Mobbed (2011) s01e05 Episode Script
Brawling Brothers
This fight with my brother is so bad that I think the only way to apologize is to do something huge.
It's a feud among a band of brothers It's a really stupid thing that I did.
If he was not my brother I would put him in jail.
Is tearing a family apart.
If I can just get him to forgive me, that's going to mean more than anything in my life.
But is an apology enough? I'm so nervous right now about walking up to him.
That's gonna be horrifying.
It's the riskiest - If I punch somebody - Oh, my gosh.
- most volital - Don't raise your voice! and explosive Mob yet.
That is garbage! (Screaming) Hi.
I'm Tim Jarzibech.
I'm 28 years old.
I really need your help to apologize to my brother Nick.
My brother and I play in a band called "No".
And we played our entire lives together.
And right now, because of me, we're not speaking with each other and we're not playing music.
It's all my fault.
I've always had to bail my brother out of trouble.
And on my birthday he called.
But instead of wishing me a Happy Birthday, What does he say? Come bail me out again.
Come pay for our van to go out of the towing yard.
I was so upset, that in a moment of anger, I stole all of his clothes, and I stole his Les Paul guitar, which meant the world to him, and I went out and I sold it all.
Little did I know, while I was stealing all of his things, he was actually throwing me a surprise birthday party Ooh.
And I feel really, really horrible about that.
This fight between us is so bad, it's also tearing our family apart.
Wow.
I don't know if he's done something that might be irreparable.
I mean, he went and sold the guys guitar and the clothes.
Does it extend beyond just these guys? There actually is a total of three brothers that live here in Los Angeles.
And in talking to Tim, he let us know that his mom came to visit them for about a week.
And they basically built a schedule of when who was spending time with mom 'cause they wouldn't all spend time together.
I want you to speak to the mom.
She would want to be involved.
So this is an apology.
But it's not only an apology that says I'm sorry, it's an apology that brings the whole family back together.
- Yeah.
- Let's do it.
I can understand the anger that Nick has for Tim because he took his guitar.
And this happened in the midst of Nick trying to do something nice.
I'm hoping that Tim can redeem himself because there is no bigger gesture.
I can't think of a bigger gesture than a Mob.
I'm in a band called "No".
And it's just me and my two brothers and our good friend who plays base.
Mike started playing piano when he was, like, four.
I was playing drums till I was, like, 10 years old.
Nick started singing ten years ago.
And our dream is to make it in the music industry.
We're not successful musicians yet.
We recorded a lot of music, played some small shows, toured a little bit.
"No" just takes over everywhere that it goes.
Iraqi border.
Saudi border.
That's what we do.
We just take over.
We just take over the world.
Tim: My brothers and I are really close.
We're from a small town in North Idaho.
Nick and I were the closest growing up.
We shared the same interest in scary, old movies.
You know, writing music together.
And because of this fight, we don't do that anymore.
It's like, everything we did growing up didn't happen.
You just think about it.
It's really sad.
Nick's the youngest.
And I would end up bailing him out a lot when he ran out of money.
And I ended up maxing my credit cards out to get him out of some trouble.
It just adds up and adds up.
And it kind of drove me over the edge.
My mom's really upset about this whole situation.
I know my dad's upset about it.
And the longer that we don't talk, the more it just kinda breaks my whole family up.
This fight is so bad that I think the only way to really apologize is to do something huge.
If I can just get him to forgive me, that's going to mean more than anything in my life.
Tim says that this fight is tearing the family apart.
But we're only hearing one side.
So here's the mission.
I send David and Ish, our producers, to set up a hidden camera, ruse kind of thing, where Nick is gonna show up thinking he's doing a documentary on a band trying to make it in L.
A.
- Hey, how's it going? - How's it going, man? - I'm Nick.
Nice to meet you.
- Thanks for coming in.
I don't know how bad this really is.
This could all be in Tim's mind.
So I wanna hear from Nick.
- It's four of you guys, right? - Ah, yeah.
Mike occasionally.
Ah, Tim and Justin.
Mike and Tim are our brothers.
All right.
I'm cool.
We're brothers but we do fight.
We don't actually practice and gel like your stereotypical band you would think, in the garage.
We used to.
We don't do it anymore.
I don't get along with Tim.
I don't talk to Tim.
I don't want anything to do with Tim.
What happened there? I just don't deal with people that are dishonest arrogant, bad people to begin with.
Gotcha.
He steals.
- Your brother stole from you? - Oh, yeah.
He's a douche bag.
No joke.
If he was not my brother, I would beat the (bleep) out of him.
And I would call I would put him in jail.
That's part of the reason I don't talk to him.
I don't associate myself with people like that.
We got a real challenge with this one.
'Cause it's family and there's a huge rift between these brothers.
You feel free to let him know the way I feel.
I don't care.
I hate to say this.
There's hatred there.
And as successful as these flash mobs are in bringing people together, this one's I don't know if we can do it.
Yeah, he's just a lowlife.
Howie: So today, we have decided to come to the Americana and we're doing our scout.
We met Nick yesterday, and it's worse than we thought.
No joke.
If he was not my brother, I would beat the (bleep) out of him.
And, you know, I hope that he accepts an apology.
I'm not so sure anymore.
So I got a place that I know that I want this to start.
Not out in the open.
Can I take you to a condemned building? - Let's go.
- Can we blow it up? I don't know.
We'll decide.
Oh, wow.
I'm thinking that this could be like a warehouse where we're gonna What do these guys think, Dave? Right now Nick believes that we're interested in him for a T.
V.
show about for a TV show about bands in L.
A.
trying to make it with the help of a record producer.
Bring the guys here under the guise that this is the space that we're gonna use for the show.
- Is this a good place to dance? - This is an amazing place.
Look at this.
Back light.
We do these at night.
So I see lights going on in the windows, and then the dancers appear in front of the windows.
And it'll be like the silhouettes coming toward them.
Are there hot lady's walking behind me? Yeah, 'cause nobody, the cameraman or the person interviewing me is not looking at me anymore.
Hello? I'm talking about our Mob.
Hello? When the dance starts, it should be scary.
- Scary.
- I mean, scary like, he doesn't know Intimidating.
Like he won't know what's happening.
David was saying they're really into scary movies.
So scaring them will be fun.
We're gonna scare the be-gebbies out of Nick.
We're gonna start with fear.
And fear is gonna segway into dancing.
That's what we do here on Mobbed.
So, Howie, when we come out of the doors, right, we kinda need to activate something for him to see.
And we saw this really cool link to street surfing.
- What is Street Surfing? - Street Surfing It looks like as if they have a huge tarp down and then you simply just pull a corner of it up and over, and it gives you this big wave It looks like a wave and then skateboarders go through the tube.
- I don't like it.
- You don't like it? - How come? - I don't know.
- I was just - It's gonna be amazing.
- What are we building to? - We got to reveal the brother.
I have a friend, this guy DJ Ravidrums, who plays with, you know, Britney Spears video He's got this amazing drum set that lights up.
Would it be neat to have this setup someplace on the street here - So Ravi and Him play together? - That's what I'm thinking.
When Nick sees this drum set and sees that his brother is drumming there, this will be the first time that he'll realize Wait.
Tim has something to do with this.
So guys, over here, this is the stage.
They're building it for something else.
We're gonna ask the property if we can keep.
And then I think it would be really cool if the whole thing culminates after an apology with them doing their first national television concert.
Tabitha: What if we organize, Howie, the Mob? Instead of having them all over the place, we organize them in lines.
And maybe they're marching in - as we come from the last song.
- That would be cool as hell.
I mean, it's gonna be a challenge for us to get the Mob to keep their lines Ultimately, the goal is to get the brothers together - and then play at the end.
- It's risky.
We have to do a fantastic job to spin this thing around and get an apology accepted.
Howie: So here I am at David Vanacore Studio.
Our music guy, I have an amazing idea for a left turn to do to Nick to launch the Mob.
But first I got to run it by his brother Tim.
Hi.
You must be Howie.
How's it going? - I must be.
- Nice to see you.
We have learned there's nothing more precious to Nick than his music.
So what I have decided to do is to mess with his lyrics.
Okay.
So here's the plan.
You're gonna meet the producer of this show.
The guy is going to say, You guys are signed.
- Can I talk to the lead singer alone? - It's obviously Nick.
We tell him, the only thing we don't like about the group - are the lead vocals.
- Okay.
Not only do we not like his singing, we're gonna replace the vocals with something I'm sure he'll love.
Okay.
Rap.
He hates Rap.
(laughing) When you launch a mob, it's always better when the person is more vulnerable.
When they're taken off guard.
It make them a little more open to accept the apology we want him to accept.
So I have a friend here who is one of the premier rappers.
And we are gonna take all your tracks and we're gonna rap them.
And we'll have the producer play that to him and say, This is the way you have to so.
You have to lip sync to this.
That's gonna blow his mind completely.
- That's - (Maniacal laughter) - But it'll be good, right? - Wow.
I'm like, scared.
- Are you really scared? - Yeah.
Howie's plan is insane.
Nick doesn't like any re-mixes.
He doesn't like his songs touched.
He doesn't like his lyrics messed with.
Ah, anything.
Meet me after dawn - Hey, Tim, - This is Ace Hood.
- I'm Tim.
Nice to meet you.
- Pleasure to meet you.
Ace Hood is an amazing rap artist who works with - all the top talent.
- He's been nominated for 3 BET awards.
Vic, come on in.
He's gonna play a music producer.
He's gonna tell them that they're signed.
They're gonna be really excited.
But we made some changes.
- Just a few.
- Just a few.
(laughter) (rapping) (laughter) He's gonna hate it.
No.
Oh, my God.
He's gonna be so pissed.
He's gonna be so (bleep) pissed.
(cheering) I smell platinum.
(laughter continues) - So what do you think? - I think he's gonna hate it.
I think he will absolutely hate that and go ballistic over this.
Are you concerned? I think it's really, really funny right now.
But I'm kind of nervous about the situation.
I think there's gonna be a lot of screaming.
I think there'll be a screaming match with this guy.
Since Howie's completely destroying the song and it's Nick, it's just gonna It's gonna be bad.
- Meet your brother.
- Good job.
Appreciate it, bro.
How's mom? She good? - Yeah, she's good.
- (Laughter) I can't tell you how excited I am.
Ace Hood killed it.
And to hear from Tim how precious, you know, Nick's music is to him.
Will he turn so far away that we can't get him back to accept an apology.
I don't know if we've gone too far.
I hope this works out for the better.
Announcer: Next on "Mobbed" Get ready.
He'll do really crazy things if you push his buttons.
And you're pushing all of his buttons.
Don't raise your voice! Launch it now! Launch it now! Tim: I don't know what he'll say to me when I apologize.
I'm terrified, actually.
Can we just Tabitha: We're here at the Americana.
It's about 12 hours till we get our Mob on.
We have our first rehearsal.
We're in the warehouse.
We start with an empty warehouse and then the dancers are gonna bust through the door.
They be in silhouettes.
- You can't really tell what's going on.
- You see guys with chains.
And the idea is to be a little intimidating.
And then we're gonna come outside where we'll see a short dance by a crew called "Formality" and then we do our street surfing.
Next, we're gonna have Ravi playing the drums.
And we'll also reveal Tim right there.
- And his brother will get - An idea that - Tim has been in on it.
- Yeah.
Hopefully it's emotional enough that he'll accept the apology.
This is incredible.
This is really incredible.
Howie: You'll be revealed on that stage - playing those.
- Those? - Yeah.
- No way.
- Yeah.
- No way! That's DJ Ravidrums.
He's gonna start it and then you'll be in there with him playing with him.
This is Tim.
Yeah.
- Right now, I'm so excited right now.
- That drum set is huge.
I've never seen anything like it.
It blew my mind.
I'm so I'm, like, shaking.
I'm so nervous right now about playing that and then walking up to him.
That's gonna be horrifying.
I don't know what he'll say to me when I apologize to him.
I'm terrified, actually.
- Is it easy to piss off? - Yeah.
- What's his, ah - Vocals.
I just got in an argument about vocals with him, actually, - a few days ago.
- What was the argument? He didn't like the lyrics.
He blew up at me because I used an old vocal take on a mix.
It was like World War III.
- Just because you used - The wrong lyric.
The odds of him saying, "Okay.
I accept your apology" seem to be getting less and less.
One of the brothers, Mike, had a huge fight with him.
Over what? Lyrics.
What are we doing tonight? Screwing with the lyrics.
- You say, we're gonna tweak the vocals.
- See how he reacts to that.
Don't play him the song yet.
Then you're gonna Obviously, you're not marketable.
So I'm gonna ask you to lip sync.
- So now you're insulting him.
- And the girls can come in, he hits "play".
And when you hear the music, you love it.
Like you love it.
Because we're a little worried about Nick's reaction to this left turn in the ruse, we've decided to bring in two girls that will be in the scene that are our dancers, to kind of calm things down and get us back on track in case things get a little crazy.
Even though this fight is between Tim and Nick, it is tearing the entire family apart.
So unbeknownst to Nick we invited his mom out to be part of it.
I hope that when Nick, not only sees the Mob, but when he sees his mom, he understands that enormity of how much it means to the entire family.
It's not just about Tim.
It's about the family.
- How are ya? - A million bucks.
I'm so happy today.
I'm so overwhelmed.
I've never been to anything like this much less, have it exclusively for my sons.
This is what I think.
I'm gonna let Tim apologize and I'm gonna let you have the final word.
My heart is racing.
I am very emotional.
I'm very excited for the ultimate apology.
And I'm ready to move on with this, with Nick and Tim.
So we got an added little surprise.
We thought your brother You did something.
You sold his guitar.
- Oh, my God.
It's Art.
- What? - How're you doing? - Nice to see you.
Mom's an Everclear fan, too? - Hey, how's it going? - What are you doing here? He's gonna give Nick the guitar.
He's gonna play for him and give Nick the guitar.
I can't believe you sold your brother's guitar.
We have never had more surprises.
He didn't know that we were gonna replace the guitar.
He didn't know that we were gonna do it with Art from Everclear.
It's like really overwhelming.
So not only do I get to apologize to my brother, but I get to have one of my favorite bands, Art from Everclear, hand deliver Nick the same guitar that I stole from him I mean, it's the most thrilling thing in the world.
We will, we will, rock you Wow! Oh, wow.
Some of you are really late.
Are Mob is tragically bad right now.
A lot of people going opposite.
And this is like our straight line moment that's supposed to be really cool.
They just can't go the right way.
It was a little stressful, especially because the performance level, I feel like, is elevated.
It has to be almost like a rock concert.
We have a huge stage, a band about to perform, an Mob that we've put so much pressure on getting in straight lines.
Don't get me wrong.
We want everyone to show up and be part of the Mob.
The guy with the hat But this particular week, if somebody is not getting the dance right, I think we have to push them closer to the back.
Hey, sir.
You're all off.
Okay, you're trying.
I know you're trying real hard.
And this is the last time I invite my cousin to a Mob.
Are we ready to do it again? Let's just get better and better and better.
Let's go back to one and try it again.
We're getting close.
Why are my nerves are going a mile a minute and my heart is racing? I'll tell you what's making me nervous more than anything.
How much I've been warned how volatile your brother is.
But the truth is that he might just out and leave.
He might maybe punch somebody.
Oh, my gosh.
He'll do really crazy things if you push his buttons.
And you're pushing all of his buttons.
It's, it's scary.
I'm a little scared.
Good luck, everyone.
Let's go.
Okay, everybody.
He is two minutes away.
Here we go.
Stand by.
- Vic, can you hear me? - I could hear you that time.
Apparently, this guy is a little bit of a firecracker.
So I wanna be there in Vic's ear to come up with some ideas if it explodes and goes bad.
Everybody ready.
Look good.
Go left.
Get ready.
Here we go.
Pulling up.
They are pulling up.
- Mark's here.
- Mark's here.
There's the guys.
We can see them now.
- Is that the kid? - That's him right there.
- Coming in the door.
- Coming in the door.
- Hello? - You must be Vic? - Nice to meet you.
- I'm Nick.
Guys, welcome to my new studio.
- This is really awesome.
- This is crazy, isn't it? Totally random.
'Cause I've done so many things and it's never pans out.
It's like, not real stuff.
You know, I didn't know if this was gonna be a real deal - It's not.
- (Laughter) The first thing I wanted to share with you is some really huge news.
You know, I've been looking at thousands of bands.
And I picked you for the show.
Let's go, man.
Come on.
Group hug.
Group hug.
We're gonna be working a lot together.
(laughter) I love it.
Yeah.
I love it.
Yeah.
- I'm so excited.
- You're great, man.
- This is awesome.
- Get rid of the other guys.
Let me talk to you alone for just a moment since you're the lead singer.
Take a seat.
Guys, can you hang out just outside for a moment? I just want to talk to this guy.
Thanks.
It was nice meeting you.
What are you thinking? That I'm extremely happy.
This is the day I've been waiting for my whole life.
To just do a variety or one song I listened to a bit here and there, but it was that "Meet Me After Dark" that That's really funny you say that.
'Cause I've probably written easily over a hundred songs and the one that has meant the most to me out of all those songs is I am breaking up here has been "Meet Me After Dark".
Here's the deal.
There's lots I liked, and as a producer, my job is to make it marketable.
'Cause we're about selling records.
We're about making money.
And that's why I think you're gonna be pleased with how I've removed your vocals.
- As to the song? - Yeah.
I've taken them all out.
- What? - (Laughter) What we did is we made it a rap song and then I replaced your voice with a rapper.
Your voice just doesn't play.
You can lip sync.
The fantastic news is that you get to lip sync.
Are you being serious? He needs to hear it.
Let's play it.
I think when you hear it everything will make more sense.
Okay? I just tweaked it.
Girls, you wanna listen to this? Can we just get it up? (laughing) Are you serious? Hey, dude, listen.
What? Why don't you shut up and just listen? - Why don't I shut up? - Yeah.
Why don't you shut up? Don't tell me to shut up.
I don't care who you are.
Are you being serious right now? You don't like it? No.
Are you kidding me? - You're kidding me.
- No, this isn't a joke.
And you think you can bring me in here and tell me to shut up? - Have they Did they - Yes.
My band.
Has anybody else heard this? - Your brothers are on board.
- With this? That is completely terrible.
That is the worst thing I've ever heard.
I hate that.
And for you to come in here You don't know music.
Are you out of your (bleep) mind? Are you on board or what?! Are you yelling at me? Did you mom not teach you manners? - Are you on board or what?! - Dude, don't raise your voice.
Launch it now! Launch it now! Don't raise your voice! I will beat your brains in! Are you on board or what?! - Did your mom not teach you manners? - Are you on board or what? - Dude, don't raise your voice.
- Answer the question! - Don't raise your voice! - Okay.
Launch it now! - I'm gonna leave.
- You leave the deal's blown! (Commotion) That is garbage.
That is garbage.
What is this? What is this? If you touch me, I will beat your brains in.
What is this? If you touch me, if you touch me, I will beat your brains in.
- No.
Get away from me.
- Come with us.
I'm getting out.
Can you get away from me? - I'm getting out of here.
- Lock the door.
Lock the door.
If you touch me again I'm gonna sue you.
Don't use my song.
Don't do anything.
I don't wanna sign anything.
I don't care about you.
I'm going.
I don't know what you're doing.
No.
You're out of your mind.
Don't touch me.
Don't touch me.
Don't touch him.
- What is this? - You'll be fine.
Trust us.
- What is this?! - Your whole life will change.
- Your whole life will change.
- Don't touch me.
Don't touch me again.
I'm pressing charges.
Come with us.
- What is this.
- You'll be fine.
- I don't dance.
- "I don't dance.
" - I'm not into this.
- Trust us.
I don't dance.
Stay right here, okay? What's going on? I never meant to do those things to you And so I have to say before I go Yet I just want you to know I found a reason for me To change the way it used to be The reason to start over new - Oh, my God! What is this? - And the reason is you I found a reason to show The side of me you didn't know The reason for all that I knew And the reason is you And the reason is you And the reason is you (cheers and applause) What is this?! What's going on?! - (Cheering) - What is this?! What?! What is this? What is this? I've said that a million times.
What is this?! I don't understand any of this.
What is this?! All right.
Let me just tell you this.
I'm really, really sorry for being the worst brother of all time.
I'm sorry for selling your things.
Your guitar.
All your personal things.
All your clothes.
I'm really, really sorry - setting the worst example - Don't bring that up.
- What? - You're saying you're sorry.
- Yeah, dude.
- You're saying you're sorry.
- This is not you speaking.
- I'm totally being honest.
I'm really, really sorry for stealing your things.
I didn't know how to apologize.
- Is this Tim speaking? - We haven't talked in months.
And I just feel like - This is not you.
- Yeah, dude.
What do you mean? - I'm really sorry.
- You would never say that.
Oh, my God.
You're saying you're sorry.
This is not you speaking.
I'm totally being honest with you.
I'm really, really sorry for going in and stealing your things.
I didn't know how to apologize.
- This is not you.
- Yeah, dude.
What do you mean? You would never say that.
You don't like me, that's why I don't No, I like you, dude.
I love you.
I just feel really bad that we haven't talk to each other (cheering) - Are you serious? - Yeah.
I didn't know how to apologize to you because I've been really, really embarrassed and I didn't know what to say.
So I thought I'd bring a mob of people to help me with that.
(laughter, cheers and applause) Oh, I wanna cry.
It's embarrassing.
I'm your older brother and I need to set a good example.
- Are you serious? - Yeah.
First I need to make things right with you.
(cheering and applause) Hey.
(Cheers and applause) - Nick.
- Hey, how's it going, man? - My name is Art Alexakis.
- Good to meet you - meet him while I'm crying.
- Feeling a little freaked out? I wanted to introduce you to a Mister Gibson.
Les Paul.
Best guitar made.
- I used to have one.
- Oh, yeah.
Ah, but this is the thing.
It's a good thing, but it's a thing.
Love between brothers is family.
Your relationship between you and your brother is something that you got to work on.
You gotta get it right.
You gotta figure it out.
My brother died when he was 12 years old.
And there's been a hole in my life ever since.
I still miss him.
I can't do anything about it.
You guys can do something about this.
So I came to give you two things.
Advice on your relationship with your brother, - and I came to give you this.
- Are you serious? It's yours.
It's your guitar.
So I just wanna know do you accept my apology? - So - I'm really sorry.
- Are we ready? - Get ready for the cue.
I wanna move forward as brothers and I also want to move forward so we can keep rocking on together.
Hit it! Cue! Here we go.
("We Will Rock You" by Queen playing) (cheers and applause) Hey, Nick.
Give me one of these.
- Howie Mandel.
- What's up, man? I'll tell you what's going on.
Your brother Tim here loves you.
And what was going on between you was ripping your family apart.
Tim was willing to employ thousands of people just to make this right.
And there's one more person that needs to talk to you.
Who is it? Who is it? Mom? There's one more person that needs to talk to you - to make this right.
- Who is it? Who is it? Mom? What are you doing? Nicolas, Howie Mandel flew me here because your brother Tim felt it was so important to reunite, not only the two of you, but this band.
So I hope that time has given you time to understand that there are more important things than holding a grudge I'm sorry for everything.
You mean the most to me.
I haven't had a drummer to play with.
I miss him everyday.
(Cheers and applause) I love you.
I love you.
I'm sorry.
I'm so sorry.
(Cheers, whistles and applause) So you've apologized.
You've apologized.
The band is back together as far as I'm concerned.
- Right? - Of course.
The family is back together as far as I'm concerned.
And what did you say your favorite song was? - Of ours? - Yeah.
"After Dark".
It's a new song.
So if I asked you to play it right now, you could.
- Of course.
- So here's what we're gonna do.
For the first time ever, get to your instruments.
Sit down and get to your instruments.
Get ready, guys.
On a national stage, the biggest stage you have ever been on ladies and gentlemen, we here at Mobbed present "No"! My heart's still beating right now from that roller coaster that I just took.
- I was really scared.
- Don't touch me! I'm thinking I'm in trouble.
Especially when people started pulling me.
I don't dance.
I was going, What's going on here? There was thousands of dancers, skateboarders Everybody was singing.
What is this?! I was completely overwhelmed.
And then he showed up.
I almost had a heart attack.
I had no idea what he was doing there.
I'm really, really sorry for just being the worst brother of all time.
I missed you so much.
That means the world.
And to do it in that setting is overwhelming.
Little did he know there was a stage built just for him to perform his favorite song, "Meet Me After Dark".
Lights, everything, and a thousand people out there dancing.
I'm surprised his head didn't fall off.
My mind went on sensor overload.
And when my mom comes out Mom? I just want you to know I found a reason for me Tim's apology means everything to me.
I have my brother back.
It's the best day of my life.
And the reason is you
It's a feud among a band of brothers It's a really stupid thing that I did.
