These are some of the hardest to drive, and most dangerous machines on the planet.
It's brutal, physical and dangerous work.
Now, celeb pals Will Mellor and Kirsten O'Brien have been set a challenge to learn to drive these incredible vehicles, race them against each other and prove who is the best driver.
I don't want to sound too confident, but at the end of the day, the word girl comes into it, doesn't it? I think he'll be thinking he can take me down, and then when it comes to it, there may be tears.
Who's going to win? Me.
It takes months to master these awesome machines.
Brake! Brake! Will and Kirsten have just days.

This week's challenge begins in Geneva, Switzerland.
To reach their final destination, Will and Kirsten are going to need a hire car, but Will's documents don't appear to be in order.

Chalet Neuf is at the top of the mountain, and they need to get kitted out for their assault on the summit.

It's a vast network of slopes and summits, jam packed with skiers and boarders.
With the exception of a cable car, Will and Kirsten can't imagine what vehicle they could possibly be driving up here.

Welcome to the mountain.
Thank you, I'm Kirsten.
I'm Will.
Jean-Louis has over 40 years experience working on these slopes.
Over the next five days, he'll be putting Will and Kirsten through their paces.
It's time to meet the mountain machine they'll have to first master and then race in this week.
Oh, look at those! Hope we get one each! This is the snow groomer, a ten ton king of the mountains.
430 horsepower muscles it up and down 45 degree slopes, taking it to places no other vehicle can reach.
If you want to groom your own snow, it'll set you back a cool £250,000.
Look at the turning circle on them.
They don't look like big machines, but they are very strong machines.
I like them.
They don't look easy, do they? But before they can get their mitts on the steering wheel, it's time to jump in the passenger seat and get a feel for what this vehicle can really do.
Kirsten is set for the ride of her life with Alex, her instructor this week.
With nine years experience, he's an expert on these slopes.

Will's ready for a white knuckle ride with his tutor, Ramuauld.
Born and bred in the Alps, he knows every inch of these mountains.
Kirsten's like a kid in a fairground, she's loving every minute.

today is where the hard work starts.

To qualify to race the snow groomers at the end of the week, Will and Kirsten need to knuckle down to three days of intense training, before going head to head to decide who is the best driver.
The terrain in the Alps is treacherous and mentor Jean-Louis won't let Will and Kirsten loose on a £250,000 machine until he's sure they're up to the job.
If they're not, he'll pull them from the competition.
OK, snow groomers are a little bit expensive, so today we will begin to know how to move on snow with a scooter.
You want to see how we do on this before you let us in that? I don't want to damage my machine.
That sounds like a good plan.
Will and Kirsten must control a powerful snow-scooter in hard and soft snow.
Stage one is a sprint to the top of the mountain.
Stage two, involves a hard turn in deep snow.
It sounds simple, but to avoid going head first in to the white stuff they'll need to stay focused.
These snow scooters go like rockets.
This will be a short, sharp introduction to life on Let's go! Woo! and off-piste.
The power in it is just fantastic.
This is an important first lesson.
If they can't control a snow scooter in these conditions, they'll have no chance this afternoon when they drive the groomer for the first time.
It doesn't half shift! It's over a mile to the summit but at 50 kilometres per hour, they're there in no time.
So, Will, do you like this? Oh, I could spend the day on this.

Let's have it! This is all about reading the terrain, and it's a skill Will and Kirsten must master.
Will had no trouble on-piste but it's a whole lot harder to control in the soft snow off-piste.

Jean-Louis is not impressed.
He just tipped it over on the turn.
Will can't believe it.

First, squeeze the snow groomer through the slalom gates with just inches clearance, then drive along a high banked turn without hitting the poles.
It's up to them in which order they take them.

Jean-Louis wants no repeat of this morning's failure, it's Will's chance to show he can handle a vehicle without crashing it.
This is a ten ton machine and it could slide out of control if Will doesn't correctly read the terrain.
Positioned to force tight turns, these gates are deliberately close.

It's a new day in the French Alps, and Will and Kirsten are waking up to a foot of fresh snow.
A day without crashing would be nice.
Yesterday, Will and Kirsten passed their first test on the snow groomer, but if they're going to make it to the start line for their race in two days' time they've got another two skills to master.
They've demonstrated they can drive the snow groomer, but can they groom a piste? To make the perfect piste, the snow groomer has to level the snow in front and smooth it out with the comb, or tiller, at the back.
The driver has to be in control of two things at once, the steering wheel for the tracks and the joystick for the tiller and the blade.
Tonight, Will and Kirsten will have to master that when they face their second skill test of the week.
First, they need prove to Jean-Louis they can drive and control the blade simultaneously.

How are you today? OK, thanks.
Yesterday was easy.
Today will be more hard.
It's important to know the movement of the blade.
So we have an exercise to learn that.
Lesson two, a game of croquet.
With just ten minutes on the clock, five hoops, a ball and a mini snow plough, Will and Kirsten have to drive the Mule around the course, and using the small blade at the front, direct the ball through the hoops.
Will up's first, and he's got a game plan.

That's rubbish.

Oh, what's that? I think the thing is she needs to be put under a bit more pressure.

This is a disaster, and Will's laughing.

Today has been fun and games.
But tonight, Jean-Louis is taking this up to a whole new level.
La Linga, high in the mountains, where a day of skiers and boarders has left the piste full of holes, bumps and ruts.
Jean Louis knows what he's about to ask Will and Kirsten to do is a big ask.
Test Two.
Will and Kirsten must drive the snow groomer uphill, pushing tons of snow to even out the bumps.
Turning at the top, it's a controlled descent, and using the rear tiller, they must comb the piste from top to bottom.
It's a big challenge for you.
It's one of the most important slopes in Chatel.
This morning, that was a game with the ball.
Tonight it is on my piste.
You don't damage the piste.
Can I duck out of this one? This is a crucial test for Will and Kirsten.
Controlling the snow groomer on a steep slope is a skill they'll need in the final race in less than 48 hours.
I'm quite confident about this, I just want to do everything I've learned and I don't want to lose my grip, because I think I've got one foot in front at the moment and I don't want to lose it.
I'm going to give him a run for his money, definitely.
He's in there doing his hair, as we speak, in the mirror.
So that's how high his confidence level is.
Moving into position, Will and Kirsten know they've got it all to prove.
It will be a slow and steady climb to the top.
Oh, man, here we go.
And from halfway, the piste gets even steeper.
Go! Oh God.
OK, come on.
Shit, this is hard.
As they climb they must keep traction whilst evening out the snow.
If Will and Kirsten don't maintain power, they'll stop climbing and start sliding.
I'm just going to concentrate now.

Creeping up the mountain.
, they're both looking strong.
Keep like that.
Oh, man, the concentration is so hard.
It's really steep.
Gosh, the grip starts to go.
But it's only going to get steeper and steeper.
And Jean-Louis knows they've reached a critical point.
If they stop in the middle, it's very difficult to restart.
Will's in total control.

But Kirsten's got a fight on her hands.
This is hard, this bit.
Oh my God! She's not pushing down on the power and under the full weight of the snow, Kirsten's lost traction.
If she can't get the Groomer moving, she'll have to abort her run, and Jean-Louis will remove her from the competition.
Don't lose it now! Jean-Louis' concerned It's killing me.

With a last-ditch thrust, Kirsten's found some grip.
Oh, I've got a sweat on.
Will's turned for the descent.

This test isn't about speed.
It's about controlling the vehicle and maintaining traction, but Kirsten's thinks it is and she's going all out to complete the test first.

Can she hold her nerve and overtake Will? I'm sweating cobs here.
Oh, she accelerates.
Is she coming? Yeah.
They are going very fast.
Don't let me lose it now.
With only a few metres left, this has turned in to a race.
Allez! Come on! She will be first, and we don't want that.

Kirsten has pipped Will at the post.
I'm sure it's all blokes that have it - you just can't have someone overtake you.
But it's up to Jean-Louis to deliver tonight's verdict.
Maybe Will has been better on the uphill - better for downhill.
How did it feel when you saw me nip past? It was horrendous to see you pass me.
Tomorrow is another day, more difficult.
It's going to get more difficult! Oh no.
Will and Kirsten are both feeling the effects of tonight's test so head to the ice rink for a gentle wind down.

In just 24 hours, Will and Kirsten are hoping to battle it out in the all-important race to decide who's the best driver this week.
It's anyone's to win, or to lose.
So, at this point, you don't really want to be making any mistakes.
Last night on the piste it was Will's ego that took a pounding but after ice-skating, it's his body that's feeling sore this morning.
I must admit, every single part of my upper body is aching this morning.
Everywhere.
Jean-Louis is about to put Will and Kirsten through the final day of training.
They've learnt the basics, but tomorrow's race will be a white-knuckle experience.
So it's time to get extreme.
This last test is against the clock.
It's extreme driving today.
No rolling.
No, my rolling days are over.

They've demonstrated they can drive the snow groomer, but can they groom a piste? To make the perfect piste, the snow groomer has to level the snow in front and smooth it out with the comb, or tiller, at the back.
The driver has to be in control of two things at once, the steering wheel for the tracks and the joystick for the tiller and the blade.
Tonight, Will and Kirsten will have to master that when they face their second skill test of the week.
First, they need prove to Jean-Louis they can drive and control the blade simultaneously.
