Expedition Impossible (2011) s01e05 Episode Script
A Blind Man’s Nightmare
more than just sand dune.
[Singsongy.]
I'm in Morocco and it's freezing.
Early friendships begin to form.
[Man.]
We definitely feel in a stronger affinity for those Gipsies.
I can almost see a little bit of myself in them.
The California Girls got strengthen on that challenge.
I don't know if we're gonna make it But were rescued by the heroic New York Firemen.
Now I can throw? There was just no way I could've left t is girl there.
I think she might've still been there.
Thank you.
(Brittany) I'm absolutely loving the firefighters.
Fab 3 hit rock-bottom.
(Kari) Just do it.
I know my body.
I know what it feels like.
Would you just relax? (Crying) We have, like, one shot at this.
So I don't care that you're sick.
In the end, the undefeated Gypsies came out on top You're the winners of stage four of the expedition.
And as both teams gasped for air I feel like I'm breathing in a bag.
The air's so thin.
The Country Boys edged out Team Kansas.
Your expedition's over.
You're going home.
Nine teams remain.
Who will be evacuated tonight? Welcome to Toulkhine village, and the fifth stage of the expedition.
This will be a 2-day stage.
There's nine teams left.
Gypsies, you've won four in a row.
Congratulations.
Your first checkpoint can be found southwest of this village, at an artist's tent.
Find the artist, and you'll find your map.
And one more thing As a little incentive, the first team to reach the overnight camp will get a chance to hear from their loved ones.
I miss my wife and kid a lot, so everybody in front of me just better I'm coming.
We're coming hard.
We're gonna charge now.
Gypsies, you're in first place.
Your expedition continues Now.
- Which way? - This is southwest, right? Yep.
Salaam.
(John) Gypsies are strong! Strong as ever.
We're feeling really good.
We're consistently winning.
We're gonna make sure that we keep our focus and that we continue to win.
Cut left.
Up here.
Here.
New York fire, No Limits, Football Players, your expedition continues now.
(Man grunts) It felt great to finally be in the second pack.
I mean, the whole time we've been doing great with the physical stuff, but these challenges have been killing us.
So I feel if we can start getting better at those, we're definitely gonna be one of the front-runner teams.
Fishermen, California Girls, Fab 3, cops, Country Boys, your expedition continues Now.
(Kari) Come on, A.
J.
nice work.
A.
J.
's been sick and lagging the past few days, and I've definitely been the leader, but it's hard 'cause I'm super competitive.
I-I do not want to go home.
Come on, A.
J.
"To find your next checkpoint, "find the map outside the artist's tent and use a henna pen to copy it on the skin of a teammate.
" Teams will now partake in one of Morocco's oldest Art forms The Art of Henna.
Using traditional henna techniques, teams must duplicate their entire map to their next checkpoint on a body part of a teammate.
(Eric) I'll be the map.
All right, you guys wanna use my back? What do you wanna use? (John) Unh-unh.
I wanna use your front.
Right here.
It's kinda hairy.
Doesn't matter.
All right, where's the map? Get the map.
Right right here.
All maps are exactly the same.
I see a big map, uh, laid out, and the only way to remember the directions is to draw a huge henna map on Eric's chest, through all his little chest hair and everything.
Is the hair gonna be a problem? Just don't sweat.
(Chuckles) - Looks good to me.
- Yep.
I have to say, I haven't really been that close to his chest before.
This is when it would be nice to have one woman on your team.
(John chuckles) "To find your next checkpoint, find the map outside the artist's tent" Come here.
Come here.
"And use the henna pen to copy it on the skin of a teammate.
" (Kevin) Uh, when we got to the henna spot, a lot of teams were close, and it was, like, us, The Gypsies, No Limits, the Football Players.
We were all within, like, a cluster.
Don't we want to follow this? No, that's our trail, trending northeast.
I'm starting right here.
Tent.
(Mike) Pull it up.
(Man) The larger the area the better.
Yeah.
(Mike) - How's going? (Man) - Dirt road.
What does the instructions say? - Too sweaty? - Just stay.
Just stay.
Listen, guys, we're gonna do three river, turn to the left.
(Kevin) Rob, start drawing somethin'.
I'm the biggest guy, so we figured that that would That would be the biggest surface to draw the map on.
I really didn't even feel it, to be honest with you.
How we lookin'? (Laughs) "Morocco is famous for henna tattoos" "To find your next checkpoint, find the map outside the artist's tent" "And use a henna pen to copy it on the skin of a teammate.
" Look for a map.
So we gotta find a map somewhere.
(Man) Yeah, everyone's here together.
(Kari) When we strolled up to do the henna, it was a little chaotic.
There were a lot of teams there, and, you know, guys were all taking their shirts off.
I'm not mad at the Football Players.
(Laughs) Let's go.
Crossing a dirt road.
- Got it? (Taylor) - Done.
Yep.
Having tattooed their map onto their bodies, teams must navigate six miles toward the atlas mountains to the mouth of the petrified canyon, where they will face a daunting 200-foot wet rappel.
All right, let's go.
- Come on, dude.
(Erik) - Let's go.
Ho.
Keep it up.
(Ryan) "Follow the tattoo to find your next location.
" (A.
J.
) She's showing the most skin out of any of us, so we're using her leg.
(Man) Legend and everything, Joe.
You gotta write all the words, everything.
I hope it doesn't melt off.
Just write "300 Y-D-S.
" We gotta put everything on there, guys.
We're gonna have to do her leg.
You can't abbreviate.
(Brittany) We decided my stomach would probably be the best place for it, but it was a very small space, so, yeye, we had to start over.
Go ahead and sit.
Give me a new pen.
Get a pen.
We're seriously starting over right now? Okay, let's go.
Let's go.
What about the mountains, Joe? I got all the mountains.
All right, that's it.
Just get it right this time.
(Robert) Jim, Dani, let's go.
(Sniffles) We're in last now.
Everybody just left, so we're the only ones here.
We gotta get going.
(Natalie) Okay, I'm done.
Let's go.
We gotta catch up.
Let's go.
The lead teams are The Gypsies and No Limits.
(Erik) You know, being blind, I'm just taking it day by day.
You know, we've been over hundreds of miles of, like, really difficult terrain, and, um, I'm just really exhausted.
Man, it just makes me homesick.
(Chuckles) (Jeff) Let's just be as efficient as we can be.
I have a 10-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy, so it's tough to be away.
I'm starting to, you know, count the the days till I'm home again.
Rounding out the lead are the Football Players and New York Firemen.
I know my body don't like me right now, but it's mind over matter.
We're not, uh, three triathletes as you can all look at and see.
You know, we don't have body by Jake.
We've got body by bud.
The middle teams The Fishermen, The Cops I'm sporting a really sweet tattoo now.
It's probably gonna stay on there for about three months.
And Fab 3 Jockey for position.
Right, A.
J.
's sick, but sweat it out of him today.
(Kari) Let's go, A.
J.
all the other teams are catching up.
'Cause I can't stand people passing us.
I literally am gonna lose my mind.
I wanna go so much faster, and I have to hold back, and it drives me crazy.
Like, I could literally be with The Gypsies right now.
I know I could.
Let's go, A.
J.
I feel bad that I'm not keeping up like I was in the earlier stages.
You know, Ryan's struggling with a knee injury, and he's still pressing forward.
Um, I'm a healthy guy, so hopefully, I'll be able to bounce back.
The Country Boys and California Girls look to make up ground after falling to the back.
We're currently in last, but we're catching up with some teams ahead of us.
(Water running) I can't believe we're about to go down this.
(Taylor) Yeah, this is rad.
(John) Football Players coming up behind us right now.
This looks familiar.
I will not let rappel defeat me.
Oh! You gotta admit, this stuff is a little scary.
(Coughs) All right, boys, let's go.
(Robert o.
) Look at him! Oh, man.
Look it.
Oh! Oh, no! No! He's got special training here.
Special forces.
Who the hell do you think you are? Rambo? Oh! Oh! Oh! (Jeff) You're halfway down the Mountain.
Keep going.
Good, good, good, good, good.
Come on.
You're doing a You're doing a great job.
Come to me.
Right here.
Oh! Oh! (Akbar) Erik would be the ultimate athlete.
What he's doing is unparalleled.
It's I've never seen anything like it.
(Grunts) I've played with the likes of Jerry Rice, Tim Brown, Ladainian Tomlinson, and I can tell you right now With all due respect to those guys He's a far better athlete than those guys because he's navigating in the dark.
I've never seen it done before, ever.
(Panting) (Jeff) You got about another 50 feet.
Go a little right.
Go a little right if you can.
(Erik) You want to be able to look down and see where you're stepping, and I can't do that, so I just have to kinda Great job.
Scoot myself down and make sure I don't lose my balance.
I can slip and slide and trip and stumble and land on my feet 99% of the time, but it just takes that 1%.
Turn around.
Let me get you off.
Having reached the bottom, teams must now follow the hazardous petrified canyon pass to find their next checkpoint.
Back at the top, nerves set in as middle teams push themselves over the edge.
Uh, a little scared, but I'm gonna do it.
Don't look at nothing.
Just go down.
I think about my family, going down them ropes, and I a lot of people depend on me back home, and, I mean, nobody could support my family if I get hurt, so I gotta be careful out there.
(Man) Keep it back there.
That's your brake, not your red thing.
(Ryan) Pull on the rope.
(Kari) I didn't start rappelling till we started this whole expedition, but A.
J.
's been really sick and with Ryan's knee injury, I honestly just keep my mouth shut and just kinda lead the way and just get through it.
Slippery.
(Panting) Let's go, A.
J.
go.
Go.
Okay? I'm slipping.
Now firmly in last place, Brittany, from California Girls, can't find her footing (Groans) This is slippery! As the remaining teams set off towards their next checkpoint.
You're doing great, Britt! (Crying) (Christina) Is she okay? Ugh! She just slipped a little bit.
Her feet came under her.
(Groans) It's gonna affect us big-time.
I mean, I don't even see the other teams right now.
(Speaks indistinctly) I she's saying something, but I can't hear her.
You guys, I'm not looking down! Ugh! You guys, I'm not looking down! Ugh! You're doing great, Britt! This is slippery! After slipping to last place, the California Girls slowly make their way to the bottom of the rappel Oh, ho ho! (Woman) Let's go! (Woman) We got some catching up to do.
While the remaining teams continue to trek through the wet, narrow canyon on the way to their next checkpoint.
(Laughs) Whoo! The Gypsies are in the lead, followed closely by the Football Players, who are determined to check in first and receive the reward from home.
Oh! I have these two urging appetites One is to see my family again, and the other is to beat The Gypsies and be the number one team.
We've got our eyes on the prize, and we can smell it.
(Man) Showtime.
(Man) Aw, man.
Meanwhile, The Cops surge past the New York Firemen and No Limits.
Up we go.
Up.
(Jeff) When we started out this morning, I had intentions of really going hard.
I just didn't know what kind of terrain we were gonna have in front of us, and it turns out it was just the kind of terrain that Erik just has such a hard time on.
Okay, you're good.
Grab my pack.
It's river rocks, just big boulders, and they're loose and they move, and the step-downs.
Up we go.
It was like blind man's purgatory.
Good, good, good.
You're with me.
You're with me.
Slippery slab.
Slippery slab.
The Fab 3, the Fishermen Back this way, buddy.
We gotta go upstream.
(Man) Come on.
Get over here.
And Country Boys Oh! Also have trouble as they navigate through the watery hazards.
Not over yet.
Not over yet.
Here it is.
All righty.
"Welcome to petrified canyon, where locals make a living finding ancient fossils.
" Teams must now comb the riverbed, amongst a sea of rocks, to find one of the rarest fossils in Morocco A fish fossil.
Once they've found a fossil, teams must carry it half a mile to a local market, where they will trade it in r a fish dinner.
We look around, and it's just all rocks everywhere, I mean, just hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of rocks on the rock bed.
They all look exactly the same.
It could've taken forever.
Fish fossil.
I wish it gave us, like, a size or something.
"Only when you have found the fish fossil may you head to your next checkpoint.
" Start digging.
Boy, you're talking about a needle in a haystack.
(Man) I know.
This is not a fish, is it? (Man) I don't know.
What kind of fish were they looking for? A piranha? (Panting) (Eric) It's gonna be in a rock, right? It's not gonna be something we have to dig for.
(Taylor) Yeah, yeah.
It's a rock.
(John) We're just looking for a fossil.
Got it.
Got it.
Got it? Got it? Nice.
Nice! That was lucky.
(Laughs) Let's go.
What's next? (Akbar) The Gypsies took off before us.
We were a little flustered.
We stayed calm, and we just grinded it out.
(Groans) Oh, boy.
Come on.
Why are there so many rocks? They call this place Morocco because of rocks! Got it.
Booyah.
(Man) Let's go.
(Akbar) Go, go, go, go, go, go.
Just go.
Booyah! (Akbar) All right.
Jeez.
Nice.
Football gone? Yep.
The Football Players were right in front of us, and I felt like they were within our grasp.
The whole difficult part about this challenge is that it's an equalizer.
Every team could pass you.
- Fire's here.
- I hate these challenges.
We hustle to get here and always lose it in the challenge.
(Dani) Found one! (Jim) Yeah! All right, good, Dani.
Bring it up.
Let's go.
(Man) Oh, look.
Here's the fish.
(Man) Here we go.
The fish is right here.
We'll trade you a fish for a fish.
Mmm! Poisson.
Merci.
(Man) - Nice.
Shokran.
Having earned their dinner, teams will now trek a half mile upstream to overnight camp, where the first team to check in will receive a special reward from home.
(Men speaking arabic) My man, give me some fish, please.
What is that? Is that a piranha? (Speaks arabic) Sure.
(Speaking arabic) Whoa! One catch.
Oh! Yeah! Mwah.
(Panting) (Akbar) We gon' get 'em.
We're gonna get 'em.
(Dave) Nice work, guys.
Nice work, Gypsies.
Nice work.
You've made it to the halfway point of stage five of the expedition.
As a reward for finishing first, I've got a special treat for you guys.
You'll be able to head over to your Ford explorer, and through the technology of sync and myford touch, you get a special video message from home.
Actually, uh, we know there's a team out there that really wants to talk to their family, and if we can, we want to give it to another team.
Are you guys starting to get that tight a bond with these guys where th Where you're willing to give away rewards like this? Yeah.
You know, we thought that it would just be a-a nice gesture, and, uh, we all just agreed.
We didn't even really need to talk about it.
It was just unfortunate that we could only give it to one team.
Football Players, nice work.
(Robert) We knew that we were second place, so we lost that opportunity to speak to our families.
It just hits you dead in your heart because we haven't talked to our families yet.
Being Football Players, we're not supposed to be sentimental and all, but, you know, we're human, too.
The Cops.
Whew! Put 'er there.
Nice job.
What's up, man? How are ya? (Mike) We're close, guys, we're close.
Look around.
You got anything? (Man whistles) I believe we found it.
All right! (Jeff) Got it.
Let's go.
Let's go.
Let's go.
Let's go, Go, go, go.
(Rob) I guess after about 15 minutes, we found the fossil.
We were trying to keep in pace with No Limits, and we all kind of just decided that we didn't need it for the next step.
Let's go.
(Kevin) We didn't think we had to keep the rock.
I actually asked the other team, and No Limits was, like, "nah, I left mine," so I was like, all right.
(Whistles) And I threw it into the river.
(Singing in arabic) (Man) Fish.
Fish.
Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! (Speaks arabic) (Rob) We went into the fish market to try to haggle with the fisherman to try to get the fish, which is when we realized we needed that fossil.
What do we need? (Speaking arabic) What are we trading him? How about a G.
P.
S.
? (Jeff) I tried to trade him the G.
P.
S.
I tried to trade him my compass.
Wanna look and see how pretty you are? (Speaks arabic) He wasn't having any of it, so I thought about just taking a fish and running.
That was my That was the redneck in me.
This is (Bleep), man.
We were (Bleep).
We all did the work.
We did our work.
This is (Bleep), man.
We were (Bleep).
We all did the work.
We did our work.
(Rob) We realized we needed the fossil, and that hurt because we we've been working so hard and it was just It was just brutal.
We gotta retrack, go all the way back to Where we found the fish fossil, because apparently, you need that to move on to the next stage.
These challenges just aren't working out.
Forced to retrace their steps, No Limits and the New York Firemen suffer a heavy blow while teams in the middle continue to gain ground.
(Man) I'm looking for a fish.
I can't find fish on the rocks.
I find them in the ocean.
(Man) Firemen, you're still here? We had to come back.
We threw our rock out.
Make sure you take your rock with ya.
(Ryan) Oh, my God, I found it.
(Man) Go.
Go.
(Chad) Let's go.
Let's go.
The middle teams leave No Limits and New York Firemen to restart the challenge, while the California Girls lag behind in last place.
(Natalie) It's a little frustrating for me, knowing that we're still in last place.
I've always been competitive.
I'm one of those "bear down and go get it" kinda ladies.
And the team aspect is very different because you're only as strong as your weakest player.
I don't want to start yelling at my teammates, but inside I was like, "let's go! Let's go! We're in a competition!" (Man speaking arabic) Oh, yeah! Yay! (Speaking arabic) Which one? (A.
J.
) For you? Ah! Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thanks! (Ryan) Thank you.
Nice work, guys.
Come on across, guys.
(A.
J.
) We made some smart choices today.
But Kari wasn't patient at all.
She wanted us to run the entire time.
I kept telling her today, I said, "Kari, just be steady and be smart," and it paid off.
You are the fourth team to check in to the overnight camp.
She needs to trust her big brother a little bit more often and give him a little bit more credit.
We were able to pass the firemen and No Limits, which is huge.
(Man) - Dave, I caught a fish for ya! - All right.
(Laughs) I figured I could count on you guys.
Those are not the Country Boys smiles I am used to.
(Laughs) Right here, right now.
Duck.
Oh! Ooh! (Laughs) (Jeff) Today was a pretty hard day, and we made a lot of mistakes, which, first of all, doesn't make me very happy.
But also, when we started out this morning, Dave told us that there was something really valuable at the halfway point for the winners.
So there's no way we're gonna get that reward at the end.
We've had some really good days and we've been firing on all cylinders, and today was a day where the wheels fell off a little bit for us.
(All panting) New York fire, that fish is dinner.
Why don't you head into camp? No Limits, I want you to stick around for a second.
Well, guys, um, The Gypsies, they came in first today, but they opted to give their reward to you guys.
(Ike) Nice.
I know you guys have had a rough day, so this loved one reward comes at a critical time.
Thanks to The Gypsies, you'll get a personal family video from home.
(Ike) Well, thank you, Gypsies.
Dave directs us over to the Ford that's sitting there, and so we all go get in.
We're not sure what's about to happen.
(Singsongy) - Greetings from Kansas! - Oh, that's my girl.
(Normal voice) I'm doing pretty good here.
Just miss you.
All of a sudden, the video screen pops up, and, uh, there's Sarah.
There's Ike's Sarah.
I wish dad was home.
I'm bored.
(Sniffles) (Laughs) (Laughs) And then Erik's kids, Emma and Arjun, got on.
It it made me well up just watching that, you know.
(Both) Go, daddy, go! Go, daddy, go! (Laughs) All of a sudden, the image pops up and it's, uh, my little boy Jace and my wife Merry Beth.
There was a lot of love coming through on that video.
You know, I miss them desperately.
(Phone rings) Whoa.
(Ring) - Hello? (Jace) - Hey.
Dad? - Is that my boy? - Yes, sir.
(Jeff) The phone rings in the vehicle, and then I could hear my little boy's voice, uh, talking to me.
- Hey, girl! (Woman) - Is that Erik? - Yeah.
- How you doing? I miss you guys.
Every day has been hard.
We've been pushing hard every day.
My wife knows, you know, when I'm away, keep it happy.
If she gets really deep, I might fall apart.
- Okay, bye.
- Bye, ladies! (Erik) Bye, everybody.
(Merry Beth) - Bye! Bye, Jeff! (Jace) - Bye, dad! (Clears throat) I think we gotta hug it out with some boys right now.
(Man) - You got it, man.
- Of course, man.
(Erik) - That was nice.
(Jeff) - Thanks man.
- That made me cry.
(Ike) - Seriously.
Seriously.
(Man) Thanks, man.
(Jeff) Our boys The Gypsies (Sniffles) They know we miss our families a lot.
They got families, too, so, you know, it was a big move.
So hopefully we can get an opportunity to to give it back to 'em at some point.
You guys are amazing.
Thank you.
Really, it's it's hard to not root for you now.
(Laughter) Even beyond this competition, it shows your characters.
So (Ike) - Yeah.
(John) - No worries, man.
You got it.
California Girls, you're the ninth team to check in to the overnight camp.
Last place.
You have made it to the halfway point for this stage of the expedition.
If you're in last place tomorrow, your expedition will be over, you'll be going home.
(Natalie) Today is a bad day for the cali girls.
I think if we don't get that inner drive and that fight quickly, we could soon very well be out of the competition.
(Indistinct conversations) (Panting) I laid awake all night.
I was freezing, - shivering.
- It was almost as cold as the snow.
- Did you? - Not so good? - Something not right about that.
(A.
J.
) - Finally.
I feel like a human again.
We want to risk ourselves a little bit.
We're right through the expedition.
We wanna get back to the front of the pack.
We don't wanna take any chances with the middle anymore.
How you guys doing today? (Contestants) Good.
Today is an elimination day.
The last team to cross the finish will be going home and their expedition will be over.
Today you'll need a set of instructions to continue your expedition.
But I'm not gonna hand it to you.
It's locked in a box behind me.
The box is secured with a traditional Moroccan puzzle lock.
Figure out how to solve the puzzle to unlock the box and retrieve your instructions.
Gypsies, your expedition continues Now.
(John) Giving our reward to No Limits feels good, but, um, you know, we're not trying to make friends.
And we are still in this competition to win.
And to be honest, I think we want it the most of al the teams out here.
Hold on.
Let's just look at it for a second before we do anything.
Can you flip it upside down? I think that's the only move we can make.
(Eric) So we get to the challenge, and it looks very basic.
But in order to take the lock off, you really have to move these wooden parts and this rope.
We only had a 3-minute head start, so the pressure was definitely on, and that's a pressure we don't feel all the time.
Cops, Fab 3, Football Players, your expedition continues Now.
(A.
J.
) From the start line, we could see The Gypsies trying to figure out something that could take them m while, which meant this was our opportunity to catch up a little bit.
There's no way on earth we're gonna pass this up.
(Indistinct conversations) (Jim) If this was real police work, there'd be no finessing locks.
We'd kick the door in.
All right, this is an elimination day.
Last team goes home.
(Jeff) Well, after speaking to my wife and son, it just makes me happy, and this is fuel.
Today will be a whole new day, all new terrain.
And, uh, we're passing the teams that that passed us.
Fishermen, No Limits, Country Boys, California Girls, New York fire, your expedition continues Now.
(Kevin) The focus for the firemen today is to stay ahead of the pack.
But the challenges can either make you or break you.
The only good thing about this is we're sittin' down.
Somethin' so simple, you know? I wish we could use a knife.
If we can use a knife, we'll be on to something.
I don't wanna be the Asian who can't do the puzzle.
Yeah, hone in on your Asian ancestors because they're good at these.
(Locks rattling) (Men) That'll go through.
- Here we go.
- We got to.
- Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- Push that through.
Push that through.
Yeah.
We're consistently winning, which, you know, just makes it even more important that we continue to focus.
You know, we can't lose focus now.
"Head to your next checkpoint at the gorge.
" (Man speaks indistinctly) Standing between teams and the finish line is a single checkpoint located 5 grueling miles to the southeast.
Teams must make their own way over the menacing mountainous terrain to the top of Imilchil canyon, where they'll find their checkpoint.
Good job, boys.
I knew it.
Yes! (Whispers) Okay, good job.
Good job.
Hey! Yes! Oh! Yes! (Laughs) Bammer! We're stoked to be in third place.
We've never been in third place yet.
Before we left, we gave the firefighters the hint.
The firefighters basically took us under their wing.
I mean, they helped us through all the snow.
And, you know, they're not just competitors but they're our friends.
I don't think we've ever been in third ever.
So hopefully we don't go from third to ninth.
(Speaks indistinctly) Come on! Good job, Dani.
(Erik) You got the pole? Got my pole? (Man) Let's just go.
Let's just go.
(Man) Let's make up some time, boys.
Come on.
(Kevin) Everybody's got it except us.
(Speaks indistinctly) No other teams here.
We're last right now.
Cali girls' hint, unfortunately, didn't help at all.
Time wasn't on our side.
Oh, hey.
After getting stumped at yet another challenge, the New York Firemen fall 30 minutes behind the rest of the pack.
But it's a long day.
Anybody could slip up.
(John) This could be the pass here.
Yeah.
Cut left up here.
Here.
That's not a gorge.
I don't know why it's not here.
What if we're wrong? We knew we had a good lead.
We hadn't seen anyone behind us.
But we don't really see anything.
I'm like, oh, what are we doing wrong here? I have a bad feeling.
(Eric) We've gone the wrong way, further than half a mile away from our checkpoint.
So we decide to turn around, and we gotta, uh, you know, we're gonna have to make up for this.
(Sighs) That was a huge mistake.
Lesson learned.
We're gonna be burning some calories today.
The Gypsies' first navigational error of the expedition proves to be a costly mistake.
(Kari) Right here.
Right here.
Their blunder allows Fab 3 to jump into first place.
"You have come to a dead end.
The only way down is rappel, but your rappel rope is locked.
" In order to rappel, teams will need to unlock their rope.
Using their fingers, teams must work together to extract a key from a Moroccan Mountain register.
Once they have their key, they must unlock their rope bag and rappel to the bottom.
From there, the teams must follow the riverbed 2 miles as they sprint their way to the finish line.
Ryan, you go these two, and I'll go these two.
Okay? Two fingers at a time.
Two at a time.
Two at a time.
(A.
J.
) All three of us had to stick fingers into different holes and kinda shimmy the whole thing up there.
It's one of those things that if you try to rush through it, (Kari) There you go.
Nice.
Good job, guys.
Okay.
Gloves on.
(A.
J.
) Good teamwork, you guys.
There you go.
Okay.
(Sighs) There's The Gypsies back there, you guys.
We're in first place right now.
I saw The Gypsies in the distance.
Just that realization that we're in front of The Gypsies and actually in first place? That was just crazy.
All of a sudden, we got really psyched.
We just knew we just had to start kicking it into high gear.
Nice, Kari.
You're a baller.
I love you.
We're gonna keep the lead and show Gypsies that it's not, um, a 1-team show anymore.
So fingers crossed.
(Sniffles) (Kari) There you go.
Use your feet for the first part and then slide down.
He's just going down right now.
(Eric) We see some t tl-colored shirts.
That was the first time where we realized we weren't in first.
We were like, oh, okay.
There is a team ahead, you know, we were a little surprised.
There you go.
We're in first place.
It's exactly what we wanted.
I didn't expect it today, but I'll take it.
(Chuckles) (Speaks indistinctly) (Taylor) Okay, I got it.
Let go.
I got it.
Let go.
Can you get it up to the next one? (Bleep).
We gotta work together, dudes.
Yeah, sorry, man.
They're up there.
(Kari) - They are? - Yes.
- Taylor.
- Got it? Okay.
We can see first place, and, um, we're gonna try to get back up there.
Ooh! We're gonna try to take over the lead.
Okay.
Let's go.
(Man) Go.
Go.
Let's cruise.
Let's catch 'em.
It's that way.
As the Fab 3 and Gypsies Duke it out in a sprint to the finish the California Girls struggle with a stubborn teammate.
(Natalie) Let's go, Chin! We gotta stop.
She's too far behind.
Dang it.
My nose is killing me.
(Natalie) As a team, we realize Christina is the weakest link, physically.
Let's go, Chin! Big steps.
Can't stop.
You know, we need to run to keep up with everybody else.
We can't just run/walk anymore and still beat teams.
(Christina) Uh, the Football Players passed us.
We definitely want to, like, run, but I can't run 2 miles with a heavy backpack like this.
It's disheartening when you go from being in the front, being put to the back again.
We see Football Players, The Cops, and No Limits all pass us.
I still think if we run, we can get on their heels.
I just gotta get my team together.
(Chuckles) Let's go, chin! "The instructions to the finish are in the gorge below.
" "The only way down is to rappel, but your rappel rope is locked.
" "Use your fingers to get the key out of the top.
" (Man) We got teams trailing us.
(Jeff) Yeah, you push and I'll push.
Be patient.
Boom.
Gloves on.
We're good.
Hold on real tight.
Got it? (Robert and Dani) Yeah.
We nailed it, baby! (Man) Go.
Go.
Go.
(Man) Oh! (Akbar) As athletes, we're really fast learners.
Our team ability to rappel has been excellent, so for us, that was an accomplishment.
(Man speaks indistinctly) (Man) Ready to go? "The only way down is to rappel, but your rappel rope is locked.
" (Man) Come on.
(Man) All right.
You got it? No, I don't.
I don't have nothing here.
All right, come on, guys.
Bring it up to me.
I got it.
I got it.
I got it.
Come on.
(Man) Nice job, Joe.
(Man) Phew! (Speaks indistinctly) All of a sudden, the other teams are passing us on the Mountain.
It was ridiculously frustrating.
Over here, boys.
Giving up wasn't an option.
We caught up at the, uh, rappel.
It was unbelievable.
I don't know how we did it.
Let's get this.
Okay, firefighters are here.
Let's go! And we see the firemen right there.
I mean, right there.
And all of a sudden, we realized we messed up.
At this stage in the expedition, making a mistake could cost you going home.
Can you get it? No.
Push it up more.
Can you push it up? Don't touch it.
(Gasps) Crap.
(Man) Just keep passing it up, passing it up.
Dude, we were doing so good.
(Chuckles) We were.
The biggest thing we've had to learn, as friends, is just how to communicate with each other, but if we don't work together today, um, we're gonna come in last place and we're gonna be eliminated, and we're ready to go home and leave on this note.
Got it? Yes.
Yes.
Yes, yes, yes! Perfect.
(Woman) We're fighting to stay in.
(Woman) Yeah, I got that part.
Going into this rappel, I was completely freak out, but we turn around to see the firemen behind us, so we know we just need to dig our heels in and try our hardest.
There you go.
(Rob) We breezed through this challenge.
We're feeling great, 'cause we started to realize we can do this.
All three of us got down, and then it was, uh, time to go.
(Mike) This way.
(Grunting) we can catch 'em.
Give it everything we got.
(A.
J.
) Try run down this little hill.
(Kari) Yeah.
While the Fab 3 look to hold on to first place Come on, A.
J.
The resilient Gypsies continue to make up ground Let's go.
Go.
Let's cruise.
Let's catch 'em.
In hopes of winning their fifth stage in a row.
(Eric) That's them.
They're walking.
(Groans) - Let's go, you guys.
(Kari) - Come on.
When we see the Fab 3 in front of us, we're really excited 'cause we know we can catch up to 'em, uh, 'cause we know Ryan has a bum leg.
(Kari) Keep moving quick.
They weren't far behind us.
There they are.
(Man exhales deeply) (Kari) Ryan's knee's killing him, and when I see The Gypsies behind us, I was just thinking there's no way that we'll outrun them right now.
(Kari) Let's go.
Watch your ankles! (Panting) (Eric) Ankles.
Ankles.
Ankles.
(Eric) Fab 3 are probably about a couple hundred yards from us, so I knew we could catch up with them.
Let's go.
(A.
J.
) We were trying to hold on to first place.
It's just adrenaline.
It just takes over, and we just We did everything we could just to not let anybody come near us.
(Man panting) (John) Let's go, guys.
There they are.
Let's go.
(Eric) Watch your ankles.
(Bleep)! (Bleep)! Hold on.
Hold on.
Hold on.
(Panting) (Eric) You all right? No.
What happened? I hit my ankle.
I heard it pop.
(Taylor) All of a sudden, I hear John say, "stop, guys," and I look over, and he's, uh, grabbing his ankle.
I think it's pretty serious because we're so close to the Fab 3 that we can just pass 'em, and for him to stop like that I'm actually really worried that our whole race is over.
(John) Doesn't feel right.
That's for sure.
Damn, man.
This could be a game-changer.
(Birds chirping) All right! Let's go! Nice job! (Panting) (Grunts) Come on, Fab 3! Nice work! (Panting) Okay, you guys.
Fab 3! Congratulations.
You're the winners of stage five of the expedition.
Uhh! - Hallelujah.
- Congratulations, guys.
Oh, my God.
Kari, how did you do it? We were able to run today.
We haven't been able to run 'cause he's been sick, and that makes a huge difference.
It's been so frustrating.
The last couple stages I've been so sick, and, like, I have me back.
A.
J.
's back, and I love that.
(Kari) It felt amazing to be the only team to beat The Gypsies so far.
I definitely think me pushing them and not letting us give up has definitely helped us get where we're at right now.
Fab 3 is definitely back.
Well, congratulations, guys.
Nice job.
Congratulations.
Nice work.
Nice job, guys.
Finish strong.
Gypsies Whoo! You're in second place.
Although second place is fantastic Yeah.
For you guys, it's a little different.
Does it bother you, not being in first? We just pushed a little bit too hard at the end, and I just stepped on a little rock, and my ankle went real far to the left, and I heard a pop.
It just went (Pops lips) (Eric) We've been in the lead most of the competition, but, you know, it's anyone's game.
One trip up, and you're being sent home.
All right, guys, head on in to camp.
Thanks.
Get some rest.
Nice work.
Take care of the ankle.
Thank you.
All right, let's ice that baby down.
(Man) Ah, we're getting passed.
Still on the course, middle teams give it all they've got (Man) Come on, man! We've never beaten football.
They're right there, and I say we can beat 'em.
Big steps.
Big steps.
Let's go! Come on! (Jason) Come on, guys.
As they race to the finish line.
Let's go, Football Players! You're in third place.
Who came in first? Fab 3's first.
Yeah! Yeah.
Finally someone Fab 3 has sent a strong message throughout the entire expedition that there can be another number one, and heck, it motivates me, because I know we're better than Fab 3.
You're fourth.
Fourth.
Football Players are followed closely by The Cops, No Limits, the Fishermen, and the Country Boys.
Now We gotta go down! Only two teams remain in a race to the finish.
(Natalie) Come on.
You know those firefighters are gonna be booking it.
The California Girls Watch out! Hold a slight lead over their allies, the New York Firemen.
This way.
(Rob) All of a sudden, it's just us and the cali girls that are left (Natalie) Let's go Chin! Which is tough because we became close with them, but now we realize one of us is definitely gonna be going home.
To the left.
(Woman) The firemen are right there.
Oh, yeah.
Come on! Stage five of the expedition has come down to two teams left on the course (Natalie) Let's go, Chin! Give it everything we've got.
And one team is going home.
(Natalie) Come on.
You know those firefighters are gonna be booking it.
Running towards the finish line, we don't know where the firemen are.
They could be ahead of us.
They could be behind us.
We have no idea, so all we're thinking about is, let's just get through that finish line.
(Man) Guys, this way.
As we're running down the riverbed, all's we're thinking is, you know, let's let's go after it.
So we gave it 110%.
(Brittany) The firemen are right there.
(Natalie) Let's go, chin.
You gotta push it.
We're racing, uh, to the finish, I looked over and I saw the cali girls right in front of us.
(Woman) You guys, they're right there.
To the left.
Come on, chin! We're almost there! Can we please have a footrace? Please! Come on, Chin! They're too close.
Come on! Oh, yeah.
(Christina) Firemen are right there! Let's go! We don't want to go home, and that's why we started sprinting our butts off towards that finish line.
(Man) Let's go! Let's go! (Speaks indistinctly) All right! Let's go! Nice job! Oh! We got cali girls! (Claps hands) Cali girls, that makes you eighth.
Whoo! Yep.
Still in it.
Cali girls, I asked you to beat a boys' team today.
We did it for you.
Yeah.
We do love the firemen.
They were great competition for us.
So it's gonna be sad to say good-bye, but it feels good to beat a boys' team.
All right.
Camp's that way.
All right.
Thanks.
(Panting) Nice job, guys! Nice job, New York fire.
Finish strong.
New York fire, you're the ninth team, the last place team.
Your expedition's over.
You're going home.
Oof! That's not gonna be good.
It wasn't that long ago you guys waited up a mountain for cali girls, and they were the team that eventually beat you by one spot.
How's that make you feel as far as the competition of it goes? I think it's probably the kind of people we are, the people we were raised by.
Yeah, the fire department, too.
Fire department's the same way.
You know, we're always helping people out.
When Dave told us we were the last team, I I felt like we did our best today, I guess.
You know, we hustled.
We hustled the the whole way today.
Wherever we could run, we were running, and we weren't looking back, and we're trying our hardest to catch up, and, uh, we couldn't do it.
Head on into camp.
Get some rest.
(Mike speaks indistinctly) - See ya Dave, take care.
- See you later.
All right.
(Robert) - Bye, guys.
(Man) - All right, boys.
(Jim) See you, New York.
(Rob) I'm disappointed because I feel that we were good enough to make it to the end.
But in the same point, I'm happy the way we represented ourselves, which was helping other people.
So it wasn't always about this competition.
It was about the experience, the journey, and, uh, to do all these amazing things that we were able to do with these two good friends of mine was an experience of a lifetime.
(Natalie) Seeing the firefighters evacuated out was bittersweet.
We had a special bond, and now that they're gone, it's, like it's We're out here on our own now.
(Erik) I think all the teams at this point are pretty smart and pretty physical, so I really think it comes down to some teams getting lucky breaks and other teams having some mistakes, and that really is what determines who's gonna win and who's gonna lose.
All right, guys, back to camp.
