Songs from the 2000's

1 Tonight three, two We are live! And you, America, will get to vote at the end of the night.
Last week it's all right, it's all right.
Kelly lost her first amateur.
It sucks that I have to go home to nothing and I don't get to sing with Kelly anymore.
Robin and John are both down to their last hope.
We are aping for number one.
And only Jennifer is left with two.
And I J.
Rome and John Glosson.
Forever this way I have the number one best partner that anyone could have on the show.
Crazy right now We had enough fun now.
But now, it's America's vote that will decide.
Whole new strategy.
Who will you save or send home? Right now, live, on "Duets.

Thank you.
Welcome to "Duets.
" I'm your host Quddus.
This is a very excited crowd.
And we are live.
[ Applause .]
And let me tell you we are about to get it going, because we've got five incredible performances lined up for you.
Our amateurs will be taking on some of the biggest songs from the last decade, alongside their superstars, of course.
But before the live action gets underway, let's hear it for John legend.
[ Applause .]
A blonde Kelly Clarkson! [ Applause .]
A scruffy Robin Thicke.
[ Applause .]
And Jennifer Nettles who has some very big news and is expecting a child now.
Yeah! Congratulations.
Thank you.
Going to be such an amazing mother.
Thank you.
Son, they'll be joining our amateurs right up here on the stage.
And the pressure will be on for each and every one of them.
Because at the end of tonight's live show, for the very first time, it will be up to you, America, to decide who stays and who goes.
[ Applause .]
There is only one superstar with both amateurs still left in the competition, and that is Jennifer.
So, let's see what songs from the last decade she and her first duet partner John Glosson decided to take on.
So, you went home.
How was that? It was good.
I had a chance to go home this week.
The store that my wife and I own.
I started this business six years ago.
I'm an event and wedding designer.
It was cool on one hand, awkward on the other hand because it was sort of like, what am I doing here? And the shop was crazy? A little crazy.
That's not going to get you any rest.
It was really neat to see how many people are supporting and I haven't thought about that the last few shows.
That makes it a little more nerve wracking.
So, the theme for this week is songs from this millennium.
This is a beautiful song that I heard you doing on your audition video.
I am singing "when you say you love me" by Josh grobin.
To make it a duet was a little challenging.
There are times that I feel like I could fly I want to get your phrasing on that, though.
Rhythm widse, it has a lot of can you not say that or do you know I'll try not to say it.
Hard to change your words, Josh.
This week, America is voting for the first time and weapon a arel and terrified.
And the whole song, we are slowly taking it toward each other.
This song is romantic.
I'm going to be all up in his grill and I give it, he better give it right back.
We're going to kill them with romance.
Up next, Jennifer and John take the stage with Josh groban's "when you say you love me" for their first ever live performance.
And four more amateurs gear up to take the stage.
Don't you go anywhere.
You're watching "Duets," live on ABC.
Welcome back to "Duets.
" We are live, and our amateurs are going all-out, performing some of the biggest songs from the last decade.
And remember, tonight, it is up to you, America, to decide who stays and who goes.
Getting us started with Josh groban's "when you say you love me," here is Jennifer Nettles and her duet partner, John Glosson.
you're the one I've always thought of I don't know how but I feel sheltered in your love you're where I belong and when you're with me if I close my eyes there are times that I feel like I could fly for a moment in time somewhere between the heavens and earth frozen in time oh when you say those words when you say you love me the world goes still still inside when you say you love me in that moment I know why I'm alive and this journey that we're on how far we've come and I celebrate every moment and when you say you love me yes that's all you have to say and I'll always feel this way when you say you love me the world goes still so still inside and when you say you love me in that moment I know why I'm alive when you say you love me do you know how I love you I so wanted you guys to kiss.
John Glosson.
Thank you.
So, listen, obviously, you have been one of the front-runners in this competition thus far.
Now, the vote is on America.
How has that changed your approach? You know, I've used my gut feeling from day one and I'm just going to keep doing it that way.
Okay.
The man has a strategy.
He's sticking to it.
Let's see how that plays with the superstars thus far.
Kelly? You every time, you do that, so, I'm not shocked that you did amazing just then.
I love that we open a live setting with that.
So, thank you very much.
Thank you.
It was beautiful.
Robin? Well, you know, legally, that's not a duet anymore.
That's a trio.
Not fair.
Breaking the rules there, but no.
Honestly, it's a perfect song for you and, you know, I call you the Georgia bocelli right there.
Thank you, Robin.
John? I mean, your voice sounded magnificent.
You were hitting the high notes so beautifully.
Sustaining the noeflts so well.
Now, just as a matter of personal taste, it felt a little syrupy to me, that's the song, I guess.
Felt like you were laying it on heavy.
I know you are so good at it.
But just the song it felt a little syrupy to me.
I kind of take that as a compliment.
That's good, right? All right, so, if you want to vote for John, call the number on your screen.
Go to ABC.
Com, or Facebook, you get five votes per message.
Voting lines don't open until the end of tonight's show.
Be sure to cast the votes, because at the beginning of next week's live show, the amateur with the lowest amount will be sent home.
Thank you, John.
Best of luck, man.
Thank you.
Up next, Robin and Olivia take on a song from Lady Antebellum, performing "Need You Now.
" And later, our amateurs and superstars take on huge hits from Duffy, Beyoncé, and Usher.
You're watching "Duets," live on ABC.
We're back live here on "Duets.
" And before the break, John Glosson got us started in style.
But his fate rests in the hands of you guys at home now.
It's on you.
You will cast your votes and determine who stays, and who goes.
But up next, let's see how Robin Thicke and his duet partner, Olivia chisholm, rehearsed this week.
So crazy my baby This has been a dream come true for me.
Five weeks I was serving drinks to people at a club and now on stage next to Robin Thicke.
It's been so much pressure.
I know you can do it.
Just do your best.
Thank you.
My parents have been so supportive to me.
They mean everything.
They mean the world to me.
A lot of people don't have parents behind them who will risk not paying their bills to help you pay for your music.
I love you.
Love you, too.
Good luck.
Thank you.
I cannot let this opportunity slip away.
I'm not only doing it for me but my family, too.
It's a quarter after one I'm all alone and I need you now "Need you now," which is one of the best songs that's been written in the mill len number.
I thought sensual and loving like this might really match her voice very well.
I just need you now This week, I really want to show America that I'm not a soft voiced girl that goes on stage, that I can really be confident and I can really have a powerful voice.
I just need you now I'm really excited about this week.
Ill think this song is perfect for her.
I think it's going to be the best one she's done yet.
I think you sound beautiful.
Excellent.
Okay, great.
Let's do it.
Let's duet.
Yes.
Singing lady antebellum's "need you now," here's Robin Thicke and his duet partner, Olivia chisholm.
picture perfect memories scattered all around the floor reachin' for the phone 'cause I can't fight it anymore and I wonder if I ever cross your mind for me it happens all the time it's a quarter after one I'm all alone and I need you now said I wouldn't call but I lost all control and I need you now and I don't know how I can do without I just need you now another shot of whiskey can't stop looking at the door wishing you'd come sweeping in the way you did before oh yeah and I wonder if I ever cross your mind for me it happens all the time it's a quarter after one I'm a little drunk and I need you now said I wouldn't call but I lost all control and I need you now and I don't know how I can do without I just need you now and I don't know how I can do without I just need you now I just need you now I just need you now I just need you now You are absolutely lovely.
Thank you.
Olivia chisholm.
So, let's talk about this.
This moment in this show, this competition.
It's getting more interesting.
It is.
What would it mean to you to get into the top four of the show? It would mean everything, just to be able to come on stage with Robin Thicke another week and learn more and develop more.
I would appreciate it so much.
You've been developing.
You've been taking notes.
So, let's chat with our superstars here.
John? What are you thinking? I've always said, r & b and country are like cousins and it was kind of cool toll have you guys singing country tonight.
It was fun.
Kelly, last week, you thought that Olivia delivered her best performance.
How did this compare? You were pretty pitchy throughout the song, but I do, like I said, from the beginning, I love your tone.
I think you have a beautiful tone and I actually loved the song choice.
Ill thought that was cool to do a country song.
Thank you.
Jennifer? You look like a million bucks, first of all.
Thank you.
And I love I love the song choice.
I think it's so great.
It's important on this show to show your diversity, I think you did that with this song.
I know, as Kelly said, there are nerves that can account for some pitchiness.
We all get that.
I thought you did a wonderful job.
Thank you.
Well, America, if you want to see Olivia performing here another week on this show, vote for you.
Call the number on your screen, go to ABC.
Com, or Facebook.
But remember, voting lines don't open until the end of tonight's show! Thank you, Olivia.
Best of luck.
Head on down to the lounge.
Up next, it's Kelly Clarkson and Jason farol's turn to take the stage with Duffy's hit song, "mercy.
" And later, John legend and bridget carrington perform a chart topper from Beyonce.
Don't go anywhere.
You are watching "Duets," live on ABC.
Oh, yes, we are back here live on "Duets," where our superstars and amateurs are lighting the stage on fire, with some of the hottest songs from the last decade.
Up next, it's Kelly Clark sob and Jason farol's turn.
After finding himself back in the bottom two last week, let's see how Jason planned to win the hearts of you at home.
What's up Jason? I'm so happy we made it.
Last week, it sucked.
I didn't like seeing both my people in the bottom.
I thought it was my time to go because I've been in the bottom for so long.
I was surprised.
I'm used to being in the bottom.
I guess the superstars don't connect with my performance.
I love that you are such a fighter.
People really respond to that.
But the whole new game now that America's voting and I'm ready to be on top.
What are your parents thinking now? They are going crazy.
They are more behind me.
They won't stop talking about me to anyone.
We have turned them.
That is amazing.
This is what I want to do for the rest of my life.
I'm glad they are finally seeing it happen to me.
Yeah yeah yeah I love you This week is millennium week.
Jason picked a song from this millennium but it songs like an old school song.
Better believe me How are you singing that? I'm not hearing any of this.
If I were going to sing it in my.
In practice, Kelly tells me to hit this note and she does it effortlessly it's in you.
In the beginning of the show, I was intimidated.
Now I'm not.
Stop it! That was so good.
If you don't do that on stage, I'm going to go I'm very excited that America is voting.
You are rocking it.
Wow! I think they will choose wisely.
Performing Duffy's "mercy," here is Kelly Clarkson and her duet partner, Jason farol.
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah I love you hoo hoo but I gotta stay true hoo hoo my morals got me on my knees I beg you please stop playing games stop playing games I don't know what this is but you've got me good like you knew you would hoo hoo I don't know what you do but you do it well I'm under your spell you got me begging you for mercy yeah yeah yeah why won't you release me yeah yeah yeah you got me begging you for mercy yeah yeah yeah why won't you release me yeah yeah yeah I said you better release me yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah now you think that I will be something on the side but you've got to understand that I need a man who can take my hand yeah I don't know what this is but you've got me good just like you knew you would I don't know what you do but you do it well I'm under your spell you've got me begging you for mercy why won't you release me you've got me begging you for mercy why won't you release me I said you'd better release yeah yeah yeah yeah I'm begging you for mercy why won't you release me I'm begging you for mercy you got me begging you got me begging you got me begging for mercy why won't you release why won't you release me I'm begging you for mercy Oh, my goodness.
All right, so let me just remind you, that's a married woman right there.
Don't get too frisky.
You've been in the bottom almost every week.
Do you think your fate will be different? I hope so.
I've been working hard.
Hopefully I'm through.
All right, y'all.
Time to hear what the superstars thought of that.
Jennifer, I'm thinking you liked it.
Well, first of all, I loved it and if teenage girls are voting, please I mean that's it, you are so dangerous because you are so cute and so fun up there and it love seeing you let loose and get a little sexy with it.
Thank you.
Woo.
I loved it.
Robin? Well, as nice as you look and as nice as you sound, I could not take my eyes off of Kelly in that little dress.
Is it the blond thing? I actually got a little jell louls you danced for John.
She didn't dance for me at all.
Enjoyed it over here.
She didn't dance for me at all.
Next time you do a song, make sure she comes over here.
You did a great job.
Thank you.
John? I loved how much fun you were having up there and you sounded good.
I think sometimes when you dance, though, it feels like it's not completely natural.
Feels like you are kind of I don't know.
He's getting better, though.
It's up to you.
To decide for I'm not voting.
If you want to vote for Jason, call the number on your screen, go to ABC.
Com, or Facebook.
But keep in mind, voting lines don't open until the end of tonight's show.
Best of luck, Jason.
Head on down to the lounge.
Up next, the live performances roll on when bridget carrington takes the stage with John legend, as they tackle a double-platinum hit from Beyonce.
Can bridget conquer a song from one of the biggest pop stars of the last decade? We'll find out when we come back.
This is "Duets," live on ABC.
Welcome back to "Duets.
" We are live, and our theme tonight is songs from the last decade.
Up next, it's John legend and bridget carrington's turn.
Last week bridget took on a song from Tina Turner, and this week she's performing a song from one of the biggest pop superstars of all time.
There she is.
She is here.
This week, I went home and I had to go back to work, to the tax department.
I started crying.
I said, where are the cameras? You finally would have had some tears on the show.
She's thinking, man, I did this glamorous, amazing thing and now I'm sitting in my office.
So, you sing all of this and I'm going to sing harmony with you.
My song this week is Beyonce's "halo.
" Everywhere looking now I'm surrounded by your embrace I'll let you sing that last note.
Halo You sound really good on those notes.
Beyonce will be proud.
All right.
I feel really good, but you know, you never know what's going to go from rehearsal to the performance.
Now the pressure is on.
I do not want to be the next girl to go home.
Time to show America that I can sing something else.
And I think they're going to be very surprised.
Go ahead.
Team bridget.
I think we're ready to be surprised.
Singing the Beyonce smash hit, "halo," here is John legend and his duet partner, bridget carrington.
remember those walls I built well baby they're coming down and they didn't even put up a fight they didn't even make a sound I found a way to let you in but I never really had a doubt standing in the light of your halo I got my angel now it's like I've been awakened every rule I had you breakin' it's the risk that I'm takin' I ain't never gonna shut you out everywhere I'm looking now I'm surrounded by your embrace baby I can see your halo you know you're my saving grace you're everything I need and more it's written all over your face baby I can feel your halo I pray it won't fade away halo halo halo halo halo halo hit me like a ray of sun burning through my darkest night you're the only one that I want think I'm addicted to your light I swore I'd never fall again but this don't even feel like falling gravity can't begin to pull me back to the ground again like I've been awakened every rule I had you breakin' the risk that I'm takin' I'm never gonna shut you out everywhere I'm looking now I'm surrounded by your embrace baby I can see your halo you know you're my saving grace you're everything I need and more it's written all over your face baby I can feel your halo I pray it won't fade away halo halo halo halo halo halo halo halo halo halo halo halo I want to live in that last note forever, by the way.
So, let's talk about, now, how.
The vote is on America.
What do you think they're looking for? I think America's looking for someone to come on this stage and just give it their all every week, and prove week after week they are looking for someone to take their artistry to the next level.
I hope they are looking for me.
Okay.
So, let's hear from Robin.
What do you think? I thought it was very nice.
I I like the choice of song.
I felt like you got better also it went along, like, when you got to the end.
But you always sing with such passion and such power that I feel like, I feel like it's a journey I always want to go on with you, and it is always a wonderful journey.
Thank you.
Jennifer? I thought it was wonderful.
I heard a little bit of pitch articulation that's hard to do.
That's crazy runs.
At the Sam time, excuse me, I loved that you did this song that I could hear your voice up here and all that crazy stuff you were doing at the top.
I've been wanting you to do something brighter, and this is that.
So thank you.
So, now, Kelly, you were the most critical of her last week.
You're going to love me tonight.
What did you think of that? I loved it.
Such a great choice of song.
I thought it was a great song.
And that the little break in your voice, back to full voice let's not.
That was amazing.
That was good.
That's really good.
All right, well, if you guys at home are thinking you want to vote for bridget, call the number on your screen, go to ABC.
Com, or Facebook.
Open until the end of tonight's show.
When we come back, we've got one final duet as J.
Rome performs David guetta and Usher's "without you" with Jennifer Nettles.
And the voting lines will open soon.
Don't go anywhere, this is "Duets," live on ABC.
We are back live here and remember, after this last performance, the voting lines will be open and you will determine who makes it to the final four.
Last up, it's Jennifer Nettles and j.
Rome's turn.
After J.
Rome found himself at the top of the chart last week for the fifth consecutive time, he solidified himself as the amateur to beat.
Let's take a look now at how he approached this week's rehearsal with Jennifer.
So last week, obviously, was great.
Still at number one, on top again.
I'm so happy for you and well deserved.
And I will always You are so good, J.
Rome.
You are so good.
So, let's try this one.
See if we can dance it up.
He has to focus on being himself this week.
And that, in and of itself, I think, is going to be a winning performance.
It has been so far and I feel confident that America will fee it that way.
I can't win I can't wane I will never win this game This week, the song we have chosen is "without you" by Usher and David guetta, super, big dance tune and super fun.
First verse is so it.
What, like, oh, thematically? Yeah, because it is I can't win, I can't I will never win this game.
Without you.
Of course.
And then it would be called "solos" and not "Duets.
" I was trying just kidding.
I will forever been grateful to Jennifer, because she believed in me when I feel like not many people did.
How does that song, like, kind of change it a little bit? Instincts, Luke.
I'm going to continue to give it my all, America.
And I just hope y'all believe in me, too.
Got to love a good "star wars" reference.
Singing David get that and Usher's double-platinum hit, "without you", here is Jennifer Nettles and her duet partner, J.
Rome.
I can't win I can't reign I will never win this game without you without you I can't rest I can't fight all I need is you and I without you without you oh oh oh you you you without you you without you I can't quit now can't be right I can't take one more sleepless night without you without you I won't soar I won't climb if you're not here I'm paralyzed without you without you I can't look I'm so blind I lost my heart I lost my mind without you without you oh oh oh you you without you you without you I am lost I am vain I will never be the same without you oh without you without you You got to love that.
You even had bridget dancing.
That's your competition.
All right, so Robin told you that this show is really just a sketching stone for your career.
If he's right, is that the style of music we'd hear? I just love to sing, I love to dance, I love to perform, so, it's going to be a little bit of that, hopefully, going to be a little bit of everything.
I can see it in your future.
Let's talk to the superstars.
John? You deliver such a professional performance.
You look like you belong up there.
Thank you.
My only concern that was actually one of your weaker vocal performances.
I felt like the low parts were a little too low for you and I couldn't hear, but once you got in the high stufl yf, you sound wonder and you look great.
Rob by? I love J.
Rome, but my favorite part of the performance was watching Jennifer drop it like its hot.
I mean yeah, baby in the oven, still dropping it like it's hot.
But I enjoy watching you perform all the time, man.
Thank you.
See that in six months.
I don't know about that.
Kelly? Last week, you loved J.
Rome's performance so much that you wanted to throw your heels at him.
Yes.
Should we duck and cover? I brought my shoe.
Keep that, J.
Rome.
No, you were so ridiculous.
It's just I couldn't tell if we couldn't hear you, but other than that, oh, my gosh, I can't wait to come to your con serments one day.
You are so good.
Thank you.
Let's see what America thinks of that.
You guys can vote for J.
Rome by calling the number on your careen, go to ABC.
