THE TIME IT TAKES
FIVE MINUTES IN THE PRESEN
AND SIX MINUTES IN THE PAS
[man] In ancient China,
magnolias were used
to represent femininity and gentleness,
because it's a delicate
and beautiful plant.
[woman] But mine looks awful. [chuckles]
[man] Let's see. It's because
this goes over here.
Okay?
- [woman] Turned around?
- [man] That's it.
- [rain pattering]
- [footsteps approaching]
[ironically] Mm.
Take it easy, hon. No worries.
- Can't you see I'm running?
- [Lina] I can.
- Hold this.
- [Lina] Come on, I have an appointment.
- Eat up.
- [Lina] Are you taking this in?
What else can I do?
- Let's finish it.
- I'll help.
- Okay.
- All right.
- Let me
- Take a bite.
[Lina] Mm.
Careful, you're going to eat the paper!
[laughs] You slob! Hang on.
- [mouth full] No.
- Good, give it to me.
[mouth full] Mm. Eat up.
You're gonna get it all over me.
Hang on.
[mouth full] Finish it.
- It's delicious.
- Yeah, it is.
[doorbell rings]
Hi, how are you? Good afternoon.
5:30? You're Lina, right?
How are you? I'm Luis Miguel.
Not the singer. [chuckles]
Miguel is my last name.
- And you are?
- Laura.
Nice to meet you. So, come on in, please.
This is the apartment.
It's totally refurbished,
original wood floors, okay?
You probably saw this in the ad,
but it has two rooms, okay?
It would be for the two of you, right?
Oh, yeah. Yes, yes.
[Luis chuckles]
This is the second room.
It's slightly smaller than the main room,
but it's perfect for a small office,
or in case you're planning to have kids.
Well
[chuckles]
we've thought about it, sure.
Wipe your face.
You've got something there.
- Here?
- No, the other side.
- Look at that
- Yeah.
[chuckles]
- Did I get it?
- Yeah, you did.
This is the kitchen. It's fully equipped,
and in my opinion, just seeing it
makes you want to cook, right?
- Super cute, very practical. Awesome.
- [Luis] Uh-huh.
Is there an oven?
No. No, it doesn't have an oven.
But you could have
an electric oven installed
right over there,
or even there
would be a good spot, right?
[Laura] Hmm.
But, babe,
have you ever even used an oven? [giggles]
Let me remind you
I used to bake delicious cakes.
- You loved eating them, remember?
- That's true.
- [Luis chuckles nervously]
- [Laura laughs]
- Let's move on, okay?
- Yes.
[Lina] Yes.
So, it has gas heating?
Yes, of course.
- Awesome. It's perfect.
- [chuckles]
It is lovely, yes.
[gentle acoustic music playing]
- Are you serious?
- Yes.
- Because of the oven?
- Yes.
What's up, what's up?
We just saw the perfect apartment.
It's amazing, but it didn't have an oven
so now she's not sure.
Excuse me?
[Laura laughs]
Since when
does your world revolve around an oven?
- When's the last time you used one?
- [Laura] I said the same thing.
I love to have freshly-baked sponge cake
for breakfast in bed.
I did that with Nico every Sunday.
We'd take turns. A new ingredient
had to be added each week
and the other had to guess it
He'd improvise,
but his were tastier than mine.
[Inés] We can buy one.
No.
That's why I need to rent an apartment
with an oven.
- End of story.
- [Inés] Oven it is.

You're so tan.
You look gorgeous.
Some beard you have.
- You look like a different person.
- Yeah. That was the point.
- How was your trip?
- Good.
Good, but I was dying to see you.
[sighs deeply]
[Nico] Morning, little sparrow.
It smells like anise.
I think this is the best cake
I've ever made.
[Lina] Yummy.
Try it.
Come on.
- Mm?
- [Lina] Hmm.
[Nico] So?
Does it have
lemon in it?
And cardamom.
[Lina chuckles]
- [gentle acoustic music plays]
- It's good.
Tell me more.
Well, the beginning was rough.
[chuckles]
The first few days were difficult.
How so?
[Nico] I got sick.
It must have been something I ate
when I got to Zanzibar.
That, plus what I was dealing with
I started wondering why I was there.
And then I sent you that postcard.
I regretted it later.
What postcard?
- You didn't get it?
- No.
It's probably for the best.
But then things picked up. Then, I
I went to Changuu Island and
[huffs]
it's the most beautiful place
I've ever scuba-dived.
- We have to go there together.
- We will.
We have plenty of time.
Want some coffee?
[Nico humming]
What are you humming?
- A Maasai song.
- [Lina] Can you pass me the milk?
My bungalow neighbors
were this nice family from Sydney.
They were there to scuba dive too.
They had two kids, 10 and 11 years old.
They loved dancing to it.
- They were so funny.
- [Lina laughs softly]
Every morning,
early in the morning, they went
[vocalizing]
[both laughing]
- [Nico inhales deeply, kisses]
- [Lina sighs]
[Nico moans, kisses]
- Can you imagine us like that?
- Like what?
You, me, and a couple of kids
dancing Maasai style?
- Yes.
- [Nico] Mm?
Sometimes I do.
[chuckles]
I missed you.
I missed you too.
