Is It Cake? (2022) s01e05 Episode Script

Cake Crashers

1
[opening theme music playing]
[bakers] Aww!
[Mikey] Oh.
Hello, bakers.
Hi, Mikey.
I'm dressed like this in honor
of a high school graduate in the house,
-Justin!
-[bakers cheering]
This very week, Justin's high school
graduation is happening without him.
Yes.
He instead chose
to bake hyper-realistic cakes on Netflix.
-[bakers laugh]
-You gotta do what you gotta do.
Good choice.
So, we're going
to have a mini graduation ceremony.
-[Andrew] Whoo!
-Take this hat, my friend.
Put it on, tassel on the right.
-[cheering]
-["Land of Hope and Glory" playing]
Now, to make it
even more authentically high school,
I will mispronounce your last name, Ellen.
Justin "Elelen."
[laughing]
[cheering]
Go, Justin!
There you are.
[bakers laughing]
[cameras clicking]
[Mikey groans]
I don't need this anymore.
Aw, that's so cute.
Isn't that how you always pictured
your high school graduation?
Being handed your diploma
by one of the white guys on SNL?
Andrew, you deserve
some celebration as well.
You are our two-time champion.
-[clapping, whooping]
-[Mikey] Whoo!
Andrew!
That means you've won a total of $25,000
in this competition, my friend.
Dinner's on you!
All nine of you have had a chance to bake.
But now, we're going to change the game.
[suspenseful music playing]
The winners of the next three challenges
will automatically earn a spot
in the finale.
That means only three of you
will make it there,
where you will be competing
for a grand prize
of $50,000!
-Woo-hoo!
-That is double what Andrew's won so far.
[laughs]
But the bakers who lose the next
three challenges will be eliminated
and banished to the gallery.
-[bakers] Wow.
-Ouch.
Wow. A lot of wows.
[laughs]
Okay, Andrew.
Since you won, you get to pick
which two bakers
you want to compete against.
Think about this carefully,
because whoever wins
will move on to the finale.
So, this is a big decision.
Oh man.
Who is your first pick?
Well, I do wanna challenge myself
against a fellow winner.
Ooh.
So, I think my first pick is gonna be
the girl that took me off the bench. Nina.
-[cheering, clapping]
-Nina!
Interesting choice.
She deserves another shot against me.
-Oh ho ho!
-[Andrew chuckles]
The sass!
I've earned it!
I'm ready.
I'm ready to take my title back.
[Mikey, bakers] Oh!
[chuckles]
And who is the final baker
joining you today
to compete for a place in the finale?
[tense music playing]
No one wants to make eye contact with me.
-Jonny's staring you down. "Pick me."
-Yeah, Jonny!
Let's go.
-[Mikey] Oh!
-[bakers] Ooh!
Okay! We got Jonny!
I'm competing against two winners,
so I'm feeling
like I gotta rise to the occasion.
The rest of you I hate doing this.
Please take your seats in the gallery.
[April] Ciao.
A lot is on the line here, folks.
It's time to play Find That Cake!
All right.
When the cake wall spins around,
you will see six items you'd find at a
party!
[murmuring, groaning]
Cake Wall, spin!
[clunks, whirs]
The game is the same. You have 20 seconds
to lock in your answers on your keypads.
If you're the fastest,
you get to pick first.
Your time starts now.
[tense music playing]
Ten seconds.
Five seconds.
Three, two, one.
-Lock them in. Time's up!
-[bell dinging]
Okay, bakers.
Let's see who gets first pick.
Did any of you pick the "Aight" beer?
-[laughing]
-That's my favorite beer.
The non-product placement beer, Aight.
"Dude! Can you pass me an Aight? Thanks."
-Aight.
-Let's see if Aight is cake.
[Nina] No. Oh.
It explodes. [chuckles]
-No. Not cake.
-[laughs]
Who here likes chips?
[laughing]
-Love chips.
-Love chips.
[Mikey] Jonny, you picked the chips.
Let's see if you found it.
[tense music playing]
-Nope.
-[stabbing string music]
-Oh, hey, all right.
-[Mikey] So, that's not cake.
Andrew, Nina. You both picked the piñata.
Let's find out if it's cake.
[tense music playing]
[Mikey] Ooh!
[Nina] Oh, yay!
[Nina chuckles]
[Mikey] That's cake!
With a little sprinkle party, too.
-Look at that.
-[Andrew] How cute.
I just cut
this adorable creature's butt off.
Well done, Nina and Andrew.
You were both right.
Andrew.
Hi!
-[laughs]
-[Mikey] You found the cake the fastest.
So, you get first pick.
Jonny, I'm sorry.
You didn't find the cake,
so you get last pick.
[groans nasally]
[gallery laughing]
It's time to play Is It Cake?
Bakers, you know how this works.
Each of you is going to choose
one of these party items
to make into a cake.
-Andrew, what's your pick?
-I think I'm gonna go with Number Four.
-[Mikey] Number Four! The red cups!
-[gallery groaning]
Was that a bad choice?
-No.
-[Sam] No, you got it.
-Okay.
-[Mikey] Why the red cups, Andrew?
It was one of the last ones I felt like
could be cake, so that's fun.
Nina, you came in second.
What is your choice?
Two.
[Mikey] The murdered chips.
[Nina laughs] Yeah.
You have to make chips and a bowl here.
Yeah, it'll be fine.
-And individual chips.
-[Nina] Yeah.
I guess with fondant, anything's possible.
[laughs]
And lastly, Jonny.
Six, 'cause I love wearing fun hats.
Jonny Hats is again Jonny Hats!
He's back in the building, folks.
Okay, bakers. Interesting choices.
Now, head over to the kitchen
and slide into those aprons.
-[whooping]
-[Nina] Good luck.
[Sam] Let's go!
[Mikey] We are giving you eight hours
to complete your cakes.
It's time to bake!
[upbeat music playing]
[Nina] This is always the fun part.
I couldn't be happier to be in the kitch
All my dreams have come true.
-I get to be in the kitchen with y'all.
-[Jonny] Uh-huh.
Is It Cake?
The three winners are here
to battle it out
to see who gets to go to the finale.
And I think that's
the fairest way to do this.
Andrew, what cake flavor are you doing?
'Cause it's a party,
-I'm doing almond funfetti cake.
-[Justin] Ooh!
And then almond buttercream
with, uh, popping candy in it.
-Ooh.
-Sounds good.
That sounds like a party in the mouth.
[Andrew laughs]
I'm immediately regretting my decision.
I've never made a stack of cups in a cake.
I've never done a funfetti cake.
And I've never incorporated
popping candies in my cake.
So I don't even know if that's gonna work.
Okay! Cake going in!
[cheering]
It's gonna be quite the challenge
to pull off a realistic stack of cups.
-Do you see the parchment paper?
-Right here.
You don't mind?
No.
This is my third bake.
And I feel a little more pressure.
Two of us can be eliminated.
That chance at a $50,000 grand prize
is gone if I don't ace this.
Nina! What are your flavors?
I'm doing a Neapolitan.
So, like a white cake, a chocolate cake,
strawberry jam, buttercream, and ganache.
-Wow.
-[Steve] Nice.
I go with the bowl of chips
because I think I can easily bake the cake
in a dome pan,
instead of having to carve it out of cake.
Which will allow me some time
to actually make
my wafer paper potato chips
as realistic as possible.
The chips are very important.
I need to ace these details.
[Hemu] Guys, does Jonny look better
with the bucket hat or a party hat?
I like the bucket hat. [laughs]
He's called Jonny Hats for a reason.
'Cause he can wear multiple hats.
[laughing]
[Jonny] I'm a little bummed out
that I chose the party hat,
because there's not much detail on it.
And I wanna impress the judges.
But the pom poms are going to be
the most difficult part of this cake.
Pom poms are weird.
I don't know what they are.
They're not quite yarn.
They're not quite balls.
So, what am I gonna do here?
This feels like
a $50,000 decision right now.
It's a kids' party hat.
What else reminds me of, like, childhood?
Candy. Candy bars.
So, I'm going with that for my cake.
-Jonny!
-Yeah?
What flavor are you making?
-[Jonny] Millionaire Bar.
-Okay.
[April] Oh.
[Jonny] Vanilla cake
with chocolate chunks,
dulce de leche,
and dark chocolate ganache.
And I did some toasted coconuts in it.
I mean, this is a tough challenge.
I'm trying to just enjoy it, you know?
I have to stop and be like,
"Oh, right, I'm having fun."
[laughing]
[funky music playing]
[Mikey] Andrew.
Did you just cross during my big entrance?
[Andrew] Sorry!
I didn't know you were coming.
[mock anger] How dare you?
Hello, bakers!
Hey, Mikey.
[Mikey] I have your decoys here.
Some plastic cups,
potato chips,
and small clown hats from the 1950s?
-[bakers laugh]
-So, come and get them.
And if you guys are stressed, don't worry.
It's gonna be Aight.
After a long day, when I need to unwind,
I reach for an ice-cold Aight.
Aight! It's the baker's beer.
I'm happy today ♪
'Cause I've found
What I've been looking for ♪
Mmm! Warning, Aight causes sterility.
[laughing]
Um
Okay. Come and get your decoys here!
-Enjoy.
-Thank you.
This is really tricky because my decoys
are the same hat in different colors.
I can't screw with the sizing.
I'm gonna have to literally measure
and weigh out each pom pom.
It's gonna be a lot of science.
You should see my report card
from high school.
You'd know I'm more of
an artist than a scientist.
-Do you need help?
-Yeah. I need help in so many ways.
[Mikey] Does anyone want an Aight?
-I'd take one.
-I'll take an Aight.
-[Mikey] Nins, you want an Aight?
-Sure, I'll take an Aight.
Mikey, I've never needed
a beer so bad in my life.
You guys want an Aight?
Justin? JK, dude.
You can't have an Aight, dude.
You're only 18, brah!
Happy today 'cause I've found
What I've been looking for ♪
All right, bakers, six hours!
Six hours remain.
That's plenty of time to make
your party supplies.
[upbeat music playing]
Do you know if they keep
the wafer paper out here?
I'm getting ready
to start on my potato chips.
To begin with my potato chips,
I first have to dye some wafer paper
in this yellowish tone.
Wafer paper is not necessarily
the tastiest thing on the planet.
So, I just wanna add a little vanilla.
That way, if the judges
do happen to taste it,
they'll get a little bit
of sweetness there.
I'm excited to compete
against these these two weirdos.
I think you don't think
I'm as good as you are.
-Oh! Whatever. Not true.
-[Nina chuckles]
I'm the only person
to have won twice in a row.
And now I have to pull off
the hat trick of all hat tricks
and win three times in a row if I want
any chance of going to the finale.
If I get it spot-on,
and if I get the flavor spot-on,
then that should do it.
The most difficult thing
about these party cups is precision.
So, I decided that the best way
to make a realistic-looking cup
is to use the cup itself as a mold.
I'm painting chocolate
on the inside of that cup
so that I can pick up every single detail.
Like the little recycling sign
on the bottom of the cup,
the ridges around it.
If I don't get every single thing right,
they're gonna know and I'm not gonna win.
No pressure!
Come on.
I have to get the exact same shape
as all the decoy hats.
So, I'm using acetate
to recreate that hat shape.
Acetate works like the world's best mold.
So, I pour the chocolate in the acetate.
And chocolate's delicate.
There's a really good chance
it will crack.
And I've got one chance.
Okay.
Oh, this one broke. Darn it.
These cups are so fragile.
I feel like every time I move them,
little pieces are breaking off.
And I've gotta layer cake
and buttercream inside these things.
So, I have to have a very gentle hand.
[Jonny] I never knew making cake
would be so stressful.
Yes, you did.
[laughs]
[sighs] Moment of truth.
I'm taking off the acetate.
And I'm not hearing any cracks.
It's like music to my ears.
Good job.
[upbeat music playing]
Going okay for you, Nina?
You can never tell.
To get this sort of brownish color
that I see in some
of the other decoy bowls,
I am mixing dark brown modeling chocolate
with white modeling chocolate
to get that perfect texture and color
that I'm looking for for my bowl.
-[Justin] Jonny, what are you doing?
-Getting a bucket of fondant.
-[Hemu] Fondant!
-I just love it. I eat it by the bucket.
Yeah.
Hundred and fifty percent, the pom poms
are the most difficult part of this cake.
So, to make my pom poms,
I'm gonna weigh out
eight grams of fondant per pom pom.
I roll that up into a ball shape,
and then I use an impression mold
to give it sort of a knitted effect.
I then grab a pair of tweezers
and pluck little pieces of the pom pom
up and out,
to emulate little stray hairs.
It is really hard
to have identical objects.
If anybody at home has a suggestion,
slide into my DMs.
All right, bakers!
We're getting close. Two hours!
Two hours remain!
[funky music plays]
Oh my gosh. I'm still working on chips.
But then, looking at these decoys,
I'm thinking I can glue chips
to the sides of the decoys,
so it looks like realistic chips
overflowing in a bowl.
And it's looking good.
Don't wanna go home, definitely.
Don't wanna sit on the bench anymore.
So, I'm hoping I can turn it around.
[Andrew] I hate cups right now.
These white lines that I have to create,
the the top of that cup,
if those are not absolutely perfect,
it doesn't look like a cup.
So, I'm going to use an extruder tool
to get the perfect rims
with white modeling chocolate.
It's a lot of lines, guys.
I don't know what I was thinking.
Bakers! Thirty minutes!
[Andrew] I wanna rip my face off.
I don't know why I chose this.
I'm excited. Even from up close,
these chips are looking very realistic.
I think I'm a chip connoisseur
at this point.
[Andrew] I wish this wasn't
an elimination.
I am so nervous right now.
In the end, they look like cups.
When I put 'em next
to these other cups, they're fooling me,
but I just don't know if I've done enough.
Five minutes!
[energetic music playing]
[Jonny] It's fuzzy time.
-Oh my God!
-[music warps]
[Mikey] What happened?
-[Mikey] Oh, no.
-[Andrew] Oh, no. Oh, Jesus.
[Mikey] Fuzzies. Fuzzies.
[Hemu] Go back and make it.
[Jonny] I'm not using these.
Oh, five minutes?
Okay, 'cause my cake just fell apart.
[April] Put the good ones in the front,
and just leave the back blank.
No one's gonna see it.
The pom poms were not secured well enough.
The piping gel didn't work.
It's just not strong enough glue.
[exhales] Wish me luck!
-[all encouraging]
-You got it.
Not to panic.
I know what will hold these pom poms on.
I just need to melt down some chocolate.
But, like, the chocolate needs to dry.
It needs its moment.
I mean, I am freaking out.
Party's over.
Time to call a car and go home.
-Okay. I had a little hiccup.
-[Mikey] Ten seconds!
-Time's up!
-[sighs]
Whoo.
[Jonny] I think I fixed it.
Best of luck to all of you.
The time has come.
Nothing stands between you and your chance
to move on to the finale,
except, of course, the judges.
So, let's meet them now.
He's an actor and producer
who has starred in Broad City and Narcos.
Your favorite Narco, it's Arturo Castro.
[clapping, whooping]
When people meet you,
are they surprised that you're super nice?
-[Arturo laughs]
-And intimidated?
Well, yeah, the Broad City fans
have no boundaries.
They're like, "Please kiss my baby,
lick this arm."
But the Narcos ones
come up like, "Mr. Castro."
[laughing]
She's a singer
and viral internet sensation,
Ms. Rebecca Black.
-Legend in the building.
-[whooping]
Woo-hoo!
Thanks for having me.
I listened to "Girlfriend."
-[gasps] Thank you.
-And I will say, it's a bop,
as the kids say.
I really liked it.
And you're going on tour, right?
I am. I'm going on tour, uh, in 2022.
So, it's safe to say,
you're living your best life.
Feels like it. I'm living my dream today.
I've always wanted to do this.
-To do this? To look at cake?
-Yeah. Exactly this.
Look at maybe a cake.
[laughing]
He's a comedian,
actor, and writer. Jon Gabrus.
[clapping, whooping]
Hi. Hello. Hello, hi.
I've heard that you've done
a few baking shows.
I have been on some other baking shows.
You know, I have a cake bod.
Uh, so, when I show up, they're like,
"This guy eats cake, clearly."
[laughing]
Judges, this is your mission.
The three of you will have 20 seconds
to find the cake and agree on one answer,
and enter it on the keypad
in front of Jon.
So you guys have to work together.
And there's a lot riding on your ability
to find these cakes today,
because at the end of the day,
only one baker will move on to the finale.
And the other two will be
eliminated from the competition
and forced to join the bench bunch.
All right, our first baker is Andrew.
He made what you find next to every keg
across this great nation.
Plastic cups.
They remind him of his days
partying with the bros at Lambda Chi.
'Cause you read frat bro to me.
Totes. Totes, dude.
-Totes, dude.
-[Andrew laughs]
Dude.
-Dude.
-Bro.
Spin around.
All right, judges.
Here come five cake stands,
each with a stack of plastic cups.
Guys, one of those stacks is cake.
You need to try and find it.
Your time starts now!
-[Rebecca] Oh my God. What?
-[Jon] They're all cups, for sure.
One's got a shine that's bothering me.
[Rebecca] Two is kinda giving me,
like, a weird gloss ratio.
No, I feel like Three is giving me
really, really good vibes.
-[Jon] Um, no. I don't
-Yeah, Four.
[Rebecca] I don't know.
-The lean of it feels weird.
-[Rebecca] The lean feels weird?
[Mikey] Five seconds. Lock it in.
-[judges yelling]
-Three, two, one. Time's up!
-Lock it in.
-[bell dinging]
You guys selected Number Four.
Are you guys all in agreement?
We all had three choices,
so I was afraid to not hit a button.
-Too much pressure! I quit!
-This is a terrible team.
[laughing]
Oh, I love it.
[exhales]
[Mikey] Okay, judges.
-Let's see how you did.
-Ooh.
Arturo, you were the strong voice
on Number Four.
Because I feel like it leans weird.
But maybe I'm drunk?
I don't know.
[laughing]
All right, judges.
Let's see if you're right.
Andrew, your future
hangs in the balance right now.
You're either going to be eliminated,
or get a chance to claim
that first open spot in the finale.
[tense music playing]
[sings dramatically]
[tense music continues]
-[Rebecca] Oh, no.
-No!
[Rebecca] Oh, no!
Not cake!
[whooping]
-Not cake!
-Great job!
Good job.
Andrew! Slayers gonna slay.
You did it again. Three in a row.
-Wow.
-The kid's good.
You deceived our judges.
This means you're up for the win today.
And you could be our first baker
to secure a spot in the finale.
You deserve to show them
where your cake is.
Will you do the cut?
Let's show 'em your cake, my friend.
Go for it.
Oh my God. Oh my God.
-He's faking us out.
-[Mikey] Where's he going?
-He's the ghost with the most.
-[Rebecca] What?
-This guy's very comfortable.
-Very casual with a knife in his hand.
-[Rebecca] What?!
-Oh!
-[Rebecca] What?!
-[Mikey] Funfetti!
Beautiful.
You're undefeated, my friend.
-Well done.
-[Andrew chuckles] Thank you.
Next up is Nina.
[cheering]
Nina.
Okay. Nina made something everyone
likes to see at a party.
A bowl of chips.
-Ooh.
-A bowl of chips?
Cake Wall, spin!
Judges, you're about
to see five bowls of chips.
But one of them is Yep, a cake.
The question is, can you find it?
Your time starts now!
-[Rebecca] Oh my God.
-[Jon] Oh, no, no, no.
Oh man. Okay. Forgot how hard this is.
[tense music playing]
-[Jon] No.
-Do you think Three?
-[Jon] I might be with you.
-[Rebecca] You think Three?
I kinda think Four?
I mean, I don't
[Mikey] Ten seconds!
Look at all of that
on the outside of Four! Right?
[Jon] Oh my God. I don't know, dude.
Oh, that's some good thinking.
-Three, two, one. Time's up!
-[bell dinging]
What did you select?
[Jon] We landed on Three.
-How are you guys feeling?
-Not good.
-Nina!
-Yes.
Everything has come down to this cut.
If this is cake, you will be eliminated.
[nervously] Oh, no.
Let's find out.
[tense music playing]
-[judges gasping]
-No! It's not cake!
[whooping]
-Oh!
-[Rebecca] Oh my gosh!
-[Jon] Oh, thank God.
-[Mikey] Nina! Congratulations.
You fooled the judges.
This means you're up for the win,
and you're one step closer
to securing a spot
to compete in the finale.
How are you feeling?
I'm ready to claim my throne again.
-The queen!
-Yes! Okay.
All right, Nina. Why don't you come
show the judges which one is your cake?
[chuckles]
Toy with their minds.
-[Jonny laughs]
-[Jon] Oh.
[judges] Oh.
[Rebecca gasps]
Ah!
-Really? What?
-[Mikey] Oh!
Oh! Okay.
The queen messes with her subjects!
Okay.
[Rebecca] Oh my God.
[gasps]
-[Rebecca] Oh
-[Jon] Oh my God.
-What? How?
-[Jon] Chips on top.
[laughing]
-[Rebecca] Wow.
-Whoa, that looks like cake to me.
Wow.
[clapping]
It's time for our last baker. Jonny.
No good time is complete
without party hats.
Cake Wall, spin around!
Judges, there are about to be
five party hats in front of you.
And one of those party hats is, yep, cake.
So, it's up to you guys to find it.
Your time starts right now.
-[Rebecca] What? No.
-[Jon laughs] No!
-[Jon] I quit! I'm out! Okay.
-[Rebecca] Oh my God.
-One's got a weird lean.
-What?
[Rebecca] Which one has a weird lean?
-Number One, sorry!
-One, oh. Two?
[Arturo] I don't know. They both lean,
and they're on the corner.
-[Mikey] Ten seconds.
-Four? I don't know.
-[Arturo] One or Five?
-[Rebecca] They all look the same.
-Four is
-[Mikey] Five seconds.
-Wait! It might be Three.
-[bell dinging]
-One?
-Oh! I said Four when you
Four?!
-You said Four!
-Nobody said Four!
-Cut to the tape!
-[Mikey yells]
Roll the tape!
[Mikey] Time's up!
Judges, let's see if you're right.
-You selected Number Four.
-[Rebecca] Yes.
-Correct.
-And why is that?
That's a great question, Mikey.
Because our friend panicked
and picked that button.
-No, I'm kidding.
-[laughing]
There's something about the shine to Four
that's a little different than the others.
-Mr. Jonny Hats.
-Yes.
-You ready?
-Uh-huh.
[kisses]
Dramatic lighting on this.
[laughs]
You're either going to be eliminated
or up for that first spot in the finale.
We'll find out. Is it cake?
[tense music playing]
-No.
-[judges groaning]
-No! Not cake!
-[Jon] Is it wafer paper?
[clapping, whooping]
[Mikey] Jonny Hats does it again!
Well done. Why don't you come up here
and show the judges
which one is your cake.
You got it.
Ooh, he brought a blow torch.
Whoa.
Oh.
Here he goes. You heated it up
[judges] Oh!
The old torch fake-out. Oh!
[Jon] Huh? Oh!
It's this one over here.
-Ah!
-Oh!
[chuckles]
-Oh, wow.
-Oh, there we go.
[Rebecca] Wow.
Oh ho ho!
[Rebecca] Wow!
[Jonny] There it is!
Andrew, Nina, Jonny, congratulations.
Hat trick!
You have bested our judges for the
chance to win not only up to $10,000
but a golden ticket to the finale.
How do you feel?
-I feel great.
-Amazing.
Yeah, I'm I'm very, uh,
grateful to be alive in the competition.
[laughing]
I wish all of you guys could win
and move on, but it's not up to me.
Our judges must take a closer look
-[wearily] No.
-before making their decision.
So, it all comes down
to the taste and details.
Here we go. Cake Wall, spin!
-Wow!
-Number Two is cake! Number Two is cake!
[laughing]
All right, judges. Your cakes await.
Okay, cake.
Scrutinize.
All right, Andrew.
Tell us all about your cake.
[Andrew] So I did a funfetti almond cake.
And then I also did an almond buttercream,
but it has popping candies inside of it.
-[Jon] That little sizzle thing.
-[Arturo] It's so creative.
This is so creative in so many ways.
The cup itself is delicious.
Such a genius combination.
It is a party in the mouth.
-This is insane.
-This is insanely realistic.
[Arturo] Excellent work.
Up close, they look even more plastic.
The shine is unbelievable.
Oh my God. Look at the
The little recycling bit is a
-[kisses] stroke of genius.
-Wow.
[Mikey] Nina,
please tell us about your cake.
[Nina] So I did a Neapolitan.
So, there's chocolate layers of cake,
strawberry jam, buttercream,
and chocolate ganache.
[Rebecca] I really like the flavor.
It's delicious.
[Arturo] This is so much effort.
-It is so much effort.
-[Arturo] Individually painting these
The chips look
a little bit less real, yeah. Yeah.
But there's a high difficulty.
-[Rebecca] Definitely.
-[Jon] It's like a big swing.
-Pretty incredible.
-Wanna move down to the hat?
-[Mikey] Okay. Jonny?
-Yeah.
[Mikey] Tell us about your cake,
the flavors and everything.
[Jonny] So, this has vanilla cake layers
with chocolate chocolate chunks in it,
toasted hazelnut,
and some dark chocolate ganache.
-The ganache is crazy.
-[Arturo] Yeah.
The pom poms look real.
Yeah. It worked.
[Rebecca] The lettering
looks like real stickers.
It does look like paper little letters.
-Right.
-This one blended very well.
-The flavor
-The caramel, dulce de leche
-[Jon] It's bangin'.
-It's absolutely insane.
Judges, you've had a chance
to review the cakes, so please deliberate.
-I mean, they're all unbelievable.
-Okay, guys
-The level of difficulty that this took
-Was very high.
-[Rebecca] Super high.
-[Arturo] But the change in distance
Gave some things away.
And in my mind the change of distance
made this more powerful.
The level of craftsmanship that it took
to create that is really so impressive.
And the cake inside is fantastic.
-But Jonny's
-That flavor is out of control.
-Insane. The ganache, not too sweet.
-That's directly made for me.
But I think that one's
so much more visually impressive.
The essential question, is it cake?
Yeah, yeah. Exactly.
Okay, judges.
You've had time to talk it over.
But it's time for you to tell us
which one will advance to the finale
for a shot at $50,000.
Have you reached a decision?
[Jon, Rebecca exhale]
Well, everyone did a wonderful job.
Obviously.
And from a distance and up close
really does change perspective.
But in the end, we think, just absolutely
crushing it in the realistic front
[tense music playing]
is Andrew's red cups.
[Andrew] Oh my God!
Andrew!
Oh my God!
Congrats! That means
you've just won another $5,000.
Thank you, guys!
And you are our first baker
to secure themselves a spot in the finale.
Well done, King.
Congratulations.
[Arturo] Well done.
-How does it feel?
-I don't know what to say right now.
I hate getting emotional with this stuff,
but really, thank you guys so much.
[judges chuckle]
Let's show our judges some love.
They crushed it!
-Thank you, Arturo, Jon, and Rebecca.
-Thank you.
Sorry. By order of Netflix,
you must leave on the cake wall.
-Plant your feet. It moves pretty fast.
-Oh, no.
And there's a bunch of knives up there,
so be careful.
Oh my God!
All right, Cake Wall, spin!
-Oh!
-Whoa!
Goodbye, judges!
Bye!
[Mikey] See? It's not that bad.
Bye.
[Jon screams] Let go of me!
It opens up to a slide.
Nina and Jonny, I'm sorry, guys.
This is definitely the hard part.
We haven't had to do this before.
And it sucks.
Uh, you have been eliminated
from the competition, guys.
Please take your seats in the gallery,
where they will welcome you with hugs.
Your rhinestone glasses
are filling with tears.
-A little emotional?
-Yeah.
-Yeah.
-Awesome.
[laughs]
[Mikey] Why so emotional?
I'm just Uh
You know, I'm always, like, the weirdo
and the oddball
who people don't take seriously.
[Andrew chuckles]
And I'm just not used to being
the one that people consider the best.
And it's crazy 'cause
these are incredibly talented people,
and I just feel incredibly honored.
I'm just totally surprised.
-Don't make us cry now.
-I'm sorry!
-[April] What are you doing?
-I love you guys.
All right, Andrew. This could be
the last time you ever get to do this,
so let's make it count.
For the third time,
it's time to play Cake or Cash?
Andrew, you just won $5,000.
So that means
you've won a total of $30,000
-in this competition so far.
-[whooping]
Unreal.
Last time you played this,
you won 15 grand.
This time, you could win $5,000.
On the other side
of that cake wall, Andrew,
are two presents wrapped in money.
-Okay, buddy?
-Okay, buddy.
Cake Wall! Show us what you got.
One of these presents is filled with cash,
and the other one is,
and I'm only gonna say this once,
is cake.
If you guess the cake, you get the cash.
You have 15 seconds to decide
which one of those is cake.
And your time starts now.
[tense music playing]
[sighs]
[Andrew] I just have no idea.
I have no idea.
[beeping]
[Mikey] Six seconds.
-Five, four, three, two, one.
-[rapid beeping]
-Lock in your answer! Time's up.
-[bell dinging]
[clapping, whooping]
You picked Number One.
I'm looking at those,
and they look identical.
Tell me why you picked Number One.
I don't know. The bow is a different bow,
but that doesn't mean
that it's not a real bow.
-I have no idea.
-[Mikey] Let's go see if you're right.
If Number One is cake,
you win another $5,000.
I've seen them both,
been told which one is cake.
Standing right here,
don't know which one is cake.
You chose Number One.
If this is cake,
you will win another $5,000.
[exhales] Let's see if you're right.
-[tense music playing]
-[laughs evilly]
Oh my gosh!
[tense music continues]
-Oh.
-[Mikey groans]
Not cake.
I'm sorry, Andrew.
And when it's not cake, it dies.
[laughs]
Should we just have some fun
and cut the real cake?
Sure.
All right, you cake.
Oh, yeah.
-[Andrew] Wow.
-[Mikey] Oh, yeah. Look at that.
That's a beauty.
Here's the good news.
You've won $30,000
so far in the competition, buddy.
And you're our first baker
moving on to the finale.
How are you feeling?
Relieved and tired.
And overwhelmed.
Now, you get to sit back and watch as the
six remaining bakers play Find That Cake
to determine the next three people
trying to join you in the finale.
-Wow.
-[Mikey] Well done.
I'm Mikey Day, and, uh this is Aight.
[bakers laughing]
Andrew! You did aight! You did aight.
[Hemu] Did aight!
Are you guys excited?
-Yeah.
-[Mikey] Oh my God. This is lukewarm!
[bakers laugh]
[closing theme music playing]
