I'm undercover

outside of the Brooks' house
waiting for them to leave,
so we can secretly renovate
their house while they're out.
Oh! And the entire team
is also undercover.
[man 1 on radio] Do your thing.
Standby. Looking. Looking.
[man 2 on radio] Go, Paige.
[Crystal] Come on, guys. Let's go.
-[Alfred] Ready to go to Auntie Amber's?
-[Crystal] Come on.
Here they come.
[man on radio] Here we go.
[Crystal] Make sure
your brother gets in the car.
[Danielle] Act normal. Act normal.
-[Crystal] You gotta get in the back.
-[indistinct chatter]
[Crystal] All right. Let's do it.
Yeah, yeah.
[Alfred] What are you
looking forward to playing?
-[Christian] Probably soccer.
-[Alfred] Soccer?
[Christian] Oh, look at that car.
[Danielle] Hello! Yes! Have a nice day.
Yes, thank you. Thank you.
Roll out. Roll out. Here we go. [laughing]
Shoot! I'm knocking stuff over.
Let's go! Let's go!
Let's move. Let's do this thing.
Let's move this baby.
Let's get this convoy moving.
Come on, team!
[Adair on radio] We're moving, man.
We're moving.
[Erik] Come on! Let's make it happen.
We are about to do
the biggest outdoor renovation
Of all time! ♪
-Let's go!
-[Erik] Let's go.
-[Danielle] Here we go.
-[all clamoring]
["All Fired Up" by Blues Saraceno playing]
[Nick] This backyard.
This is the biggest outdoor space
we've ever taken on.
Let's do this!
["All Fired Up" continues]
Coming up easy, baby.
[Nick] It's a lot of vines today.
There we go.
I feel like I don't really know
if I'm standing in the living room,
dining room, family room.
-Doesn't make sense to me.
-No.
It's the living-dining-family-office.
-It's a hybrid. It's all the things.
-[Adair] It's a hybrid.
[Nick] Every inch of this space
has to get done right now.
My name is Amber and
I'd like to nominate the Brooks family.
[both] Hi, we're the Brooks family.
Oh, I just got hit in the testes.
[all laugh]
[Amber] They're such a loving
and deserving family,
and honestly
they deserve the entire world.
This is my husband, Alfred Brooks.
I am Crystal Brooks.
We have two kids.
Five-year-old is Christian,
who is the life of the party.
-Hi, Christian.
-Hi.
Then our 15-year-old is Bryce,
who's just as cool as he wants to be.
Each one of them,
they are all special in their own right.
I work with Al as a teacher.
I think in about 20 years,
he'll still be known
as the most loved teacher at the school.
I'm a high school economics teacher.
What makes me different than most teachers
is that I have normalized
urban and hip-hop culture.
So I use social media,
whether I'm blogging
or shooting music videos.
I'mma teach y'all about politics ♪
All three branches of government ♪
[Alfred] It made it a safe place
for urban students
to really use hip-hop culture to learn.
I'mma keep
The whole thing neutral though ♪
This is the brother I never wanted,
and you know what? Mom likes me more.
Oh! That's actually true.
[Amber] So, Crystal is a nurse,
amazing woman, amazing wife, amazing mom,
always giving her all
so that her family can have the best.
Then you just gonna spin it over.
Yeah! Good!
I got into the field of nursing
because I had a mother
who suffered from breast cancer
for four and a half years,
and I saw the amazing, amazing impact
from nurses who touched us daily.
They're a very much loving,
put-together couple,
and the house
does not reflect that at all.
-I need a sanctuary. Help me.
-[laughs]
We bought this house in 2011.
It was a foreclosure.
We've always been so busy that,
truly, we haven't had the opportunity
or the ability to make it
look like the home it deserves to be.
[Crystal] First-time home buyers,
you buy the house, "Oh, this is great."
Then you have one problem you have to fix,
and another problem, gotta fix that
There have been moments of just
a feeling of failure when it comes
to being able to maintain the home.
[Alfred] This is my paint job.
[Crystal] This is the yard
that no one gets to play in.
We have so much space out back,
but the back porch is falling apart.
It's deteriorating.
The backyard is not what we need it to be.
We have to stay up here.
It's not safe to go down the steps.
The panic of them going down
the stairs is terrifying.
This is Christian's outdoor play space.
Bryce shoots basketball.
Christian plays in his homemade sandbox.
[Alfred] We try our best
to take care of the home as best we can,
but sometimes the repairs
get a little bit beyond your reach
and beyond your means.
[Christian] Oh! Not cool.
[Crystal] We want our kids
to be able to enjoy this home,
to be able to say, "Wow, this is
what we've been blessed to grow up in."
Did you see that?
They deserve this so much.
So please change their lives.
[Adair] Love this family.
Wow. We all had one teacher
that we'll just never forget.
-And let's not forget his beautiful wife.
-[Paige] Right.
And her being a nurse, my mom was a nurse,
and I see how hard they work,
and how they take care of people.
-Right?
-[Nick] I'll be honest.
I think the house isn't that bad.
It needs a couple fixes here and there,
but it does not reflect how stylish
and cool that they are as a family.
-[Paige] Right?
-So let's start from the beginning.
-Out front, Nick.
-The big thing for the exterior is paint.
I consulted with Adair.
Adair's got a cool new vision
for this front of the house.
When you pull up to the house,
the house should say,
"We're young. We're fresh."
Now, we go with a black house,
and then we also do a pop of color
on the door and we make it yellow.
On the inside, it looks really beige.
We're gonna bring in some color,
and delineate the space,
give them an actual living room,
an actual dining room,
and an office.
-[Erik] Into it.
-[Paige] Awesome.
That's it for the interior.
We get to go outside
where the real fun happens.
So, real quick,
before we head to the backyard,
I just wanna touch on the back deck.
[Paige] Ooh! The Stairs of Doom!
[Erik] We're gonna
replace all of this area,
and we're replacing
all of the railings with a glass railing.
So it's gonna open
the space up to the backyard a lot.
-Gorgeous.
-[Erik] So, then,
we'll swing around,
and we will check out the backyard.
We're going to show you guys
pretty much the outdoor oasis
that we've created together.
This entire yard is the special project.
Paige and I worked really hard
on this design,
the only problem is that it's sloped.
But in landscape design,
you can use a slope to your advantage
to create terraces.
One level above and one below
with a retaining wall in between.
Normally this would take weeks.
This will be literally
five truckloads of dirt
to even out the bottom
and have enough land and earth to do this.
[Erik] Actually physically moving the dirt
from the front yard to the backyard
through this sidewall here?
I don't know a way to move
five dump trucks in that span of time.
-We're gonna have to run some tests.
-Yes.
So the first level is more refined,
somewhere where Adair would hang out.
Right? We're gonna have seating.
We're gonna have a plunge pool.
-Wow.
-And a sandpit.
[Adair] Beautiful.
And you'll see that we
created a custom fire pit
with some Adirondack chairs around it.
And if you go this way,
we'll bring you to the basketball court.
Mind blown! Nice.
[Paige] So we are giving them
a half-moon basketball court.
Everything custom.
What's that back there?
This structure,
I actually have nothing to do with.
So, Erik, would you like
to explain to us what this is?
I had an idea. I really wanna give
these guys a tree house.
We're talking about a whole family
that likes to create content.
As a content creator myself, I know that
you can't create content successfully
with other people around dipping
into the audio, dipping into the video.
So I wanted to give them
a separate space to do that
in a tree house because it looks dope.
I wanna be able to prefab this
as much as possible.
All we have to do is to build a platform
in the warehouse. Drop it on site.
Get ourselves a retro camper
from the Interwebs.
We build out the inside,
we pick it up on a forklift,
and we drop it on top of the platform.
I know we got some rough terrain,
and stumps to go over, and trees to clear.
[Paige] Wow.
But I think this
could be something special.
I love the idea.
I'm just concerned that
we have so much happening in the backyard,
and you're just gonna drop
a trailer on the back.
If we have to build a tree house
from scratch, we don't have time.
If I can build a platform,
we build out the retro camper
in the warehouse,
and we just slap the two together
like a beautiful PBJ.
Like, we got a thing. Done.
Give this one to me, guys.
Like, I want this so bad.
[clock ticking]
[Erik] I'm gonna go up there,
set that camper height
so we can make sure it's where we want it.
-I'll clear that canopy out, okay?
-This is a little high for me.
I climbed trees as a kid.
All day, every day.
-My dad climbed a lot of trees too.
-Yeah?
And then he stopped after he fell
and broke his leg.
That's a good reason to stop.
[both exclaim]
[Nick] Nope.
There we go.
[Nick] Yeah, we're good.
Do one of these.
[upbeat music playing]
[Erik] Let's make it happen, captain.
I've called every hospital
within five miles
to make sure they have a bed for you.
Appreciate your concern, buddy.
My mother will appreciate it.
Whoo!
There it is.
-That looks good to me!
-Excellent! We're gonna call it a day.
[Paige] They're still prepping outside,
so I'm gonna help in here.
Okay, y'all are putting
a girl to work today, hon.
[upbeat music playing]
What I want to do now is measure
the perimeter of this first level,
so that we can start digging out.
["Push Up The Beat" by Laura Vane playing]
And so we shake off the day
And we kick into play ♪
[Nick] Good!
[worker] Yeah, looking great.
[Nick] Come on!
Now, we've outlined this first level.
And then the dirt's coming in later.
This is only about a third of the dirt
that we'll have on the day of.
We've got an hour window
to get all the dirt from the front yard
through that side yard and into the back.
And this is roughly the width?
[Erik] It is pretty narrow,
so we've gotta get this dirt
to the backyard some way, somehow.
If we get a front loader back there,
it can move more dirt in a single pass.
But it doesn't have the agility
that a skid steer does.
It's gonna take so much
time to turn around, get back up.
And this is a lot of dirt.
And this is exactly why
I have this for you.
So I'm gonna have a talkie in mine.
And I want you to coordinate this effort.
Whoo!
Dude, you're driving like my grandmother.
Come on. Let's go. Pick it up.
Dude, you're leaving
half the dirt on the road.
Uh-oh. I'm not in a good spot.
-[Erik] Watch yourself. I'm coming at you.
-[Nick] This is a tight one.
Yes, sir. No lie.
Erik, you do realize that on the day of,
you are currently
going over my retaining wall, right?
That's your retaining wall?
You just blew out
my entire retaining wall.
-[Erik] Yup. Noted.
-That is not gonna work on the day of.
No, it's not gonna work, but the
turning radius on this thing is massive.
This is a big machine. It's moving dirt,
but it's not moving enough dirt.
I have to find a solution.
'Cause this is not gonna work.
All right, whenever you're ready.
Let's get it done.
That's all the dirt
you can pick up on this one?
Come on, man!
Thing's not even full!
Try to come around and circle towards me,
so we can leave room for the other guys
to come in and drop right there.
Come on!
All the way up.
[dramatic music playing]
[Nick] Looking like
a major log jam up top.
[horn honking]
[Erik] It's a hard jam
when we're all trying to grab dirt.
It's a tight in and out.
[Nick] Erik, this is taking too long.
The traffic jam is severe.
It's already been 15 minutes.
Wait for him to come in.
Dude, it's looking
like bumper cars down here.
Back it up.
Back up Whoa! Hold, hold, hold!
Hold right there! Whoo!
Let's talk about this for a sec.
Dude, with the three,
as we're filling up one side,
that side gets full, we're losing space.
And we're a half-hour in and we've
already moved, what, half of this dirt?
Which is a third
of what we actually have on the day.
So either we bring the skid steers in
and we extend that time period,
or we just find another solution.
[Nick] Or we hire a better driver.
[Erik] Listen, buddy
[Nick] Right on top. This is the piñata.
Mario, come on, man.
You gotta give it better than that.
[Mario] Oh!
Yeah, I loosened it up for you.
[Nick grunts]
-Gonna be a fun one, huh?
-[worker] Oh, yeah.
[Erik] Come on, baby!
This is a wood plank,
and it's a peel-and-stick.
-No way!
-Really fast.
We're applying it to the entire wall.
-[Paige] Oh, it's gonna look so good!
-You know?
So then this will go right over here,
over the mantle.
-[Paige] Yes!
-It'll be a new focal.
-[Paige clapping] I love it!
-Right? So much better.
[upbeat music playing]
[Erik] Clear.
Coming through.
-[worker] Great.
-There it is.
Good stuff. Good stuff.
[upbeat music continues]
We have so much fun stuff to do today.
-It's already 10:30.
-[Erik] Yeah.
We got a lot accomplished,
but y'all got your work cut out for you.
So, what y'all feeling?
I'm feeling pretty good.
That's good coming from you,
'cause you be stressed out!
And today I'm not.
So I'm feeling good. What about you?
If your glass is half-full,
there is nothing in my glass right now.
-What? What happened?
-Because there is no dirt!
[dramatic music playing]
It is 10:30.
The dirt is supposed to come by 12:00.
There is no backyard
without that second tier and all the dirt.
So I'm worried
that if this dirt does not get spread,
we're literally gonna have a mountain
of dirt for the kids to play in.
We can't have a pile of dirt.
-Question. What time did you say it was?
-10:30.
So what are you stressed out about
right now, man? Relax!
Well, I'll tell you
what he's stressed out about.
If we don't have enough dirt in
the backyard, then we don't have a reveal.
The entire of this project
is the backyard.
I thought it would be here by now
because it has to go in at 12:00,
and I need time to prep it first.
[Erik] What I'm telling you
is we will get the dirt here.
-Don't worry. We're gonna make it work.
-[Danielle] Yes, we are.
-We're gonna be fine.
-Yes, we are.
And stay positive!
Because we got this!
-Y'all have done so much this far.
-[Erik] Come on!
Let's stay focused, let's do
what we gotta do, and get through the day!
-[Nick] "Dirt" on three!
-"Dirt" on three! One, two, three
-[all] Dirt!
-[Erik] Let's go!
[exclaiming]
[laughs]
[upbeat music playing]
[Paige] It's a dirt-heavy project,
and we're somehow missing the dirt.
See these headers
we got goin' on over here?
-Yes.
-Let's go take a look.
Oh, my gosh.
So these guys are content creators.
-They do a lot of things online.

wanting to do my thing

Yeah!
We're gonna have these posts up here,
and then I have a camper.
And we're gonna bring in that camper
and set it up on that platform,
and you're gonna have a camper
up in the tree as a content studio.
It's gonna be amazing!
All right, y'all, camper's here.
You ready to see it?
-[Paige] Yep. Great.
-I'm super stoked on it. Check it out.

[Erik] A little elbow grease,
it'll be fantastic.
Look, it doesn't look like much right now.

I can line it, I can insulate it.
But in order to really
take it to the next level,
I need help on that.
Okay? I will
