[TONY] Burn your clothes, everything.
Shoes, socks, undies, the lot.
I reckon you had dinner
somewhere else. What do you think?
Yeah, yeah.
You and the missus?
And the missus, that's right.
You ever had sex with this?
Well, you've got to try it once.
[MAN] You must be Doyle.
Luke O'Neill, you'll be
partnering up on this one.
Police! Drop the weapon, drop it.
We're in a months long operation,
and you have just royally fucked us.
That's new. A Vietnamese dealer
operating here.
You're here to tell me to stay
away from Kings Cross, or
It's not really a choice.
[GLASS SHATTERS]
What the fuck did they get?
[ROBBERS CHEER]
The whole thing corrupt.
The entire New South Wales police force?
[NASA] I have all their names,
80 cops, they take my money.
Hey Nasa!

[TV NEWS THEME ON TELEVISION]
[TV REPORTER] Nasa Kalouri,
Kings Cross nightclub owner
and alleged underworld
figure, was shot dead
outside his suburban Sydney
home several days ago.
His wife, Arianna Kalouri,
who was inside
at the time of the shooting,
found Mr. Kalouri
bleeding and unconscious
in their driveway after
hearing several gunshots.
Paramedics pronounced
Mr. Kalouri dead at the scene.
Mr. Kalouri's death comes soon
after his explosive TV interview,
where he threatened
to reveal all he knew
- about endemic corruption
- I should never have let this happen.
He should never have opened his mouth.
He wouldn't have followed through, John.
I want to know who.
This is not the time.
We need to keep our heads down.
Get back to work.
You take over as shot caller.
I can't do it, but you can.
Ten times better than any of us.
Then we build a team of our
own, place them in venues.
I've already got things in motion.
And yeah, we'll still have
to kick up for collections.
But for now we can take Nasa's share.
Look after Arianna.
You got every little step
all figured out.
Man's body is still warm, John.
It's business, Sam.
You can't let them forget
who runs the street.
Don't worry, they won't.

[O'NEILL] Talk about overkill.
Not exactly a professional job.
[DOYLE] Or that's what
someone wants us to think.
[KEMP] Well, whoever knocked
him did us a favour.
All the publicity means the
pollies in Macquarie Street
won't be able to sit on
their hands much longer.
I say we've got a couple of weeks
before we have to declare ourselves.
So, go now, go hard, people.
None of us is known in this town.
So with a bit of luck and a fair wind,
this lot won't see us coming.
We're not going to be very popular,
going after one of the
state's most decorated cops.
Well, it's not too late to
go home to Perth, Lukie.
- I'm just saying.
- I don't give a big
rat's arse who they are.
If they're bent, they're fair game.
And don't forget their mates,
the ones who paid them off:
the loan sharks,
the racketeers, club owners,
standover men! Happy days.

[TV REPORTER] Born in Lebanon,
Nasa Kalouri
took no time in establishing
himself in Kings Cross,
soon after his arrival
in the late 1960s.
In the wake of Mr. Kalouri's very
public threats to spill the beans,
any one of his erstwhile friends
in Sydney's underworld
could be responsible
for his untimely demise.
- [DRAMATIC MUSIC]
- [INDISTINCT SPEECH]
[TV REPORTER] Police have
so far refused to comment,

death may lead to an escalation

I just want to hear from you
exactly how this is going to work.
Because you may have noticed
things are changing out there.
Coke is bringing the degenerates.
We've got the Viets rapping on the gate.
Stronger police presence.
This is not the time to be disorganised.
Our businesses depend on it.
Well, it's going to work the
same way as it did under Nasa,
only better.
So you're Nasa?
I'm me.
And Sam?
Sam's with us.
You sure?
Because I haven't seen
his mug since the funeral.
No, he's good.
He'll run the streets,

while I get the new guys in.
We need time to make this work.
But you two, you don't need
to worry about a thing.
I'll deal with Ezra, too.
John, you want to be real

Charlie's Angels.
Oh fuck, forgot to tell you.
Spoke to a mate of mine, Jeff.
He works in Canberra. He knows Doyle.
He reckons she's fucking off tap.
Bit of a maverick.
Yeah right. Unmarried, never has been.
Possibly a muff diver.
Which is a bit of a shame, because
apparently she's a two pot screamer.
[INDISTINCT CROWD NOISE]
[CRELLAN] Doyle.
Fancy bumping into you here.
Small world.
Apparently.
You staying around here?
I am.
I like it cheap and cheerful.
There's plenty of that around here.
Listen, you still owe us that drink,
and we were going to go
and have a cheeky one
before we go and see an informant.
You want to come with us?
It's a bit early for me.
Yeah, coffee would be good though.
Ahhh
Cosmo?
[MOONEY] So here we are.
Scene of the crime.
[DOYLE] Thanks.
Lucky shots weren't fired.
It was a pretty heavy crew
you boys were mixing with.
Well, that's the job.
What exactly is your job, detective?
It's keeping our ears to the ground
so we can constantly check
the temperature
of the street and see what
these pricks are up to
who would slip their own
mother's throats
if there was a buck in it.
And what's the temperature
like at the moment?
Red hot.
And look, ideally, we always
want to work our way to the top
and then nail them when we get there.
But clearly with Nasa, we failed.
Which is a shame.
He was a, he was a good bloke.
If you look past the extortion,
prostitution, and racketeering.
Well, does homicide have a suspect?
Not that we're aware of.
But it's early days.
Fuck, there's plenty of competition
who's going to come in
and try and fill that void.
I'd follow the money.
Try and think who's going to
benefit the most from Nasa's death.
Sam Ibrahim would be my bet.
All right, we're going to
go and meet this bloke.
If you need anything else,
just let us know.
And if anything comes to us
from homicide, we'll pass it on.
[DOYLE CLEARS THROAT]
- All right, see ya.
- See ya, mate.
[INDISTINCT CROWD NOISE]
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
[CAMERA CLICKS]
[DOYLE] I don't believe
a fucking word he says.
[O'NEILL] That's a prick of a
job when you think about it.
Cosying up to crooks?
But like someone's got to keep
their ear to the ground.
He seems pretty good at it.
Sounds like you're defending him.
Defending who?
Detective Sergeant Bryan Crellan.
This one's got the hots for him.
John and Sam, the Ibrahim boys.
Crellan's pointing the finger at Sam.
But apparently Johnny went
from doorman out in Parramatta
to owning three clubs in
the Cross in a heartbeat.
Plus he's opening another one tonight.
Maybe he won lotto.
Yeah, or maybe he just has
one hell of a work ethic.
He was buddies with Kalouri as well.
Or enemies. We, we don't know yet.
So you think he killed him?
Maybe.
The point is, he's ambitious.
He has a lot to lose.
If we push the right
buttons, he might flip.
Maybe bring the whole
deck of cards down for us.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
Hey, this must be the place, huh?
Howdy, brother.
Is your boss home?
He is not ready yet.
Don't worry, we'll find him.

So you guys are in Homicide, really?
We're just looking into Nasa's murder

outside his suburban Sydney

His wife, Arianna Kalouri,
who was inside
at the time of the shooting,
found Mr. Kalouri

Paramedics pronounced
Mr. Kalouri dead at the scene.
Mr. Kalouri's death comes soon

Have a good night.
[JOHN] Mark.
- [MARK] How are you John?
- [JOHN] Hey.
[MELODIC ROCK MUSIC]
[MUFFLED MELODIC ROCK MUSIC]
Sam, thought we'd lost you for good.
Yeah, yeah, collection for upstairs.
It's already been collected.
Who?
[STEPH] John.
John does downstairs.
Well, this morning he did
downstairs and upstairs.
What, he didn't tell you?
[SAM EXHALING HEAVILY]
Next time, you wait for me.
Take it up with your brother.
[DEMI] I noticed last night.
Who is it?
Could be Jaslyn, Freddy, could be Deano.
How much are we talking?
[KNOCKING]
I'll catch you later.
[DOOR CLICKING]
Smooth.
Haven't lost your touch
with the ladies, I see.
Huh?
It's good to see you.
You want a coffee?
No.
[JOHN] How you been?
Fine.
I heard you collected from Steph.
Yeah, I just didn't know
where you were at, so.
Yeah, don't try that again.
[DRAW OPENS]
Been calling you.
You don't answer.
[PAPER RUSTLING]
Where you been?
None of your fucking business.
- Busy.
- Busy?
What with?
Sam, people rely on us now,
employees, customers, the whole Strip.
I need you here.
Fuck
- Sounds like an order.
- No, it's not an order, just
You tell me what you want,
because I've done my bit,
I've expanded the team.
Who?
Levi, Commando Nick, Karate
Steve, Mr. Puck, a few others,
they're all your guys and
they're ready, they're waiting.
Just look, I'm happy to pick
up the rest of the slack,
I just, [SIGHING]
there's some shit that needs
sorting is all I'm saying.
Like this cop that you bashed.
His friends are after
you to stitch you up.
It's not funny, they want
to run a scrum on you.
Oh yeah? Well, you
can sort the Jacks out,
it's what you're good at, isn't it?
I can't help you if I
can't reach you, Sam.
[SOFT TENSE MUSIC]
Help me?
[SOFT TENSE MUSIC]
Wow.
[SAM SIGHING]
Look, I know you're
still upset about Nasa.
Don't talk to me about Nasa.
[SOFT TENSE MUSIC]
- [TONGAN SAM KNOCKING]
- Ew, boss, all good, huh?
Some nice, fresh water here.
Sammy.
[PAPER RUSTLING]
[SOFT TENSE MUSIC]
[SAM SNORTING]
[SAM SNIFFING]
Hey Habibi, you should probably take it
easy, yeah, get some rest?
[SAM SNORTING]
I'll sleep when I'm dead.
You know, we should think about
doing some business together.
There's a fuck tonne of
money to be made, brother,
a fuck tonne and the stuff is
so easy to shift,
just like that.
I mean, maybe that's why your brother
didn't want me dealing
in Stripparama that time.
[SAM SNIFFING]
Just saying he's a smart
cookie, I'm sure he's in on it.
No way, not John.
Sure about that?
And as for that dumb fuck, Joey Romano,
the balls on that bloke.
Listen, Sam, all I'm saying
is I've got contacts,
I know people, cuz, I'm
serious, we can compete,
drive Joey out of business.
You've got the skills,
you've got the network,
you've got the respect on
the street, I can help you.
[DOOR KNOCKING]
[SOFT TENSE MUSIC]
[GUN CLICKING]
Shit.
[KNOCKING]
[GUN CLATTERING]
[DOOR CLICKING]
Surprise, it's just me.
[GENTLE MUSIC]
What do you want?
Um, I-I got you a burger.
I thought you might have
a case of the munchies.
[PAPER RUSTLING]
Thanks.
Um, it seems like you're going
through a really rough time
and I just wanted to let you
know that I'm here for you.
[GENTLE MUSIC]
I want to help you.
Let's get out of here,
get some fresh air.
[DOOR THUDDING]
[TRAFFIC RUMBLING QUIETLY]
[SKINNY STEVE] Cunni what?
- [PK] Cuntilingus.
- [LAUGHING]
- [PK]lingus!
- I can't fucking pronounce it.
It's because it's fucking Latin, man.
It's cunnilingus, I told you.
He's fucking Mr. Know It All, here.
Hey, Johnny! [SNAPPING FINGERS]
What's this clicking shit?
Hey, Demi, Demi!
Where are you going?
[DEMI] Um, I'm quitting.
You're what?
Please don't make it worse,
just let me go.
No, no, no, don't, don't give
me that shit, talk to me.
Something happen, someone
do something to you?
No, I just, look, I really
need to get out of this space.
You're in trouble, you need money?
What's going on?
It's Sam.
[SOFT TENSE MUSIC]
What about Sam?
You know, I used to,
I used to really think
he was one of the best people I know
and now he's just a fucking cokehead.
Do you know that?
[SOFT TENSE MUSIC]
Bullshit.
You're going to lose him,
and I really can't be around to watch.
- I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry.
- Demi, Demi, Demi.
Come talk to him.
Please come with me,
we can do this together.
Take care of each other.

Everybody out.
Bro, relax, all right,
we're just doing
- [BLOW THUDDING]
- [MAN GROANS IN PAIN]
[SAM LAUGHING]
Get them out of here.
Let's go, ladies.
[DOOR THUDDING]
I taught you that.
What is this?
What's wrong with you?
Why, why, how come
everyone's so concerned
about how the fuck I am?
Because this isn't you.
I don't know what the fuck this is.
You used to be a
dead-set hero to people.
[TV BUTTON CLICKING]
- To me
- Man, shut up with that bullshit.
[JOHN] Our famous Sam Ibrahim.
The guy who used to bash me
for smoking in mum's backyard,
don't you remember?
Yeah, we're not kids anymore.
Well, what are we then, huh?
We fucking junkies?
People respect you, Sam,
because you're not like this,
- you're a straight shooter.
- Shut up, mate.
[JOHN] You're like an older
brother to a lot of guys.
I said shut up.
You're like a father to me.
[TENSE SOFT MUSIC]
I need you back, Sam.
I can't do all this by myself.
I need you beside me.
[SOMBRE MUSIC]
All this shit, just
Just stop.
Just stop.
[SOMBRE MUSIC]
You know, when I was a kid,
I would've followed you anywhere.
[DOOR CLICKING]
[DOOR THUDDING]
[SOMBRE MUSIC]
[BACKGROUND PEOPLE CHATTERING]
[DOYLE] Ah.
Ah, we don't open for
three hours, who are you?
Mr. Ibrahim, sorry to barge
in, Liz Doyle, Luke O'Neill,
we're investigators with
the Kings Cross Taskforce.
You've probably seen us around.
I met you briefly at the
Cosmopolitan back in September.
AFP, right?
Ah, she is, I'm not.
I don't mean to be rude,
but I don't talk to cops,
honest ones anyway.
Well, that's unfortunate
because we're interested
in the murder of your
friend, Nasa Kalouri.
We believe you were one of the
last people to see him alive.
The last person to see him alive
was the person who killed him.
Please, the exit's that way.
What was the last conversation
you had with him that night?
I think it was about garlic sauce.
Yeah, word on the street is
you're now doing Nasa's work,
shot caller, we've heard
it's pretty lucrative.
It's a classic motive, John.
Do you mind if I call you John?
Can I call you Mary?
So you guys are in Homicide, really?
We're just looking into Nasa's murder
in the context of a wider investigation.
And you think I'm good for it?
Are you?
What was the date again?
[DOYLE] Tuesday the 12th of September.
- Time?
- 11:05 p.m.
Yeah, see, Tuesday night's my
poker night, they run late,
so it's unlikely.
We'd just love to have a good,
old-fashioned chin wag with you,
just get your take on what goes on here.
Who's up who and why, how it all works,
the system, the players.
Why Detective Sergeant Bryan Crellan
seems to be everywhere the action is.
[SOFT TENSE MUSIC]
I told you I don't talk to cops.
Hm.
Catch you later, Mary.
[MELLOW MELODIC MUSIC]
Oh, she obviously knows every one of us,
who we are, what we do, she's
trying to shake things loose.
She's trying to fix me up for Nasa.
She closing in on you, is she?
What the fuck does that mean?
- [TOILET FLUSHING]
- [DOOR CLICKING]
Listen, he was our friend,
me and Sam want to find out
who did it just as much as the Jacks do.
How's Sam doing?
What do you mean?
- He's good.
- Yeah?
Well, I'll tell you what,
you get him sobered up
and get him back to
fucking work, all right?
This place relies on order
now more than ever, John.
So just fucking pull him into line.
He needs to do his job,
do you understand?
And we're done.
[SOFT TENSE MUSIC]
This Taskforce thing.
Yeah. All right.
Oh, you know that thing we talked about?
Get it done, yeah?
Yeah, mate.
[PAPER RUSTLING]

Luke.
[VCR BUTTON CLICKING]
[TENSE MELODIC MUSIC]
[O'NEILL] Oh, that fucking smart arse.
Come on, you didn't
really think he did it?
You know what though?
I bet he knows everything
that goes on up here,
just where all the bodies are buried
and it's just a matter of putting him
between a rock and a hard place.
Just convincing him his only
rational option is to tell all.
[TENSE MELODIC MUSIC]
[WATER TRICKLING]
[MANSOUR] You're never going
to stop the blow-ins,
so why not sanction those of
us who've been around a while?
Sam, let me work the street,
give my guys a place, some protection.
We'll get two runners per
dealer selling at a bus stop here
and a street corner there, no overlap.
You keep the shit out,
I'll manage the boys
and pay you a fat cut.
This will create order, you know,
which solves a big problem
for your dumb brother too.
[BACKGROUND POP MUSIC]
Mention my brother again
and I'll snap your neck.
Yeah, yeah, no, sure, no.
All I meant was he
can get in the way, of us.
No offence meant.
Habibi you're going to make ten
times as much as you do now.
Yeah, yeah, sounds too good to be true.
It's 100 percent true.
How are you going to manage all of this?
Where do you get the product
from, who the fuck do you know?
I know certain people, all
right, I have contacts.
Contacts?
Bullshit, you're a fucking clown.
No, brother, this is once in a lifetime.
[TRAFFIC RUMBLING QUIETLY]
[WAALI SNORTING COKE]
Just give me a chance, all
right, let me show you.
[SAM EXHALING HEAVILY]
All right, show me.
- [TENSE MELODIC MUSIC]
- [BACKGROUND PEOPLE CHATTERING]
All right.
Hey.
[TENSE MELODIC MUSIC]
- [MAN KNOCKING]
- [DOOR CLICKING]
So how did you go?
Your meeting?
Yeah, good, he's in, I reckon.
[MADAME TIEN] So when do we begin?
Soon I guess, but I haven't
been paid properly yet, so.
Of course, you've done
great work for us.
So how much did we say?
We didn't, but listen,
I swear I can make this
worth your while if you can
make it mine, all right?
I'm like Sam's lieutenant,
he listens to me.
No doubt, you a power player,
that's why we came to you.
So?
A couple of ounces, halas.
Hey, fair is fair.
[SAFE DOOR CLICKING]
[SAFE DOOR THUDDING]
For your trouble.
But I want a meeting with him alone.
It's not an issue, I can
arrange anything you want.
All right, he's ready to
collaborate, believe me.
- Thank you, Mansour.
- Yeah, you're welcome, all right.
Hey, keep this up, I'm happy
to be of service, all right.
Thanks, boys.
[MANSOUR] Yalla.
- [BACKGROUND POP MUSIC]
- [BACKGROUND PEOPLE CHATTERING]
[CAR HORN TOOTING]
[BUCK] Hey, boys, boys, boys, boys!
Porky's has got the best
naked meat in the street!
Boys, upstairs at Porky's.
- [BOTH LAUGHING]
- [BUCK] Hey, guys, guys,
we've got glamours, we've got machines,
we've got everything you need.
Watch this.
- [JOHN] Hey, Buck!
- [BUCK] Good, yeah.
Yeah, Johnny?
Ask him what the numbers are.
No worries, no worries, cuz.
Casey, man?
[CASEY] Yeah, 300, top.
Yeah, Stripperama is about 300, he says.
No, it's 250, he's lying, ask him again.
- What?
- Hey, donkey, don't lie to me!
Did he say something about your mother?
What, what you talking about my mum?
- [BOTH SHOUTING]
- [JOHN] Hey, get back to work.
[BUCK] Hey, fellas, fellas,
fellas, fellas!
- [BOTH LAUGHING]
- We've got machines,
we've got everything you need.
Hey, hey, hey, it's a jungle in here,
watch out, watch out, watch out.
We've got the best titties in the Cross!
Ezra's here.
[BACKGROUND PEOPLE CHATTERING]
[BUCK] Ladies, ladies!
[BUCK] Fellas, fellas, fellas,
upstairs, talking!
- Hey, man, hey, over here!
- [CAR DOOR CLICKING]
[CAR DOOR THUDDING]
Smiles.
Ah, it's a good day.
Oh, good for you.
I sorted that problem.
Doyle's got nothing, she
can't tie me to Nasa anymore.
[PAPER RUSTLING]
I think we've got our wires crossed.
Oops!
[GENTLE MELODIC MUSIC]
I didn't ask you to do this.
This guy's a nobody,
he's not a threat to us.
Well, he might've become a threat,
one day.
Better to be safe than sorry.
My mum used to say that.
[SOMBRE MUSIC]
[CAR DOOR CLICKING]
[CAR DOOR THUDDING]
What do you think?
We'll see.
[UPBEAT DANCE MUSIC]
Hello, mate.
There's a hundred there, a bit more.
Make sure you get Sam off the shit list.
You're a good brother, Johnny.
I hope he sees that.
Liz Doyle, has she made
contact with you yet?
Yeah, you're right, she's looking at me.
She's also pretty interested
in you and your mates.
Yeah, we know, we've seen it all before.
She's just a lapdog for politicians,
who think that they can reform this all
and make front page heroes of
themselves at the same time.
She's looking for a weak link.
- Of course she is.
- She's not your standard Jack.
No.
Something
different.
Like you said, one to watch.
Johnny, all we have
to do is stay staunch,
keep our mouths shut
and she and her mates
go home empty-handed
just like anyone else that's
ever tried to take us down.
We'll be all right.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
