Killing Time (2010) s01e04 Episode Script
Episode 4
Can't let your mind go over the wall.
There's nothing over the wall.
It's dead.
It's gone.
Oh, you reckon they taste better? Euch! They're disgusting.
Mmm.
Yeah, I know, but you can't stop eating them.
Yes, you can.
You just have to try.
Mum, I need a drink.
Mmm.
I'm not surprised.
It's all the salt.
Come on.
Alright.
See how you go with that.
Thanks.
Yeah.
Yeah, I've started running again.
Oh, good.
You're looking very sexy today, my dear.
Don't, Fraser.
No, you're just looking nice.
That's all I'm saying.
Have you got money? Don't worry about us.
Yeah, I want to.
You're not there, Fraser.
You're just not there.
Mail's here.
If you want it, collect it now.
Come here, you little dickhead.
OK, come over here.
I want to show you something, mate.
He is dead.
All I was saying was that when Dennis was around I don't give a shit how Dennis did things.
You do it my way or you can piss off and find another family to bludge off.
A little respect, Victor.
Fraser.
You look good, mate, all dressed up.
You look like a seal.
You mean a penguin.
Piss off.
Yeah, I'm going to the opera, mate.
Oh, the opera.
Lovely.
Mmm.
Not before I've had an opportunity to tell you how it's gonna be.
Bullshit, mate.
It had a a locking device.
Crap, mate.
It's just a regular VL.
Mate, Commodores are the easiest car in the world to knock off.
You're just shit at hot-wiring, mate.
Fuck off.
Hey.
Who's the wanker? Den's lawyer, mate.
Take a seat, Fraser.
So, um Where's all my brother's bloody money gone, eh? You said that you helped him set up a company.
Yeah, yeah, that's right.
But, um Look, as of yesterday, mate, the cops seized all his cash and his jewellery as proceeds of crime.
Really? All the cash, Frase? Yeah, the rest went up his arms.
I don't bloody know.
Are you trying to tell me all the money Dennis was making, there's not a single cent left in his company? Victor, Victor, mate I can bring the books over and you can have a look at 'em, if you like.
Yeah, we will.
OK.
Yeah, good.
Because we're starting to make a few changes round here, mate.
We're getting out of the drugs business.
We were making good money, Victor.
Yeah, we're getting out of the drugs business, and, uh, we're, um Diversifying.
Exactly.
And I'd like to know one bloody good reason that we should continue to pay you anything from now on.
- Fraser's been loyal to this family.
- Really? The last time he defended me, I got four years.
Come on.
Jesus Christ himself, mate, couldn't have got you off those charges.
And listen, Dennis, Dennis did not spend one day inside while I was looking after him, OK? That's right.
You know the Robbers are fitting Victor up for that post office job? Which I didn't do.
What kind of a knob would knock over a post office, right? Can you get him off? Well, you know there's no guarantees in law, Wendy, but I could have a look at it.
Tell you what I'll do, Fraser.
I'll give you one last shot.
OK? You defend me, take on this case, get me off, sweet.
We'll go back to business as usual.
Yeah, after we've checked the books.
OK.
But, um I got to tell you, if you screw it up and you send me back to jail Rightio, OK.
Good to see youse.
Oh, the king is dead.
God help his lawyer.
Did I see you crying in the last act? Oh, maybe.
Oh.
A man who cries at the opera and swears at the football.
Oh, I sometimes tear up at the footy.
That would have to go.
What? That.
Hey, that's a Norman Lindsay.
Mmm.
Gee, you're funny you drag me off to the opera, then you become all working-class over a few nudes.
Oh, come on, look at it.
Screams 'dirty old man'.
Who? What, me or Norman Lindsay? Oh, take your pick.
Hang on.
What, are you threatening to move in? Well, I was thinking about it.
Ah, whacko! There you go.
Well, you know, I'd It's closer to my work, and I'd save some money.
But there'd have to be a few changes.
You'd have to let me put up some new pictures.
Deal.
Put up whatever you like.
Go for it.
Wall's yours.
Trial basis only.
And best behaviour.
Best.
Better than best, I promise you.
Oh! Wow.
Look at this.
Mmm.
You know what? Mm? I reckon we're a bloody good unit.
Oh.
A unit.
Yeah.
What's wrong with 'couple'? Oh Aww.
'Couple' gets stuck in your throat, does it? No, come on.
You know what I mean.
You know, unit, couple, lovers.
It's all good, don't you reckon? Yeah.
It is.
Mr Connor was apprehended outside the State Bank St Kilda branch yesterday afternoon.
Found in his possession was a sawn-off shotgun, silk stockings, rope, gloves and a crowbar.
All the equipment necessary for his intended robbery.
Your Honour, I hardly think the police prosecutor has the ability to read my client's mind.
No more presumptions, thank you, Detective Schneider.
The Crown strongly opposes bail on the grounds that the defendant is a repeat offender with 12 prior convictions, Your Honour.
This is not a one-off.
And I'm sure even Mr Fraser won't dispute that.
The, uh, prosecutor's correct in regards to my client's prior convictions.
However, the more important fact is that on all of those convictions, not once has my client skipped bail.
I repeat, not once has he skipped bail.
All the prosecutor's proven is that my client has an unblemished record when it comes to appearing at trial.
For my client's safety, I still must insist that bail be set.
Safety? Yes, Your Honour.
Have a look at my client's face.
While never destined to grace a magazine cover, he was perfectly fine until he was arrested.
You know, this sort of brutality has become part of the Armed Robbery's modus operandi.
It is abhorrent and a disgrace, and it should be brought to book.
Mate, I don't give a shit if some bitch starts giving birth.
You just keep the gun in her face until me and Graeme get out, alright? Get on the floor, you Get down! Shut up! Shut up and roll over! Hurry, guys.
Let's go! Guys! Keep your head down, freaks! Let's go! Let's go! Let's go! Don't anyone get up! Yes! Drive! Go! Whoo-hoo! How'd it go? Bloody clockwork! Yes! Anyone get hurt? Nope.
What about Jedd and Gary? Everyone's sweet.
So, uh, when we divvy up? Noon Friday.
Tullamarine Hotel.
Don't be late.
I'll see youse.
Righto, mate.
Oh, God, look at that little arse.
Come over here.
Not now, Victor.
Come on, you know I want it after a job.
Now get over here! Wait.
Wait, wait, wait.
What?! Oh, God.
You want it like that, do ya? So who am I? You're my dirty Robin Hood.
That's right.
No description beyond height, clothing and they were carrying sawn-off shotties.
They were in and out in about three minutes.
Pros.
We got a witness who saw the getaway car.
A blue Commodore.
Stolen.
This all feels very bloody familiar.
Fraser's home.
G'day, darl.
Well Yeah, that's right.
just to hand with Sharon McKenzie.
The three bandits stormed into the bank and threatened customers and staff with shotguns.
The thieves were wearing boilersuits and balaclav as.
Earlier.
I spoke to Detective Alex Schneider from the Armed Robbery Squad.
We have a number of witnesses and a lead on the vehicle.
Oh, you dickhead.
So it's only a matter of time before these violent perpetrators are hunted down.
The stolen Commodore used in the armed robbery w as later found abandoned in Templestowe.
You satisfied? Yeah, well, it's a funny thing, Fraser.
You're always boasting how you managed to keep Dennis out of jail, but, uh, couldn't seem to keep his cash away from the jacks.
Yeah, well, it's the law, Victor.
Oh, yeah? Well, how much is this post office case gonna cost us? It's a committal hearing to see if they've got enough evidence to go to trial.
There can't be any evidence, mate, because I didn't do it.
What have they got? Uh, they've got a photo of Victor's thumbprint on the post office counter.
Well, it's not mine.
I always wear gloves.
The Robber Squad have got it in for us, that's what it is.
You make them look like bloody idiots.
That's why.
Yeah, well, that's not hard.
Hey, um Dennis kept me on retainer so I was available to him day and night.
A retainer, mate? Yeah.
You got to be kidding, don't you? That's money for nothing.
You can forget about that.
Didn't he use to pay you in drugs? Absolutely not.
But I've heard you like a bit of toot, though, right? Jesus Christ.
Don't know if I'm happy about being represented by a cokehead.
He's due in court Friday 10:00, OK? Send us your bill or whatever it is you do.
Yeah.
OK.
I'll see you then, OK? That'll be $5, thank you.
There we are.
Thank you.
Next, thanks.
Can I help you? No.
Thanks, love.
Let's go! Don't be a fucking hero! I'm sick and tired of making excuses for why we can't catch these bastards.
We're looking like bloody idiots.
Now, has anyone got anything? Get onto your snitches.
Work 'em over.
Oh, fuck me.
Get me anything.
Anything.
Just get me something.
Well, at least we can nail Victor Peirce for that post office job.
That might shut everyone up.
There's no positive identification of any witnesses at the scene of the crime.
None of the stamps stolen have been recovered.
In fact, the only evidence, the only evidence, that the prosecution can produce at this hearing is a single thumbprint.
A single thumbprint supposedly left by the perpetrator on the edge of the counter as they leapt over it.
Detective Schneider, this is an enlargement of the photograph taken at the scene, is it not? That's correct.
Your Honour, if you'll permit, I'd like to make a small demonstration with the help of Detective Schneider.
- It won't take a moment.
- If you must.
Detective Schneider, could you please assist me by stepping down and placing yourself on the other side of my assistant's desk? Detective, please do as Mr Fraser asked.
Now, with the court's indulgence, I'd like us all to imagine for a moment that this is the post office counter on which the thumbprint was supposedly found.
Was found.
And I'm the post office clerk and you, Detective Schneider, are the perpetrator of the armed robbery.
But first, um could you could you please show me where the thumbprint was supposedly found? Well, this table's a lot smaller than the post office counter.
That's right, but for the purposes of this demonstration, that's irrelevant.
Could you please show me where the thumbprint was found? Right.
And how do you think it got there? Well, it's pretty simple.
When the accused jumped over the counter, he held it like this.
Oh, right.
And then he used his hand to then leap over the counter, did he? Correct.
Alright.
Leaving no other fingerprints on the counter? No discernible fingerprints.
Oh, right.
Right.
There's a couple of problems with that theory, Detective.
If I can draw your attention once more to the photograph, and you'll see here that we have the ledge of the counter and here we have the print with the thumbprint pointing outwards, which means in order for the person to have left their print there, they would have had to have grabbed the counter like this, which means it's absolutely impossible for them to then hold onto the ledge and then leap over it.
Your Honour, I submit to the court that it's impossible that the print was left there by a vaulting robber.
In fact, I doubt that it was even left by a legitimate customer.
The only reasonable conclusion that we can come to here is that the Armed Robbery Squad is having a lend of us.
They're having us on.
That's a very serious accusation, Mr Fraser.
I stand by it, Your Honour.
Oh, you really are a smart bastard after all, Fraser.
Yeah, well, I'm smarter than those bloody bastards anyway.
I told you Fraser would do right by you.
Well? Thanks, mate.
Not a problem, matey.
Thanks.
We'll get you, Peirce.
You can bet on that.
Hey, did you hear that? Armed Robbery are threatening my client.
Boss.
Boss.
A security bloke's just been shot dead.
Dominic Hefti.
Looks like the shooter was wounded.
Forensics are getting a sample now.
He snaffled 33 grand.
Two witnesses.
Perp, medium build, overalls, balaclava.
Flemington Crew.
It was a handgun, not a shotty.
There was only one of 'em.
Doesn't bloody matter.
We reckon that's Victor Peirce or Graeme Jensen.
It's a male in a balaclava.
It reeks of Peirce's MO from before he did time.
And they always use a Commodore.
Gary Abdallah's vehicle of choice.
Yeah.
You know Victor, don't you? Not really.
I ran his brother Dennis.
Victor's a whole different nightmare.
Since Dennis dropped off the twig, the arse has fallen out of the family drug business.
Victor was never one for drugs.
Well, I've had a gutful.
Brass are on my case, bloody media.
I want to put the wind up him.
Right.
Copper from the Richmond squad told one of me girls they're about to knock youse.
Really? Where's Graeme? Oh, let's get a bloody hotel room next time.
Who says there'll be a next time? Have a look at this.
A few more jobs and I'm off.
I'm gonna get one of these with me share.
What do you know about sailing? What's to know? Ropes and wind and shit.
We could go to the Gold Coast together.
Bali.
Tahiti.
Wherever we bloody well want.
What about my kids? Well, they can come too.
Oh, yeah.
Victor would like that.
Oh, stuff Victor.
What's he gonna do? Hey, where you been? Graeme drove me down the shop to get some smokes.
Really? Well, guess what.
Armed Robbery's told Kath that they're going to put a hit on us.
They're just trying to scare us.
They can't even catch us.
They're calling you the Flemington Crew.
I don't even fuckin' live in Flemington.
Oh, well, great, mate.
I'll just give 'em a call and say, "Graeme says we're not the Flemington Crew, "we're the Nar Nar Goon Crew.
" Vic, ease up for a bit.
If they know who you are, they'll be watching ya.
Yeah.
Yeah, she's right.
What the fuck are you two on about? You think I don't know what's going on? Think I'm fuckin' dumb, do ya?! I know what these pricks are trying to do, mate, and I will be the one who decides when and if we give up or ease up.
No-one else.
Got it? OK, well, buck up, KC.
That was just the committal, mate.
When we put the facts before a real flesh-and-blood jury, we'll have a better chance.
How much better? Oh, not so good, you know.
All I've got at the moment, mate, is your innocent dial and my imagination.
Can't do time, Mr Fraser, I just can't.
Hey, look, mate, I'll do my best, but they've got five witnesses.
All bloody detectives who saw you outside the bank.
See you in three weeks.
OK, mate.
I'll see you in three.
Victor doesn't know we're talking to you, alright? OK.
A cop from the Richmond squad told one of me girls they're gonna knock Victor.
They're saying he killed that security guard.
It weren't him.
They're just saying that to bloody provoke you.
It's the only way they know how.
Well, talk to 'em.
I don't think they're gonna listen to me.
You're a bloody lawyer, mate.
Listen.
I've already lost one son.
I'm not gonna lose another.
They're bloody animals, Victor.
You know they'll do it.
Oh, I'm not scared of them.
They're just trying to wind us up.
We've got heaps of money now anyway.
Why can't you just quit for a while? Oh, God, will you shut up? No, fuck ya.
You're no good to me or the kids if you're dead.
It's 'cause of that security guard.
I didn't kill no security guard.
They're just looking for an excuse.
Yeah, that's what Fraser said.
What? What did you just say? No, just what you said.
Looking for an excuse to knock you.
You just said "Fraser said".
Are you seeing that prick lawyer behind my back? Course I'm bloody not! Don't you ever lie to me.
OK? I went and saw him with your mum 'cause we were worried about the message the cops sent you, you prick! Really? Well, guess what.
I don't need a lawyer's help dealing with the cops.
I've got them exactly where I want them, OK? And if you ever go behind my back again, I will fuckin' kill you! Do you understand me? Do ya? Third time this week.
And they've always parked the car a block away so they have to pass the bank.
We'll get these bastards.
It's only a matter of time.
Hello, handsome.
Jeez, Denise.
What are you doing here? I just had a meeting around the corner at the AMU.
And I've had a bugger of a morning.
Yeah? Yeah.
3-hour meeting that went nowhere.
So I thought I'd come and see you.
Oh, darling, your timing's not very good.
I'm due in court.
Got me Mm? versus the Armed Robbery Squad.
Well, I've got this afternoon free, so I thought I might come watch you work.
Oh, well, that's that's not a very good idea, darling.
Come on.
You keep bragging about how good you are.
Yeah, well, if I win this one, love, it'll be a bloody miracle.
Oh, well.
I might inspire you.
Oh, you do.
You do.
They look like bloody undertakers, mate.
What do you reckon they're up to? I reckon they're learning their lines, mate.
This turd gets off, I'll give the game away, Fraser.
Yeah? Yeah, not a moment too soon.
Mr Fraser? So We've heard four detectives testify on oath that my client was sitting in his car outside a bank with a shotgun on his lap in preparation for a robbery.
Now, a fifth detective, on oath, who was late for the meeting when the Armed Robbery Squad cooked up this farrago, or had just forgot their lines Your Honour.
Mr Fraser.
Your Honour, I'll, uh I'm sorry.
I'll withdraw that.
The jury will ignore that accusation.
Now, a fifth detective told you a different story.
He said the shotgun was on the back seat.
Not in Mr Connor's lap.
Now, my client, you'll remember, maintains that the only thing that he was holding was a Four'N Twenty pie.
With sauce.
Now, ladies and gentlemen, there are two sides to every story, and with your indulgence, I'd like to present them to you.
"Hey, KC, what's with the bag?" "Oh! I'm gonna rob a bank, mate.
" "Oh.
Who with?" "No-one.
I'm gonna do it all by myself.
" "Wow! That sounds dangerous.
What's your plan?" "Well, I'm gonna get there early, I'm gonna park outside.
"I'm going to sit in the front seat, in broad daylight, and polish my shotgun.
"Then when I've done that for 20 minutes, I'm gonna run inside, "I'm gonna gather all the people together, "I'm gonna stuff the money in the bag, then run outside, "get in the car and be my own getaway driver.
" "Wow! That's impressive.
" "Yeah! I'm a one-man Kelly Gang, mate.
" So that's one story.
That's the, uh That's the story that the prosecution would have you believe.
Now here's the other one.
"Hey, KC, are you still robbing banks?" "No, mate.
No, too dangerous.
If Armed Robbery get a hold of you" "Oh.
Well, you won't mind if I have your gear, then, mate?" "Oh, not a problem, mate.
"I'll get it together, I'll stuff it in a bag and I'll come round to yours.
" "Oh, thanks, KC!" So Which story do we believe? The one told to us by men who you've seen lie in this very courtroom? Or the one told to us by a man who has borne the scars of a desperate and dangerous police division? Members of the jury the decision is in your hands.
Be seated.
Has the jury reached its verdict? We have, Your Honour.
Will the defendant please rise? We, the jury, find the defendant, Ken Connor, not guilty on the charge of attempted robbery.
I'm off to the pub.
Mr Connor, you're Mr Connor! Not guilty! You'll have to excuse my client, Your Honour.
He's very relieved.
Well, I guess I'll be having your badge now that you're retired.
Piss off, Fraser.
To miracles.
Ahh Mmm.
Do you always have to be so openly hostile to them? Well, look, if they'd have won, they'd bloody well let me know about it.
I'd hate to see you lose.
Yeah.
So would I.
Who'd have thought a man in a wig and a cape would do it for me? But, Fray, you are gorgeous.
I am, aren't I? You are.
Mmm.
And I know I just love how I am when I'm with you.
I just bloody love it.
I'll have to check, but it's me you're supposed to love when I'm with you.
Come on, you know what I mean.
Hi.
Would you like to hear the specials tonight? Sure.
We have a fettuccine marinara with a special garlic and truffle sauce, a fragrant crab broth with hand-picked Queensland mud crabs and dashi custard, pheasant and chestnut pie, with celeriac remoulade and Madeira vanilla sauce Would you like some more time? No.
No, I've never been more certain of anything in my life.
No, we'll just be a minute, thanks, mate.
Ooh.
So? Yeah.
Yes.
Yes, yes, yes.
Very tight, boys.
Very tight.
Let's go.
Attention all units.
Armed robbery at gem dealers in High Street.
Montrose.
All available units.
Proceed to Montrose immediately.
I repeat.
All available units.
Proceed to Montrose immediately.
Those bastards have played us.
Fuck! You said you were cooking Italian.
It is Italian.
That doesn't look Italian! It is Italian.
It's getting Italian.
Ow.
I'm setting the table.
Don't burn the water.
Hey, can you get the phone? Yeah, righto, I'll get it.
Andrew Fraser.
What? Oh, bullshit.
OK.
Yeah, righto.
I'll turn it on.
Just after 3:30 this afternoon.
Armed Robbery Squad detectives surrounded this group of shops.
The man they were waiting for had been under surveillance for several weeks.
Suspected armed robber Graeme Jensen w as shot dead in his car at a stake-out.
Police say when the man came out of the shop.
They challenged him.
But he ran to his car.
Grabbed a firearm and pointed it at them.
Police say the convicted armed robber produced a sawn-off rifle before they opened fire at his car and shot him dead and the car careered into a pole.
Homicide Squad detectives have begun an investigation.
As has the Internal Investigation Unit.
When faced with an armed and dangerous gunman with a history of violence Bullshit! Fuckin' arsehole! They can't get away with this.
However.
Strict police protocol w as followed.
That is bullshit.
They want a war, do they? Oh, yeah, bloody oath, they want a war.
OK, they want a war.
We'll give 'em a fuckin' war.
Only we'll go one better.
We'll kill two of them for every one of us.
No-one kills coppers, Vic.
What's that, Gary? You fuckin' scared, are you? Are you fuckin' shitting yourself, are ya? No! Well? Are you with us? Yeah.
Let's go, mate.
Everybody.
You too, Jase.
Get up.
What's happening, Victor? Vic.
Just go to the Tullamarine Motel, get a room and I'll meet you there.
OK? Thanks, mate.
No worries.
What you doing on the weekend? Uh, footy, Saturday.
Barbecue, Sunday arvo.
What are you up to? Pub, Saturday.
Pub, Sunday.
Sounds like a plan.
Prahran 311.
over.
Just when I was thinking of bed.
This is Prahran 311.
Go ahead.
Prahran 311.
we've had a call from South Yarra regarding a white sedan with an unknown rego.
It appears that it's been parked in the middle of a street.
There's no sign of a driver.
Where's South Melbourne's van? St Kilda.
We're short on numbers.
They're over there on a suicide.
Alright, VKC.
Can we have the exact location of the vehicle? The car's located in Walsh Street.
What have we got here? Buggered if I know.
Check the rego.
It's been hot-wired.
No! All units.
Be advised we have a report of two officers down in Walsh Street.
South Yarra.
Reported shots fired.
Repeat.
Two officers down in Walsh Street.
South Yarra.
This is St Kilda 861.
We are en route.
Repeat address? Over.
Walsh Street.
South Yarra.
861.
we have a fourth call on shots fired and officers down.
Over.
There's nothing over the wall.
It's dead.
It's gone.
Oh, you reckon they taste better? Euch! They're disgusting.

Over.
