007: Road to a Million (2023) s01e05 Episode Script

Episode 5

[tense music playing]
[Controller] You're standing
on one of Chile's most active volcanoes.
For 100,000 pounds,
the following terms are all real
and are taken
from the volcanic explosivity index.
Which of them describes
the biggest eruption?
Colossal.
Apocalyptic.
Cataclysmic.
[exhales gently] Immediately
- Immediately, what do you say?
- B.
Apocalyptic.
[Kamara] Or colossal.
[Josh] Colossal?
That's, like, earthquakes.
That's colossal damage. That's really bad.
Yeah, but I reckon
"colossal" is just the basic one.
- [Josh] It's
- [Kamara] Um
- [Josh] Apocalyptic
- [Kamara] Is the end of the world.
That's, like,
"Start all over again," apocalyptic.
That's, "Finished. Civilisation's done".
What you just said there
just ended the argument.
- We're not arguing.
- No, no.
- Yeah, I know.
- As in, what we're saying.
[groans]
What was "apocalypse"?
The end of the world.
If there's the end of the world,
then where are you gonna find volcanoes?
Cataclysmic
[Kamara]
Could that be something outer space?
- Do you know what I mean?
- No. It's
Why reference outer space
when you're talking about
biggest eruption,
a volcano eruption, what's the reference?
Because there are also volcanoes
out of space.
Mars has volcan Like, it's out of space.
Cataclysmic. Oh, shit.
- Do you get what I mean?
- That's a good point.
Ah, man, you always do this.
- [Kamara chuckles]
- [Josh sighs]
[sighs]
Seriously.
Sorry, bubs.
'Cause that's Yeah, that's a valid point.
Because the scientists can make reference
to shit that's popping off on
- Yeah, that's
- Neptune.
Yeah.
Ahh, man.
You've really thrown me now.
[Kamara] Cataclysmic, I just think that's
[Josh] Catastrophe.
Cataclysmic.
- Cata
- No, my gut goes with B, man.
I'm just going with B.
Is that because you're
because you know the word?
No, it's just because I think,
like, the reference
to apocalypse is
That's it. End of. [imitates slicing]
Yeah, but that's end of this world,
not necessarily the universe.
[Josh whispering] Catalyst for change.
[Kamara] Bubs
[sighs gently]
B.
I don't know.
Are you going with B?
[Kamara] Lets just do B, apocalyptic.
- B?
- I'm going with B.
- B?
- Yeah.
[Kamara] Apocalyptic.
[beeps]
[Controller] For 100,000 pounds,
you chose option B.
Your answer is
[tense instrumental music playing]
[music fades out]
- correct.
- Yes!
[emotive orchestral music playing]
- [Josh moans]
- [Kamara gasps] Oh, my god.
I just need I just need
I need to lie down. Oh, shit.
[Josh] We did it.
[Kamara] You did so well.
I'm so proud of you.
[grungy remix
of "James Bond Theme" playing]
[Grace] How long left? How many minutes?
[Daniella] Not long. Like, I don't know,
ten or something. Right.
[Daniella] Oh, Jesus Christ.
[Grace] Right. [sighs] This is it.
- [Daniella] That's the key.
- [Grace] Go!
- [wind whistling]
- [suspenseful instrumental music playing]
[Controller]
Beneath you is St. Mark's Square,
a triumph of Renaissance architecture.
One of the most visited landmarks
in the world.
Today it's overrun by tourists,
with their ice creams
and their flip-flops.
For 50,000 pounds,
how many tourists are said
to visit Venice every year?
One million. Ten million.
Twenty-five million.
Right.
- I mean
- I'm ruling one million out.
Yeah. Shot in the dark with that. It's
- Ten or 25.
- absolutely heaving.
And it said
that it's one of the most visited
[both] Places in the world.
- [Grace] What does your gut say?
- [Daniella sighs] 25 feels very large.
I don't know, maybe it is as high as that,
but I would go ten.
[Grace] I'd say ten as well. B.
[grunts anxiously] Yep. B.
[Daniella] This is when I get so stressed.
[both] Oh!
Oh, shame.
We did all right. It's fine to cry.
[Controller] I liked those two. Still
- [Tanaka] That's it!
- Let's go, let's go.
they got further than this pair.
- I just don't even know. I'd just go A.
- A?
- Yeah.
- [Tanaka sighs]
[Controller] They didn't know
what a stalactite was
- Oh, no, it's red.
- [Tanaka sighs]
and fell at the first.
But Colin and Danny, two best friends
from Essex, are still very much alive.
[Danny] Can you pull it?
[Danny] That's it, that's it.
[Danny] He said find the car.
[dogs barking aggressively]
Come behind me, hand on shoulder.
[Controller] I didn't know
Danny had a fear of dogs.
One, two.
[barking aggressively]
If I turn and run, you come with me.
[barking continues]
- I'm going over the car.
- What's that?
- I'm going over the car.
- Can you see the ca You see a case?
It's on top.
[dogs continue barking loudly]
- [Danny] You in?
- [Colin] Yeah.
Come on.
[case beeps and whines gently]
[Controller] In front of you
are four Turkish tarot cards.
This mystical practice is said to have
its origins here in the Middle East.
The idea is that the cards you pick
can tell your future.
But often in unexpected ways.
For 50,000 pounds, what meaning
can be given to all four of these cards?
Beginnings.
Decisions.
- Endings.
- [Colin sighs]
It's a dead body on the floor,
with ten swords on there.
- Yeah.
- He ain't getting up.
- Mm-hmm.
- That's not a beginning.
I don't know if it was his decision
to get those ten
on his back, but he's definitely ended.
- [Colin] Done something that's an end.
- Their decision to jump out of the castle?
[Colin] Could be,
but it's still the end, isn't it?
To
Well, don't know what they're landing on.
And here, can't see his or her face,
but the black coat
- Yeah.
- is it the Angel of Death?
[Danny] Um
Mm, hopefully this ain't our ending, but
- Should we just do it, just go for C?
- Going C.
- Yeah?
- Yeah.
- [Danny] Okay.
- All right.
[tube fizzles]
- [Colin] That's green, yeah?
- [Danny exclaims]
[Controller] Not bad.
Now, where are the Bone Brothers?
["Someone Was Here"
from No Time To Die playing]
[Glenroy] James, may I offer you a drink
or something to eat?
- [James] Is another cocktail possible?
- Coming right up.
- Perfect, cheers.
- You're welcome.
- Special delivery.
- Oh, thanks very much, Glenroy.
- You're welcome.
- That's lovely, mate. Cheers.
- [Joey] There we go.
- [James] Oh, hello.
That looks stunning.
So it's served with some coconut rice
and some sautéed veg.
- Lovely.
- Nice.
- That looks amazing.
- Pleasure is mine. Bon appétit.
[both] Thank you very much, mate.
[phone ringing in distance]
That's the phone.
Too good to be true, innit? [laughs]
- Come on.
- Let's go. Let's go.
Mate. Been absolutely ravenous.
Hello?
[Controller] Joey and James,
I'm afraid your moment of respite is over.
Respite's over.
- It's back to business.
- Back to business.
The next question is for 200,000 pounds.
Next question is 200 grand.
- To find it, go to Port Antonio.
- [James sighs]
Leave immediately.
We need to go to Port Antonio,
and we need to leave immediately.
[suspenseful string music playing]
I would've left school at 16,
so James would've been ten.
Did a bit of labouring work,
you know, sort of early twenties.
I started doing the Knowledge,
and I passed it.
I got a job as a London black cab driver.
I'd like to think that he's seen
the mistakes I've made and then, um
[laughing]and then changed the path.
I mean, he's got A levels
and he's got a degree,
and he's doing a Master's at the moment.
Are we turning left or right?
- Your shout.
- I think we go right.
[James] I've always admired Joe.
He's got a lovely family, beautiful kids.
He's always been more settled than me.
I've travelled around the world.
- I just wanted to be like, a free spirit.
- [horns honking]
- Let's go down that way.
- Down that way, yeah?
[Joey] Yeah, this is a bit different
from where we were earlier on, man.
[James] Hundred percent.
- [man] Yeah, man, I arrived this week.
- [Joey] Let's throw a left. Throw a left.
- Yeah?
- [loud bang]
- [Joey] Proper lively round here, mate.
- [phone chimes]
You got a message, mate.
"Good over evil."
"Good over evil"?
- Church?
- Don't know.
I mean, should we have a stroll
through the market?
- Good over evil?
- Good over evil.
And it's "good O-V-A evil."
Good over evil?
Good over evil,
you'll not get by round here.
Good over evil, we're looking for.
It's not a stall or something, is it?
[Joey]
Well, that's what it might be, a shop.
We have to find the place.
You know anywhere round here that's bad?
[Joey] Well, what's good over evil?
I think it's the name of a bar or a club.
- [James] Here you are! Ay!
- We got Wa-hey!
- [James] Get in there.
- We got it, man.
- Get in there.
- [Joey laughs]
- "Only God can judge me".
- [James] All right?
- [Joey] You all right?
- [James] How you doing?
[woman] Nice. How are you doing?
- [Joey] All good.
- [James] Ain't got Heineken, have you?
- [man] Yes, sir.
- [Joey] Can we get two Heinekens, please?
Hot or cold?
- Cold. Yeah.
- [Joey] Cold. Cold, please.
- [Joey chuckles] Good man. Thank you.
- [James] Nice one. What's your name?
- Dwayne.
- Dwayne.
- Dwayne.
- James.
- James. Nice to meet you.
- Good to meet you, mate. Joey.
- Do you have anything for us, or do you
- [Joey] We're looking
- [James] This is sweet as a nut.
- [Joey] Yeah, it's good.
[bottles clink]
- [James] Ah, happy days.
- [Joey] Thank you. Thanks, Dwayne.
- Whack it up here.
- [James] Quite heavy.
Theres a bit that's
Here we go.
Here we go.
[Joey] A laptop.
- [James] All right, ready?
- Ready to roll.
[laptop beeps and whines gently]
"Enter password."
- It's not "GOOD ova EVIL," is it?
- Try it.
- [tapping]
- [James] That's not having it.
[Joey] GoldenEye?
No, look, it's only go
- It's not letting us
- Is it only six six, uh
- There's only six digits. 'Cause that
- [phone chimes]
Here you are.
[James] Mother's date of birth.
Oi, oi. We know that.
- Do you?
- Be bad if we didn't.
- [laugh]
- [beeping]
[both in unison] Yes!
- [Joey] We are in.
- Get in there, boy.
[Joey whistles gently with surprise]
This ain't a question.
This is taking us somewhere else.
[beeping]
[Joey] We've gotta get to that catamaran.
We've gotta get to that catamaran.
Let's take a picture.
[Joey] Hit a picture on that phone, and
we'll try You know like we did in Brazil?
- Yeah.
- And try and match it up.
- [camera clicks]
- That looks like a harbour.
- Ask Dwayne. He might be able to help.
- Dwayne, could you help us?
Come and have a look at this, mate.
- Basically
- Do you recognise that?
- Yes, sir.
- we gotta find this place. Where is this?
- Is it
- [Dwayne] That is over by the marina.
- [James] The marina?
- [Dwayne] Yeah.
- Whereabouts is the marina?
- It's right over there.
- Yeah. Is it
- [Joey] What, ten-minute walk?
- And that's basically the harbour there?
- Maybe around five.
Five-minute walk?
So it's close? Good. Is it open now?
- No.
- Won't be open now?
- What, 'cause it's dark?
- Dark.
- What time's it open in the morning?
- Around 8:30 in the morning.
- About 8:30?
- All right, well, we'll get up like
- We'll get our nut down and then
- Let's get there early.
- Get our nut down.
- And we'll be able to see.
- We can see.
- Yeah, yeah, yeah. Dwayne.
Dwayne, thanks for your help, man.
Appreciate it.
[Controller] Yes, get your nut down, boys.
Where are the nurses?
All right? One leg over. That's it.
Gently. Then go really slow, Jen, yeah?
That's it,
just get your balance there first.
[Beth] That's it.
Just slow.
[tense instrumental music playing]
[Jen] It's hard! [breathes heavily]
[grunts, yelps]
Okay?
[breathing heavily]
If you grip the case with your legs, Jen,
it will hold it still.
[Jen grunts]
- [Jen] Okay.
- [Beth] Yeah?
- Got it.
- You good? Coming back?
Do you wanna swing your legs up?
[grunting]
[Jen] Keep pulling.
[harness rattling]
[Jen]
I've got no strength left in my arms.
Right, hang on. I'm gonna try
and see if I can use my body.
[grunting]
- [Jen yelps]
- [Beth] All right?
- [Jen] Got it.
- I don't wanna let go of anything.
[Beth] Oh, sorry.
[both grunting]
- [Beth] You up?
- Yeah.
[Beth] Fair play, mate.
- You all right? You feel safe?
- Yeah.
Do you wanna lift the case up, and then
we can get that off you, the weight?
- [Jen] Oh, my God.
- Okay, hang on.
- Just take a second to get your breath.
- [breathing heavily]
- All right?
- That was tough.
Bloody hell. Fair play.
[continues breathing heavily]
Well done, buddy.
- [chuckles softly] That was hard.
- Yeah.
A lot harder
than I thought it was gonna be.
Yeah.
Well done.
[case clicks and beeps]
[Jen] Okay. [exhales] I hate this bit.
[Beth] I hate this bit.
[Controller] Istanbul was once home to
one of Britain's most notorious traitors.
In 1947, Kim Philby was head
of British intelligence operations
in Turkey.
But he was also a double agent.
In the years that followed,
he was betraying his country.
For 50,000 pounds,
who was he passing secrets to?
The Soviets.
The Germans.
The Chinese.
- Don't even know who that is.
- No, I don't.
Um
[Jen] So, after World War II,
would the Soviets and the Brits
have been on the same side?
Because Russia and the UK were allies
- in World War II, weren't they?
- Yeah.
- So, it was The Germans were the enemy.
- Yeah.
Yeah, 'cause the Cold War
hadn't really started then.
- It started after World War II.
- Yeah.
But it probably really wasn't
Well, I don't think
it was setting in by that point.
Yeah.
- Yeah, I don't think it's the Soviets.
- Yeah.
[Jen] Just feel like the Germans
is gonna be too obvious.
- [Beth] Do you think?
- [Jen sighs]
The Chinese, what would have been
the benefit in 1947 to the Chinese?
- [Jen] I hate it when we don't know.
- I know. I know, I know.
[Jen] Can we listen to the question?
[Beth] Yeah, let's listen again,
just so we can check.
- [laptop beeps]
- [Controller] In 1947,
Kim Philby was head of British
intelligence operations in Turkey.
But he was also a double agent.
In the years that followed
- "The years that followed".
- he was betraying his country.
- In 1947, in the years the followed.
- [Jen] Mm.
I'm thinking not Germans now,
because it would've ended.
- It was in the years that followed.
- Yeah, I think Germans is too obvious.
It makes me err more towards things
When you think of double agents,
- you do think Russia.
- Mm.
And I don't really think there's been
much going on with the Chinese.
- No.
- And the British
- passing stuff to the Chinese.
- Yeah.
[Beth] I'm leaning towards the Soviets
if I'm honest.
No, me too. Me too.
Because of the Cold War.
Yeah.
- Should we do it?
- [sighs] Well, yeah.
- Nothing else we can think Yeah?
- No.
[Beth] So, A, the Soviets,
that's what we're saying?
- Yeah?
- Yeah.
- [Beth] A?
- Yeah.
We're as sure as we're ever gonna be,
which is maybe
[Beth sighs]
- ish, but
- Right.
Together?
- One.
- One.
[in unison] Two, three.
[flare crackles]
- Oh, please, please, please.
- [both gasp]
[both laughing]
[suspenseful, rhythmic music playing]
- [Jen] Look at the size of these pieces.
- I know!
[Beth] This is it. Nice.
[Beth] Have a look at the map again,
tell me what are our landmarks.
There aren't any, really,
apart from this road.
And then there's a right turn for Balbina,
and then head along the river,
keeping the river on our right.
Okay.
- [Jen] So I think we've got a way to go.
- But jungle awaits.
[Jen] Me and Beth met in 2018
when she was interviewing me for a job.
We realised we had a lot in common
and we had very similar personalities,
and we just clicked straight away.
But we haven't spent a week together
before.
We've not even spent a weekend together.
I think we probably will learn a lot
about each other on this trip.
[Jen] Where's the scariest place
you've ever been?
You realise in some
of the more remote places
that I've been to
that you're very, very isolated.
When I was working in the outback
and people would turn up with bits
- hanging off, and they've walked
- Mm.
25 kilometres to you,
and you're thinking,
- "How are you still alive?" [chuckles]
- Mm.
[Beth] What about you?
- I suppose Afghanistan, really.
- Yeah?
Yeah, we had a time when we were flying
between Bastion and Kandahar,
- transporting patients.
- Yeah.
And then it went bang,
and smoke started coming out the back
and it started wobbling.
And I thought we were gonna go down.
They were saying we might make
an emergency landing in the desert.
"So, make your rifles ready, everyone,
in case the Taliban are there."
- No way.
- Um, the thing is,
I didn't didn't panic at all.
It was really strange.
I was completely calm.
And I remember just thinking in disbelief,
"I can't believe I'm gonna die.
I can't believe this is it.
I haven't had the opportunity
to say bye to family."
So, I was just completely numb.
[gentle, emotive string music playing]
But, as it turned out, which I didn't
know at the time, helicopters have
more than one engine, so they managed
to turn it round and get back to Bastion.
As soon as we landed,
I started hyperventilating.
- A bit of shock.
- Had a mini panic attack.
- Yeah.
- Which I've never had before or since.
And my friend came over, pulled
my body armour off me, gave me some water.
And then they just loaded us all up
onto another helicopter,
and off we went. But
So, from almost crash-landing,
thinking you might be having to use
the rifle, they put you straight back
on a helicopter and you got up again?
Yeah, but that's a good thing
because otherwise
Like getting straight back
on the horse, isn't it?
[bright acoustic music playing]
First stop Scotland, second stop Italy.
Third stop looks like Mars.
I've never been anywhere like this
in my whole life, Dad.
[James] Get to a certain altitude
and there's nothing living.
[Sam chuckles]
[James]
You just get this arid, barren land,
and it does, it looks like
you're on a different planet.
[Sam] Are we still going
in the correct direction?
[James] Yep.
Three klicks, and we're there.
There's not even, like, a cactus.
- No.
- Absolutely zero.
[James] I'm glad that we're creating
these memories of this adventure together.
You know, for the last 14, 15 years,
I've worked offshore,
and I miss them when I'm away.
Every parent wants to have done
a better job, you know?
I just think of the things that I regret.
You know, I could've done that better,
I wish I had handled that differently.
So, I hope that my son looks up to me
and is able to remember
and focus on all the good stuff,
and hopefully he can be forgiving of the
the times that I wasn't
such a great parent.
[James] All right. That's us.
Full stop here, we're right on top of it.
[Sam] There's not much out here. Hmm.
- [James] Now what?
- Don't know.
[Sam] Hmm.
What is that?
[Sam] I think it's moving.
- Can you see it?
- Yeah, I think it's coming towards us.
[James] That could be our ride
for the next stage.
- [Sam] You think so?
- Don't know.
[Sam] Maybe it's a train or something.
'Cause I think that is train tracks
running along there.
[horn blaring]
- Is he beeping us?
- I think he is. [chuckles]
- [phone beeps]
- [Sam] Oh.
I think there's a text here.
- [chuckles]
- Get on the train.
Get on the train.
Right, okay. Is that it?
Is that all it says?
- There's nothing else.
- Oh, shit.
[horn blares]
[tense instrumental music playing]
- [Sam] I don't think he's stopping.
- He
- [James] He's gonna have to stop.
- [horn blaring]
[James] Get on at the back.
Grab on to the handles.
- [Sam] We're Nice.
- Come on, man. Come on.
- [Sam grunts]
- Yes!
- I didn't think we were gonna make that.
- Yeah. That was pretty tough.
[Sam] Close call, eh?
- It's gotta be for us.
- Yeah. I guess so.
[James] Walkie-talkies.
Oh, they're gonna split us up.
Okay.
Ah, bastards!
[James] Oh, Sam. Harness.
[chuckling] No way.
- [James] Yeah.
- [phone beeps]
[Sam] I got a buzz.
- It just says, "Front carriage".
- Front carriage.
[train screeching and rattling]
- [Sam] Oh, wow.
- [James] One of us is gonna have to
go over the roof.
[exhales nervously]
[Sam] So, we just need to know
what's in the first carriage.
[James] I'll go.
[Sam] You'll go? I'm nervous.
- [James laughs, then yells]
- We got it, we got it. We got got it.
We got it. It's dangerous, though.
You know, the one thing that I always said
is, I don't want us to get separated.
- I know. I know. It's nerve-racking.
- [sighs]
- You got it, Dad. You got it.
- Come here.
[both chuckling]
[James] I'm bricking it.
- Good luck.
- Thanks, son.
[tense instrumental music playing]
[James breathing heavily]
I'm coming to the end
of the first carriage.
I wish you were doing this now.
[James over radio] Okay, Sam,
I've made it to the second carriage.
[grunts heavily]
[breathing heavily]
All the dust is in my eyes. I can't see.
[grunts heavily]
[breathing heavily]
[James] I'm struggling, mate.
It's hard work.
[Sam] Dad, I'm glad you're doing it.
Okay, Dad, you got this. Come on.
[groans]
[Sam] You can do anything.
[grunts heavily]
[James Bond-esque string music playing]
Right, I can see the front carriage.
I can see the front carriage.
I totally believed in you, Dad. Well done.
[exhales]
I made it.
I made it. I'm here.
Is anything standing out? No?
We've got keys for a Volkswagen.
Possibly a house key.
"9:00 a.m.", it says
on the back of the postcard.
It says on the postcard, "Maria Elena".
I'm guessing, get ourselves
to Maria Elena by 9:00 a.m.
[Joey sighs] Let's have a butcher's
at them pictures that you took.
What do you think?
Well, it's in between the two headlands,
innit? There's a few around. Let's
[James] You got that one there,
but it looks like that.
[Joey] I'm thinking it's going out to open
ocean, innit? Which is easy out there.
[Controller] Morning, boys.
Big day.
[James] Is there any way that we could
get a lift over there with you guys?
No. All these boats are for rent, sir.
What about if we paid you some money to
Just to spin us out there,
just take us out there.
- I won't be the one driving you out there.
- What, we drive ourselves?
No, I don't got time for that.
I got shit doing.
So, I could give you that one,
but you'd have to take it by yourself.
Just go straight ahead.
- That's the catamaran there.
- Yeah, I think so.
I think that's the one.
[Joey] Pull it left a bit, Jimmy.
[James] What is going on here?
[Joey] Mate, this is
a proper sunken wreck.
[James] I thought we were getting
- straight on it and going somewhere.
- Ain't going anywhere on that.
[Joey] Keep it coming, keep it coming.
- [James] That's it. That's it.
- That's it.
[James] Here you go.
[echoing] It don't smell too clever.
I know that.
In there. How long's this been here,
mate, couple of years or something?
[James] I wonder whether there's a key
or something for that.
- Here you are, this opens up.
- Go on.
Ay!
[Joey] Yeah, hey!
- That's all.
- [Joey] Good man, good man.
- Proper gear.
- [Joey] Flippers.
[James] There's a knife there. Jesus.
Oh, mate. Oh, mate.
We've got a load of keys as well.
- [phone chimes]
- Oh.
[Controller]
The next question is for 200,000 pounds.
It looks as though
you're going for a little swim.
Did you know
that an average untrained human can
hold their breath for up to 90 seconds?
Anyway, good luck.
- [James] I think that's it.
- [Joey] I think that's it. It's, like,
- a Perspex box, innit?
- To cut with a knife.
[Joey] Yeah, grab the knife
- Yeah.
- and open up that webbing.
[tense instrumental music playing]
I'm doing fuck all.
Soon as I get down there,
I'm out of breath.
Here.
- Whew!
- All right?
- [laughs] I'm at my limit for the moment.
- It's hard, innit?
Like yoga, just breathe.
- Why can't I hold my breath so long?
- It's hard, man.
- I cut it.
- Yeah, it looks like you opened it a bit.
- There is. There's a padlock this side.
- Yeah, I saw
- As I hit the front.
- I thought so.
We'll just keep doing what we've gotta do.
Yeah. We'll find a way.
- Simple as that.
- Find a way.
There's 200 grand in that,
you know what I mean?
[keys jingle]
Don't think it's that one.
Hard work, this.
- Something feels right.
- Yeah?
[James burbles, then splutters]
- It didn't go straight in.
- I just don't think I can go back down.
My ears have gone to pieces.
Don't worry, I'll just keep going.
It's all good.
- Whoo!
- You got it?
Well done, boy. Well done, son.
[exhaling]
- There's two padlocks.
- Is there?
One's a combination lock.
There's three numbers.
- [Joey] 007?
- 007?
I mean, that's what I would go for
first of all.
Shall I give it a go?
- Whoo!
- Well done, boysie!
Get in there, boy! Come on.
Wa-hey, boy!
There's two.
Two?
- I'm getting cramp in my leg.
- Jesus.
[Joey] What's he doing to us?
He is making it difficult.
If I even try and use my brain,
I'll need to lie down.
[Joey] We'll just get
We'll get it back onto the cat
and then try and engage the brain.
Well done on that, mate.
Tell you what, that is one of the hardest
things I've done in a while.
That was something else.
[case beeps and whines gently]
- [James] Bloody hell. [laughs]
- [Joey] Ah!
- [Joey] Rum.
- What's all that about?
[Controller]
Jamaica offers many pleasures.
One of them is this stuff.
It's one of Jamaica's finest examples.
Each has its own unique tasting notes.
For 200,000 pounds,
- what are its defining notes?
- [James snickers]
Hickory and black pepper.
Leather and plum.
Caramel and spice.
- I have absolutely no idea. I mean
- What does it say on the bottle?
"Jamaican rum."
- [James] Do you know what, I don't know.
- Hick Hickory
- I don't know anything
- Hickory is a wood.
Yeah?
And, obviously, the barrels have
are made of wood, aren't they?
I swear that they're made of, like, a
It could be hickory wood.
Hickory barrels. So
Pepper, I've never, ever heard
someone talk about pepper with rum.
Yeah. Would you think of Would you
Black pepper is lovely on food,
but drinking it?
Leather and plum doesn't It [scoffs]
- Again, I ain't got a clue, but it, like
- Where would leather come into a drink?
Why I mean,
leather doesn't taste nice, does it?
- I
- Would you eat a fucking shoe?
I mean, the idea that leather
would be in a drink.
Although, could the
could it be transported
Could the barrels have
leather straps round 'em?
And it's a note, isn't it?
A note is is a
[sighs] I mean, I'm sort of blagging this
because I'm not a wine
or a spirit drinker,
- but a note, it's just a hint of it.
- Should we just give it a blast?
[Joey] Would it be wrong in sampling it?
No, that's right. Good thinking, Batman.
It's definitely spicy.
[groans] I hate drinks like this.
[coughs]
Sorry, I'm not a whisky man, but
- Or a rum man.
- Or
- Or any of 'em. [laughs]
- I don't like dark spirits.
- You're a Stella man.
- Lager, I can handle.
Not liquor.
- [exhales]
- It's fucking spicy, though.
- Yeah, it's spicy.
- Hoo!
But is that a pe Is that
Like, the bit on your tongue,
is that pepper? [sniffs]
[James] When you smell it
When you smell it properly,
there does You
Like, it does smell of, like
I don't know whether it's caramel
or something, but it does smell
of, like, a [sniffs]
Like, look,
there's a definite whiff of, like
- Yeah, sweetness.
- Like, 100% that is like
Through the bottle, it does.
- When you really smell it.
- Yeah, go on.
[sniffs]
Yeah. Smells like a pack of sweets.
Do you know what I mean?
We're ruling out leather and plum.
- Yeah. I think we're gonna go C, are we?
- Yeah? Rule out leather and plum.
[James] Like you say,
hickory, that could be something.
[Joey] It's definitely
Definitely smells sweet, doesn't it?
[sniffing]
I think that's gotta be something like
- Yeah, it definitely smells sweet.
- I feel like we gotta go C.
[Joey] Yeah, I'm with you.
[James] Even the colour of it
is closer to caramel than pepper.
- Yeah.
- It's dark It's brown, you know.
We're talking ourselves into it, ain't we?
The more we drink, the more we're talking
ourselves into it. Caramel's sweet.
Made of sugar.
Sugarcane, sugar plantations in Jamaica.
So I think it's C.
[phone buzzes]
[Controller] 200,000 pounds,
such a lot of money.
Life-changing.
I can only imagine the pressure
you must be feeling.
So So, let me ask you
are you sure about your answer?
Are you 200,000 pounds sure?
Well?
Are you?
["Square Escape"
from No Time To Die playing]
