Indian Matchmaking (2020) s01e05 Episode Script

Take the Elephant out of the Room

1
I'm Suresh Kabra. She is Sunita.
[in Hindi]
I will tell my name. You say yours.
My name is Sunita Kabra.
[in Hindi] She fights with me a lot.
[playful music plays]
My parents told me I must get married.
They brought me to Bombay.
They arranged my meeting with him,
but I didn't look at him.
Otherwise I would have rejected him
right away.
[laughs]
We also had to satisfy our parents,
so the marriage took place.
I wish your grandmother had not forced you
to marry me.
I could have avoided
marrying this man with a paunch.
[laughs]
It was blackmail.
I don't know if it was blackmail or not,
but that was our destiny for sure.
She takes good care of me,
even to this day.
He takes very good care of me, too.
He takes such good care of me
that I get irritated at times.
[both laugh]
[bhangra song playing]
[Sima]
I've been frustrated with Pradhyuman,
because I've shown him many girls,
but every girl he's rejecting.
I was so happy
when he agreed to meet Rushali.
She's fair and good looking,
but also she's smart.
She's educated. She carries well,
and I thought
this will be a very good match.
[Pradhyuman]
I don't meet people very easily.
I've had a difficult time.
I've had quite a few rejections as well.
I'm not just the rich pretty boy. [laughs]
It would be nice to have a partner
to share the next leg of the life,
but it's difficult, I would say.
It's not that easy.
-Hi.
-[Pradhyuman] Hi.
-Pradhyuman. Please.
-Rushali. Lovely meeting you.
-Thank you.
-Looking nice.
Thanks, so do you.
-How was your flight?
-Good. Tiring.
-Hectic?
-Yeah.
You're lucky you're in one
of the best places in Bombay.
-Yeah?
-This is very pretty.
It looks like it, and I love horses.
They're so beautiful.
-You love animals?
-I do.
Mammals or, like, more like sea life?
-Uh, animals.
-Animals.
[laughs] Animals.
[Pradhyuman] She looks beautiful.
But you're anxious and nervous always
first time you're meeting a person.
First, you need to calm down, relax.
It's just a meeting.
I'm not gonna eat you up.
And then you build that trust
where both the people can open up
about things that they want to say.
So, what's happening?
You tell me. What do you do?
So I'm into acting and modeling.
It's been, uh, nine years now.
-Wow.
-Yeah.
Well, I have modeled once,
and I think it's difficult.
It is. People think it's pretty easy.
Yeah, I was like,
you can't be in that zone, you know?
There's a zone. They keep telling you,
"Be in that zone."
I know.
-I'm like, "Hmm."
-It has to come natural, right?
Yeah.
Have you ever done this?
[in Hindi] I've never done this.
-Uh I have done this.
-Yeah?
Is this your first time meeting someone?
-Yeah.
-Really?
-Yeah.
-Wow. Are you nervous?
-I am. I was like [exclaims]
-You are?
What am I supposed to talk?
-Just be normal. Be casual. Be you.
-Yeah.
-That is all.
-You like cats?
[Pradhyuman]
So I like, basically, horses a lot. Like
Yeah? You know how to ride one?
-I know.
-Yeah?
Okay, what do you enjoy?
Like, apart from being glamorous?
Yeah? Oh, please.
I love reading. I read a lot.
So whenever I'm free,
instead of being on phone,
I would prefer a book.
-Wow! That's crazy.
-That's how
-That's a good habit.
-Yeah.
And I'm not a selfie or a picture
And my friends are like,
"You're in this industry,
and you don't take pictures."
And I don't like taking pictures.
Can you imagine? It's [laughs]
Yeah, I think it's a good thing.
[Pradhyuman] We had some really good,
interesting conversation,
and she has a lot more to offer.
Well, conversations were nice,
definitely, and it got us going.
There is definitely a likability
which is there.
[goat bleating]
My brother hired a petting zoo
for one of his birthdays.
-It worked out. Yeah.
-Really? Hired one?
It was kind of similar to this,
except there was no yoga involved.
Yeah, how cool, though.
Do you do yoga often, or no?
-Um, I used to.
-Okay.
Jay's really easy to talk to.
We got to meet on Skype before this.
-I'm also doing, like, some side hustles.
-Yeah, me too.
Okay, cool. Yeah, that's
I've been a lawyer for ten years,
and I've been figuring out
how to not be a lawyer
for ten years. So
-[laughs]
-I don't really know.
Hi.
Check in with yourself here.
Drop the fingertips down to the mat.
Start to walk yourself forward
and bow over your ankles.
It was such a great way to meet someone,
because it's so relaxed
and has so many moments of humor.
[instructor] Walk your fingertips out
just another quarter of an inch.
Breathe here.
I think it really helps break the ice.
[all laughing]
[instructor]
They say the goat chooses you.
[Aparna] Oh, well.
-You got two. I got zero.
-[all laugh]
It's not looking good for me.
[whispering] Man, my balance sucks.
[instructor]
Reach out, hold hands, and share the love.
Maybe share the balance.
I need your balance. [laughs]
[instructor] Breathe here.
Yet at the very bottom
of your next exhale,
release as you inhale.
[Aparna] It's just a first date.
We've all been on a million first dates.
I don't think
it gives you the full picture
of who the person is
and how you guys get along,
but I'm interested to know more about him
and to learn a little bit
about his personal life
and how he got to where he was today.
I would love to see him again.
-[Aparna chuckles] Hey.
-[Jay] One's going under.
[Rushali] So you come here quite often?
[Pradhyuman] I like this place.
I don't come over here quite often,
but I like this place.
There are very few places in Mumbai
where it's this peaceful
-and close to nature.
-Yeah. Limited people.
-You can hear the birds.
-Yeah.
You can see horses. I was like
[Rushali]Oy, Bhagavan!Look at him.
Well, let's go ride a horse.
It's gonna be amazing.
[Rushali] I was pretty nervous.
What is it going to be like?
He come across to be a very good person.
He's a sweetheart. He's a sweet guy.
Sweet, humble guy.
[indie song playing]
Just burn, don't crash ♪
The answers will come ♪
If we don't push ♪
[Rushali] Okay.
This is pretty. I like it.
And it's very unusual
I never thought of it,
I mean, to meet somebody
-[chuckles] Like this, on the horse?
-Yeah.
The last thing
[music swells]
[Pradhyuman] We are definitely being happy
in each other's company.
I think that's a pretty cool thing.
I thought that we were in a movie itself.
Sima Auntie has taught me
you can definitely meet
some interesting people if you are open.
Initially, I had a very big apprehension
towards arranged marriage,
but I think it would be pretty cool
to get married,
which is a big, uh, difference,
I would say.
[Rushali] So whenever you're there next,
you can buzz me
if you want to.
[Pradhyuman]
I don't know where it'll lead to.
That's the nature
of matchmaking after all.
But definitely, something more,
I think so, is in store.
After passing so many hurdles, like,
then finally, I'm glad Pradhyuman had
such a good first meeting.
If they are willing to be flexible
and compromise,
I predict that things will move fast
and smoothly.
The rest is up to destiny.
[upbeat music playing]
[paper rustling]
-[in Hindi] What are you up to, Akshay?
-Nothing much. Just packing for the trip.
I did some shopping, too.
You went to Armani sale or what?
T-shirt and this shirt and jeans.
[in English]
I want to talk to you about something.
Is this okay?
That's okay. Will you come here?
Will this look good on the trip?
Yes. Let's take the elephant
out of the room.
Tell me. I am listening.
-What everyone is talking about.
-Okay.
About the proposals.
Will a black hoodie look good on this?
This is blue.
[upbeat music playing]
[in English]
In school, life is kind of easy.
When I was in Boston for my undergrad,
I had to do all kinds of things
that I would never do over here.
Like at home,
I was not used to even making my bed.
And then laundry, and then ironing,
and eat food on time.
I had to take care of myself all alone.
No one else.
After school, you're like, "Oh, my God.
What is the next for my life?"
When I came back, even parents are like,
"Now you're back,
and everything is good,
so now you can get married."
But, I mean, it all depends
when I meet the right person.
I was 23 when I got married.
And now you're 25.
Clock is ticking.
[laughing] But why should you say?
I'll be stuck for life
with the wrong decision.
It's high time now. I think in six months,
we need to finalize now.
[in Hindi] Six months?
But Mom was saying three months.
[in English] You know how Mom is.
[Hindi pop song playing]
[in Hindi] Move.
[Preeti in English] These are
very exquisitely-crafted hand pieces.
This is all real silver.
Real emeralds and pearls.
[in Hindi]
I made this for Akshay's future wife.
[in English] Along with this,
we give some heritage jewelry
for the daughter-in-law.
I see to it that she has, you know,
everything in her wardrobe,
from pearls to Jadau to diamonds.
This is just 20% of what Akshay's
wedding jewelry is to be honest.
I know she's going to love
all those things, all my gifts.
Now, we just need to find a girl
uh
because that is very, very important.
And you know how boys are.
[in Hindi] I was waiting to meet you.
[in Hindi] Yes, we never met.
[Sima] Today is the auspicious day.
[in English] I have been working very hard
to find a suitable girl for Akshay.
I have spoken to his mother many times
about what she's looking for Akshay,
but he hasn't told me what he wants.
[in Hindi] What kind of a person
are you looking for?
[in English] What are your preferences?
[in Hindi] No, you tell me.
That will be decided by Mom and Dad.
[Sima] You have to make
some decisions for yourself.
Will you leave everything on Mom?
I'll make decisions
once I've met the girl. [chuckles]
[in English] Well,
I'm kind of a shy person, an introvert.
I'm really close to my mom.
Uh, I can say extremely close.
My mom is very particular
about some things.
I would want my life partner
to have the same qualities.
She should be flexible.
[Preeti] Yeah, we going for girls
above 5'3".
[in Hindi] They will match his height.
Akshay is a family-oriented person.
I would like someone like
And the girl must be cultured.
I'm not looking
for just a beautiful girl, eye candy.
Those are the major criteria.
[Akshay] My mom has good taste,
and I will heartily trust her judgment.
Nobody gets a perfect dream life partner.
My mom is literally what I want
to be looking at in a wife.
[laughs] Yeah.
All that high tempo is going on.
[in Hindi] I keep telling Mummy
to hurry up the wedding.
No matter how much I try,
I can't avoid getting stressed.
It happens.
My blood pressure rises
thinking about the marriage.
[Sima]
What's there to worry about? Tell me.
My elder son got married
at the right time.
The elder son married early.
This will get a bit delayed, so what?
This will make me stress-free.
Just stay positive. It will happen.
[Sima in English] I don't know
why Akshay's mother is so eager
to have another daughter-in-law.
"Arrey, we want to get married
in two months.
We want to get engaged
in this few months,"
but nothing will happen
unless Akshay is ready for that.
[Sima] It's a famous saying
[in Hindi]
"The wedding night cannot be delayed."
It will happen for us as per destiny.
I am planning to hold the marriage
this year, say, December, November.
I think now you, too,
should increase your speed.
[Sima in English]
It's okay. I'll go on working hard.
Everything we have to agree,
whatever the client says.
[upbeat pop music playing]
[Vyasar] Manisha is around 5'2"
with black hair and hazel eyes.
I think they were hazel.
Are they brown or hazel?
I felt like, looking at her,
it was really like
I felt like
I was looking at the sun sometimes.
Not in the sense that the sun is hard
to look at, but she's radiant.
She really is radiant.
But
I don't know how to create romance.
And I have to remind myself,
look, that's okay, too.
At the end of the day, you fall in love,
you fall in love.
-Okay.
-All right.
-We're rolling.
[laughs]
I can't believe how hard
this was to get together too.
-Thank you for your patience.
-It was so challenging for both of us.
The first meeting which I set up
with Vyasar and Manisha went very well.
He lives in Texas,
and she lives in North Carolina,
but it's not a problem.
A lot of Indian marriages happen
where couple lives far away.
The communication is very important.
-So what did you do today?
-Oh, I cleaned my bathroom.
I realized I hadn't cleaned my bathroom
in a while, and there was a lot of hair.
I always forget
It's not that I forget how hairy I am,
but I forget what it looks like
when it accumulates.
[laughs]
"Cleaning!"
For both of us, this is our first time
working with a matchmaker.
We wanted there to be next steps.
We didn't know what next steps meant.
All we had to do was just keep talking.
I'm, like, a big cleaner. I love to clean.
I love to
Vacuuming is actually, like, my
If I'm in a crappy mood,
or even in a good mood,
or just stressed out,
if I vacuum,
I suddenly feel like I'm She-Ra,
like, I can do anything.
It feels good, right?
My vacuum cleaner is like
this ancient thing from the '80s
called the "Rainbow."
It, like, has a tank of water.
I've heard of that!
-Yeah!
-Yeah! That's so awesome.
I love it. It still works great.
Part of it is really scary
when you start seeing yourself
in this other person.
Part of it is also really rewarding.
We're both
I don't know if this is us showing our age
or just showing how lame we are
-that we're getting excited about
-Hey, I'm not lame. Speak for yourself.
I'm really excited
about my vacuum cleaner.
-I kinda want to vacuum now.
[both laugh]
I might vacuum, too, as well.
There's this superstition though,
this Indian superstition
that you're not supposed to do it
after sunset,
-so I'll have to wait till the morning.
-Oh, that's true! That's so true!
My mom would never let me vacuum the house
after dark.
I wanna keep talking.
I wanna have the conversation continue.
-Do you need a moment?
-I just had a moment. It's fine.
[laughs]
[upbeat music playing]
[in Hindi]
Sushilji, I sent you one name: Vyasar.
[Sushilji in Hindi]
After marriage, luck will bloom.
So it's better for him that
he gets married as soon as possible.
He has a chance to favor his luck
and start a family.
So, as per numerology,
17 means one plus seven equals eight.
Eight is a primary number
for this individual.
[Sima in English] Matching horoscopes is
like insurance for a successful marriage.
Because I've seen that the two stars,
if they are friendly in the horoscope,
that means they are compatible,
and they will stay happy for their life.
[in Hindi] So can you check if his chart
matches with Manisha Dass?
With Manisha Dass,
if we are matching charts with her,
they aren't a match.
They have too low of points, about 11,
and I would have to reject the match
at that point.
There isn't just one issue
with their match.
There's a bunch of issues.
The mentality is such that if one speaks,
the other won't keep calm.
Secondly, love is missing.
[both]
Not a good match.
[Sima in English] I don't know
if Vyasar cares about the horoscopes.
Hopefully, it won't change his mind
about Manisha.
Even if the horoscopes don't match,
many people proceed, especially in the US.
[in Hindi] Sushilji, next I had given you
the name of Aparna Shewakramani.
Reading her chart,
we find out what Aparna's personality is.
She is fickle-minded.
She changes her decisions immediately.
-Fickle-minded.
-Fickle-minded.
Immediately, she just made a decision
let's say she went downstairs,
she'll change her decision.
Why?
[in English] She's very rude in speech
[in Hindi] and will never be scared
to speak her mind.
Okay.
But the idea to understand Aparna
is not something
everyone will be capable of.
To understand her, to fully grasp her,
you have to go deep.
You have to get to her root personality.
When is Aparna's date for her wedding?
If we are trying to look
for an auspicious day for her wedding,
that season and time
is currently happening.
[Sima in English] This is
the second pundit who has predicted
that Aparna's time has come soon
for the marriage.
So I'm very excited.
[phone ringing]
-Hi.
-Hi, Aparna. How are you?
I'm doing well. It's very busy over here.
How's it going in Bombay?
Bas. We are busy
now that the marriage season has started.
-So tell me now, you spoke to Jay?
-Yes!
And I really enjoyed our conversation.
Um, I thought
that we just got along really well.
It was really nice. It was a nice change.
I'm finding a lot of change
in you, Aparna.
-Really?
-Yeah. You seem very positive.
[laughs]Yeah, I'm definitely hopeful.
I think
this has been a really good process
and a big change in me,
and I'm really liking it.
Even I'm finding, the first time I met you
and now, I'm finding a lot of difference.
Oh. Wonderful.
-Yeah.
-Well, it's with all your help.
Yeah, no. It's all destiny and God's help.
Just I am the mediator. That's all.
Definitely. Definitely.
I I totally agree.
Um, for me, I needed the time
to, you know, really focus on myself,
but that now is the right time
to actually find someone to marry.
This is the right time for it.
[Aparna] I don't know if I've made
all the right decisions in the past,
but what if this is
just a 17-year streak of bad luck?
What if things are about to turn around?
I think soon, I'll find the result.
Good luck, Aparna. All the best,
-and I'm waiting to hear the good news.
-Thank you.
[Jay] That looks amazing.
-Cheers.
-That's beautiful. Thank you. I'm glad.
This is really good.
-Incredible.
-Yes.
-Is it what you dreamed of and more?
-Everything I ever dreamed of.
[laughs]
What kind of wedding do you want?
Um, a vineyard, probably. Yeah.
Just to have people have fun.
I don't
There's no cake needed.
I don't need flowers.
I prefer not to see a first dance.
I don't need any of that stuff.
-You say that now. [laughs]
-No, I mean it.
[Jay] My first impressions of Aparna,
I think she's really smart.
She knows exactly what she wants,
and I think she's intriguing.
Definitely somebody
I wanna learn a lot more about.
[Aparna] Look at that!
-[Jay] This looks good. It looks amazing.
-[Aparna] That's beautiful.
-[Jay] Thank you.
-[Aparna] Thank you.
put some of this stuff
on your plate here.
Thank you.
[Jay] I agree with the simplicity, though.
I think a lot of people spend too much
on a wedding.
But there's also I
One thing that I would like
is just to have the people that,
you know, I care about,
which is a lot of people.
Here's a little bit
more controversial thing.
What if you had no kids at the wedding?
Oh, 100%. There's never gonna be a child
at my wedding.
-Really?
-I don't wanna see a child at my wedding.
Is that controversial?
-Yes, for sure. [laughs]
-Oh.
I mean, although,
kids don't cost anything.
I just don't want them there
because they're noisy and loud.
I like Jay. I've been on a lot
of first dates this year,
and Jay definitely was one
of the easiest people to get along with
and learn about.
I think that we had a lot to talk about.
He was very present with me,
which I really appreciated.
I think that says a lot
about who he is.
-That's beautiful.
-That looks so good.
Well, we should do this.
Let's do it at the same time.
Oh, you already ate it. What do you think?
Did you say at the same time?
-Sorry.
-It's all good.
[Aparna] He was very charming,
and he's got a lot to offer,
and I wanted my friends to meet him.
-Hello.
-Hey, how are you?
Hello! Good!
They've both been married happily
for many years.
I'm excited to see if they can maybe
tell me a little more about Jay
that maybe I'm not seeing myself.
Yeah. Are you pretty tied
to staying in Atlanta now?
I naturally just jump around a lot.
I always have an itch.
I'm, like, I always wanna
Where's your next itch?
New York or LA.
I feel like you like New York
more than LA.
Oh, yeah, I'm not an LA person. [laughs]
You've only been once for one weekend.
-That does not count.
-And I left early.
-Okay But I'm telling you
-Just saying.
I feel like he could convince you.
I'm gonna jump to the bathroom real fast,
but convince her to do LA with me.
-[Smita] Yeah, I'm going to.
-[Divya] Okay!
I think she's the type of person
that is caring, that's compassionate,
that is like a ride-or-die
with the people who she cares about,
and that's something
that's very important to me.
Somebody who's very close and has
a strong camaraderie with her friends.
-Do you like him?
-Yeah, let's pull back. What do you think?
How's the conversation?
How's the Like, do you click?
-You don't hate him?
-No. [laughs]
And you might be cautiously optimistic?
-Sure, yeah.
-[Divya] Okay.
Like, would you venture out to see him
or have him come again?
I'd be open to it. I'd be open to it.
-[Smita] There we go.
-[Divya] Okay.
That's enough. [laughs]
-I loved his energy.
-Yeah.
Like, he Great guy,
and I liked the way he talked to you
and respected you and your ideas.
[Aparna] Yeah, for sure.
-Sorry, we're side-barring.
-No, continue. I completely agree.
[Aparna] I'm into LA. They convinced me.
I'm moving to LA tomorrow.
[Jay] I think there's a possibility
of a future with her.
I'd love to see her in Atlanta
and to actually see
if that's something that she would enjoy,
meeting my family, and things like that,
so that would be a really cool next step.
We're compatible. We both don't want kids
at our wedding.
I don't wanna see a child at my wedding.
I don't hate him. [laughs]
So go, Jay!
You won the first hurdle.
Or passed the first hurdle?
Jumped the first hurdle?
I don't know. There was a hurdle.
He passed it. [laughs]
From the first meeting,
Aparna has changed a lot.
She's still picky,
and she is still stubborn,
but she's open to her destiny,
and I'm proud of her.
Next time you guys meet,
LA, New York, Mississippi
Mississippi might be a contender.
Well, we can discuss.
[pop music playing]
[Vyasar] Manisha and I chatted
on the phone a few times.
Our conversations,
they kept getting longer and longer.
We definitely, uh, don't agree
on a lot of things.
Things have been
kind of confusing recently. Um
[Vyasar] But not every
three-hour conversation happens
for the same reason.
You have a normal agreeable conversation
until you find something you disagree on.
Then it spirals out of control
as the argument takes the bulk
of those three hours.
I don't see myself, um, being okay
with homeschooling my kids, for example.
Of course I'm gonna talk about education
in relation to my own children.
Um, I don't know that this is going
to be something that we could, um,
you know, that we could overcome together.
Look, if you're not gonna talk to me,
I don't know what to do.
This is something
I don't really like about you,
and I don't think
that I should have to like about you.
[sighs heavily]
If this was a normal dating circumstance,
and these are the conversations we had,
like, there wouldn't be a second date.
Okay, well
I have a lot of work to do, so
Yeah, this is not like
By the fourth or fifth phone call,
the doubts were rock-solid.
There came a point where
she didn't wanna talk anymore.
[phone ringing]
Hey!
-Hey!
-You got a haircut!
-I did.
-It looks so good.
Thank you.
Um, I I don't know how you feel,
but I wanted to have a conversation
with you in terms of a future.
Yeah.
[sighs]
It's hard because somebody who has, um,
really high ambitions for their career,
like, that's really important to me,
and I guess because that's how I am,
-and so
-Right.
I think we come from two different places.
No, that makes sense.
You may be a nice person,
but like, is that gonna, you know,
pay the bills five years from now?
[Vyasar] This is matchmaking.
You're not meeting people the regular way.
The conversations
me and Manisha were having
about money, kids,
and everything like that,
that's stuff that happens
much further down the line
in an actual relationship.
Whereas opposed to this
where it's like, "No, this is the reason
that we're meeting
is to talk about these things." Right?
It's a lot to learn
in a very short amount of time.
We are very different.
I don't have a five-year plan.
I don't have a long-term vision
of where I'm gonna be in a role
or in a job.
There are some things I can definitely say
that we have in common,
but as of right now, Vyasar,
I don't see where our paths, uh, cross.
You want it to work so badly,
and it's not like a car, you know?
You don't just get to press the gas,
and it goes.
Sometimes, when it reaches
the natural stopping point,
it's the natural stopping point.
That's it.
-Well, good luck in everything.
-Thank you. Yeah.
-I hope you find a great life partner.
-Thanks, bud. You too.
[laughs]
[Sima]
I thought that everything will go fine,
but it couldn't work,
because I think Manisha found his earnings
and all were not okay for her.
But you have to see his heart also.
He's such a nice person.
He'll keep you happy.
And I feel very strongly
the girl should be open-minded
and love him for who he is.
[traditional music playing]
[in Hindi] Lal Singh, get the fruits.
We'll serve cut mangoes.
Just two minutes. I'll serve this.
Then I'll sit down.
[in English] In our society,
we usually have joint families.
I have my joint family
with both my boys living together.
Now the member
who's going to come as Akshay's wife
The girl has to adjust many things
rather than the boy.
That is what the values
we've been brought up with.
It's my house.
It means these are the rules of my family
we have followed, you have to follow.
Simaji, she's getting some proposals
for Akshay.
Matchmaker?
[Preeti]
Yes, and she's already sent me some.
[in Hindi] But you need to specify.
What are your, uh, choices and criterias?
You can't keep saying no
over and over again.
[laughs]
[in English]
Seriously, Akshay. Now I'm pissed off.
Nearly 18 to 20 proposals I got.
[in Hindi] Ten to 12
he just rejected right away.
[in English] It's not good.
[in Hindi]
It's not like that. I looked at them.
[Preeti] You have your own reasons.
[Akshay in English]
A lot of proposals have been coming in,
and out of those people who I met,
there was zero compatibility.
Zero, like, attraction or talking.
There was nothing.
The whole process has been very confusing.
[in Hindi] You need to focus.
-Okay.
-And you'll cooperate?
-[in English] We'll meet. We'll see.
-No, no, no, no, no, no.
See, you get married this year,
and they have a baby next year.
They are getting late because of you.
[in Hindi] What did I do?
[Preeti in Hindi]
You haven't finalized your marriage!
I'm not stopping anyone!
What do you mean,
"I'm not stopping anyone"?
You're holding us up
because you don't like any girl.
They want to enjoy your wedding first.
And then they can move forward
with their plans.
-Those are two separate things.
-They aren't separate. It is inter-linked.
Papa.
[Prakash in English] Now it's high time.
You and Papa decide.
Then me and Papa will finalize.
-Final decision is mine, no?
-All right.
Good. Thank you.
[Prakash] Akshay has no say.
[all laugh]
[soft rock music playing]
Did you hear any shit talking
from the rest of the family?
Yeah, I did. I tooknanaji
to go get a haircut today.
-Oh, yeah?
-And, yeah, he was talking about
You don't even know what
these people sound like. Think about it.
-Oh, my God.
-If they sound like Porky Pig,
that might not be for you.
What if they sound like
[in deep voice] "Hey, Vyasar"?
[laughs]
[Vyasar]
Now, after everything with Manisha,
I feel like I'm back to square one.
I feel like
I feel very lost.
I just need to get back out on that horse.
And fortunately,
Sima has set me up with another match.
Her name is Rashi.
Sima did a good job of talking her up.
She's got good vibes, good energy,
and all of those things.
That's something my family cares about.
We're a bunch
of hippie-crunchy-granola people anyway.
"Yeah, good vibes. Oh, yeah."
I didn't have the time
to do any Facebook stalking last night.
[laughs] It's just a lot of words.
You just Until you meet, you won't know.
Yeah, you're right.
I'm not even concerned
about them having annoying laugh.
What if they think my laugh is annoying?
You think my laugh is annoying.
It resonates throughout the entire house.
So, yeah.
[Vyasar laughs]
[Sima]
The heart of Vyasar is such a nice person,
such a loving, such a caring
I think he'll care more for Rashi.
I presented Rashi
because the girl is so nice.
Like, when we meet her, we feel
a very nice positive vibes with her.
So I think this meeting might click.
[pop music playing]
You have to get all dolled up.
It takes a lot to make this look good,
am I right?
I think most girls tend to take
a little bit of time to get ready.
[Rashi] Beauty is pain.
[Raj] Hey, I had a little bit of pain,
too, this morning.
Someone told me
to do a little bit of plucking.
You got a lot of nose hairs, man.
You gotta pluck those.
Ugh! Sure. [chuckles]
What are you thinking
of this particular guy?
The biodata seemed pretty interesting.
Yeah, if he can keep up with the fact
that I don't know how to put on makeup,
maybe that'll be something.
Well, he looks like
he's more down to earth.
-Yeah.
-Which is nice,
because I know you do not want someone
who wants a high-maintenance girl.
Oh, yeah, that's not gonna happen.
I work with animals.
I come home with animal poop in my scrubs.
-[Raj] Covered in various animal fluids.
-Yeah. That's not gonna happen.
You can play "Guess what animal fluid
this is" with him.
That's disgusting.
Well, he said he enjoys
a nice sense of humor, you know?
I'm expecting a second date.
Yeah, well, we'll see, I guess. I mean,
I'm obviously nervous.
It's something that
Twenty-seven years old, and I haven't
had a serious relationship.
I've dated, but I haven't had
a serious relationship. Um
-[laughs]
-Why are you laughing at me? I'm nervous!
[sarcastically] Aw! Poor baby!
-[Vyasar] Ma, how are we feeling today?
-It'll be fun.
-I'm looking forward to meet Rashi.
-I'm looking forward to meeting her, too.
I'm having a good feeling
about this meeting.
The universe is working in your favor.
-That's the hope.
-[all laugh]
I'm definitely hopeful that I find
the right person in this process,
that Sima is going to eventually pull out
the ace in the hole,
and it'll be the right person.
-[doorbell rings]
-Oh! I think that's them.
[Mamta] Hello.Namaste.
[Rashi] Hello.Namaste.
[pop music playing]
