The acts go head-to-head for a place in the next round The Cut.
- It's a dance battle, baby.
announcer: It's the biggest announcer: Toughest most intense round of the competition yet.
Whoa! [screams.]
That's what I'm talking about! When we said the "World of Dance" was the biggest dance competition in the world, we told you we were not playing.
announcer: The acts will be awarded points from 0 to 20 in each of the 5 categories-- Performance Technique Choreography Creativity and Presentation-- for a maximum possible score of 100.
The act with the highest score in each Duel wins a place in the next round, the Cut.
The loser is eliminated.
The stakes have never been higher.
You're going into the lion's den right now And you have to go for blood.
announcer: Pressure is on.
I wouldn't want to follow that.
announcer: Two acts enter Let's see who made it to the next round.
announcer: Only one survives.
You're through to the next round! Congratulations! [cheers and applause.]
[upbeat music.]
announcer: Please welcome your host, Jenna Dewan Tatum.
Your judges, Derek Hough NE-YO and Jennifer Lopez.
Tonight, we are turning up the heat.
The top-scoring acts from the Qualifiers have chosen who they want to face in the Duels.
The Duels start now.
[cheers and applause.]
Okay, guys, congrats for getting through the Qualifiers.
[cheers and applause.]
Good job! Fik-Shun, as the second-highest scorer, it's time to make your decision.
Who do you pick? As a soloist, I picked another soloist.
Nick Daniels.
- Awesome! [applause.]
Whoo! announcer: For the first Duel of the competition, former "So You Think You Can Dance?" winner Fik-Shun, chose contemporary dancer, Nick Daniels.
What we loved about Fik-Shun's first performance was the surprise of it, actually.
You don't normally see hip-hop soloists doing something so vulnerable.
I'm a little unsteady My parents have always been separated.
I just always tried to be the one in the middle to bring them together.
[cheers and applause.]
["Secrets" by OneRepublic.]
Now, Nick, he also blew us away.
Tell me what you want to hear Here's a kid out of nowhere.
Crazy flexibility, ridiculous strength.
Your range of movement is endless.
Parts that I connected to the most, you just lost control.
He doesn't just match Fik-Shun in raw emotion, he might outshine him.
What was the thought behind that dance? About three years ago, my dad passed away.
This dance was releasing all the negativity it's brought to me.
All my secrets away [cheers and applause.]
["Human" by Rag'n'Bone Man.]
Some people got the real problems Some people out of luck Are you nervous about anything? I'm, like, taking a risk because the meat of it is gonna be more freestyle.
That's just, like, who you are.
No one can freestyle like you can.
Fik-Shun picked a song that has a breakdown in the middle, which will allow him to show off his faster work, his precision, and really bring that "wow" factor.
That's a smart move.
I'm only human after all Nick is pushing himself and his amazingly flexible body to the limit.
Whoo! Ay-yi-yi! And he's trying to cram in as many power moves as he can to rack up points.
Did you have to change your dance around? - Absolutely.
- Did you do any--you did? I added a lot of more "wow" moments, more emotion, and everything.
I'm only human after all Don't put your blame on me Nick is an amazing dancer.
I'm really thinking like, "Man, like, I could have just picked my doom.
" I'm only human, I make mistakes Fik-Shun has such a big name in the dance world, so I have to rise up to the occasion.
It cannot end here.
They couldn't be more different competitors.
announcer: First up, Fik-Shun.
[cheers and applause.]
["Fragile" by Tech N9ne.]
I never thought I'd be so fragile You're not alone If it didn't break before It's about to We've been here before I don't ever want to change I'm fragile I don't ever Some of the people appointed to give an opinion Ya never do get it, I want you to come on And gobble a jimmy and die N9na be givin' the remedy and why? Gifted, effin' incredible, get fanned away With grands to pay - God! Deaf and impeccable, write a rhyme And I put everything in a flow, I'm the N9ne I'ma look very mean when a foe scribe a line But he has never been at a show By the times it'll be better, leave it in the sto' 'Cause they wrote nothin' but lies Quotes stuck in my eyes, amateur writer dissin' He's a beginner and hopes for your demise Folks I'ma despise, never do try to listen [cheers and applause.]
Putting my heart and my soul in these lines Tellin' me platinum and gold all the time Lookin' to bury a deep hole for mine Fragile Wish I'd have known If it didn't break before, it's about to We've been here before I'm fragile I don't ever [song ends.]
[cheers and applause.]
Whoo! Fik-Shun, the control that you have over your body is unprecedented.
I'm like, "What?" That little backbend head thing? That was awesome.
The most awesome part about that is that you knew how sick it was and you just stayed down there for a minute.
You know what I mean? And I love the way you play with the music.
Your musicality might be the best in the competition.
[cheers and applause.]
How much of what you do is freestyle versus choreographed? Uh80%.
Um-- - Jeez! Would you say that this routine was more freestyle than your last routine? - Yes.
- See, I felt that.
And I don't necessarily want to feel that all the time, you know what I mean? But you brought the energy, definitely.
Great job.
- All right.
Time to lock in the score.
[suspenseful music.]
Nick, go show us what you got.
[singsong.]
Nick, you got your work cut out.
["Wicked Game" by RAIGN.]
I never dreamed That I'd meet somebody like you No, I don't want to fall in love No, I don't want to fall in love With you What a wicked game to play To make me dream of you What a wicked thing to say You never felt this way What a wicked thing to do To make me dream of you And I don't want to fall in love [song ends.]
[cheers and applause.]
Yes! [both pounding on table.]
[cheers and applause.]
That's what a Duel is about.
This piece was technically impressive, but at the same time, there was emotion there.
I could--like, these moments here were almost as strong as when you put your leg behind your head, over, and twisted it.
- Thank you.
- Yeah.
Nick, you, like, defy limits of anatomy.
The acrobatics of it? [exhales.]
I'm, like--I loved it, and I'm also in pain.
- Me too.
- It makes sense, 'cause what you're doing should not be real.
- Thank you.
- Watching something like that, you're like, "Is this humanly possible what this person is doing right now?" But, again, all of the flexibility means nothing without the emotion, and it really elevated your game.
It's his body control versus your lack of bones, and it's just like--it's-- it's just-- - Both amazing.
- Both amazing, both standouts.
[cheers and applause.]
With that said, let's lock in the scores.
[suspenseful music.]
- Hard.
- Do not wanna be you guys.
It is.
It's close.
It is tight.
Who has the potential to give us more? 'Cause just pure on a-- [sighs.]
God.
Yikes! Do you wanna just lock that in and see what happens? Yeah, that is the score.
The scores are locked.
This is it.
Only one act is staying.
Let's see who's moving on to the next round.
["The Days" by Avicii.]
announcer: Nick Daniels 87.
7.
Fik-Shun 90.
7.
Fik-Shun, you're going through.
Congratulations.
Slam that door Nick, you just danced for your life up there.
You are magnificent.
I feel like you're gonna grow into something that is gonna shock the world, honestly.
You are freaking amazing! Like, dude [cheers and applause.]
Let's hear it one more time for Nick Daniels, everybody.
[cheers and applause.]
Coming into this competition, I wanted to start something new and break some walls down, and I definitely feel like I've done that.
One more time for Fik-Shun.
[cheers and applause.]
[upbeat music.]
- Hey! - I feel like I have to strap myself in 'cause I know the energy is gonna be insane.
Literally a party from beginning to end! We got a battle.
You guys epitomize power and subtlety.
[all shout.]
[cheers and applause.]
Great job! announcer: In this Duel, it's Colombian salsa troupe Swing Latino versus elite amateurs Miami All Stars.
[upbeat music.]
[lively Latin music.]
This Duel is gonna be amazing.
Two big Latin teams going head-to-head.
What can I say about Swing Latino? The world has never seen salsa like this before.
They're explosive.
The speed of their footwork is unreal.
And their tricks are honestly death-defying.
This competition is about proving that you are the best dancers on the face of the planet, and I feel like y'all did that.
Nobody knows what I'm feeling inside The Miami All Stars are different.
These aren't full-time dancers.
They're teachers and lawyers chasing a dream that they have as well.
They have true passion, and I love that dedication.
This would be a perfect world We'd be together then There is an unbridled enthusiasm.
It was why I wanted to be involved in this whole thing, because of dancers like you.
Thank you, thank you.
And love and dance again [cheers and applause.]
["Light It Up" by Major Lazer.]
How you guys feeling? - Good.
- Excited.
- I see you guys are choosing to go a different way.
- We have to.
We know what Swing Latino is here - Yeah.
- And we need to make sure that we jump higher.
- That I like.
- If that makes sense.
- That makes me excited.
Both of these groups are pushing themselves to the max.
Six, seven, eight, one, two.
Miami All Stars are going with a swing routine because they want to stand out, and they're gonna throw in every trick they can think of.
- Six, seven, eight, yeah! - Whoo! I want to see everywhere Swing Latino has been watching Miami rehearse, and for every trick that they do, Swing is adding in another trick.
Yay! Sorry.
Adios! Light it up When Swing Latino picked us, I think they made a mistake.
We're changing up everything.
The stage is gonna explode tonight.
It's gonna be crazy.
announcer: First up, Swing Latino! [cheers and applause.]
Let's battle.
Let's get it.
Yeah, light it up [upbeat Latin music.]
[men singing in Spanish.]
[cheers and applause.]
[song ends.]
[screams and laughs.]
[cheers and applause.]
That made me want to just get up and move my little hips! You guys were performing, and all the sudden, I had JLo's booty right here.
I was like, "Oh!" [laughter and cheering.]
My skirt's way too short.
Anyway [laughs.]
Okay.
[cheers and applause.]
Translate this.
[imitates explosion booming.]
[cheering and laughter.]
- Gracias.
- Couple cleanliness issues here and there.
Nothing major.
You guys should be proud of this performance.
[cheers and applause.]
I feel like I have to strap myself in and get ready for your performance 'cause I know the energy is gonna be insane, it's explosive.
But also, your tricks, they're, like, death-defying.
Like, if you drop her, she's gonna break her neck, like, literally.
And then that last move, that's so cool.
Like, that was, like, 8 feet in the air you chucked her, and he catches her like, "What's up? Bam!" - Upside down! - It'sit's so good! Thank you.
[cheers and applause.]
[cheering continues.]
- Lock it in.
- Locking it in.
[suspenseful music.]
- The scores are locked.
All right, Miami All Stars, let's go.
Go light up that stage! Come on, guys! Come on! ["Jumpin' Jack" by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.]
When you hit the dance floor You gotta be jumpin' Jack Jump on in, jump with your baby Roll right on your track.
Whoa, whoa Watch it, watch it Hey Hey Whoo! Woo-hoo-hoo-hoo! Hey! Hey Hey Hey [song ends.]
[cheers and applause.]
- Yeah! - Hey! [cheers and applause.]
You guys stepped it up.
- Yes.
- Big time.
B-boy moves, then you had the flairs, the fouette turns, you had some swing.
It had everything you could have wanted.
Dynamics, group visuals.
I could go on and on.
Great job.
Fantastic.
- Yes! - Here we go.
I feel like I'm watching a Broadway performance.
This is-- - Yeah! This is, like, that good.
Literally a party from beginning to end.
You guys executed it beautifully.
We had a battle.
- I feel like this competition needs you both.
- Yeah.
This is the level of-- of dance we need.
[cheers and applause.]
All right, let's score this thing.
Here we go.
[suspenseful music.]
Come on, guys.
We're good to go.
All right, the scores are locked.
It's the moment of truth.
["Green Light" by Lorde.]
announcer: Swing Latino 91.
7.
[cheers and applause.]
Miami All Stars All right, the scores are locked.
It's the moment of truth.
["Green Light" by Lorde.]
announcer: Swing Latino 91.
7.
[cheers and applause.]
Miami All Stars 88.
3.
- Swing Latino! Swing Latino, you're moving on to the next round.
But I can't let go, I'm waiting for it Congratulations! I want it, oh, I wish I could get my things And just let go You guys came out here against a powerhouse, but you absolutely rose to the challenge, and you should be proud of yourselves.
We love you guys.
Thank you! Congratulations, you guys.
[cheers and applause.]
I just feel like we've just seen the tip of the iceberg with what these guys can do.
- Thank you so much.
[cheers and applause.]
One more time, Swing Latino! Great job! I don't know what--what they could've done to beat-- - I don't know.
- Their energy.
It's the energy of their performance.
- Yeah.
- They bring you up here, and that's hard to compete with.
- Yeah.
[all cheering.]
Swing Latino! Swing Latino! announcer: In this Duel, small-town powerhouse Eva Igo picked viral hip-hop sensation KynTay.
["Stand and Deliver" by Bishop Briggs.]
This is the Duel of the tiny powerhouses.
Eva Igo is a beast.
She looks 6 feet tall when she dances.
She has so much strength, so much power, way beyond her years.
Shut your mouth, baby, stand and deliver What? Why do you love to dance? I can just let out any emotions inside of me and just be me.
[cheers and applause.]
KynTay are the new faces of dance.
They hit hard and they have huge attitude.
I got broads in Atlanta Twistin' dope, lean, and the Fanta If you look on YouTube or any social media, you're gonna see their faces.
They're clearly kids, but when it was time to be on it, they turn into little monsters.
The sharpness of the moves and the attitude, you guys do it really, really well.
[cheers and applause.]
["Just Like Fire" by Pink.]
[both grunting.]
I know that I'm running out of time From the outside, KynTay looks like the crowd favorite.
They have the years of experience performing on some of the biggest stages in the world.
I mean, they were on tour with Janet Jackson.
And I'm walking on a wire Trying to go higher, feels like I'm surrounded - Whoo! Woo-hoo-hoo! - Ya! It's a huge challenge to be a soloist competing against two veteran performers.
We came here to run it It's so amazing to be up there and to be the only one dancing because you can really showcase your style, and you have no one else to try and be in sync with.
You can take the opportunity to really shine.
Just like fire, burning up the way People might underestimate me, but they shouldn't.
I'm not ready to go home.
No one can be just like me any way Just like magic, I'll be flying free Eva Igo, she is technically perfect, but all of the experience that we've had together has definitely, um, made us a force to be reckoned with.
[cheers and applause.]
announcer: First up, KynTay! Time to work! ["Bang Bang" by Jessie J.]
She got a body like an hourglass But I can give it to you all the time She got a booty like a Cadillac But I can send you into overdrive Oh You've been waiting for that Step on up, swing your bat See, anybody could be bad to you You need a good girl to blow your mind, yeah Bang bang there goes your heart I know you want it, back back seat of my car I'll let you have it Wait a minute, let me take you there Wait a minute till ya It's Myx Moscato, it's frizz in a bottle It's Nicki full throttle, it's oh, oh Swimming in the grotto, we winning in the lotto We dipping in the pot of blue foam B to the A to the N to the G to the unh B to the A to the N to the G to the hey See, anybody could be good to you You need a bad girl to blow your mind Your mind Bang bang there goes your heart I know you want it, back back seat of my car I'll let you have it Wait a minute, let me take you there Wait a minute till ya Ah hey [song ends.]
[cheers and applause.]
You two make me so happy.
The routine was adorable.
You surprised us with the transition from moment to moment to moment to moment.
I really, really enjoyed it.
- Thank you.
- Really did.
There's a reason why you guys have millions of hits on YouTube.
Because you guys are so fun to watch.
Thank you.
What is that sound? It's just too cute.
You guys had a lot of impact, a lot of energy.
And, again, you guys are, like, masters of the face.
- Locking in.
Ready? - Let's lock in.
Let's get it.
[suspenseful music.]
The scores are locked.
Okay, Eva, go do your thing.
[cheers and applause.]
- Whoo! - Go, Eva! [dramatic music.]
announcer: Next up onstage, Eva Igo! [cheers and applause.]
[female performing "It's a Man's Man's Man's World".]
This is a man's world This is a man's world But it would be nothing Nothing, yeah Without a woman or a girl You see, man thinks about our little bitty baby girls And our baby boys Man makes them happy 'Cause man made them toys - Whoo! And after man make everything Everything, everything he can You know that man makes money To buy, to buy from other man This is a man's, man's, man's world But it would be nothing, nothing Without a woman or a girl No, no He's lost in the wilderness He's lost in the bitterness 'Cause it's a man's World, world World [song ends.]
[cheers and applause.]
Whoo! [cheers and applause.]
audience: [chanting.]
Eva! Eva! Eva! Eva! Eva! Eva! Eva! Eva! Eva! [cheering continues.]
Hey, Eva, the lyrics say it's a man's world.
It's Eva's world.
You were like a beautiful creature creating these movements that are inhuman.
They're inhuman.
- Thank you.
[cheering continues.]
It's always a concern, a soloist versus a duo.
You could beat 12 people if you felt like it.
- Thanks! - You are the entire package alone.
Thank you.
Thanks so much.
A really great dancer knows that every single move means something.
And you understand that very well, and it goes to show the strength of subtlety.
We were screaming just as loud back here when you did the shoulder thing.
- The turning.
[cheers and applause.]
It just goes to show you it's about making people feel something, and you absolutely do that when you dance.
It was a really, really great routine.
- Amazing.
- Thank you so much.
Let's lock 'em in.
[suspenseful music.]
Okay, the scores are locked.
It's the moment of truth.
Let's find out who's going through to the next round.
announcer: KynTay 82.
7.
[cheers and applause.]
Eva Igo Eva! I'm alive You're moving on to the next round.
I'm alive - Thank you.
- We love you! ["Alive" by Sia.]
You guys are this new generation of dancer.
Great job.
Hope to see you guys next year.
Thank you.
Let's hear it one more time for KynTay.
You took it all, but I'm still breathing You took it all Oh, congrats, Eva! Took it all, but I'm still breathing As we get older, we lose the little girl, the little girl with all the hope, and I always try to stay in touch with that.
That's one of my secrets.
I always think about that girl who went to dance class and stayed later than everybody else and did everything, and I am just inspired by your spirit.
It's a beautiful thing to see, and I thank you.
Thank you so much.
Congratulations.
We'll see you in the next round! I'm still breathing I'm still breathing I'm alive Took it all, but I'm still breathing I'm alive -laughs.]
I can't believe that I'm moving on to the next round.
I'm feeling really honored because they're so incredible, and I never thought, like, any of this was, like, even, like, possible, so I'm very proud of myself.
- Her control is - Her strength is crazy.
It's what makes it I love her.
She's my fave.
- Standout.
Yeah.
She's my fave so far.
announcer: For the last Duel of the night, former "Norway's Got Talent" winners Quick Style go up against their former teachers, married choreographers, Keone and Mari.
[dramatic music.]
As the last two remaining acts in the Upper Division, you guys will be dueling.
[cheers and applause.]
Oh, my God! How did this happen? We all just went, "Ugh!" and hugged each other, because those are our friends and, like, our little brothers.
[upbeat music.]
In the first round, Keone and Mari's performance had it all.
The beauty in their moves is their simplicity.
Put together so cleverly that you have no choice but to be just sucked into their world.
Goosey.
Musicality, those little like [scatting.]
Like, it's amazing.
That connection makes your work so special.
[cheers and applause.]
If anybody can beat Keone and Mari, it's probably Quick Style.
Their Qualifier performance was super in-sync, super polished, completely brilliant.
Dance is not a big thing in Norway.
It's very rare for men to be dancing in Norway.
Jolene The song choice was risky, but, man, did it pay off.
You guys were probably one of the cleanest.
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene ["Paris" by The Chainsmokers.]
Watching these two acts rehearse this week has been riveting and also very emotional.
Here are the teachers and their now-famous star students facing off.
They are equally clean, equally polished, and equally musical.
I feel like it's gonna come down to the creative choices each act is making.
The one thing that we have up on them is that storytelling aspect.
That's always been a game plan of ours, that our stories would be stronger and more relatable as we moved on.
If we go down then we go down together The judges said doing hip-hop to a country song like "Jolene" was bold and brave, but, sure, it limited us.
Next one, we also want to show how our style is on hip-hop.
- Yes.
Wow! We love you guys.
[laughter.]
Let's show them we are better We're good friends with Keone and Mari, but now we're competitors.
It is bittersweet.
I mean, when do you get the opportunity to duel against some of your closest friends on a big platform such as "World of Dance"? - Let's show them we are better It's just amazing.
[cheers and applause.]
announcer: First up, Keone and Mari! [cheers and applause.]
["Like Real People Do" by Hozier.]
I had a thought, dear However scary About that night The bugs and the dirt Why were you digging? What did you bury Before those hands pulled me from the earth? I will not ask and neither should you Honey, just put your Sweet lips on my lips We should just kiss like real people do I could not ask you where you came from I could not ask and neither could you Honey, just put your sweet lips on my lips We could just kiss like real people do [song ends.]
[cheers and applause.]
Man! [cheering continues.]
This is such a narrative about our world today-- how we're so into our phones that we're forgetting that there's somebody right in front of you that you're just not connecting with, and that's what I got from that routine, and that's what I love about your guys' work, and it's a beautiful thing to watch.
Uh, if you break down your movements, they're actually relatively simple.
Some of them are just like-- just hand movements, right? But then when you put them together with intention, and they're just like, whew, unbelievable.
[cheers and applause.]
You guys epitomize power and subtlety.
You guys are just as dynamic as any big group with just the two of you.
- Thank you.
Great job.
Let's lock in scores.
Great job, great job.
[suspenseful music.]
The judges have locked in their scores.
Quick Style, go do your thing.
[cheers and applause.]
- Yeah.
- Come on, guys, come on! [upbeat music.]
You guys are, like, the dopest boy band I've ever seen.
[cheers and applause.]
[suspenseful music.]
We're good friends with Keone and Mari, but we are still going full force.
We know that they wouldn't want anything else from us, and we don't want to disappoint them.
[cheers and applause.]
["Guidance" by Travis Scott.]
And I found out that you're bad for me I found out that you had someone Rolling up behind it You stay wildin' I guide, I guide you Like a pilot Haven't been around this year I like to see you change your gears To a motion that's more faster, babe I'm grippin' like I'm trying to catch up, babe Come through, follow me Do you like that? Follow me Nicest, follow me, backwoods, follow me Practice, follow me, yeah I roll up behind it I wanna try it Grip up your waist, bust up the place Tantalizing - To a motion that's more faster, babe I'm grippin' like I'm trying to catch up, babe Found out that you're bad for me I found out that you had someone Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, oh, oh [song ends.]
Let's go! Let's go! [cheers and applause.]
So amazing! [cheers and applause.]
Whoo! Nice! [cheering continues.]
- I hate this! - Hate this.
- What style? - So much! Umaah! I don't know what to say! I mean, choices in choreography and moments-- it was, like, perfect.
The musicality was insane.
The difficulty level was incredible.
I mean, you guys are, like, the dopest boy band I've ever seen.
[laughter and applause.]
I mean, you're so good.
It sucks! It sucks that somebody has to go home.
Perfection start to finish.
You guys are easily one of the cleanest groups we have as far as just synchronicity.
Every single picture is perfectly painted, you know what I mean? An amazing performance.
This just really sucks.
I can't--I can't-- I can't say it enough.
This sucks.
This sucks.
It is.
It's a really tough choice.
We've had a few battles that were like this, but this might be the toughest of them all.
You really have a style.
This piece was made in their house.
Oh.
[cheers and applause.]
And we've known each other forever, and we've grown a lot together, inspiring each other, and only shown through true love to each other.
[cheers and applause.]
There you go.
- I don't know.
- I don't know what I'm gonna do.
[stammers.]
I mean You guys smashed that routine.
So good! All right, let's score this thing.
Here we go.
- No, it sucks.
- They're so good.
- It really sucks.
- But it's pretty clear to me.
[sighs.]
That was so good though.
We locking in? Let's see what happens.
[suspenseful music.]
We're locked in.
[cheers and applause.]
The scores are locked.
One act will be moving on.
Let's see who made it to the next round.
announcer: Keone and Mari 91.
3.
Quick Style 89.
3.
Keone and Mari! You're going through! [dramatic music.]
I'm upset right now because you guys are easily one of the best groups here.
If you were against anybody else, you would've took it.
We need you to come back next year.
We will come back harder than ever, for sure.
- Respect.
- For sure! Keone and Mari, congratulations, guys.
You know, sometimes it's hard to judge, um, but what you can't measure is the way it makes you feel.
And, for me, the way that routine made me personally feel was just inspired.
- Thank you.
- Thanks, Derek.
One more time for Keone and Mari.
Keone and Mari is the people that we wanted to lose against.
It was a great loss, but also a great fight.
They're so interpretive and so--such artists.
[laughter.]
["Get Down Tonight" br/by KC & The Sunshine Band.]
male announcer: For the last three weeks Do a little dance, make a little love announcer: The best dancers in the world announcer: Have lit up the "World of Dance" stage.

[laughter.]
