Informer (2018) s01e05 Episode Script
November Has Come
The firearm used in the November 29th incident at Cafe 66 was a Zastava M57 pistol.
It was manufactured in 1991 at the Zastava Arms facility in the former Republic of Yugoslavia.
Its path into the shooter's hands remains unknown.
The gun was recovered by police at the scene.
Between 9:21 and 10:33am on the morning of November the 29th, the M57 was fired nine times, ending the lives of four civilians and one police officer.
Thanks, folks, thanks very much.
Right, up next, our Jim, our Jim is going to serenade us.
Come on, Jim.
Lovely Jim! Stop it, you! I'm going to sing End Of The World.
Cue the music, please.
- Yes, love? - Can I order a gin and tonic, please? GPS broke? Don't get many southerners up here.
Oh, no, I was just passing through.
- A friend suggested I stop in.
- £2.
Wow, a drink's a fiver in my local.
Definitely not in the south any more.
Well, the further up you get, the further your money goes.
I heard drinks are free in the north pole.
Have we met somewhere before? You seem dead familiar.
Don't think so.
Who's your friend, sweetheart? I'll have to buy her a drink.
Oh, it's a him - Charlie, Charlie Goodman.
Do you remember him? Yeah, there was a Charlie who used to come in here years back.
Lives in the States now, I hear.
America? Whereabouts? Well, if you were a friend of his, you'd know that, wouldn't you, sweetheart? It was a priest who found Nigel.
Did you know that? Most addicts die where they shoot up.
I suppose there's less motivation to move.
But Nigel was found on the steps of a church two miles from his bed.
Now, what's this got to do with owt? Nigel was clean for seven years, sees Charlie, and he dies of an overdose the same week.
What Nigel was looking for when he dragged himself up those church steps, we'll never know.
Maybe redemption, maybe protection.
But either way, we know who put him there.
I think maybe you should leave, yeah.
Sharon, when did you last see Charlie? Still can't believe it.
Started laying into his mates.
Come on! Who wants it?! Come on! Who wants it?! What set him off? All I can tell you is what he told me before he left.
"I'm not your friend.
" Who wants it?! - Is it all on that memory stick? - Yeah.
No, no, hold on! Wait, what are you going to do with that? Want to take a picture?! OK, everybody, we've identified a prime suspect.
If we could just gather round.
Big Shot - Sal carried that name in the ring for 43 fights.
His radicalisation most likely took place during his brief prison stretch.
His history with El Adoua, Deutscher Boxsport-Verband website shows an eight-month gap in Sal's fighting record.
Conveniently, this overlaps with El Adoua's alleged Hegira to Syria.
Holly.
In both the Turin and Rotterdam attack cells, El Adoua relied on local contacts to introduce him to his new recruits.
Mr Brahimi is most likely using his gym as a cover for grooming.
Full surveillance, financials, comms.
Echo 1, I have to go, eyes off.
I'll circle back to base.
Delta 1, I'm eyes on.
Until we know the location and extent of the attack cell, assume any sign of police activity could accelerate or even trigger an early attack.
We need to run background checks on all gym members.
Can we get access to his client list? My source tells me he keeps his membership files on site.
Can your source handle a UC introduction? Not a problem.
This takes priority for all counterterror units.
Yes, guv.
Yes, guv.
Tell me he's not going to go in there doing that.
Look, I'm getting in the zone, darling, putting on Faisal.
Wait - he's NOT Faisal? How comes he's got two names, I got to walk in there with mine? Cos you're not a cop, are you? - Come on up.
- What? Got you a fresh brick.
Very good, take it over to Faisal.
You know my brother's still convinced I got diddled.
That wasn't my intention.
- Well, what was it, your intention? - I think we're done here.
You know, when you came into my house, told my mum I got child-molested.
DC Morten, go home.
- I'll go back - Go home! You're interfering with my operation.
That's an order! How much was the signing on fee, 50? - I don't want her around.
- Noted.
- 50, was it? - Yeah, 50.
There you go.
Then there's the waiver form.
What info do they need? Address, number, emergency contact, that kind of thing.
They'll make him sign it, then he'll put it in the binder with everyone else's.
You want to know who goes to that gym, - it's probably in that red binder.
- Right.
Well, introduce Faisal around, and make sure he meets the Big Shot.
Big Shot gives him the forms, Faisal signs up.
Why does he need me holding his hand? Cachet - everyone trusts the Rizla! Yeah, but no-one likes him.
Still hear you, dears.
Yeah, sorry, bruv.
It's all that preaching, innit? Not a great look.
Look, you just get me a minute alone with that binder, and I'll do the rest.
Make them like him.
And your mum'll get her passport.
Where are you going? You told me to go home.
And if I told you to walk into traffic? - It's what he needed to hear.
- Did it work? They're up now, let's find out.
- Doing this, man.
- Yeah, relax.
Shoulders back.
Yes, Sal! Got a new recruit! Meet Faisal.
Needs to get in shape.
OK, round up in three, two, one, go! Brother, we're at capacity right now, yeah? So just leave me your number in case someone drops out.
Yo, bruv, I'm good to pay extra, but only if I can join up now, though.
Listen, there's one of them crossfits nearby, I'm sure they'll be happy to take your money.
Lukasz, I want you to snap those shoulders, yeah? Yo, yo, yo, show me that, you want to snap your shoulders, all right? Yes.
When that jab hits, I want you to cover your chin, use your shoulder.
Bruv, the guy's got to learn how to defend himself, man.
He's been mugged three times already this year.
He's got like a target on his back or something.
Listen, it took me a whole week just to convince him to get down here.
Look, every time I see that brother, he's always by himself.
What's that tell you about him? That he could do with a friend! You'd really be helping him.
You vouch for him, yeah? Absolutely.
All right.
If he's a twat, it's on you.
- All right, Faisal, yeah? - Yeah.
Listen, I have two rules - no wankers, no phones.
- No, guv.
- All right - you boxed before? Nah, you know, only in front of a mirror when I was a kid and that.
OK, what are you, 5'11"? Yo, bruv, why are you going to do me like that? I'm six foot.
What are you lingering for, man? What, are you getting lonely without him? Hey! Go hit the bags, man! All right, brother.
Any injuries I should know about? Yeah, my right leg, innit? Emergency contact Got into a fight with some ruffians in Hyde Park, you get me? - Right, one of them ones, yeah? - Yeah.
OK, well, the only fighting that goes on in here is in the ring, all right? I'm going to need you to fill out that form.
Yo, Cut, you're getting lazy man, stop looking in the mirror! - Yo, move those feet, man! - Shut up, man! Hit the ropes! Yeah, but you got that registration fee as well? - Yeah, how much is that? - 50.
What, you come here to sit down, or you come here to work out? What's good, Cut? - Luke.
- Riz.
What, you and Dadir split up, then, yeah? Nah, he's just on his grind, man.
I hooked him up with my old job at the warehouse.
You should look for better job.
Ren don't care - job's a job.
Hey, what's with you and Faisal now? What, are you trying to get on your din? Bruv, he just hopped up to me, asking for help.
I couldn't turn him down, man.
Didn't even know you was trying to live righteous now, fam.
I heard stories otherwise.
Heard you're rolling with the Albanians now.
You're moving mad! Oh, yeah? You should be careful the kind of stories you're telling, bruv.
Hey, you've been here for like a minute, fam - calm yourself, boy.
- Oh, yeah? Sure about that? - Yeah.
- Bob and weave, bruv! - What the fuck? - Bob and weave, man! - Bruv! - Move your feet! - Hey, what are you doing? Hey, stop.
Tell this guy, man, move your feet! Hey, what are you doing? - You're getting me mad! - No shit, bruv! - Yo, knock it out! - Come on, bob and weave! - You know the rules, man.
- What you been waiting for, innit? - I didn't ask for your opinion, OK? You think I'm playing with you? - You saw that! - What are you looking at me for? No wankers.
What you acting like wankers for? All right, both of you, two-minute plank, now.
- Nah, man, nah.
- Are you still talking?! - It's not even my fault! - I'm always the victim.
Any time today! Four minutes.
I didn't ask for your opinion, OK? You think I'm playing? Get down right now.
Down.
- I didn't do nothing.
- Five minutes.
Shut up already, Rizla, just get on the floor.
What, you really think you can do a ten-minute plank, yeah? Starting now - you touch the ground, that's another 30 seconds.
This ain't fair, man, I started mine like a minute ago.
I want to see good form.
Get on with it! Frickin' hell, man! Behaving like idiots, like babies! Oi, Faisal! Yo, what did I say about no phones, man? Oh, sorry, bruv, just forgot today's date, innit? Yeah, yeah, just put it away, man.
Yo, did I ask you to stop?! Is there something in the water today?! Let's go, man! Let's go! - What are you doing? - You want to see something cool? Check this out.
She was basically my age when that was taken.
Sadia Khalil? So, why does she call herself Shar? Ummi? Cos that's who she is.
Not technically.
She never got married, though.
You're a right smartarse.
Don't you think that's weird, though? How she's living with us unmarried men? Where else is she supposed to live? It's haram, innit? Uh, Abu drinks, I seen you pinch my cigarettes - is that not haram? She's like a whore, basically.
- What did you just say? - Nothing, don't worry, bro.
It's a kuffar thing, innit? Who's filling your head with all this shit?! - Let me go! - Is this Akash? Start talking now.
Get off me, man, relax.
Akash! Akash! He's obviously not here.
- No shit.
- No shit what? Nothing, just Kash must have got the car working, I guess.
What car? What car?! The referee said it was a foul but I .
.
in my swimming pool.
- Can we get a swimming pool? - No.
How did you get so muddy? - Well, that's what you told me to do.
- I don't think I did.
Wait, wait.
Oh.
Right - Get your boots off.
- OK.
Oh - OK.
- Thanks.
Go upstairs.
Hi.
- Can I help you? - Yeah, I'm a friend of Gabriel's.
Oh, he's not in, I'm afraid.
Sorry, who are you? Sharon.
I was just Well, I don't know what I was doing, honestly.
And you're a friend of Gabe's from? Oh, since forever ago.
Oh, since before the little 'un was born.
Since before you, even.
Oh, you're very pretty.
Do people tell you that? Thank you.
Yeah.
I'll get going if he's not here.
Sharon! Um, do you want to come in for a cup of tea? He should be back soon.
Yeah.
Sugar? Three.
Two, please, thanks.
Mummy, that woman's funny.
- Why is her hair wet? - Go and watch your videos.
- You have a lovely home.
- Thank you.
Jesus - bloody builders! Did Gabriel buy you all this? Oh, no, I have a job.
Oh.
What do you do? I teachat the university.
Oh, looks and brains.
What do you teach? History - post-colonial, mostly.
A fancy way of saying modern.
What about you, Sharon, what do you do? - I'm a singer.
- Wow! What do you sing? Post-colonial, mostly.
Those are nice earrings.
I've got a pair just like them.
They're a giftfrom a friend.
Anyone I would know? I doubt it, sweetheart.
Dad's back! - Lori, go upstairs now.
- But I'm watching Upstairs now.
Go and get cleaned up, please.
Hello? Where are my two favourite ladies? In here.
- Ay up, Charlie.
- What are you doing in my house? Gabe, who is she? - What are you doing in my fucking house? - Oh, it's a lovely house.
- Where's Lori? - She's upstairs.
- Go upstairs and stay with Lori.
- No! Who is she?! Never mind, who the fuck's he?! I don't want to hear another word from your mouth.
- Oh, really?! - Em, upstairs with Lori now! No, I'm staying here.
I'm arresting you on suspicion of aggravated trespassing.
You do not have to say anything, but anything you do say your defence if you do not mention when questioned something you later rely on in court.
Were you a cop when you were shagging me, Charlie?! Anything you do say Were you a cop when you were shagging me, Gabriel?! You bastard cop! Ow! Charlie, Gabriel! Why is everyone shouting? Right, come on, let's get you in the bath.
- When's Daddy coming back? It's film night.
- I don't know.
Can we still have ice cream? Why is the bath full? Go back to your room, sweetheart.
What's this, penny for t'guy? It looks like your mum's old car! No, no, no, put it out! - Put it out! - Kash No! Get off! Oh, no! I can't believe you did that.
You stay far away from him.
- I want to hear you say it.
- Say what? - Say it! - Yeah.
I'll stay away from him.
Stand back, please, ladies and gents! - It's OK.
- Stop touching me! Give me your hand.
Don't come back here, Sharon.
Or what, you'll arrest me again? What else was I supposed to do? You were in my house.
You've been in my house plenty! Why me? Skittles and all them I get, but why me? Part of my job was to blend in with people's lives.
Relationships are a part of life.
So, I'm wallpaper for your investigation or whatever? America, Florida - that's all bullshit? Yeah.
I lent you money! I sold my piano! Christ, I met your dad! It wasn't my dad.
And when you went to his funeral? But you cried, you Your head were in my lap, you were crying! What was it for? It was just to make you believe it.
Fucking You! Fucking! Look, it wasn't all a lie, right?! I loved you! That wasn't fake.
You didn't love me, Gabriel! Fucking Gabe or whoever the fuck you are! You loved who they let you be when you were with me.
Some of those transgressions that happened in the pub, they never made it to trial.
That could still change.
No-one can know about me, about this.
Never.
Do you understand? Yeah.
Ems? Emily? See, now you got to find your stamina again, man.
That is what happens when you spend too much time away from the ring.
Duplicate phone came in.
Yeah, that looks like a perfect match.
There go, get Imran's eyes on it.
Well, that looks splendid.
What about when he turns the bloody thing on? Has it got all of his apps? We can't replicate his exact system set-up, but when he turns it on, he gets an error message.
We'll swap his phone back when he takes the dummy in for repairs.
- Do you know where the real one is? - Yeah - desk, top drawer.
- Well, if it's in his pocket - Well, then, I improvise, dear.
Unless you'd rather wait for the attack cell to say, "Hi" No.
So, I'll be making the swap tonight, then.
All right, let's go, man.
Well done, well done, well done.
Did good, man.
Peace, man.
Straggler! I thought everyone was gone.
Yeah, bruv, I have to stretch my leg, innit? That tear still giving you aggro, yeah? Yeah, bruv, it's bad.
Listen, I've got some Tiger Balm, it's in the back.
- Let me go grab it.
- Yeah.
Got the phone.
Yeah, here you go, man.
Let me show you, actually.
Sit down.
- Are you sure? - Yeah.
Ah, thanks, bruv.
The trick is to go around the joint.
Yeah? Like that.
- How's that? - Yeah, that's good.
All right.
All yours.
Twice a day.
Thanks, that'sgenerous.
Any time! Ah, shit! Yo, Faisal, brother, you know anything about phones? Yeah, rule two - no phones.
No, it's just Error 142, you know what that could mean? Ah, I don't know, bruv.
Best taking it to the phone shop.
I beg you let me use yours.
Just to make a quick call.
- You what? - Let me borrow your phone.
Yeah, of course, bruv.
Yeah, I got the minutes.
Yeah, go for your life.
Cheers.
Out.
Get him out.
Crash in.
Round the back, round the back! Officer down - we need medical and ARV immediately.
Stop, police! Stay where you are! Call it in.
Imran, stay with us.
- It's late.
- But you're up.
Where are you? I said where are you? Home.
Obviously OK, don't resist.
Armed police, get down! Police! Do not move! No-one's resisting, no-one's resisting! - What's going on? - What is this? What is going on? - Get out! - Quiet! Don't touch my bloody son! Where's your warrant? Show me! - I know my bloody rights! - I said calm down! - Keep calm! - Please, don't! - It'll be OK, he's just - Right, that's it! Come here! What have we done?! Take off your clothes.
Put this on.
Did you tip him off? Bruv, your feds busted down my fucking door! - Did you tip him off?! - Tip who off? I don't even know where I am! Section 41 of the Terrorism Act gives me 28 days to hold you here without charge.
Terrorism Act? I work for you! Sal - did you tip Sal off? - About what? - Did you fucking tip him off?! You've got spies on him 24 hours of the day - did you see me rolling up talking shit?! Imran's dead.
Who? Fucking Faisal! Shit.
Bruv, I only know Sal cos you told me to go into that gym.
I only know Faisal, or Imran or whoever, through you.
The only thing I know about any of this is because of you, so whatever you think I did, you did it.
Well, get comfy.
Get nice and comfy.
Cos if I find out you had a hand in this, they'll bury you in this place.
I'm done.
I'm done! I'm not your snitch! I don't belong to you! Do you want to stop doing that? Your man survived by family? Widow and a daughter.
Three years old.
I'll make sure they're notified before the press blackout's lifted.
Did I hear correctly that your suspect is yet to be processed? He's stuck in traffic.
For five hours? I want a safety interview before he meets with his solicitor.
Any minute he spends alone with one of yours and no legal rep is a year off his sentence.
And the moment he sits with his solicitor, all we get is a guilty plea and no replies.
We don't know the location of the attack cell.
I need him to talk.
Police transport's going to run out of petrol doing laps around Hyde Park.
Yes or no? As cities go, this one's prettier at night.
Go ahead.
That's our green light.
Can you pull over here, please? - Follow us.
- Yes, guv.
- Just drive until I tell you to stop.
- Right.
Gabe? How are we supposed to do this? Just keep emotions in check.
Ours - not his.
- All right? - Yeah.
You can turn the camera off all you want.
I've been beaten by the best of them.
I know, I've seen your record - 49 fights, 22 defeats.
The camera's actually there for your benefit.
We believe you're aware of an imminent threat to public safety.
If you provide us with any information that prevents a loss of life or a terrorist attack, we can present this interview to the judge, who is authorised to impose a reduction on your sentencing.
OK, and is it also for my benefit that my solicitor ain't here yet? Where's the attack cell? Who even makes you lot come try chat to me the moment after I kill one of yours? Like, it's got to be rough, man.
Are you admitting to the murder of a police officer? - I did what I did.
- You understand the murder of an officer carries a whole-life sentence? You saw what I did to your boy - how much do you think I care about this life? We don't know what you care about, Sal.
We don't know why you killed Faisal, why you thought his death was necessary, or what you hoped to achieve by causing it.
Only you know that.
If you're willing, you'll tell us.
If you're not, you won't.
We can't force you.
We don't want to force you.
All we want to do is save lives.
We're not taking notes, not writing down any questions.
Where is the attack cell? That's all we want to know.
That cop died because this is a war.
People die in wars.
That's just the truth.
But I don't think you want more people to die.
Ah, so now you think you know what I want.
No, but I know pretending when I see it.
You came back home, set up your gym.
That's a smart move.
But we've been through your files, Sal.
Plenty of angry young men coming through your doors.
A lot of them were headed down the wrong road before they stepped into your gym.
They cleaned up, plenty of them went to uni, they're working, no scrapes with the law.
That's no accident - you did that.
They're good kids.
I'm not going to argue with you.
But at some point the lie became real, didn't it? When did you change your mission? My mission is to serve.
That don't ever change.
Where's the attack cell? Sal, look at me.
The people that are going to die here, they're not soldiers.
They're not on some battlefield.
They're no different than the kids whose lives you changed.
17 Chessington Close.
Let's get a head count on the nearby properties, find out how many civilians are in the potential blast radius.
24-hour surveillance.
We can't risk a detonation in a residential area.
And the DAC won't let us go in without confirmation of a device.
In the meantime, heat signatures, layout, occupants.
Let's see what's inside.
What? Here we go.
Deja vu.
Ow! What? Another white van for your collection.
This one's a rental.
Heads up.
Didn't we flag these two from Sal's client roster? Yeah, that's Farook Sayeed, and the other isZakir Raviya.
Let's have tail teams on standby, in case they step out again.
Hey! How did you know? Faisal - who tipped you off? No-one.
Then how'd you figure him out? The fool let me fix the wrong leg.
You get lost in the desert, you end up walking in circles, innit? Get dressed.
You're going home.
Oh, fuck.
What are you doing out here? Believe me - anything is better than being at home with your ummi right now.
Is she all right? Is she all right?! No, Raza, nobody's all right.
Look, what you do outside the house, that's your own business.
But when it comes kicking my door down at 4am .
.
enough is enough.
You've got to tell me what's going on, Raza.
British citizen - bloody hell! She come from a hard background, your ummi.
Only other Desi in Kingston when I met her.
That's when we moved in.
We moved into hers? I thought she moved into ours.
No.
Your mum had taken a bad turn.
I was between things.
We had to downsize.
It was only supposed to be temporary.
- And that's when Mum died.
- Yeah.
Your ummi never graduated.
Lost her visa.
Gave it up for you and your brother.
- That's why you've got to tell her.
- I can't.
Raza, love, you and Nas are always going to be her boys.
That's not going to change, no matter what.
Some of the people I deal with, if they ever found out what I've been doing What Ummi and Nas don't know can never find them.
You've got to promise me this stays between us.
But that belongs to her.
Come on.
Here she is.
Come sit down, my love.
We closed late.
I had queues out the door, everyone and their grandmother asking me why the police came to arrest my boy.
So, what do I tell them? You don't want to answer? I can't.
You can't? Then I can't have you in this house, and I can't have you near Nasir.
You want to waste your future, fine - he still has his.
You have to leave.
Hang on, no, you don't That's not necessary.
Ummi, come on, they already released me.
I'm not getting arrested again.
I don't believe you.
I called your work.
They haven't seen you for weeks.
You don't understand.
It's all done, we're good now.
No, we're not good, and I don't understand, so please explain - why are the police in my house dragging you out of bed? You don't know the whole story, Raza been trying There is no story.
You want me out, I'm out.
For your clothes.
I want you gone by the morning.
I'll leave right now.
Raza, love Where are you going to go? Hey, man.
Hey, I'll be good.
I'm trying to move out anyway.
Nas, it's all right.
Why are you letting her kick him out? She's not even our mum.
Don't say that, Nas.
It's just a little disagreement.
These things are complicated.
- She's not my mum.
- We always work it out.
Nas! Listen What you said to Abu - that woman's our mother.
You crossed the line.
And anyway, you can have the room to yourself now.
Sorry, brother, I ain't got no change.
You sure this is OK? You're the one that's got to sleep with a ghost.
Mum won't let me redecorate.
She won't even let me touch Yousef's decks.
Deep, innit? Are you doing all right, Rizla? Surviving.
Where are the translations? From what I've read, these confirm Sal's intel - the address, Farook, Zakir.
You're not a native speaker.
GCHQ only cracked the phone this morning, there were over 2,000 messages to transcribe.
Then find more bloody interpreters! They've got to come with clearance.
We don't want some freelancer broadcasting where an attack cell is.
We already have what we need, we have Sal's phone.
They don't know we have him in custody.
Look, we contact the cell, posing as him, we have Sal put someone forward for us.
Bring in a level one from another unit.
It'll take weeks to prep someone new.
- Number nine won't do it.
- I'd like to have a run at him.
If there's anyone he doesn't want to talk to more than me, it's you.
Go with Holly.
In-out, simple probe.
Shit.
- Huh? Shit what? - See you in there.
You can't be doing this.
You can't be here.
- Get in the back.
- I'm good.
But if you're still sitting around when I clock off, you can give me a ride back to Dadir's.
That's where I'm staying, now that I'm technically homeless.
Thanks for that, by the way.
Oh, would you look at that? Break's over.
Great chat! Hey.
Sal was part of a terror cell.
Here in East London.
We wouldn't have found it without you.
Get in the car, just hear us out.
Do you ever shampoo these seats?! Think about how many arseholes and dirtbags have been back here.
Probably already got fleas.
We need your help.
No.
Whatever it is, no.
The cell's set up the same as Rotterdam.
Two of the members are from Sal's gym.
Great, go get 'em.
We can't make any arrests without reasonable cause.
We just need someone to look inside and tell us who's there.
I should be laughing in your face, thinking I want to help you after how much you've fucked my life upside down.
But you're not, and you could have quit at any time, could have stopped answering the phone.
But you didn't.
What are you on about? - This geezer made me do it.
- Made you? Made you do what? It was your choice to pick up that bike helmet, - to take that money from Igli Gramos.
- Mm-hm.
- To set fire to that car.
- Yeah, we heard about that.
Listen, you can go back to packing those boxes, or you can help us try and save some lives.
Come on, Raza - you're a racehorse.
You know they shoot those fuckers in the end, right? Turn them into glue? Sleep on it if you want.
What's the point? Just gives those dickheads more time.
Good man.
See you later, then.
Bravo 1, I'm eyes on, subject heading north on Galway.
Roger that.
Bravo 1, subject turning east on Blackchurch, - making his approach.
- Roger that.
Delta 1, eyes on, he's slowing down.
You Raza, yeah? Get in.
Which one of you guys is Farook? Sal was saying you trained with him.
I didn't catch your name, brother.
Delta 1, asset's in place, subject continuing east on Blackchurch.
OK, roger that, we're watching him.
