What are we celebrating?
I don't know
That I've been kicked off
the investigation, maybe.
Or that absolutely no one
wants anything to do with me
You can take your pick.
Classic Maja Angell,
in other words. Cheers!
Cheers!
-What do you mean?
-With what?
"Classic Maja".
No People used to say
"here comes the storm", you know.
And that's me?
So people talked?
Yeah.
This is a small place.
And then there was the accident
"Accident".
That word has haunted
me all my life.
"Accident", "accident". I'm so
fucking tired of that word.
Yeah, it affected our little family,
and the whole community.
I was just the “cousin of the guy
who drove himself to death”.
I can't imagine what it
was like for you.
After a while
you stop thinking about it.
-Do you really?
-Yes.
Otherwise I'd become like my mum.
Who becomes addicted
to grief. And uses it as
an excuse to pop a load of pills.
But maybe that's okay, I don't know.
We're just pretending
she has Alzheimers.
How old were you?
Ten years old?
When you moved in with us.
Yeah, I was going to be in two,
three days?
No. A month, at least.
Really? So long?
I liked having a little sister.
You turned our whole house
upside down.
We needed it then.
It was like a whirlwind.
What did people say, Eivind?
That your brother was depressed.
That he took his own life?
What did you think? You were as
good as best friends.
Yeah, we hung out a lot.
The thought crossed my mind,
like every one else.
Can't you join us?
Please.
I've said what you're
working on, and they're
dying to hear about serial
killers and stuff.
No, you can just go
and sit with the boys.
Okay.
Yes, okay.
But did he have any
usual route he runs, or?
No, I understand.
He didn't talk about going away?
I don't think we have
anything in that street, but
listen, I'll check it out
and then call you back.
Yes, but thank you very
much for calling.
Yes, bye.
A jogger has gone missing.
So I understand.
Not our district.
It's in Djupelv's.
So we ignore it then?
Just like with all the others.
We just forget they every happened?
Look another way?
What is it with you at
the moment, Johan?
-You understand very well what it is.
-No, I don't understand.
To be completely honest, I'm
starting to get a little worried, Johan.
You need to stop it now.
They're sitting on their fucking
comfy chairs in Oslo and
drawing up new police districts
now after the county merger.
Every day they call from the
directorate and demand numbers.
There's a full battle
between the districts up here
and those with the
best numbers win.
What kind of numbers
are you talking about?
I don't know, all sorts
of damn numbers.
Ongoing cases.
Resolved cases. Closed cases.
That's why Djupelv is trying
to push an open case on us.
Right? So that's how
it really works?
Mhm, and those with
the worst numbers are
the black sheep, and
right now it looks like that's us.
Yeah, so we should just
stop doing police work, or what?
We should stop producing new cases.
We'll do what the hell we can to
dress up the statistics, otherwise
Otherwise what?
We won't have a police station here.
Anyway, Johan We have
a report of a missing jogger.
We can't magically make
it go away. We have to look at it.
You leave it until we
have a formal inquiry.
Hi, this is Erik.
I'm standing in a burnt down
building here.
We have a missing jogger
so I went out to take a look.
And then I found this.
It's just across the district border,
by the road to Djupelv.
There are no houses here and
the river is too high for fishing,
so no one has seen anything
and reported it.
Huh? No, I dont know.
I've never been here before.
So could you check the system?
See if anyone's reported a fire.
No, I know. I think it's strange if
this just suddenly started
burning by itself.
Yes. Lets keep this on
the down low.
You don't need to involve Johan.
No, but he's just getting
worse and worse.
You don't have to
say anything to him.
Yeah. Good.
Bye.
Fuck
Erik!
-Why don’t you answer when I call?
-Maja, it’s the middle of the night.
I need help accessing a case.
A car accident on July 14th, 1999.
Car accident? Does this have
anything to do with the other cases?
-No.
-No, but Maja
Anyway, I think I should be
allowed an insight into the case,
considering I'm close family.
It was my brother.
What’s going on with you?
Have you been drinking?
Can you help me or not?
What's she going to do with that case?
She has a right of access to her
brother's case, doesn't she?
Yeah, but it's not that
straight forward.
It's got something to do
about parenting.
It's got something to say
how close relations they are.
And her personal interests in this?
Plus, the deceased is
entitled to protection.
It's not something we
can just hand over like that.
I hear what you’re saying, Johan.
But anyways
Erik, I know Maja Angell’s family
much better than you.
-And it's dark stuff.
-Okay?
It's like that, some families get
all the crap, so that the rest
of us can have a good time.
What the fuck does that mean?
Let it go. Protect the
poor girl from herself.
So that she doesn't
end up like her mother.
Hi.
There are some pretty horrible
pictures here.
I'm not sure if you
want to see them.
Look, Maja. I've looked at
the case thoroughly.
And this here, is an
ugly head-on accident.
There is nothing to indicate that
it was anything other than
an accident.
I know there are rumours.
But, your brother was young,
he was driving too fast.
This is not what a suicide looks like.
But I found something else.
You can say what you
want about the police
in Nerbygd, but they archived
almost everything.
So this is your file.
-I have my own file?
-Mhm.
Let’s see.
Here we have Maja Angell, 18 years old.
Noise disturbance in downtown.
Shouted at the police.
-Arrested and released.
-Yes.
And here we have Maja Angell,
16 years old.
I remember this.
A readers article.
Corruption allegations against
the mayor and police chief.
That's impressive.
Who knows, maybe you hit
the nail on the head?
So they took note and
put it in the archive?
Of course.
And then
Here's a message of concern
from the Child Welfare Service.
“Reported to have been held,
bound and inappropriately touched”.
The message was
routinely sent to the police.
But..
They closed the case.
Position of the evidence, and so on.
September 1999.
As I understand it, it's right
after your brother died.
What is it you’re searching for, Maja?
Why was this not properly
investigated?
Maja, I know that the cases we've
been looking at lately might
bring up some old memories.
But you can't start mixing your
own stuff into this.
Not in the Sofie case.
It's not good for you,
it's not good for anyone.
I just don't understand.
What you're looking for?
Why wasn't this dealt with?
Yes? No, I understand.
I'll meet you there.
Okay, bye.
See you. Okay?
Thanks.
What's going on?
Did you know that I have a file
with the police?
About all the crap that happened
when I was growing up here.
You know what they
say about psychologists?
That they're experts
on everyone else,
but have zero selfawareness.
That's funny, right?
The last place you search is yourself.
You point to everyone else,
everything around,
but maybe
the answer has been there all along.
Right in front of you.
Maja, I don't follow.
Come and sit here,
and we'll talk about it.
How long did Uncle and
Auntie have to take care of me
after Petter died?
I don't know, there was so much
going on here at that time.
Two weeks maybe?
I was exposed to something there.
Who called the Child Welfare Service?
I don’t know. I don’t remember.
Why was the case not followed up?
There was so much that
happened right then. I don’t know.
Everything was about Petter.
And that fucking accident.
That you both or you!
Just sent me away.
We had to. You're mum became
very sick. She was very sick.
And you were
ten years old.
It was best for everyone.
You couldn't stay here anymore.
A little girl.
Living with strangers.
Strangers?
They were your family.
No adults watching over me.
Everything was chaos.
I was the perfect victim for him.
Who?
Someone.
He's always been there.
In the background.
Like a shadow.
I've been looking for him
my whole fucking life.
And I'll find him.
Is that why you’ve come back here?
To find out those cases?
What if it's the same man?
Who took Sofie's life.
He was perverted even then, but he
was allowed to continue in silence.
Because no one sees the connections.
And no one gives a fuck about
listening to a little girl.
-You can't talk like that.
-As usual.
Maja, this is a totally unlikely theory.
Remember that you were
ten years old.
Memories can play tricks on you.
And you were grieving.
You didn’t believe me?
Who ensured that the case
was not followed up?
Was the report withdrawn?
Who was it?
-I don't remember.
-Was it mum?
No, I don’t think so.
Fuck, Dad. Why do you
think I was a troublemaker?
Why do you think
they called me "the storm"?
Is it too much to ask to be
believed by your own Dad?
Why do you think I'm never here?
Because this place has sucked
out my soul since I was a little girl.
And now, I have a fundamental
lack of trust in other people.
And who do you think took
that trust away from me, Dad?
-Now listen here, Maja..
-How did it happen?
I know that I should have
dealt with this.
That I should have figured it out.
Figured it all out.
I should have been the
responsible one. But then
Then a priest came to the door
with a message that changed
our whole lives, and everything
became chaos.
Me and Mum, we we handled it
but then she just disappeared.
I didn't know what happened to her.
I didn't understand what happened,
and I didn't know how
I could have done things better.
I didn't know what I could
have done differently.
No, so then you did nothing.
-Where are you going now?
-Now she's going to talk!
Maja?
Maja!
-Hi!
-Hi.
-Yes?
-I checked all reports and channels.
No one had reported the fire, except
for a few Germans in a campervan.
They saw some smoke, and
called 113, but they didn't
know where they were,
so nothing was done.
These firefighters have found
something.
You've found something?
Yes, you're looking for a jogger, right?
Yes.
What is that?
-Are those bone remains?
-Yes, it looks like it.
Hi, Johan.
Something's happened
I'm out at the site of the fire.
Listen
It looks like we've found the jogger.
In the ashes, yes.
Johan, I like this as
little as you do.
Yes.
But fuck, Johan. This looks like it
was murder by fire.
Yeah
Yeah, I know that.
Yeah.
Johan?
Johan?
What is that?
Something we found that
was lying a bit on the outside.
What happened to me?
Mum, I know that you can hear me.
Maja. Maja.
Why did I have to live with
Uncle and Auntie?
Can you not just?
I lost the case.
Because I’m apparently too involved.
Personally. Privately.
I don’t know.
Yes, I know.
Yeah, I know what you
Everyone is just trying to stop me.
Is that why you’re calling too?
No, it’s not like that. I didn’t.
No, I didn’t.
Someone is coming as well.
Why are you calling just to
Okay, I’ve gotta go.
No, I’m not lying. Someone’s here.
I’ve gotta go.
Oh, no. But thank you.
I understand that you're
investigating the Sofie case?
Not any more.
-What’s your name again?
-Elle.
Us girls, Elle.
We face resistance
and shit wherever we turn.
You can be sure that there'll
always be a bastard who
wants to keep you down.
It doesn't matter where you go,
or what you do, you can not
escape from it
I think that's why Sofie left.
Did you know here?
No, she was a couple
of years older than me.
But everyone knows everyone so
That's why you have to just get away.
This places destroys us.
Are you over eighteen?
Give me your glass.
Have a bit of wine. Come on.
What's going on with the
investigation now?
Honestly, I don’t know.
Maybe I dont even care.
Look here.
That's my brother.
He died in that car crash
twenty years ago.
They believe.
But there's always something.
Far back there. A demon.
A bastard. Some shit.
And you're the only one
who doesn't see it.
I think I’ll go now.
Thanks. Thanks for the wine.
Hi Dad.
Its me.
No, everything's fine!
I just wanted to call
in case you were worried.
I'm still in Nerbygd.
Yes, it's a long way from home.
Dad? I know you're mad at me,
but I think I'm going to
come home again soon.
If that's okay?
I love you too.
Talk to you soon.
Bye.
It looks like someone has installed
a surveillance camera.
Listen, I think we do the ground
work, before we contact
special forces and Tromsø.
-Check if it was online?
-Yes.
Everyone who works with camera
surveillance must have
permission from us.
There are some Tromsø companies.
And the smaller local ones are
Bardufoss Safety.
Bardufoss Safety.
Then we have Aurora Alarm.
Aurora Alarm.
And North Security.
Which of these is the one that
delivers the XR400?
Wait a minute.
Not Bardufoss Safety.
Neither does Aurora Alarm.
North Security has the XR400.
Contact North Security in the
morning, and find out
whether we can watch that stream.
They may have something relevant
before the fire.
Lets still keep
this on the downlow.
Don't mention
anything to the others.
See you in the morning.
I've been in the North of Finnmark
a lot. And across the border
to Sweden and Finland.
I run a small business, so
Oh? What kind of business?
We operate alarm systems.
House alarms, surveillance equipment,
things like that.
Where I'm from, people don't even
lock the doors.
No? Maybe I should give you a
sales pitch now?
I bet before we've crossed
the district border, I've managed
to sell you a house alarm
and a full package.
No. I'm from a small village where
everyone knows each other.
No, right?
You think it's just nice people,
and nothing bad can happen?
But I can tell you that horrible
things can happen anytime, anywhere.
That's the worst thing.
That people get away with it.
With what?
Crime. Violence. Murder
It shouldn't be like that.
Maybe it's easier than you think.
To get away with it?
To kill.
What do you mean?
That it's simple.
Norway is a very
trustbased country.
We trust each other. And we trust
that we care about each other.
And that we're all pretty much the same.
And we trust the system, that
it works and that it'll
capture everything and everyone.
But maybe it's not like that.
Maybe there are cracks and
holes, deviations,
dark wrinkles and hooks.
So maybe you need to be
a little more careful.
Can we find a place to stop? I just
need to go to the bathroom.
I think
I think I want to get out now.
What are we celebrating?
I don't know
That I've been kicked off

so nothing was done.
These firefighters have found
something.
You've found something?
Yes, you're looking for a jogger, right?
Yes.
What is that?
-Are those bone remains?
-Yes, it looks like it.
Hi, Johan.
Something's happened
I'm out at the site of the fire.
Listen
It looks like we've found the jogger.
In the ashes, yes.
Johan, I like this as
little as you do.
Yes.
But fuck, Johan. This looks like it
was murder by fire.
Yeah
Yeah, I know that.
Yeah.
Johan?
Johan?
What is that?
Something we found that
was lying a bit on the outside.
What happened to me?
Mum, I know that you can hear me.
Maja. Maja.
Why did I have to live with
Uncle and Auntie?
Can you not just?
I lost the case.
Because I’m apparently too involved.
Personally. Privately.
I don’t know.
Yes, I know.
Yeah, I know what you
Everyone is just trying to stop me.
Is that why you’re calling too?
No, it’s not like that. I didn’t.
No, I didn’t.
Someone is coming as well.
Why are you calling just to
Okay, I’ve gotta go.
No, I’m not lying. Someone’s here.
I’ve gotta go.
Oh, no. But thank you.
I understand that you're
investigating the Sofie case?
Not any more.
-What’s your name again?
-Elle.
Us girls, Elle.
We face resistance
and shit wherever we turn.
You can be sure that there'll
always be a bastard who
wants to keep you down.
It doesn't matter where you go,
or what you do, you can not
escape from it
I think that's why Sofie left.
Did you know here?
No, she was a couple
of years older than me.
But everyone knows everyone so
That's why you have to just get away.
This places destroys us.
Are you over eighteen?
Give me your glass.
Have a bit of wine. Come on.
What's going on with the
investigation now?
Honestly, I don’t know.
Maybe I dont even care.
Look here.
That's my brother.
He died in that car crash
twenty years ago.
They believe.
But there's always something.
Far back there. A demon.
A bastard. Some shit.
And you're the only one
who doesn't see it.
I think I’ll go now.
Thanks. Thanks for the wine.
Hi Dad.
Its me.
No, everything's fine!
I just wanted to call
in case you were worried.
I'm still in Nerbygd.
Yes, it's a long way from home.
Dad? I know you're mad at me,
but I think I'm going to
come home again soon.
If that's okay?
I love you too.
Talk to you soon.
Bye.
It looks like someone has installed
a surveillance camera.
Listen, I think we do the ground
work, before we contact
special forces and Tromsø.
-Check if it was online?
-Yes.
Everyone who works with camera
surveillance must have
permission from us.
There are some Tromsø companies.
And the smaller local ones are
Bardufoss Safety.
Bardufoss Safety.
Then we have Aurora Alarm.
Aurora Alarm.
And North Security.
Which of these is the one that
delivers the XR400?
Wait a minute.
Not Bardufoss Safety.
Neither does Aurora Alarm.
North Security has the XR400.
Contact North Security in the
morning, and find out
whether we can watch that stream.
They may have something relevant
before the fire.
Lets still keep
this on the downlow.
Don't mention
anything to the others.
See you in the morning.
I've been in the North of Finnmark
a lot. And across the border
to Sweden and Finland.
I run a small business, so
Oh? What kind of business?
We operate alarm systems.
House alarms, surveillance equipment,
things like that.
Where I'm from, people don't even
lock the doors.
No? Maybe I should give you a
sales pitch now?
I bet before we've crossed
the district border, I've managed
to sell you a house alarm
and a full package.
No. I'm from a small village where
everyone knows each other.
No, right?
You think it's just nice people,
and nothing bad can happen?
But I can tell you that horrible
things can happen anytime, anywhere.
That's the worst thing.
That people get away with it.
With what?
Crime. Violence. Murder
It shouldn't be like that.
Maybe it's easier than you think.
To get away with it?
To kill.
What do you mean?
That it's simple.
Norway is a very
trustbased country.
We trust each other. And we trust
that we care about each other.
And that we're all pretty much the same.
And we trust the system, that
it works and that it'll
capture everything and everyone.
But maybe it's not like that.
Maybe there are cracks and
holes, deviations,
dark wrinkles and hooks.
So maybe you need to be
a little more careful.
Can we find a place to stop? I just
need to go to the bathroom.
I think
I think I want to get out now.
