagine. -[Jessica]
Oh, my gosh,
can you imagine if you're like,
every time I go home,
this is soul-sucking.
Every time I walk in my home,
I feel like my soul is being
sucked out of my body.
-Nobody wants that. -That's a
horror movie.
A horror movie.
This is where all the action
happens.
-Everything. -So, this is work
space,
host space,
family time, chill out time.
And when you're in the kitchen
cooking,
Kaleigh's here, or is she in
there?
Yeah, she's here on the couch.
Now what about your bedroom?
Like, where's your space where
you--
Where no magic happens?
-Follow me down the hall. -Let's
do it. Let's do it.
-[Koey] This is my sanctuary.
-[Lizzy] Wow, okay.
This is a really great-sized
bedroom.
[Koey]
I'm single, she's by herself,
why not sleep together?
-Of course. -You know.
[Jessica]
[Koey]
-It's hard to start. -It's hard
to start.
Which again, I love the house.
I don't love the color.
[Lizzy]
[Koey]
But what's your favorite color?
-Yellow. This color yellow.
-[both exclaim]
And it's called sunshine yellow.
Just bringing happiness into my
world.
But do I want to sleep in a
yellow room?
I really don't know.
What we are trying to do for
Koey is.
to create a space
-[Lizzy]
[Jessica]
This home was set up for her
sister's family
which looks different.
We need to make a change for
Koey
so it's setup for her family.
Is there one thing in this house
that you love
that represents you?
-Oh, yeah, for sure. -You do?
There's one thing, yeah.
It was something that I got for
my birthday.
-Okay, show us. -Can you grab
it?
Okay, let me go and get it. I'll
be right back.
I can't wait to see.
Who do you think gave it to her?
I don't know. It's gotta be
someone she loves.
-[Koey] Are you guys ready?
-[both] Yeah, we're ready.
[Koey] Open your eyes.
-Oh, wow! -Oh, wow!
[both] I did not expect that.
[Koey]
-[Koey] Are you guys ready?
-[both] Yeah, we're ready.
-Okay, no, close your eyes. -All
right, you ready?
Open your eyes.
-Oh, wow! -Oh, wow!
-I did not expect that. -I know,
I know, I know, I know.
These are my favorite flowers.
And they're yellow, obviously.
The orange is bright
'cause I love bright colors.
My sister bought it for me.
-Oh, sister. -Oh, sister.
Put it in my room.
-I'm gonna be honest with you.
-[Koey] I know you guys
This is unexpected.
-I'm really surprised. -I did
not see this one coming.
I did not either.
Seeing the big sunflowers
And [sighs]
I don't know why that's making
me emotional.
Um to have somebody thinking
about me.
Um and so,
the way I felt when I saw that
vase
I don't talk about me so much. I
don't get that much attention
on me, so
And I get to keep it forever, as
along as it, you know
As a mom,
we're always doing everything
for everyone else.
I mean, it's just, sort of
what we do, right?
And it's really hard to take the
time for self-care.
When we are designing this space
for her,
I just want her to feel that
love and that self-care
-from two moms to another mom.
-That's right.
-We can relate. -We can totally
relate.
So let's just talk about
the house for a second and the
space.
So the space, today, right now,
is very
Claustrophobic. It's very dark.
It's very cave-like.
-She feels the same way. -Lots
of wood.
We need to bring in life, and
vitality.
And color.
So, just so we can reconfigure
ourselves
You walk in the house,
-you have this space, -Yeah.
I think we have to open this up.
[Lizzy] I agree.
[Jessica]
And then she has a pretty nice
sized closet,
a pretty big bathroom.
What she does have in this
bedroom though,
So, we're definitely gonna
touch this, but it's more an
aesthetic update.
It just feels very
claustrophobic.
Is that how they walk around?
That's how I walk around, like,
ugh
[Lizzy] Hello!
-Hi! -How are you?
Good!
Normally, when we move out a
family,
they go away for a few weeks,
we do what we do, we come in, we
change up the space,
and the family comes back.
For Koey, we're making a little
bit of an exception.
We're having Koey come back
because we noticed that Koey
just has an emotional attachment
to this space that she needs to
break.
This needs to become her space
and not her sister's.
Well, we have a surprise for you
actually.
We need you to help us
knock down this wall.
-Are you ready? -For real?
Yeah, we're gonna knock down
this wall.
-Oh, my God. Oh, my God. -Are
you ready to help us?
Yes, I'm ready.
Let's get you come gloves, some
glasses.
If one has never sledged a
hammer
Wait, is that a thing, sledged a
hammer?
Sledgehammered?
Sledged. Sledged the
sledgehammer.
It's a verb, why not? Yeah.
-Hammered? -Hammer a wall.
How would one go about holding
it?
Yeah, how does this work?
Okay. So, first,
this is a load-bearing wall
so they're gonna reframe this.
We're gonna shore it.
So for now, we're just taking
the drywall off
and we're gonna clear it out.
So try not to hit a stud.
The stud is every 16 inches
apart.
So you're gonna want to hit in
between them
All right, you should do the
inaugural
-hit. -Hit.
I feel all kinds of emotions.
I'm excited. Nervous.
-Go big or go home. -Ah,
goodness gracious.
Oh, my gosh. Here we go. I was
scared.
-Are you ready? -My wall.
Bye-bye.
-[cheers] -You feel good?
Yeah, that feels real good. I
can do it again?
A little frustration coming out.
Whoa! Wow!
-Yes, wow! -You are so strong!
-I could do this all day.
-Amazing!
Girl, you are getting your
workout! Yes!
You could see her with every
swing
claiming the space.
-Hundred percent. -It was so
cool to see.
It was really cool to see.
Maybe you can say
you can channel.
Here we go!
This is my house. This is my
space.
This is my house!
[Lizzy] Yes!
This is my space!
-Yes. -Nice!
-My house! -Yes!
-Yes. -Oh, wow!
-Yes. -[Tinku] There you go!
-Nice! -That was a good one.
It's brighter already.
-She is strong. -I'm telling
you.
-She was like -Boom!
-Boom! -Okay.
All right, now go ahead, Lizzy.
No, let's do it together.
You go. No, it's not gonna
have
a bunch of hammers going.
We got in there, except for um,
my first hit.
[Lizzy] Ooh, that's okay.
-I hit the stud. First hit. -Oh,
my gosh.
I was so nervous that it was
gonna bounce back in your face.
And my ears were ringing.
-I was like, "girl." -I was
trying to be cool.
-Hey! Yay! -Yes!
Someone's making up for it.
Tinku, help!
This is a lot cheaper than
therapy.
-[Lizzy] Whoa. Whoa -[Tinku]
Looks nice, doesn't it?
You've been to work.
-Clearly. Wow! -So? What do you
think?
[Lizzy] This is wild. This is
wild.
-It's a load-bearing wall.
-Okay.
So this is just to keep
everything upright.
We're just supporting it until
we put in the new beams.
-Okay. So, these are temporary.
-Yep.
Got it. Okay.
So I love that for her and I
think
-she's gonna really enjoy that.
-These look nice.
Why did we put this up? What's
this for?
We were thinking that,
if you want to put cabinets all
the way around,
we can make this wall straight.
The only issue becomes,
that door is now gone to get to
the backyard.
-Ah! -So
All right. So then that means
that we do need doors
to go outside.
It would be great for her to
have some sort of access here.
What can we do with this window?
[Tinku]
And it's standard. It's
basically a standard size.
Yeah, standard size will be
fine.
Awesome. I'm with that. I like
that.
[Jessica] I'm so excited!
[Lizzy] Are you so happy to see
this house?
[Jessica] I know.
[Lizzy] Wow! Beams on beams on
beams.
-This looks great, guys!
-[Jessica] Yeah.
Oh, it's freezing.
Oh, yeah, I mean, this is
perfect
construction site attire.
Well, you know,
I just wanted to make sure I was
nice and cozy and warm.
There you go. Well, you achieved
that.
You're wearing a blanket. So,
that's nice.
It looked like you came from
church.
You came from church
-straight to demo-day, okay. -I
was wearing
I was wearing a onesie
underneath.
-With your church coat on. -But
I was cold.
-This beam looks so good, guys!
-[Jessica] It looks amazing.
-Thank you so much. -Wow!
-It opens up the whole space.
-This is wild.
I want to take these thingies
down
'cause these were the support
wall.
These are our temporary walls.
'Cause this won't be here.
Well, now that the beam is up,
we can take these down.
Oh, don't hit his kneecaps.
Could you imagine if she hit
Sammy's kneecaps?
[Tinku] I know.
She's weirdly uncoordinated.
I'm so
Literally, this is the one who's
like this.
Oh, my gosh. What are you doing?
I did all the work.
-I took all the beams down. -Are
you kidding me?
Are you kidding me? You took all
the supports down?
Mhm.
Oh, oh, oh, oh.
-I was really good at it. -Get
outta here.
Okay.
I don't know what to say.
You've got skills, homie.
Okay, I have a question.
So, everyone has to deal with
these doors
that are in their house that
have like, water heaters.
Or have like, you need an access
panel.
And that's essentially what this
is.
Um, how can we freak this and
make it cute?
This water heater is gonna give
me a
literally, a panic attack.
I don't think we expected
it to be such a visual eyesore.
I'm wondering. Do we need to
have,
-this like, aggressive hinge?
-Nope. We do hidden hinges.
[Jessica] We can do a hidden
hinge.
I can play with it and see what
it looks like.
I haven't done it before, so
If I use thick enough plywood,
with the hinges
-It might be able to work.
-Isn't this our relationship?
You haven't done it before and
we are pushing you
to do something new. There you
go.
I do need help with the tile
actually.
We still have some left and I
think you can do that.
That shouldn't be too bad.
-Okay. -What do you think?
All right, I'm down.
-Yeah? Okay. -Let's do it.
No power tools are needed.
-Okay, good. -Great.
[Lizzy] Even though I love a
power tool.
I already did all the supports
on the walls
so Jessica can get in there and
do the tiling,
in her church coat.
It's just cozy.
Lizzy is just giving me a hard
time.
This, right, Sammy?
Yeah. Put more.
[Jessica] Yeah, that's not
nearly enough, Lizzy.
Put bunch of-- look, put bunch
of it.
A bunch, Lizzy.
Lizzy, you have a supervisor
right above you.
-Just so you're aware. -I know.
Thank you.
Like this?
Yeah. More, more, more.
Sammy, did she really whip it
together?
-Yeah. -Yes, I did.
-You have to put more on it.
-This is great.
[Jessica] Just more.
[Lizzy] How far?
Like from here to here. All
this.
[Jessica] Like a lot, sister.
-All this square. -[Jessica]
Like a lot.
-Do you wanna do this? -No, I
wanna watch you.
-I can actually drop it. -He's
so frustrated with you.
[Tinku] Yeah, he's like, let me
just do it for you.
He's just gonna dump the bucket
'cause you're
Oh, my God. Sammy, are you
serious?
-It's that much? -[Jessica] Yes.
-Wow. Whoa! -He's so irritated
with you.
-Whoa! Okay. -Look, it's like a
big horse.
Go to this line. And go to the
other line.
It's just it's a little
sloppy.
-Yeah, right. I do a great job.
-A little sloppy. Sure.
You better be quiet before I
nail gun you.
Like, just smooth it like a cake
batter?
Yeah, just like smooth-- Oh, no.
No.
-That's not good. -Nope. That
wasn't the move.
Sammy came up to me and said,
-"You did amazing work." -Lies.
He didn't do that.
"You are awesome.
You did amazing work.
Good job."
Maybe in your dreams that night.
Let me try.
[Sammy] Take this tile and put
it in the center of this one.
-In the center? -Center. Center.
Okay. Now, get this.
[Jessica] How do you feel about
my skills, Sammy?
Very nice. It looks good.
You've got another one to put.
Sammy, I think she got this.
You wanna give her that tile and
I think we can go.
Just leave my tea.
Your tea is here.
Here we go.
You know what that should be
called?
The Alba.
It's a technique.
One, two, three.
-Guess we're good. -Feeling good
about myself.
Ten more to go,
but you're gonna have to cut
them.
-I don't want to cut. -Those
pieces need to be cut.
I feel a little overwhelmed.
I think you should do the rest.
I will do the rest.
-Will you? -Yeah.
Yay!
I thought I was good at the
tiling.
Hmm.
Remember, I got you for dinner.
I will come.
-I did a great job. -Hmm.
Whatever.
Joe, take it out, clean it up.
-[Jessica] Look at the wall.
-[Lizzy] This is awesome.
I was just so happy that we got
rid of that
giant, weird furniture.
I was just like, "Why?"
You have nowhere to go. And it
was just like,
these big, bulky, brown pieces.
[Lizzy] The space before, in
this room,
it was not her vibe, at all.
And so we want to create more of
a Queendom for Koey.
We want this to be her space
that she can retreat to.
It is her vibes only.
We have to really nail down
exactly the wallpaper.
-Right? -Yellow.
-Neutral. -Yeah.
-Boring. -That's boring.
She loves yellow. This is life.
-Yeah. Yeah. -It's colorful.
-I just don't like all this. -It
feels too tropical.
-It does. -It feels too Hawaii.
It feels like she's in a jungle.
But this
Feels like, sophisticated.
Do these not look like crowns?
Yeah, it's regal.
Let's put this up on the wall.
Here. Let me Let me cut a
piece.
[Lizzy] Okay. I'm trying to hold
it.
My body was holding it.
Should we cut it Maybe,
should we go to the top
and cut it so that at least it's
usable?
Oh, I don't think we should cut
it.
Yeah, let's Let's cut it.
-Hmm. -[Jessica] Yeah.
-Like, that long? -[Lizzy
groans]
Just bear with me.
It's my soul ripping into two,
because you didn't measure
before you cut wallpaper.
It's gonna be nearly there.
I think it's gonna feel really
elegant
-and really sexy -Yes.
and really just, like,
heaven.
-Just heaven. -Just heaven.
Just right there, heaven.
Oh, this is so pretty.
It's gonna be queen vibes all
day.
-Yeah. -A Queendom.
You know, remember this
fireplace
was kind of like, just, blah?
Blah.
[Jessica] I mean, the whole room
was brown and brown.
She had incredible energy
and we want this space to feel
like her.
-Let's do this. -So,
you want to do a Venetian
plaster, right?
-That's what you want to do?
-That's what it's called.
You'll just take a little bit
out.
Do I need gloves for this?
-No, I think you're fine. -Okay,
great.
-So, you'll spread on. -Okay.
And you'll put it on nice and
even.
As much as you can.
Do I get my own spackle?
So, after she hits it once,
you can smooth it out with this
one.
Show me how to do that.
[Jessica] Okay.
I like that you still haven't
put the coffee down.
I'm just gonna like, get my
energy,
like, really even and balanced.
Your energy is what helps to
spackle?
-[Tinku] Yeah. -My chakras are
balanced.
-Lizzy's not here bothering me.
-As long as your chakra
As long as your chakras help,
that's all that matters.
Can you Can you enlist all of
your chakras to actually help?
[Tinku] At least one person that
actually
is still working, I think we're
good.
[Jessica] I need more.
[Lizzy] You understand I just
did all this down here
and you can't let it dry.
-I know, but I need more here.
-You're ruining it.
I need more in the corner.
If you really get into it, use
your legs, Jess.
It's just when I get tight.
Maybe it's because you have your
winter coat on.
You really come ready to work,
you know?
Do you know that my
It's really great.
Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow!
You shouldn't be that hurt yet.
You know what, I've been doing
stunts
since I was 17.
[Lizzy] Excuses, excuses.
And my knees.
I doubt that's the reason that
your knees are bad.
[chuckling]
And they're here!
-Yay! -Hi!
-We're here to save the day.
-Papo!
-Look at this surprise! -[Koa]
Hello!
I think it's such a great idea
to bring in original art pieces
rather than buying something
that's, you know,
-you can buy at any store.
-[Lizzy] Right.
Hello! We are so excited you're
here.
There's so many incredible
artists out there
-There are. -and I just
happen to be
related to two of 'em.
-Somehow. -Go figure.
Oh, these are beautiful!
My father-in-law, he does all of
this really amazing
photography and makes these
prints.
-[Michael] You said sunflower.
-[Jessica] Yeah.
So I went looking for things
that I've done
as sunflower motif.
Being able to tie in her love
for sunflowers
will be such a special touch
because we saw firsthand the
true joy they bring her.
I can't think of anyone better
than my father-in-law, Michael
Warren,
to make a custom piece of art.
It's just gonna make her feel so
seen.
-[Lizzy] I instantly love these.
-[Michael] Those two?
I love, like the fact that we're
not looking at the full flower,
so it's the essence of the
flower.
There's something about
-[Lizzy] Say it. Uh huh.
-this,
that's giving me something.
'Cause I also like a little bit
of this like, blue and stuff.
Right. I think what we're
envisioning
is that Papo, his art is gonna
be pretty big.
It's gonna be what, like a
40x60?
Yeah, it's gonna be like a big
piece in the entryway.
Like, right when you walk in.
So it'll be a pretty big focal
of the space.
If his has the yellow
does-- could yours have more of
the blue in it?
Blues. Yeah.
That rich blue color.
And then, Koa, my sister-in law,
she's been doing all kinds of
art.
And she's gonna do a special
piece for the family room, too.
Hanging art in your home is a
good way
to bring your personality into
your space.
Koa, can e create a little box
or something
that goes over this so that
focal of this wall
is the artwork?
That definitely feels doable,
-like, we put -[Lizzy] Thank
you.
It's like a thing here you screw
into it
-and it sits, and yeah -Oh,
my God.
Can we just have Koa on the show
from now on?
Because, thank you!
I understand her ideas.
She speaks my language.
Finally. Finally, someone who
gets me.
This is great.
Before, when we saw the space,
it was dark
-and brown, and dreary. -Yeah,
and dreary.
And now we're gonna walk into
this space
and see these beautiful pieces
of art.
Beautifully designed.
Nice and open and airy.
And it's gonna feel more like
her personality.
I think it's gonna be
incredible.
-Are we done? -I think so.
-Time to go to work. -[Jessica]
Love you so much.
-[Lizzy] Love you so much.
-[Michael] Love you, too.
Excuse me. Excuse me.
Can somebody get the door for
me, please?
[Jessica] I'll get the door for
you.
[Lizzy] Get your daddy. Love
you!
All right.
-See you guys! -Bye, guys!
-Bye. -Bye.
Watch your step! Watch your
step!
-I can't. -All right.
Scene!
[Lizzy] I'm so excited to be
back.
[Dabito] Yes, I know. They
have
[Lizzy] You think they'll have
some newer things?
[Dabito] Oh, they always have
good stuff.
I'm meeting my friend, Dabito,
today
at Sunbeam Vintage
to pick out new furniture for
Koey's bedroom.
Koey's space and her furniture
before
in her bedroom was bulky, it was
brown,
it just wasn't her style.
So, we're on the hunt for pieces
that are unique
and one-of-a-kind pieces that
fit into her bedroom.
Koey is our single mom
and she's amazing, she really
is.
She's so strong. Vibrant.
We really want to lean into her
queen vibes.
This is kind of a very similar
color
of her bedroom.
-Rich, royal colors. -Yeah,
rich.
She loves like, um, golds and
yellows.
-We're gonna create a Queendom.
-Yes.
Here's the thing about vintage
furniture.
You'll never see a piece like it
in your friend's home
so you'll get one-of-a-kind
pieces.
They already come already made,
which is a bonus.
They're great for the
environment
because you're just helping
support pieces
that have already been made.
And it's just really quality
pieces that you're getting
at an affordable price.
And you can't beat that.
[Dabito] How do we feel about
this dresser?
This is a little too small.
[Lizzy] It feels more desky than
like
[Dabito] Yeah, this is like
for
-It's like flat files. Artwork.
-Yeah, exactly.
So, that's not gonna work.
[Lizzy] This one is interesting.
[Dabito] But it feels like it's
hard to open,
so that's not practical.
And we need more intricate
details.
Yeah, something that tells a
little bit more of a story.
-This one is really cool. -Yes.
You know what the hardware is?
It's very Wonder Woman.
Oh, we're talking about strong.
Well, there's another great
piece behind you.
-[gasps] This one is -This is
kind of cool.
[Dabito] I love the ripple
effect on the front.
[Lizzy] Kind of gives you that
-mixed, almost wood-marble feel.
-Right.
This gives that talk.
You just can't find this kind of
stuff out there.
I mean, that's why I shop
vintage.
It's like one-of-a-kind and you
don't have to assemble.
[Lizzy] Or buy.
-That's why. -We did that.
[Lizzy] This is for Koey. She's
a single mom.
[Jessica] Yes, single mom.
I feel like, for her,
I think we should lean really
heavy into
-Spa moment. Beauty. -Yes. Yes.
-Self care. -Yes.
-Let's do it. Okay. -All that.
We have some soaking salts.
[Lizzy] I love the salts.
We have some A candle. Why
not?
[Lizzy] I love the candle.
-All right. -Cute.
And a little bubble bath.
-Why not? -Nice!
Maybe some
cleaning products that she can
refill.
Grab some of those
-with the refills. Okay.
-Awesome.
[Lizzy] I think I need another
basket.
[Jessica] I know. All right.
[Lizzy] This is so different
from the last time she saw it.
[Jessica] Let's put Papo's
painting up.
-I love that we landed here. -Me
too.
Each sunflower represents a
family member.
I know, which I think is so
great
-including her grandson, -Yep.
which is sweet.
[Lizzy] Let's put up Koa's
painting, too, then.
Wow, this is so legit.
It's like watery and cloudy. I
don't know. It's like
It's like she took exactly what
we wanted
[Jessica] It's like, it's
wonderful.
[Lizzy] And made it work.
[Jessica] I think a nice hack
for people is
we're using two main colors in
here.
We're doing like, that yellowy
marigold.
And then, we're also using like,
blues and they're in the same
tone.
And then we have black and white
to kind of
that becomes a neutral.
That you can mix with those two
really bold colors.
So, I'm inspired to clean this
space.
Oh, you're gonna energy purify
up in here.
I'm bringing in some white sage.
You're bringing in the big boys
up in here. Okay.
I feel like we need to have like
some chakra healing music.
[Lizzy] Oh, really? 'Cause I was
totally thinking like Jazz.
And R&B. I don't know.
We went two totally different
ways there.
Old, stale, negative energy, we
welcome you to leave.
You do not need to be here.
-[Lizzy] You ready? -[Jessica]
Okay.
I gotta hold her hand, right? I
gotta hold her hand, too.
That's right.
We're just like a sisterhood.
Oh, is that-- Mommy's so
excited.
I am. I am. It's so crazy.
I am so ready to see my house.
-Kaleigh, are you so excited?
-Yes.
We cannot wait for you to see
this.
On a scale of one to ten, I'm at
like in the hundred.
One hundred.
[Jessica] Are you ready?
Welcome home!
Oh, my God!
[Jessica] Are you ready?
Welcome home!
Oh, my God!
[Koey] Oh, my God!
-Wow! -Oh, my God!
Oh, my God!
-[Ashleigh] Wow! -[Koey] Oh, my
God!
I have died and gone to heaven.
Walking in, it was just an
overwhelming joy
that I could've never created
myself.
Is yellow mom's favorite color?
Yeah.
[both] What do you guys think?
This is amazing. Amazing.
Amazing.
[Koey]
[Lizzy]
[Koey]
That picture on the wall over
there,
oh, my God. Oh, my God!
[Koey] And I swear to you
as a kid, I always wanted like,
a breakfast nook like this.
And I didn't even tell you guys
that I wanted it.
So this was perfect.
Like, hit the nail on the head
with this one.
Like, is that perfect?
[Lizzy] Wow!
I don't know where I am. This is
not Kansas anymore.
[Koey] This is nothing I
could've ever imagined.
Like, I was like,
"What are they gonna do with
this small kitchen?"
It doesn't even look like the
same house.
-I know. -Like, I don't even--
No.
This makes us really, really
happy.
Insane.
[Lizzy] Is anything here missing
that you remember there?
I was looking, but I
[Lizzy] Now there's a full door.
Yeah.
So now, you can actually
enter and exit when you have
people over.
When I tell you I don't
recognize this space,
you guys, like, transformed it
completely.
[Lizzy] And we still wanted to
give you an island,
so this is also moveable.
So, if you do have people over
and you want this to be clear
-It is? -[Jessica] Yeah.
Well, it's not stuck to the
ground.
[Koey] It's not like, super
heavy like the last one?
It's like a dance floor in my
kitchen.
That's right, yeah. Get down,
girl, yeah.
I love it.
There was a water heater, right?
[Lizzy] It's in there.
-[Jessica] So, we hid it.
-[Lizzy] We hid it.
[Lizzy] It was a big thing for
us.
[Jessica] And you still need to
get access to it
just in case you need to get to
it.
So, these are removable
shelves
-And these are doors. -And these
are doors.
And we just put a paneling over
it.
-No way. -So, you can still open
them
and get access to the water
heater.
This is on wheels. So it just
Moves right out of the way.
I mean, to be honest with you, I
think it's a genius hack
in any eyesore of a moment of a
space in a kitchen,
a bedroom, anything in your
house.
[Jessica] You put a floating
shelf in front
and it just looks like a wall.
No one knows there's a door
behind there.
Right. We love a hidden moment.
Can I tell you my favorite thing
about this gallery wall?
Everything for me.
I was like, there's this huge
thing there,
how are we gonna have a
beautiful gallery wall?
And so, we came up with an idea
to cover it. And it's still
really easy.
This represents-- Hello?
One, two, three.
[Koey] As soon as I walked in, I
saw that.
[Lizzy] This is you guys.
[Jessica] Okay, we have one more
surprise.
Are you ready?
I am so nervous.
I don't know if I can handle
anymore.
-[Lizzy] You got this. -This is
your sanctuary.
[Lizzy] Now this is your space.
Oh, my God! Oh, my God!
-[Ashleigh] Wow! -[Koey] Oh, my
goodness!
[Jessica] So, we really wanted
you to feel
like a queen.
We wanted to celebrate you.
We feel like you have been
through so much in life.
You always sacrifice so much for
other people.
And we wanted you to have your
space,
your sanctuary, your place to
This is gorgeous.
I could wake up to this
everyday.
I'm not getting out of bed. What
job?
What?
[Jessica] And the furniture's
beautiful and unique
but it's right for this room.
It's not bulky, it's not
overpowering.
It's space.
-You can breathe. Yeah. -I can
breathe.
This piece right here is a
one-of-a-kind.
-Uh, this is a vintage piece.
-It's a vintage piece, yeah.
You guys knew.
Well, the house was lacking your
touch,
your vibe, and your energy.
-Jinx. You know. -100 percent.
100 percent, so
Should we, um
Let's go back into the other
room.
In this crazy, busy world of
mine,
having this space and wanting to
be home more,
means more family time.
I love it.
And I know my daughters love it.
And I know that just having a
space that we're comfortable in,
we're gonna try to create more
memories in this house.
We have another surprise.
-[Koey] Another surprise? -Yes.
Hi, guys!
Hi!
This is my father-in-law,
Michael Warren.
And my sister-in-law, Koa
Warren.
-My Papo, Michael -Nice to
meet you.
he did the sunflower for you.
-[Koey] Stop it. -[Jessica] And
Koa
painted this one for you.
I absolutely love it. Thank you
so much.
Don't you start crying, 'cause
I'll start crying.
I know, right?
[Jessica] Here is your parting
gifts from us.
Here's cleaning things and
obviously
-bath and body. -Some self-care
moments for you.
[Koey] You keep saying that I
need that.
I love it.
That's what it's about.
[Jessica] And then, we put
together this little
like, crystal, sage, and palo
santo.
I love Koey so much.
I love her energy.
I love the vibe.
She's had so much life
and I feel like this is the time
for her where she can be
her own self
separate from her sister.
And really have her own
identity.
Yeah. She wants to fly, baby.
Fly.
It feels good to my soul.
-Aw. -We love it.
This is what I needed.
Like, I need-- everybody needs
to walk into their home
and feel like, relaxed.
Like, you want to come home, so.
That is very true.
That's how I'm gonna feel
walking into this door,
every day.
That makes us feel so special.
You made it happen. So, thank
you so much.
