Wishbone (1995) s01e04 Episode Script

Rosie, Oh, Rosie, Oh!

What's the story, Wishbone?
What's this your dreaming of?
Such big imagination
on such a little pub.
What's the story, Wishbone?
Do you think it's worth a look?
It kind of seems familiar
like a story from a book.
Shake a leg now, Wishbone.
Let's wag another tale.
Sneffin' out adventure with
Wishphone on the trail.
Come on Wishphone, watch
the story Wishbone?
Watch the story Wishbone.
Watch the story, Wishbone?
Watch the story, Wishbone,
Watch the story, wishbone.
Watch the story, wishbone.
Wait, no, wait, there's
been a big misunderstanding.
Listen, can we just stop and talk
about this for just a minute?
If it's about the
flamingos, I can explain
Wait, you don't understand.
I'm too young to go to prison.
I never even learned how
to press a license plate.
I can't even play the
harmonica. I wouldn't fit in.
No one's listening.
Come on, boys.
Come on.
There's been a big mistake.
In you go.
What we have here is
failure to communicate.
Where'd you found this little guy?
Swimming in the duck
pond at Jackson Park.
A quick dip. Is that a crime?
No collar on the dog, no
owner around, no nothing.
Somebody will come looking
for you, fella. Don't worry.
Why wait for that? I
can take myself home.
We can forget this whole
thing ever happened.
What happened?
This is so embarrassing.
Oh, this is so embarrassing.
Uh-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h
- h-h-h-h-h-h-h-ha-ha-ha
- ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha
- ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-h.
Hang on. Why am I talking funny?
Oh, how can I say what I feel?
I need special words
for a face like that.
I need words with with
rhythm.
I need rhyme.
I need Poetry.
I need Romeo and Juliet.
Written in 1594 by the English
playwright William Shakespeare.
Mmm, Shakespeare wrote some of the
tenderest poetry you ever tasted.
Romeo and Juliet is a play.
so it's meant to be performed by actors
on a stage in front of an audience.
Backstage, the actors prepare for another
performance of
Shakespeare's popular play.
Very few people ever get
to see the backstage.
If anybody asks, tell
them you're with me.
The role of Romeo must be played
by an actor who can really
chew on the words.
Somebody handsome, witty, athletic.
Someone with a definite
Star quality!
What can I say?
Well, on with the show!
The play takes place in Verona, Italy.
Romeo comes from the Montague family.
Juliet comes from the Capulet family.
Now, the Montague's and the
Capulettes hate each other.
They fight like, well,
like cats and dogs.
Dog of the house of
Montague moves me to stand.
My sword, I say!
Oh, Montague is come!
Don, villain, Capulet! Hold me not!
Let me go!
Go!
In the next scene, a bunch of
Montagues, including Romeo,
sneak into a Capulet party.
If they get caught,
they're in big trouble.
Naturally, they go in disguise!
What do you think? Can you tell it's me?
Okay, guys, when we get
there, let me do the talking.
I can get into any party.
Watch this.
Okay, everybody be cool.
Hi! We're with the band.
You are welcome, gentlemen.
Come musicians play!
What I tell ya?
I love this disguise.
The food's good.
Mm-hmm.
Tasty.
Tasty.
Huh?
Huh?
Who, pray tell, is that?
Oh, did my heart love till, till now?
For swear its sight!
For I ne'er saw true
beauty, till this night.
She noticed me.
Here she comes. Make of something poetic.
If I profane with my unworthiest hand this
holy shrine, the gentlest sin is this.
My lips, two blushing
pilgrim ready stand,
to smooth that rough
touch with a gentle kiss.
Good pilgrim, you do
wrong your hand too much.
Which mannerly devotion shows in this.
For saints have hands that
pilgrim's hands do touch,
and palm to palm is Holy Palmer's kiss.
Madam, your mother calls you.
Pse.
Who is her mother?
Her mother is the lady of the house.
Oh, the lady of the
Is she a capulet?
Uh-oh, I'm in trouble.
Nurse.
Nurse.
Nurse.
Who is that gentleman?
His name is Romeo and a Montague,
the only son of your great enemy.
My only love sprung from my only hate.
I'm a Montague. She's a Capulet.
I'm a Montague. She's a Capulet.
I'm a Montague. She's a Capulet.
I'm a Montague. I don't care!
I'm in love!
Yes!
I'm in love, I'm in love.
Everybody, everybody,
everybody, I'm in love.
Love is exhausting.
This is where we keep all the
strays we find on the streets.
We try real hard to find homes for them.
Otherwise, after two months,
we put them to sleep.
What? Why can't they keep living here?
There's not enough room.
Eventually, we run out of space.
That's why we try so hard
to find homes for them.
Respond.
Wait, though.
Joe.
Sir, that's my dog.
Are you sure? Where's this car?
I always take it off him at night.
I guess I forgot to put it back on.
I guess I forgot to put it back on.
him this morning, but I promise.
He's mine.
You can call my mom to ask.
Alright, let's get a
leash to take him home.
Not necessary!
Hi, pretty girl.
Wow, she likes me.
She's so adorable.
Yeah, she is pretty.
Adorable.
She is.
I'd like to take you home with me.
Oh, Mr. Dunlap, I really like this dog.
Isn't she sweet?
Everybody around here calls her Rosie.
She's been here for quite a while.
Well, she may put the sleep?
Well, we hope she's adopted, but
she's been your over a month.
Well, I'll take her.
I'll take her right now.
You'll have to get permission
from your parents first.
Would your dad let you have a dog?
If he saw this dog, he couldn't say no.
Come on, wishbone.
No, wait. I'm a prisoner
of love. Don't set me free!
Well, this story has a happy ending.
Happy ending, he says.
This isn't happy? It's a disaster.
It's important to keep that
collar with a tag on your
If he should get lost without it, we have
no way of knowing if
he belongs to anybody.
Yes, sir. Come on,
Wishbone. Let's go home.
No, I just met the love of my life!
Bye, Rosie. I'll be back for you.
Ah! Don't you see? We belong together!
We belong together!
Can I go forward when my heart is here?
But soft, what light through
yonder window breaks?
It is the east, and Juliet is the sun.
Romeo.
Romeo.
Wherefore art thou, Romeo?
Deny thy father and refuse thy name.
Tis but thy name that is my enemy.
What's in a name?
That which we call a rose, by any
other word, would smell as sweet.
Romeo, doff thy name, and for thy name
which is no part of thee, take all myself.
Okay, take me.
I'm yours.
Are thou not Romeo?
And of Montague?
How cameest thou hither?
Tell me, and wherefore?
The orchard walls are
high and hard to climb,
and the place death,
considering who thou art,
if any of my kinsman find thee here.
With love's light wings
did I o'er perch thee?
these walls.
For stony limits cannot keep love out.
Therefore, thy kinsmen are no stop to me.
My faithful vow of love, I give to thee.
My bounty is as boundless as the sea.
My love is deep.
The more I give to thee, the more
I have, for both are infinite.
Juliet?
Juliet!
Anon, good nurse!
Stay but a little. I will come again.
I think she likes me.
If that thy bent of love, be honorable.
By purpose, marriage,
send me word tomorrow.
You can count on it.
Madam, let me hear.
Good night.
Good night.
Parting is such sweet sorrow.
Yes! I'm gonna marry.
Juliet!
I gotta get back to Rosie!
Thanks, this is Talbot.
Rosie! Rosie! Rosie! Rosie, Rosie, Rosie,
Rosie, Rosie, Rosie, Rosie, Rosie, Rosie.
Hey, Sam, how was your day?
Great. Come on, I got to say something.
Okay, okay. Thanks for picking
her up. Just a second, Sam.
Shall I pick her up tomorrow, Walter?
Yeah, that'd be great.
Oh, could she stay at your
place for a while? I've
got a late appointment.
No problem.
Okay.
Thanks.
Our class took the animal shelter today.
Remember?
You did.
I forgot. That was today, wasn't it?
I found the perfect one for us.
Huh? Isn't she cute?
You know we can't have a dog.
We've already talked about this, Sam.
But Dad, she's just
what I've always wanted.
I know she's the one.
I wish I could say yes, Sam. I really do.
But it's just not practical.
But what does it always
have to be practical?
Because dogs require attention,
sweetheart, lots of it.
House training, walking, feeding,
cleaning, you're already a busy girl.
Dad, I know, and I'll do
everything, I promise.
Sam, we're hardly ever here.
She'll spend all of
her time at home alone.
Maybe she'd have a home.
Sam, what about your mother?
Who takes care of the dog
when you go to stay with her?
You know she doesn't
allow dogs in her house.
But Dad, they'll put her to sleep.
We don't have much time.
Dad, we've got to do something.
Sam, I'm sorry.
Look, maybe we can find her
a home with someone else.
Huh?
Now hold still.
You don't want to end up
at the pound again, do you?
The pound.
The pound is a palace of love!
Oh, color!
What's in a collar?
My love's unleashed!
No color can contain my canine soul!
This thing's coming off.
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
Come on, no time to waste!
Rosie! I'm back!
This guy looks familiar.
At last we meet again!
Did you miss me?
I had some unfinished
business at the duck pond.
Oh, Rosie. What do you say?
Let's run away together.
Just the two of us.
When Romeo and Juliet meet again,
they get married in secret.
Friar Lawrence performs the ceremony.
Come, come with me, and
we will make short work.
For, by your leaves,
you shall not stay alone
till Holy Church incorporate two in one.
What's yours is mine, and what's
mine will always be yours.
What's yours is mine, and what's
mine will always be yours.
Nice arrangement, huh?
What little kiss.
Oh, Mr. Dunlap, I know if my dad takes
one look at Rosie, he'll let me keep her.
Okay, I'll let you sign her off for the
afternoon, but you have
to have her back by six.
No problem.
Hi, Rosie, hi, wishbone.
Sam.
What a surprise.
Okay, come on.
Wishbone and Rosie, sitting in a tree.
K-I-S-S-I-S-I-G.
Isn't Sam lovely?
Okay, I'll go get my dad,
and you guys stay here.
Take your time, Sam.
No rush!
Yes!
Rosie!
We're free!
We're
I'm alone.
Rosie, hello!
Yo-hoo!
Don't worry, she'll be
safe in there. Come on!
Let's go someplace Romantic.
Dad?
Welcome to Club Wanda.
Five o'clock, Rosie?
Wishbone, Rosie?
He's at Joe's house.
Where are you?
Mom?
Salvin?
Uh, in here.
Mom, I've looked everywhere.
He's gone.
Does he have his collar on?
Of course. Joe.
Well, are you sure?
I'm positive.
Joe. What?
How'd that get there?
Walter, come on him.
Hi, Alan. Sam ready to go?
Sam?
Oh, well, I thought Joe, you
did talk to Sam, didn't you?
She said her dad was gonna pick her up.
Oh, Walter, I'm so sorry.
I'm sorry.
Uh, that's okay.
Uh, I'll check back at the house.
Well, call if she isn't there.
May I have this dance?
This dance?
Rosie? Where you going?
Oh, don't worry. It's just Wanda.
And
The cops!
This dog runs wild in
my yard all the time.
He belongs next door.
Now, I've never seen.
the other one, which is why I called you.
I'll take care of it, near.
Rosie!
Run for your life!
I'll run interference!
Rosie!
Rosie!
Hey, easy on the fur.
Rosie, is that you?
Hey, wait! Stop!
You don't understand!
Oh, no.
This is your dog?
Yes, I'm afraid it is.
Joe, he's back!
You really should keep
a collar on this fellow.
I know. Thanks so much for returning him.
Yeah, okay, Ellen, missed you two.
Now, put me down!
Oh, no!
Hey!
Stop!
My love is in that truck!
Hey! Come back! You don't understand!
A tragic separation.
Oh, cruel fate!
Right after Romeo and Juliet get married,
Romeo is banished from Verona.
In the following scene,
Romeo and Juliet have to say goodbye.
Two minutes, everyone!
They don't know when or if
they'll see each other again.
Romeo, you're on!
Oh, by this count, I shall be much in
years ere I again, behold my Romeo.
Farewell, my love.
Oh, think so we shall ever meet again.
I doubt it not. Adieu.
Adieu.
Adieu.
Ah, till we meet again, my love.
Rosio.
Rosio.
Somebody want to get that?
Hello?
Thank you.
Yes.
I'll get it.
Is there any other place
she might have been?
Oh, hi, Sam.
Oh, Walter, she just walked in.
Wishbone.
Joe, is Rosie here?
Rosie.
You knew you were supposed
to go home with Joe.
Sweetheart, nobody knew where
you were where you were.
I mean, what if we had
called the police
Dad, I couldn't let him put her to sleep.
I just couldn't.
I thought maybe if you saw her,
you want her as much as I did.
Now they're really going
to put her to sleep.
Wait.
Wait a minute, people.
What are we just
standing around here for?
Come on!
To action!
Okay, we'll do it right this time.
I'll wear the leash.
Let's go, everybody!
Need a little help with the door.
Please.
Hey, Rosie!
Your wishbowl.
has returned. From now on,
it's you and me forever!
Rosie?
Rosie?
Rosie?
She's gone.
My love is gone!
Oh, oh no.
Wishbone!
What are you doing?
Oh, just dying of a broken heart.
What about you?
No, where's Rosie?
Dad, what if they put her to sleep?
Sam, there's something
I meant to tell you.
Mr. Dunlap, where's Rosie?
She wasn't what to sleep, was she?
Please say no.
Oh, no.
No, Sam.
She was adopted.
A family came in and took
her home a few minutes ago.
Are you sure?
Yes.
Sam, I'm sorry.
I know how much you liked Rosie.
I'm glad she's okay.
I mean, she really needed a good home.
Sam.
I know you wanted a dog of your own, but
maybe you could help
out here at the shelter.
You know, there are a lot of animals
that could use some love and attention.
That's for sure.
We always need volunteers to play
with the animals, walk them, pet them.
I think I'd like that.
Well, sign you up, Sam.
Let's go, boy.
You go ahead. I'll catch up.
I'm having a fairly dramatic moment.
Just a few more minutes to grief.
Please.
This is the part of the play where
the love story turns into a tragedy.
Romeo and Juliet's love is doomed by
the hatred between their two families.
Ooh, thank you.
At the end of the play, Romeo
and Juliet died together.
This is a very dramatic scene.
Excuse me. I gotta go play dead.
Eyes, look your last at Fair Juliet.
their dead was husband to that Juliet.
And she, their dead, was
Romeo's faithful wife.
I married it in hopes that their alliance
would turn your household's
hatred to pure love.
See what a scourge is laid upon your hate
that heaven find means to
kill your joys with love.
Oh, Brother Montague,
You, come give me thy hand.
Go hence and talk more
of these sad things.
For never was a story of more woe
than this of Juliet and her Romeo.
Great show, everybody, great show.
Thank you, ladies and gentlemen.
Thank you very much.
You've been a beautiful
audience you really have.
What about this cat?
Huh?
Huh?
Huh?
You're too kind.
You're too kind.
And how about the orchestra?
Everybody was great.
Oh, Rosie left me a me memento,
something with her
beautiful teeth marks on it.
What?
Hey, I happen to like Rotter.
Come on, Joe! Race you outside!
Can't catch me!
Woo!
All the world's a stage, and all
men and women merely players.
They have their exits
and their entrances,
and one dog, uh, man,
and his time plays many parts.
Mmm.
Tasty.
He definitely had me and mine.
The stage where most
of Shakespeare's plays
were first performed was
the Old Globe Theatre.
And the players were a special group
of actors called The King's Men.
They all played different
parts in different plays,
sort of a theatrical dog pack.
I've got my own pack of actors who
play different characters every day.
Our casting director helps pick which
actor would be best for each part.
And I wanted someone
special to play my Juliet.
The actress we finally selected to play
Juliet had all the
qualities that we needed,
which were youthfulness and exuberance
and an incredibly wonderful ability
to speak the Shakespearean
language in a believable way.
Auditions are a little scary, but
they're a wonderful opportunity
because you get to recite some
lines from the actual script
so that they can see how well
you can play the character.
Row here.
Romeo.
Where for Arthur Romeo?
Deny thy father and refuse thy name.
Actors have to look the part too.
The week before the show hits the stage,
they're fitted so their
costume looks terrific.
Nice hat, huh?
Final touches of hairstyling
and makeup complete the
creation of an unmistakably
handsome leading man.
At rehearsals, actors practice
where to stand, walk, and stop.
Kind of like obedience school.
Time for my rehearsal.
Whoops!
Even stars have to practice
hitting their marks.
The strength of any show is how
well all the actors work as a team.
And it doesn't hurt to have
a megastar headlining even.
Thank you, ladies and
gentlemen. Thank you very much.
Actors need a good imagination.
So if you hope to be a
player on the world's stages,
prepare for acting with
your nose between the pages.
Of a good book, that is.
I don't know.
