You Deserve It (2011) s01e04 Episode Script
Episode 4
This is Amy.
She's out to dinner with Friends.
She doesn't have the slightest clue that her 25-year-old son Greg is here tonight as a contestant on a game show.
And every dollar he wins will go directly to her.
Why would he do that? Because, Amy, you deserve it! Hello, everybody, I'm Chris Harrison and welcome to "You deserve it," the show that believes it's better to give than to receive.
And what makes this game different is Greg is trying to win as much money as possible for someone else.
Amy is a devoted mother whose Life was drastically altered after one fateful day.
Let's find out more about her.
My name is Greg and I'm playing for the best mom in the world-- my mom Amy.
She always thinks about other people and rarely about herself.
My mom grew up in Southern California.
She actually met my Dad in their early 20s.
It was love at first sight, and soon after, they were married in August of 1981.
Sports was something that me and my brother both loved.
When we moved to aliso Viejo, being a new community that it was, uh, there was no little league program.
So my mom and dad got together and they started a little league, and it just kind of grew from there.
Aliso Viejo little league started with 2 fieldsand 90 kids and now has 6 fields and over 700 kids.
(Greg) We lived a great life until about a year and a half ago.
Things started to go downhill.
My dad kind of started getting sick a little bit.
He started becoming really Lethargic.
He would be cold all the time.
I remember my mom telling me that they did the liver biopsy They told us right then that it was either a transplant or he's not gonna make it.
(voice breaks) I remember we got a call saying That my dad had a liver candidate for transplant.
We were all excited that it was finally happening.
He went into surgery a little after 7:00.
Then at about 9:00, uh, one of the doctors from the surgical team came out.
(voice breaks) All he had to say was, "I'm sorry," and we all knew.
Uh, my dad died on February 3rd, 2011.
(sniffles) My mom lost her best friend.
She lost her companion.
(sniffles) She lost her part of her heart, and she hasn't been the same Since.
Ever since then, she's just been trying to just stay afloat.
She has medical bills, she has back taxes, and she can't even afford to pay her mortgage.
All that burden on top of it, I think, Has just has buried her.
There's so many memories stored away in the walls of that house, and losing that, for my mom, would be devastating.
My mom started a little league, dedicated hundreds of hours to the community, was a mom to kids, was a friend to everyone.
And all I want is for her to stay in the community that she helped build and to be able to live where all of her memories are, because, mom, you deserve it.
(applause) Clearly, uh, your mom Amy gave so much of herself to everybody else in that community.
With what she did, you know, influenced me tremendously to become a deputy sheriff and--and to give back to the community.
I'm--that's why I'm here.
I'm here to save that house.
I'm here to make sure she can stay in that community and--and stay where those memories are.

(laughter)
Well, I'm gonna help you do that today.
We're all gonna help you do that today.
You ready to go? I'm ready.
